Does xbox live gold count as a sub? and if so updates, qol, events, and LS should all be included. Pay for dlc’s seperate.
Xbox live does count as a subscription, but it’s a bit different because it’s a subscription to the whole service rather than one game.
The problem with your suggestion is that updates, quality of life changes and events are already free to everyone (even free players). And last time around the Living Story was free for everyone who logged in during the 2 week release period for each update.
Restricting all of that to only make it available to subscription players would be a truly terrible idea.
So basically port/cross-network/profit to consoles and keep it the way it’s

Put the xpac on hold, fix what needs fixed, and start the process to moving GW2 to consoles...profit

No need to sit at a desk to play this, I play from a sofa. All you need is a spare sofa and a coffee table. I place my keyboard on my knee and my mouse works perfectly fine next to me on the sofa.
As for taking this to the consoles. It would be nice but probably not worth it in the long run. Maybe when virtual reality gaming is a thing Anet could look at taking it there…..
I wonder what makes it worth it for the games that have been successful doing this? What is taken in consideration for a large decision like porting a pc game to console, especially for the mmo’s that didn’t even come close to GW2 brand, and financial success in the first few years.
It’s easy to say “if studios like Daybreak and Zenimax can put in the financial and technical resources to do it, and gain, why not Anet?” but I’m sure there’s more to it.
Well in the cases of Elder Scrolls and Final Fantasy both franchises came from console history. Well sure Elder Scrolls started on PC but they have def had exp in the console market. Final Fantasy, there is no argument there that Squaresoft are well and truly experienced at making games for consoles, they are true masters.
As far as Anet and the GW franchise goes I just don’t kid myself on that front. Let’s face it even GW2 was new ground for them. Being it’s their first true MMO and even then when you look at the map/world it is still sort of instanced, it is not truly “open”.
They are still behind the ball with having the game up to scratch at this point. Ever since launch they have been scrambling and making revisions to get it to where they would like it, always catching up. This is evident with the recent pulling of resources from legendaries to current game/live as well as the next expansion.
My reply simply comes down to the fact it seems their resources are stretched to the limit as it is right now. Sure there is def money to be made from the console market and new players could indeed be obtained. Just right now with how the game is and the state in which their resources are stretched, I just can’t see it being viable atm. Don’t get me wrong I am not against it as I am a console player myself and do have the Elder Scrolls games and FF14. I am just being a realist here.
Good insight, thanks.
As for the other posts on not using a keyboard…well I don’t miss it one bit. The mmo I’m playing now also has a limited action set similar to GW2 and combat moves well. As for chatting all I have to do is enter a zone/city/guild chat channel ingame on the headset for anything I need.
Thanks for the feedback, I’m sure this discussion is nothing new and exciting for Anet.

They looked at it, and decided before launch it was a no go. Any patch on a console has to be checked my Microsoft/Sony before it is shipped. Apparently they also charge for every patch on consoles(don’t know if this is true, it’s something I read on the forum).
This would also involve a lot of work to code the game to work on consoles. Money and time they don’t have given the current lack of content, this would be a really bad idea.
A lot has changed in technology, management, direction, growth (success), and vision for GW2 and the industry since 2012. X1 wasn’t even in the market yet.
and when you compare the pc success of GW2 in comparison to the other mmo’s that did move to console/cross network well it’s pretty safe to say (assume) if DC Universe and ESO can do it financially/technical, I believe it’s well within Anet possibility and gain.
There is a difference between being made to go on consoles, and being ported to consoles. Some are done well, other are horrible.
Yup, I agree.

But, you have to realize from a business point of view:
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
The PC version works just fine for now, no need for upgrades to a market that is getting more than enough business from other gaming labels.
(Move the love seat to the PC, it’s smaller- Lazy Boy is having a sale right now!)
From a business perspective more customers the better, always. I haven’t been on GW2 in some months, but when I left I wouldn’t exactly call it healthy either. Sure a bump from HoT, and recent news/marketing from Anet.
GW2 is still a 4yr old mmo in a bloated pc only market, an offset of console/cross network players for WvW and filling shards for meta’s is a win. Add that to the f2p option, “esport”, and a whole new demographic to purchase xpacs/cash shop support minimizes the investment needed to pursue this.

