All of you “other” Alts think you have it bad? HA I say HA! My Master had the unmitigated gall to actually change my name to Vanishing Closet! I used to have a pretty name. Now I am a glorified pack mule that holds the other’s stuff that they don’t want to hold. I sit in Divinity’s Reach at the bank vault and never get to move. He even took my daggers away so I can’t stab him!
The engi portion of the stream gave me an anxiety attack! Seriously.
I am so excited by the changes coming I can stand it. Annoyed about the range reduction on grenades, but as long as mortar gives us our missing 1500 range attacks back I will be happy. Going to probably start running the mortar full time regardless anyway.
I am rather sad about the range reduction on grenades, however it HAS been a point of conflict with a lot of people being 1500 range on something you throw by hand versus a gun that only shoots 1200. So I understand. The new and improved Mortar Elite I really hope will give us that 1500 range attack back. The potential for mortar and the healing kinda reduces the sting on the grenade nerf. Needless to say, the first spec I make will focus on these healing explosions. I am very excited.
Depends on what the specializations are for Engi and Thief. If thief ends up getting rifle and becoming a sniper I will turn my thief to that and hit the new zone. If not I will hit the new zone with my engi new spec or not. Not sure how I feel about the hammer on engi, but if we are getting drones I am all over that. I will probably wait to make a Rev until the rush wears off. I have one of every character as it is so have PLENTY to mess with before diving in to a whole new character. Oh yeah, and first thing I do when I get character figured out is figure out how to fly!
I have an interesting issue. I am trying to submit a customer support ticket for the purpose of changing my email address. I keep getting an error back saying that the account name/email address can not be blank. It is not blank! I tried submitting three times making sure every form with an * next to it was filled properly including my account name/ address. I am moving soon so need to get this resolved soon. Thank you.
Having same issue, not getting any emails from anet, no confirmation or anything.
Same issue. Constant DCs. One more and I am done for the night.
There are a few points people seem to be glossing over. First off, there is zero reason why the Tengu would not know what is going on or has gone on in the storyline. There are multiple Tengu in various places around the current landscape. Merchants for the most part and there are even heart quests and events tied to them. I forget which zone, but it’s one of the early ones.
Second, During the personal story when you go to Concordia you enlist the help of a Tengu weaponsmith to work for the newly formed pact.
Third, (spoiler ahead so if you have not done current LS don’t read) We have no idea what has become of the pact after the major stomping they got when they attacked Mordy. It is very possible the pact in the form we know, no longer exists. So current characters will probably have to deal with that issue as well. To say nothing about the fact that Trahearne and some PCs are Sylvari.
Fourth, If any new race were introduced, their back story would have to be told during current events as sort of a recap of what has gone on since game start. Then leading in to the next phase of the story (Heart of Thorns.) If you remember, the first two major plots in the personal story are just that, personal. They have nothing to do with the pact or the orders. Winning the snaff prize, saving DR from bandits or rebuilding your warband or whatever. At the point in the progression where current characters would be introduced to the orders is where you would jump into the current story. The new race, instead of joining one of the orders, you would meet the Biconics instead. There is nothing stopping Anet from using different dialogue to fit a new race going forward. They already do that as it is, depending on race and sometimes class.
There are endless ways a new race could be brought up to speed using the context of the personal story, before transitioning into the living story. Any good writer could do it and Anet has some very amazing writers.
All that being said, I have mixed feelings about adding any new race. It would have to make sense in the context of the story moving forward. However, saying it can’t happen at all is just flat out not thinking creatively. Of course it can be done, it will just take some very creative writing.
Thayel, I think you’re on to something. Only it’s Ho-Ho-Al. We were wondering where the real Ho-Ho-Tron had gone, right?
Actually I think Ho-Ho changed his designation to Ho-Ho-Ziggy and he is serving as the link between Tyria and the Mists but only the Ho-Ho-Al can communicate with him.
He’s probably hoping that his next leap is the leap home.
He has also picked up a new companion named Al. He is helping Rytlock navigate the mists and telling him where he needs to go.
Never gets old.
