I’ve not read through the entire thread yet, but I wanted to stop for a minute and recognize that this was posted on the GW2 forums. I’ve been a huge criticizer of stuff not being posted here, and I did want to stop, and give credit where credit was due.
Thank you, Mr. O’Brien, for posting this here. I do truly appreciate that.
I’m gonna go back to reading everything, then reply more when I’m done. It’s a lot to read, so I’m sure it’ll be late, but wanted to get that thanks in.
well it’s quite a shame that nobody even bothered asking them in their AMA about this thread. then again, it’s full of Anet sockpuppets and white knights hence why they ignore forums completely and run there.
So why didn’t you?
Did you go through the whole thread?
Did you look at the other threads at the same time, where devs were active?different timezone, checked other threads during that time, nothing of the sorts. second, checked the thread, no questions or either way down the rabbit-hole of “answerable” questions and praises and probably downvoted. i would’ve posted a question IF i had a reddit account.
People asked questions about the visual issues, and were totally ignored, yet Colin dank meme got quite the bit of attention, as did the discussion on the care of sponges. Reddit is laughable for those looking for answers to questions. Heck, people were offering to send the team beer they “clearly are owed”. Yes, these are the people who bought them cupcakes. Yes, for them doing what we already pay them to do… /boggled. No wonder we go through “content droughts”. We forget to get them nummies.

I do not hate them and I think some people are over reacting now. And I think after they served their sentence (the ban) they should get a 2nd chance.
I don’t hate them. That’s such a strong word, especially for 2 kids I don’t even know. I simply have no respect for what transpired, and zero sympathy for their plight.
I was just reading that thread over on Reddit, and a post in the ‘Suck At Love’ thread by a user named ‘darthyoshiboy’ really caught my attention. I wanted to come share over here. I hope he doesn’t mind. I thought it something very thought provoking and well written.

There is plenty of reason to disbelieve, and it’s simply in how this has been handled. At no point have they handled this like sane people who are wrongly accused would handle it, nor have they proven themselves to be reliable conveyors of facts. Consider the following:
- They went on the offensive immediately when no sane innocent person in this scenario would do this, only someone with nothing to lose who knows they have been caught is going to act in this manner. Let alone continue to keep attempting to minimize responsibility when they’re caught up in the truth and have obviously kittened up.
- They pulled their video immediately when Anet posted the rebuttal, without apology or explanation. Again, an action where it is highly questionable if you’re going to try to claim that a sane or innocent party would act likewise. This was the time to fess up to being grievously wrong then create (and link to in the original video description) a new video apologizing for what has happened. Throw a HUGE caption over the original video urging people to go see the new apology video. Then start working with Anet to get the supposedly innocent account freed from suspension.
- They have been very deceitful throughout these events. It started right from the get go with their blatantly obvious attempt to blackmail Anet into restoring their accounts by withholding what they thought was a valued commodity. Why else go on and on claiming you have so much content that Anet have forced your hand into not releasing. Why publicly state that you’re not coming back to the community under any circumstances? Why continue to interact with the community that you have supposedly and without conditions forsaken? It’s all a very deceitful attempt to leverage control of a message that they know they’ve lost the reins on as best as they can with the limited tools available to them (their popularity.)
- They continue to claim that they had exhausted all means of dealing with Anet privately (" They completely ignored us "), while the known facts don’t support that possibility. They had their video up within a few hours of the bans starting, an action that could never have allowed for Anet support to get them a single response, let alone exhausting all avenues.
- Even still in this “not an apology, apology” they continue to attempt to control the message by claiming that A) Bro’s offense wasn’t really ‘that bad’, it was just that once and he just feels so gosh darn bad about it Sis is a victim and should bear no responsibility for the kittenstorm they attempted (and nearly succeeded) to create for ArenaNet. This “apology” is littered with caveats, one of which being that we should expect Sis to take no responsibility for what they attempted to get away with up there in the first point. That’s just ridiculous. You don’t get a free pass to unapologetically attempt to incite a pitchfork mob just because your co-conspirator conveniently didn’t remember all the facts until the bluff was called. Even if he was actually that forgetful and Sis had no idea about the transgression, you still need to apologize when your first action was to go on the attack and not to attempt to get this sorted in the normal channels.
In all, there has been nothing even approaching an act of contrition. They continue to demand that we treat it as if it was some sort of accident that this all happened to them. It wasn’t cheating when Bro used a map hack - just a small mistake, Sis wasn’t responsible for anything that has transpired here, they continue to heap mud on ArenaNet’s name for not just letting Sis have her account back without displaying even the smallest amount of interest in working through the normal channels that exist for this process which they have brought upon themselves (probably because they will only further lose the limited leverage they have on the message now in doing so), and they keep trying to maximize the perception of harms against them by attempting to sell us on this idea that they’ve been banned when in reality they’ve recieved suspensions that will eventually allow them to rejoin the game… Were it not for the fact that they’re absolutely never coming back because Anet is literally worse than kitten or some other reason?
Most kitten ingly, they continue to publicly run a campaign that seeks to minimize their responsibility while maximizing Anet’s for everything that has happened here while doing nothing to right the wrongs that they created rather than privately resolving the self inflicted supposed wrongs that were committed against them (that it is well within their power to address) if indeed there is an innocent party here that is not Anet.
Even if we are going to give them a HUGE benefit of doubt and assume that they did everything with only the best of intentions (and how could you?) They haven’t once even attempted to apologize for the way that they handled this by going straight on to attacking Anet.
I think we would all be happy to be charitable to Zack and Stacy if they weren’t handling every aspect of this in a way that only serves to incriminate rather than absolve them for what is going on. They’re either very immature and need to learn the lessons on offer here or they’re as guilty as they’ve been making themselves out to be and we really owe them no favors so long as they want to keep engaging on the matter.
All of that said, people telling them to go kill themselves are severely out of line. SuckatLove are on the hook for a lot of kitten that they willingly kicked up, but that doesn’t justify being the absolute worst human being that the anonymity of the Internet will allow you to be to someone else who is after all is said and done another human being.

