No. This is a reward for defeating Tequatl. If you want to have a chance at the skin, you need to kill Teq daily.
This content was released in September, I have missed somewhere around 20-30 days of killing it total in the last seven months.
zero ascended box
zero Tequatl skin box
one mini I could have bought in the bltc for 20g
one rare aqua breather
You could get the drop your first try, three years later, or never….rng.
My opinion from my experience, 1.5hours sitting around for a 15min fight that should atleast have a token system so you have something to work for.
I would lean towards individual performance combat play, to deter zerg mentality & afk leaching participation.
I’m surprised no one mentioned the kodan…
None atm w/o race change added to the gem store, but if I had the room Kodan all the way.
This is a good idea, very similar to what Wildstar has implemented rewarding the player through combat skill.
I thought it was sad that the mesmer in the new group was a female. We already have Gwen, Jenna and Anise as iconic mesmers, we really didn’t need Kasmeer as one. It was a missed opportunity to portray a male mesmer for a change. The female mesmer is like ArenaNet’s own special trope. Male mesmers exist but they generally lean towards the drama club side of things.
I really like the suggestion of ravens. It really buys into the trickery aspect of the class.
I’d be up for seeing racially oriented effects for Mesmers. Humans with butterflies, Norn with Ravens, Charr with Cogs, Asura with Crystals, and Sylvari with Leaves. As far as Kasmeer being the third prominent female mesmer in the story, I think Anet is kind of hinting at something. Jennah is royalty, Anise is nobility, and from what I understand Kasmeer was also nobility. Seems likely that either female nobles often take the path of the Mesmer, perhaps as a status symbol amongst Krytan humans, or that many choose that path in honor of Jennah, who is, after all, a very beloved Queen.
Coming to a gem store near you, yup I would pay for that (Norn Mesmer).
Please don’t delete them!
You can hold on to your extra blade shards, as the team will be adding something later which will allow you to convert the shards to something of value. Dev will be announcing more on that later. Thanks!
Seriously? How about an earlier notice than this?? Abotu an hour ago I cleaned out out 15 stacks of shards and about 10 of the belongings as I had finished my Dynamic Back piece, and now you say they are worth something? Can I open a ticket to have them restored?
You have no one but to blame but yourself for tossing a currency/item that is still used in the current LS.
Because it’s too much to ask for some decent PR, patch notes, & notification?
If they add it, they need to add a feature so I can auto decline all duels. If I wanna duel I will join WvWvW or sPvP. Not in my open world please.
Open world is the best place for duels! Instead of a Decline option, how about a check box in options, same area as AE loot option etc.. this way no annoying windows for the players who don’t want to be bothered w/the request of a duel in the open world.
GW2 has too many great spots in the open world for fight clubs.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
For some reason I can see the champ trains becoming much more popular again tomorrow.
Yeah because god forbid some challenge in the game, people rather autoattack bosses for hours instead of having a small challenge.
What happened with gamers these days?
The thing is you can’t force players to do the right thing in a fight. We just made it to the holo room, just to have that fail because of four players…complete waste of time that could have been avoided if scaled to instanced guild raids.
Otherwise we will continue to see open world events like this to cause more frustration in the next year to come.
they should have removed loot from killing mobs and left only the Tier rewards
and myself among many other players would have never returned after knocking out achievements, more than likely you would never reach 1200 as often after the 1st week w/nobody doing escorts or clearing paths.
I wonder how long Anet can wait to release a new race w/o adding race change to the gem store?
Already past the one year mark, players are running out of professions to play, accounts maxed out on characters, and the average player is not going to run through the hassle of making multiple characters of the same profession.
Eager and too rash? I think it’s the right time more than anything, especially as we already know the area to the left of LA was a starter zone for the Tengu, and Tengu were a possible race back at release.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
@CaptainVanguard “Over the course of the story, I propose the idea of eventually “unlocking” new races/professions by having living world evolutions that lead towards these eventual new transformations.”
I think you and Anet are on the same page,
http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/07/16/guild-wars-2-developer-livestream-chat-discusses-the-fine-art-of/
and I really hope your right about the Tengu, once Scarlet unlocks whatever shes drilling in LA how long can the Tengu stay idle? Even w/those op archers.
It would be a nice perk to have chapter one end with the release of the Tengu race, especially since Anet mentioned a break between the end of chpt1 and this upcoming large content/balance update to follow.
is it a great idea or not
I very much enjoyed fishing in WoW, and would like to see this in GW2.
