Game no longer runs

Hi there

I took a break from the game a while back and decided to load it back up again the other week but after I open the launcher and login then click play it loads for like a second and then crashes.

The error message on the box reads: A serious error has occurred that prevents the program from continuing to run.

The “show details” log is huge but I’ll just post the top bit that lists the crash info..

I have tried everything I can think of but can’t seem to get the game to run at all. I’ve uninstalled the game and then installed from fresh. I’ve made the folder read only and also ran the exe as administrator.

I haven’t changed anything and the game was perfectly fine when I left it so I really don’t know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Condi, power, precision. Basically what rampager should be. With this you open up the possibility of 1 condi spec being included in optimized pve groups.

Even Power, prec, condi damage could work nicely.

there is a stat for power, precision, condition damage, its called Rampagers

Rampagers is precision > power > condition damage

So it’s not the same.

Why not just do away with stat cominations all together? Create armour with three sockets, one primary and two secondary. Replace stat combinations with runestones or gems. Each stat has two gems, a primary and a secondary gem. Socketing any gem of a specific type prevents others of that type being used.

Essentially the same system as now but instead of creating recipes and dozens of acquisition methods (as well as unfairly forcing players who want specific combinations to participate in inflated markets – zealots, sentinals etc) all you have to do is create two gems of every stat and players can customise it themselves.

The system we have now is needlessly restrictive.

This could actually be a really neat system. Though if gear only had 3 item slots in them, not sure how Celestial would work.

It could be interesting though. Makes build variety and customization much better, and balances out the gear progression. For example; gearing out your character in rampager’s is much easier and cheaper than gearing for Sentinel, Celestial and so on.

Vitality > Power > Precision
Condition Damage > Power > Precision
Condition Damage > Power > Condition Duration

Also, could be interesting to add condition specific stats to new gear sets.

Example:
Viper gear stat: Poison Damage x2 > Vitality > Power
Phoenix gear stat: Burn Damage x2 > Power > Condition Duration

Obviously these would need some work to balance them right, but I think this could be a start to making more viable condition builds. Focusing more heavily into a specific condition rather than trying to do them all and limiting what you group can do with their condition.

Maybe I just misunderstood what this ready up series was for, but to me it seems like lately it has changed and gone in a different direction.

From my understanding, ready up was supposed to be a series that informed us of upcoming changes and how the game is progressing in terms of balancing and new features. The first few episodes were really great and informative to watch like the previewing of balancing, new skills and so on, but the last couple of streams has been like 5-10 minutes of basically nothing new information, and then the other 50 or so mins just watching people do a match of pvp.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the series, but you keep saying we don’t want to miss it because of the new stuff, but all you keep saying on the last episodes is you are removing glory and so on, stuff we already knew ages ago, but we still have no clue at all on what’s to actually come and how the game is shaping in the near future.

Ps. Josh is extremely funny to watch, so I always tune in any way even if I get nothing from it

It used to bug the hell out of me that temporal curtain didn’t apply swiftness if you already had it. I run with signet of inspiration so often just as I put down the curtain, SoI would pop swiftness on me and the curtain would just be wasted, that or someone else puts swiftness on me, again rendering my curtain useless.

So I am glad it finally applies swiftness whether you have it or not, just a shame it came with a 50% reduced time. However, the guardian’s symbol of swiftness ticks up the longer you stay in it, so to get the most out of it you need to stand in it for the duration of the symbol. The curtain may now work like that, where running over it gives you 6 seconds then ticks up for additional times passed through, which would make sense seeing as it says it now gives swiftness when you already have it.

So IMO this is more of a buff than a nerf.

I’m personally interested in changing Mesmer so it doesn’t rely entirely on Deceptive Evasion.

I play Mesmer a lot in PvP, and I’ve never used Deceptive Evasion trait, so I don’t see how they rely entirely on it..

I personally think Skyhammer is the best map in the game. Worst map IMO is raid on the capricorn, can’t stand water combat so I never even bother going to ruins.

I honestly haven’t died on Skyhammer by falling off that many times, and I have killed quite a few people with my mesmer knocking them off, but nowhere near as much as normal kills.

