Honestly, it’s this type of thing that causes me to dislike F2P models. I would MUCH prefer a straight forward subscription based model where gimmicks like this aren’t necessary.
Not to mention F2P props up poor games that simply failed to grab a real market…in other words, it artificially makes bad games financially viable.
That’s just it, I would expect this kind of game-play with the gem-store items and the RNG drops from a F2P game but not GW2 which is B2P. When it starts being a P2W game that’s when I most likely will bid ANET adieu and say it’s been a fun 7+ years..
No real difference between b2p & f2p, the only difference is if the company believes they have the IP/marketing to charge an initial $60 or not.

and no, the RNG boxes system is working just fine as intended.
ncsoft realized that RNG boxes is the best monetization for gw2 PvE and thus ordered anet to focus on that.
if their RNG boxes gem store sales are bad, they would have stopped so after south sun crates.
they will not fix what is not broken in the first place.
and you have no idea how many people are buying the RNG boxes from the gem store.
Well put and to add, the f2p/b2p crowd that are anti sub models need to wake up. You guys have a few choices in this non sub fotm mmos – f2p+sub perks (ie: rift/swtor), Rental items, RNG, and P2win…..make your choice.
One player can spend $100 at a click of a button, this is equal to almost seven other players paying a sub for one month.
It may help a lil if you post your realm, I would suggest also checking out GW2Guru in locating a guild w/similar interests you have on your realm (or another realm if you don’t mind a transfer). Hope this helps, best of luck.
Welcome to the b2p/f2p MMO’s , your opinion does not matter when your fellow player is willing to spend $100+ on this rng content. When it comes to money Anet does not answer to the playerbase, they answer to NCsoft.
A sub model will always benefit the side of the community over f2p/b2p options, if a certain amount of players don’t like content, they show this concern by dropping their sub.
Out of the f2p/b2p mmo genre GW2 is the best out there imo, don’t expect them to change to much from the RNG/DR business model.

The complaints thus far are absolutely mind boggling.
1.) Moa racing shouldn’t be part of the meta achievement.
Congratulations, it’s not! You only have to do 10/14 achievements, of which you have AN ENTIRE MONTH to do.
2.) The holo dragons in the lower zones breed competition and contempt.
It was like this during Halloween, Christmas and SAB. Same plan. But considering all the impatient people want to finish this in a day, it’s become a major issue. Once again, YOU HAVE AN ENTIRE MONTH. Let the crowds thin out and you’ll see the nodes sitting around doing nothing, like they have in every other event beforehand.
3.) RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG
The biggest complaint I saw in Southsun was the fact that the crates off mobs didn’t drop enough. Now they drop off ANY WORLD MOB and now you have coffers being THROWN at you, in the hundreds and thousands, and you DON’T HAVE TO PAY A DIME. The RNG boxes have worked the same in EVERY OTHER HOLIDAY BEFOREHAND and if you’re a sucker enough to keep buying into them, then I have no hope for you as a human being. People are picking up hundreds IN A SINGLE DAY, and once again, THE EVENT LASTS FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH. The weapon skins DO NOT AFFECT YOU, in ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, so have some WILLPOWER and DON’T BUY THEM.
By god, ever since that “other MMO” started handing everything to everyone by just logging in, everyone thinks that’s how it should be now. Man, I can’t wait for real life to smack the lot of you across the face.
Real life does not smack you in the face w/rng, unless you pay for it. Constructive criticism is worth a ton coming from the community if GW2 wants longevity in this market. Big difference in earning what you have worked for, and RNG. Lets not confuse RNG aspects of this game and working for something. IMO rng and everything in GW2 is a handout, considering you can just buy it.
Kinda like the player I seen a few hours after patch w/candy wings & dragon greatsword….pay2win all the way..or disguised in this game p2Lookgood.
Outside of the rng, I refuse to spend or participate in, this was a good patch.
I think it’s pretty cool, anytime i spend ingame usually at a WvW JP dueling or ganking/pvp. I also understand why you don’t take it to the mists, it’s that mutual respect in combat + that feeling having your neck out there in a open unstructured environment (pvp server style), great feeling that brings the game alive a lil more.
Zerg’n&running half of a WvW w/o a mount very boring
I came to the same dilemma about a month plus ago, I just now run my ranger melee pvp build go to EB WvW JP and pvp few times a week, best part of the game.
Players go into WvW with the knowledge of knowing it is a kill or be killed atmosphere. If you are looking for any other form of “open world” experience you are just showing yourself to be a griever, trying to pray upon the unsuspecting masses that prefer a more relaxing enviroment.
Give WvW a chance, but don’t be too surprised if you are the one being grieved.

