In comparison to other MMO’s that I have stood by, not at all. For me I need to have a sense of bond to the game, a difference I make. A community brought together by accomplishments within the game, not the game itself.
GW2 does not accomplish that, running solo or big guild. Dps, dodge, Fkey, zerg won’t hold me like others have.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
My experience with guilds has not been so good. At first I join sit back and not say much taking in how the guild is ran and the behavior of the community, and it has been far less than stellar so far. So I leave.
I obviously am not speaking for all large guilds, but the ones I have join..
%100 Rep Mandatory
If you’re not downing Tequatl on a weekly basis in a PvX/PvE large guild, there’s no point w/%100 rep.
If you allow your vocal minority to spew politics, religion, racism, or those idiots hating on America…you know the ones “merica”.
I will not bother be in association of garbage like that.
Family guilds w/their kids…teamspeak, vent, mumble, gchat etc…
Please advertise prior to recruitment, rather play/socialize w/adults, not a service babysitting your 10-15yr old.
Guild content
As long as we have communities like TTS that treat their players well and only require rep during Tequatl kills, player like me don’t have to bother w/big guilds.
Guild missions, tried them…pass.
Got my own guild running, great decision, consisting of…just me. Guild bank, Economy & Architecture 2. Saving for Economy 3.
So atm I wouldn’t worry to much about it op.
My opinion on Scarlet is, meh. Suppose that’s my biggest problem, I see her pop up throughout the story and the character just doesn’t resonate w/me. I may pay attention to a new scene, but wouldn’t care if I missed it.
First thing that comes to mind when Scarlet pops up is a Harley Quinn knock off from the Batman animated series.
Like the op my “main” mmo was WoW, vanilla to the end of wrath. The questing imo was just that, questing. What held & brought me to the lore and story was the raiding, such good times.
Rienhart.4137, the problem w/breaking away from the Living Story is the Gem store imo. The Gem store and two week intervals of content “Living story” are bound to each other. It would be a undertaking like any other mmo changing its financial model. This is not just Anet game and decisions, we have to remember NCsoft.
It may happen but no time soon, just take a look at the recent marketing.
“You deserve to live in a constantly evolving online world, which is why we add free new DLC every two weeks. You deserve to explore a massive, immersive world where there’s never a subscription fee.
You deserve Guild Wars 2.”
The Great MMO Migration
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
how do you do this?
It happen for me when I used the ability right after WP in for Wurm
All prior, current, and future armor and weapon skins from the Gem store added to the Achievement rewards panel prior to the release of ascended armor crafting.
and not hiking the price above 800gems like what was done for gathering tools when they should have been account bound from the start for the original asking price.
I’m surprised that players are still surprised at the fact Living story as a whole is tied in totality to the gem store profits, pushing out content of all kinds too fast.
I don’t see this changing anytime soon, and don’t even know if Anet is to blame or NCsoft.
Reskinned Cultural T3 wouldn’t have been a problem if they weren’t 100+ gold a set.
Gem store armor and weapons not added to Achievements rewards panel? and not boosting the price up like the gathering tools past 800gems when they should have been account bound in the first place at original price.
Still confused on Anet view on players buying these armors from the gem store, plus craft multiple sets of ascended armor to put them on? Or do they think w/the speed they pump armor skins out that we will buy transmute stones and splitters each new set?
Take in consideration threads like this are because players want the game to succeed.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
If you want it, work for it. Period. It’s called Legendary for a reason.
Legendary in the name alone, hardly holding true to the idea of a legendary when it can be bought with cash or ingame gold.
To op, myself I crafted Quip and sold it, worth every gold I got.
You must want it for the skin or because you like to use multiple specs on one toon to swap stats in and out, otherwise no real reason for it. I would ignore the gold farming as that can eat ya up working to 3k, work towards everything else for it & wait on Anet release of crafting precursor. Either by then you will be able to craft it or prices may drop in TP. Probably feel more “Legendary” if crafted anyhow.
You may even get a precursor you don’t want to sell by then, how I got mine, random 4 pistols from boss farming in the mf.
Got to remember though Anet makes money selling gold, like many things in GW2 “Legendary” is tied to the gemstore.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
1. The art style, graphics
2. Crafting, idk why I just do for some reason, works for me.
3. Character creation
4. Combat style, except for the lack of trinity.
5. Shared mob tag, gathering.
I would also like to opt out. I don’t want people to know my stats or know that I’m high level in fractals.
I’m curious, does anybody WANT the leaderboards or look forward to it? Why?
Im with you, and for your second part I have to ask also, why? I don’t understand the mentality to take the time and glance over some list of players I don’t know or care about? Why would I bother even looking up my own toons?
