I crafted the Dreamer last week and while it does feel like a great accomplishment I was rather disappointed by the lack of visual effects.
I picked the bow because it was the only visible choice for an Asura. Most other weapons would have been indistinguishable due to their small size.
And while the rainbows are nice, the lack of coloured footsteps or any kind of particle effects surrounding the bow are really disappointing, especially considering how abundant they are on other Legendaries.
I do ask why was the Dreamer excluded from having these unique and identifiable weapon effects?
Who decided it was ok for most other weapons to have footsteps and particle effects but it wasn’t ok for the Dreamer?
Seems like an odd design decision…or maybe just oversight.
Wait, wait, wait…
There are tons of pictures and videos out there of people showing off their Dreamer. You mean to tell me…that you set out to craft a legendary, and didn’t even bother to take the time to see what it looked like? I call BS to that. You knew what you were getting before you started this undertaking.

I think it’s a great idea to have them in WvW. It gives WvWers a chance to participate in wintersday events without having to leave WvW. If you are having problems with people abandoning the fight to gather presents, the problem is not in the presents themselves, but the discipline of the people. If nobody pops the present, it will still be there after the fight.
I would prefer varying degrees of difficulty as well. It’s not like it’s going to hurt anyone to have it range from super easy to super hard. It’s a game.
The part I dislike the most about these “holiday jumping puzzles” is that they don’t encourage teamwork, and prevent you from using weapon abilities and skills. In open-world jumping puzzles you will see people portaling each other to various areas, speed buffing each other, rezzing the ones that fall and die, using abilities that have light effects for dark areas of the map so everyone can see…it’s a team event and it is a lot more fun. The more experienced players can carry some of the weight for the less experience ones, and eventually when everyone gets to the end there is a sense of accomplishment.
In the end nobody cares about the engineer who had to use jump shot on every ledge, or the ranger that had to cast call of the wild to make jumps everyone else could make without a buff, or the mesmer that stayed behind to portal the person every 90 seconds, or the engineer that went ahead and lit up the next jump with a flamethrower for the person behind them. All they cared about was getting everyone to the end. I don’t really see the point in having these instanced JP’s where you run with other people, and can’t help yourself or others with skills.
If you get enough damage on them (harpies) they will go down pretty fast. The key is to keep the group moving quickly together, so they are all doing damage at the same time. It’s no good if people are jumping along by themselves and you get one trying to skip past, and the rest are fighting, then one guy is downed in the back because he fell. Keep everyone together.
I play my mesmer a lot in fractals. Phantasmal Warden and Feedback will do the trick against harpies. For melee you might try a variation of retaliation boon with block activated, or something similar.
As a commander it is probably a better solution to rise above the occasion and handle it with grace and dignity. I know it’s a lot to ask for people in the leadership position in a game, but whether in reality or a game, you should not let it bother you. People are always going to be somewhat rebellious, and even act aberrant of their normal behavior, when faced with a person in a leadership role.
However, some people are not just trying to expose a hole your armor. Some people genuinely find it annoying to have blue diamonds moving about their screen when they’re trying to look at their map. Again, it’s all about handling the situation and not getting mad about it. You can either take the time to explain why it is on, thank them and turn it off, or simply ignore them. In any event, it exposes a commanders weakness of character if they have to complain about would-be followers, in an open forum.
Does anybody else think that the Windersday Asuran looks a little bit creepy? Looks an awful lot like Chucky to me. I hope Professor Yakkington isn’t packing a creepy little Asuran doll for us all this Wintersday…
It’s probably not getting any love because it takes a lot of careful consideration not to throw it in disarray. Don’t forget that WvW follows PvE rules and that any changes they make to skills have wider implications. As far as content goes, we are missing content that we originally started with…remember orbs? Hopefully they’re trying to fix what was broken before they add anything new. Additionally, Wintersday is around the corner. That holiday is coming regardless of whether the content is ready or not…I mean it’s not like they can just push it back to January. I’m sure that scheduling is a major factor in what updates we will see, and that after the holidays we might see a lot more core-fixes to the game. I can’t speak for the numbers of players involved in WvW, but I hardly believe they simply used player populations to demarcate resources.