This right here! This is the whole reason I leveled a necro.
Some things I think would be interesting for this would be; increased duration to an hour (minimum) on food effects and perhaps a small bonus in magic find on all foods in addition to different effects based on the food itself such as stats increases or what not. Effects that relate directly to the mordrem would be nice, but I don’t think it should be just mordrem… should be any dragon corrupted or created mob. Also, interesting and unique buffs that are not already present. We already have condi reduction, so instead how about 50% chance to reflect condi on a 15 to 30 second cooldown? Or 10% chance on being hit causes chill on attacker. Something that makes the food unique and not just a slightly higher boost to food effects we already have.
Also, I can see these being account bound, which would not bother me as I have two capped chefs, but for people that don’t, the ability for us to craft placeable trays or whatever would be nice.
As I said before, I’ll be disappointed if there’s not a food cart in the next few patches. I’d love to see it move to a random location in a new map every patch. I don’t even mind if there’s not recipes for sale, just some fun items to play with.
Bloodstone Nopale Thrasher soup: makes you vomit every few seconds (similar to too much candy).
Bloodstone Ghost Poppers: makes your character start screaming for water because it’s too hot. (ever eat something way too hot?)
Bloodstone Sunday: So good it makes you pass out.
Bloodstone Merangue Pie: perfect for throwing
That would be EPIC!!! then, after a few patches of him moving around selling terrible failures, he could succeed, and that would launch grandmaster crafting
These ideas could be really fun and would make the increase in cooking skill enjoyable. Having to battle through the failures with “interesting” side effects could be very comical and fun. Culminating with the final ah’ha! moment when it all comes together.
These achievement guides are very helpful.

As Hidden Arcana is very long, if you mess up on one boss, you can interact with a challenge mote and re-do that specific boss without having to do the whole instance from the start.
(Thanks Anet!)
The guides here give you some helpful hints on how to get past some of the more difficult tasks. Personally, I only had to repeat the recon one where you have to keep your squishy vigil noobs alive, (seriously, these two are Vigil they should not be as squishy as they are!) And the fist boss that you can’t get knocked down… had to restart that fight five or six times, mostly because I kept dodging myself off the edge.
When you wish you could blink/shadowstep across the street instead of waiting for a pedestrian crosswalk.
…Or is that just everyone regardless?
This literally just happened to me! It’s really cold outside and I had to take the trash out. I stepped outside got “chilled” and thought “Gods I wish I had condi removal and blink right now.”
Same issue. Seed was in character vault, made the first back piece a few days ago.
Smashing into his shield with this sun crystal is a hit or miss deal that can be caused by your aim being off or latency. Beyond that, the fight is actually very easy if you stay at range. I went through the whole story on my Engi and for this fight just tossed grenades at him. Was kinda fun having a grenade duel.
I strongly dislike the whole jumping and aspect thing in this release. Jumping around (jump puzzles and such) are the one area of this game that really tick me off, as I am a very vertically challenged person.
That being said, I do like the story and the map, small as it may be, is gorgeous. However, this aspect thing just does not work for me. Only way I can get past the aspect parts is for a mesmer to port me. Hopefully they move away from that.
Only issue I had with this “story” is that I want to hang out and do research with Taimi! I was just as excited as she was when we got to the end part.

The Dev Tracker is there for a reason. Every time I come to the forum that is the first thing I click and scroll through. The message about these things going away when patch hit was posted days ago. People were talking about it in map chat constantly. My guild has a person that puts important information like this in our in game message of the day. Might wanna think about having a guildmate do the same for your own guild. If you were caught “unaware” then you were not paying attention.
Same here. No cut scene on 3 L80 characters so far. Got the flicker on the load screen like it tried to load the scene and then ended up at totally different waypoint from where I came in at.

The ending cut scene when it is twig stomping time was amazing. Jory and Kas were great and Rox and Braham were also great. Kitty stayed by her man, totally made my day. Remind me never to make Kas mad. Anet, you guys did a great job on this. Can’t wait to see the aftermath.
Mine is also 1600×900.
