No its not, Dawdler has it right about ESO. The ESO design is clearly superior.

Design doesn’t help much if the game is about as responsive as a drunk elephant chained to the bottom of the ocean for many players.

I’m really not following how this is ANet’s fault, nor problem. ANet doesn’t control the market, we do. If Tailoring is so expensive that’s not ANet’s fault it’s ours. That’s what supply and demand means. Obviously the demand for cloth is high, therefore it’s expensive.

And why exactly is there more demand ?

1. Bolts of Damask are used in all types of armour, whereas metal and leather are only required for heavy and medium armour respectively. Both heavy and medium armour sets actually use up more Bolts of Damask than Deldrimor Steel Ingots and the leather squares.

2. Crafting a Bolt of Damask takes substantially more primary raw materials ( i.e. silk scraps ) than the corresponding items of the other crafts.

Last I checked ANet designed the recipes. Unless that changed very recently, it is indeed their fault and their fault alone for fiddling with demand both on the raw material level and on the intermediate product level.

It’s still better to use Leatherworking but, Bolts of Damask should come down in price. Have you noticed the volume of clothes that are within the bags? After all the complaints over the scarcity of cloth in game, I think it finally sunk in

So far I got about the same rate of cloth drops as farming dungeons and temples. Meaning it would still take about 6-8 hours of straight farming to fill the quota for the daily bolt of damask.

I’ve been running the same for quite a while a now and I don’t think the 0/20/0/20/30 is that uncommon amoung WvW regulars. There just aren’t that many of them amidst the legions of warriors and guardians.

I don’t really understand what ANet is trying to accomplish.

Crit nerf is supposed to be part of a larger package consisting of changes to game mechanics, classes and content. Considering the way ANet’s balance team works it’s gonna take at least a year for all of those to hit live servers though and there’ll be quite a few classes stuck between a rock and a hard place for extended periods until then.

Good news for Necros is it can’t get that much worse when it comes to dungeons anyway.

I used the LFG tool today, joined a party for CM story and at the end of the dungeon the party leader leaves right before we get the reward. No level up and no gold.
These trolls are getting annoying.

And exactly how is that related to the lfg tool. ? The very same thing could happen to a group formed by using gw2lfg or the ingame chat in Lion’s Arch.

If you can let go of the notion of the Ranger as a long distance nuker with a tank pet ( aka bow/bear suckiness ), the class does reasonably well in dungeons. Combining good dps and some useful support in one build is easier than for quite a few other classes.

If you want might, look into a HGH or Enhanced Performance build. No amount of might can make staying in FT to get the might stacks from Juggernaut worthwhile.

Ok, I’m sorry I was kinda a kitten to you with my reply, but I was somewhat offended that instead of offering helpful criticism or asking questions about how my build works you told me my build was kitten and I should run bombs instead.

He’s got a point though. FT is bad, really really bad. You can use it to tag stuff in defensive troll builds, but that’s about it. Even with high power and might stacks the damage is just abysmal and the two CCs are ok, but not great.

If you only hop in and out of FT you also don’t want to trait for Juggernaut. It’s only useful if you actually stay in FT for a while.

The Wood and Mithril for the daily ingot and wood peg can be farmed in about half an hour. Farming 100 silk will take substantially longer and on top of that there is much more demand for the damask bolts because they’re so overused in recipes.

The combination of the two makes it pretty obvious that the current price disparities are not just a minor market hickup and won’t work themselves out.

Advice?

With only Cleansing Burst to deal with conditions in what is essentially a melee build, you’ll have to run in a tightly organised group or you’ll die a million horrible deaths.

It’s not even so much about the damage conditions. All the cripples, immobilizes, chills, etc. flying around in a larger scale battle will leave you exposed to the melee burst and further CC of the two most populous classes in WvW though and let’s just say you don’t want that to happen, ever.

If you don’t have some pocket Guards and Warriors, the build needs a better way or more ways to deal with that kind of conditions. And when I say need I mean need, or it won’t work. Linc’s link with the minus condition duration traits, food and runes is a good place to start and as a bonus most of it works on damaging conditions as well.

You can combine both in a 0/20/0/20/30 build for example and that’s very effective in zerg WvW play. If dungeons are your top priority, you should roll one of the classes more useful in that kind of content though to be honest.

Outside of the weekend Elona has no nighttime coverage at all anymore, in Gold League that means automatic last spot pretty much and SFR focusing us just speeds up the inevitable.

tl;dr version:

In solo PvE everything works, Necro in pretty much any spec is fine.

In sPvP and WvW roaming condi Necro is strong, other specs poor.

In zerg WvW power well mancer is strong, other specs poor.

In dungeons d/d power Necro is kinda ok, all other specs suck kitten .

In zerg PvE ( i.e. ) living story all specs are kinda meh, but as long as you get a few hits in it doesn’t matter.

