I love how housing was done in Archeage, but unfortunately the way the game is setup mega server or not this can never happen in GW2.
Instanced housing for me serves no purpose for the way I enjoy to play.
Sure as hell not against it for the players that would enjoy it though, best of luck.
I treated this game like a sub model (used to that mmo model anyhow) 10-20$/month in support of Anet, gave that up due to the direction and content about 9months ago.
I did drop $20 in response to the Feature Pack, back to f2p mode til they figure out a direction that I consider worthy of support.
By treating this B2P game as a sub-based game you did push them in that direction.
You want some higher quality content then spend some extra bucks on the expansions. Not on a cash-shop.
This is a b2p game, I understand this game has to have some revenue w/o a sub model to be successful in the age of gaming where players think content, development, and wages come for free, and yes this may be new news for you but expansions have and tend to be the norm in mmo’s even b2p/f2p models.
I think after the first year Anet gave me a good indication that they were not going the route of GW1, or other mmo’s w/xpacs & solid content so withholding the financial support of this game was a personal decision I came to.
But implying supporting this game in the way I did ($10-20/m) was the reason we see no expansions, faster and earlier QoL updates, and content is just ignorant.
The direction of GW2 falls on Anet and Ncsoft. If they choose to continue down this path and has a community that enjoys this path and support it, all that means is the game is not for me.

I see two statements coming back in these sort of threads.
1. I spend X but won’t spend any-more for now because they don’t add any interesting / I don’t like where the game went.
Well why the heck would they invest time and money in making real content if they can simply make the game a grind or add some fluff to the cash-shop and people are dropping tons of money in there direction for the fluff or to get out of the grind?
2. It’s just a game for me so I don’t mind spending money on it. I just want to have fun, don’t want to grind for everything I want.
So the game is a grind and you can buy yourself out of that grind making it more fun.
If only people would refuse to spend money on cash-shops and DLC and other nonsense (yeah fun nonsense but it being a game fun nonsense should be in the game) and in stead pay it for real content (the game itself, good expansions) then quality of games (including GW2) would be much better.
Of course it’s up to everybody how he spends he or her money. However people should be aware how it effects a game and that throwing money at a company does not mean you are supporting the game.. you are supporting the company and support them to make cash-shop stuff even more interesting in many times by making the game without cash-shop products less interesting.
Welcome to the f2p/b2p mmo model, you nailed it in your post.
If a mmorpg is worthy of a sub model every player has a voice when they dislike the direction by withholding their sub.
In the f2p/b2p mmo model five players can spend nothing while one drops $100 plus in one click. I don’t see any reason for them to change their direction sadly.
PvE it doesn’t matter, plan to WvW check link below.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Spring_Tournament_2014would there be any disadvantage if I chose to go to the servers I mentioned
Nope, tourney ranks subject to change anytime.

the poll will never win other then “all around the PvE world” because most PvE-ers don’t look at the forums nor do they want to mingle in the discussion at all.
anyway, let’s recap:
-pro-duelers wants this in the PvE world, anti-duelers don’t want anything to do with duels.
-flagging the duelers works but only partly.
-different shards for different sides keeps them separated, giving both sides there way.
-duel challenges can be really annoying when working things out UI related so something need to prevent frustrations like that. (i would say make it a small icon at the side of the screen so when someone challenges you, you don’t have a big fat window in the screen but a small blinking icon)
-pro-duelers don’t always want to duel and harassments are common with this, after 2 declines the challenger can not challenge the player for 15 minutes to prevent abuse.
-any player in the normal PvE shard can not duel at all.
-the flag system works in two ways, 1) it gives the game a sign that you want to be among other duelers, 2) you can set your self as ether an active or non-active dueler so it’s not forced. (some ppl simply want to see duels, they don’t want to fight them)i hope i didn’t miss something.
A shard/phase system would be unlikely. Either not at all, a feature added for everyone w/an option in options not allowing requests for duels, or the gem store way.