This is Anet game not mine, I just fail to see the purpose and use of resources for this.
Kinda had an idea the account wide was coming, not many players were going to waste climbing that ladder multiple times. Good call by anet.
I don’t get all the leaderboard junk in this game? Didn’t care about achievement leaderboard, definitely don’t care about fotm leaderboards. Do players actual care? Do you gaze admiringly at them? are we suppose to? Is this a xbox console thing?
The leaderboard is a red herring. They completely redesigned the difficulty, content, and process for doing Fractals of 30+ which is why they are dropping people back down to that level.
Never heard that expression before, made me look it up, good to learn something new.
Like this topic and leaderboards, why does content in this game always seem to pit community against each other. Like I have said before Anet really needs a fun guru, seems they lost their way on what keeps games interesting fun, and how to present that to the community.

I would like to join this thread w/support, I had a gem store related issue that was handled promptly and in favor of customer service.
Step 1: Stop trying to make GW2 some eSports, just get over it.
Step 2: Stop balancing everything around tPvP and ruining PvE and Wv3
Step 3: Profit!
I like it.
The biggest mistake in the MMO genre EVER is trying to make them into esports. Huge waste of money, time, development, and balancing. Esport games should be created and developed around the idea of esport, not mmorpg. But like many mmo’s as of late they want the cash grab of that esport community at launch.
I don’t know what’s worse every other new mmo shouting esport! Or the esport community falling for it every time.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Haven’t used it yet. Don’t want to make a mistake and have it stuck on a certain armor class. God, I wish this was in the AP reward panel thing…
As we all do. LSReward & gemstore armor/weapons would all be greatly appreciated added to AP reward panel.
Why do I see more and more ‘xpac’ threads popping up? Arenanet has no plans for it. They are currently entirely vested into the living story.
They have not hinted at any traditional expansion.
I believe because of this (and the few threads posted about the earnings) http://www.ncsoft.net/global/ir/earnings.aspx , and what is perceived as a general distaste for temp content (Living story) in a mmo.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Not to sure we can blame players leaving solely on another mmo hype. Anet had a vision for this game, some of the customers share it, and some of the customers don’t. Not to sure if a xpac is really what this game needs right now with the current direction of development.
i would love a staff . Total druidism ftw
Same, support nature playstyle staff. Please.
So I am pretty kitten ed right now, I was doing CoE with a group that i found on the LFG system and I got kicked out of the group right before I could get my reward for doing the path. I did not write down any of the names of the people with me in the group, find them in the chatlog or remeber them of the top of my head but I would be very happy if someone would take the time for me to look at the chatlogs to see who these people ware and teach them a little lesson for me (check around 23:25 gmt 17.11.2013).
I noticed 3 of them ware in the same guild so they might have been going to invite their friend in my spot, I have seen people complain about others doing that before but it has never happend to me and I have been pugging alot since day 1.
I would also like to make the suggestion that it would be nice to be able to see who you ware in a party with recently like you could in GW1.
Thanks
Doesn’t help you much now, but screen shot every dungeon party prior to start.
Box sales are going to take a huge hit in the coming months and possibly well into the first half of next year due to the release of Ps4 and Xbox 1. So don’t expect anything more than what we are currently getting here with Gw2.
Don’t forget NCsoft other game coming out spring 2014, I know many players (NA) that will be migrating there too. Good for NCsoft, not so good for GW2 holding onto some players. Time will tell, but competition is a good thing.
I wont be as the title “stop playing”, this is a b2p so I will at times log in the future, I just will stop supporting it financially (only support one mmo at a time). I will point out for gamers thinking of buying GW2 that it is well worth the shelf price for the content.
That being said, why will GW2 not be my “main”?
Trinity- I miss it, flat out. I have now had first hand experience on what happens to a MMO when it has no hard trinity, ZergZergZerg.
Granted I don’t miss from trinity based MMO’s “lfm healer/tank” etc..but that in no way trump all the good trinity brings to a mmo gameplay and community.
B2P/F2P- RNG boxes, Gemstore only items (soulbound makes it worse), new content benefiting gem store more so than gameplay. Sub for me now on.
Beta- This game seems it was released 1year early, past year has seemed like one big beta.
Optimization- Is just bad. Not only has it been bad, but once again feeling like a beta. To touch further on this, GW2 doesn’t seem like it can handle GW2! Why build something on a structure that can’t handle it (culling, cond, spell particle, skill lag, etc..)?
Fun factor- This point changes on the player, imo Anet lacks a fun department. Based on reasons given above. They seem to do well sterilizing content, “balance”, and community relations.