I find it annoying that Skyhammer and Spirit Watch are not in team arena, although I rarely play team to be honest.

It’s because so many people don’t want the “pressure” of getting pinged off the edge by a Hammer Guardian/GS Mesmer/LB Ranger etc. People just don’t want to be aware of their surroundings and will dish out any argument against the map that they can think of.

Getting knocked off the edge is a mechanic that people need to learn to adapt to in order to prevent, rather than flaming and abusing those that cleverly take advantage of it.

Exactly! People rage about being knocked off map, but being locked down by a hambow warrior, or constantly back-stabbed by thief is much more annoying.

I guess warrior’s don’t like having to play smart and be aware of what’s going on, they too used to going in, spamming hammer then retreating back to fire bow and repeat.

You will still be able to buy them, just not with glory. Pretty sure I read they are just replacing pvp currency with gold so there’s not so many currencies. So you will most likely still be able to get them, just may cost more like 1g+ for one tome.

Yeah your screen looks brighter than mine too, I play windowed mode so I can’t change the gamma, and don’t want to change monitor settings as it’s fine for other stuff.

EDIT* I realised after taking the screens that I had left some of my graphics turned down a bit due to low fps in big battles, so I turned everything back up and decided to take the shots again (as best as I could) new screens now attached.

Hey everyone.

So at the end of the marionette event it bugged and she was just stood there still so I decided to get some pictures of her up close, because it’s hard to sit and watch when you’re in the middle of killing mobs and dodging stuff, so it was nice to just walk around and get a feel for just how big she really is.

Any way, thought I’d share a few screens I took. Not sure if anyone has done this already, if so then my apologies.

I’ve seen it before (and I know of at least two others that had) sometime before the last halloween event, in my case when I WP and back again the light was gone.

If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a bug and the light lines from the projector during dragon bash/bazaar living stories is showing at the same time than the statue, since nobody else could see them when I did, and reloading (when waypointing) made them dissapear.

Yep, definitely a bug. Just re-logged and it’s gone.

Meh, got a bit excited for a bit.

Pretty sure it is a bug caused by the hologram machine from Dragon Bash.

Hmm, I forgot about the hologram from Dragon Bash, probably is that then.

I did think it was a bug at first, but then thought why would a bug place beams through the statue, but after looking at it now it does look like the hologram thing.

This has probably already been discussed but I just went over to the lion statue in Lion’s Arch and noticed it has white lights beaming from it.

Now I don’t often sit and look at the Lion but I know it wasn’t always like this before, but was it like this before this patch? I can’t remember when I’ve passed it in the last few weeks.

Tried to get a good shot of it but wasn’t easy…

Maybe there is a ley-line under the statue, and magical energy is beaming from it.

Maybe I’m just making stuff up because I’m bored sat in LA xD either way I’ve not seen this before. So is this new? or am I too tired?

Hmm, guess I just need to keep at it, though I’m almost certain I have evaded the sword at least twice.

Achievements like this are kind of annoying because it encourages people to play for achievements instead of actually trying to succeed at the event. Like we always need more people on lane 3 but most people stay in the lane they need achievements for, like me I’m always going for 4th chain so I can get my last achievement, and even when up on the platform I’m usually paying attention to sword attack rather than focusing on the champ.

Ok before anyone says you need to sever the chain before getting achievement, I know that.
So yeah, twice in a row now I have done the sword attack platform on 4th chain and both times have evaded the sword attack more than once and all platforms killed their boss and we severed the chain, yet still I haven’t gotten the achievement.

Someone else on my platform said they didn’t get the achievement either after dodging the attack too. So is the achievement currently bugged? I have all other achievements and this is the only one I need for OoM.

Hmm, must just be your server because Marionette and Wurm are far from a “ghost town” both get map player capped long before they start (on Desolation).

Also, the Origins of Madness content is not going away, it is staying for another 2 weeks.

I was watching a video on Wooden Potatoes YouTube the other day and he was talking about something from the original Guild Wars that was meant to be a new expansion but never came, then some of the stuff is being used now in GW2. Can’t remember exactly what he was talking about, though.