Seriously, what happened to this game? I remember a few years ago when Arenanet insisted that Guild Wars 2 would be a game with no grind, everyone could enjoy everything and people would be able to play the way they wanted.
And now, almost 2 years after launch here we are, no real content added to the game since launch, the same boring grind everyday for what ? To get skins ? So people leave the game (like I did) and then come back and see that instead of the usual thing you see in MMO’s, you know “lfg gg” you see the “5k+ only” and when you try to join a group you get kicked. It’s like you are punished for not doing the same boring thing everyday, or for not finishing the achievements of the LS. And when you finally manage to get back into the game you notice that nothing has changed, your character can’t really progress and you’re stuck doing the same thing you’ve done for almost 2 years.
I just don’t find any real reason to play, I want to find something worth doing but nothing is really interesting or new… Just wondering if I’m the only one feeling this way…
I feel ya and so many others do too. You just won’t find much support w/the general GW2 community. Just look at the mount, dueling, & ascended threads.
Don’t expect a Xpac anytime soon at all, the Living Story is directly tied to the marketing and revenue of the gem store, and is cheap to produce w/a high yield. This will not change until we get someone new leading the direction of this game.
Yes some permanent stuff has been added, much needed overdue QoL stuff, around 250 gem store items, and the list of “content” someone already posted.
Pug’n PvE in this game generally not the crowd to run w/so don’t expect good results from that.
You got four general choices in GW2
PvE simplicity
Living story mini games & zergs
Play barbie dress up in a major hub w/your fancy new fuzzy hat, plush back, store bought skins.
Level alts
Join the boss/temple zergs
Guild mission mini games
EOTM karma zerg trains
Dungeon
FOTM grind & Exp’s
SPvP/TPvP
meh, we all knew that was never going to be a esport.
WvW
Zerg
or run solo/group avoiding the zerg…or a thief
I got five lvl 80’s, four crafts lvl 500 all the rest 400, 2 full ascended sets (including weapons, rings, back, etc.), 2 Legends crafted, FOTM lvl 44, Dungeon Master, Mist Runner (WvW), Finished all of Season 1 LS (gave it a full try)…
and that was easy to do since release w/a career, family, & finished college. The game is just not made for players like us, so we log for WvW once and awhile waiting for the grass is greener game to pop up.
But who knows what the future holds maybe Anet will try to retain our playerbase, maybe the release in the east will have a better influence? Only time will tell.

