Tarir blocks living story

The part that annoys me is the fact that during HoT the developers realised Tarir is closed of for a short amount of time and thus placed the enterance to the instance outside Tarir.

Now with living story they just place it in the heart of Tarir and no way to get to it without waiting.

I am really excited to start playing the new living story update and jumped in game just after 19.00 server time. Sadly ArenaNet does not allow you to start playing living story at that time because the start location is blocked by the octovine.

For the story played out in the map I am okay with locking the services handed out in Tarir during the octovine but for the story I dislike this. In Heart of Thorns one story instance is located in Tarir and that one can be accessed any time you want from the north side of tarir. Please do the same with the instances for episode 2 and 3.

Let me clear this.

1. Map close because of few ppl left and you get notification for it —> Design
2. Map close with full of people recently get into, without getting any notification --> Bug??

Topic is about second.

On top of that, ethier way, losing participation is frustruating and discouraging.

I agree with rodhoc the concept of merging maps to keep the population/playability high is a good concept and I really like it.

However with the Heart of Thorns and how these maps work I think we should start a constructive disscussion about what could be better and how things could be changed.

I had this also happen on me, I was in Auric Basin and started the pre events when map closure was announced. Understandable that after the finish of a event cycle they want to consolidate the amount of maps and lower server capacity so I just pressed join after the event was finished on this instance. Getting well into the event chain in the new instance again map closure came up. My guildie said to me there was no way to stop closure not even taxing in people so I decide to go over to the new instance since this one was not the best for events. Well my new instance was even worse it was completly empty 45 minutes into the pre events the tier of the map was zero.

New Guild Hall weapons soulbound aquire

ThFH.6048

Dulfy just released a guide on how to create the new guild armours and weapons available through the guild hall. To create these new weapons you need to have level 450 in the coresponding crafting profession and the commendation weapon sold by the commendation vendor in LA. No problems here and I like the concept of the weapons being an ‘upgrade’ to the commendation weapons.

My problem however is that the commendation weapons are soulbound on aquire which means I currently have all my weapons on characters that cannot upgrade them into the new guild hall weapons. And the characters that are able to craft them do not use most of the weapons their crafting discipline creates.

Is it possible to change the commendation weapons form soulbound on aquire to acountbound? Or could someone explain me why they are soulbound on aquire and should stay this way if not possible.

They named the thing scrapper??? Daring choice. I’m happy my engineer is not a char though. I would not want to associate myself with them.

On the Engineer forum there is a discussion going on about that

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/i-prefer-Forge-to-Scrapper-name/first#post5497619

And I think it was indeed a bad choice ANet made, I get where the name comes from (Engineers using the wreckages of the pact ships to enhance their surviabilty in the Maguuma Jungle) but since the word is all ready in use for something ‘bad’ my charr engineer does not like it.

ThFH.6048

I don’t mind it (especially since I will mostly see the translated version ingame) but I think it’s a bit odd that they chose a term that is already used in lore. See Scrapper.

“applied as a label for any warband which is consistently insubordinate, unreliable, or troublesome. These warbands are low within charr society and are commonly given little respect.”

Yea.. thanks i guess >_>

That is a unrelated definition. It refers strictly to charr and their ranks in a greater warband, in a greater army, it isn’t really relevant to the ES of its namesake.

I do not agree ANet says that taking an Elite makes you change your class form Engineer to Scrapper and says you are a Scrapper when having the line equiped.

Since I like to do some roleplaying my Charr a proud Centurion of the High Legions does not like the Idea of being compared to the most trashies of warbands the High Legions have walking around.

Talking about Forge this would indeed only work when if the hammer attacks would be themed around Fire.

Repeat after me: They will be released when Anet is ready to release them.

I am not going to do that, I know by it self it is just another begging thread and I know that ArenaNet has its own schedule.

I only think that Elite Specialisations are such a big cornerstone of HoT and challeging group content that I think it is important every class knows what his position is.

I know for 75% sure that what I am asking is not going to happen but for once I wanted to ask for it even though it the chance is small it will happen.