We are currently working on the difficulty of the Assault Knight fights; I realize that sometimes its hard to get a full overflow or that there are non peak hours where server populations will be lighter. Hopefully with the difficulty changes, it will also make it easier for a good server to get ‘Six Minutes to Knightfall’.
The issue with Knight changes and some servers not being full enough (not “good” enough) was something I and other players, voiced concerns over, right after the hotfix last week. More Here.
It’s also a shame to see achievements are still bugged… even for the “good” servers.

Then, there is this thread, in the new player forum, where it’s recommended to AFK for leather:
From a post I made earlier:
You can do what some players are doing and AFK farm leather and such in Mount Maelstrom killing nightmare court. I’ve seen them having their heal skill in auto cast which may prevent the game from auto-logging them to the character select screen. Another place that I have seen people is in Harathi Hinterlands killing centaurs.
I haven’t personally done any of these so I can’t vouch what the gold per hour is but it appears to be something that can be done AFK. You’ll just need to be on a class such as a ranger so you can use your pets to kill them. You’ll get the various loot bags which can contain the expensive materials.
Another option would be to do this on a character that matches the level for that area so the weapon/armor drops are of that range. You can then salvage them for those expensive components.
If this is “sanctioned”, which most people assume it to be given the rise in what we’re seeing across Tyria and the mish-mosh responses on the issue ( here and here ) can it be clarified and the mods/staff/Michael Henninger/ Chris Cleary/Gaile Gray add that to a sticky somewhere so these aren’t popping up? At least get a merge going?
I specifically entitled it “Comments about Communications.” I’m sorry if it appeared this was an offer to have a conversation for that was not at all what I meant.
Yes, in general, I think that if you’re going to start a thread that you have no intention of participating in, it would be a good idea to make that crystal clear from the get-go.
That said, I do absolutely believe you when you say that you didn’t intend for this thread to be a conversation with us. That, actually, is part of the problem.
Absolutely hit the nail on the head. We’re all here (on these forums, or in this thread, doesn’t really matter at this point) hoping for a dialogue that apparently isn’t going to come. It was like the thread that was titled “Upcoming Guild Chat: We want to answer your questions!” but not really the way it sounded… They wanted to answer your questions about “Creature Design”… but we couldn’t get a title like, “Upcoming Guild Chat: Ask Creature Design Questions!”. That one even uses less characters than what was used and is more clear and concise in it’s intent. Which is actually recommended.
It’s an uphill battle. We get this every few months where someone (whether it’s Gaile, Mr. O’Brien, Colin, whoever) says they want better communication, but then we get a merging of threads of customer concerns that pop up fairly often (that darn visual nerf thread has been there since November!) that go UN-commented on. People have pleaded for information. Pleaded. For months. .. but asking us for links to what Colin has said on Reddit?
Bookmark Reddit indeed.

Anytime, Rose. Same here.
Use the GW2 Reddit Dev Tracker. It’s mind-blowing how much more communication is happening there.