Wildstar online is making a big thing of its housing. It will be interesting to see what impact wildstar has on gw2.
..& not to mention WS also has server, Xserver (yes going to have both) lfg for PvE & PvP…in beta, oh and that one thing what’s it called…oh ya Endgame.
Well finished map completion and seen that my character select screen shows my award, I login and have my title for all characters “Been there, done that”. I received my two gifts of exploration. But my star does not show on all my characters?
Is this a known bug to be addressed a later time? Or is this working as intended?
I can understand having to go explore and quest on a new character to clear clouded undiscovered areas, but I figured your reward will follow your character to character since your gifts are account bound and so is your title.
I have two lvl 80’s, few low level alts, but I couldn’t imagine doing full map completion more then once, very tedious, repetitive, grindy. Pretty much the title you receive says it all?
I play my GC a little different, going w/idea screw the pet.
Markmanship- Beastmaster’s bond
Beastmaster-Zephyr’s speed
Juvenile Reef Drake/(900 range f2) Juvenile River Drake+Healing Spring Combo Finisher: Blast.
Basically try to time zephyrs speed pet swap w/healing spring & Tail swipe (Drake will tail swipe soon as it’s in range of target) combo finisher blast. Right after your pet procs Beastmaster’s bond I usually use that as a que to lay healing spring down & swap pet. It’s pretty fun, & melee will love you.
If a fight starts dmg heavy on group you can get a 2x healing spring blast finisher back to back by swapping initial pet right after it does tailswipe.
Just curious on why LB is not 1500yrd range with out traits? Where I’m coming from SB is faster & less range, but the concept of LB should be slower & farther range. If this is not the train of thought behind the design, then maybe LB attack should equal the speed of SB.
atm imo the LB #1 is pretty subpar, #2 standing alone is very subpar w/o #3+QZ&zephyr speed, #4 is fun but knock back should have the distance increased (600f is just not enough unless you use this solely to knock players off walls and cliffs), #5 we have a incoming nerf (unknown if the balance of LB will be adjusted for this yet) & is very subpar at a 1200 range base as you get locked down to execute this move.

Ya the skirmishing tree is top for a cond build, our traps when traited can melt away packs, the bleed on crit is just icing on the cake. The only problem w/this build is once mastered it’s very hard to go back to any other build (pve/dungeon farming).
I have ran this build for a long time now. It’s a trap/cond/tough build. I left utility3 & elite blank since I swap those out depending the fight or what Im doing. My armor gear pow/vit/cond all other gear is tough/prec/cond. On another note imo precision is a nice stat for a cond build paired w/Sharpened Edges. The 10 in nature can be swapped for markmanship if choose so, but a waste in beastmastery.
High mobility, cond dmg, & survival.
Pets I mostly use bear or spider depending on fight.
Weapons: SB & axe/torch combo yourself fire w/real nice AE bleed dmg to top.
My runes are Nightmarex5 + 1grenth (or any other that will replace the 1sec fear nightmare 6th set bonus when hit from nightmare to +28cond dmg 6set bonus 128cond dmg) and superior sigil of corruption on axe/SB +burn sigil on torch.
Same here, started couple days ago. Happened once in LA, and two times in FOTM on a loading screen after completing a boss. Really sucks screws the rest of group out of the rest of the run since my login brings me back to LA & as we already know can’t join the group.
Any chance our pets can use the F2 while on the move, 500y range and stopping? Makes the F2 pointless in pvp 90%time, great update look forward to changes.
