Why do you bring an engineer?

TrickSmartly.7391

Love the class but for harder content which seems to be coming real soon, why would you want an engineer? From what I’ve read they have high ranged dps? How are they for support? Mostly for dungeons but pvp is nice to talk about too.

I need to point out that I’m the type of player who enjoys min maxing and will generally gravitate toward the highest dps builds or best support builds. Fun is great but I love performing well just as much.

Some questions. Are grenades the highest dps? Are there any good turret builds for dungeons? Is the wrench useful for anything? What is the best situation to use a flame thrower?

I love my engineer. After playing multiple classes and several to 80 this is my favorite. Been power leveling him to 20 today and I’m hoping to hit 80 before the update. Since I’m trying to level fast with only minimal crafting, should I stick with dual pistols and grenades or is there some other faster build?

The time to stop botters is before the game is released, not after. You don’t ban the botters you cut them off from the system entirely. You stop botting by designing an economy in game which does not allow them to trade easily. By establishing a gold based economy from the start is inviting the gold sellers and botters to join your game. The closer the game economy resembles wow than the more likely it will be abused by bot gold sellers.

As it stands there’s nothing to be done because it’s too late. So who will pay for the bots? The players will because anet screwed up from the start and will now punish it’s paying customers for what’s been done. The staff designing this game happen to be the same type of stupid people playing it. So nothing effective will be done.

But do you really want the bots gone? They’re here because they can make money from players buying the currency. Hey, at least they believe there’s enough players still playing this game to warrant botting it. That won’t be the case in the near future. So consider the botters as the proverbial canary in the mineshaft.

So ya wanna be an e-Sport?

This game rode into town on a gold lined hype wagon meticulously purchased by anet’s marketing team. Expectations were high and promises abound, and while player’s initial feelings of the game were enthusiastic, many of them switched their tune as the game began to lose its luster and the cracks began to show. The streamers fell back to their old games. The forum chatter faded and exuberance was replaced by disappointment as many mmo players realized that they were hoodwinked one more time.

The rules: No traits. No skills. Only white gear. No help from other players as much as possible. Most importantly no deaths.

The two professions I’ve considered to attempt leveling to 80 under ironman rules are warrior and necro. There may be others that would work but war/necro are the only two that interest me.

This is where you come in. I need your help deciding which weapons to use and your opinion on whether or not you think it will be possible. My experience with a necro is pretty limited but from what ive seen they are a very survivable class with ranged attacks and high base health.

Looking for some thoughts on weapons to use and the general strengths and weaknesses of the class.

Thanks in advance for your help.

But it has the look and sound of an mmo. All the swords and stat points. All the levels and classes. It is an mmo. It’s just a bad one that promised too much and only delivered on spvp and some of the leveling.

For me this is the biggest disappointment of 2012 only because I had such high hopes for the game. And I still hope. I hope it gets better but a lot of the problems that I can’t endure are not something broken or something that will be fixed. They’re design choices that I disagree with. While I had greater expectations for diablo 3 and a similar feeling of disappointment it’s now turning into a game I enjoy. I don’t see the same thing happening with this game.

I want to like this game. I want to play it but can’t find the motivation to log in for more than a minute. Playing dress up does not do it for me. Not as the core of the loot system anyway. WvW is a disaster for me and is something I hate. It could be good. It could be something I would enjoy but there are no signs they have plans on changing it. That’s demoralizing.

Zealots are always morons. It’s your lack of individualization that reeks on the brain since your strength lay in the collective as separately you are weak willed submissives. I only mention it because of the rampart religious-like fervor attributed to this game and this forum. It disgusts me and very little else does because it is a degradation, the true heresy, a blaspheme against the holy spirit, that of our cosmic evolution.

There are definitions to terms to better facilitate communication and these definitions are established colloquially as the language undergoes its own evolution. Thus from mouth to mouth the language doth grow and thus the seeds of thine own soul spill forth past thine tongue into eternity.

This game is a bologna sandwich. Prove me wrong!!!!

It’s dung. Endgame is not some whimsical abstraction that you make on your own. Endgame is not a make your own adventure novel nor is it a bologna sandwich.

This what endgame is to you, it is not what the definition of end game is. Endgame by definition does not require progression what so ever.

You appear to have taken what alot of MMOs do at endgame and confused that with the facts of what it actually is.

Endgame is what content is there that you can do aat or near max level that you cannot do otherwise.

No, it’s not. It is what endgame is. I just defined it, established parameters for it’s meaning to adhere to. Everything is either endgame or not endgame based on those parameters.

It’s dung. Endgame is not some whimsical abstraction that you make on your own. Endgame is not a make your own adventure novel nor is it a bologna sandwich.

Maybe no one defined it for you before so I will. Endgame is progression of your character at or near max level. It’s not subjective. It’s concrete. Anything not adhering to the parameters outlined is not endgame. Leveling is not endgame. Playing dress up is not endgame. Sitting on the bus is not endgame. And gw2 has a lack of endgame.

I hate commander and the design behind it.

in WvW

Posted by: TrickSmartly.7391

TrickSmartly.7391

Not everyone has this issue, some servers I guess have been lucky with commanders that communicate well in the map chat and have been very successful with it.

Personally I have encountered almost all commanders that are in a voice chat server but very few (maybe 1 or 2 of about 20) ignore map chat, virtually all of them will always state their current status and ask for updates on various areas in map chat

Honestly having a commander on the map makes things easier, at least people having an arrow to follow is better then having 50 people in map chat arguing with eachother and never getting anything done

TL;DR I can see how that would be annoying but also I guess you have had some bad luck with commanders then sorry

It’s only partially an issue that most wvw maps will ignore any question in map chat making coordination impossible. The other part is that even if they tell you they’re heading to a certain capture point the group may have already taken it or moved on to another point.