Agree with the OP.
My son recently talked me and my husband into playing GW2. We’ve been enjoying it (this whole Karka Queen thing though and the ugly armor for gold and karka shells, ugh), but the RNG for BLT is just silly. We’re all contemplating leaving GW2 if something doesn’t change.
My son is now babbling about Elder Scrolls III online. He’ll likely start that when it comes out. I’m not sure I will. I think I’ll wait till a game is out for a year before trying another.
Honestly, the achievement being bugged seems more of a QoL issue than an actual “game breaking” bug. Unless someone’s waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too enthusiastic about a title that has no benefit, or really needs those 50 AP because it’s their last incomplete achievement, pushing out a fix for it isnt really a priority. A lot of people dont realize there’s far bigger problems with wurm like the reward vs effort compared to a boss like Tequatl.
As people have stated, regarding this achievement, or the current broken LS achievement(s)- we’d like them fixed because Anet saw fit to make them a big part of the game, and if they’re going to do that, they should be a properly functioning part of the game. You do get rewarded for having a certain amount of achievement points in the game at certain intervals, right? They do matter. What do you care what I, or someone else is enthusiastic about in regards to our GW2 game play experience? If it floats my boat to run around as a Quaggan all day, then that’s my right, they’ve implemented stuff for me to do just that. If that stuff breaks, I have a right to speak up about it. I’m not asking someone to implement an achievement simply to make me feel like I’ve won at the internetz, I’m/we’re asking that something that was broken, be fixed. I’m not asking for a favor, or for someone to do me a solid.
*edit- I do believe you were just here complaining about a broken achievement… that btw, won’t stop you from you getting the meta, unlike this one, whether it’s permanent or not. Broken is broken.
(edited by Siobhan.5273)
Why must they be required to post on the GW2 forums? They use all forms of social media so there’s no reason for everything to be restricted to these forums.
They don’t have to be RESTRICTED to posting here, but doing so at some point on the given topic would be nice, being that, well, this is the Guild Wars 2 forums…
I recently “recruited” my oldest child (I say ‘child’, she’s well into her 20’s and married!), my daughter, into the game. She plays a few other online games, and not being sure this is gonna be her cup of tea, I recommended the free version. She recently hit 80. We all got her all set up through-out her leveling experience with gear, food, showing her where level appropriate bosses were, etc.
When she started playing, she brought a friend she’d met in a another game with her. It turns out he is severely autistic (he is in his 20’s too)and my daughter just has a knack for making him socialize and want to be outside his regular comfort zones. In the other games he plays, people often tease him, and my daughter has sort of become his protector and friend. We found he had a love for Quaggans and choir bells and I sent him all the permanent Quaggan potions I had and an unbreakable bell. He was just thrilled. When he hit 80, me and my family set him up in a full set of rare gear (with the superior runes to go into it) with accessories to match and some nice metal shaded rare dyes to go with it. I got him an exotic greatsword and the sigils to go in it too. It wasn’t alot but he was over the moon. He was so excited with being able to go out and adventure. I’m currently putting together en exotic Scallywag set for him. He’s a nice kid.
Tyria is simply lovely. I bet it truly is magical through the eyes of someone with autism, he really is amazed with all the stuff he is doing in game. He just adores it.
We’d been putting my daughters gear together for abit, so she’s all set up in exotic gear/weapons. She recently discovered Dry Top and the Silverwastes and there is so much more she hasn’t seen. She is in no rush to get the expansion, there is much yet for her to see.
For those feeling like they took stuff from you, I get it, I’m a small guild.. All I can say is, continue to speak up and voice your displeasure in things that don’t make you happy. I do, and I’m sure I drive ANet insane, but know what? As a customer, so long as I’m not being nasty and disrespectful, I feel that’s okay. Perhaps you’ll be the voice they hear that prompts a change.
BloodFallsSilent, I was up late reading in bed and came across your thread. If it hadn’t been 4 am, I would have given you a standing ovation when I finished reading your post. However, it was, and I surely would have woken my sleeping husband and an old german shepherd who needs her rest at her advanced age. I still clapped a little.
My son, who had played since early access, logged in long enough to collect his dye stuff, put in a ticket for missing stuff, and that was it. He’ll put his spoils into the guild bank and that’ll be the end of his GW2 adventures. My husband didn’t even bother patching yesterday, let alone logging in. I logged in to do the dye thing, look over the wardrobe change, and then read necro minions are still bugged..still.. still, saw my characters still had some other bug issues I ticketed forever to get fixed still unaddressed and I quietly logged out.

