like I have mentioned, the question is no longer “can we have mounts” since they’re already in-game, the question really is how does Anet expand on that feature.

You seem to have jumped over the question “do we need or want Anet to expand on those features?” and the fact that general response for this is for now “no, we don’t”.

General response? The mount threads here manage to keep up even better then the Cantha thread. So the general response seems to be yes.
It’s just a group, mainly of WoW haters who somehow think adding mounts in GW2 would make the game more like WoW and so don’t want that. Usually coming up with a lot of bad excuses but if you keep asking in the end of the day it turns out that the only reason for not wanting mounts for at least 90% of the haters is “Because WoW”.

I believe this is also an issue, a direct association with a feature in another game. I definitely wouldn’t oppose traditional style mounts, but would hope if Anet did choose to expand their mount system (kites & carpet/broom etc.) it would be more in depth and a feature that could add to mini games like races, brawls, and any other creative thinking past just sitting on/in something cool that has one set speed.

The thing about mounts that puts the nail in the coffin on them for me is the fact that they make the world “smaller.” I LOVE GW2 because I feel like the world is immense (yes, despite waypoints). WoW’s mounts (even the ground mounts) cut the world’s size almost in half. I really don’t want that to happen with GW2.

(IF they implement mounts without increased movement speed attached to them, then I’d be fine with that).

It’s a good thing that mounts are not a forced feature that must be used, that would be a pretty bad implementation.

They’re not forced at all, but for WoW they became the staple of movement across the world. We already have waypoints for people who want to get somewhere fast.

I like where you’re going with this, more options to better fit players with different interests and playstyles, all for it the more the merrier.

The question is no longer “can we have mounts” since they’re already in-game, the question really is how do we expand on that idea.

Similar to the original gathering tools that eventually upgraded to account bound, visual upgrades, and material gains.

That actually is NOT where I was going with my post AT all.

My point is, they don’t need to expand mounts to a broader system. We have waypoints and swiftness to get around the world plenty fast. If they want to add cosmetic “exploration tonics” like the magic carpet and things like that, then that’s absolutely fine. But adding a speed boost to items that can be ridden 100% of the time is not a good idea for the growth, maintenance, and development of the world of Tyria.

Personally I love riding around on my Magic Carpet, but do not want any sort of speed boost added to it. Travel in this game is already easy, so expanding the “mount” system to increase travel abilities is a waste of valuable development time on something that will not improve the game.

And as for adding onto the system, it works very well as-is. So adding new exploration tonics like the magic carpet would be the only logical next (and hopefully final) step in broadening this system.

Speed boost items are already in-game, as someone put it before the “Trojan horse” to implementing “mounts”, granted they don’t give the visual appearance of mounted, but the result is the same.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unopened_Ventari_Follower_Kite
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unopened_Prosperity_Mine_Kite
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unopened_Crystal_Shard_Kite

Or the other forms of mounts in the game like WvW Golems, Asura racial, Broomstick, Carpet,etc..that do just the opposite giving you the visual mounted look w/o the speed boost.

I like the direction it’s heading.

I am of the opinion that we are starting to see mounts in GW2 already. Flying carpet, Kites, balloons, drill, Devourer Tonic

While certainly not traditional it’s something you hold, transform into, or sit on to move about the world. While I don’t feel they need a speed increase (after all I just love the look of mounts in general), the kites you can get in Dry top are amazing. 5% normal movements speed (hardly noticeable) and 33% while in sand storm.

I wouldn’t expect other mounts or these types of items to get the 33% in sand storm buff but a flat 5% seems perfectly fine to me. Most classes have either weapons or abilities that already make them move much faster than this.

Just my thoughts.

Don’t forget WvW Golems too.

Mounts don’t have to be like insert game here. I would be very content with a simple %5 speed boost, or maybe other abilities similar to how costume brawl items work; stability, protection, sprint, etc..

Time to refocus and clarify GW2's goals?

Ok, I’m back. About Harry Potter…

I think that the whole basis for the presentation in this and other threads about communication has a few pillars. And it’s one of them that I’m thinking about. J. K. Rawlings wrote a series of well-loved books, and I am sure (although I didn’t follow it) that people gave feedback to her on every release, heck, probably every nuance of every release, and that they also provided suggestions for future books. It’s a natural thing: People were highly invested in the series, loved it a bunch, and wanted to know more, or to have input.

In that small sense — and yes, that’s only part of the communication question — I don’t think I’d want our team to communicate about the game’s direction. Like, “Yes, so in the future, all frogs will become sentient, treble in size, and take over Lion’s Arch, leading to the elimination of all non-amphibian races. Yep, yep, that’s where we’re heading with the story.” NOTE: This is NOT where the story is going. This is only a wildly-improbable scenario offered for purposes of… umm… providing a wildly-improbable scenario.