During PAX Prime ArenaNet will reveal what the challenging group content in Heart of Thorns will be and by doing so will make clear how the Elite specialisations are going to work or why is chosen for these roles.

However four classes are still waiting for their Elite to be revealed and I am not talking about what we allready know about two of them since much more is not yet revealed. Since these elite specialisations are in some way tied to the new challenging group content (Yes you don’t have to use them in it), it would be nice if all off the players know what their Elite will be/do before the challenging group content gets revealed at PAX. So please ArenaNet do not leave us Engineers, Rangers, Thiefs and Warriors in agony any longer and reveal them before PAX.

Yesterday’s POI was indeed intersting and I liked the part with the sound department very much and see how they build up the sounds for the game. I like your idea of having departments show off their work for Heart of Thorns during POI. Just after the release of the game there were interviews with people of the art team about their work would love to see something like that again, Hidden Arcana is a good starter.

I have two requests for POI, the first is for PvP 1o1 I would like to hear something about keybindings I see you use E,R,F,C&Q for the utilities something that is not standard also I saw that Josh Davis had special keybindings for his Engineer’s toolbelt skills. I would love the hear more about that, as an engi I still have difficulty hitting the new F5 due to its positioning on the keyboard.

Second is just hoping from my side but when the Engineer’s elite specialization is announced I would love to see Colin Johanson come on POI to explain us about this elite specialization since he plays an Engineer himself.

I totally understand everyone who feels the expansion is not worth the money at the moment. I feel like they are creating somekind of drag in releasing new info and the amount of info they release. Last week with guild halls I thought they were getting into a hurry to get all intel out before the release but this week I feel dissapointed about just getting some info on new LA. I like the new setting and all but I too want to know what more HoT has to offer to us.

I also think ANet is not very good in releasing their info for instance about the amount of maps there will be. In the interview either Bogotter or Aurora Peachy had with Colin Johanson he says only Verdant Brink has a Meta event which is created around the Day and Night cycle. This probably means there will be at least one map more. And yes I agree with you not everyone checks Bogotter or Aurora Peachy and so it is not the best place for ANet to share their information it should also be somehow available on their site in ANet style. Next to that I also kind of understand form snippets here and there (don’t pin me on anything and if you want prove just ignore my statement) ANet wants to keep as much as possible secret for us to explore it like all LS releases (how lackluster some of you found them). Everyone assumes the ((Exalted)) will be the Mursaat but it is still between double brackets to keep it kind of secret since double brakets means working name.

TLDR: Yes ANet is not doing a good job at convincing people to pre purchase HoT and their communication is not always through the right channels.

Will base classes get Taunt/Slow/Resistance?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ThFH.6048

What I am worried about with these new conditions if do the old professions only get them in the specialisation and the Revenant in both it’s base class from 1-80 and in its specialisation. If so I think this creates an unfair advantage for new players who play a Revenant compared to an old profession since they get the more complete set of conditions and boons.
Also if the old base professions won’t get these conditions and boons ArenaNet will force players into the specialisations to get them something which will lower the build diversity.

Stronghold Will Ruin PvE Balance

ThFH.6048

What’s hilarious is that your acting like pve is balanced now. There are literally only two gear stats in pve, assassins and berserkers. There are only 7 out of 8 classes, necros being extremely subpar in comparison to every other class. Your worried about things that haven’t even happened yet. How about asking for Anet to finally make stats better across the board first, and making necros actually useful for something. Your complaining about problems that aren’t even there. This is nothing short of fear mongering, your literally being the FOX NEWS of guild wars.

You are correct nothing has happened and might never happen, you are also right about the lack of gear stats used in PvE. Balance might not be as important in PvE as in PvP but the changes still affect PvE gameplay. Over the last year ArenaNet tries to listen to its players and change things accordingly, so what OP has done is show his concerns about what might happen to some PvE mechanics so ArenaNet can think about it. This is what ArenaNet wants they want their players to give feedback and think with them and some things might be bordering conspiracy theories but can be valid concerns or at least deserve to be mentioned.

