I can imagine the picturesque meta where the developer would like Elementalists to go considering the Glyphs, Burn changes, and Fire cantrip nerf (and minor scepter buff). Oh and “lessened sustain” due to the Vigour nerf.

And then you have the reality utterly deviant from the developer’s simplistic expectations and full of unintended consequences.

D/D Celestial Water Cantrips is still strong; possibly more so than other Elementalist builds that don’t rely upon Water Cantrips (Soothing Disruption), but do use Renewing Stamina.

It’s only one build that’s consistently on top of the others. Glyph, signet as subpar builds get hit pretty hard with the collateral damage.

I seem to recall elementalist not having to rely on Water/Cantrips quite so much. This “normalization” reinforces the reliance upon Water Cantrips.

My guild is small and we have a tight community. The boss schedule means some of us will never see megabosses again thanks to real life commitments. So we’re looking for games that don’t make us clock in on schedule.

As for the mega-server, I like that the server we are on has a culture. If we do RolePlaying in the open world, it is not looked upon as silly. That is effectively gone when all the zones and cities get merged.

When using Dagger in Air, all i did for the WHOLE time was Auto attack. Which should be about 60 attacks, if its 1/2 cast time. with 4 procs per those 60 attacks. That would mean it has a proc chance of like 2.4% or something. Same goes for Scepter, only used Auto attack in Air and in Earth, nothing really changed. Still a rather low proc rate, even with the more attacks.

Way I interpreted the skill text was that it has a chance per spell, not per hit. There’s ambiguity in that text that makes this all the more aggravating. Even per spell the proc rate is low.

It doesn’t seem to have a cool down between procs, it just has a terrible proc chance. Some times it proced twice in a few seconds and then went 10+seconds without nothing. So not quite sure what the issue is. The 20% proc chance seems to be a tool tip bug. It can NOT be 20%. It would need say a 50% chance to proc with a 1-2second ICD or something to really make it better.

Grrrr. If it’s that low then its’ going to need a large N analysis to establish the proc chance then. Not fun.

Wouldn’t Dagger/Dagger and then switching to Air be better? It has a faster attack rate. Sure Earth has the Immune to Crit, but nothing else. Scepter Earth pretty much has 1 Blind and added Toughness. Nothing else. Also the proc chance is rather poor.

Testing it, in 30seconds it procced 4 times. I tried in Earth and Air with Scepter and it procced 4 times every time i tried. I tried with D/D and using Air and it procced 5 times and then only 4 times the second try. To me, this simply isnt good enough and is rather a waste of a utility.

The consistency despite the disparity in attack rate between Earth and Air/Scepter and Dagger suggests a very large internal cooldown. If this were rectified, the Glyph might actually be a strong utility instead of an otherwise-useless stunbreaker.

I’d rather see it applied to reveal time, bumping it to 5s.

What makes Thieves so special that they should be left out of the fun of Chill that other professions get to enjoy? Thieves have ample condition removal and evasions.

The original idea was that the lower-HP classes have inherently defensive class themes.
Guardians have lots of access to regen and prot.
Elementalists are highly mobile and have teleports and above-average access to area healing.
Thieves can stealth to break target locks.

Except on the Thief, the “unique” effects are too available on other classes, however.

Correction: Elementalists were highly mobile (nerfed) and have a teleport and access to area healing that no one should want.

Warriors are more mobile, have more armor, more health, don’t get a teleport and have a wide assortment of builds for a wide assortment of situations.

Effect of rune changes on boon duration?

WhimsicalPacifist.2943

Did you see how new monk rune is going to be? It has overall +15% boon duration (yes same as now but it gives you 5% from 2 bonus and 10% from fourth). Did you see how the new rune of strengh works? +45% might duration. Anet clearly wants us to make boon specific builds, not all boon builds. With this change my build as dd ele and crit dmg reduction on my celestial make me to change build compleatly. As you said +45% burn duration, not condi duration.

Elementalist survivability is predicated upon three separate boons: Regeneration, Vigour, and Protection. Swiftness might be included as well if roaming. This matters less in PvE but for WvW it does make a substantial additional nerf to Elementalist survivability.

Observe the Omnisciens Macaque in his natural environment: the Forums exhibit. Alas, he is one of the few of his flying brethren still alive, for this Macaque is known to devour his own kind.

As the visitor peers into the Forums, the Omnisciens Macaque laughs at him for not visiting the forums, not refreshing the ever-changing Devtracker every two minutes and for not stalking Developer’s houses and wiretapping their every phone call. Reading the patch notes and applying logic from priori events are meaningless excuses to one of these superior beings.

Clearly the visitor to the Forums exhibit is an inferior species to the Omnisciens Macaque which has every right to deride and passively fling kittens (yes, real kittens) at him from the Forum exhibit.

