GW2 leveling is way too fast.

Compared to GW1 leveling is already painfully slow in GW2. Getting all professions to lvl 80 and fully equiped is really tedious. Making it even slower would be a real disservice to Anets faithful fans.

With that being said I understand where the OP is coming from, I get what he seeks in a MMORPG and why he is disappointed about not finding it in GW2. If you come here not knowing anything about GW1 and 2, expecting the game to follow the same rules as most other MMORPGs do, than you are in for a nasty surprise.

This however doesn’t mean GW2 has to change. Not at all. If you don’t like the way leveling in GW2 works than GW2 is simply not the MMORPG for you. Go and play another one, there are plenty out there that give you what you want.

Yup, I don’t know anything about GW1, a little bit about 2. Nope, no nasty surprise here. It’s more like a “cultural shock”. Nope, if I don’t like it, I will leave it and wouldn’t even find my way here to the forum. I am just expressing my comments about the leveling speed.

out of curiousity what games did you play that had such a painful experience?

Where is the late game ?

the problem is there is no “high end” endgame

there is no punishing backbreaking soul crushing raids/dungeons

the esport aspect never took off

wvw is usually determined by whose server is more active/more playres.

What i can say

PVE can be fun with friends and voicechat

pvp doubly so

pvp can be fun regardless (tho also frustrating as with any pvp venture)

wvw is why i play the game, im not 80 yet, but its the best endgame this game possesses

the gear you get will matter in wvw
the skill you have will matter when roaming
its a mixture of PvE, PVP and zerg and its always happening.

while a “point” would help, it doesnt really need one.

the only mmo’s ive played with compareable pvp is wildstar. wich in general was the best mmo since wow imo. sad it died down so easily. i hope a f2p model or buy once no sub would help it, id go back to it in a heartbeat.

i also have high hopes for elder scrolls online, it recently going the same route as guild wars 2 (a great price model imo and good compromise between f2p and sub) ive heard only good things about its pvp.

basically after this summer i hope to be able to try out heart of mists, elder scrolls online and i hope wildstar comes around so i can reactivate my account and do awesome stuff.

GW2 leveling is way too fast.

i was the poster in tha tlink provided lol

i would seriously stop playing if there was that much grind

might i suggest wildstar? they talked it up to being the mmo for veteran hardcore mmo players.

its very well polished and quite fun, tho it doesnt have the playerbase it used to. i also love its artstyle/controls and housing. but my accoutn was hacked awhile back and i dont really ahve time to spend 15 bucks a month on it anyways. so i never recovered it.

i hear it might be going the way of f2p in the near future, that it might come to steam. id be curious to see how pay to win it becomes or pay2customize wich would kill it for me because that game was all about customizing.

when to hammer, when to bow...or

in Warrior

Posted by: Wolfe.3097

Wolfe.3097

When you get conditions you want to cleanse it with the longbow burst skill. Reason: If your hammer/gs burst misses (enemy dodges or you get blinded etc.) you won’t get the cleanse. LB burst always cleanses conditions even if you hit nothing. That’s the main reason everyone takes LB in spvp, the fire field from LB f1 also covers a large area, ideal for fighting on a capture point.

In Wvw however, no one will keep standing in your fire field. LB won’t be an effective weapon there, some warriors use it for the immobilize to set up burst (GS 2 or Axe Burst) but it is much weaker than in spvp. WvW allows much higher stats with ascended gear, buff food and applied strenght/fortitude, you can deal a lot more dmg than the same build in spvp.

how do you close that gap with hammer/bow tho? just kinda waltz?

when to greatsword!

i understand the traits, and i understand you use longbow both for a ranged option and to use cleansing ire to cleanse conditions…however…

other then when knowing im getting conditions stacked when do i hammer and when do i bow?

im new to warrior. my main preference/goal is GS/hammer for wvw roaming but i get the impression i cant make that really work in spvp. I try but i feel like all GS was useful for was closing the gap. GS main burst is nice but hard to land without bola or bulls charge. and i dont want to give up the 3 stances as i feel they are too useful in spvp.

basically i look at the skills, i get the general idea, but i dont really know when to do it. basically i feel like i just spam cd’s

Make (Fast Hands + Warrior Sprint) Baseline

in Warrior

Posted by: Wolfe.3097

Wolfe.3097

here is the issue

you make fast hands baseline…there is a brief moment of diversity until other meta defining builds are found. maybe it will be less overshadowing, maybe more, but you will still find people who state you cant function without it.

you dont make fast hands baseline. warriors continue needing it to function…period.

you take it away, you have to REDESIGN THE ENTIRE CLASS to balance out the nerf it would cause. warrior would be sub par in almost every way at that point. they really do lean on fast hands that much.

imo its more likely hte first or second option, both can be worked out with relative ease, the third option simply wont happen, would require far too much effort.