After your your experiences with HoT (positive or negative) will you be pre-ordering the next expansion?
No x3 users in our home. I think next time we’ll wait to see what happens a month or two after the release of the expansion if not a little more.
How can we set a fair price on the next expansion when they haven’t fully delivered this one and give every indication that they’re not going to? Let them finish this one, then we’ll talk about the price of the next.
This, time and again.
Plus, their policy on issues are all over the place. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing and the customer is smack in the middle of the inconsistencies. AFK pet/minion farming intended (seriously!?), exploiting unintended features during things like SAB because best guess is, it’s not breaking the game economy, so, just turn the other cheek.. I guess and address it …later? Okay. No matter, save ya on those tickets, but others go unanswered/unresolved.. I’ve seen bots, clear botting that I’ve reported. I’ve been playing online games since UO..and played many since then, however, when the response to a bot is essentially say, ‘have at it!’ for now, by ignoring it, I start looking for other games to go enjoy, because that’s a sign to me that the company isn’t wanting to put resources into stopping exploiting, for whatever reason.
Reporting names? Well, There have been naming policy changes you have to keep up on too, outside of the ones listed here. Still, be sure to submit an actual ticket, because anything short of that goes to some void, and even after ticket submission, it still took more time than it should have (and a poor review) for someone to do something about the issues I reported. Plain nasty names, nothing remotely cute or clever. Just gross.
Where is our State of the Game Update —Q2 2016 that we were told to expect start of April with the next state of the game blog? Or, are we going full blown into Spring Quarterly Update blind, with no idea really of what this will entail except the few items vaguely mentioned in this post?
Things feel very scattered and some consolidation of policy, ideas and the product that was already sold to all of us should be secured and properly delivered before dreams of Grandmama Pale Trees come to pass, let alone, a price setting.
Legendary weapons are completely useless why are people making such a big deal about this? Do you truly honestly care or are you just complaining because you’re mad? Are you that heartbroken by anet scrapping the legendary weapons? Or just mad/upset because it wont happen? It was a dumb move on their part, sure. But in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn’t effect much.
Please allow me to point you to this Pre-Hot interview with Mr. O’Brien and Colin from January 2015.
Colin says things like: “’respecting the players time” and “not invalidating their hard work” and most importantly: “everything together builds one cohesive unit that makes this expansion succeed and any one piece not being here doesn’t bring it all together”.
Mr. O’Brien says things like: “’I have a feeling, the first day of revealing all these features, people are going to interpret these as separate features and say, ’oh I like this feature and I like this feature” and " I hope, that as people start thinking about this, they start thinking about how our purpose of building this expansion pack was really about laying the groundwork."
The video went on from there with Mr. O’Brien talking about masteries being part of the journey and laying the framework for the future and so on. This is about more than just weapons. This was all supposed to be about fluidity. Continuity. Cohesiveness. Some of us worked on those mastery lines, grinded out materials, spent countless hours of our time for something, and as it turns out, that time wasn’t respected, and it is now being invalidated. It is not appreciated. None of this even addresses the fact that we were sold this concept time and time again. We paid for it, and now, it’s being taken from us.
ArenaNet responded to concerns about this event over on Reddit (of course). Here:
anet_mattp Wrote:
hey all, thought I’d respond to this thread (because it is currently the highest ranked of the few on the topic). The way this is playing out is certainly not intended, and we’re working on some changes to it right now. Not really sure yet when any changes will get out (the NPC’s are pretty dependent on the way it currently works), but hopefully we can have something soon.
It hasn’t escaped my attention either that the only red posts are from Gaile when she started this thread.
Back before I started that Dev post in Reddit thread I kept seeing these posts on the forum where people were begging for help on precursor crafting. There were a number of events that required failure and this was setting up deliberate griefing as well as innocent event completion that stopped people who had been trying for days to get their needed item. People were coming to the forum and making thread after thread trying to get a red post about this situation. If there was even one red post answering them, I never saw it.
Then one day, I found the reddit dev tracker and browsing through that I found a red post talking about this situation to someone over there. It was over a month old at that time. That irritated me. They posted an important piece of information there and couldn’t take the time to post that on just one of the many posts here? That’s when and why I decided to make that thread.
From comments on the forum I know that some people think I’m doing ANet’s job for them as a favor to ANet and to suck up to ANet (I was outright told that in a thread on this forum). I’m not. I’m doing it as a favor to the other posters on this forum and I’m doing it because ANet’s not doing their own job by making relevant information centralized and easily accessible. Whether ANet likes me doing it is irrelevant to me and personally I hope it embarrasses them a little. Who knows, maybe it will embarrass them enough that one day they’ll do their own job and make sure that posts on non official sites get cross posted on their official form.
I clapped for this post. Seriously.
I appreciate everything you do and all the information that you bring to us, everyday, often multiple times a day.
You are top notch in my book.

So anything we found on Dulfy or Youtube should be considered as official communicaiton from Anet ?
I took out the last bit of your post, cause I bet someone does it for you… but I think you’re spot on…. of course we shouldn’t, and they know it. Your post did give me a good chuckle though

The thing that amuses me is that it’s a ban for 181.7 days, not a permanent ban. It’s not even half a year. Mirror of the video is pretty hilarious too. ‘We won’t take down any of the videos’… priceless.
This.
Exploiting in this manner (going out of your way to install software, not a bug exploit- which is bad, but doesn’t seem as heinous!) deserves a perma-ban.
They are making so many event each month we cant expect them all to be bug free on release, just keep up the good work Anet…
This is part of the issue. Quantity over quality.
We’re all in agreement, bugs occur in every game, in every patch/content release, but no one put such LS time constraints on Anet but Anet. When are we as customers supposed to say enough? I don’t watch my dog scarf down her food repeatedly, lest she get bloat and that’d be bad, real bad. I step in.. I do something. Slow her down. Because I care.
Please, Anet, slow down. This is a good game, but the bugs are getting ridiculous. I’m sure many agree. I’d rather content take longer to be released than continue on this road, because if this continues, I know I don’t want to be frustrated with every patch or have to avoid new content for 8 hotfixes, then why would I bother staying at all?
I posted this in a thread about ’Let’s help Anet make a well-priced Xpack’ as a response to something Jafw wrote, but I think it’s also very fitting here, so I’ll share:
How can we set a fair price on the next expansion when they haven’t fully delivered this one and give every indication that they’re not going to? Let them finish this one, then we’ll talk about the price of the next.