Been in Wildstar beta for a while, have 2 deluxe copies pre-purchased. My guild has also bought copies and have been in beta as well.
We’ve exhausted content in GW2, I don’t know how long ago. We are PvX players (originally from DAoC), so at the moment the draw here is WvW. Unfortunately, other than Wexp (April 15th patch) and EotM (which most WvWer’s do not consider a real WvW map), have been the only updates in basically 2 years. We’ve done explorables ad nauseam with 4 of us. Ditto fractals. Have 2 characters in ascended, 2 more halfway outfitted in ascended, 26 level 80s in a minimum of exotic. And yes, done with personal stories through Zhaitan on several characters, although once through that was enough.
Having said all that, here’s is a snippet of a post I left on a thread out here regarding Wildstar, Housing and GW2:
Don’t like Wildstar’s graphics. Don’t like Wildstar’s overwhelming use of quests as rewards for quests. The combat is fantastic. The lack of weapon choice not so much. It’s like a hyped up world on super-sugared koolaid.
Love the humor.
The housing is just over the top… each character, not account mind you, each character can have their own house. Complete with bonus buffs.
I’m looking forward to playing Wildstar for PvE (in small doses) and staying with GW2 for WvW. If WvW goes downhill after Tournament…
….well, perhaps I’ll just need to permanently change worlds and invest in real estate. I hear Koolaid is an acquired taste. (shudder)
So there you have it.
I will play GW2 for WvW until it decays from lack of attention or ANet makes another ill-conceived ’intuitive" change to the system, leaving it worse off. OR until CU releases.
I will play Wildstar for the PvE challenge. And happily pay subscription for 2 accounts. It’s the business model I prefer.
I’d rather remain with GW2 for all of my play, but the game (which I do not consider an MMO), and the developer’s decisions / implementations over the last 2 years have clearly demonstrated I am not a customer they care to delight.
You absolutely nailed it with this post when it comes to how I and the guild I came here with play this game, feel about it, and future endeavors in WS.
>>>Edit: THIS IS NOT A Gw2 vs Wildstar Thread.<<<
>>>Read this post before replying to the thread!!<<<…. This is not supposed to be a praise to WS, it’s supposed to draw attention to what probably a lot of people miss in Gw2: Actual actively challenging content…
…(please keep on topic and be reasonable)
Listing the pros and cons just to help me layout an answer to your topic, edited post to better suit your results. But I can say their is a hell of a lot more missing in GW2 to fulfill that enjoyment your missing then just challenging content.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
“Gw2 seem to often be referred to be a “very casual game”. Do you think that this is something that the game really, really needs?”
I’m not sure difficulty is the issue in GW2, the issue I’ve noticed more so is the anonymity of a player in the content of GW2. Nobody cares.
Dungeons are a self reliant dps race, no “nice heals!” or “great job tank!” etc..
World boss- Just the masses spamming and stacking, a bunch of avatars in a dps race of a scripted AI, nobody or no role stands out.
Guild missions- Just a snoozefest of lame tedious minigames, rush through get your tokens & chest.
No community built events for example dueling in the open world fight clubs
Living world- Frustrated bugged content for zergs, solo instances, solo rush, map zerg’n
Even travel in this big beautiful world is pretty lame and minimizes it, why group together cross or clear a map just waypoint.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
There is no open world pve dueling in this game and until arenanet implements it there is no such thing. Quit whining over pve dueling alrdy >.>
And those wanting it are trying to argue a case to ANet to add it to the game.
If they can do it it in such a way as to keep griefing and other immature acts down without inconveniencing those who do not abuse the system too much, I’m all for it.
I think the system in my previous post does what you say, how can one be griefed if the option to ask is not there in the first place?
This is a mmo on the internet, and will always have players that choose to harass others. It happens already and more so in PvE content and chat than any portion of this game.
We have ignore and report feature, put it to use.
Well everything is subject to change even if they said they may add it i doubt it will come to pass since pve has always been a player helping player environment if your doing dungeons events ,hearts ,world bosses even WvW to some extent probably a reason why it is its own environment. Now if you introduce dueling its no longer player helping player but player killing player which is pvp and belongs in the pvp environment so i doubt they will add it since they are very adamant about this .
I dont mind duelling but ahhh…………
I think I have a different perspective on this than you. If I get my butt handed to me by a fellow player in a duel I take it as a learning experience. I know what I need to alter in my build or playstyle when up against said butt kicker profession and trait/weapon setup, and request another duel.
and dueling will not result in a death, duel ends when one player has one hit point left, unless in a consensual death match on a ledge, peak, etc..
To wrap this all together so far
Dueling Flag
Not my idea but fully support as it will not promote “harassment” or “hinder” the anti dueling PvE community.
NewTrain.7549:
Here, you all want dueling so bad, I’ve got your solution.
Gem Store Item – 800 gems – Dueling Flag: Use issues a challenge to selected other player in possession of a dueling flag. If used on a player without a dueling flag, there is no effect and your dueling flag goes on a 15 sec cooldown. May not be used in instances, sPvP, or WvW.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/PvE-Dueling/page/6
Similar to finishers I would like to see a variety of this item w/unlimited uses.
I would add unlimited uses of course, and possible like I mentioned above similar to the Representation Buttons of Cutthroat Politics as notification as someone w/said item and open to duels.
For those that were not playing at the time it would look like this (see below pic), but instead of a face possibly a picture of a flag.
Further details
Palador.2170
Okay. If you can get enough people to agree with that, then it’s a start. Now, what are the details?
Where does it work, and where does it not work? Main world? Racial Cities? WvWvW? Orr?
Anywhere & everywhere except spvp, WvW, dungeons, instances, Major hubs (Vigil Keep), Race Cities
Are players immune to outside damage during the duel? NPC damage? Falling damage? Can they hurt NPCs while dueling?
No immunity from any outside environment or fall damage, if a player chooses to harass said duelers let it be., it happens no biggie. Some Fight clubs will enjoy the thrill of playing on a peak or bridge Deathmatch style so fall damage included.
Do you stay where you are and duel, or are you moved to a special area? How about an instance of the area you’re in? Can the people around you still see you? Can they avoid seeing you?
All to view, no special instance. Don’t want to see? Turn away. The community projects (Fight clubs) would lesson or be non existent if phased or instanced.
How much of an area do you get to move around in before you’ve “run away” and forfeit the duel? How long will each duel last? Is there a way to quickly end a duel without waiting for the other person to beat you up while you stand there, if you need to exit quickly?
Area of duel 800-1000 range, better suited for Anet to figure that out. Yes exiting the duel will give you a few second countdown to forfeiting the duel. Duel would last til one player has one hit point left. Leave the range of the duel to exit duel quickly.
People have mentioned possible tournaments with this, how much will you need put into the system as part of dueling to make that work? Do you want something that shows recent wins/losses? A title or indicator for wining X number of duels in a row? And have it taken away when you lose one?
Let all tourneys and events be created by the dueling community, and achievements or titles could be easily attained by cooperation, so this would be Anet call to implement it.
Does it count as a loss if you go linkdead during a duel? Does it count as a win if the other person does? Is there a cooldown before you can rechallenge someone? Would such a cooldown change depending on if you won or lost?
I would prefer a notification in chat for Winner w/a certain range. No cooldown on duel requests.
Do you scale up nearby events if you’re dueling? If you’ve taken part in an event that isn’t complete yet, do you forfeit your event rewards if the event is completed while you’re dueling? Can either of these be used as an exploit, and if so how do you prevent that?
I hardly think this would matter, dueling clubs will not want to bother fighting below Tequatl’s head or in Maws AoE. To further this thought gatherers, RP’s, travelers, champ farmers have hardly been much of an issue in this area either.

