is shockingly bad. It takes up to a minute to load a map for the first time, every time I log in. The majority of games I’ve played this year — all with significantly better graphics — take far less time to load. I recently completed Dishonored, the maps literally loaded in 5 seconds. FIVE SECONDS.
But even worse than that is the draw distance of other players. I’m running around and constantly see players fading in to view literally 5ft in front of me. This is horrendous and completely ruins the enjoyment of a game that is supposed to be an mmo.
I completed it a few days ago. The toughest part will be getting all the WvWvW maps complete
I wouldn’t buy gold, but I’d have no qualms about buying something in the store that I actually deemed worthy of my money. If they dropped the black lion keys to $0.25-$0.50 instead of almost $2 apiece, I may drop $10 on those, but the current price is pure insanity.
The thing here is that there are players like me who may spend a couple bucks from time to time, there are those players who would NEVER spend any real money, and there the players who will go out and drop $1000 in a weekend on gems to convert to gold to level all their professions.
In the end, it all evens out for ANet.
It doesn’t work like that. A lot of people won’t buy something if they feel they aren’t getting value for their money. If 800 gems got you say, 10g, or there were some really awesome items to buy in the gem store, a hell of a lot more people would buy gems. It’s not as black and white as ‘some people will spend loads of money and some will spend nothing, regardless of price’
Currently it’ll cost £100-£300 to buy one of the weapons needed for a legendary if you buy gems and convert them in to gold. Clearly bots will continue to farm gold because people will want substantially more gold for their real world money.

I always got around this by transferring to another server. Unfortunately that method isn’t very practical any longer.
I don’t like threads like these. You have no right to tell others not to voice their negative opinions, they have as much right to criticise a game as you do to praise it. If it’s mindless trolling then yes there’s no place for it, but constructive criticism is helpful and very much needed. Nothing is perfect, and just because you enjoy it doesn’t mean that developers shouldn’t strive to continually improve it.
Regarding loot at least.
It’s totally fine that at level 80 the gear which we must invest significant time in to obtaining only rewards us in terms of aesthetics. I’m cool with that, I like it. However there isn’t enough of it.
Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2. Two recent releases that clearly demonstrate how adding an abundance of loot improves the feeling of player reward and also encourages extended investment of time.
In GW2 the majority of what we find is trash. The only purpose this trash serves is to sell to the vendor and slowly build up your gold. Even the rewards we get from 100% completion of each zone are mostly trash that is unusable. I have 100 map completion and in all that time I was given ONE piece of level 80 armour that my profession could use; that is shocking.
My point? Increase the loot, increase the reward. Both games I mentioned are ridiculously good food, and it’s a blast constantly swapping your gear for new and interesting gear that you keep finding. It increases the sense of satisfaction as your adventure through the world. As it stands the gear feels far too static, and as a consequence diminishes the sense of achievement and satisfaction the longer you play.
Is it going to address anything significant?
Somebody will soon have a legendary and then immediately drop dead from exhaustion and lack of sleep. But their name will forever be remembered in GW folklore
I’ve noticed that while going to vistas the majority of players will click on them and instantly skip it and run off. I also notice a lot of people just run past mobs. mmo players really are a strange bunch
I just got 100% map completion, it gave me 2 gifts of exploration as a reward. However on the character screen it says 97% on the medal, and 98% under the character name just like the rest of you.
Do we still get the star by our name? I’ve no idea how to check seeing as we can’t self target
It’s an extra usb peripheral that you use to do most common actions like moving, using items etc. You’d still be able to use your keyboard to chat
Bring back elite skill capping from bosses…
Add cooperative mission structure that we had in GW…
I don’t understand, how are they “teleporting” from one mob to another?
You have played around 14 hours every single day for the past 3 and a half weeks. You know that’s unhealthy right?
I’m loving gw2 personally, and I do play exclusively for fun. If I was bored of it, or if I did it for reward and the reward wasn’t there, I’d go back to playing Rift as my subscription hasn’t run out yet. However, I do believe there should be good rewards for dungeons, I don’t think it’s good design to have players coming out with LESS silver due to broken armour, and I don’t believe having waypoints as a money sink is a good idea either.
But overall I enjoy roaming around the map doing my own thing, participating in events, all the usual stuff you do. I’ve been level 80 for a while and I have exotic gear, and I haven’t farmed/grinded at all, I haven’t got bored, I just like the game, simple as that.
Honestly, gold is not hard to make. There are guides all over the internet for Orichalcum farms that take at the most 30 minutes a day. That alone will net you ~1g. Factor in if you do events along the way that’s another 5-20 silver. If you get super lucky with Orb hits on Orichalcum veins then that’s another 15s per Ruby Orb as well.
Not everybody wants to spend their time farming!!!!