Yeah I find it very annoying. My main is an Engi and this back piece looks so awesome on him. Not only do kits mess it up by not showing at all or clipping, if you run pistol/shield, the shield on your back does the same thing. There is a toggle to show/hide the back piece slot. If you have it set on it really should override and force the back slot item to show regardless of whatever else is on your back.
In peacetime: “By Ogden’s Hammer, what savings!”
Fleeing LA: “By Ogden’s Hammer, my savings!”
At refugee camp: “By Ogden’s Hammer, what a saving!”
These 100% Post of the day.
Wow that is small. I was thinking about saving up for it, but if it is going to be that small over my Asura main I’m not going to waste my time. That thing really does need a size increase.
All I can say at this point is wow. Like I said earlier, I will do my best to pick someone up from a downed state during an event. But I am not picking up your corpse during a timed or escort event. The last thing I expect from someone is a “TY.” You want to thank me for helping you rally? Dodge yourself out of danger heal up and get back to the fight. In these kinds of events typing anything can be lethal. What I “expect” is for that player to pay it forward and help someone else in the same situation. I run a healing build so I am constantly zipping around the battlefield tossing heals and helping rally.
When I see a downed player, or even a dead one off on their own away from events, I will stop and rez them. During events, especially these ones with massive amounts of aoe all over and those death lasers, I will “try” and rez a downed person. If however a red circle appears, I am dodging away. If you are dead, you are getting left there. Most of the events have a time component so when you die waypoint and run back. The lazy dead people that litter the battlefield are a big part of the reason these events fail. If an event is going on don’t expect people to pick up your corpse. If there is not an event right there and someone doesn’t stop to help you up, I would agree with you that that is just rude. Same if you are just in a down state trying to rally. I will always help someone trying to rally as long as I think I can do it without getting myself downed in the process.
Someone at Anet needs to screenshot that and make it that guys desktop before he comes in to the office.
I main an Engi in WvW, and while we do have some access to stability I never run with it. I rely on others to give it to me and do alright for the most part. That being said, the only times I have gone off a cliff in EotM was either because I threw myself off because I wasn’t paying attention to my location, or some necro feared me. Oh and there was that one mesmer that I got kitteny with and we shot each other off the edge. I got his loot bag at the respawn and he probably got mine too. (btw it was a good 3 minutes of us both trying to fling each other off the edge but we were both too good not to go over… until we both made a critical oops.) My own necro will hit 80 next time I play him and I can’t wait to get him into EotM. Fear city baby! It is very easy to not go over a cliff. Just pay attention to your location.
Personally, I think it should be a requirement for every person that works on a game to actually play it. The fact that Anet people run around in WvW with us a lot is just wonderful. I love it when I see an Anet tag running around friend or foe. It shows us that they are not just some name on the forum. I would think it also must be nice for them to beat the ever loving snot out of us sometimes. “Complain about how we nerfed your class? take that!” (blasts player)
EDIT: Started going back over these again. In Maelstrom, the one at the vent poi updated and the achievement completed for me. I find this odd because that particular one is the first one I started with on that map each prior attempt.
I went through all 24 twice and still sitting at 23/24. After some thought about this, here is what I remember.
1. When the build first went live, I went to kill the witch because she was up. After that I saw the node and went to check it out. I did not have the item for it. Went and got item came back and got the node.
2. Cleared all 4 in kessex that day, plus one other that was next to one of the witch kills.
3. Logged out for the day, came back to an update and went to finish this off. When I started I had 5/23 By the time I got around to looking at how many I had I was sitting at 22/24 with only one left to go. While I was going off a guide, a guild mate decided to tag along with me in maelstrom and he told me about the one missing from the guide so we hit that one first, for the correct total on that map of 4.
4. On several of the nodes there were no mobs. A few times the mobs spawned while I was channeling and interrupted me.
5. After getting to the 23/24 mark and having been to all 24, just to double check I went through and did it again. All 24 in one sitting, all said I had used them.
