I don’t understand 2v1 talk. It’s a 3 way battle, there’s always gonna be 2 servers attacking you at almost anytime.

If this happens past your prime time, surely you see that if you’re smaller in numbers you become the natural target for capping points? Who wants to go through hours of fights and wipes just to secure something that is so well defended?

?_? please stop accusing people of 2v1, that’s just stupid.

To add to, and clear this up a little:

1) Over the past few weeks it has appeared that TC and FA are leaving each other alone to concentrate on DB.
2) This has been confirmed to be PURELY COINCIDENCE by one of FA’s main ex-guild leaders (who did a great job in EB last night, btw)- there is no official alliance between TC and FA.
3) Unofficial alliances, however, are part of WvW. If we want to push a particular server, we usually force the 3rd server to stop attacking us – hence, unofficial alliance. That’s probably all that is happening.

I think that DB is purposefully lowering their rating because they think they can eat up some easy points on two “fattened pigs” later on when they get whatever guilds they are currently farming for.

It doesn’t really matter what they do. Nobody is really going to respect any victory won by bank rolling a bunch of huge guilds over.

What if I told you that guilds are paying for their own transfers? DB isn’t “bankrolling” anything.

Repair bills have been astronomical this weekend… I guess we’re experiencing the full might of TC, now that their PVE/college population is back in WvW…

I’m not “hiding” anything, I’m just pointing out that it’s not like DB just has some giant war chest and we’re bribing all these guilds. What’s happening is people are choosing to come here and some of the WvW guilds already here are helping them out with their transfer fees. If someone considers that dishonorable or cheap I don’t really know what to tell them. I might laugh though.

That being said, I love how DB is still getting all the negative attention despite TC’s observable population increase. They weren’t “full” two weeks ago, but I don’t see people saying they deserve to be disrespected for it.

The status of a server’s population has little to do with actual WvW numbers… or have you forgotten that TC is also the unofficial NA RP server? If I remember correctly, we were also (somehow) designated as the unofficial PvE server on Reddit a few months ago.

There was a solid week (or two) of how TC was buying its way to 1st and “destroying” T2 by creating a massive imbalance… you must of missed that.

Having a green button is painful; instead of quoting posts, I end up making them the scoreboard update!

You should stop spewing misinformation. If you were paying attention, the tier was already imbalanced because Kaineng was imploding.

You still get good fights in Tier 2, right? So why are you still crying? It’s not like we were winning by +595 all day, every day.

If you choose not to play, don’t blame other people. As was demonstrated yesterday, FA does have the population to do big pushes. Perhaps not all the time, but that’s irrelevant

Relax just relaying the vibe hence the quotes over destroying. The context being TC got quite a lot of flak over our transfers which ol’boy seemed to miss.

Well if you look closely, I wasn’t actually talking to you at first. I was responding to a post that implied DB deserved no respect because the server was “bankrolling” its guilds. That’s not exactly what is going on, no one is actually being paid to come here.

‘Getting more people’ is never going to be a strategy folks will respect. Doesn’t matter if you are paying them or not and any success a server has after getting a bunch of transfers is tainted.

I don’t understand that philosophy.

If a server receives an influx of players, which puts them on par with the servers above them, why is that a bad thing?

If a sports team lands the high-price, big name free agent, are they then “tainted” because they didn’t do it with less talent?

If the game is about coverage, and someone decides to address that issue, why are they badmouthed for trying?

The closest sport I can come up with is baseball (no salary cap). In that case yes teams are “tainted” when they’re seen to be buying up all talent. Now if there was some sort of balancing feature to keep servers competitive, then any moves within that construct would be received better.

I just got rocked by a ranger and his bird, leopard, wolf, and I think there was a lynx at one point lol. Seemed to be switching constantly and there was always more than one pet out at once. As soon as he stomped me all the other pets were gone and he ran off with just the wolf.

No there wasn’t another ranger around, just wondering if there is some sort of new “trick” I dont know about or what.

You do realize that you while its being reduced down to spvp lvls you can stack stats higher in WvW. This means that while it’s a bit lackluster in spvp it might be closer to an acceptable medium WvW.