I agree. Mechanics shouldn’t be put in that act to frustrate players. Do away with thekittencosts or make them static so it’s only a few copper
I actually haven’t had any problem with it in the full release. It was however a problem in the beta as you wouldn’t need to move very far for them to run back to their original positions.
@Soothsayer
No, because I would like it sooner than later. As does everyone in the world for what ever they aspire for, right? Or do you like MAKING yourself wait because you are a fan of Masochism? The way the game WAS, I was fine for waiting about a month for the armor set I wanted, but more and more I watch them expand that time slot, for no other reason than to make you play longer. You’re the guy who hates the word GRIND right? Define GRIND the way you have it in your head, because to me it explains a feeling; A feeling of dragging your face across the cement in a moving car so you can grab the 100 dollar bill that’s on the ground. You sound like you do that everyday for 3 hours and then take a lime shower.
No I like playing a game in my own time and eventually I’ll get everything I want. I’m level 80 with exotic gear and didn’t “grind” or “farm” anything. I spent a couple days casually completing each zone, doing every event I came across, and saving up my money (I bought the majority of my gear from 1-79 using karma after completing hearts). I amassed over 20g by the time I was 80, and then got a few gold more just roaming around Orr for a while.
The problem here is attitude and impatience. Exercise patience and treat GW2 as a game (i.e. entertainment) and you’ll be a lot happier. Instead of treating it like a chore where you have to complete everything in the same day.
TL;DR
I want to get the best gear in the game in less than a week from hitting max level and less than a month from game launch.
Oh god what a grind indeed.
Jesus Christ what happened to enjoying the game and taking your time?
I agree with you entirely. Some people have completely the wrong attitude. They grind because they want everything here and now and aren’t prepared to wait for it. As I said in another thread, they complain about grind despite forcing themselves to play 16 hours a day farming the same stuff. It’s so ridiculous
good job
TrionRiotArenaNetWell played. I’m OK with things taking time, but when you can actively see them expanding on that ammount of time it’s aggravating. I got a full time job and a partimer, I don’t have the time to farm for a few hours a day.
Then don’t farm for a few hours a day, why do you even need to? Because you want everything right now?
This is why adding solo personal story missions and removing group missions was a bad idea. Having to group to do missions always got people talking and it was a great way to meet new people without having to do something difficult like a dungeon, or without being forced to join a guild.
Nope I only have a few gold, and that’s perfectly fine. I have tens of thousands of pounds in my real life bank
There is a point.
Having FUN.
mmo players have this attitude where apparently fun doesn’t matter, it’s all about turning a game in to a job and working on it day in day out until they have ticked everything off their things-to-do list.

They shouldn’t remove features just because some people are stupid enough to abuse them. The simple solution is ban those that do it so the rest of us can use these features as intended.
I’d have no complaints with the difficulty if:
1) We were appropriate rewarded
2) Armour repairs were free inside dungeons
Lack of decent rewards and actually spending more than you get back really dampens the experience of dungeons
I suspect they are there to annoy people like yourself who are so intent on doing meaningless puzzles. By the looks of it they are succeeding. I see no harm in it.
The issue of addiction in mmo’s is very serious and it should be more widely recognised as a problem.
It’s common that people who are unhappy with their personal life will try to use an online game as a substitute for what they are lacking in their real life. This is why you’ll see a small minority spending literally all day and night racing to max level, racing to get 100% completion, racing to get legendary weapons. To them it’ll make them a success at something, they’ll have something to brag about and feel a sense of satisfaction for achieving something 99.9% of the community haven’t managed. Whereas in their real life they aren’t successful, they feel inferior to the rest of society.
There’s also a good chance they have some form of depression. Happy, outgoing people don’t sit at their computer day and night, they go out and socialise and have other hobbies.
We take a serious attitude towards drug, gambling, and alcohol addiction, but most people seem very laid back when it comes to gaming addiction. I’m not sure why because it’s damaging just like any other addiction. It is not healthy, it harms your future prospects, and it digs you in to a hole that is difficult to get out of. I’ve known one person who never leaves the house, his CV is almost empty, his job history is non-existent, but he’s in his 20’s. When the time finally comes when he has to get a job, employers are going to question why he hasn’t worked and it’s going to be difficult for him to find any job that pays above minimum wage. It’s madness. For the sake of gaining the best titles and gear on a few mmo’s his life will be crap for the foreseeable future.
GW2 isn’t really designed for mmo addicts. Anybody who feels the urge to constantly play just for the sake of playing, rather than as a means of chilling out for a few hours in your free time, you should really step back and rethink what you are doing with your life before you grow older and regret it.
People who do this must have really empty lives. What normal person wastes their free time standing in the same spot to farm whatever it is they’re farming?
I haven’t bothered with the monthly reward but if that’s all you get then it’s a bit stupid. I bet you also get a few crappy blue items that your profession can’t use?
Take a break. I took a 3 day break from the game and it helped me appreciate it much more.