(edited by Thayel.1236)
I have the same problem, 23/24 Went through all of them with a guildmate, rechecked and rechecked again. Yes I got the 4 in Malestrom including the one that is not listed right on dulffy. I did get interrupted on a couple of them the first time around, however on all my rechecks they all say that they were done.
I am not happy about the rocket toolbelt change. I really really really miss the old animation! I like that the rocket is bigger, but by the eternal alchemy it is so bloody slow and unwieldy. I can see a use for clearing walls (although I have not tried that yet because of the insane queue for WvW,) but for literally every other thing, by the time the rocket actually hits where you told it to, the mob is back home with his feet up on the table drinking a beer and yelling at the kids to shut up.
Human vs Asura, there is no contest. Midget Power! My Engi is an Asura and I got the magitech suit for the celestial armor he crafted. I have found that I prefer running around in that over his T1/T2 mix match zerker set because of the way it looks.
On a similar note, I am very anti-human, but I finally made one just so I could finish the achievements. Made a second Necro, as my original (only L66) is a Charr that I promised I would only play with a friend of mine that hasn’t been around much. Got the human necro to 35 last night and started looking at the culture armor and all I could say was ewwwww. Trying to convince myself to delete him now rather then just turning him into another vanishing closet.
The moral of this story is; always choose Asura (or any other race for that matter) over Humans.
1) Risk vs Reward, (appropriate rewards for level of risk.)
2) Viable conditions in multi player settings, (groups, open world events etc.)
3) New non-gem store armors, (new racial armors for each tier acquired in the same way would be a good start.)
1) population balance
2) Anti-zerg mechanics
3) Account bound ranks
-snip-
Other textures I’d like to play with are long grasses, curly vines, weathered leaves and more flowers. The flower hair design was changed up for the male and female versions: I know it’d be a shame if the strapping young lads were denied flowers! However, the blossom design alone really wouldn’t sit well on them. So I thought the more tarzan/rockstar bud design solved that issue… still a flower, but tailored for him. ;}Keep up the great posts and sketches, guys! I love seeing what you guys do and it’s always a great window into some of what sylvari players want.
Most of my characters are Sylvari (male) mostly because the artwork for them is among the most stunning I have ever seen in a game. All of mine wear cultural armor as well. I was very excited about the new hairstyles and bought a hair change thingy a couple days before the new hairs came out.
That being said, the flower bud one that from the front looks kind of long and rockstar-ish, I noticed a good bit of clipping with the shoulder piece on the cultural T1 armor. That was the only set I looked at though so not sure about the other sets. I have always been partial to long hair on male characters, (I have very long hair myself,) and not many games out there have ever really pulled it off well. The other new style is too pulled back for my taste, yet it does have a decent long hair feel to it.
The long grass concept you mention sounds very interesting. It could take an appearance that is a bit closer to “hair” and could open a lot of design possibilities. You would have to be careful though so that it still looks like grass and not just thick hair. Long strands of leafy ivy would also be a nice twist for long hair.
As for the “armor polish” comment along with the incentive. My only incentive is to have fun and enjoy a game. If your only incentive is a digital reward in a digital world for the shortest amount of time possible then you should ask yourself if your time is really worth it. If I am not having fun playing a game I will find something else that I do find fun.
The armor polish is called “Fun.” If you are not having it, it helps you find it.
There is an old saying; “You will catch more flies with honey then you will with vinegar.” Some of you may want to think on that.
So what should people who dont like the game say:
“Anet you guys rock. You devs are so amazing and have created a wonderful game. Oh the art work is amazing and the game feels like a game. However…….heres a list of kitten thats kittened up:
vinegar vinegar vinegar all over this nice smooth honey”
Well for starters you can leave the poor kitty out of it, he just wants cheeseburgers.
There is a big difference between constructive criticism and anger fueled complaining. Under no circumstances do I think there are no problems with this game. My main is an Engi, the list of things that are out of whack with them is very long and well known.
If you created something and there was an issue with it, which would you prefer?
“dude yer mechanics are all kitten and yer a kitten for putting this kitten in public.”
or
“The turrets seem to have a much larger hitbox and the hp seems a bit low. A hitbox that more accurately accounts for the size of the turret and an adjustment on the hp is something you should look in to.”