Question for the pro-duel crowd:
How many of you were happy with the Living Story? Both how it played out, and what they did with it? How about the Fractals update? Megaservers? Ascended gear? Town clothes?
Do you really want to just say “Give us dueling!”, and trust that they’ll get it right?
If you really do want this, I’d suggest you get a lot of people talking about HOW you want it. What do you want it to do, and how do you make it do that? How do you see it being implemented to minimize the negative impacts it may have on the game? What other features will be impacted by this, and how do you make that a good impact? What would make it popular enough to draw in new people? And how will it bring ANet short-term profits? (Not being mean here, ANet is clearly focused on short-term returns. Given how hard it is to predict things in the long term, I can’t entirely blame them.)
Getting ANet to implement Dueling won’t make you happy if they do it in a way that fails to deliver on what you wanted from it. And THAT is something they’ve proven to be good at.
It has been mentioned a few times,
I also agree if not a direct addition to the game of a dueling option for all, this idea would work great.
Possibly clicking the said item when self is targeted an icon would show up similar to the Representation Buttons of Cutthroat Politics Living story chapter.

After reading both sides I think the gem store flag that you have to buy and wear in order to duel has the most promise. Those who don’t own a flag and/or don’t have the flag engaged, can’t duel. If the person who has the item is visibly flagged then duelers have no incentive to request duels from people without the flag as it’s not even possible.

Hehe I haven’t seen a valid argument from either side. The pros just cry “I want it!”, “other MMOS have it”, “If you don’t like it gtfo!!” and the anti group is “NO!! It’ll hurt immersion and cause griefers!” “It’s dumb!!”,“If you don’t like it gtfo!”
Sadly, this thread is turning into a hater fest. Most of what I’ve seen is not discussion, but both parties bashing and abusing each other.
There has been a valid argument, the valid argument is players like to see this feature implemented and retaining players is what this business is about.
The invalid argument comes from players in this community that constantly say NO to content that retains and brings in new players for the benefit of the game as a whole.
For example I find spvp and the term esport to be garbage in mmo’s, so I don’t take part in this gamemode. But I do understand why it’s here. Even if I don’t like this gamemode and somewhat a waste of resources I understand why almost every mmo does this as it brings this particular player base into the game and helps feed the longevity of the game.
I also find most of these mini games like guild missions and SAB to be utter crap, but once again the resources used by Anet to fulfill these game modes is justified for the many players that love this content, and once again fulfilling the longevity of this game.
Costume brawl, I find extremely annoying especially due to the fact it’s allowed in major hubs w/the constant blam! Bang! Screaches! and other sound effects, but…other seem to enjoy it plenty.
Plushys, fur hats, sunglasses, beanies, all don’t bring anything to the immersion of the game as a whole.
The major complaint from many players that have left this game (I came w/a community of around 50, and is the only one still playing) are the tried and true mmo concepts that help build a successful game & community, not the niche crowd of no “we like the beta version best”.
We all know why the megaservers were brought into play, to rehash, servers and zones were ghost towns except for the top 3 and a few others during peak times, this was not due to success. Success for the community should not be dictated by gem store profits either.
I know quite a few gaming communities, guilds, and players that would give this game a shot again or for the first time if on top of the direction Anet has been on now added dueling, Raids for guild missions, mounts, races, race change, and xpacs.
Save the NO’s for p2w features, not content in a game that at this point in time has great potential yet reached.

The vocal GW2 community imo generally is the community of “no”, worse so than any other community I have ran into.
Dueling in the open world= No, my feelings will be hurt.
Tequatl & Wurm = No, accessibility is not fair.
Mounts= No, we have Waypoints and it clutters my screen.
Raids= No, go back to WoW
GvG= No, you have WvW
Race change= No, your personal story means something (lol)
Mega servers= No, I rather just guest to a server that gets things done for me.
Xpacs= No, we have this great living story.
Ascended= No, no, no, noEasy to tell for some if it isn’t GW1 or standing around playing dress up w/Wardrobe, plushy backs, mini’s, furry animal hats, or beta release content only…..the answer is NO, for the sake of argument I suppose.
It will be very interesting over the next year to see what kind of influence the release in the east will have on this game.
I’m sure Anet will do what they think will be beneficial retaining players, features like above mentioned are a good start including the option to duel in the open world.
Yep, you’ve hit the nail on the head with that. Everyone just wants easy zerging, spam 1 content. Dueling, raids, GvG etc would be amazing…
Very funny, great timing to back what I have noted.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Gw2-need-more-races-and-proffesions
New Professions/race= No, GW2 has enough diversity, not ready for new races/professions yet, to hard to balance.
How does this relate to the topic of dueling, the futility of suggestions in this community. I think emailing Anet will get better results.
The anti content and progression of this game community on bringing in more players w/a larger variety of options, game modes, & content is quite disconcerting.
I have always went w/the belief add what you can, grab as many players as you can, just because I don’t like it or have the skill for it does not mean I shouldn’t accept it. More players, more revenue, better future of the game.