It is indeed a serious dillema, ArenaNet decided for the second with understandably for PvP since it is the mode that only works with good balance. Also ArenaNet wants their PvP to be at a E-sports level so many decessions are made to keep PvP games spectacular and allow different builds.

and in some dungeons ‘skipping’ or stealth is a main part of the its dungeon design

So, you are complaining, that you can’t abuse the stealth mechanic any more and actually have to fight your way through the dungeon, how it was originally designed to?

Have you ever played Arah path 1? Parts of it only house elite mobs and not three or five but around twenty mobs. Fighting them is nearly impossible so it is designed to skip and why do we have stealth if we are not allowed to use it. If we were not allowed to use it developers would have probably changed it.

So yes there is a serious concern that the stronghold mode will affect PvE builds and thus how the game works in PvE.

PvE balance is on a complete different level than tpvp. It just does not matter in PvE if a skill does 10% more damage or less, or has 5 seconds more CD or not.

So you agree with OP and with me that there should be soem kind of differentiation in PvP and PvE balance since it are two different game modes. Also I am not talking about damage -although with some of the dps races implemented it becomes more important- but about things like stealth and crowd control which are used on very specific times during dungeon runs and during events like tequatl and the tripple trouble wurm

Can we get a new host to POI yet? Someone like Josh or Hugh who are actually comfortable in front of the camera? Is there really nobody better at this than Rubi (who looks like a nice person but is really ill suited to the job)?

Please!?!

I’m really going to have to disagree with you here. I think Rubi is a fantastic host for the type of show that PoI seems to be. Its not a formal feature discussion show. Its a pve oriented informal show that highlights community things as well as whats going on in the game. Could be wrong, but thats the style that seems to be how they are proceeding. And for that, Rubi is doing a great job. I think everyone who is mad at the recent PoI was expecting it to be like the old blog posts during Beta. The ones that gave us in depth looks at features with commentary from folks like Colin. That doesn’t seem to be what PoI is about. The only reason we are seeing HoT stuff in PoI, I think, is because they think it would be cool to give us a little sneak peak.

Full on information is likely going to hit during or after the demo at Pax East. I expect to see a lot more formal style information dumps during that time. I don’t expect to find it on PoI and that is ok. I know people are starved for info right now and its frustrating, believe me, I know. But we can’t take it out on Rubi and her team for not providing what we think she should rather than what she is supposed to be providing.

You are correct I had hoped for more in depth explanations about something meaning a small part of Heart of Thorns like show us only some gliding but show us a bit off the evolution it will make unlocking new levels. I also don’t expect these explanations to be big but more like an in depth sneakpeak.

Concerning Rubi she sometimes seems not totally relaxed presenting but she is a good host on the right place. You can indeed look at Point’s of interest as a more informall show they have always communicated that Ready Up is the show for balance updates and skill changes. What bothers me to some extent is how they either overhype or trivalise the new updates and always seem to do it to the wrong updates. I however also understand that the developers have been working on this three years so are very exited to finally show what they are working on. This seems to clash with how much they are allowed to show and what we expect the to show.

Your reasoning about to giving us sneakpeaks first and give us the big in depth blogposts at a later time sounds interesting and makes sense.

Stronghold Will Ruin PvE Balance

in PvP

Posted by: ThFH.6048

ThFH.6048

It is not the damage part of PvE that will get nerfed but things like stealthstacking and crowd control that will get nerfed and those nerfs will highly affect how you can run dugeons and fractals.

The big question some of you have is why will this happen answer is simple. Because the PvP players will begin to scream that the thiefs stealth/smoke screens together with on other class’ abilty to have blast finishers makes them have a lot of stealth so they can easily acquire suplies and spend them. Same applies to crowd control because some crowd control skills are to strong they get nerfed.

Since there is only one balance in Guildwars 2 and that is PvP it will affect PvE as well and in some dungeons ‘skipping’ or stealth is a main part of the its dungeon design just like crowd control is something that gets used on some dungeon bosses or even open world bosses. So yes there is a serious concern that the stronghold mode will affect PvE builds and thus how the game works in PvE.