If dungeons are a priority for you, I’d not recommend the class. Otherwise you can make it work, even though you may have to spend some more effort than others.

I have been wondering why you can’t damage a wall without siege but you can damage “Metal” Cannons Oil Gates etc

Because keeps and fortresses would be almost impossible to take otherwise unless you have a huge advantage in numbers. Defense is very strong already if the attacked side actually bothers to show up.

Currently they lack incentives to do so, but that’s another issue entirely.

Cannons and oil being vulnerable to siege only would just strengthen the Vizunah-style ( i.e. PvD at night and bunker in the keeps and towers during the day ) even more and I think we can all agree that wouldn’t be a boon to WvW.

A few more options would really have made a difference. If you don’t want to do the annoying JPs, you have to complete all the other achievements and some of them are a pain.

Engineers can provide a bit of everything, great.

But why is that needed? It isn’t.

Yup, right on the money.

I could certainly come up with some highly hypothetical scenario in which my group would require a little bit of this and a little bit of that all the time.

I’d rather stick to the content we have when evaluating classes though. In that content, being a jack of all trades isn’t much of a useful quality.

Yes, a competent Engineer can be a valuable group member, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.

I’m much more worried about yet another AoE cleanse, one that is available to every player at that. Condition builds already stack up poorly against power builds in WvW ( outside of solo roaming ) due to mass cleanses being easy to fit into strong builds on popular classes. Add even more condition removal and bringing a condition build will be entirely pointless.

This better be restricted to the live story PvE content.

By now it should be rather obvious that excessive amounts of ingredients required to craft anything but trivial items is intentional and in fact part of the design philosophy. Considering ANet seem to do just fine regarding active player numbers and revenue that is unlikely to change any time soon.

That leaves you two options, pay up or pass on the item.

Boss event is pretty much the worst design imaginable. If you’re not in exactly the right spot when she spawns, you’re screwed, no matter how much you contributed before.

And adding more HP will just lower the percentage of screwed people a little.

ANet need to add a wind up mechanic or something so people have time to get there.

It really is that simple. Balance in that area has been terrible from the start with little to no improvements so far and changes are designed around sPvP/tPvP exclusively.

At this point, they have freed us up for more sensical buffs (SA already is insanely strong at fighting burst, and its CD is more reasonable than every 10 seconds), and it is blatantly obvious we need it.

When will they come though ? In another year, or maybe two ?

I really am liking this build and i appreciate you sharing it with the community. One question i have is why the sigil of blood? If it has a cd of two secs is the health that procs from it really worth it?

Not on it’s own, in combination with the health siphon from the blood magic tree it helps though. This seems to be a general rule of thumb in GW2: One life steal proc/trait/ability alone will be nigh useless, you have to use them in combination.

Just a friendly reminder for those going after Melandru runes.

Use a karma booster before chugging those jugs, if you need more than you have on your character.

The outnumbered buff in WvW will give you another 50% ( ? large one anyway) boost.

I’m not much of a fan of going deep into Death Magic in a wells build tbh. Other than the 25 points one the minor traits are completely useless and toughness can be sufficiently fine tuned by equipment. So you’re spending 25 points for faster staff skill recharge and +boon duration…Not a great investment imo.

Depending on where you want to go with the build these points might be more useful elsewhere, personally I put them into improving DS as that synergizes well with the power/crit focus the build already has and it can fill the gaps when wells and Plague Form are on cd.

I do agree though that going for Close to Death probably is not worth it either in a wells build and that Chilling Darkness is almost mandatory for heavy Plague users in WvW.

I feel utterly Ripped Off.

I main necro and im leveling an engineer at the moment. from playing ALOT as a necro and my limited time on engineer I can confirm necro will not become superior to engineer due to the addition of burning.

the amount of situations ive survived as an underlevel in WvW as a bomb engie weaving through zergs that I wouldn’t have had a chance to survive on my necro (fully geared with some ascended gear too) are countless.

engineers are the durable condition class. necromancer is MUCH more fragile and stacks conditions slower than engie (necro has better bleed application)

If you have survivability problems as a Necro in WvW zerg situations you need to reevaluate your build and playstyle. Plague Form alone will ensure me being one of the last guys standing even if things go badly for our side and I don’t even use a defensive build.

Roaming solo or in a small group is a different matter, the non-existant options to disengage really hurt there.

Wut ? People on the German servers play like 99.999999999999% from central Europe, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Or is this some sort of irony troll post ? EU English servers suck because very few of them have a WvW playerbase commited to the server – Deso, Blacktide, etc. were successful only when they were the fotm transfer target destination.

Considering their comparatively small numbers AM and RS were quite active outside of their keeps, much more so than Vizu, Jade Sea and the kings of PvD and bunkering during the day, Baruch Bay.