Make it unlimited and make it if it’s in the bank it’s not considered in possession. One inventory slot isn’t going to hinder too many and will let players who may not want to always want to have to worry about being asked for a duel a means to “auto-decline”.
And while a dueling boon is active, nearby foes (including other duelers, if that’s possible) can’t harm you. Meaning griefers not in the duel can’t run that mob into your duel to ruin it.
You also can’t hurt other foes and you aren’t counted as in the event as to not effect scaling of nearby events.
I would imagine this item would be unlimited, like the store bought finishers.
As for other players attacking one of the duelist, I have never seen that option in other games, only the players within the consensual duel can attack each other.
As for beasts and other game controlled entities getting drawn in, meh, this has happen before and no biggie. Usually one player burns it down and the duel commences.
Scaling an event I hardly see an issue with this, not like players would want to duel under Tequatl’s face, or in Maw area effects. Any other world scaling would be as trivial as players in the area gathering, questing, RP’n, etc..
It’s a big world w/plenty of very cool spots for duels to happen some remote, and others for show.
The community building/events sandbox elements of this would be pretty fun and just what this game needs.
I said the same thing a few pages back :P no one wants to discuss possinle solutions, just hate on each other
I added to List Of Things We Want In Gemstore, I didn’t take credit but sure as hell will promote it.
Dueling Flag
Not my idea but fully support as it will not promote “harassment” or “hinder” the anti dueling PvE community.

Sold!,
I’m throwing cash at the screen for this
Forward to Anet!
I’m all for open world dueling if:
It were set it up in only designated areas (city arenas, area of the mist etc) that will separate two players so as not to require a decline/block as entering the arena would be agreement in itself. This way I would never have to visit it and instead would wish those that want to partake a good journey. Maybe the majority of those that wish to duel are not 12 year olds or elitists, but ANet needs to make all player types happy and the arena idea would make for a much more friendly experience to those that wish not to partake.
Hell I would even ask ANet for a 0 cost portal (to and from) to said area so that those that wish to duel can do so without cost to them.
Once again this misses the point entirely to open world dueling anywhere and anytime outside of major hubs.
I think I will give the same advice when Tequatl was revamped or Wurm was introduced and players complained about the intrusiveness and elitism of this “hardcore” PvE content.
You don’t like it, you don’t have to do it.
Except for the simple fact that when you decline and then block the player wanting to duel, he slanders your name all over map chat as being a chicken or whatever they wish to say. I don’t know about how ANet feels about the spirit of the game in the PvE environment, but I am fairly sure they don’t want peaceful players slandered in map chat for how inadequate they are.
Difference being that I can opt out of teq or the wurm without them following me around harassing me for not partaking.
Sorry I still would prefer the arena.
Edit: and to those that say you have to expect this (get a thicker skin garbage) in an MMO, no I don’t and if they add it i will take my money elsewhere, as I am sure many others will.
Dramatic and far over the top,
“I don’t know about how ANet feels about the spirit of the game in the PvE environment, but I am fairly sure they don’t want peaceful players slandered in map chat for how inadequate they are.”
this actually made me laugh,
So fear bombs from costume brawling, trolls in chat, elitism of PvE dungeons, verbal harassment within LS events, kick feature in dungeons, fotm, eotm pve karma farmer trains, and champ trains in PvE.
Your “Peaceful” players…I have met more vitriol players through PvE in this game than any other, now I know you’re here just for the sake of argument, as many others opposed to open world dueling.