Fishing could supplement the lower tier materials of all crafting disciplines, with greater chances of better rewards higher level. Rare awards such as recipes, dyes, minis, food, fishing poles & lures. Possible very rare chance at level cap of precursor and ascended box.
It would be a nice perk as we wait on Wurm & Tequatl events instead of costume brawls/champ trains all the time.

I hope we get the staff this year, fits very well w/the Nature Warden archetype.
Norn Ranger medium armor,
I like the sets but the toe curl was not working for me.
Overall I like them, and the direction of full character modification through armor pieces. I can imagine steam punk gloves that grant the skin of a robotic arm, or nature themed limbs/offshoots, etc…very cool stuff.
Some constructive criticism.
1. The female chest armor needs fixed.
I’am basing this off Dulfy’s images, not what I have seen live yet.
2. PvE Locker =)

This is a LB WvW discussion, Point Blank Shot is fine.
Returning to GW2 after a long hiatus, my highest level toon was only 65. Since I patched up and started playing again I have been really enjoying this and can’t figure out why I stopped playing in the first place (maybe Diablo 3 came out, I don’t know).
I rerolled to start over and learn fresh. I like ranged classes, especially in a game as visually stunning as GW2, it is nice to see what is happening. I made a ranger and was quickly led to believe that rangers are hated and quite often kicked from groups at higher level. Even more so than the huntards of WoW. To counter that I made an engineer. Wow, so much fun with bombs, grenades, rifles and flame throwers, but I am now finding out the same thing, that they are ignored from fracs and groups. Do I HAVE to be a warrior or guardian to be an active part of a raiding group (or whatever it is called in GW).
TLDR version. Is it true that at level 80, groups consist of 4/5 warriors (and/or guardians) and rangers and engineers get kicked from groups.
Is this a game with only 2 viable professions if I want to experience everything?
Short answer yes, if you plan to pug FOTM 40+.
All other dungeons in the game really does not matter unless of course you plan to pug, and then you will come across frequently biased ignorant players due to the stigma of those mentioned professions. I prefer bringing the player not the profession.
FOTM is only worthy if you enjoy that kind of content for “end game”, after farming it on two characters lvl 44 pre patch I have no urge at all step back in. Personally my “end game” is WvW & boss raids (Tequatl/Wurm), for that content play the profession you want.
Have to remember also even in WoW the “Huntard” dominated the field at times throughout WoW lifetime. Remember how the Ret Pally was a joke, come Wrath and they were kings of the dps meters.
Like all MMO’s balance is ongoing, today’s flavor of the month could be tomorrows punchline.
Clearly a few baddies got tossed off some cliffs sparta like by some LB Ranger =) . By no means lets blame the hammer Guard, mes GS, etc..
and amusing how some players ( like above) are under the assumption we (Ranger) care if we’re in your groups….the reward/end result is the same.
Point Blank Shot is fine, l2p.
This, unbeaten in ignorance.
How often can you kick an enemy off a cliff? (Hint: 0 times in PvE) and how often does you just kick the enemy around unintentionally?
The knockback offer some advantages but also lots of disadvantages. I do like the root suggestion tho.
Hint: I was not talking about pve, I assumed everyone knew you can’t cliff in pve.
Hint: Don’t use LB in dungeons unless you want/or only prof there to stack vulnerability & swap to sword.

Definitely no expert on these builds, just what I have played w/& seen by other players. You can find variations of these builds in the Ranger forums w/youtube links in action, great solo/roam builds if you like non crit/pow builds.

Hello fellow rangers! We’ll I’m typing this post today to ask for some tips regarding pvp vs a warrior.
I’m running a full apothecary regen condi build. My traits atm are 30/0/30/10/0
Well yesterday I was doing my usual thing; roaming in wvw, when I came across a condi warrior. The warrior from what I can tell ran heal signet, and those 2 shouts that make them immune to things.
The fights were longish due to our healing but I did manage to get him very low in hp. The problem is, every time he got low he would run away using his elite to get far enough to switch to a gs and use vs to run further away.
We fought many times and each time he would run when he was low. He did eventually kill me due to some weird issue I had where I couldn’t move, dodge use skills, or anything (wasn’t stunned or dazed).
The problem I have is how to prevent him from running away so that I can finish the warrior off?
If any tips can be provided that would be cool so that I can prevent getting whispers by people like him claiming I’m a bad player.
Also I use sword/torch and axe/dagger
I would move out MM into BM or NM for the build/gear you’re using, cond duration is not worth the 30 in mm especially in pvp or against a War. They have movement traits like Mobile strikes, cleansing ire, shake it off, etc.. Hard to do much against a War built for escape.