But…what do we know. It’s armchair developing at best, and should not be left to base speculation.
I just got one for Legacy of Foefire…extremely annoying.
I use portals all the time to help people out who either have poor reflexes in combat or are unable to figure out jumping puzzles. All the 90 second cooldown accomplished, was to piss people off.
In wvw it doesn’t really change anything because it just means you need a few more mesmers. Most of the time I don’t use it back to back anyway.
When using it to help people out in PVE it just annoys the hell out of everyone who has to stand around for an additional 30 sec. All they accomplished was to slow down gameplay and annoy people.
God armor pieces cost 42k last time I checked. That will run you 252k a set. That’s not considering the karma you’ll need for obsidian shards, which are 2.1k each. However, I suppose it depends on your priorities and what your aesthetic preferences are, but about half a million points of karma is a good number to shoot for.
I would save your karma. You can buy decent low lvl gear off of the TP for a handfull of silver. You’ll thank me for it later when you’re 80 and have to farm less karma.
Does anything just…bother you in WvW? Every time I see that white line going around the entrance or exit to a building, the line is all wobbly. Especially on the lower left corner where it sticks way out and makes a knee shape. Am I the only one who gets annoyed by that line?
Yeah I did that event as well. The character I was using is an 80 ranger in full exotics with vit/tough build. I wasn’t getting one-shot or anything, but I did die a couple of times when two of them would hit me at the same time, or one would get me twice. It works better if you use group tactics and let one person with a speed boost run in and lure them away, then grab up the gears closest to the entrance. Take turns doing that and you can do it with two people. The gears had a decent respawn rate, so there is no need to put yourself in needless danger by running too far. I agree that the damage from them was excessive. What’s funny is the veteran that spawns afterwards doesn’t hit as hard.
Zap – Sword
Also got 2 rares and one other exotic, not including the ancient karka chest which gave a 20 slot exotic box and an exotic accessory. If people are telling you this event is not worth it, you need to ignore them and get in game now.
fml there’s a round 2?
People with girlfriends don’t want to play anymore ANet!
They look like facehuggers.
Just south of Pride Point there’s a rock formation near the tents with a ship on it. On top there’s a chest.
It’s resetting now. Shouln’t you be…working or something though?
You’re in luck, they changed the reset time just for you!
Just wait ‘till you’re standing in the center of SM Castle Lord’s room, hitting the Lord, stay in the circle the whole time it is being capped…then get nothing. Not even a bronze…you wasted 30 min? Try wasting an hour or more trying to break in, then beating on a legendary, and getting squat.
“I play a thief because I enjoy the challenge.”
I would like to see something in place that allows me to see my OWN statistics. Something that says the number of crits, average damage per second while in combat, number of deaths in a dungeon, successful dodges, total healing to self, total healing while reviving…etc.
It gives me a better perspective of how effective my different sets of equipment are, and which abilities work best for me. It’s very hard to judge this in dungeons and in wvwvw, because you rarely get time to pause and review the combat log (unless you just abandon your team or die and don’t get revived).
After the patch I started to gain influence again in wvw. I’m surprised nobody else noticed this happening!
Is there a cap on guild influence earned in a day for WvW, or was it changed somehow? I was running around with a guildmate capturing objectives and we never got any influence. It was this way for castle, keep, tower, camp, sentry, and yaks. 0 influence for all, even when we were awarded gold medals on all.
Haha this sounds hilarious. Kudos to Josh for being so candid in his responses to the varied opinions of his map.
Try closing your game out completely and restarting it. I had the same issue and it fixed it.