Bomb kit, slick shoes, elixir S, Supply crate and med kit for heals. It can take a hit, dishes the pain, and has tons of mobility to run away or run down some.
wep swap chill and two immobs plus slick shoes helps keep people in the red circles of love.

Rifle, Net-Turret, and Tool Kit, Goggles (blind resist can be clutch when bursting a thief) with static discharge. Its what I roll and it ruins most thieves day. Those that beat me 1 on 1 I just chalk up to me mismanaging my cooldowns or them just being better than me.

Hell bombs and slick shoes works well too.

I can see how with our CC and such we would be an annoying fight for a thief, but other classes probably do it better overall.

Wow lol! Didn’t know we could play this game on a Xbox controller!

That’s a feat I think.

But I have question for you!

- How do you aim grenade ? or Any AoE targetted?
- How do you switch target vs a mesmer? With so many clone you must tab a lot!

Oh it’s quite simple.

How to use targetted AoE skills: My left trigger releases my mouse pointer so it moves normally, that’s how I can target while moving. If the target is close enough I dont even need to worry about targeting, cause my pointer is always in the middle of the screen, a bit in front of my toon, co I can even evade, turn or w/e and drop granades to enemies in front of me with no problem. If they’re farther away I just release the mouse pointer and aim while moving.

How to aim the right mesmer: When I press and hold my right bumper, it locks a target (it’s faster than you think), so I lock lock lock and when I lock the right mesmer I mark it. If I ever lose the lock, I can always lock it back again easily cause it’s been marked.

And it’s fun =D I use PGP for that btw.

I use a 360 controller as well, nice to see someone else rocking it.

Net turret has become a staple of all my power builds in WvW. The CC it puts out is crazy once you get the timing down for overcharges and combine them with your own immobs. Now that the turret won’t overwrite your conditions with weaker versions I’m messing around with a condi build using either flame or rocket turret, but still figuring that one out.

Oh and it turns out net turret > then all but one thief I’ve faced since using it.

If I had to guess I’d say they’re jobbing to get this patch done. You could argue communicating with us is also part of their job (and I would agree), but I would say it would probably be one of the first things dropped when time becomes an issue.
You could argue it doesn’t take much to just shoot out a reply during a break, but if my job involved a computer as much as a dev’s did the absolute last thing I would do when I had a moment of free-time is get on a computer. I’d be outside for some air or walk around the building a BS with other people, hell anything but keep sitting in front a computer doing… computery stuff.

Doesn’t make them right, just makes them human.

Another angle is with how “disconnected” some of you think the devs are from the player base, imagine how worse their bosses are. How understanding would they be if they found out that instead of pushing this patch out, they were trying to put out the ever raging inferno of the vocal minority on the forums. Probably as understanding as your boss when you take a cell phone call during the lunch rush at your mc’job or w/e :P

That last bit wasn’t me putting the dev’s above you, more about me putting myself above you, cause well it makes me giggle.

Net Turret for Bunker Engineers

Try out the rifle, I think you’ll like it. My current build (used mostly in WvW) is running a net turret with a rifle for even more immob insanity. with goggles and the sitting duck trait its also a quick way to stack 20 vuln.. capping to 25 if you use jump shot as well.

I use it a little differently than you as I’m not holding a point. I usually engage with some auto attacks and then feign a retreat with the enemy (best way to get them to run right at you) and then fire net tool belt out my butt. at which point I drop net turret turn around use my rifle net shot, goggles tool belt, tool kit tool belt and then blunderbuss, overcharge shot (towards my net turret of course) which I also overcharge. This is a great opening combo and applies tons of cc and pressure while doing good damage too (using the trait for static discharges of course).

Works great in WvW where the most prominent classes out there rely on mobility for survival.

Decided to undertake this little project after realizing that all I want to do is play WvWvW these days.

Just wondering what class you think would have the best shot at doing this without extreme amounts of frustration. Guardian jumps to mind, but having only leveled an engi to 80 I have no idea which class would be a good fit for this. If all else fails I could roll engi again and use my experience with that class as a crutch I guess…

If any of you have done this before any insight into how to most efficiently level would be nice (outside of surfing the zerg of course which I intend to do without shame :P). When I’m queued and/or too worked up to WvWvW I’m going to play the TP, so hopefully money isn’t too big an issue.