I have also wondered why they never changed the kits to be the same as attunments for elementalists, when you swap into a kit you get a buff on your character showing your opponents which kit you are wearing.

The reason elementalists have this buff is because the fire -or whatever element they use- around their arms is not always clear enough to see.

So why not do the same for Engineers and finally give them back their hardworked backpack.

Gliding[PoI Today]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ThFH.6048

ThFH.6048

TL;DR I read Rubi’s posts and want to add something.

For me Heart of Thorns is like a feature pack but larger and more story driven content. So when we talk about announcing the content I expect something like you do with the feature packs clear blog posts that go into depth about the new content about to be released.
The blog posts were in between all the marketing content clear in what they want to explain and did it. However the Point of Interest following up on these blog post were not as clear. While in my opinion the blog posts explain me what the masteries are the Point of Interest trivialise the content as the show a very very small portion of what it can be. This makes them feel very lackluster and indeed gives people an icecold shower.

I can understand that the expasion is much bigger than a feature pack but you should try and take the same aproach in how you show and explain new content and systems. Think about what you want to explain and give it clear borders and go some what in depth about this. Like yesterday you showed us the mushrooms and explained us what you would get further onto the mastery track, this was clear and made this track feel usefull. However the gliding track seems to me to be an prolonged falling to death without any real usage. When you had maybe shown us how it worked with updrafts and had glided to some remote place you can only reach this way people would have a bit more understanding about what gliding is.

It does not need to be much you show us but please show us something a bit in depth so we understand what you can work towards.

ThFH.6048

A typical MMO does usually have several expansion packs by now.
Guild Wars 2 is not your typical MMO.
So far we were told that they were testing the waters with the Living Story and the Feature Packs.

These two big staples of the game so far overhauled the core game experience from release to something I like to call GW2 2.0.
It`s better, easier and much more fair to the players than it was before.

They have allready created and are creating the groundwork for the future with these systems.
They put out content and change the system.
Of course they never archieved the level of attention of a full expansion.

Subsequently saying that the Expansion itself is being seen as the groundwork for the future, while they are already doing it is questionable for me.
In other MMOs expansions serve exactly that function. Lifting the game to a new level.

GW2 did the same thing for two years now. We have the 2.0 experience. We are at a comfortable place now. The expansion should come down with a bang. Taking this foundation and run away with it.
I think calling it the groundwork is underselling the work they are allready doing. It tells me that they have no confidence in their work so far.
However I might be overanalyzing it.

beta
Never said beta is a bad thing. A beta is highly appreaciated.
However the last “betas” were mostly internal and we got the NPE out of it. They had good betas as well, like the ones before launch, but right now I hope they are more inclusive.
I would love to give feedback.

Traitsystem
Yeah, they listened to the players after making a mistake. It`s a good thing. Might have been a bad example. The thing is, that they could have fixed it with a feature pack.
They could have set the mastery system seperately as well.
It`s a good thing they combine it. They could have give an estimate though (we will release more info early next year, for example)

Thanks for your reply personally I think this sounds more constructive than your earlier replies.

It is true many MMO’s are faster with releasing their expansion than GW2 is. Indeed we have been some kind of guineapigs for living story which became better in season 2 but still had some big flaws (biweekly releases?). For the feature pack I think their main purpose is a balance patch and backoffice maintenance and ‘trying’ to make some much wanted changes to the game making some things more GW1.

But I think the really important part of the feature packs was the backoffice maintenance of which we don’t know anything. This was the groundwork for the upcomming expansion making it possible to fit it on easily. Also I think that the core changes the feature pack brought with it will remain standing over the entire game both GW2 and Hearth of Thorns.

About Hearth of Thorns being the groundwork for the future I think you might indeed be overanalyzing but also I kind of agree with you. They should have been clearer about what they ment with groundwork in both explanations feature pack and expansion pack. For Hearth of Thorns I think they ment the groundwork for future expansions.