GW2 is not optimized worth a dime. I dissapeared for a year. When I came back, I had the same computer but with a faster video card (2 car dgenerations newer). The game performed WORSE.

Somewhere in the last year, Anet broke the game. It sucks for everyone now.

while i dont think thats true i do feel like it runs worse after i came back, and i upgraded pretty much everything by that point.

This game should never have had any levels. It’s a crude, artificial and stupid way of handling character progression that should have died with Gary Gygax.

id be curious about that in single player games. i know ive been enjoying witcher 3 but i find leveling tiresome. gear i understood i guess. but the leveling? meh. just let me be max level, build a character so i can fight other max level c haracters.

i feel like leveling is hand holding.

Playing the game is apparently a grind now. Why even play?

i dont like leveling

i like playing the game

i dont find leveling to be a central point of my enjoyment.

id be totally happy with a game taht was like a mmo in every way except you dont have levels and you dont have to unlock skills.

but other then leveling i do enjoy this game, just putting that out there.

Try PvP then? For me leveling is part of playing the game, and GW2 makes it very easy/relaxing compared to most MMOs. If you skip leveling altogether, you’ll miss out on a large portion of the game, as well as all the gold, karma and crafting mats that you could use later to get gear.

no i wont, i can just go back to them at a later date and complete them.

easy peasy.

i dont have a problem with questing, or crafting, or doing dungeons, i like them. i just dont like doing them to level. i dont like leveling.

So from what I can tell the Skyline CPUs will have 20 PCIe lanes and with the right chipset support x8/x8/x4. The soon to arrive Broadwell for socket 1150 will still only support x8/x8 with it’s 16 PCIe lanes.

So if x16/x16/x8 is important, that only leaves you with the Haswell-E.

wich is in fact what i have in store to get.

obviously the specific processor could change tho in the future, whose telling what my list will look like by the end of the summer!

Where is this BS about i7s bringing out the “full potential” of multi GPUs coming from? The mainstream i5 and i7s are both quad cores. HT on an i7 simply lets a core be a bit more efficient at two threads than if those two threads were simply multitasking. If anything Haswell-E’s ability to allow x16/x16 over x8/x8 probably provides more of a kick.

there are games that are badly optimized for pc, assassin creed for example, though most games should be fine. i5 with some overclocking can be fine for optimized games in long run. though im pretty much talking about all games.

also, meh, since already spending much on getting such a extreme setup, spending another hundred to get i7 wouldn’t kill

right now for a haswell i7 its a bit more then 100 bucks more…. just saying

tho that may change by this fall

if you going for high end cards and not extreme cards, i5 is good enough

only enthusiast will go for i7 since only i7 can easily bring out the full potential of dual graphic cards

the processor i have picked brings out the full potential of 2 cards, but not beyond that.

If you pvp all day every day, you should have at least one level 80 in less than 2 weeks, unless you lose a lot.

Well if you’ve really got your heart set on getting to 80 asap then try the Edge of the Mists. It’s basically a karma train but you get a lot of XP as well.
Although I do kinda feel like you’re missing out on the fact that the open world PvE experience really isn’t that bad.

id be fine with doing it AFTER hitting 80

IMO this is exactly the wrong attitude to have. Just play the game, run around and have fun, and you’ll be 80 before you know it. If you insist on getting to max level ASAP then you can always craft your way there; a friend of mine leveled his ranger from 1 to 80 literally doing nothing but crafting, and it didn’t take him very long. Although he did have all his materials saved up from an earlier character.

sorry ive never had fun with leveling.

i bought this game when it first came out, highest character was 23 before taht because i got sick of leveling and just did spvp all day everyday.

Well you can do sPvP all day everyday and still level your character to 80. Based on what you are saying this might be the way to go.

You get leveling tomes from the reward tracks, and those come fairly frequently. So by doing just PvP you can get to level 80 by doing what you enjoy.

might be a good idea, tho ive noticed EoM gets a lot of karma heh

Just didn’t want you to spend that much on an “ecosystem” that’s on the way out.

I do want to point out that the Haswell-E line is a bit of overkill when it comes to gaming. You are spending a lot of money on not a lot of extra performance.

ya i know, but its whats needed right now to keep up with the future hardware. however if by the time im in position to buy the hardware and there is something that is cheaper/offers better performance ill purchase it instead.

Ah, and Fx-4130, even worse, first gen Bulldozer core. At least it’s not 1st gen Phenom with it’s L3 cache issue and low clock speed.