It’s pretty obvious that the toolbelt will be changed at some point (did this used to be a knockdown or blowout or something before?), so I ask that you consider making it a stun-break.

Seems only right that the jester of versatility get a toolbelt stun-break and would make 4 turret builds alot more viable. Of course this is only my selfish opinion, but I don’t really see anything wrong with the idea.

It is probably going to become my main build as I am really impressed with turrets despite the negativity surrounding them, I’m still figuring out stats for it (mainly how much survivability can I sacrifice for more burst). but I’ve used a variant of it on all aspects of the game (except Fractals, but PvE is PvE). Static discharge used with the toolbelt abilities (which beside damage can output immob and 15 stack of vuln) and mixed with a rifle chain is a good clip of damage that can be used like any other rifle build with the same expected result.

The net turret throws people off their game extremely well in pvp and used with the rocket turrets overcharge has people hating life all while you damage and cc with your rifle great against any class who needs mobility to live (all of them it seems these days)

fun fact the rocket’s overcharge javelin like trajectory is great for keep sieges on defense or offense.

I like the build because you can be mobile when you need to, hole up when you have to, and escape when things go wrong. Best part is I’m not even that good with it yet, so I’m pretty amped at how effective it is with my currently sloppy play.

The elite and the runes is all personal preference. I used them to try and create a game changer move for when it all goes wrong. Usually if my auto-S goes off I heal up (heal recharges at 25% as well) pop my elite, lose all conditions gain boons and start bringing the hurt.

Seems right to me. I’m an engineer and I have a stun break that causes a self-stun. Only fitting that you steal an ability that you use to stealth and then reveals you.

I’ve gotten by in WvW running without a stun break and relying on auto-elix S to bail me out of bad spots. It’s not as bad I thought it would be, but you will die occasionally (1 in 30ish fights I’d say) solely because you don’t have one.

Started messing with turrets tonight and noticed a shift in the way I dealt with d/d Ele. I still can’t kill them reliably, but there was no way in hell they could kill me with my rocket and net turret up. It would just disrupt them too much and combined with my rifle I would drop them to about 1/4 or w/e and they’d bug out. They would then heal and try again but my turrets would hamper them again. A couple times I would pack up and try and finish them with my toolbelt/rifle skills, but that mobility is just too much to deal with. Still I don’t mind complaining I can’t kill them rather than I can’t escape them.

Melee isn’t that hard to deal with. #4 and #5 from bomb kit help keep me in melee long enough to at least drop all my other bombs a couple auto attacks and then switch to EG and use the #4 skill to drop back, #2 slows down any followers use #5 if necessary while auto attacking for a bit (I sometimes use EG #1 or switch to med kit for #5), switch to rifle auto attack back into melee use 3 and or 5 and then back into bombs.

It all flows so nicely together and all the other options I have (med kit, rocket boots, BoB) in there give me something to handle any situation and or manage other cooldowns. The key is to move in and out of melee range like a thief or ele. Hang around too long and you’ll occasionally get downed.

So would we be able to choose the kits? Do we have to have the kit equipped to have access to the toolbelt skill? what if I don’t want the toolbelt skill can I use a regular utility skill? Seems OP at that point if I could have bomb kit, elixir gun, tool kit, and FT plus for instance Elixir B, Elixir U, and Elixir S.

If you want the warriors skills go play a warrior… simple.

Maybe I missed it, but where does it say engi is a ranged class? Does it actually say that somewhere or do you just assume it is because it has pistols and a rifle? I’ve always played the engi as a class with ranged options, but never felt like I need to be at some sort of range to be effective.

As a guy running bombs and an EG the rifle works excellent with allowing me to best control the situation depending on whether I want to close distance, create it, or just cause the perception of chaos. The Warrior rifle does not offer near the amount of control, so no thank you…

The main argument ppl will reply with is that if it takes considerably more effort to achieve the same results as another class that it is not balanced. Now I think Anet agrees with this as believe it or not they’re taking steps to place engineer on the same “skill” level as other classes.

In order to do this though you have to tone down the potential of the class and bring up the base damage/effectiveness. The difference between a great thief and an average thief isn’t much potential wise as any average build will function fairly well. The difference between a great engi and an average one is quite significant, hence the disparity of posts saying its fine or broken. You can have two people playing nades or FT, build slightly differently, play slightly differently and come to the forums with polar opposite opinions (not just its “ok” or “not my style”) on the effectiveness.

