On the topic: I have zero issue with cosmetics being grindy what I have a issue with are stats and function being grindy. if they made ascended gear have stat swapping like legendarys and made ascended gear actually drop more often I would have no issues with ascended gear and legendarys but they have yet to do that.

Thanks for bumping this and bringing to my attention. That is definitely a cool idea, but of course it does touch a little on the topic of gear progression. So here are some more questions for you with regards to your proposal:

  • Is Legendary armor better than Ascended armor stat wise?
  • Can this legendary armor be obtained anywhere else in the game?
  • How do we prevent the introduction of Legendary armor from invalidating players who spent a lot of time/money crafting their Ascended armor?
  • Is this a drop from raid encounters, or is it obtained through a “raiding reward track”?

I think you can see where I’m going with this. Ascended armor is already a pretty hotly debated topic because it did introduce a very slight vertical progression to the game.

Honestly its kind of unfair for the majority of the player base to talk about legendary armor on page 22 of a raid cdi (I think it deserves its own cdi).

any how my thoughts are thus on legendary armor:

I think that statement was what made people mad about ascended armor being added to the game in the first place because at launch you had exotics and they were supposed to be the bis.

On this same thread the sat switching should be added to ascended armor for the very reason that legendary were suppose to be just a unique looking skins like how prestigious armor in gw1 worked.

  • Can this legendary armor be obtained anywhere else in the game?

Yes you should be able to get it any place in the game Is also a huge reason why ascended armor is a problem in the game the ways you can get it are from extremely rare rng drops or from crafting it which is not something wvw players necessarily want to be doing (most of them want to be playing wvw)

  • How do we prevent the introduction of Legendary armor from invalidating players who spent a lot of time/money crafting their Ascended armor?

Make ALL Ascended armor be the precursor to legendary this allows for precursor crafting for legendary armor and also reduces the rng involved in getting it.

as per the second question nope it should be acquirable anyplace in the game a wvw player should not have to do raids to be able to get legendary armor.

1. Guild halls for everyone! I thin every guild should get a extremely basic guild hall with little to no effort even if its just a empty instance. with one npc to interact with to start progression (if progression isn’t in the guild window)

2. progression and customization I would love to see everyone start off with a shanty guild hall space that thew progression they can customize to fit there needs I feel that these to aspects go hand and hand. and the more progression you do the better hall you get (my thoughts on progression is that it takes elements from all aspects of the game dungeons, fractals, living world, wvw, pvp, ect.) and that the progression system leads to customization. maybe even expand the guild mission system to include these other game types all the wile lowering the cost of acquiring the ability to run guild missions for smaller guilds.

3.any system that promotes guildys working together to help the guild progress

this heart has no objectives that can be completed wile the flame legion portal is open and no events are active. my suggestion is to add a interact object (like flame legion Intel or flame legion idols) for the player to destroy so you can complete this heart with out having to wait for an event or for the event chain to restart.

As long as ascended weapons get the same stat + sigil swap as well.

Ascended is only for ‘best stats’. Legendaries are the only weapons that have (and should only have) stat swapping abilities – it is, after all, one of the perks… that, and their animations.

You wouldn’t expect ascended armor to have stat swapping abilities. I would if it were legendary armor though. It’s the least it should have.

I’m sorry you’re ill, Chris. Rest well and ingest those things that will help you feel better.

For the rest of us we may want to ease up on posting in here today unless another dev or assistant is going to be in to guide things a bit? Or there’ll be a ton to catch up on just as Chris is trying to overcome his illness.

I do think this phase has pretty much run its course. Though some QoL/Logistics discussion is still going on (interesting banner ideas above), mostly we’ve been on Guild Halls which is the next phase and probably needs its own thread kicked off soon.

Other devs are still reading the thread even if they are not posting. and some good new ideas are still being posted but there have been alot of repeats which I guess indicates want of that feature.

Proposal Overview
Allow gw1 style guild guesting.

Goal of Proposal

  • allow non members access to a future guild hall or just the guild tag/bank
  • allow for guild members to test out players who would may or may not be a fit for there guild.