My question: Do you agree that it’s good to not share that sort of information, information related to the actual direction of the game saga as a whole?

If so, then my sense is that you want to know more about the nuts and bolts.

  • “Are you looking at XXX new feature?”
  • “Do you intend to improve ABC functionality?”
  • “Is ### working as intended, or is it bugged, or will you incorporate player feedback to change it?”

Again, this is a small part of the discussion, but I wanted to make sure I was looking at that part accurately. I wondered if generally, no one is asking about the whole “Tell us where the story is going” bit.

I wouldn’t want to know where the story is going, or want to have any impact on that creative medium.

But feel free to share plans for future nuts & bolts all you want

Big fan of mounts, reduce the amount of WP add mounts. GW2 would have kept more players and brought new ones into the game if we had mounts.

Absolute rubbish.

Hardly, I will let the genre for the last 10years speak for itself.

Absolute and utter unwanted garbage. Stop trying to make this game into “that” game. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback! But if bashing players to get this topic closed is anyones intentions just give it a few days and another will pop up. I’m not sure what game you imply? WoW, Rift, SWTOR, WS, ESO, FF, AA, Everquest, Planetside, LOTRO, Neverwinter, StarWars Galaxy, etc..

@The Comfy Chair you are 100% right. But the fact that the BLTC gets bigger attention, and the recent NPE, etc shows the opposite. And that’s why we have so much doomsayers. Let’s say the revenue is correct or at leas approximate, to this day I’m trying to figure out what is driving these poor decisions and poor content we get most of the time. Like I said above f2p games with no box sales and no big publisher behind them recieve much more than we do. Why?

Management and vision.

Granted Anet could be working on an expansion for the last year, but since they’re pretty sensitive to releasing information who knows.

Stacking in Dungeons and how ANET can fix it

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

The issue is that a lot of players, including yourself, do not know the reasons why players stack.

Ok dude, let’s not make this an kitten battle, of who knows more about this game. I’ve played since release. I get the advantages of stacking, the AOE buffs, fast rezzing, etc..

Don’t try to derail the topic with personal attacks. The point is, it’s easy mode. It’s not fun anymore. You wanna stack for all the buffs and what not, Fine! But give more bosses something to counter it.

Stacking combo is one of the worst combat design decisions I have seen in a mmo, WvW would be so much better w/o it. I hope it’s not something we see in GW3.

I expect to see more Gem Store changes, specifically Gem Store Armors and Costumes, Weapon skins relatable to the “B-Iconics” of the Living Story, Permanent Harvesting tools of different variations, and other great items that make this game one of a kind.

Far fetched but I also hope to see some new skills available in the Gem Store. I’ve got my visa ready.

and this is why we lose players, whales with a credit card instead of an expansion pack that retains players, bring players back , and creates new players.

My wallet will continue to stay closed til I see an expansion, I highly suggest anyone that wants an expansion to do the same. Anet will create content that brings them money, if that content comes in a form of an expansion pack we will see more, and if it’s wasted in the cash shop…just look back over the last two plus years and expect more of that.

Dungeons should be removed, by far the most toxic part of the community.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Waiting-to-go-faster

Actually, PvP is the most toxic part of the community.

I wouldn’t have a problem at all getting rid of this marketing hype of esports and mmo’s.
Remove LS, spvp, dungeons, and let this game grow from there. All for it.

So you basically want GW2 to pander to casuals and no one else.

They’re so very easy to avoid, so why do you want to get rid of something you don’t have to take part in?

Dungeons
No new dungeons since release, one dungeon replaced by another. I wouldn’t describe GW2 instanced PvE hardcore or moving forward.

LS
Besides the personal story episodes of lore and story (that are great), wasted resources on divisive shallow content tied to the gemstore.

Spvp
Players want a esport don’t look towards a fantasy mmorpg balance, play an actual esport game.

It was said lightly in response to another poster. But this is not a hardcore/casual perspective on my end, opinion is all.

CDI's don't really make a difference

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It is really sad that the fairy tale/lie about the uselessness of CDIs always comes back. There are so many improvements that were inspired by different CDIs.

  • wardrobe
  • account-bound ascended weapons
  • commander tags
  • LW journal
  • grail quests for traits
  • guild-driven worldevents
  • new trick
  • WvW-like map
  • stepwise opened map

and much more…

All that stuff was mentioned/begged for/cried about for eons before CDI was even thought of.

and does Anet really need a CDI for that stuff anyhow? In my day it was called feedback, didn’t need a CDI if you just listen to your community and play the game, or any other mmo’s of our time. I still find it funny how the September feature pack update was spread out over two months of marketing hype. In other games it would have been called….patch notes, and posted in the forums.

Good way to pacify the community while taking attention away from the obvious minimal content and features released with gem store profits in mind while the rest of the game modes not tied to the gemstore get ignored.