I would like dueling to have its own Guild Wars esque features.
for example,
Items! In many other games a duel will start with some sort of notification, usually in the form of a flag dropping down between two players, I think finishers would be pretty great item to start an invite to a duel. Or possibly all new item flag/banners of sorts. Bring that money in.
Party duels! One player may initiate a duel invite within a party to another party for some great open 2v2-5v5. Duel would end w/last player standing.
Commander squads (up to 50 players) duels, supplementing the much wanted Guild vs Guild.
Now this feature may be too much, so adding an additional feature (GvG) to the commander options at a limit of lets say 10-20 would be more reasonable. Duel would end w/last player standing.
No. This isn’t WoW. Stop trying to turn it into that.
Rogue to Thief
Paladin to Guardian
Warrior to Warrior
Warlock to Necromancer
Hunter to Ranger
Mage to ElementalistAll of these classes existed in EverQuest before even WoW existed, so they are not a feature that would be making Gw2 More Like World of Warcraft, just more like an MMO.
Dagger, bow, GS, staff, shield, sword, 1h axe, gun, 2h mace (hammer), wand (scepter)
Hearthstone to Waypoint
light, medium, heavy armor
Similarly… all of this existed before World of warcraft.
Transmog to Wardrobe
I think the devs already beat the players when it comes to taking a concept from WoW. Lets not pretend this is a unique snowflake to the mmo genre, taking an idea from another game that has worked well is nothing new, WoW has done it and so has GW2.
Except everything you mentioned has been in MMO’s before World of warcraft. Fact is, they were in MMO’s before there were MMO Anyone remember paper and pencil games Like Dungeons and Dragons?
Mounts would be a great addition to GW2.
Simply opinion, one not shared by many.
The thing is, World of Warcraft was not the first MMO, but mounts are.
1. Unecessary
2. Undesired
3. a use of resources that can better go elsewhere.and
4. Would make this thread # 459,862 that seeks to introduce an element that would turn this even MORE into a WoW clone.
Mounts. Trinity. End game raiding. Dedicated Healer. Dedicated tank, etc etc etc
For those that miss World of Warcraft that game is still around, go play World of warcraft.
For those that seek something close to World of Warcraft…. go play those.
I am sure there are tons of games with mounts. This isn’t one of them, and that’s the way we like it.
PS: I know many people will now say " But look at the millions that play World of Warcraft… it’s a great game." No…. it is a simple game that has appealed to the LCD.
McDonald’s has also served BILLIONS that doesn’t make it a great restaurant chain. If I had to choose between them and Red Lobster…. I would not be munchin’ down on a Big Mac.
But for those who’se first dining experience was a McDonald’s that never visited a Red Lobster, I can understand why they would walk into one, and ask.." Happy Meal?"
Since you were blinded by the word WoW here’s a cut from my post you seemed to miss~
“taking an idea from another game that has worked well is nothing new, WoW has done it and so has GW2”
and as another has pointed out what would be the reason? money.
If GW2 added mounts and threw one in the gem store it would be one the best selling items yet, nobody can argue that either.
The players against are the small minority here and sales would prove that over a weekend.
This game is not catered for you or your likes, it’s catered for the masses and revenue, time to move on from the GW1 mentality.

I’m for dueling in gw2, this is how I would like to see it implemented.
- Not allowed in major hubs, LA, Vigil Keep, Rata Sum, etc..
- An option (checkbox) in settings for players that don’t want to be bothered.
- No death or finisher, duel ends when one player has one hit point left.
- Dueling allowed everywhere outside of City/major hubs in PvE environment.
Even w/all these naysayers and doomsday comments I personally have had far more better experiences dueling than negative. Outside of city hubs this content fulfilled times of boredom or simple breaks from the everyday norm of current content.
Yes I have been trolled winning & losing a duel, hardly matters though right? Add to ignore list and never run into that player again.
On the other hand I have had duels same faction & enemy that has resulted in a /bow, /salute, /cheer, “gd”, & “what build are you using?”. Some becoming pretty good friends over time.
Nostalgia inc
I still can recall one of my favorite duels from over half a decade ago during BC, an Alliance DK and my Horde DK went at it in Zangarmarsh.
Right before I had the kill hit I backed off and /sit to let himself heal up, he/she seemed a lil taken back and went ahead to heal up, we went at it again.
Almost an hour later and one to two accidental deaths (we both let each other rez and heal to 100% prior to going at it again) we had a crowd of both factions sitting around us not attacking each other watching the show that eventually ended in a /bow and going our own ways. Good times.
Fightclubs in the PvE world, this is a big factor for players that don’t understand or want dueling in PvE environments. They can happen anywhere anytime anyplace, and the world that Anet has built it would be a shame not to put it to use for this reason. Underwater, mountain tops, caves, towns, and even the consensual Deathmatches on bridges, peaks, Jp’s, etc..this is the point of dueling.

Open world PvE Dueling
Mounts
Guild activities like GvG, Raids, anything but the boring gmissions we have now.
Well written story followed by a solid xpac (new zone, class, races, professions, weapons, mounts, pvp modes, WvW reskin maps)
Race change
Reward for playing a support role
Just a quick list of why the players I know left, and why this is a backburner mmo for myself.