AFK pet/minion farming intended according to the person who handles that (seriously!?). Look at this comment link from Gaile Grey not supporting the afk stance (but not “officially”). All over the place hot mess.
Then we have a different ANet rep giving the go ahead on exploiting unintended features during things like SAB because best guess is, it’s not breaking the game economy, so, just turn the other cheek.. I guess and address it …later? Okay. No matter, save ya on those tickets, but others go unanswered/unresolved.. I’ve seen bots, clear botting that I’ve reported. Ceri, you’re awesome.
Me and Sara just lub you. See? She’s just sending you lots of lub!
I try to give credit where credit is due. The citizen rescues, loved it. LOVED meeting new people and running off to help others, but hated the afk leechers.
I think recent issues with the ignoring of bugs has just pinged on my last patience nerve, and baaaaad ticket responses. One or two, I can might deal with, go beyond that and I’m not in a good place.
Much, much credit to people like you Ceri, and you, Vyko for the smiles in the gloom. I can’t always join you, but I can stand back and appreciate it.
Oh my.. oh my! On my laptop.. husband asleep… 3 cats on the bed.. someone has gas and is dirty-bombing me right out of my own room!!! My eyes are tearing! It’s bad!!! I’m melting!!
then you’d hope it wouldn’t continue to happen if it’s such an inconvenience and you’d resolve the problem…
I just don’t understand it. This was an issue for me a few times when I was new to the game. I then learned about using the proper bags to prevent this issue, and paying attention to my menus.
But this is the modern age, where you sue people and complain so that you don’t have to have personal accountability.
Regardless, “Deposit” should be a button, as should compact. They should not be hidden behind an options menu. So good change, long time coming, and don’t stop there with UX improvements, please!
haha! Duly noted, synk. Duly noted.
I told my son that from now on, if he has a complaint, it needs to be in video form and sent to my phone.
He was amused… but, we’ll have to see if this happens. If it does… I will be the amused one!
Is it a horrid change? No. Was this requested many times from others? Yes. I guess the squeaky, streamer fave ranter got the wheel grease though, and it’s a shame it couldn’t have been that “easy” for the rest of the community that had been asking, though without the sigh fetching, begging and passive aggressiveness that was in that video..
While I am in complete agreement with those who say the whining is, frankly, silly. I do think that this chapter in GW2’s history has been completely over run with communication issues. From the still ongoing achievement total issue to the still ongoing debate about the Dragon Ball achievements to the dates for the event itself to the lack of clarity on the fireworks events to who knows what else will still be coming. Every ANet staffer seems to be giving out different information and that information, in some cases, has dumped some real problems into the collective lap of the playerbase.
They seriously need to go back to the drawing board on how get their stories straight and how to effectively communicate with their players.
I up-voted this, Strider.
Bugs happen, patches get glitchy, I get it, and I think most of the playerbase does too. However, there is some truly sloppy stuff going on that can be smoothed over with direct communication.
I’m seeing folks ask the same questions over and over again. Why are my DB achievements not counting? Are the fireworks still going? Why am I not getting my wings, patch says my 8 achievements are enough! I stopped over in the Bug forums this evening, and I couldn’t get over how many people asked the same thing time and again. Maybe an in-game message upon login stating Anet is aware of the issues, maybe a message on the login screen, I don’t know, but there needs to be more communication and the Anet folks really need to get on the same page before giving conflicting information. I bet it’d go a long way in regards to how the playerbase reacts when there are issues.

So Colin is apparently leaving? All the best to him …..but I can’t help wondering how this will affect the visual nerfs issue. Who’s going to ensure that what he said gets carried through?
I sort of brought up the same concern in the Mike O’Brien AMA now on Reddit! thread Gaile Gray, ArenaNet Forum Communications Team Lead started a few days back after hearing news that Colin was leaving via the Reddit/GW2 AMA.
This “revert”, for lack of a better word, is fairly big news. Like others, I have to wonder why this wasn’t addressed via the AMA (regardless if the question was asked, it’s a hot topic so to speak) and of course, why can’t we get some word from someone here? Please don’t misunderstand, I am glad the changes are being reverted, and an option for the player to adjust their graphics on their own for such things being addressed (so has been said on Reddit), rather than being forced on those of us who don’t require it, or want it, but why are important issues seemingly so hard to communicate, even when the “cat is out of the bag” apparently?
So, we have this thread, Comments about Communications that has been opened for us to post communication concerns in. I posted there a few times, you, Zoltar, I believe you did too. I put a good amount of time into this post there as matter of fact… and then I just started using Reddit and found that as much as I want to post here, where it makes sense (this is the home forum of the game, right? I’d think this is where I should be posting), it takes so much, I guess, hand sitting, or typing, reading, re-typing responses so as to watch my “P’s” and "Q’s so I don’t get my hand smacked for voicing my displeasure over issues with the lack of communications (lets call a spade a spade, using the words “lack of communication”is very kind), or sometimes, the outright rude responses I’ve seen uttered to customers- gah, if, I could respond in kind here.. but.. I understand the rules, and I will play by them. It is disheartening that it feels unless people are cheering and screaming, “go AnEt!” their posts often don’t even merit a nod, let alone a response, or if they get one, it’s got a not-so-nice feel to it (like this one) a burn factor, if you will… and there are alot of those around.
If the forum software is so antiquated or broken that even the GW2 staff and president of ArenaNet prefers to do business (and that AMA was indeed business, make no mistakes about that) elsewhere, someone needs to seriously look into fixing more than just WvW or dungeons and fractals, because their home for communications either needs to be moved, or this place needs an overhaul. Either way, we need communication, and though we understand it can’t happen overnight, some of us have been waiting a long time, and we’d be happy to wait a little longer, so long as we have an understanding that there is an issue that needs resolving.

The reason they don’t have to listen is because people like you are willing to buy it sight unseen.
Given the recent history and business practices of all the major AAA developers, I would go so far to say noone should ever pre-order ANY game. Buy it when someone reputable has reviewed it first.
Don’t give them your money, and the permission to give you a crappy game.
Both of these posts were quote worthy. True words and I agree on both points.