Proposal Functionality

  • in the guild ui when representing a guild you would be able for a small fee maybe 5 silver to invite outside players
  • Add a cap so you could just invite tons of people
  • add a new rule/rank set for guests so access to the guild could be limited
  • allow them access to your guild hall (if and when this is added).
  • Allow for removing guests access
  • allow for guild leader/other ranks to set who can invite/kick guests.
  • add an auto kick for guest users after x amount of set able hours

Associated Risks

  • spamming players
  • guild leaders /officers might confuse a guest invite with a real invite.
  • if guild permissions are not set correctly could cause problems
    • like guests stealing items from banks

Proposal Overview
Make the roster tab for your currently active guild the default view when you open the guild UI.

Goal of Proposal
The current UI, with two views of membership (Main and Roster) is quite confusing. Members often don’t realize the second, “Roster” tab is there, so they don’t know additional information and functionality is available on the Roster tab. If you’re not in multiple guilds, the distinction between the Main and Roster tab is baffling.

Proposal Functionality
Ideally, I’d like to see the two tabs consolidated into one, but if that is not feasible, then at least make the roster of your currently active guild the default view. Add some text to the “Main” tab that clarifies what it is for, perhaps at the top of the guild list column.

Associated Risks
Players who switch between their guilds frequently probably would not approve.

I would rather it open to the last tab you had open.

Proposal Overview

Total Removal of ‘Influence’ as a currency.

Goal of Proposal

The whole ‘100% rep or boot’ concept is built around building up influence in order to purchase guild boosts and upgrades. In a multi-guild system this creates two tiers of guilds, the haves and the have nots.

If the concept of sharing the influence you earn between all your guilds is so hard for a lot of players to deal with, then let’s just remove influence all together.

Proposal Functionality

Guilds would receive a set amount of credits per day based on the number of members in the guild. I’m going to call them credits simply to differentiate between this system and influence as it exists now. The credits could still be ‘called’ influence in game though.

These daily credits could be used in exactly the same way as influence, to purchase upgrades and boosts, perhaps along with a slightly extended build time. Guilds could also purchase credits using gold if they so wished.

Associated Risks

1. The fact that the current large “100% rep only” guilds might feel thaty they are getting a nerf, although this system could be balanced based on preventing that.

2. Guilds could hang on to members who have stopped playing in order to gain credits from them. This could be resolved by adding an activity element .e.g. credits are awarded when a member logs on each day.

what would smaller guilds do?

also I would rather have it so every guild that I am in gets a split of the influence I gain instead, this would make people to join guilds and remove the 100% rep requirement at the same time.

About taxing players, here’s my idea:

how would u prevent guild leaders/officers trolling guild members and requiring high amounts of gold or high tier items as a tax?

how would you prevent taxes from just being the guild leaders personal piggy bank? (ie skimming off the top or flat out using the income for personal gain)

how would having a guild tax allow you to get things for your guild that you are not able to get with influence?
why not have the influence system expanded to allow for guilds to be able to get the items that you want to be able to get with taxes ?

personally I would leave any guild that required taxes if taxes were added to the game.

Chris,

While I am super hyped that ANET is serious about future guild content, I do have serious ideas about implementation with the Gem Store. This topic briefly delves into future Guild enhancement ideas and the most important point, implementation. After all, Guild Wars 2 is in this to make money and Gems is the means of making that money. I feel that the Gem store falls short of being great, and it has huge room for improvement especially with the potential upcoming changes. Specifically, I feel it falls short in: GUI, content, and longevity of items sold. I’ll elaborate below.

The gem store, to me, feels cluttered and random. The tabs along the top are not very specific and the content on those tabs are pretty randomly organized. The tabs would be organized much better as a condensed list down the side (similar to the new TP).

These are all great Ideas but I would rather they not all be centralized to the gemstone (like a lot of the new armors off topic sorry) its important to be able to play the game and be able to unlock content for progression. so for some of these things I would rather see them in game and tied to either meta events or dungeons or jumping puzzles or wvw or pvp.

The risk is that it will make guilds that didn’t have strict rep requirements, have them.

I also think that rep requirements (which is the main reason you want this) is something that should just be changed or removed. it goes counter to wanting to allow players to be in more then one guild at a time.