And you don’t need to blow 2-3K on an entire new system. You can get a reasonable decent rig, DIY, for $1500. Be aware that we are on the cusp of DDR4 shift in RAM which will affect CPUs since they all currently have the memory controller built in. Late next year is AMD’s “Zen” line of CPUs and Intel has already started with their high end Haswell-E line, nothing mainstream yet.

im spending that much because i will be able to and i want to. and yes it will involve ddr4 and the proper new intel cpu and motherboard to take advantage of new and future hardware improvements.

i actually ahve my evolving list bookmarked lol.

GS/LB but you gotta know how to play it thou. In the right hands this setup destroys people, you can start first with hambow since it’s easier to learn.

i have to ask why is it harder? the only difference is yoru first set of bars….

GS builds are played with Berserker amulet (which is pure DPS) while every other warrior build is using a tanky amulet.

Of all the warrior weapons GS’s burst is the hardest to land.

You also don’t have any access to CC or blocks (however there is a short evasion on skill 3) with GS/Lb.

take some skills that let you land gs burst

take a secondary set that helps with CC

profit?

Sacrificing any defensive utility skill is a huge blow to your sustain. Giving up longbow on the other hand is just insane, longbow F1 is the only ability that will proc Cleansing Ire to cleanse conditions every single time you activate it even if you are blinded or hit no foes with your F1 which makes it your best condi cleansing. Longbow is the backbone of every viable warrior build.

is wvw that different?

i know wvw you can do a gs/hammer build for roaming

Make (Fast Hands + Warrior Sprint) Baseline

Wolfe.3097

im starting to think fast hands while good is ultimately a fun “crutch”.

people want it baseline because of how fun/fluid it makes warriors

people dont want it baseline because of how powerful it is

its used regardless, in almost all specs, there are a few that dont.

so its either

A-too strong, needs removed with will nerf warriors horribly, resulting in a a LOT of compensation to put them on the level. the side effect is warrior will never again get that fun/fluidity back that fast hands gives. many people will stop playing warrior and possibly the game (as people have already stated they only play warrior because of it, they dislike 10 sec cd weapon swaps)

B-made baseline, people will whine as any class would enjoy such a trait/feature.

C-nothing changes, warriors will always go full dicipline just for it until the end of time

D-they put everything else good in the same slot, resulting in everyone picking fast hands and being nerfed into the ground at the same time. warriors will retain that fun/fluidity/lack of choices, but will be worse overall.

pick your poison

so what i gather, is we shouldnt have viable alternative choices in builds?

k

It’s a refusal to believe you can function without it (same as Cleansing Ire). It’s one of those traits that feels so nice to have you couldn’t imagine not having it. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to be successful without.

you cannot be successful without it in pvp

so i guess, in pvp, we shouldnt have viable alternative choices?

dont give me that holier then thou pvp doesnt matter crap either

this isnt just for warrior, but any class, they shouldnt have viable alternatives? guess not according to a few people in here.

warrior would need a lot of changes in pvp to be viable without fasthands.

Alternative builds are nice and would be great, but the way Anet is heading currently seems to be streamlining several popular builds into similar but equally or more powerful versions, with their new elite specializations as the real “lure” for experimentation and diversification.

They try to balance with PvP as their main concern, because of a desire to become an e-sport or something, but what they’re doing is simplifying options and making an already easy to pick up game easier. Which might be a good thing, but I doubt it will do anything for the non-existent “pro” pvp scene. It might, on the other hand, solidify more PvE builds, and open up at least some spots for other professions to enter the dungeon meta. Altho that depends on nerfs to elementalists more than anything else.

so onec again nobody has a choice unless its

choose to spec well

choose to spec for suck

I tried to give you an answer keeping in mind what Anet’s intention seems to be. Whether that intention is healthy or not for the game is a different discussion. Even in GW1 that was harder to balance and had a LOT more options, there were several archetypes that ruled the meta in PvP and PvE, most of which remained unchanged over the years.

you gave me an answer

this is why im enjoying warrior now but will be playing revenant when hot drops (then picking warrior back up down the line)

the future is pretty obvious right now.

there isnt a thing that they can do to replace fast hands without having to make a MULTITUDE of class changes to warrior, wich wont happen all at once.

the elite spec will either go unused, or will be completly bonkers overpowered. regardless there will be no spec diversity.

then, when fast hands is deleted, warriors will become everyones whipping boys in pvp unless again, if the elite is overpowered as all hell.

not looking forward to the mess, but enjoying warrior right now :P

Altho that depends on nerfs to elementalists more than anything else.

so onec again nobody has a choice unless its

choose to spec well

choose to spec for suck

because there are people that want the warrior to be either one trick ponies or to just generally be nerfed to the ground