Always a fan of the otherworldly dark look
Here’s is mine, I have yet to change my original look after my Necro rite of passage (Arah)
With the same reasoning, i can go afk in the field and come back 10 minute later and see a dead zerg at my feet?
Seriously though, stealth and evasion are the two core mechanics of thief gameplay so of course they are going to have access to it. Please leave your QQ elsewhere. This can go for pretty much everyone else that complain about thieves.
Thank you and good day sir!
You do realize I play a thief almost exclusively in wvw right? I spend most of my time roaming solo looking for solo roaming and dual roaming builds and kill them.
Yesterday I solo’d a necro/engi team, thief/engineer team, thief,ele,necro team, thief/necro team
and myself with a same thief build friend killed a team comprised of an engi/necro/ranger/warrior/ele and an upscale thief (which doesn’t count).
Edit “I did lose a fight to two shatter mesmers and a stun warrior”. That was definately a bad fight to get into.
What other profession has the capability to do such a thing? None.
I love to win, but going back to the character comment that one thief player made…. I am all for fair play, so compare me to someone like himself and others who want free wins. The lack of character is most assured not my problem.
Reveal should be changed to 6 seconds.
What other profession has the ability to win 1v2? Hm, good question. I hope someone will come along and answer it. We need to sort this out as soon as possible.
Any profession played by a player that understands the strengths and weaknesses of their class vs. the others they are about to fight can win 1v2s.
This QQing about thieves is mostly a ltp issue.
Not at all, spoken like a true Thief.
It takes lil to no skill to play a Thief profession well in WvW, even at a loss to a skilled player results in not a kill but an escape. A player that understands the strength and weakness of other professions playing a Thief is gg op.
This is nothing new though Rogue, Thief, blade, Stalker pick and choose any mmo w/an open world pvp environment and you will always see these kind of players play these kind of classes.
It has been awhile since I posted and thought I would chime in,
I don’t miss the gem store & 220+ items that have eaten up resources from Anet, so glad back to a sub & earn the new content.
I don’t miss the focus on gold-Gold now in the game i’m in is for WP’s and repairs.
I don’t miss the focus of playing dress up over game play, I never was into playing w/Barbie.
I don’t miss the skill lag/lag in WvW
I don’t miss the Living Story-Nice to see update w/permanent content.
I don’t miss the lack of trinity, so very nice to hear again “great heals this run!” or “kitten good tanking!”, & “going to add you to friends list, great run.” Gw2 combat system nobody cared what you did or how you did it, as long as you didn’t die and brought zerk dps.
It’s too bad, had high hopes for GW2. I don’t blame the developers though, & look forward to seeing them in future endeavors.
I put the blame on NCsoft and companies like them doing these cash grab mmo’s, they can’t & do not have good follow through when it comes to properly supporting the content/QoL of their games, especially when trying to support 5-10 mmo’s like these companies do.
It’s funny and clear what the GW2/Wildstar audience prefers, when comparing combat at a large scale.

Considering that was generally low level players in beta the extent of abilities is still quite small, but you have to consider what real large scale pvpve looks like compared to GW2/WS. Slower pvp & animations is better combat, compared to the zerg/blob mess of particles we see in GW2/WS in above link. But what I have gathered in game (I have asked in game), most players rather play dress up barbie and look good w/flashy particles and animations than competitive combat. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
Slower pvp doesn’t equal better combat.
Yes it does when it comes down to mmorpg at a large scale.
Without reactive time you get nothing more than dps spam (GW2/WS link above), stuns, stun breakers. Reactive timing is even better when you consider a trinity model combat at large scale PvPvE, otherwise you get trinity combat like WS.
you don’t have to agree w/me, the links above lay it out pretty clear for anyone.

After all there is that RPG in MMORG, else it would maybe RWG for “realistic war generator”. Personally i will also never really understand what all the PvP stuff has to do in RPGs. Why don’t play these people Shooter or World War X or whatever if they have no interest at all in RPGs.
PvPvE has been apart of mmorpg’s for as far back as I can remember, from the simple I killed your avatar and I get your stuff to large scale open world events. It’s the “esport” that is still fairly new that I agree should share no space in the mmorpg.
Enjoy GW2 WvW

Gw2 has no monthly fees
that’s what sells me on this gameI completely rufuse to support subscription based games as they are nothing more than a colossal rip off
Gw2 proves you can make a superb high quality MMO and not extort money from your fanbase every month
I would never have gotten into MMO’s or online gaming for that matter if it was not for Guildwars 1 and its no monthly fee policy
So glad sub-model games don’t have players like you, mmo’s cost money to run and be competitive, it’s just that simple. Please tell me all these employees should work for free for years so you can get your entitled playtime.
Enjoy GW2 WvW