GW2 has made a great puddle hopper waiting for NCsoft other title that fits more of my style of MMO.
Cant wait for next subbed mmo.
In the same boat, GW2 is well worth the buy, very much so. But just a puddle hopper for NCsoft new mmo for me.
I can understand the temp content issue, but the zerg complaints confuse me?
What exactly do players expect when you remove hard trinity from game play? This is the result of not having a hard(classic) trinity in a MMO.
I think..
If you use a splitter you will get back the prototype fractal capacitor, and a rare statless Mad King back piece not a skin.
I was hoping to get my skin back from that Bat GS (forgot the name) from a splitter, instead I got a statless rare Bat GS that I would need to use w/a transmute stone again to apply it.
I have a son the same age, and agreeing w/Loki only you will know that answer. But if I could nudge you in a direction, since this was brought to a community forum, if you have to ask in safety of your child, you already have the answer you’re looking for.
My son is the same age, in our house, and typing this I want to emphasize this is what we believe is good for our family and in no way have an opinion of how others should raise their kids,
No games Mon-thurs (school nights for him)
No fps, or games w/emphasis killing realism (cod, battlefield, GTA you get the picture). For myself I only game when hes at school, or after he goes to bed. My gaming consist of one MMO at a time. This also frees up gaming on the WiiU together on the weekends….when I can drag him away from minecraft to game w/his old man.
GW2 doesn’t have much ‘violence’ in it either, it’s pretty unrealistic in that point of view (omg I’m shooting light bubbles). I would keep him clear of PvP though, that’s not the best place for a child, too many people enjoy ganking new players.
I agree GW2 is not a violent game imo, but that is not a factor in our house when it comes to MMO’s and our children, specifically GW2.
One thing to take in consideration, and I’m pretty sure this came to mind already for many of you, who is this really benefiting? The child, or the parent?
In some scenarios it’s not GW2 that draws the childs attention, but staring at the back of Mom & Dad head as GW2 holds their main attention.

Just as long shield 5 is not scrapped, move it to focus or keep the Area avoidance on shield. It’s going to be pretty fun when Edge of the Mists is live, and tossing players off cliffs never gets old.
W/the change coming to staff Symbol of Swiftness it would be pretty nice if Anet would make a change to staff #2 Orb of Light, it’s really bad. I would like to see some overhaul to #2 staff that includes a 1200 range dmg/cleanse low cd.

I have salvaged a ton of rares, never seen dark matter, never knew it dropped from rares? But like Zac I have received dark matter almost every time w/exotics.
I would think if it was such a huge issue Anet lawyers would be working ot, just google GW2 apparel, and that’s just one search. Making your own off the Lore, ss of your favorite character wallpaper art, GW2, server, etc kinda flattering for the company.
Ideally Anet releases apparel finally, overpriced, but the reason you pay $60 for a Tshirt is because you choose to support the company.

D.O.A. 0 subs on launch.
In seriousness the game wont die until well after all the ascended and legendaries are out OR another good game comes around.
Neither of which are happening soon.
“another good game comes around.”
Many many eager eyes are on NCsoft other title, sub, dueling, open world pvp, trinity, combat mounts (fly/ground), housing, and not gem store focused. Player loss and competition in the market is always good for MMO’s.
I just saw the new gauntlets and shoulderpads in the gemstore. If it was a full armor set I wouldn’t really object to it being there, but just for two pieces they should have made this obtainable in game through the living story. I think its pretty lazy of them just to incorporate these cool items into the game only to have them put in the gemstore. The essence of the item you are obtaining is only much more special if its obtained in a unique way, like through an achievement, or specific task in the living story. Anet has not done this much lately in my opinion. Its something they should look more into. I think if for once they made an armor set obtainable through the living world, but only through an arduous but exciting series of events, then that would be a nice addition.
This is how f2p/b2p business models are, the way you describe rewards is a sub model.
Anet could though add ALL armor/weapons through the gem store to the Achievement tab “Unlocked Rewards”, like radiant/hellfire.
For myself prices are not the issue, it’s their image that rubs me the wrong way through the gemstore. I perfectly understand the need for money rolling in for continued…“content”…they wish to produce.
For myself and plenty others it’s not the 10$ armor set (or not full set), gathering tools, and minis, etc it’s how they are implemented.
Armor/Weapons purchased through the Gem store should be added to the Achievement tab “Unlocked Rewards”.
Gathering tools should be account bound like the musical items.
MF minis should be attainable outside of combining minis from the gem store.
RNG chest, imo are a disgusting feature in f2p/b2p mmo’s fueled by customers while the company skirts around gambling and a demographic of “teen”.