Some pretty great BM builds out there that make use of the gear you’re rolling in, for example picking up Intimidation Training+malicious training+canines. Also can look towards Shout/regen builds too.
“If any tips can be provided that would be cool so that I can prevent getting whispers by people like him claiming I’m a bad player.”
don’t let that get to you, it’s coming from a Warrior after all. =)
1. Ranger
2. Ele
3. Eng
I think it works better than HS in any situation where the group has to be mobile, Wetpaw. That’s what my GF uses hers for, in any case. Ofc, no field.
I don’t care for the 1 sec+ cast time on Aqua surge triggered heal, so if in a mobile group everyone must stop within the Water Spirit 240yrd range and wait due to the spirit rooting itself/animation for Aqua surge, like you already mentioned does not have a water field to blast (by self/party for 10sec) or condition removal.
The passive effect I suppose if everyone is using a fast weapon attack, and hits a target every time with no immunities like aegis, block, Los, dodge, reflect, range, etc…it may work ok, too situational for me.
edit: I was wrong about the cast to trigger time only being around 1 second, it’s 3sec+.
Add the 20sec down time when the spirit is dead (granted that’s the same as Aqua surge cd minus the passive heal on hit), and cast time for summoning the spirit+3sec cast of Aqua Surge.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
I gave Water Spirit a try, really did. Even gave it a chance in a spirit build to see its full potential in PvE/WvW. I couldn’t find a reason to have it slotted over TU/HS in solo or group play.
I would like Anet to get rid of all passive speed increases through traits, signets, & runes .
Boost Ranger pets passive speed to 40% (“sic’ em”), they’re animals after all should be faster naturally.
Boost all professions passive run speed by 25% pve/wvw
my 2cents on the topic
I had the same problem this week, come to find out I had to re-enter the order of whispers hide out http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chantry_of_Secrets . It did show on my map when I entered the zone that I had it, but for some reason the re-entry triggered it.
I would start right away w/gathering ore, wood, herb & use the cheapest salvage kit you come across for loot you don’t use.
Perks at low lvl, XP from gathering and plenty from the discovery process. Some things to consider top tier armor/weapons are through crafting or very rare drops.
Crafting experience
Crafting in a non-maxed discipline earns crafting experience (CXP). In addition, characters earn normal experience at the same time. Leveling a crafting discipline to 500 is equivalent to gaining 10 levels, while leveling to 400 gains approximately 7 levels. Due to the accelerated experience gain below level 15, you may have better results if you start crafting at low levels.
To gain the first level of a discipline requires 500 CXP. Each subsequent level requires an additional 1% (rounded down):
I read somewhere celestial dye works very well w/the Hammer effects, something along the lines the liquid coating would take the colors of your current surroundings? Not sure if true, I don’t have the link but I’m sure google could bring it up
Thanks Wetpaw for the advice! As for gear is it the general consensus that rangers use zerker gear? I have read some places its good to have condition duration/damage.
Im sure if you stick w/the profession you will end up w/multiple sets cond, wvw, pve zerk, possible ptv set for bosses like Tequatl that are considered structures so can’t be critted.
Devs mentioned we have some cond changes coming this year, no clue how it will affect PvE. Cond setup I like to use in WvW solo roaming, Zerk mixup for pve (I don’t run fotm on my ranger so not pressed for max zerk).
For pve atm Zerk tends to be the way to go or mix match til you’re used to full zerk. But like I mentioned Dungeon story/exp are all pretty easy so play the way you like.
Use gear and weapon types that compliment your trait setup, some weapon types and skills will favor direct dmg (cond like Vulnerability, cripple tend to be paired w/direct dmg weapons like GS, LB, Sword), some will be cond based (poison/bleed, etc). For example LB would not be a favorable weapon for condition spec/gear.
as for cond duration, favorable in some professions, not a fan much for wvw/or pve to actually use traits specifically for duration or sigils/runes.
I understand that there are way better builds available using different weapon types. I just wanted to try something outside the norm. Since there has not even been one build recommendation that uses duel bows I guess that means I’m way outside the norm on this.
So I took it upon myself to just wing it and try to come up with something based on what I am going for. I want my pets to do some damage and have reasonable sustainability that way I can range all the time and I need to be strong with bows.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQJAVTnEVUFciFCWwaZgYpAQ9hpIRM69A9qv9p8rSI1L
I understand what you want, just the game may not want to give it to you. If your focus is around these weapon types and a must to the way you like to play,
swap Malicious Training for Steady focus
swap Eagle eye for Spotter (you will never need that xtra range in pve, and PvP outside of LB #5 your opponent will more then likely just not get hit…too slow).
swap Master’s Bond for Mighty swap
swap Rending attacks for Vigorous Training
Natures wrath & Natural healing tend to be for solo BM bunker builds, I would drop those & another 10 out of BM for Vigorous Spirits/spirits unbound+ Frost spirit.