Mike O’Brien said they will not raise the levelcap and the tier of gear achievable so they have to come up with some other kind of endgame content in which a player can advance. This will be the masteries system what I understand form Colin Johanson is that almost all skills are tied to achieving things in the new areas opened up by the expansion. So if they will ever release a new expansion or livingstory season they can build on this masteries system to give players extra endgame content. E.g. if they will ever release the deep see dragon you can maybe get a masteries track in which you can swim in strong currents like in this release you can glide along winds flowing over the map.

I agree with you that using the term groundwork two times without any context can be very confusing and indeed can be interpreted as they are feeling insecure since they keep changing the ‘core’ game.

Sorry for the misunderstanding about Betas that was how I interpreted your posts it seems we are on the same page betas are good to get player feedback and testing. I did not know about the new player experience but have to agree it wasn’t good betatesting.

Is Anet being too secretive?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ThFH.6048

ThFH.6048

I agree, to a certain extend.
They didn`t follow up on that and that backfired on them.

Are they too secretive? Hell yes. Mostly for PR reasons, which I start to hate, of course.

Sadly if you look around into interviews and some infos from the aftershow party, etc. then it pictures a very insecure Anet.

They announced this expansion as: Groundwork for the future
However isn`t that what the Living Story and Feature Packs are for? Building the groundwork for further development, so bigger things can easily fit in?

Now we hear that features of these “groundwork” feature packs will be retired (new trait systems. Of course it is a good move, I don`t argue that).

That systems shown are not finalized. Not in terms of balance or stability, but how they fit in in general.
It sounds like they build cool toys, but are unsure how to use them.

I may be exaggerating, but the secrecy and these behind the szenes “unsure” statements do not create security. More the opposite.

If they had any they would have given a release date. Would have shown something live.
They didn`t and that saddens me.

There are several big questions they could flat out say: No, won`t be in the pack, maybe later
Like the Pole Arms, who are apparently not part of the expansion, but the art team having fun.

This secrecy they try right now made sense before release. Now, with many people playing the game for over two years, voicing our opinions and concerns it does have no place.

I was burned a lot by the hype train of Anet`s PR. I don`t believe I am the only one there.

The expansion announcement for me was: “Yes, that is to be expected. People were asking for two years for this stuff.”
The only secret thing they got here is the story. The rest has been talked to dead and holding back that info is just annoying PR.

ArenaNet might be very (and mabye even too) secretive about their future plans but they have very good reason for that. In the past they raised the expectations to much and could not deliver.

As for the feature packs they are there to make balance changes and give us non story related quality of life updates like the wardrobe and the traits overhaul. This still means they are there to lay the groundwork for future updates of the game. I also think there are a lot fixes and changes happening witht the feature packs of which we don’t know anything and do not need to know anything.

What the Heart of Thorns expansion will do however is lay the groundwork for expanding on end game content. Masteries and specialisations seem to be ways to expaned on your character after it reaches it final level. I personally like that they add it with an expansion instead of just add it with a feature pack since now it feels more embedded in the story of the world instead of something without any background.

Your example of retiring the current traitsytem is not an example of ArenaNet abandoning feature packs it is an example of ArenaNet listening to their players. The biggest complain about the traits system was that for every alt you made you had to acquire all traits again making it a grind (something Anet does not want). My expectation is that the traitsystem overhaul will be nothing else than that acquiring traits will become acountbound like the masteries instead of soulbound like it is now.

These two things might do the same thing but on a different level and that makes that they add up to each other my guess is that half a year after Heart of Thorns is released we will see the a new feature pack to balance all the changes they made with the expansion and how players use them.

This leads me to your second point arenanet doubting itself about all the changes they are going to make. You are saying if a beta is neccessary your product is not good so you are saying that almost every multiplayer game released these days is not good. What I know of world of warcraft is that every expansion they released came after months of betatesting and allmost every time their subscriptions numbers went up so you are wrong it stating a beta is for losers. A beta is there to see if everything is indeed balanced as it should be and everything is working as it should be. This indeed means you are getting a beta of an allready existing game but you are getting a beta of the new features added to the existing game to be sure they work.