These features could be adjusted to better the community and company relationship. Currently, for a lack of better word, just makes NCSOFTAnet look like jerks as they continue to distance themselves w/the customer.
Now to address the common misconception with minor truth sprinkled in, “these items are vanity and not needed to play the game”. Very true they’re not needed in GW2, but then again what is the endgame of GW2? Answer: Vanity items.
These simple adjustments could easily be accommodated, and the appreciation of the playerbase would go a long away, w/little to no financial impact to the company, possible gain (live testing needed). Like I have mentioned before this is not a small company, but a well oiled multi million dollar making machine.
Or they can keep it up, hard to tell if losing customers really matter when one customer can spend hundreds of dollars w/a few clicks. I tend to believe the player base that does not care about these issues are the same ones that have never/rarely spent a dime supporting this game after the initial buy cost.
This is an issue when a company really does not have the accountability to their customer that a sub game holds.

lol first thought:

Put a smile on my face, ty =)
I will add a question to this request,
What will Anet do once Ascended weapons become more mainstream, and once Ascended armor is released?
Do they think players will use a gem store skin on top of another skin just to lose it?
For exotics it’s easy and cheap (crafted, Dungeon, WvW, drops) to use gem store skins and to have multiple armor/weapon sets of the same stats even. But w/ascended it’s expensive (very for some) and time gated?
I don’t see myself reskin a full ascended set over and over, or have multiple sets of the same stats. Even if I craft a cond/powcrit/support sets that’s still just three skin sets?
Could someone w/some weight over in Kirkland please step up for the players supporting this game, throw us a bone!
Please take in consideration moving gem store armor/weapons to the Achievement tab “unlocked rewards”.
Please do some research to find out if applying this feature would benefit Anet better than the current setup.
Personally I would drop the $10 on every single set if this was the case.
edit: 3rd post down for question.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
All other issues aside with this game aside…does it just seem to be getting more and more screen cluttered? I know I’m getting old but after having recently been in some other mmo betas I came back to gw2 and was amazed at how messy it felt. I don’t feel like I can ever see whats going on in many circumstances due to the akward ui, spell graphics, bad camera, and just overall clutter. I see people on here talking about looking for cast animations and things like that but I don’t reasonably understand how you can see i minute gesture through all the rest of the mess. Then with the terrible optimization it just seems to make the issues all the worse. Can other people really see these things?
I would love for Anet to add a “Particle density” slider like I have seen in other MMO’s.
a simple question:
what do you want?
2 weeks events?
1 month events?for me, i want 1 month.
2 weeks is too short.for example, some people may go on a 2 weeks holiday and missed out an event.
so, you want 2 weeks or 1 month?
One month if my 2cents count.
Arena net should stop releasing free content so people can realise that complaining about free stuff is not nice.
That’s a misconception. We bought the game, and some of us continue to support the game through the gemstore. Your statement is the idea that the game we bought is it, that’s wrong. Anet is not giving us free content, Anet is trying to retain players through content just like any MMO, if they didn’t players would stop playing w/o updates and bug fixes.
So lets stop pretending this million dollar well oiled machine is producing updates for our benefit, and not for self preservation in this highly competitive market.
With that said, constructive criticism is a must for longevity. Thick skin is a must in this business, if not they can go make app games for mobile devices.
as all necromancer players know, their character of choice is about as mobile as a guardian in a clowncar. one way to fix this is to make Necrotic Traversal a standalone skill. this would not be in any way overpowered or imbalanced, and flesh worm would be a different skill altogether. i love that necro can teleport but the summon time is just obnoxious and gets me killed more than saves me, at least when the worm isn’t summoned. the other problem is that the worm is required to teleport and the summon is a deadly 1 and a half seconds. this can mean the difference between life and death in a sanctum of rall zerg. please anet, necro does not suffer from the split of those two skills. make worm just another minion and make necrotic traversal a normal teleport.
I was out gathering in Orr yesterday when one of the undead did a Green Cloud Mist Teleport thing to my Necro, I let him do it a few times thinking how cool it would be to have that. Beside the visuals it acted similar to the Guardians meditation Judge’s Intervention. This type of teleportation is a tool to get you right into the fight not away. I will try to grab a screenshot.

Yes they are viable. All professions, builds, & gear are viable outside of 40+ FOTM. If players grief on a profession for anything outside of fotm 40+ they should probably not pug.