((Seriously, the Forums is only a small representation (highly opinionated/biased portion) of the general population. Why is it Dps is being reduced when you have these unbelievable tanky build that max dps in the first place dont effect.
I understand its main for Pve because support rolls dont really matter too much.
but does that mean Pvp and wvw are effected too ? tbh not really bothered about wvw you do loads of damage anyways with food buffs and other wvw bonuses.
Pvp at its current state to mean seems very broken too me and i have stopped playing atm till fixes or new game types happen.

Overall it feels like we are getting punished for wanting to play superglassy 0% surival builds instead of being tanks.
if anyone thinks im seeing it wrong please enlighten me i would love feed back.

Warriors get a 10% attack speed GM trait which will yield even higher DPS than they are now. So not all things are getting nerfed equally.

= 7002 effective power = 7.7% increase in effective power (compared to only exotic gear)

So I guess with a full set of ascended gear that we will have in the next 1-2 year it will end up somewhere at 15-20% damage increase. That is significant but not gamebreaking in my opinion. For a min/maxer sure, but for a normal player who wants to do dungeons, WvW, etc they don’t need that. I hope they will add optional harder content where you might benefit from that extra percents but if you know how to play your class I am sure you will manage without.

15-20% increase in damage output not a gamebreaker? Try rolling an alt or make a new account and try to grind to get to that content designed around 15-20% increased DPS. It hinders new players when they reach cap and realize that their guild is ahead of them in gear/instance progression by several months.

Did a little test in the builder how much those weapons you “need” to “grind” for really matters in damage. Let me know if I did something wrong.

1. full berserker warrior without ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:

http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.2|7.1g.h1h.9.1g.h1|1.1g.h1|1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7|1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67|u5ab.a1.0.0.u69c|0.0|5x.6d.6e.6c.6m|e

= 6503 effective power

2. full berserker warrior with ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:

http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.2|7.5g.h1h.9.5g.h1|1.1g.h1|1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7|1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67|u5ab.a1.0.0.u69c|0.0|5x.6d.6e.6c.6m|e

= 6582 effective power = 1.1% increase in effective power

So if you don’t feel you really really need that 1.1% increase in damage (or the looks) don’t grind for it! It’s easy like that

Interesting, but to really see the impact of ascended you should add in full beserker with ascended weapons AND ascended trinkets. Also you are not mentioning Critical Chance or Critical Damage which, when factored into damage output, have a greater than linear effect on DPS.

I really don’t see how ascended gear will lock people into playing a certain spec….

If I fully upgrade my berserker gear, I’m not going to wear that 100% of the time. My defensive set will still be better in situations where I need to survive. My condi sets will also be better than upgraded defensive gear for my dot specs.

You’re still able to play the way that you want too. Everything is still doable with exotic gear. Only things that ascended gear help you with in PvE is high level fractals and the odd solo achievement (IE Liadri 8 orb). If this game introduced regular gear check encounters in this game, then you people probably have a reason to complain…. so far that’s not the case.

I’m still giving away exotics to those in my guild who only have rares. What happens if new content is released designed around Ascended level of gear? It widens the gap in gear that an alt or fresh 80 has to bridge before attempting current content aka Liadri, non-zerg WvW.

They will release content scaled to Ascended for this reason: if it is doable in Rares, upgrading to Exotics would be a waste of money/karma/time better spent on Ascended/Legendary. The scaling has been slow, but it’s there because the bigger sword you grow, the bigger thing it has defeat, conquer and impale. Otherwise you’re just left holding a big sword without a reason.

Second thought it only somewhat qualifies as one: a Prisoner’s Dilemma would be more rewarding if all players didn’t default to the easier option. Thus the event really only qualifies as a PD because the only exclusive reward to it is the achievement. If you’re trying for that achievement now, you’re really hosed now that everyone is choosing the more lucrative option.

Bring boon removal on utility skills, weaponslot or traits. Your wish will result in a meta where teams of Fresh Air elementalists 321 spike and wipe the floor too quickly for anyone to comment on the gameplay.

The gameplay needs to be slowed down, using skills should have more significant consequences ie Shockwarrior where Exhaustion would wipe the Warrior’s power if he spammed it too often. Shock in this game? Hmm, close range Elementalist skill, knocks down opponent on touch range and chills yourself for 8 seconds if you fail to hit.

A lot of what you see is anger over the lack of room for creativity within the class traits due to the myopia/stoicism of the developers in designing/balancing the class mechanics. PvE is doable with several builds, the mobs don’t act intelligently and each fight follows a script.

It is PvP-based builds that have seen a weakening in bunkers in condition removal right before the meta shifted to condition-centric and a weakening in survival (stunbreakers removed and Mistform nerfed) that have been particularly irksome.

My kin (guild) has for the most part gone back to LoTRO. I’ve had several friends +5 ask about GW2 and just the mention of the level cap changing and vertical progression surprised them and became a turnoff. We initially thought it was going to be a good side game to expand to, not the full time job Ascended requires.