On a lighter note Colin probably owes Mike a drink or ten for bailing right before this announcement.
I’m not sure he bailed.

Bug Fixes:
Fixed a bug that prevented players from receiving loot from the Assault Knights. A reward chest will now be awarded after all three Assault Knight events have finished, and will be given to the corresponding participants even if only one Assault Knight was defeated.
To encourage players to split up, the boon from the associated Attunement Pool will now be required in order to damage each Assault Knight, and only 50 players can have the attunement for each color simultaneously.
Fixed a server crash during the Prime Hologram encounter.
Fixed an issue in which the Synergetic Assault Knight could be pulled into the water.
I think the bolded part is going to be an issue. What if there are 57 people at blue, or green or red? Who is moving, who is staying? This is alot of coordination for an hourly event for LS content. Some servers don’t do this for the 3 headed wurm, and that’s permanent content.
(edited by Siobhan.5273)
That really was thought provoking thanks for the effort in adding it here.
Anytime.
It is a game at the end of the day, and anyone telling these 2 people to kill themselves need to get hold of themselves and take a real long look in the mirror. Pixels < Human life.
I don’t want to play with them, hopefully, it’s never an issue, but I’d never wish illness, evil or death on them.
Be mad and frustrated and feel scammed and lied to, you’re justified in that, but asking for their life? C’mon. That’s sick and twisted behavior no one should be subjected to unless they committed a mortal sin against you. Pixel manipulation I’m pretty sure isn’t one of them..

A Moist Papsmear" and “A Dry Prostate” – Both deleted names now.
Jenna Tell Ya I saw yesterday so I doubt his name will be around long either. No sense of humour Anet.
Nothing about a papsmear or wet underwear is humorous, IMO, nor kittens (lol, the forum edited out the word for nut ‘bags’- alternate word, starts with an s- but you can name a character after it in game), small weeners or boobies. However, these seem up for debate with ANet these days, as I see them in game.
So many other things that can be humorous- this thread is full of awesome examples!
I saw one by the name of ‘Glitches B Trippin’ an Asura Revenant I loved it!

We’d be better braced for your “jungle salty” comments.
whoever did it, it must be stopped at all cost!
Agreed!
Whoever did it is a lifesaver. Now you wont starve to death in the cold dark mountains.

I said this elsewhere in part, but I feel it bears repeating here since the topic has been brought up repeatedly in this thread (and numerous others).
Either way, we need communication, and though we understand it can’t happen overnight for various reasons, (so many people have acknowledged that over the years, me being one of them) some of us have been waiting a long time for the crumbs we have been getting-elsewhere for the main part, and hearing how things will only get better. We’d be happy to wait a little longer, so long as we have an understanding that there is an issue that needs resolving here and it’s not all wrapped up in AMA’s in my opinion.
-Edit: I wanted to touch on this comment quickly:
This is what we have been clamouring for for 2+ years now. If this is how they feel comfortable and is the best way for them to communicate plans, then so be it.
I’m not a fan of Reddit at all, but at this stage when we have been so starved of communication, substance wins over format/location.
Perhaps that was the plan, and if that’s a case, like the song says, ain’t that a shame? Take note of that comment, Anet. A customer should never feel that way when it comes to communication issues, for years, and this person isn’t alone. There really is no excuse.

I just find it somewhat grating that the disclosure of information like this by [expletive deleted] youtube jockeys on “shows” I wouldn’t watch if I was paid to do so, is considered “releasing information to the public”.
I like this game, but watching online 3rd party youtube drivel about it isn’t a sacrifice I’m willing to make under any circumstance.
Agreed 100%

Hopefully with the difficulty changes, it will also make it easier for a good server to get ‘Six Minutes to Knightfall’.
Methinks that when an official representative starts talking about “good servers” and alleges that features of the game have been specifically calibrated to exlude those people who dare to stay on an un-good server, then it’s high time to cut losses and respectfully uninstall. Could be just me, though.
No, I get what you’re feeling, and I don’t think you should go anywhere. I think staff that speaks of customers that way should think about apologizing, rather than alienating them further.
I…can’t believe anyone is actually trying to argue about whether or not ANet actually announced a full set of 16 weapons and used that announcement as a selling point for HoT. Talk about arguing in bad faith.
This is cut and dry. They said, in essence, “Here is what we will be delivering in this expansion”, they took money for said expansion, and then they declined to deliver what they said they were going to.
Given ANet’s insistence over the years that they never discuss content until they are 100% certain it is deliverable, it was entirely reasonable for people to expect the delivery of the entire new set of legendary weapons.
Arguing anything to the contrary is an argument supporting unethical behavior, no matter how much lipstick you put on the pig.
Me either.
Every time I come into this thread and see someone white knighting the same, tired defense on behalf of ANet, all I can do is shake my head.
It’s a sad sight.
Dragon’s Stand.
This is not fun. Trying to get an event done simply to see content (my husband has a druid and has been trying for awhile now to get to certain areas that contain 2 pets) is anything but fun. I can’t even count the numerous failed events or empty maps.. or folks afk’ing at the front of the carnage entrance while watching others run in that endless circle taking down those darn Preservers like it was GW2 Groundhog Day, just enhancing the difficulty of the event.
Not fun.
they didn’t give the gold back.
I am they. I assure you; I did. =)
When, if we can ask? The Original thread was posted 6 days ago. Chris Cleary didn’t according to this post on Reddit 5 days ago :
We monitor all incoming and outgoing sources of wealth. The gold that was used to purchase your arcane slivers (4 of them) for a total of 499.99 Gold originated from a RMT source and while your item listings may have been setup 8 months ago, that doesn’t change where the wealth originated (which was banned).
While the transactions completed, and do not appear to be any fault of yours, we still needed to reclaim the gains from it to remove the wealth from the economy that you should not have gained in the first place. Since we only removed 300g, it looks like you are netting about a positive 166 gold from this. We’ll let you keep that, and I’ll take the strike off your account for buying gold.
This whole thing was just wrong…..Not only that, but the rudeness of the Reddit post. Just wow. "We’ll let you keep that, and I’ll take the strike off your account for buying gold. " Why, thank you for not holding me accountable for something I didn’t do……
ArenaNet will be taking my money anyway, no matter what, when the next expansion comes out.
Let’s face it, they’ll be taking most of yours too, even if you deny it now.
Not much of a chance of that happening if things don’t change. Not even a sliver of one if I don’t get what I paid for out of this one.

