I honestly don’t understand the combo. Are you meant to hit twice on one target then leap to another? Hit twice and leap to a third (or back to the first?). It is by far the clunkiest weapon I have seen.. it’s like they developed it in beta and it’s been ignored while the rest of the game got polished.
I don’t know how you guys can even use it.
Wut? No, why would you even think that?
It’s to tie your target down and make it easier for your pet to hit. The leap means that if they evade you still stay locked on.
Signet of Stone is pretty nice actually, I can get around 2300 toughness in a bunker sPVP build and it’s kinda nice when I’m running a more ’zerker spec because I can still get 1400 thoughness.
Not bad at all.
Frankly, a confusion nerf can only be a good thing for me. The only class that bothers me in my shortbow build was one that could stack confusion.
14 to 20k with kill shot
7k with mug
0 relying on shoddy ai
Good luck hitting me with that, ever.
I always love seeing warriors getting ready to kill shot when I’m on my staff ele, my Mesmer, my engi, or my ranger while using axe/axe… So essentially everything I play! Oh reflect how I LOVE you…
I seriously think I chuckle everytime I see a warrior get on one knee….
This.
Daemon,
I’ll take your word for it, however the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-H1zpdg7dU tells a whole different story. That warrior didn’t seem easy to kill, in fact his >33k kill shots were..
Please. Killing a warrior is like beating up a small child. I honestly have to double take when I see one mentioned in a positive light in regards to them killing rangers.
(edited by capuchinseven.8395)
The longer the battle drags on the better for a ranger.
This, too many people trying to force the Ranger class into something it isn’t simply because they think it should be.
Even in a damage spec, for PVP, we’re better off out lasting the enemy rather than trying to burst it down.
Meh…internetz…
I see you wont stop spaming here, so ill take my leave.
To devs- please reconsider drakes F2 cast times and range.
To Sebrent- I hope we meet on field or in PvP. Frapse never lie.
What a dumb, pointless, chest thump reply because you couldn’t get your own way in the space of 3 posts.
We’re discussing epistemology now? Guys, it’s really simple: play a lvl 80 Ranger, then play a tier 1 profession and see the light.
shrug, play a Thief and a Warrior, still come back to Ranger and still as a Ranger kill all other classes.
No one ever said the Ranger was so bad you can’t get kills but I can guarantee a person of equal skill across all three professions will kill faster and more efficiently with both the thief and warrior over the ranger.
And when it comes to WvW, the mesmer, elementalist and guardian are so much better that it’s just not even a contest.
….
I just said I play a thief and a warrior, therefore I’ve already played those three classes with an equal skill level.
I’m at the point where I just have to roll my eyes at stuff like this now, I destroy warriors so hard it’s not even funny anymore, I feel bad for them.
I agree on your choice of using TU, even in my heavy regen spec I still run TU.
I just have no time for Hide in Plain sight, some seem to love it but whenever I see a Ranger I had targeted stealth and then come back I just roll my eyes and carry on killing it.
In a large zerg, maybe I’d be annoyed if I had to find my target again, maybe.

What would you do to someone that is able to be immune to your projectiles for 14s.
What I do most of the time anyway, swap to sword and perma snare them with a blurry jumping kick and slash blender.
Your heal is Withdraw, which adds to your lovely amount of evades you already have. This heal also cures Immobilize, Chill, and Cripple Now throw in 6x Superior Rune of the Adventurer, and this 15s heal gives you a TON OF ENDURANCE to keep dodging.
All of that, and I still get stealth with CnD.
What was it you were saying again? <scratches head>
Love Withdrawal, would kill for that on Ranger with Runes of Adventurer. No idea why I don’t see it used more.
I kill elementalist all the time
Same, with huge amounts of vigor and wvades, don’t get the big deal over them. Of course if they want to get away, without a greatsword they pretty much can and it’s pretty hard for me to stop them.