Since percentage representation is something decided on by guilds and guild leaders, it’s not something that can ‘just be changed or removed’.

I absolutely don’t require 100% rep in my guild, but I see a ton of them that do.

However, this change wouldn’t really change that. I kick people if they haven’t played the game in 5 weeks. I’d prefer to be able to give them a courtesy mail if they haven’t represented the guild in that amount of time, and ask if they’re still interested in being part of the guild.

The base of why guilds want people to rep is so guilds can get guild influence. So to go along with when I said it needs to be changed/removed, a idea someone already detailed is to make it so you generate influence for all of the guilds you are in. Instead of just the guild you have represented. Other wise the rep requirement, is just there so your guild can be seen in the game world which is important to show that you have a prescience in game but it isn’t something that people should be kicked or removed because of.

QoL Proposal

Guild Message of the Day appearing in the chat window (upon login AND upon switching guilds so that all Guild MotDs appear in the chat window).

There are no drawbacks to this. Only less headaches for leaders so they dont have to explain to guildies that, “Yes, in fact there are guild missiobns tonight like it says in the MotD!”. My custom arena shows my message of the day in chat. Why doesn’t my guild message of the day do so?

Some of the downsides to this:

  • chat spam for reping more then one guild
    • also dose it display the message every time you switch characters?
  • no ability to turn off seeing guilds messages of the day with out leaving the guild.

Guys, PLEASE think about ways in which your proposals could:

  • Hurt existing players by forcing them to change behavior
  • Be exploited or abused
  • Change the game balance by being excessively rewarding or unrewarding

It’s fun to think “I have the best idea ever and there’s nothing wrong with it and everybody will love it and it won’t do anything bad only good yaaaaay!” but that’s rarely the case.

some wise designer once told me that the difference between a good designer and a great one is if you can come up with ideas and then be able to look at your idea and figure out the risks/downsides to the idea you proposed.

Make guilds actually be useful. Right now guilds are scattered….don’t matter that much and have no impact on the player other then chat. Main reason behind this in my opinion is the ability to be in multiple guilds at the same time. I personally don’t like this because in most cases it makes players not be loyal to a guild they joined or encourages spying. There should be consequences for either leaving a guild OR for being in multiple to discourage these types of behavior.

Honestly i don’t see any.

my take on risks:

  • time gating being in other guilds, would then frustrate players who were not right for a guild but want to be in a new one but cant because of time gating
  • removes the option of being in different guilds that focus on different things
    • examples of this: pvp, wvw, pve guilds.
  • the log of past guilds- this would encourage exclusivity
    • might add guilds that require that you have been in X guild for x amount of days.

Title: Guild Missions

Proposal Overview: A QoL Change to the overall system of the Guild missions.

Goal of Proposal: Allow small/medium size or guilds without a current large representation participate in the events.

Proposal Functionality:
Our Guild is small with only a few daily active members of our 20 or so roster. So the Guild Missions as they currently exist are just not something we can participate in. The Missions take more of an active force then we can muster. Now I understand that some missions should require large groups to be successfully completed and that is just fine but we many Guilds, are not all cut from the same cloth.
There should be some things that the small and medium sized guilds can do to contribute to the grand guild brotherhood.
Yes I know there is Guild Bounty Training but that does not yield any Merits only influence. If we need to contribute influence, we can currently just buy it.

Guild Alliances Would be a possible way to circumvent the current mission feature but I think that Alliances fall more under New Content not QoL or Logistics so I will reserve further iteration until we get to the New Content Phase.

Associated Risks: There would have to be some sort of scaling system put in place so that the Large guilds could not take advantage of doing a mission slotted for a Smaller guild.

Sorry I don’t have more to contribute on this one but as I don’t do them, I just don’t have much to suggest.

I wanted to bring this topic up as well because the gating for a lot of the guild influence stuff is alot harder on smaller guilds. the downside to having it scale to the amount of players is that if you are in a large guild and want to have everything unlocked all you would have to do is kick 60-70% of your roster and then get the upgrades with the smallest amount I guess the best way around this would be to attach it to the guild size increases that people need to buy but even then you could run into the same problem of people holding off joining until all the major upgrades are completed.