Unsurprisingly, despite fixing this for some, the achievement points weren’t granted. This could be anywhere from minor (5) to massive. (55)
I think you’re correct on this, Arkard, but I’ll say, I have logged in I think 3 times in 2 weeks. Once to do the LS event the day after release, when some hotfixes were applied, up until the hotfix that bugged the Knight loot, and then only to check a few things for a few minutes. My family has pretty much stopped playing, my son has moved onto another game he is testing for and just pre-ordered. I am so tired of taking screenshots to verify bugs, and that I’m getting credit for this or that, I didn’t even bother to look beyond the 8/9 or 9/10 count today.
I said it in another thread, and I’ll say it here, “F2P” doesn’t/shouldn’t mean “Fun 2 Punish” with bugs and copy/paste responses to tickets and frustration with broken content. When it stops being fun and it’s seemingly just a long beta, it’s time to stop supporting it in hopes of it getting better (which we’ve done plenty of via the gem store), and that’s what my family/guild has decided to do.
kitten I still can’t believe they havn’t fixed this issue yet…
ArenaNet you broke your game’s visual effects… people hate it… fix it..Yeah, no. Be reasonable, Christmas just passed and New Years is coming up, it was a given there was going to be an interruption on work due to the holidays.
Yeah, no. You be reasonable. People have been asking for a revert, communication here, anything, for a month. Over 700 posts. They’ve been pretty reasonable. So, yeah, now they’re getting frustrated.
Folks have time off for the holidays. It would have stood to reason players might get a little peeved to log in and read about their graphics getting nerfed, or just discover it themselves to their own dismay while playing. Why couldn’t this have waited till after the holidays? Of course, because at that point, the holidays couldn’t be used as the grand scapegoat as to why folks are not being answered, or where these sliders might be, or when we can expect to see them implemented instead of “should be seeing in the future”. Should and Will are worlds apart, and the lack of communication reeks. How much work is that in the grand scheme of all this? The silence here speaks volumes and none of it is flattering.