Yes removing poison is okay, but given the amount of points I have to put into it to get it it’s just not worth it to me. Removing cripple on the other than, that would be worth it.
As it is, it’s fine, just not for the amount of points I have to spend to get it.
The thing is I’m not that sure we need this, I have no problem that I can think of where I’d want either a trap or mud of evasion. I WOULD use evasive purity if it cured bleeding, THAT would be worth having, but I gave EP a long try for a while and it’s just not worth it, poison just doesn’t bother me that much, that often and blind really isn’t that big of a deal that I’d want to go all the way to grandmaster in the NM tree.
If it removed bleed though, I’d take it in a shot.
Ha I’m dumb, I’ve just noticed some of you are talking about ATTACK, not power. My mistake our stats are not that far off.
I’m dumb.
(edited by capuchinseven.8395)
I’m going to guess I’m going to get nerfed rofl..
Maybe, although they made it clear they didn’t want to over buff pets with things like AOE reduction because they can duo or solo end game bosses (the argument that warriors can already do this doesn’t stand up, just because one class is broken in that respect doesn’t mean that you make another one broken to keep up) but it could mean they are willing to reduce AOE damage in WvW which would be helpful because I’m sick of my pet standing in a pool of AOE and dying because I had no where to move and pet swap was already on cooldown because the last pet was also stood in a pool of AOE.
Could mean nothing though, who knows.
Hmm your builds are very different to mine but it’s interesting to see your stats, makes me wonder if I can keep my crit at 50% and up my power at the expense of some toughness.
Although then I come back to the same old question, do I leave my power as it is and bring my critical chance up instead.
It actually seems to come down to this, do I use sharpening stones or do I use maintenance oil, that’s what I can’t seem to decide over.
I think given the difference between 50% and 60% critical chance, I’d see more overall damage by upping my power from 2000 to 2300 instead.
It’s be nice, but we already can gain protection on dodge and we can dodge a LOT. Not really sure that this is somewhere we have an issue to be honest.
That said if they threw us a bone I wouldn’t mind.
I run with ~2950 attack, 60critical chance with food and 57-58 (depends if SB or Duals) critical damage.
In my opinion no condition build has damage comparsion to it. It simply hits more.
My guess is that you’re running a glass cannon build though given you have the best of both worlds with power and critical chance, my build runs high toughness so I can’t get both up to those amounts.
I’ve been running a few builds with my shortbow trying to work out the best place for power and critical.
I’ll often run 2000 power and 50% chance to critical and before I put things into a spreadsheet I was wondering how others felt.
I could run around 2250 power and 40% chance to critical or I could run around 1800 power and around 65% chance to critical, I was wondering if any others had done similar workings lately?
shrug, Thieves really are not much of a bother, they they work well for a team because they become troublesome if you’re dealing with someone else, Wolves and Hyena’s can help with that though, you deal with the other player and try and leave your knockingdown (or other CC pet) dealing with the stealth jumping thief, not a perfect tactic but it can be useful.
Oh I know there are many on here that love to pretend thieves are goldy but with almost perma’ vigor and sword and dagger renders them impotent if you learn their stealth times or just simply time their stealth burst with your dodge/protection. The key to surviving their opening burst is Natures Protection and often a CC break.
Not sure any class one on one is outside of a few decent confusion Mesmer’s which can screw with my fast hitting shotbow, a much of an issue.
What’s your build, what your main issue with them? A glass cannon ranger is not a good match up to beat glass cannon thieves. That aside, as said above a decent thief in a group is where they are really going to shine, I’ll use my sword thief to keep darting about not really attacking in my group and then when someone is around half health I’ll shadowstep in with Infiltrators Strike, burst hard with Flanking Strike and some #1 hits, then shadow step away again outside of the melee mob.
(edited by capuchinseven.8395)
Yeah root needs to be removed for sure (and leap), but I think the sword already has 2 decent evade skills, no need for an auto attack evade on top of that.