It’s not f2p, and we’re talking about Anet/NCsoft here, they have plenty of resources. If we’re to use f2p/b2p games as some example as low expectations in the delivery of content why don’t we take a look at what these mentioned games have released in the last 3years of content through expansions compared to GW2.

No new WvW & spvp updates or maps, professions, races, utilities, elites, class weapons, mounts, dueling, dungeons, raids, or GvG.
New armor set and back.

The episodes alone were great minus the zones that follow.

To buy that is around 115g or $20, I wouldn’t pay for those unlocks for that price.

The story is great, and the personal story that LS runs you through is done really well, but what I don’t get is why use all those resources on everything else? I would be easily content (would others?) with just that instead of adding these zerg train zones, if anything for me it brings down the quality of the game by adding these mini zones after such a great start in the story part.

After giving up on the LS after s1 I have recently started to give s2 a try, and I have noticed I find it very enjoyable, but as soon as a chapter ends and I’m presented w/its particular zone the enjoyment drops right off a cliff as I skip to the next chapter in the season.

All that quality LS story content drops to a zone of same ol same ol. First thing that hits me is that could have been a WvW update, spvp modes, old zone updates, class, race, weapon skills, new utility, etc…

I believe the quality of the LS (green star story)alone is worth the buy in a gem store w/o all the stuff that comes after.

Open World PvP is here!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wetpaw.3487

Wetpaw.3487

There are opportunity costs to most choices in game design. I believe:

  1. The opportunity cost for dueling would be fairly low. The possible negatives of dueling could be offset by offering an opt-in that players would check in options to enable dueling. You don’t want to duel, don’t check that box.
  2. The opportunity cost to implement open world PvP would be high. A lot of developer resources would be required to make open world PvP make sense — and I believe ANet would be unwilling to just slap it in in a haphazard fashion. It would also require its own server or a separate mega-server cluster so those who want to use it could and those who want to avoid it could.

That’s why I am in favor of dueling being implemented, but not open PvP, and why I believe ANet will implement 1 at some point, but not 2.

Open world pvp would also pull too many players from WvW & Spvp, I don’t see it ever happening. Maybe a small gurubashi style arena placed out in the world, but a full pvp server or open world pvp one can only hope GW3.

I imagine they could come up with some pretty interesting duel request gem store items, basically a finisher used to request a duel, or an item that goes off when winning one.

Are they just the same old events on a timer and player involvement really doesn’t matter, or are they a back and forth struggle between opposing forces where player and NPC action affect the sate of the world? Are they on a predictable looping pattern or are there multiple avenues to change the fate of the zone?

From all the posts in favor I thought I would give this LS thing a try again~
The personal story was good; the library, story, and personal instance (crystal cave sand thing) was fun and ate up less than one hour. From what I have read it’s nostalgic heavy for GW1 players.

The zone is a waste of resources better spent elsewhere in my opinion, just another soon to be karka zone w/WvW elements minus the PvP. It wouldn’t surprise me if Karka sees more action just because of Queen Karka than this new zone in a few months or weeks. Going to take a pass on the zone farming & achievements.

Dueling has nothing to do with 1v1 balance imo. I have yet to play any mmo with 1v1 balanced out, hell I have never played a balanced mmo.

The term balance is used in description of an ongoing process through a mmo lifecycle.
mmorpg’s have too many variables to even be considered balanced w/different setups in gear, lvl, trait/skill setup, weapon types, professions, utility, runes, sigils, etc..

It’s for fun and player created events.

Just when you think Anet is heading in the right direction it becomes nothing more than a bug. If anything good comes from this is now we know it’s possible for PvP in the PvE world, the work is already done through this “bug” (bug…sure), time to add the dueling/GvG feature!

It worked on the surface, but who knows what bugs may have lurked underneath of it. Corruption of a character’s PvP data would be an obvious risk. It may not be as much of a step towards duels and such as you think.

Your comment did get me to thinking, though. Some people don’t want open world duels/PvP. Others do. And some people are looking for some kind of PvP to do with Guild Halls if we get them. Maybe Guild Halls could be made to allow dueling inside of them?

Good contribution, here is the problem from the perspective of a player who would enjoy dueling-dueling should be in the hands of the community to allow player made events, and assigning this feature to an area or instance takes away from the feature itself.

Betting, locations (castles, mountain tops, bridges, Ghalls, etc..), death matches, or exhibitions are all very big parts for the pro dueling player outside of just smashing on each other.

Add dueling with the feature in options pre checked for No duel requests at release there would be zero impact on the anti dueling crowd.

Well it would be nice if they worked as hard into their game modes.

- 1/3 of Siverwaste would be perfect as a GvG map.
- Most of the map could work as a small scale WvW map.
- The LS ice/crystal palace could work as a multiplayer dungeon instead of being basically single-player content inside a MMO.This play it coulb be worth playing more than once.
- Little PvP area in Silverwaste shows that Open world duels are possible, even open world large scale PvP/WvW if they wanted.