Now Anet could bring up our base first and then tone down our potential, but then you’d have the entire rest of the game crying OP instead of only a part of the engi community crying broken. Easy to see which way any logical person would approach it.

The only thing that worries me is huge changes that completely change the class as I’ve been victim to it twice now in as many games and it completely ruins the class for that minority that find the class “fine” as is. So far Anet as shown no such course, but then again so did the other games…

Best advice I can give is to use the toolbelt heal often. I usually throw some bandages down beforehand use the buff and start fighting, switching back only the cleanse or drop bandages while I retreat. I don’t really like the med-kit either, so I only used it when the build I had would drop the toolbelt heal down to a 15ish second cooldown.

Wow I log in to find my precious rocket boots being called one of the worst skills in the game? What game are you people playing? How many escapes are there in this game that let you get out of situations while knocked down? If there’s more then people need to start using them, because It’s awesome!

In PvE you get jumped by those graveling scavengers in AC? No biggie. Hell miss-time Kohler in the same dungeon and you just boot out and keep going.
In PvP they’re invaluable.. Hundred blades from a warrior? Nah… Thief gonna open on you? Not today. Being able to negate every knockdown followed by massive damage move is useless though you’re right…
Majority of my playtime is in melee range (bomberman) so the toolbelt skill is always nice to use, though I concede its not optimal for the grenade throwing glass cannons some of you seem to think is the only viable option to play…

Point being that rocket boots is FAR from useless.

First off firing from the hip isn’t as ineffective as ppl make it out to be, it’s just harder to master. I’ve seen plenty of “old timers” at the skeet range who can drop clays all day firing from the hip with a gun clearly designed to fire from the shoulder. Once they overcame the harder difficulty of aiming in that manner what they lose in accuracy they easily make up for in speed of target aquistion. I see the engineer as more of that veteran of the discipline who moved to an unorthodox style over the norm for the challenge and benefits to be gained from mastering it.

Obviously at max range shoulder firing is the way to go, but what looks equally stupid to me is shoulder firing a weapon when the enemy is right in your face, funny how no one seems to mention that. And I don’t know about you guys but most of my fights are spent in medium to close range where hip firing “realistically” is superior if you were to actually seek mastering hip firing…

You guys seems to forget the most important fact, that you can use this while you’re knocked down. With this ability no class can knockdown/stun you and unload on you. It’s a must have for pvp and pve for me.

I’ve found the #2 ability to work fine. Even after using #3, as long as I dont run backwards while doing it. Try it out sometime, it’s still a bug, but a little adjustment and it’s much more reliable.

I run with the just the default gear you get when you first enter sPvP as the runes (superior engineer runes or something) stack toughness and condition dmg, not sure if the sigil even effects bombs because its on your weapon.

I haven’t really even looked at any sort of min/max perfection build as it’s alot of fun and effective as is.

I like to think there’s even more potential to unlock when I start paying attention to the stats, but I’m seriously having too much fun to care at the moment.

Good to see I’m not the only one who’s found this fun playstyle to be effective

Been rolling with this build for sPvP and it seems to do insanely well. I usually switch my last util spot around, but the rest stays the same.

Im in bomb kit 99% of the time and the survivability seems way too high for the damage I’m putting out as I can charge in 3 v 1 and not only last long enough for support to arrive but have 1 or 2 of them downed. Key is getting smoke bomb and confusion bomb up on as many people as possible and then dropping your reg bomb like crazy for dmg and self healing while running around like crazy man.

Just figured I’d throw the build out there as another option for people struggling to have success with the engi class.

I run a “Bomberman” build which generally wrecks shop in sPvP
30 in explosives, 30 in inventions, 10 in alchemy
Grab the larger radius, more bomb dmg and auto smoke bomb out of explosives
The invis, faster run speed and bomb heals out inventions
And auto elixer S out of alchemy

Stack toughness and you find you can get into melee, kill small groups of people, and get back out alive. remember to use your heal before 25% so you can use it again and just run circles around people (literally) dropping bombs like crazy. It looks and feels completely chaotic, but it has some punch to it and you’ll be surprised how survivable you are.