Triple Trouble wurm Mordemoth champion?

Becoming a condi for the tripple trouble event ment I have spend some time with the husk champions over the last week. This made me thinkg they look the same as the husks in the silverwastes which are Mordremoths minions. We also know Mordremoth likes leylines very much and that the probs that attract the wurm are used to tap into the leyline network. So this made me think what if the wurm was the first action of Mordremoth to look for the leylines making this threeheaded wurm the first champion of Mordremoth we have encounterd.

Masteries acountbound do the same for traits

It is great ArenaNet has listened to one of the biggest complaints about unlocking traits especially for alts made after the feature patch of april 2014 and made the masteries acountbound. I hope ArenaNet will do the same with traits when they release Heart of
Thorns. So when you unlock them for one character you unlock them for every character you have and will make in the future.

I have only one request.
If Jeremy Soule is going to be the songmaker of the new soundtrack.

Do not add a coupon for this directsong kitten. Put the OST directly inside the collector’s edition.

I’m still waiting for the delivery of the GW2 OST order on directsong 2 years ago…

I agree please give us the soundtrack hardcopy or downloadable from the guildwars 2 site. I have looked at how directsong worked and could not find out if it worked for Europe.

I also hope they will release the system requirements very soon I have an old laptop that runs GW2 so I cannot handle much more.

They said that the maguuma jungle is the most detailed part of the world they created so it might be the graphic engine has been updated.

If so it would be really nice of Anet to give their loyal players some time to upgrade their computers.

ANet. Where is Cantha?

It does not make sense to go to cantha how do we even come there? The oceans are getting terrorised by some kind of minions of the deepsee dragon and the remains of the undead fleet. I think that after we killed Mordremoth we will move towards the crystal desert where krallkatorik is from there we can enter Elona and get a bigger foothold along the oceans to attack the deep see dragon or even find a safe passage to Cantha.

About Asians being offended by Cantha being a mixed Asian culture I can only say: Je suis Charlie.

I like your ideas for a collector’s edition about the statue added to the edition I agree with Eowin Of Rohan not another Rytlock but something else to join him would be great. Seeing the creatures in the trailer there is enough to choose from a teragriff is just one of the first choices I think there are better choices we don’t know of.

Day 1 Revenant: Level 1 or Level 80?

I will level the hard way I might use a birthday scroll but as some said earlier it would be fun to just level it from scratch without the scrolls since you will understand its skills better. The only thing I will use are the skillpoint scrolls to get the skills quicker but nothing else.

Time to refocus and clarify GW2's goals?

I like this game very much if I would ask ArenaNet to refocus it would be conerning Living story. In july 2013 ArenaNet started marketing Living story as biweekly story updates. Although these updates very much lacked a good overall story except for the magic word (Scarlet) we had at least the promissed biweekly story updates.

When you took some extra time this January to polish the final updates I understood it and I also understood you took a break in March when you finished season 1. When season 2 came in July I was excited new biweekly story releases like a year before. But in August I grew sad when you told us there would be mid season break of allmost 3 months before living story continued. For me it kind of felt like betrail to what you promised a year before.

So if I would like to ask to refocus it would be on the release philosphy you are following. Especially since it took about a month for the feature patch to come after Dragons Reach part 2. Also the WvW season following the feature patch did not feel like living story since it was more of the same with extra rewards. Then came Halloween no problem you recycled the old event but please recycle the whole event meaning make the Mad Memories available again since not many players reached lvl 80 or whatever was neccesassarry to get to the last ghost in a month after release. So please say yes we will be releasing things biweekly or say no we quited that and you will only be getting about 8 episodes of living story a year (assuming you will use the same schedule you used this year).

Living story and DA inquisition release

I am screaming in agnoy because the PC specs of Dragon Age: Inquisition are 64 bits and I have an old 32 bits laptop.

Hypotheticly it would also depend on what the achievements are, if they are easy and can be done fast I would try and finish them and start playing Dragon Age. But I agree they should think about when they release Living Story November is not really a good mont some time after the big releases would be more fun.
