A two minute intro? Boring af. I nearly just stopped watching. Also, the quality is kinda bad.

“only a aoe stun”………………I just want the irony of that to sink in.
Imagine if a player in LOL or DOTA said “I like this champion but their ult is only a AOE stun.”
GW2 and MOBAs aren’t comparable. Even less so with combat mechanics. Don’t be silly.
Back on topic: despite however bad some elites are, they’re never as bad as ele ‘elites’ which are basically just bad utilities.
[feat]
Because sometimes there simply aren’t people around your MMR playing a variety of classes.
Engis are very popular, especially new/low skilled players, so when they make up a significant percentage of the population, it’s hard to avoid stacking.
Can they fix it? Yes, but you’ll probably have much longer queue times. Which is worse is a matter of opinion.
[feat]
I’m genuinely thought I was going insane when I saw the water. I kinda like it, though. No idea why it was changed… Any dev like to chime in?
[feat]
I’m so happy I could almost cry. I’ve gotten so sick of all the turret engis that I actually don’t want to queue any more unless I’ve got my full team on.
These look like good changes. I wonder what the implications for Supply Crate will be though, given that celestial rifle engis don’t trait for turrets so their turrets from SP are quite weak anyway.
[feat]
@Royal
Cele Ele is being pushed out of the meta by medi guards. Shoutbow is more op currently.
Erm… I don’t think Shout bow is remotely more OP than Celestial Engineer. o.O Maybe a little tankier, but Celestial Rifle engi can CC like a MFR and deal quite a bit of damage. Maybe not as “teamy” but Celestial Engineer is still pretty kitten OP.
And regardless, many would argue Shoutbow and Meid guardian are a OP too, doesn’t really mean celestial rifle doesn’t need toned down, because they really do. #NoPowercreep
He said ele, not engi.
[feat]
Also… Your GS2 is unblockable. After OF, that ele is going to get rekt by your mirror blade. Make sure you land that and you’re golden.
Another thing, if you’re really quick, you can dodge the main lighting damage cause most eles will do it as soon as they swap into air for big burst.
[feat]
Ele is very good. D/D, staff and S/F are all viable (I tried out all of them) at this point.
S/F is great for taking out doorbreakers/guards
Staff is good as well for the AoE. The healing is especially good.
D/D does both well. In fact, D/D shines when it’s got room to move. You get much more use from the FGS and can be nearly impossible to kill.
The CC on all those weapon sets are good, as is the stability from Armour of Earth.
So no, ele isn’t weak in stronghold, you just have to play it right.
[feat]
Turrets are made of metal. They transfer heat, but are not exactly “burning”. Only thing that could happen is melting while placed in fire field
.
Metal would still take damage from fire though, so being affected by burning isn’t going to break your immersion.
[feat]
It’s there. I was confused as well when I first saw it. I kinda like it.
[feat]
Why use Glyph though? Surely Ether or Signet would be better.
[feat]
To summarise: practice and muscle memory.
[feat]
I don’t wanna hate, but watching D/D eles is as boring as it gets, but maybe thats just me.
Bunker guards are worse.

This was just superb. I had so much fun, and I laughed so hard. Going to bed at 4am was worth it.
Congratulations to Ti who, let’s be honest, won it with her “song for the ladies”. And then the Anaconda duet with Supcutie.
Also congrats to Phanta for making all the phanties drop.
Thanks Genyen, kitten and Storm for hosting/organising and all that. I hope you do another tournament and, if you do, I’ve been inspired to maybe (maybe) join in. Maybe.
[feat]
Please link me this build that can tank 3-4 players forever. I would like to run 2-3 of these in the next Go4 cups for the easy $400. Thanks in advance.
Well if you are in a team you can plan for it, in a PUG you can’t.
Point = missed.

1. What the heck are you talking about?
2. I’ve never heard or read any of the names mentioned in this thread.Rom’s “RomOnRum” stream last night.
Also, ROM wins everything. I was laughing so hard.
Aaaaaha. So some random dude who streamed some PvP (and probably announced it on reddit or so), I guess. Okay. Thanks for the clarification.
You clearly don’t have much involvement with the PvP community, lol.
EDIT: First person zerker warrior was hilarious.

I’m so hyped. Let’s be honest, this is the true esports event of the year.

I’m enjoying being able to chase mesmers and thieves with Lightning Flash now. Lawl.