I agree that a “token for skin” system would be nice, but the MK dungeon allows us to get many of the same items you’d get from a Black Lion chest (even keys). I’m sure that those of us who don’t go out and buy tons of BL chests are appreciative of this fact.
It’s not a cool looking screenshot or anything, but I thought it was a pretty funny Easter egg.
Made In Tyria
There’s a bunch of recipes you can buy with karma, or get for free in trick or treat bags.
well, i dont have the costume and i use the green skelly and i gotten to 150 brawler. its just that u have no skill bra!
I play a male character, so unfortunately I would have no use for a “skill bra.”
I completely agree with this idea,
I thought it was a pretty clever idea for a dagger.
Who knows…maybe for Thanksgiving you guys will get a steam powered turkey carver :p
I love how people are slamming this guy for being confused and saying stuff like “man it’s so easy to figure this out,” yet map chat is constantly full of people asking questions trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I suppose it would be somewhat easier if the GW2 Wiki page was update to be more like GW1:
What, you guys aren’t happy with all of the barb drops?
I think there is more of an issue with the healing system in the game.
Consider this:
You are on a siege weapon defending a location and you start targeting a player. The player gets hit multiple times by your siege engine and loses health very quickly. During this time they may heal themself but they eventually go to a downed state. Everybody quickly notices that the person is downed, and all they have to do is hit “F” to revive them. While you quickly fire your siege weapon at them, you still can not out-damage the amount of health they are giving the person while they revive them.
Now during this whole ordeal of them being barraged by your siege weapon not a single person probably even noticed that they were dying. Even if they did, it is likely that their healing skill is too weak to matter, so they just let them sink into downed state. I know that it is quicker to heal a person if I just let them go into a downed state and revive. Also, I can trigger my downed state trait (i.e. Medic’s Feedback) which gives the added bonus of area protection.
I propose that we improve group heals. Additionally, create an F5 skill to revive, that includes a cool-down. That way people can not spam revives, and group healing would have greater impact.
I miss pet evolution, and animal size increasing.
For those who didn’t play GW1, depending on how you played, your pet would evolve into a playful or aggressive animal. They would also get much larger with age. Nothing annoys me more about pets in GW2, than being a lvl 80 ranger and bringing out a “juvenile black bear”…
Must have been a mesmer yak.
Does anyone have a screenshot of the final score from this match? There has to be a way for us to see scores online…
PS: Blackgate players that were in southern FA borderlands last night… You may want to remember you have 3 orbs before you trash talk in emotes… considering we killed groups of your people solo or duo(With my GF lol).
I’m glad to hear you regard her with such high standards…
I think the BG/DB/FA fight has been a very good matchup. Right now the score is:
BG – Total: 256,371 Potential: 85 Orbs: 0
DB – Total: 192,974 Potential: 365 Orbs: 2
FA – Total: 146,192 Potential: 245 Orbs: 1
I want to know why alcohol isn’t obtainable through the cooking profession.
It would be awesome if you guys could release an app that had the WvWvW statistics, similar to the way it is displayed in-game. It would also be awesome if you could display the same information on your website, so that we could check scores when we can’t log into the game. Additionally, I’m interested in seeing the scores of other servers/brackets as they duke it out with each other.
Why don’t we call it like it is? ANet makes a profit from selling gems, which they also allow to be purchased with gold. Anything that greatly increases the influx of gold into the economy, similarly reduces their chance for profit. It’s obvious where their priority was, when they not only made dungeons harder, but implemented diminishing returns on silver rewards. We saw no change in the turn-in items. Instead of dressing it up as “game balancing” why not just call it like it is? It’s shoring up a leak in potential profit.
One aspect of dungeon rewards that I miss, is the acquisition of rare dungeon items from their respective chests. For example we were rewarded with diamonds and onyx gemstones in GW1, which is somewhat similar to the reward system we currently have in GW2. We also had a chance to get unique items from these chests. One example, is getting Cyndr’s Aegis from the Heart of the Shiverpeaks Dungeon.