This is where guilds like [TTS] excel. They’ll have groups of 50 ready for each knight in their own overflow. As was said by Autumn, this event was designed to be done within 5 minutes with all 3 knights being attacked simultaneously.
To an organised group, this should be a no-brainer… get in, dodge when necessary, pile on the DPS (conjured weapons, embers, etc.), watch it burn burn burn.
For people that want to play with guilds like TTS, that’ll work out fine for them, but for others, not so much, unless they’re on a server like mine or can guest to one. I just want the people that wanna experience it to be able to do so. Logging in at the end of the day should be fun, not a hair pulling exercise in frustration., know what I mean?
Wow. I’m embarrassed for ANET that a forum-user is aggregating their official news for them.
Yeah. I’m just out of words on this.
Indeed. I vote Just a flesh wound should be brought on as a Forum Specialist- Communications Representative. Soon as possible. He is doing all of the work, has been for awhile.
So I posted this a few days ago in the Visual Nerf thread, but it’s quite relevant to the discussion (or lack thereof) in this thread, so I’ll just bring it on over and expand on it a little:
We will never see a response here because that would take courage. The only response I’ve seen was Colin on reddit attacking GW2’s customers that didn’t share his views about the new direction of the game.
Unfortunately, I think that “statement” from Colin is the only thing we will ever see on the matter, and it gets me so frustrated when I see useless staves vs staffs debates getting numerous commentary from the ArenaNet Forum Communications Team Lead, yet stuff begging for meaningful interaction is treated like the elephant in the room. It is honestly shameful. It’s like being in the cool clique in HS where they play it up with their pals right in front of the person they don’t like and they’re trying to annoy. As if suddenly, the other person has no feelings, no eyes, and no way of comprehending the game being played to his face.
I personally wouldn’t employ that as a business tactic, nor would I pull a ‘Colin’ or a ‘Chris Cleary’ either.
I’d just try to be as straight forward with my customers as I could, without talking down to them, wagging my finger at them or condescending to them. Talk to us the way Andrew Gray- Game Designer did on these forums, about the Shatterer. Because really, after what is it, 870 posts (now it’s up to 879 since this was posted a few days back), there are no excuses. This has been nothing but avoidance and it’s a wretched thing to do to your customers whom are trying to open conversation on the issue of ‘visual nerfs’ with the people who can do something about rectifying the problems we have with them.
customer
[kuhs-tuh-mer]noun
1.a person who purchases goods or services from another; buyer; patron.2.Informal. a person one has to deal with:
a tough customer; a cool customer.
Again, I am a paying customer. Not a mushroom. I have been reasonable in my arguments, and have posted many screenshots to support the fact that my spit fireball and egg-line aura has nothing to do with the hot mess that is particle effects while in a huge shartty mess of a boss fight, so can someone please stop smacking my hand now and admit that this thing did not net the desired “nerf” result and give us our effects back, that the game had when I bought it (the expansion too) until you can develop, test and deploy a real solution to fix the eye-sores that wind up in the atmosphere of Tyria, or till those “sliders” are added? We’d like that. We actually deserve that. Thanks.
Further to be touched upon is this communication concern post in the January 26th Update: Your feedback thread:
My feedback is about how feedback actually works.
It’s great you guys ask for feedback. I really do appreciate that. However if you hang out in the forums long enough you start to feel that the feedback isn’t going anywhere. This needs to be more of an ongoing and reciprocal conversation. Out of our feedback I would expect a post addressed to the player base saying " We heard you on the following points, we will be looking into them as resources allow. [followed by a list of points]." Then perhaps later or with the same post: “Points 3,7,12, and 15 are going to be a higher priority for us. Points 5,8, and 9 may not be something that is possible. Again this information is tentative and subject to change.”
I understand the player base takes things literally so you have to be carful what you say. But it feels like we have all these threads about good feedback and very little comes out of them. I’m not sure what this disconnect is but it has become apparent to anyone that frequents the forums.
If you read this I genuinely thank you for your time and thank you for making a great game. I hope we can work together to keep it that way.
I understand your thoughts, and perhaps we will be able to do that for some topics in the future; I agree it would be great! But what’s important to note is that we all — as forum members — have a certain level of visibility into our how feedback is handled simply by our participation here on the forums and our involvement in the game.
Here’s what I mean: I’ve seen the request for “gliding in central Tyria” hundreds of times on the forums. I’ve heard it in the game a hundred times, too! So when I see it come to the game, as a player and a forum member I know that ArenaNet listened to player/forum member feedback. I don’t need someone to come and tell me that, I can actually see it in the update notes and in the game.
So while I’m not discounting — believe me, I would be absolutely the last person to discount the potential or the value of further communication; trust me on that! — I like to think of an old expression that my granny said, “The proof is in the pudding.” In this case, take that odd expression to mean that we, as players and forum members, can see through actual game development that the feedback that we give is being read, reviewed, analyzed, and often implemented!
Again I do love communication, and I positively adore when devs post, or when they ask me to post on their or their team’s behalf. But I’m also aware that communication comes through many forms, including that demonstration through actual game changes. And because of that, I like the idea of productive threads like this, which you should know will be shared with every single member of the ArenaNet team as highly-suggested reading.
Anyway, I hope that makes sense. It’s just a personal opinion, but I like to think it has a certain logic.
Gaile – The biggest point you missed here (and really made yourself) is there is no feedback from Anet back to the players UNTIL the updates have been pushed to the game or are road mapped via the ‘release preview’ blogs you guys do.
I cannot recall a time in the last 5 years were Anet had an open Dialog with ‘Feedback’ on the forums in between update phases to deal with ANY of the players feedback which was requested by Anet.
that is the point here.
The OP that you replied to is dead on the head of the nail with this. You guys need to have open communication back and forth with this ‘feedback’ you promise. It needs to stop being one way.
Also, why is there a lack of a PTR still? Many of the changes would have been debated between Anet and the player base between PTR and release. Such as the alacrity nerf.
Communication. There is little to none coming from those who need to be doing the communicating. I’m almost 100% positive my words fall on deaf ears, or someone turns a blind eye to them. I haven’t made a video yet, so we’ll see if I can get that down pat and perhaps get my message out that way.
Seriously though, perhaps a PR team should handle this stuff until policy and team intention can be figured out. Because customers are simply fed up.

While the reply is greatly appreciated and the tips are welcome, for the following reasons I think the real problem is poor design.
snip
That said, I am truly of a mind that the smart thing is to just forget about those achievements and this event. The level of frustration from these and the non existent drops from knights add up to just not worth the effort right now in my humble opinion.
I logged into my laptop from reading this on my Nook HD (logging in from that gets buggy), just to to tell you I thought this whole post was perfectly stated. Well said, Vespertilionidae.

I feel bad for that other guild now
I hope people don’t spam them for invite requests or anything now and I hope this wasn’t her"quiet time" guild.
As much as Anet folks drive me batty sometimes, at the end of the day, they are people that enjoy some privacy and peace and fun jamming arrows into stuff!
Have fun out there, Gaile. I’ll not ever bother you when you’re in game. I promise to only annoy you on the forums.