So, using wikipedia.
bla bla bla
Dear good do u really think anyone’s gonna read dat wall of text.
Doesn’t read the post. Still argues. Logic.
Let me condense that terribly long paragraph of text for you:
Impact is right. The mid-dodge roll hit bug is primarily caused by latency. Whether not the latency is caused on a server or client side is a different matter entirely.
The rubber-banding and ‘unstompable’ player bugs are caused by desyncing of the client and server which is caused by the interaction of latency and positional extrapolation.
Hopefully that makes clearer.
The only thing I can think of to combat this is to increase the time within the animation that allows a dodge, so that, theoretically, you’re giving the server and client longer to communicate and decide on what actually happened. This is basically what was being suggest with the whole ‘animation frames’ thing.
It’s not exactly a proper fix… It won’t reduce latency. But it might improve the player experience when dealing with high latency.
[feat]
I’ll just take 2 DPS guards on the team and trolololololololol all the way to 500 points. If you’re relying so heavily on a thief to carry your team, that is.

Typically I play a MinionMancer, as that is the class build that I can handle best up to now.
In Khylo I take care of the enemy treb and after doing so I tend to look on the map whether I can help out on far or center.
In foefire I usually look for far or center, but at 250+ points I start taking down the doors and focus on the enemy lord – and often remain completely alone doing so, which makes me an easy prey for respawning enemies.
In Silent Storm and Niflhelm I mostly concentrate on far and center, only when I see that home is flipped and nobody takes care I go there.
My experience is that a lot of my fellow players tend to either run around on their own, not teaming up at all or do the exact opposite, fight in a huge bubble of players around center – which I personally believe to be inefficient.
Maybe I should try to look for some sort of regular group. I am under the impression that I am not strong enough to carry a team and therefore coordination will help me to experience feelings of success more often.
Firstly, MM is a really bad build. You won’t really learn how to fight, you’ll just let the AI do most of it for you. I really suggest you try a power or condi build for necro. It’ll be harder at first but the pay off is much better.
Khylo: Don’t take out the treb’ unless they’re actually using it; it’s a waste of time otherwise. Assume they were using it and you’ve just destroyed it, you essentially have three options (the three points). If far is free, you should probably go far. If far isn’t free, i.e. they’ve got someone sitting on it, you should go mid. From the treb’ you can see your home point. If you see someone going to decap it, you should go there.
Foefire: You only ever do a lord rush if you can’t win any other way, or you’re absolutely stomping them. You should also never try to solo the lord, it’ll just end with you dead and your team 5v4 across the whole map. You said yourself it makes you an easy kill. Having identified this flaw, why do you think it’s a good idea to try it?
It seems to me you’re focusing on a point or two and just tunnel-visioned. That isn’t how you rotate. You go to where there’s an even fight, so you can +1 it, and make it a 2v1 in your favour. Never +2 a fight. You’ll lose a cap because of it.
Or, you go to the empty point and decap it. That said, your main job, as a necro, is to be a team fighter. If you’ve got a thief on your team, they should be decapping empty points.
I really suggest you watch some VODs of The Abjured, since they run a necro in their comp. But remember, above all else, soloq is a mess in terms of rotations, so it’ll never be perfect. Just try and be useful.

Builds are categorized as OP based on the top tier, competitive scene for a reason.
For example: DPS guards aren’t OP at low skill levels. That just makes no sense. The builds work exactly the same whatever skill level you’re playing at. The difference is that some builds are easier to use, and thus, more effective for less skilled players. That doesn’t make them OP, it makes the newbs… Well, newbs. Surprise!
You can’t call a build OP because of L2P issues. That’s just silly.