Again, amazing artistic work from Anet, that is undeniable, but considering the potential of the artistic work there is clearly a lack of vision when its only meant to be played once and farmed.

Unfortunately that PvP area was just a “bug” & removed, I hope not another Karka island tied to nostalgic art. On a positive note the possibilities behind this bug are really exciting Anet, I will definitely keep my eyes peeled on any endeavors to expand this bug.

Or any other input that may have will be gladly appreciated.

PS – Is there a guild i can join as well or i should venture on my own first?

Race doesn’t matter

I have seen every class perform well with a skilled/experienced player behind it

If you haven’t already make one of each class, get them to lvl 2 or 3 (I forget), and you will receive a Heart of Mists unlock notification. Teleport there and your character will be boosted to 80 and you can check everything out before investing in that profession.
Heart of the Mists has free weapons vendor to check out each kind, target dummy,etc..
Repeat with every profession.

I really dislike the idea of multiple WP in a zone, I say get rid of most of them and add mounts to help with immersion and bringing older zones to life.

It’s ok kill all you want. Players opt in for this boon, a choice agreed in the purchase from what I have read. I have yet been able to check this feature out, but look forward to it.

I just hope that the player with the boon can attack back once the fight is initiated.

Open World PvP is here!

Fear detected!

Annoyance, love. I like playing PvE without being bothered by other people or their requests to duel if it’s optional. Keep PvE and PvP separate, thank you very much.

There’s too many advantages to dueling, that duel requests is a tiny issue in comparison. Besides, Anet can always add a “block all requests” options. ;D Besides, it’s more immersive if there’s pvp in pve, as long as it’s not annoying, than a complete, 100% division.

I don’t see any advantage at all to dueling. None. I can’t even imagine any reason that would make having a dueling option be an “advantage” for anything.

Personally I don’t care as long as there is a “block requests” option.

Thank you for being that type of player. Just because you don’t want to take part in it, agree with it, or find reason for it you’re are willing to compromise because you know it has no affect on you, & others will enjoy it.

Suggestion: open world pvp (PVE)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Until now I thought open world PvP was not possible, technically not built that way, according to this new LS that’s wrong and is possible.

Well based off what I’m reading from other players, it isn’t like you can fight back.
Then again who knows if that’s a bug.
I’ll wait for the dust to settle before I continue anymore on this subject.

I hope that’s a bug, one way ganking is not pvp, players need to be able to defend themselves.

Cool! But me and my guild mates were happy for about a moment, when we saw the PK. Hope Anet come with open pvp in the future in some maps.

I got pretty excited with this title too, maybe someday we will have dueling or open pvp zone in the PvE world.

and here I thought PvP was not possible in the pve world from a technical position…wrong.

Idea to increase sales & player base of GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wetpaw.3487

Drop Living Story
Keep Holiday updates
Start releasing Campaigns (xpacs)
Focus more on WvW/Spvp (huge selling point for many players)
Release new Race/Classes/abilities/weapons
Add mounts (already came this far broom/carpet)
Market the new vision

Create a sub option $10/month that grants XP, Karma, MF, Coin noticeable increases, Bonus gains for pre lvl 50 alts, 200 gems/month, 10% gem store discount, add monthly veteran perks

Something like that, and watch players flood in.

I like it, and clipping wouldn’t bother me. My Ranger already has hooves for feet, may as well go all the way.

One would of course question why people that quite clearly don’t like the game still hang around on these forums everyday instead of just moving on.

Refer to my perks list, and not everyone has a quitter mentality.

Criticism doesn’t mean said player should quit or doesn’t have reasons to play,& change happens all the time.

Wetpaw.3487

Perks
Has a great pick up and play vision
Fantastic foundation
Great art style-beautiful world, characters, and art (cutscenes, wallpapers, etc)
Fun combat
WvW game mode holds plenty of players to the game, til CU is released maybe (nostalgia heavy).
Fun class abilities (limited though)
Megaserver
Lore IP (not LS)
Character customization
Affordable
Good CC’s and forum coordinators
Generally a helpful and friendly playerbase
Customer service (my experience)

Cons
Quick returns over longevity & community-Cash shop development focused
Direction & focus for revenue choice (we have whales!)
Pointless stats, for example Healing. I would love to see an emphasis on this, and the impact it would have on PvP/WvW w/o having a hard trinity
Guild missions
Living Story
No expansions
Leveling now
NCsoft (publisher w/too many mmo’s spread thin)
No mounts

New to the game, server selection

You represent your server in WvW that’s about it. So if you want a busy WvW pick a server based on its winning tier. Otherwise PvE it doesn’t matter, PvE is the “megaserver” where server names don’t matter and everyone plays together.