Also, if you decide to upload your collection on here or another site then I’d love to take a look at them. I didn’t play the original Guild Wars so I would like to see comparisons of then-and-now areas within Tyria. It’s always good to see how things evolve.

When I first saw this helm as an achievement reward, I couldn’t wait to get enough achievement points to unlock it. Then when I finally did, I was disappointed to find it clips terribly on Asura characters.

When wearing this on Asura, the ears are still shown and clip right through the helmet, which looks ridiculous and bugs the hell out of me. Some helms hide the ears when wore, but others still have them showing, which causes bad clipping on this helm.

I understand armour clipping is probably quite low on your priority list, but surely it wouldn’t take too much work just to change it so the ears are hidden inside the helm (like others helms)

As you can see, it looks very silly.. so please fix this.

It should just pick a new leader when the current leader leaves (other MMO’s do this) or at the very least, allow the leader to give leader status to another group member.

1. Remove gold-to-gem transfer and reduce the cost of store item. Seriously, why do 3 little gathering tools that add no content to the game at all cost the same as the full boxed game? That is stupid.

2. Add more varied skills, including weapon, heal, utility, elite and racial skills.

3. More variety in PvP. Launching with just 1 game mode was a really bad mistake, I don’t even play much PvP and even I’m bored with the same mode already. We need more modes, different types of maps, new features and mechanics that are unique to PvP.

4. More varied and challenging dungeons. Almost every dungeon feels and plays the same, the only difference is which skinned mobs you are killing for the next few rooms. Kill mobs, hit a switch enter next room, kill a few more mobs, progress through a mind-boring “puzzle”, stack and AA a boss.. repeat.

5. Add solid combat roles. They always said before launch that you can play how you want. I want to play a healer, but I can’t. I stack as much healing power as possible, yet can’t even keep a single player alive in a dungeon.
I want to play a tank, so I stack as much toughness and vitality as possible, yet still die in 2-4 hits.

6. Make “personal” story more… personal. If I am playing my personal story then why on earth am I doing everything Trahearne tells me to, so he can claim how great he is at the end? Also, every race is effected by their own Dragon, so why are the Norn off farting around with Zhaitan when their biggest threat is Jormag?

7. More account progression instead of character. Ok so they have been improving this quite a lot since launch, but there is still a long way to go.
I want my dye unlocks to be unlocked for my account. I want my skins (especially ones bought with money from store) to be unlocked forever on my account and have unlimited access to them. Super rare items that you grind for a long time should be account bound not soulbound, and so on.

Did the same yesterday, and last year if I remember right.

I come top score pretty much every round, but I kind of have a musical background as I make music in my spare time, so guess that kind of gives me an edge. I’ve also played a lot of DJ hero and band hero too.

I’m so glad I can get them another way now instead of bloody mining them every day and only being able to charge 1 a day, making it a long grind to make my celestial set. No other stat is time gated to craft, so why should this one.

This has really sped up my celestial crafting set now, and may actually be able to make a 2nd set for my other character.

For some reason, it really bugs me that people keep saying transmutation stones. It’s crystals for 80 gear, not stones.

Now that’s off my chest, I doubt they made this armour with the thought of driving crystal sales in their mind. After all, the only decent looking armour set they have added to the game is Magitech set.

Don’t know why people are saying they can’t loot chests with AOE loot.

I can loot boss loot and chest loot with a single press. I know I had trouble with AOE loot before with it not actually looting everything and still had to manually loot each mob/chest but now it loots everything in range with pressing the interact key.

You use aoe loot on interact.

I bound my key to E, and don’t use F for anything. I’ve sometimes thought I didn’t get to loot a end chest because I already picked it up when looting the boss without realising.

Big quality of life patch

So every now and then, we get some good quality of life features that don’t actually effect the game itself, but make our experience playing the game a lot better, like the account wallet, account wide fractal level, and upcoming account wxp.

The annoying thing is, there are so much more things that need changing/adding, yet we have to wait a long time because they are busy working on living story content.

My suggestion is, to take a month and just forget the LW content for that month and focus 100% on features and quality of life changes. I would gladly give up a months worth of new events and what not for some well needed changes, and I’m sure the majority of players would too.