Dropping the root would destroy the sword for those of us that have managed to get the point of the weapon. If you want a cripple sword attack without the root, roll a sword thief, it’s not meant not be like other sword attacks.
1 handed sword is just great as it is, my entire build is based around it, players on one of our enemy servers named me the dodgy ranger I’ve been told, if I had anymore evades I’d be insane, I already get hate tells from thieves telling me I’m exploiting in sPVP.
I do that with endurance management, wisely knowing when to evade and when to not bother, and then supplementing my high endurance gain with sword dodges, it’d just be broken and OP if I could dodge even more just by pressing 1.
(edited by capuchinseven.8395)
…and you press Steal and it just… does it…?
That’s what should happen when I press F2 on my pet, no long animation for a wolf fear and then they’re out of range (if it even works at all), no flapping around and around and around before my bird bothers to attack, it should just work.
You can’t have a PVP game where burst or CC randomly might, kinda, sometimes, sorta’ happen. I get that you don’t want pets pointing and shooting and locking onto targets and hitting like trucks, totally unavoidable, but if we press F2 we should get F2.
Simple.
Question for Feaux and Deamhan: Nature Magic III “Nature’s Bounty [NM]”- Regeneration you apply lasts 33% longer); What specifically does this trait extend??
It does exactly what it says, it extends regeneration that you apply wich can be from traits, runes or healing spring to yourself, pets or other players, in his case from the minor natures magic trait and runes of dwayna.
Wow that really cleared it up a single sentence vague generalization. Do you even bother to read full posts? The trait applies in some cases of regen and not others (that is the whole point of examination/clarification that seems to be lost on you).
….?
It applies in all cases of regeneration. If the heal isn’t the regeneration boon then it doesn’t apply, simple.
Several encounters which were cut away from. It’s a burst montage rather than a show of robust builds. He has no stun breaker so the moment he gets caught on a stun with a zerg he’s screwed. Same if he came across any thief that can land a mug/daze into basilisk. He had around 16k hp, probably very little toughness so after he blew signet of stone he could be bursted down in one sequence by a mesmer or thief.
The big burst buttons as well were long cooldowns like signet of the wild, and most of his opponents didn’t even dodge maul, which has a blatant animation before it lands.
What happens when the d/d ele mist forms/armor of eath through his signet cooldowns? He dies after.
Well ain’t you a ray of sunshine.
Jeesh guys, no need to be kitten!
What build are you running Slic?
Lately for fun I’ve been using shortbow and longbow and honestly with a little more utility I think the longbow would be worth it for me. I’m finding this new build a lot of fun.
Of course I haven’t tested it cause I’ve retired from the Web of Lies and Deceptions. I’m sure it is a bug or nerf, perse’ and are plenty more of them hidden. I’m not too Surprised so shouldn’t you.
Your posts are really not useful, insightful or interesting.
You can’t use Troll Unguent and get perma regeneration.
Troll unguent stacks 8 seconds of regen on you on top of its heal (25s cooldown from Runes of Dwayna). Getting hit by a damaging condition gives you 8 seconds of regen (20s cooldown from traits). Going below 75% hp gives you 8 seconds of regen (30s cooldown from traits). 5% chance of gaining 16s regen from being hit (30s cooldown from Runes of Dwayna). 10s regen from fern hound (20s cooldown).
Runes of Dwayna are pretty handy. 20% regen duration from runes + 33% duration from traits + 10% regen duration from 10 points in nature magic gives an overall +63% duration bonus to all regenerations applied.
So, tell me… where does the perma regeneration not happen when you are in battle?
When the opponent has any form of boon stripping? You’re stacking cooldowns, but the boon is gone in one fell swoop.
A mesmer with boon removal on shatter alone will remove the regen faster than you can put it up.
It won’t remove TU which would still heal like a truck.
Yeah the travel use of it is mostly pointless I find, I would like the slight delay before the leap back gone as well.