To those saying you should only stomp or res, not cleave, I have two words for you: mesmer shatter.
I play mesmer and I love it when a squishy class goes to res someone and I just take the resser out as well. I then either res my team mate or continue damaging the downed bodies.
Even if we have a player down, I can be pretty certain that I can cleave a downed guy faster than a downed person can cleave a downed person.
In fact, the only time you should stomp is when you’ve got stability/invuln. Trying to stomp and getting interrupted and potentially killed is far worse than cleaving or ressing.
[feat]
There’s a clear line, I think, between competitiveness and criticism, and toxicity. One which should be fairly obvious. I suspect PvE players coming into PvP find it hard to tell the difference because PvE is so… Fluffy.
If you mess up in PvE it doesn’t matter at all. A mistake in PvP can cost you a match. Also, being rude is not toxic. Rude is not saying please, thank you, and washing your hands after every kill. In a match there isn’t time for that.
So, if you make a mistake and someone calls you out on it, that’s not toxic. Their role in a match is not to babysit you or your feelings. If they have a go at you because it cost the game, the point or fight, then you shouldn’t complain. If you don’t like the criticism, that’s tough. You don’t have a right to not be offended, by the way.
Just the other day, in fact, I had someone have a go at me because I messed up (my excuse: I was half asleep). I didn’t especially like it but it was, in a way, justified. So I didn’t go QQing because someone said something mean.
Hell, the point of PvP is to kill other players (generally speaking), so of course people are gonna be a little bit aggressive.
So yeah, this turned into a ramble, sorry about that. But basically, don’t take criticism to heart and if whatever someone says is reportable, then report them and block them. If it isn’t reportable, then it’s probably just you being overly sensitive about it.

Bumping, if bumping is allowed.
Bumping isn’t allowed.
We should probably create a thread for people to post bad match instances instead of the various threads.
You can also just PM if you don’t want any data discussed to be public.
A matchmaking sub-forum would be really useful.
I’ve definitely seen an improvement in the matches over the last week or so, but there’s still those occasional ones where it’s completely one-sided, so it’d be good to post information on the match so you and other devs can see what went wrong.
I suspect part of the problem is low populations…
Anyway, yeah, if I get another bad match I’ll PM you with the time/data and whatnot.
Cheers!

Just had a terrible match. We only had 4 players, which probably accounts for the poor scores on my team, but even still it looks like a bad match up.
I wonder if Justin can take a look at the data and see what went wrong?
How did my MMR compare to that of my team and the other team? I’m pretty sure I had the highest MMR on my team.
What was the predicted outcome of the match, and why did it only pull 4 players for our team (or did someone leave?).
The game started around 2pm GMT on the EU servers. I was playing on my EU account so the account name to check is Auldon.1972.
I’ve also attached a screenshot.
Thanks!

I’ll just be happy to be on the friendly side of Spectral Agony for once..
but just because they are allies doesnt mean we won’t have to fight them as well. (nightmare court, blood legion, etc)
Oh god, the Agony… war flashbacks