You’re argument might have come close to having a hope of making sense if GW2 wasn’t already the 400lb gorilla in the room proving you don’t need a sub to be successful.
We clearly have different views on success when it comes to mmo’s. This feature pack is looking pretty great, the next step is to follow through w/substantial content to give the feature pack something to actual stand on, I hope they do.
If they don’t players can continue guesting to the top 4 servers that are still populated.
Just don’t let the top WvW guilds get a whiff of ESO AvA.
I have to agree with the OP. I am sorry but if this is called a feature PACK patch then what do we call an actual feature patch where new things are introduced?
A “content” pack. Same as everywhere else in software development. A feature pack refines. A content pack adds.
Good lord what a messy blah, not on your posts, but how content/marketing comes to this game.
Maybe I’m just getting old, in my day we called it xpansion packs, here’s your content & your features in the pre patch notes. Now buy the xpac, DL, login, cya in 6months with an update, a few bug fixes along the way…..have fun!
It really can be that simple.
Scrap Combo field/finishers, lame anyhow.
Better emphasis on GW2 trinity- Support, Control, Damage
Produce better AI and content when it comes to dungeons, & World bosses.
add some collision, for example bosses being pushed into walls etc..
I would just like to say that playing the ESO beta made me realise just how ‘spoilt’ we are with all the innate systems and features of GW2 that we just take for granted. Sure we may only be getting now a wardrobe, account bound legendaries, etc. Sure they may be calling it a ‘feature patch’, does it really matter though? We are getting things that we asked for – things they have undeniably spent a long time putting together, if that stuff doesn’t excite you, you should probably take a break from the game.
As much as I agree these are great QoL updates, they hold no water if not followed through with exciting substantial content to look forward to. If these QoL updates are followed through w/the same recipe of content we have seen since release….playing dress up & just adding new abilities for same ol’ same ol’ will only go so far.
As much as I think the feature QoL pack is great, this is hardly anyones first mmorpg, the hype built around this is blatantly over the top on Anets part. Other mmo’s I have played would just stick this all on one page as a QoL section of a larger content update.
Instead 15 days (March 20th-April 4th) of hype w/a release of the QoL Feature Pack April 15th….c’mon.
Just drop it all in one announcement, here’s the patch notes, here’s the release date. Enjoy.
Now that we got QoL updates that should have been implemented six months ago at minimum set aside, and we are going on 19-20months the game has been live, where is the real content?
What is the game plan for the next year?
Still sticking to the same recipe of content (Living Story) we have seen since release?
It only needs to be a secret if their is something to hide? One of the best features of xpansion packs is knowing what’s to come: New races, professions, dungeons, raids, zones, personal story, overall story, weapons/armor, QoL, levels, mounts, PvP modes, etc..
GW2 vs Wildstar is not the same as say GW2 vs WoW. Funds for development comes from across all NCsoft titles of this genre All NCsoft titles fund each other, GW2 gem store purchases=WildStar development, and the same can be said for WildStar release sales. You do not support Guild Wars 2 alone, you support (below) & than some.
Guild Wars
Guild Wars 2
Aion
Blade&Soul
Lineage
Wildstar
For those of you who have played Wildstar, could you please answer the following questions:
1. What is the PvP like, compared to GWII? Is everyone on the same level with the same gear and skills, and can I level up in it?
It’s very gear dependent starting bis w/Warplots & working its way down through the different pvp scenarios (Arena, BG). Your level and the amount you have to spend will dictate what available abilities you have.
2. How does the combat feel, compared to GWII? Is it dynamic, fast-phased and varied?
Same in the sense w/more clutter, stun, lockdown, blow-up youtube will give you a better idea.
3. What is the transmutation and dye system like, compared to GWII?
Extensive, but don’t let the other poster fool you, WS will have a digital store. A sub-model w/B2P, f2p w/ingame currency.
4. What are the quests and dynamic events like, compared to GWII?
Group and solo oriented, “dynamic” not really, but neither is GW. After multiple level 80’s GW dynamic are all the same each time through.
5. Can you play any way you want while being properly rewarded, like in GWII?
By that I mean quests, events, PvP, exploration etc.yes
6. Is there a holy trinity, or is it free of roles like in GWII?
yes, they give you the illusion of build varieties w/many skills to slot, but you will always have the same 2-4 depending on class and a few to swap in depending on content and role you want to play atm.
I am very interested in Wildstar but I haven’t been able to dig up much information about it. Guess I haven’t looked in the right places.

Yeah, it is best that you do. Your post was a prime example of stating a personal (biased) opinion as if it was fact with pointless ‘yeah, that doesn’t count’ arguments. Deny all you want but I have shown that this game has seen more content than some would like to admit.
But if you don’t like it, have fun playing another game.
Seems plenty of players share that biased opinion of substantial content, & I would think we could agree somewhere in the middle. Please notice yes I was critical on some of that content, but also agreed w/you too on some.
Like I mentioned the 2nd year this game has been live is wrapping up, it’s not like I blame Anet devs at all, but more of a complaint to NCsoft and how they could allow a game w/so much potential lose in so many ways through greed (i’m all for profit) and probably proper funding/focus to reach such a potential.
At times I have been critical, and other times w/praise. I wouldn’t waste my time posting if I didn’t want to see a game I invested time in since BWE2 succeed, & bring players back that have left or going to leave.
(edited by Wetpaw.3487)
Yes & No
Yes, if I see substantial content updates that I find interesting and worth my time to play I have no problem supporting the game financially. This being my first b2p/f2p game I decided back in BWE2 that I would support this game under the premise of a sub model devoting $10-20/month.
No, when content is being produced in a way..like it has been, I use my ingame gold and stop w/the sub model.
as far as the individual price of content in the gemstore, it’s anet game and I’m indifferent as it does not change what I typed above.