Hehehe- I just moved my PC and bigscreen to the coffee table- and kick back on my couch-no console required!
I thought about doing that but convenience and lack of clutter won out…plus I can see my dogs just wrecking my wires unless I go all wireless. My wife is a gamer so she’s very supportive of my gaming hobby…but I throw the flatscreen, tower, and accessories on the coffee table and I will get the “are you kitten serious” look real quick.
not to say I don’t envy your creativity
Seeing mmo’s like DCUO, NW, and FFXIV being played on consoles, recent cross-network play enthusiasm/opportunity, and my personal experience on the X1ESO, I hope Anet crunches some numbers to see if this is worthwhile for Guild Wars.
Just that.
Stopped playing GW2 sometime back for two reasons,
-lack of effort/resources into WvW
-I’m too kitten old to spend my leisure time at the computer desk…(my problem)
After years in school, and now working behind a computer making up around 60% of my work week I can’t bring myself to sit at my desk anymore than necessary..I can assume others (some/little) feel the same?
So I moved on to X1 ESO, and wow what a great experience that has been! Always populated in every zone and time of day. Now this is not to say ESO>GW2, as I find both to be equally great mmo’s…just different.
With xplatform (console=pc) communities, GW2 limited action bar, my couch…and a better future/opportunity for Anet, GW2, and players I can’t foresee this not being a win?
my 2cents, and no you can’t have my “stuff”, already gave it away.
Gave everything away already in a LA hide-and-seek lore trivia game
Make a pitch/promise to sell an expansion pack, back out of a selling point, and still produce Gem Store items…?
around 45 gem store updates since HoT release….
After playing since head start, I left the game about 2 weeks after HoT release and happily playing other games.
Same.
Finished Nevermore a couple weeks ago and don’t even login anymore for the daily rewards. Overall I have been a big fan of GW2 since BWE2, but it’s clear now this esport/spvp focus has taken this game in a direction I no longer want to be a part of.
“Many people left because of HoT” idk, I do know the last few weeks I was playing the 490 member guild I’ve been with only has an average of 30 players on at any given time.
Short answer is: probably not.
Last time they discussed the subject they went on about how WvW having good rewards would result in people buying less glider skins. Well, that’s not really what they said but it’s the truth.
They said something like they have to be careful for WvW not to be “too rewarding”, they “feel it’s in a good place” and will “just be making tiny changes to game mechanics like the siege disabler and golem event”.The way I interpreted this is: No hope left, better to leave the game. I mean at this point even ESO’s AvA is starting to look more interesting:
https://youtu.be/HdEcsz5V-hE
https://youtu.be/wm5xjSQM1rQ
Anet has chosen a side, and that side is “esports”.
I also will be moving back to ESO (loving my x1 and couch) as they have drastically improved the game since a very bumpy release. I’m not too sure if Anet is ready/wants to take on CF & CU on the pc front of RvR/WvW/AvA, however you want to call it.
I don’t hate HoT, but it’s extremely disappointing. If I would have known what I know now I probably wouldn’t have invested in it. I don’t expect Anet to design an expansion around my interests, it’s just a matter of different priorities.
Collections-Seems everything new is unlocked through this method of grind and repetition.
Spvp-This should have been clear to me long time ago, I get it now, have at it Anet. I don’t believe I will give another xpac or GW3 much of a glance w/Anet love affair with this game mode.
WvW-I give up. Just going to stop banging me head on this one…CF & CU I’m waiting for you.
HoT maps-Beautiful maps ruined by timers, repetition, and walls. Have not stepped into a map since my one story play through/map completion.
Ghalls-Poorly designed, no creativity. Pointless grind.
Holiday events-about as exciting as rain in Seattle.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
you missed the mark Anet!
Now THAT, I would have bought.
same, I swore off outfits unless they released this one.
Yes I want the old maps back.
A reskinning and I would be one happy player.
for example
Borderlands 1: Kryta-A lush and green area rich with fertile soil.
Borderlands 2: Ascalon-Scorched ground.
Borderlands 3: Maguuma Jungle-Dense jungle.
The map locations of objectives, forts, etc… all stays the same, but the theme of these borderlands are skinned over.
Possible updates in the future theme related: castles, forts, dolyaks, mobs, zone trash, npc’s, guards, bosses, etc…
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Slightly tweaked.
Gem store item
Account wide crafting token that unlocks all trained crafting disciplines across one account for one chosen character.
Quickening Screech would be nice if the bird didn’t sit there for five seconds flying around doing figure-8’s while you try and convince the *&^%$ing to attack when you need it to.
Give this guy/gal a cookie.
I get drilled as my bird performs the Ringling Bros.
Can’t people just have their little duels in a guild arena now? That would fix the problem with holding a ‘private event’ in a RvR map.
Imo that’s exactly what is wrong with the implementation of dueling in GW2 in the first place. Dueling at its core is players creating their own private events, anywhere, and at anytime of their choosing. Anet “missed the mark” trying to find some middle ground for sensitive players that didn’t want to glimpse the visual clutter of players enjoying something they don’t.
With the exception of major cities dueling should be added to all of Tyria/The Heart of Maguuma.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
So WvW, my favorite part of the game, won’t have an attempted fix until later this year (if that).
With that in mind, are there other games out there that have a good form of WvW? The only one with which I’m somewhat familiar is ESO.
Keep an eye on CU and hope for the best.
Emphasis on WvW & Airship battles.
Dueling everywhere except major city/hubs
More playable races, and race change
Wardrobe open for all professions (heavy/med/light for all professions)
A slider for other player particle effects
For the theme of the expansion: Sky zones above the Unending Ocean/Cantha?
Glider & Airship friendly
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Tyria_world_fan_map.jpg
Player/guild/party/squad driven and manned Airship battles for PvP (WvW) and PvE zones. A mix of Archeage, Zhaitan fight, Heart of Thorns intro sequence, and GW2 gliders.