Other than that they’ve been playing a game where the previous tier of gear is easy to obtain, has a very clear established progression, and isn’t rendered obsolete by the stats/content metagame. Wardens tanks are perfectly fine without the level 75 tanking set (the old 85 Tower of Orthanc set is arguably better with higher avoidances). Wish there’d be some sort of level upscaling for lowbies but there is some copying of features from GW2 that’s being implemented in the coming patch.

Bear in mind that without stability it’s a one-trick pony- the first time they may not think the elementalist has the teleport and eat the combo. Second time they’re more likely to use blocks, interrupt Churning Earth or CC the elementalist.

It might be more repeatable in a team-fight but the other team will also gib the elementalist who just spent all of their utility slots.

But then, yesterday, when I got the last of my exotic peices and changed my runes and sigils I completely change my mind (until this point I had been running around with MF stuff). Elementalist isn’t UP, it isn’t equal to the others, it’s freakin’ OP. I’m running around like a boss kicking kitten I barely have to try to kill people anymore, they just drop dead infront of me..

It would have been better to clearly state the itemization and stat priority of your build to give the OP a good idea of what to do right. I myself can’t tell if it’s a condition build, if it’s going 30-30 Beserker or if it’s straight out of DaPhoenix’s build.

Back to the main topic, in terms of actual gameplay one of the things that really sticks out is movement. With D/D elementalist it is important to know the ranges of the opponent’s and your own attacks and to be constantly doing a dance around the opponent. Little things like integrating LoS, and knowing when to book it to allow cooldowns to come back up so you can continue the fight help as well.

As for learning, I’d suggest starting with pulling 2 mobs at a time in a lower zone (1-40ish sounds fine) and working yourself up to 8. Wolves are excellent practice as they summon allies that can simulate additional enemies coming to a battle. I don’t know about the intricacies of Scepter but kiting a champion and adds for several minutes with Staff is quite the learning experience.

Thief already has all the tools it needs for survival via Shortbow for positioning, built in evades on multiple weaponsets and very strong options in Shadow Arts/Acrobatic. The single best passive condition removal in the game is available to thieves as a 10-point trait in Shadow Arts. Were thief to get a buff to survivability P/D, the Leaping Unicorn, and S/P would be over the top.

What Anet should focus on are:

1. Taking another look at the underwater weaponset to ensure that condition thieves aren’t penalized by getting wet.
2. Creating interesting counterplay to the mechanics of stealth/high damage. Maybe change some of the reflect effects to reflect melee damage.

For the burst you’re seeing in the video? Fairly simple, no points in Water, full Divinity Runes and a Beserkers for the health given. Assuming 30 Air and 30 Fire:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQJAoYhEmKbzR5gjDAhHHQQCiHP4QElC5A;ToAg0CnoqxUjoGbNuak1MGZyB

10 points can be taken out of Air and put back into Arcana or Water if you’re too uncomfortable being an absolute glass cannon. Haven’t tried out the Haste proc sigil on elementalist yet, but a fast Fire Grab → Churning Earth sounds yummy and with 72% chance to crit (fury) on the AoE’s the odds are much improved. 30-30 hits really hard but it’s meant to end fights quickly; if it becomes prolonged the squishiness and cooldown on the attunement swaps starts to hurt.

Makes me lol when you don’t even bother to log on a lvl 1 thief to test that if you leave shadow refuge before it fades (4seconds), your stealth breaks as soon as you leave the refuge area. You need to stay in full 4 ticks before you can leave if you want to keep your stealth.

Really, it’s hard to make a lvl 1 thief and go to mists to test this stuff out guys, really hard!

Five slots and eight classes makes this impossible at all times.

(discounting 4 for being in Shadow Refuge to stack it) Svanir has only the large frontal cave to get at him I believe, but the Chieftan has breaks in the Stonehenge. Is the team supposed to cover all those breaks to stop the thief, or does this asymmetry not matter?

Edit: Hmm, ranger traps probably would cover enough area but the trick would be getting the Chieftan in a corner to not trigger the traps.

Gooood, very good. Let your anger flow through you.

Let the thieves feel the pain they’ve wrought on elementalists. Finishing them right off is too good for them; down them and then run off to Ride the Lightning back with flames of vengeance when they are about to revive.

That’s a mesmer bunker build I’ve been seeing more of lately. Most use Sword/Pistol but torch might work for them after the update. Defender or Disenchanter are optional in utility depending on preference. Not sure how to fight it, shatter mesmers are easy once the patterns are established but this bunker one is a pain to try and whittle down.

Combos relies on other proffesions, that’s their whole point.

Thieves, mesmers, engineers, guardians and necromancers all say hello. Each of those have the means of producing combos off of their own combo fields.