I hope this isn’t the case, its cool that broham has that connection with eir but if rox and rytlock have it as well it would cheapen the story between eir and broham because its almost the same story. maybe if the mother of rox is someone rytlock loved but couldn’t be with for xyz reason. create a fast and easy way to schedule guild events without having to send out mail or whispers to your guild.

Proposal Functionality
Under the guild window there would be a calendar tab with a plan blank calendar

  • ability to add events
    • date and time info along with ingame waypoint or poi
    • ability to have the event span across more than one day
    • ability to have events repeat like when make up guild missions take place ect.
  • rank options for who can add, remove, edit and view
  • option to be able to be mailed a summary (per player so if a player wants to opt out of it they can)
  • option to turn on anet events ( things like feature patch updates or pvp/wvw tournament starts)

Associated Risks

  • spam
  • inappropriate language or events added
  • conflicting events with other guilds (note that every guild would have there own and other guilds would not be able to see them unless you were a member of that guild)

Wizard's Tower In Kessex Hills. New dungeon?

I highly doubt this castle will become a dungeon. If you look on the map you will see the castle is quite small. It would probably be a 5 second dungeon where you just walk in kill a boss and walk out.

it is a ‘wizards tower’, and you never know it might ‘be bigger on the inside’ #drwhoreference…

Visteri, I wanted to pop back in and let you know that we loved your drink ideas so much that we presented a few of them to the staff at Gordon Biersch for our PAX Meet and Greet Saturday night.

Hopefully you’ll enjoy hearing that Experimental Ooze Booze and Nature’s Renewal were on the menu Saturday night, and they were a big hit with those who attended! Toward the end of the evening, Ooze Booze was off the menu because so many Guild Wars 2 players wanted to try it that the ingredients ran out.

So from all of us: Thank you for the inspiration!

I was at said awesome party and had a delicious Ooze booze it was great!!

Tell me this. Why, in your opinion, are folks so enamored with the Mursaat?

my obsession with the Mursaat is 2 fold:

1. they where guarding the Door of Komalie because they knew what the titans were about, and were trying to protect tyira and stop the player and the lich from opening said door (so in a way they were actually good guys never quite redeemed or recognized for that fact imho)

2. gold wigged floaty magic creatures how cool is that… also the unseen fighting the seers… (I see wut you guys did thar in gw1..)

Bonus reason:
‘Rata Sum’ is an anagram of ‘Mursaat’ and I <3 anything to do with the asura…

On topic I love the idea that all pc sylvaris wild hunts are to fight dragons as everyone has mentioned when she is talking about the dragon in the dream she dosnt call it zitain she says “Avatar of the Tree: In your Dream, you fought an Elder Dragon face-to-face. Only two of my children have had such a dream. You, and Caithe.” she could have said Zhaitan there but she didn’t she said elder dragon. also the way that she says it to me comes off as multiple dragons not just one.

Asura Animations & Visual Effects are Broken

Thanks for reporting this! This looks like a scaling issue where the effect is scaling the character’s size but the skill itself is not scaling. A fix for this will require some design work so I can’t say a whole lot in regards to when it could be fixed.

While a respect this honest answer, I’m really concernd that we didn’t even get a "soon™ ".

I wish I could say soon™. But this is a pretty interesting issue to address.

Easy fix:
Just make that if you enter a pvp match, you automatically get transformed into a human character, so no issues anymore (for the time you are in this match). Like when you use a tonic or so.
And btw I want an option for myself to let everyone be shown in a pvp match as a human so I finally can see the animations of the Freaking asuras and norn mesmers stop destroying my view…

How would this idea handle things like cultural armors? Won’t turning everyone into humans cause a loss of uniqueness in the game? Every player has specific facial adjustments, body types, heights, armor colors, and weapons; what happens to these?

based on the ‘box of fun’, anet seems to have the ability to change a characters size so instead of changing everyone to human just make everyone the same size.

They’re not permanently gone (probably) , but they will be off the vendor for quite a while. Long enough i wouldn’t even hazard a guess at a bring-back date.