I’ve seen a lot of people saying that this guy might just have been trolling, but given that he genuinely didn’t seem to know what he was doing, I’m inclined to think he wasn’t.
If he was just a bad player that’d be fine in a way, but he was just super new to PvP. He should not be in ranked or put in a match with anyone with similar experience to me (1.2k games or so).
Putting a restriction on ranked is also good for the new players. There’s nothing fun about joining a game and getting your kitten handed to you and then getting flamed by annoyed team mates.
I have a simple restriction system:
5 hotjoins → 25 unranked → ranked
I think that forcing a progression like that would improve a new players basic understanding of conquest (e.g. capping points, secondary mechanics). The 25 matches in unranked would then get them used to playing with a team and force them to rotate better.
Then, when they’ve got more experience, they can join ranked. And hopefully the matchmaking would put them with other people of the same skill level.
[feat]
The issue is not the map/game mode itself, it’s that it is in the conquest map rotation. As someone said above me, it’s all about team comp and build.
You simply wouldn’t use the same comps or builds in a 5v5 death-match as you would in conquest. Thief, for example, is nearly useless in courtyard. So if you set up with mobility etc in mind and you get courtyard, you’re gonna lose.
Oh and it’s just a zerg fest. So fun. If I wanted to zerg I’d go WvW.
[feat]
Also pushing far after winning mid is a very bad idea. The enemy team will be on respawn and if they see their home node contested, they will just zerg the point and kill you, which causes you to be outnumbered across the map temporarily. Instead you want to be in a position to see respawns while being able to reinforce both home and mid quickly, there are certain sweet spots on every map for this purpose.
The exception to this is that a thief is fast enough to neutralise the point then escape before the respawners arrive, since they can abuse shortbow 5 for mobility.
I disagree with this. If you’ve swiped them, they’re going to have staggered respawns and are likely going to trickle 1 by 1 into the point. If you send just 3 players to far, you can essentially spawn camp them whilst still having map coverage from the other two players and a 3 cap.
This doesn’t work so well against organised groups, but the pressure is always good.
You can in fact send 4 far and have 1 guard home/mid very easily on all maps (with perhaps the exception of Khylo, it’s probably best not to send 4 far).
[feat]
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who gets frustrated by this.
And, it’s no fault of the player, really. It’s just that the system allows them to join ranked and get put with people with far greater experience.
[feat]
This doesn’t happen too often, but often enough that I get kittened off at having matches thrown by players who don’t even know how to cap a point.
Please give Ranked Arenas some limit. E.g. You must take part in 10 Unranked Arenas before you can do ranked.
[feat]
Also having this issue (I’m the person Irrwi is talking about who tried NA). There’s a really noticeable difference.
[feat]
Since the I bought the game I’ve been playing on an NA server, even though I live in the UK. I’ve had no lag, no horrible ping issues, nothing to complain about.
I recently bought an EU account so that I could pvp at more reasonable times. When I playing on an EU server I get so much lag and high ping.
Why?
[feat]
The concept is decent, I like the dungeon tab solution using images; makes it much more interesting. A lot of the tabs (particularly the Hero Tab) are both overcrowded and communicated poorly, I think.
If this is for your portfolio, there’s a few things you should work on. A lot of it is just the existing UI copied and pasted in a different layout. This doesn’t show off your ability to make a UI, it shows your ability to rearrange one.
It looks particularly amateurish when you can tell that the majority of UI elements are just copy and pasted.
Instead of copying and pasting bits, try recreating the style yourself. This will make it easier to design as well.
You’ve also got inconsistent button design in a lot of places; there’s about 3 or 4 different button styles. The “Back” button design, for example, doesn’t fit with the rest of the UI.
Basically, it could do with some polishing and refinement. I’d also steer very clear of super large images for presentation. You’d be better off making a webpage to link to which would showcase the work in the best way.
The website design, however, looks great. Far more interesting than the existing one.
[feat]
The nerf won’t really do all that much. We’ll still be able to sit at around 18 stacks of might, compared to, the usual 22 or so. The loss of power is only going to be about 230.
Which isn’t insignificant, but it’s not enough to make D/D ele nonviable.
In fact, we’re getting a 7% buff to Lightning Whip damage. So, yeah, it’s not really a huge change.
[feat]
This is basically a Dervish from GW1.
[feat]
Rather than give them a level cap, give them time.
Let them play, restriction free, for a set time (~1 month? Maybe less.) then, if they want to continue playing, they can buy the full game.
This would work by allowing the player to accumulate in-game wealth, achievements and so forth. They’ll become committed to their account and the game and more likely to buy it.
[feat]
We do plan to show the odds of winning as part of the final ladder when it’s released. We simply did not have the UI resources to get anything out in time for the test ladder.
Out of interest, what does “did not have the UI resources” mean? Did you run out of pixies making pixels?
[feat]
It seems like you’ve got those nostalgia goggles on. I mean… You know there’s this thing called WvW? It’s basically AB but kinda bigger. Try it out.
Regarding your recipe for PvP success, can you please assemble your 5-man team with full comms and win WTS in Boston pl0x. If you don’t, I’ll assume you must be really awful if it’s so “stupid easy”.
Also, rangers have plenty of conditions and 2 interrupts. Heck, one of their elites is an AoE condi bomb. Point blank shot is a 15s CD knockback (which interrupts). Shortbow also has a daze.
I think you’re just trying to find issues because you want to play Guild Wars but there isn’t much community there so you’ve come here but it’s a different game entirely. Just my 2.
[feat]
I’ve seen quite a few people complaining that the changes are too small… Personally, I’d rather see more frequent, smaller changes.
It’s difficult to balance a game like Guild Wars 2 which is pretty complex in terms of combat, so I’d rather they did small stuff like this.
People seem to forget that if, even with the reduction to might and might stacking, cele is still a problem, then the amulet can be adjusted far more accurately.
I’m happy with the changes but, well, 6 months is a hell of a long wait for this sort of balance. Do this scale balancing far more often (e.g. every 3 months) and I’d be content.
I’m also super happy that they’ve fixed the LW bug. I always hated that.
[feat]
I think the single biggest thing that separates good and average eles is knowing the correction rotation for a particular situation ,and for utilizing the combo fields.
Eles have loads of blast finishers: make the most of them!