But then again this is just my opinion on your setup, if you don’t plan to take part in high level FOTM just play the way you like, your play style will work itself out.
Hope it helps
Rangers do not own any magic powers. They are based on their strength, battle technique and knowledge about the nature. To manipulate the nature is the elementalists part. The only thing a ranger with a scepter and a focus would be able to do is to dance together with some grawls around a fire … :P
Actually the Ranger profession is made of multiple archetypes, one being the Warden and why we have Nature Magic section of our traits. Plus the many nature magic utility, heal, and elites we have.
“At one point in development, according to The Making of Guild Wars 2 book, the ranger profession of the original Guild Wars was split into many different professions, notably the Warden and the marksman. Eventually, with only marksman remaining, who only possessed only the aspect of ranged weaponry, was combined with already scrapped elements of warden and beastmaster, and renamed the result as ranger for the sake of the original series.”
“Rangers are flexible and durable—proficient with the bow, yet surgical with the sword. They rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature to slay their targets. Their loyal pets, which rangers tame and train, distract enemies while the rangers strike safely from a distance.”
“Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.”
After this year+ it seems pretty clear the Ranger “master of ranged” that many think is the Archetype of this profession is not necessary the direction Anet wants to go w/the Ranger.
We all know the Ranger is not the best at ranged, and we also know the limitations of our pets, leaves (tinfoil hats on please) the Warden!
Staff please.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Ranger pets also seem to get held up from attacking, just sits there, seems like the terrain wont let it move forward at all.
I will try to check out other areas today.
My action in WvW maps is to usually not be apart of some huge blob, experience in the eotm has been so much better for my play style it’s going to be a rare occurrence to find myself in actual WvW.
But hey one less body you got to worry about roaming instead of blob’n.
No one remembers this post:

You better believe I do! I called you out and you delivered! I just wanted to thank you all for all the hard work you put in to Edge of the Mists.
I hope in the same way you saw the above post among the many…before it slips into the abyss of continued complaints and criticisms.
You will see this post saying THANK YOU, ANET! with much gratitude and appreciation.
I agree a really great update, loving the new map.
I despise the idea of spvp/tpvp esport crap in a MMO, and I can only hope more mmo’s start realizing PvX pvp is the way to go. Some of the best pvp (imo) in mmo’s has always been this style of pvp, and some of the worse problems in MMO’s has always been because of the introduction of “esports” in mmo’s.
In other words, keep up the great work Anet, I really hope to see more pvp content like this expanded on.
Yes we could use more stealth, imo stealth fits the Ranger profession very well.
Guess the original poster has never heard of this utility skill “Well of Power” GG
1 sec stability, 50 sec cd……
WoW allows race changes? Since when, after they ripped off Dreamworks? Next WoW expansion, training dragons. :p
As for a reset of your Personal Story. Well you pick the order to join via the Personal Story which unlock Order exclusive armor which you could be wearing (or just the skin of it) when you choose to change race. So lets strip you of that while we are resetting your story, eating the cost and possibly transmutation stones you used in the process.
Then’s their your personal instance where you keep your unlocked/gem bought nodes and hopefully someday you residence. Got to move everything to your new race’s city. Should reset your cultural armor bought count since you aren’t that culture anymore. You don’t keep those armors or skins anymore either. There are probably a few more aspects that tie back into race in this game.
See, it’s a tad more complicated than you thought.
Order exclusive armor/weapons already can be worn by another character of a different order, w/transmutation stones. Cultural armor is race specific, possible to transmute it account bound and give to an alt of same race, never checked.
You can also harvest your nodes in any home instance of any race, you don’t need to be in party w/anyone either.
I can’t be the only Ranger Warden/Druid out there in Tyria? Hope to see more from the community.
I would love to wield “Raven Staff with animations” copy/paste youtube

Now I’m really upset I chose Sylvari over Norn lol…
Shapeshifting, animal spirits, epic beards sold me.
It woulda sold me too, but i just prefer sylvari animations, and I mean c’mon, dat dance.
I bet the TA chest looks better on sylvari too, I would need a gold chain and Moot to pull it off on my norn.
Name another MMO where you can alter profession or race once you leveled your character to max?