This ^
As people keep saying, there is no monthly fee so there is literally no reason to force yourself to continue playing. If you are bored then quit and go back to it when you are in the mood to play. Or even wait until more content and new features are added.
Also If you have ideas on how to make the game better then post them in the suggestion forum so the devs will see them.
I’m sure there are a few people who have spent literally 20 or so hours a day grinding to get one.
I don’t like the personal story at all, or rather, I think the story itself is okay, but in the context of an MMO I don’t think the concept and the way the personal story is designed is very good.
Firstly there’s no reason to do story missions with other people, which is never a good thing in an MMO. Secondly they can’t be replayed. In GW I used to redo Thunderhead Keep and all the fire islands missions over and over because they were fun; it was fun going through them with random players and also going after the bonuses – “Should we attack the mursaat fortress front gate or go around the volcano and face the imps?” Who cares, both ways were good fun.
The personal story in GW2 makes me feel like I’m playing a single player rpg. I lose interest in it fast. In fact I haven’t even completed it yet, I’ll probably have 100% map completion before I bother finishing the last few missions.
In future expansions I’d love to see group missions that engage us like they did in GW. Do away with the personal rubbish and concentrate on encouraging us to play together completing epic missions.
Also I’m well aware you can get together with friends to do the story, and that’s all fine and dandy for those of you who do it. But an MMO is also about meeting new people, and I made a lot of new friends going through the missions in GW. And if we could replay them it would help us have more to do when we reach level 80.
Just a hobby. It’s a complete waste of your life to get addicted to a game. If you want to get addicted to anything then find a job you are interested in and get addicted to working, at least that brings in real money and improves your quality of living.
The bosses are already easy with the amount of players currently in the game. If they couldn’t easily kill you then what would be the point of them really? They’d just be like any ordinary trash mob except you’d spend 10 minutes killing them while watching TV.
Maybe they employ children on 10p per hour to compose lists of all the character names they see in the game.
It seems to be getting worse. But I guess all we can do is keep reporting them
What on earth happened here? The design of "Straits of Devastation" is horrible.
Posted by: Soothsayer.9476
Hmm, they are supposed to be the most difficult areas on the map, and they aren’t even THAT difficult (compared with dungeons they are a walk in the park) What exactly were you expecting? To be able to run through the entire map unchallenged? If anything these areas should be harder. More challenging events should be added for contested waypoints.
Hopefully the bugged events are fixed soon.
If you had no idea what you were doing and why, then clearly you didn’t bother to read what the events/hearts were about and you never bothered to click on scouts to get the story behind the events of the surrounding area. If you take the time to read then you will know exactly what is going on where you are and why the events are occurring.
That’s silly and goes against the purpose of events. You’re supposed to stumble across them, not teleport to them based on when a timer runs down.
It’s a generic paid review. If it was an actual honest review it wouldn’t have Jeremy Soul’s generic french horn music playing over it, while he talks about it positively. Do you honestly think that gaming journalism holds any validity or integrity?
Let’s see them review Ascalon Catacombs, its overflow shards, forced difficulty and hour waiting times. Oh wait, they aren’t paid to.
Of course, because your negative opinion is fact whereas any positivity and praise is clearly paid for.
I have the primeval warrior armour and I’m wondering what you think the best dye is to make it look like steel? I tried the steel dye but it looks too dark and dirty imo.
Another annoying thing is you get rewards that are not even appropriate for your class. Maybe it’s just me that thinks that way, but one would expect to get stuff they can use, not just sell…
I agree. What on earth is the point of getting “rewarded” with items you can’t even use.
Rewards and drops are scaled to your level.
I just completed Cursed Shore and I got level 76 and level 78 gear, despite being level 80…in a level 80 only map…
They can raise the level cap as much as they desire due to the level scaling. They’ll likely complement this by adding additional traits and utility skills.
If you are basically running from one poi/waypoint/heart/vista to another and only doing a few events, then you will not get the most out of that area. You are supposed to explore the areas naturally and come across these things as you go, and in the mean time take on plenty of the events that pop up all over the map.
If you do lots of events and really take your time exploring each area then you’ll level up very quickly.
The armour found on karma vendors in the Cursed Isle zone (lvl80) sell exotic armour pieces for 42k karma per piece.
But yes the tier 3 cultural items are basically trash at the moment.
On my journey to level 80, travelling through many zones, I encountered quite a few champion events that took 10-20 minutes to beat. After spending such a lengthy time beating a boss you naturally expect some sort of extra reward at the end. I think chests should appear after beating them. I’m not saying the chests should contain amazing gear, but players like rewards and it would be useful if you have more chances to find decent gear as you level up.
Perhaps it could even be a one time deal meaning you only get the chest the very first time you complete the event. Either way, I really do think event awards for champion bosses are lacking overall.