Which one do you think you would actually ponder?
I have mixed feelings about the new hair styles. I only use male characters so keep that in mind. I was most interested in the Sylvari ones as I have 3 Sylvari. The issue I have is with the really bad clipping on the shoulder piece of my cultural armor (light t1.)
I bought a hairstyle change thingy just for the new hair for my mesmer. After seeing how bad it clipped with his shoulder piece it went back in my vault. The mohawk for male Asura looks promising, so that is probably what I’ll do. He currently looks like he stuck his finger in an electrical socket so any change would be an improvement for him.
I really don’t understand people. I have been playing MMOs since UO first came out and it’s been the same thing in every public forum. Nothing but complaining. If you are not happy then go away. The OP was trying to voice his appreciation for a game and dev team that he enjoys.
Personally, I am still enjoying this game. I love the fact that there are content updates so frequently, even when it is content I am not fond of, such as SAB. Is it perfect? No, but then nothing is ever perfect. However, after a year I am still playing with only two of the character classes in this game not at max level, each fully decked out in at least exotic, and 1 with full ascended. I like the direction the game is going and I do not see me leaving this game anytime soon.
To the OP: I commend you on voicing your appreciation to a team that mostly only hears negativity for trying to create some enjoyment in the world. I am right there with you!
There is an old saying; “You will catch more flies with honey then you will with vinegar.” Some of you may want to think on that.
I really enjoy all the dragon fights and the changes made with Teq. That being said, I seriously doubt I will be attempting that fight again anytime soon. I’m on Blackgate and every time I have gone out there I was in an overflow. After waiting around for 3 rotations of the fight and STILL being in overflow I gave up. Maybe after the hype wears down and you don’t get stuck in overflow for several hours I will consider trying again.
The lower IQ Asura just hang out with individual Skritt so they can feel smart.
While 3 of my characters are Sylvari, the line that sticks in my head comes from my Asuran Engi. When he gets Swiftness buff (which is about every 5 seconds!) he yells “Accelerate!” However, it sounds more like he is yelling Ex-Celery! So I always picture him running faster when he sees his Ex-girlfriend the cute Sylvari chick. (she is why his ears are all torn up.)
If you are running nades as your main damage you have no auto attack. If you likewise do not use fast cast ground attacks you have to double tap to throw your nades. So depending on how you define “button mashing,” with nades you are going to be hitting buttons very fast and furious and likely develop wrist pain. However, if you are mindlessly pressing buttons and just throwing grenades around frantically you are probably not going to hit much and only succeed in getting splattered across the countryside.
There is a lot of finesse to engi combat (with any build.) We are anything but a press one or two button and win class. The above analogy of playing a piano is very accurate. Play it wrong and it sounds like you are torturing some poor animal. Play it right and people will cheer.
Phineas poe’s FT guide works just fine in WvW, I use it a lot there with different armor. In WvW I typically run full celestial armor with runes of altruism and full zerker trinkets. (although I think my back piece is PVT.) Just keep in mind that FT is a power based weapon. The condition damage is just gravy. The #2 attack can do incredible damage when you detonate it right. With altruism runes you will have perma 7 might minimum. Add in strength sigil to gain might on crit I will typically hover around 20 might in most fights and often be at full 25.
I main an Engi almost entirely in WvW. I tend to go back and forth between a nade build and an FT/EG build. That being said, CC is a major problem, especially while running FT. What saves my tiny little Asuran backside most of the time is Rocket Boots. Just make sure you jump away from the zerg rather then deeper into it!
I find that more often then not what gets me is retaliation. Our main attacks in both FT and Nades hit so many times that you really have to watch your health. However, a quick heal turret/overcharge/detonate/rocket boot the heck away from the zerg will normally keep you alive, (unless you bork the rocket jump and jump into the zerg instead of away… then you’re toast.)
All I can say is; “Midget Power!”
My battle cry whenever I run into battle. Awesome video that shows how great Engi is. Two Ears Up my friend!