Like any store, we’ll be regularly rotating out sets that are out of season or not popular to keep the vendor from overloading too many tabs.

why not just have a living story season 1 npc and then living story season 2 npc for the new weapons?

I believe there was originally a thread for the armor part of the Wardrobe change (technically this is just the Town Clothes/Outfits thread) but it’s probably buried and this one is still pretty darned active, so I don’t blame you for not noticing! It might have been answered in that thread.

And honestly I’m more worried that they’re going to start making it so only characters who chose that biography option can use a given biography skin, given that we used to turn them into account-bound items from soulbound items by using the way Transmutation Stones and white-rarity items interact, so it wasn’t really part of what they intended for us to be able to do. And since they don’t care how we actually used Town Clothes and are trying to make them do what they intended them to do no matter how much we liked what they actually did… I think they might consider “what ANet intends” to win out over “what we liked to do with what we were given.”

i like the idea of adding the downstate to the lord, and remove the ability to banner except in the downstate (just like players). couple that with making hard rezzing fully defeated players or npcs out of combat only and things get a lot more interesting and fun for both sides imo.

This is the best solution imho because it teaches players that npcs have the same mechanics as players and that you dont have to relearn how to play around key npcs.

Easy correction to generate my vote

Server-stacking and coverage war is non-sense, and has nothing to do with competition. ANet only makes another competition to earn some money from more transfers. Now that queues resulting from overstacking are no longer a problem, really everyone should go to the same server.

^ basically this I would much rather wait to see what anets solution to that problem is, then play for ~8 weeks again, just to have the servers with coverage get a reward for having said coverage.

While account-bound World XP was originally intended to go live along with EotM, the highly anticipated change will not be making it into next week’s release. Carver said that ArenaNet is still working out some kinks with it and that the WvW team will have more information for players soon.

Last year though, they said that dueling was a low priority, wasn’t in development and custom arenas could be used.

If I am not mistaken the page in question is the: ‘Upcoming changes and features’ page so as you said its not something in development so that’s why it was removed.

The note was removed because it had no areananet source. If you have a link to a interview or video or blog post or forum post that talks about how they will be adding dueling then they will re add the note.

I would rather hear directly from a dev, then second had from someone anet hired to speak in front of a live stream. but a little more professionalism would have helped.

Things I think they could improve:

  • Talk directly to the camera
    • unless they want the format to be a conversation in which case change it to sitting on couches around a coffee table.
  • Instead of a slide show put them directly in the game or use lions arch or other city skylines as a backdrop (they could go down the server list)
  • Reduce the amount of people any more then 4 is too many.
  • Always have them in guild wars related clothing.

I am not current on the 22 pages of this thread but I have an idea after reading the dev responses : what if you changed the map cap system to be dynamic where it starts off as a lower set number and then once all the maps have reached that cap it increases until it reaches the current max map cap so then every side has the same amount of people at any given time. thus making it so no one server can have more numbers with in reason at any given time. (this would have to be something that came about after the edge of the mists was implemented.)

This idea basically boils down to

  • The lowest pop server in the match up, sets the map cap for the other two servers.
    • so if the lowest pop server in the match up some how makes it so there are queues then every server could have queues.

Jumping Puzzle Feedback [Merged]

Just thought we should start a feedback thread so we can tell ANet what we liked/didn’t like about the new jumping puzzle and suggestions for future jumping puzzles because I have seen multiple threads about this for very specific parts of them.

First off, I like the timed jumping puzzles.
It makes them more intense to get them right as fast as possible.
I also like constant freeze damage so you cant just take it nice and slow so you have to run it literally for your life.
I will say that it wasn’t as hard as the Mad King Clock Tower so ANet, MAKE THEM HARDER!!!!
Something I can complete in 5mins is not hard enough
Don’t listen to the people who say they are too hard. They are just not putting in the time or effort and solely want the rewards for it so they can get their weapon/armor skins.
For me, the challenge is a big part of the reward.

So in short from me, Harder Jumping Puzzle = Better Jumping Puzzle.

making something like a jumping puzzle timed doesn’t make it harder it just makes it require more luck.