Warriors are now the only viable class in the game. I used to love to play all different classes in this game but arena net has balanced this so poorly i could cry. My son and i play this game together in pvp and wvw and warriors are the only class that we or anyone else can play and beat any other class in this game with your eyes closed. Here is an example, Warriors get 400 health per tick with their healing signet and with a Thief you only get 300 health per tick while in stealth, warriors also have almost 10k health more than thieves. Warriors can hit with skill 4 on hammer up to 7k while a full berserker thief hits for only 6k to 9k [depending on the toughness of the character] in stealth on a backstab. I could go on forever about class verse class. Warriors also can do amazing condition damage depending on the build even better than most classes. One more thing Hammer Stun really?? they can use it like every 4 seconds depending on their build.
I think it’s time to change the name of this game to Guild Warriors 2
Please nerf the warriors now or I and my son are done playing a game with only 1 fun class because all the other classes are second
Instead of nerf Warriors, how about buff other professions?
Even a 25% passive speed increase across the board would not change the use of certain profession skills (weapon, utility, elite, & some traits) that grant a 33% sprint for X duration, so a difference in playstyle per profession and build will still vary.
With the small given information on new weapon sets and endgame unlockable skills Anet has in store for the future, how would they plan to balance for that content?
We already know new weapon types are coming for professions (ex. Engineer/hammer) I will assume that room within traits/utility to help balance these new weapons will be needed. What better way to make room by removing the passive 25% speed traits & utilities, replacing them to fit the new weapons.
So some would have their traits, runes and utilities freed up while other classes wouldn’t? What purpose would that served except to buff/nerf certain classes?
Well Anet I imagine will be changing/removing/adding to the trait system anyhow when they introduce the new weapons. Imo the two systems of traits that would be changed to make room would be reduce fall dmg, passive 25% speed, and traits least used (due to viability, buggy, or just not good) in builds.
What professions wouldn’t have traits, and signets freed up? Outside of reduced fall damage that is, just speed (not sprint).
edit: I can only think of my Guard, but they are in a pretty good balance place atm (minus a long range weapon…for now) So a 25% passive increased movement speed would be just a quality of life thing. Some changes to the Guard traits I assume would need to happen when they add a new weapon.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
when everyone has increase speed, no one has increase speed. might as well take all speed increase away.
But thats not true also, cause now everyone can have more speed but you have to pay for it.
By pay I didn’t mean gold but rather space/slot. If you have a signet it takes one utility slot and you could use it for something. When you sacrifice runes slot, you miss sometimes very nice mechanics for speed.
This is exactly why it’s true. that Payment is the reason not everyone chooses it. And even if everyone did max out their speed (which they don’t), not all classes are equal in max speed capability. So giving everyone the same base speed buff is tantamount to just eliminating speed buffs because it just resets the base speed for everybody with no diffrences in class. Which means there is no speed buff.
Even a 25% passive speed increase across the board would not change the use of certain profession skills (weapon, utility, elite, & some traits) that grant a 33% sprint for X duration, so a difference in playstyle per profession and build will still vary.

To all the people thinking movement speed is harmless:
“Please think of WvW/sPvP before you post suggestions related to combat.”
^ Remember that as a rule of thumb. And if you do not play WvW/sPvP, do not post combat related suggestions like these without beginning the thread with “I ONLY PLAY PVE”.
Thank you.
I should have made it more clear at the start of the post, even so I believe I made it fairly clear the topic was on WvW & PvE. Spvp/tpvp is not meant to be included in my post, imo it’s a mini game within the actual game, everything is different in spvp to WvW/PvE.
You guys (some) are really over dramatizing a passive 25% speed increase, and believe it or not my Necro is still melting faces using 25% speed runes freeing up a utility slot or traits to daggers, my Guardian atm can actually has a chance to chase and possibly kill that War or thief (tends to give up and run away).
I know a handful of players that left this game patches ago, one of the reasons just to slow, hell running from one end of a WvW map to another multiple times is enough to pull your hair out w/o some sort of flat 25% speed increase (utility, trait, rune).
It’s a quality life (play) issue, w/ NCsoft other game coming soon giving all professions shift=short dur sprint, ground/flying mounts, among other quality of gameplay I would like to retain some players here is all, healthy competition between to big titles is good for the players. When it comes down to it it’s about having fun, 25% across the board, reduced fall dmg traits given as a level reward, those are small things that can in the long run make this game better imo.
and to help clarify the post I quoted, 1st rule of thumb don’t compare WvW to spvp. Two different animals, and shouldn’t be in comparison w/each other at all. More you know right?
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Never going to happen and nor should it.
Why not? I mean, if you are going to comment against a suggestion, at least provide insight as to why.
NCsoft will have the best of both MMO models w/Gw2(b2p mt) and Wildstar (p2p) is out.