In any RPG you look at you will find multiple layers of progression. Be it through character stats, gear, or other enhancements. All of these typically are broken up into short-term progression, and long-term progression tiers. What I mean by this is, you have a long term goal (reaching level 80), but every level along the way offers a short-term reward (bump to character stats, new skills, etc).
With Mastery, it’s an all or nothing reward system it feels like. I can spend weeks, or months in some cases, grinding for a single objective. I view these all as long-term goals.
It would help with the sense of ‘grind’ and be less daunting, if along the journey towards the long-term goal, there were more sprinkled gap-fill rewards for short-term.
Examples where this exists in the game beyond leveling… PvP reward tracks. To complete a full PvP reward track and achieve the end goal, it’s a long journey (long being relative here, but it’s not something you get for a handful of matches). Along the way though, there are several other rewards sprinkled throughout that make the grind a little less painful because you’re getting smaller incentives as you progress.
I don’t know what kind of things could be sprinkled along the journey for a Mastery track, but I do know it would be a nice middle-ground solution for those who feel Mastery grind burnout and those who enjoy the long-term goal aspect. Think of it as milestones.
Fun idea.
Armor/weapon skins, transmutation stones, emotes, finishers, zone materials/keys/currency would always be welcomed.
Itzel Poison Lore-Itzel Frog head helm
Bouncing Mushrooms- Mushroom Slippers
Nuhoch Wallows- Personal Nuhoch Wallows Transporter 3h cd
Exalted Markings- EM Finisher
Glider- Trophies to build a glider
etc…
And every single jumping puzzle in the game just became trivialized and you can bet countless players will find ways to skip most of the hard parts.
GJ.
Wrong.
IMO HoT stuff doesn’t belong in pre-HoT zones unless it’s also available in those zones, especially when as is clear in this thread it trivialises some pre-HoT content.
I really don’t get this argument at all…gliding in Tyria doesn’t trivialize anything. Nobody is forcing a player to use a glider in Tyria for any already available content. Players can make a choice, the glider option doesn’t choose for you.
Great news imo, looking forward to this Anet thanks.
I personally enjoyed many aspects of HoT such as specializations, and The Heart of Maguuma maps at the beginning, but…
concerns I have
Once I finished Nevermore (casually and recently) I find little reason ever heading back to these new zones. My interest in the grind and items sold by those zone vendors doesn’t interest me a bit. Ugly weapons/armor, grindy pricy pointless collections/toys (tonics, mini’s), and only one recipe that interested me has me taking a pass. Especially the fact I have done everything in these zones over and over and over etc…
This expansion really doesn’t favor the type of player I am, and why I have been playing GW2 since beta. I don’t enjoy instanced focused mmo’s (It’s the main reason I’m here instead of SWTOR, even though I favor the Star Wars ip), and that’s what HoT has focused on: FOTM, raids, Guild Halls (I still see no point to them), and esports/arena.
I enjoy GW2 for the casual open world, and WvW.
I hope this little insight helps Anet move forward with some great updates.

Hmmmmm. The question is, are you cheating on Guild Wars 2 when you play other games? I’m going to say it’s fine, as long as you don’t let Guild Wars 2 know about it. Divorces are so messy and paying alimony to a game you know longer play would be the pits. ^^
However, this game is time consuming. Maybe play on alternate days. Guild Wars 2 one day. Another game the next.
Keep the laptop you have now for everything outside of gaming, and build yourself a nice desktop/buy monitor with that 1500 =)
Never need to buy another computer for gaming again, just upgrade individual components as you see fit.
are chosen minis suppose to vanish and reset to off everytime I log out, waypoint, load in, etc…?
s
They become unchecked about 90% of the time when you are pressing the spacebar before or just after you move off the ground, about 50% of the time when you start gliding after falling a while. Since the most recent patch, I have yet to find a reliable way to cause them to become unchecked in core Tyria. Logging out, using waypoints, loading … none of that seems to matter; just gliding. As a (horrid) work-around, I now check minis at least when starting a character for the first time each day and ignore them the rest of the time; it’s just too annoying to check more often.
That makes sense now. My Guardian mini, who just sits in LA crafting for my main, always stayed. But my main always unchecked as I played out in the world.
I have enjoyed HoT, mostly. Some aspects that cause me concern would be…
Adventures-No fun for me, and pretty much forced into them for mastery points. As soon as I got my bronze & silver (a few I couldn’t even get close to silver) I won’t be back for them.
WvW-I’m baffled that this game mode takes a backseat to garbage like esports in a mmo? Happy to hear all the bad things coming out of spvp/leagues, I can only hope that continues.
Ley-line sparks & Auric Dust-How these items are not %100 drop for one per chest is beyond me. Once I have farmed these out It’s pretty safe to say I won’t be setting foot in these maps for a very long time.
They spent 200k on a tournament as the prize pool and one of the teams ragequit when the score was 72-0 because of #balance, xD such esports.
HoT money being put to good use right there.
Spread that money in Christmas bonuses to Anet employees/staff