I’m aware a lot of things have been brought up already, but I will just list some things that I think they could add in one big month features patch.

  • Account-wide dyes
    This would be such a useful feature to have in the game (as appearance and cosmetics is a big thing of GW2). My bank, and loads of characters bags are full of dyes that I’m keeping because I haven’t decided which character I want them on yet. I have also wasted dyes before by learning them on a character I have later deleted (I used abyss on a necromancer, which I later deleted to remake… I still regret that to this day) This would solve the problems of keeping dyes to use later, or losing dyes when you delete a character, as all dyes you unlock would go in your account collection.
  • Account-wide unlimited skins
    So, you know that awesome Marjory dagger you just bought from the gem shop? It looks awesome in your Necromancers main hand, but wait.. you just decided you wanted to use a dagger in your off hand too, so now you have to pay again for something you already paid for with real money.
    Then you decide it looks pretty cool on your elementalist too, so again you have to buy yet another one. You then decide you want to play some PvP, oh wait you’ve lost your dagger, looks like you have to buy another one AGAIN just to convert it to PvP.
    All skins, should work like the achievement unlock ones, it seems stupid to me that I have unlimited access on all my characters of some skins I got just for getting some lousy achievement points, yet skins I’ve put real money down on, I can only use ONCE, on ONE character, and have to buy again to use in PvP or on other characters.
  • Account-wide Legendary weapons
    So, after spending hours and hours, hundreds of gold, millions of karma and much more, you finally craft your legendary Bifrost to use on you Elementalist. A month later, you don’t play your elementalist any more and decided to play your guardian and use a staff. All that hard work and effort to make your Bifrost is now a waste, when you could be using it on your guardian. If they still want to keep them tradable, they can just make it so it binds to your account when used, instead of soulbound.
  • PvE locker
    This kind of ties in with what I was saying with unlimited account skins. But just like the PvP locker, we should get a new collection tab in our bank where all unlocked skins go, including weapons, armour and back skins. However, instead of being like the PvP locker where you just get 1 and no more, once unlocked and deposited into the PvE locker, it should be there forever and be able to take out as many as you want just like the Zenith achievement skins.
  • Changes to mini’s
    Some people love mini’s, including me, however I rarely ever use them nor do I ever see many others using them. The biggest reasons for this I think is because:
    1. Unless you have an invisible bag, you lose it every time you deposit your collections.
    2. Forget/ can’t be bothered to keep using it. Why does it disappear every single time you zone in or load another area/ instance. It should act as ranger pets or other AI allies, where they stay out with you no matter where you go or if you zone to another map. Half the time when I do use my mini, it’s only until I map change because I always forget to keep clicking it again.
    3. Even when if I do use an invisible bag and click it every time I zone out, I still never see it unless I’m AFK standing still. Why are they so slow? As soon as it catches up, I see it again for another 2 seconds and then it’s gone. So what is the point of going through the trouble of keeping them with you, if you only see them 10% of the time.
    4. Needs more stuff to do. Sure, they can look pretty cool when you first get a new mini pet, but after the new cuteness effect wares off, what else does it do? We need more interaction with our mini’s or something else to do with them, so they don’t only serve as a trail for people to follow you 200 yards behind.

Ok this post is getting really long now, and I doubt many are still reading. So I think I will leave it there for now.

The bigger issue is that AoE Loot doesn’t open chests! You can be standing right on top of a chest and hit AoE Loot, but still leave the contents of the chest behind, untouched! Don’t ask me how I know this.

Yes, it does.

I’ve done it plenty of times running fractals and dungeons, I loot the mob/boss loot, and it also loots everything from the end chest too.

That would be like the unlimited gathering tools only having an iron level rarity, no one would buy them.

I personally think it should be exotic level, but like it’s been said already, it would defeat the purpose of having BL kits in the gem store.

If this is a bug, then I really hope they leave it with master level.

Yep, definitely noticed an increase in rarer mats and upgrades.. it’s definitely not the usual 20%.

Was running fractals and I usually salvage every green and blue along the way to free up bag space, only lately that hasn’t been working because I’ve been replacing every blue/green with a sigil/rune.