Good points, but..
It seems a bit silly that you spend all that time just dodging (allowing your foe’s healing skill to recharge).
..? My dodging is done when I’m either locked down or being attacked by 4 or more people, that was the point of the videos. Yes Muddy Terrain is very good and wouldn’t say it isn’t, my traits are what I most often find useful for me.
It’s also a bit of a shame that you don’t use your sword to lock down your foe, when they try to escape.
..? I do, in the video alone I lock down an Engineer while a Warrior tries to attack me and have a number of videos of me doing the same, I didn’t say I use the sword for defence alone, I even say above I “drop to sword if I need to be defensive while my TU is on cooldown” and “I do go offensive with the sword” detailing my pet swap sword attack.
There are a few times when I could have locked someone down with sword #1 and didn’t but the few times I can think of, there was a reason I was trying to stay at range.
the warhorns swiftness would help you a lot more then a dagger.
I often use the warhorn, it’s very useful. If I’m showing off for videos though I prefer the dagger for the cripple and dodge.
I had that to begin with but I find it’s pretty weak without the 33% increased regens allowing it to stack up and you don’t have nearly as much mobility, I find it very hard to stay in it when you have multiple opponents, dodging like a monkey while using terrain is absolutely necessary sometimes and especially if you need to bolt when they are too many troll will often keep you alive where spring just wouldn’t be enough.
I agree, HS is very useful and I love the condition removal but without points in healing I find it too limiting and I can run TU with nothing in healing and it will still heal like a truck and leave me with my mobility.
It DOES leave me exposed to conditions though, I wouldn’t deny that. Exposed though, not totally vulnerable, EB will take the edge off and TU will heal through them.

Piercing Arrows and Sun Spirit is actually pretty awesome on a longbow when you’re running at very long range.
My build in action during sPVP, my power and critical chance is lower than in my W3 mode but healing is up to compensate. The build was also slightly different as it had pet swap haste as this was pre the latest patch.
Please note the trolling thief at the start who was utterly owned and out “evaded” when he tried to lock me down, and then claimed “lol wasting haste on a flag finish, noob”, totally not understanding our pet swap mechanic.
Sword is used more offensively in this video.
Again, these are just random videos, not my best moments or greatest fights (always forget to start the cam running on those, ha!) but some of my more interesting evade and dodge moments which is why I call it my Capuchin build.
Thanks for watching again.

Thing that annoys me about birds is that god awful Swiftness buff they do which its hilariously long animation time….Half the time i don’t even get the swiftness cause i’m already out of their range when chasing the target.
I don’t understand why Anet has decided our pets need long gaudy cast-times and animations…
Yeah it’s the main reason I can’t pick over birds and cats, I love birds, they look amazing but why they have to flap all over the place before they attack I will never know.
I keep the pet back and then as I move closer in I’ll tie someone up in a melee ball and then hit F2 for burst but the kitten bird just flaps around and around and around before it attacks.
I actually get the pets not hitting often, we can’t just point and shoot out pets, I get that, but the kitten animation times are just killing me here ANet.
Xsorus pretty much hit pets bang on the nail, F2 just doesn’t work. I keep wanting to run wolves and they just plain blow, hit F2, nothing happens, wait… wait… no nothing, hit it again AH there we go he howls, that’ll chill that thief… oh wait no it didn’t, by the time the animation played out he was gone and it was a waste.
I keep swapping to wolves and then jumping back to birds, at least I know where I am with birds.
Don’t get me started on waiting for the stack of 5 might from a cat that just seems incapable of getting it right.
I like the build, and I’m not a longbow hater I think you’re really over judging the longbow and how much it helps the group. I get that you like it though and it’s your thing, I just think your build would work better with a shortbow.
Second of all, it took awhile for blizzard to balance the classes, but when they did, they did it superbly.
L O L !