I would like a race change option, even though I have no plans to change my Norn Druid. Customization options are great in a mmo.
Name, bag slots, maxed out crafting (many), Tyria completion, HoT map completion, Waypoints, etc…are all reasons I won’t redo my main.
please note that the 95% damage reduction on spirits just means attacks with cleave Still do the Maximum amount as the attack is Cleave damage and Aoe damage still damages its maximum amount if targeted .
so if the spirits are moving with you the ranger , the spirits will still take the maximum damage as they are targeted with a cleave or the Aoe being planted ontop of them (aka again targeted) the results are still the same , Cleaves and planted Aoes ontop of spirits or ranger they follow will still be in radius/cleave range dealt full damage .
so no to moving spirits , just increase the radius to gw1 standards these spirits were ment to be field altering effects not just a silly damage boost/ condi damage effect.
over all the way spirits function right now is perfect , the radius they have sucks.
I find the spirit utility to be closer in like with banners than turrets, spirit weapons, and Necro pets that attack from melee/range plus support/boon. Why Ranger Spirits don’t follow the pick-up and place, and indestructible mechanics of banners I don’t know.
I would still prefer follow+Indestructible though.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
The design of this utility goes against how HoT events work, meta or not. Please reconsider following spirits.
Working on my legend stuck behind the adventure wall for mastery points. I’’m not a fan at all, grabbing silver and never doing them again.
I do look forward to these fixes, but I will still use Electric Wyvern as one of my slotted pets to help crush a breakbar.
Norn Druid (Melandru servant)
I’ll see your Melandru and raise you a Grenth
Nice.
We need a Dwayna, Lyssa, & Balthazar Druid and we have a group screenshot.
PvE
Tiger for low cd fury, dps, & to name Hobbes.
Electric Wyvern-breakbar.
I don’t PvP, and holding off on WvW til I finish a legend. But like what others have mentioned Smokescale/X.

Norn Druid (Melandru servant)
WHAT?! THAT’S AMAZING! I MUST know what armor that is!!!
Thanks, and sorry for the delayed response…finals.
Helm & gloves=Gemstore
Boots=TA
Pants, shoulder, & chest=Leystone
1. No more development into spvp/esport. Spvp will join dungeons in a forgotten corner for the f2p crowd.
2. A small nerf to mastery/and new zones. Keep raids/fotm for the hardcore players.
3. Replace Gem store management/team. Armor sets>outfit&bundles
4. Start focusing on PvE, balance, and WvW. WvW being a game mode this genre desperately needs.
5. Hire more qualified employees.
6. Remove tedious walls. Event locked zones, time-gate crafting, mastery points+xp bar (I would prefer Mastery points to work like mini xp tomes).
7. After changes send a mass email offer/gift to all accounts. Lets bring those players back that left.
8. Open communication.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Nay.
I won’t even bother to get my daily’s done as I don’t want to contribute to the data for this game mode.
I find it odd SWTOR can push out armor sets for their cash shop…constantly…but not possible for Anet to do the same at a fair profitable price.
HoT in itself I don’t find insulting, but Anet actions (or lack of) post release are, and separately the gem store management/team should have been replaced long time ago, they’re very disconnected.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Reminds me of Conan the Barbarian and Heavy Metal mags I used to read. Unfortunately I’m holding out for a Melandru outfit (rather it be a armor set). If I would critique anything it would be the open face helm as we already have an option to hide helm in outfits and armor.
and why still always outfits? Yes easier to produce (I assume), but less transmutation stone sales for Anet.
I like surprises like this, and I hope Anet continues to update all legends overtime.
Kudzu looks great Anet, thank you.
So, what is a better buy base or ultimate? I do buy gems on a regularly basics when I have the money.
Because I think I be better off, buying just base edition and like some gems.
Think you answered it yourself HoT ultimate is only worth it if you want the finisher, glider, mini? All items I personally didn’t care for, and gems can be bought anytime.