And commander offers an icon and new chat. A new chat? Is this 2005? Nearly everyone with commander will already be in a teamspeak server which makes any new chat useless.

I don’t know how wvw passed QA. It must be the same team who approved the Orr zones.

My main point that I should have included in my post was that more coordination of players will offer more pvp and less running. WvW is for large scale pvp and the UI should be updated to provide that experience. If you don’t like the zerg, defend a supply depot, kill a dolyak, or go to spvp. Commander should offer something totally unique for the investment and more mobility of players would provide that.

Again, how exactly it’s commanders’ fault?

If teammates were visible than commander would be useless. Commander is there to “gate” a standard feature which is present in every multiplayer game I play.

WvW reworked.

-All teammates now visible on the minimap.

-Commander reworked. Once per hour a player can teleport directly to the commander’s location. 4 sec cast time.

-all keeps offer a 4 minute swiftness buff to players upon

-health of all structures reduced by 5%

I hate commander and the design behind it.

TrickSmartly.7391

Commander, the most pretentious attention-seeking buff ever devised, adds nothing to the game and guarantees that wvw is less popular than it should be.

Let me be frank, commander is for the arrow over your head and nothing more but it shouldn’t exist. Right now wvw is not accessible to new players and casual players for one reason and that’s the commander icon. When players log on to the map they should be able to see all their allies. Leaving them in the dark adds nothing and the only explanation for it is the commander icon, a way to “gate” fun behind and costly and useless buff which should be standard.

New players will not have access to ventrilo or mumble servers and those two things make the map icons nearly useless. What they are left with is confusion over where their teammates are. People want to play in a group and in this game it’s more important than ever. While anet successfully removed a lot of the frustration of other mmos, apparently that was never meant to apply to wvw.

You cannot ask where to go in map chat at all because once you do the players have already moved on making map chat pointless. For the most part, no one uses it anyway and no one will answer your questions. You cannot rely on map chat for anything.

A simple question. Is it fun? Is it fun to stumble around hoping to find a group of teammates? Is it fun to be ignore on map chat? Is it fun to run around for ten or twenty minutes only to die to a group of enemy zerg?

Where are my teammates? What am I supposed to do? Where am I going?

I hate wvw but I shouldn’t. It should be fun, accessible, and easy to figure out what is going on and where. It’s not and it’s not fun because of it. It already gives an advantage to the more coordinated teams with team speak and destroys any chance of actual fun taking place for people queing in solo.

I want raids. Limit it to ten man if that’s what you want. I want gear progression. I want something for hardcore players who grew up with rpgs, like progression, and won’t play games without it.

I want pvp and pve totally separated. This was the main reason why I bought this game. I was told in multiple videos and previews for this game that pve balance would not effect pvp or vice versus. And yet here I am, a little over a month after launch, reading a mesmer nerf among other things. This nerf is for pvp is my guess because mesmer deal low damage in dungeons.

I want a better community. I want celebrity streamers, which the game HAD but LOST. Kungen and Kripp were the face of the community and both make fun of gw2 while playing wow. Others would have appeared and a community would have emerged. Instead we get this, casualfest 2012 with displaced sheep either skulking back to wow or pining over the next big mmo flop.

The truth about games is that marketing has become as important if not more than production.

You know how jumping puzzles have lame rewards? Gear just doesn’t cut it. Coins are boring. Well there’s a lack of emote (I AM NOT A ROBOT) and a plethora of jumping puzzles. Combine them. Offer emotes as the reward for jumping puzzle. Dance (and a few others) can be the starting emotes. The other, more sought after ones, are all earned through jumping puzzle.

Hardcore WvW maps sounds like a great idea. Once you die in that map you’re given a 30 minute delay until you can join that map again. No more wait to join since players will be dropping fast and booted from the map. You could be able to join one of the other maps though while waiting for the timer to run down. The penalty will still be there but won’t stop players from being able to join a new game because they died once.

TrickSmartly.7391

I was like many of the players who loved the game at first and then the more I played it the less I enjoyed it.

The high level zones are frustrating. Without mounts and with short lasting events and waypoints constantly contested, moving back and forth in the Orr zones is tiresome. It’s not fun at all.

WvW shares the same problem. Many other games solved the problem of attrition without forcing players into long runs when zoning in, changing objectives, or dying. And what does a player do after a zone crossing run? Usually they hit a gate for several minutes.

I tried to progress in WvW but it felt like I really hit a wall.

I heard the complaints from the start about a lack of mounts in the game and ignored them. There was a beautiful world to run across and lots of waypoints to jump around. That ended when the zones became ugly and the waypoints contested too much and cost too much to use casually. Add mounts.

It’s obvious when looking at the dungeons that they were made by developers not used to designing a dungeon for an mmo. There are plenty of reasons why but just imagine being in a dungeon with a monster who attacks very hard. This monster is an Asura and has a fast attack animation which you need to dodge or be killed. Now stack several charr and norn melee around him, add in some bright spell effects and you have why I don’t run dungeons cause that’s literally the situation you find.

Then there are the little things that never stop irritating me but I wanted to cover the big stuff.

I’m going to back to WoW. This game did not live up to the hype. There are many things great about it but those all end around level 50. I don’t think a patch will be enough but we’ll see.