Lastly, I only need to state one fact for you. Warriors have better ranged skills than Rangers. Google it if you need to, kid. Now it’s my turn to laugh.
L O L !
I EAT ranged and melee warriors for lunch and breakfast. PLEASE do go on.
If you actually want a conversation, cut out the bull because you’re either making stuff up or you’re just plain bad, I’m sorry but that’s how it is dude.
I ran with a BM pet for sometime but you just end up hindering your damage when you can’t apply your pet to the zerg as easily. I moved away from it slowly, classes like Thieves and Elemental get a faceroll, “I suck so I’ll just smash my head on the keypad” get out of jail free card that they can just keep applying over and over when they screw up and we totally lack that so when you lower your survivability it gets a lot harder for Rangers.
It’s interesting though that a lot of classes moan about our pets and yet we also moan about our pets, the up side to a pet is that outside of the zerg they give us the highest range in the game by a huge amount, it’s always a way of splitting our damage, while I focus on hitting one target a bird can easily finish a down target that I can’t get to.
The only thing about my build that I hate is my cleansing, I think you could try out emphatic bond and see how it goes for you.
Can we get a heads up on this ANet? While we’re only a few people posting here many maybe can’t log onto the forums and post about it.
ISP problem? Traffic being blocked somewhere?
(edited by capuchinseven.8395)
Scratch that, can’t log in anymore. At a guess if I shut down my browser I won’t be able to get onto the forums either.
The perfect answer. I’ve been playing a Ranger since Guild Wars 1, and they’ve pretty much always sucked at everything.
lol!
WoW because they know how to balance classes.
LOL!
Warrior. They get improved frequently and outdo Rangers in pretty much every aspect. Not to mention, their survivability is around 3 times as better than a Ranger’s.
L O L !
Honestly guys, if you’re going to make things up at least TRY and make it believable.
Same problem, just had to restart my router (figured it would change the IP, which it did) then reauthorize my account. I can now get to the character screen but can’t get past that.
I’d agree with this, just too much info that I don’t need to know. Gimme a server name, shortened, that’s all I need.
Yes that’s pretty much it, when I’m offensive I run TU then drop to sword if I need to be defensive while my TU is on cooldown, with TU running I can go full balls out with my shortbow letting my 2000 toughness and TU take the edge of the incoming damage.
This will change depending on the situation and the enemy but that’s my general rule.
I do go offensive with the sword and I have a few sPVP videos of that but right now I’m re-thinking that as my main sword offensive tactic would be to lock on with sword #1 (the thing people hate about sword but I think is amazing) then hit pet swap F4 and then F2 for pet burst with my sword #1 hitting buffed from the quickness from the pet change. It’s like a blender of death.
BUT, quickness has suffered a nerf of course and I changed my build slightly.
Hope you don’t mind, I’ll add this in to the list of videos I’m compiling
Sure, not at all, go for it.
(edited by capuchinseven.8395)
The only thing my build misses is Piercing Arrows and it annoys me. Honestly I think that should be a class feature or a very low rank trait for us.
That’s very kind, I do make some mistakes though, I miss time a few evades/over assume their attack and evade where it’s not needed wasting an evade but then when it comes to evades it’s an art not always a science.
There were a few times when I could have finished someone faster and at one point two of us finish someone while I could have been attacking the other Elemental.
Main problem with Rangers I find is that when Elemental and Thieves screw up they have a face roll way out of it, we don’t so you have to be perfect everytime.
Like I said though, they are just random videos, not cherry picked just to show off my build, glad you enjoyed.
If you’re not happy playing ranger either leave the game or reroll, I’d support that 100%, but it’s a fact that you are being either very very naive or you’re very very new to MMOs.
It needs to be changed, period.
Opinion.
Being the only weapon in the game that you have to turn off autoattack to avoid deathtraps for is not acceptable.
Honest question, do you guys all play on T8 servers or something? Sometimes people just type things on the Ranger forums and I just honestly shake my head.