I’m not saying it’s technically not doable, just that it’s not favorable to the business model of MMOs.
Hey I’m %100 with you on not allowing profession change, and I don’t know of a mmo that allows that.
But cosmetic race change SWTOR and WoW are the first ones that come to mind.
Now I’m really upset I chose Sylvari over Norn lol…
Shapeshifting, animal spirits, epic beards sold me.
Why is it so difficult for players on the pro side of this argument realize that MMO devs do not want characters level to max and then switch class or race? They want you to level up a new character from scratch because that leads to buying more stuff plus keep as many of the various level zones having players in them.
Gender doesn’t affect skills in this game, race does. Gender doesn’t affect the personal story in this game, race does. From the POV of the devs, the choice of race shows the events of the world in a different perspective.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen “can I change the order I belong to” threads cause that’s the only thing else I can think of where a player makes and irrevocable choice. And that’s just so unfair that you have to live with that choice.
Who says the devs as a whole don’t want race change added? Things change in mmo’s. One glaring issue I noticed early in was how easy leveling was, three of my characters were leveled to max w/crafting after level 20. My other I leveled at release when zones were still packed.
Can’t force players to level if they have exhausted the limit of toons they want to play. If devs are so worried about filling low level zones they probably should not have handed out those +20 level scrolls out.
At a certain point in a mmo lifetime character slots on the playerbase will be full, the player base itself will have enough characters, or the game will cap itself on character per account (may already be not sure).
Either way it has worked for other successful mmo’s (maybe not first year), how do we know it’s not more of a gain financially for NCsoft to entertain the idea of someone paying for a race changes multiple times on one account for multiple characters for X amount of years?
As far as our race only abilities, not a big deal. If the devs at WoW can introduce this in a decade old game pretty sure Anet can handle it.
Story should play very little in the decision imo.
I’m happy with my choice of races, but I don’t see why this option should not be available for other players if it’s a financial gain to Anet.

Just waiting for that staff…. =)
Very nice! What are the pieces if you don’t mind sharing the info?
Thanks,
T3 shoulder/chest, I like the shoulder it looks like grass/moss on my back.
TA feet, pants, gloves
Gem store helm
It can happen, imo very well should. Story is only a very small portion of the game, makes lil to no impact, & for some no impact.
Some players like to say no in the forums just to be heard they said no…more options the better in a mmo. Asura are a tricky lil race, Im sure they could come up w/something.
We may have to wait for the game to mature more though before this option comes to the table.
Ice Drake-condition aside take a glance at the dmg of f2 compared to the other drakes.
It’s (F2) damage is the same as the Marsh, Salamander, and Reef (F2) abilities. However tool-tips couldn’t be more spotty in this game. All four of those Drakes’ (F2) abilities are meant to be read as total damage from all 5 attacks landing. Only the River Drake’s (F2) displays damage per attack. Also, the Salamander, Reef, and Ice Drake’s (F2) are frontal cones, not ideal in dungeons to cover multiple targets spread about, even in stacks where targets can completely avoid their breath attack by being inside, beside, or slightly behind the Drake. Marsh’s (F2) being the one exception that does similar damage as the others but can bounce for better coverage on top of poison damage as a bonus. Ice Drake is the worst Drake to bring in dungeons.
Thanks for all the info! Glad we agree it’s not just chill condition alone.
You don’t have to do every single LS, I skip SAB every time. Like above mentioned WvW has not seen much overall in comparison to PvE.
Been hinted
With all the complaints on the speed of Living story releases this may be Anet way of sticking to a schedule, but instead of only PvE content maybe now LS will jump from Spvp, WvW, PvE tying the three game modes together.
Some of my favorite content in games has been a mix pvp/pve, vanilla days of AV summoning Ice lord & Frost lord. Give it a chance, don’t like it just wait for a few weeks.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
I’m quite new to the ranger I have to say. I’m more talking about my expirience in general in GW2 combined with a 40 ranger ^^. Also PvE only what I say! However I have no bear, nor using the SB / LB much, wich seems to be a good sign.
Ty for the hints Wondrouswall, helps me a lot. How about the devourers? One does have a nice barrage wich should grant you much might? Also all attacks are 2 hits aren’t they?
Also:
- What does the Jaguar grant more than the Jungle Stalker?
- Why Ice Drake? Chill isn’t that great in PvE.
- What does a Lynx grant? It seems to be like any cat, just with lower stats – why??
- Fern hound heal is really low imo. Is it worth using? :/
Ice Drake-condition aside take a glance at the dmg of f2 compared to the other drakes.
