GW1 is a completely different game mechanically, and a pretty solid one to boot. if you plan to just do the campaigns, it’s also rather solo-friendly (though i heard it’s still somewhat populated).
I dont know about population but I can attest to the solo-friendliness. The henchmen system worked decently but heroes made solo play pretty fun and you actually had a great deal of control over heroes.
One set that I wish I could have is Elite Charr Hide. Although I would imagine it would be awkward for Charr to wear it.

I want to know more about Abaddon. Vote for THE BLACK LION!
For me personally I love finding tidbits about GW1 in Ascalon. So much nostalgia for me.
Well ArenaNet did say that they would have Ebohawke established during GW Beyond.
That plus a continuation of Palawa Joko’s story as well as Evennias.
I feel that the establishment of Ebonhawke is the last piece of Ascalonian history that we haven’t seen.
Well ArenaNet did say that they would have Ebohawke established during GW Beyond.
I doubt we will see the Monk or Paragon come back as playable because of how they have been merged into the Guardian. I feel that the 8 current professions are fine. I wouldn’t mind another but I feel that the roles and themes are balanced right now. I’d like to see more weapons added than professions.
@Konig Didn’t one of the Princes of Vabbi mention something about some land to the west?
It could be that the Gods tied their realms to Tyria when they first came to Tyria. I could imagine that they may have lived to Arah they had portals to each of their realms in Arah.
I tend to think of their power also coming from willpower like Green Lantern.
They only managed to defeat Ascalon by using a magic nuke.

Many people seem to either not know this or forget it. We should also note that many ruins still exist and there are sizable segments of the Great Northern Wall left. Of all the humans I think that they show the tenacity of humans more so than the others. Even in death they still fight. That’s why I put my signature as “Don’t mess with Ascalon”!
More topic, i thought Cantha wasn’t very well received because they mashed all the Eastern cultures into one big …uhmm… pie? Stew? BBQ? The Cantha from Factions may not exist, but a redesigned one is allowed (at least it’s what i deduced from it). If it is indeed true, then i hope they leave Cantha out.
It had more to do with the fact that the Canthan district looked more like the shacks and what not from Cantha. However ANet saw that it looked weird and a bit offensive to have the ‘poor’ district be asian themed while being surrounded by European style architecture that looks nicer.
Im not really understanding why people jump to the no Canthan mentality just because of the Great Collapse.
A protected supply line doesn’t necessarily mean you can hold out indefinitely, The charr could have held out the hope that the centaurs would disrupt the flow of supplies through the gate sufficiently for Ebonhawke to starve (Kryta’s ability to feed itself was starting to look a bit shaky at the start of the game, IIRC). More significantly, a well-supplied fortification can still fall if the enemy breaks the fortifications down, and at their current rate of development the charr were probably only centuries or decades from rendering Ebonhawke’s wall obsolete entirely.
Century or even decade long sieges aren’t so effective or cost effective. Why spend so many resources, lives, and time to take down one fortress? It’s a lot easier to handle an enemy by diplomacy than trying to dfeat them with brute force which has not proved effective for awhile. While the charr love brute force it’s has shown that it rarely works. They only managed to defeat Ascalon by using a magic nuke. The humans of Ascalon have proven multiple times that they are masters of architecture and defensive construction.
Each of the imperators are descended of the last Khan-Ur or at least in theory. He’s only in alliance with the other because it benefits them all. His position is a bit more recognized since he does have the Claw. I think that it’s supposed to be a glaive, which is a two bladed weapon usually. Similar to a sword.
Crossbow would be good to have. I could imagine that it would be the in between for the rifles and longbows. I so wish I could use a two hand halberd.
I just started a new human elementalist and I want to be fire but what sort of weapons and traits are good for that?
The reason I dislike him is because he just kind of hijacks the story line quests. While up until the Orders part you are the main character who is pushing the story and guiding it a long. But then Trehaerne shows up out of no where and just takes over. I think that had he been introduced better and earlier it would not have been as bad.
One way I could imagine the story going would be like that during your racial story line you get introduced to some sort of character that would be like Trehaerne later on. You would complete the racial part of the story and then the character would become more important but gradually. He/she be trying to get the racial factions together while you get the Orders together.
Err… Destiny’s Edge??
Basically, although there could be a bit less drama amongst them. ANet tried to build them up but didn’t quite get it.

Here is my main.
His name is Exelion The Last. I’ve been playing around with colors and I set in on this look. The dyes used are antique gold, tarnished steel, and antique bronze. The legs, shoulders, and gloves are barbaric. The helm is scale, and the chest and boots are heritage. The weapon I use is the Ebon Vanguard hammer.
The look I was going for was for the armor to look old but strong. I think of them like herilooms since he is supposed to be descended from my GW1 main a warrior named Exelion The Great.
My main in GW1 was a warrior named Exelion the Great. My main now is a human warrior named Exelion The Last. They are supposed to be descendants. Similar to my permapre named Khaos of Tyria and my human theif named Khaos the Rogue.
The villages still look Krytan.
In PvP however, the Battle of Khylo architectures are all renaissance-Krytan styled…
Well the battle for Khylo isn’t meant to be like Kryta as Khylo was in Ascalon and was the base for an in lore Ascalonian guild.
For the past several weeks I have not been able to buy or sell anything on the TP. It doesn’t matter where I try to use it or what character I am on.
Ah I wasn’t aware that the devs said something about it.
Does anyone else think that we may be facing Primordus after the flame and frost saga or that he is somehow behind it?
Nostalgia really. My main from GW1 was name Exelion The Great. My main now is Exelion The Last.
For some reason I never am able to sell things on the TP and the preview feature has not been working.
Think of the charr as a confederation of three different nations. There is no one ruler of all the charr but they work towards mutual benefit.
I would love to see a Chronomancer.
Maybe they should release themes for guild armour.
I would like at least a few profession specific set but not necessarily for every single dungeon.
@Konig
Cantha is the continent but also the common name for the Empire. It’s like how the United States of America is the official name of the US but America (which techincally would include north and south america) is also commonly used. Unless it has been stated somewhere that Cantha is not the continent.
You might be right about Elona, since it is also called Land of the Golden Sun.
I think the second expansion is far too soon. I’d put my bets on 3rd at least. Jormag is likely next, and the deep sea dragon may follow, and only then would we go for Cantha. But Kralkatorrik is more likely to be dealt with first, and can be part of an Elona expansion.
I suspect they’ll let us visit Cantha before they let us visit Elona. Reason being they’ll want to do everything to draw in the Asian market.
I actually think we will go to Elona first merely because once we deal with Kral it would give us a perfect opportunity to into Elona and deal Palawa Joko. Then from Istan we could sail to Cantha.
Treahearne=Kormir from GW1.
The only time that I felt annoyed by Kormir was when she swiped the final act of heroism from us at the end of Nightfall. Treahearne annoys me every time he speaks and add to the fact we are essentially his side kick and dont matter at all.
I dont think anet is planning to visit Cantha in gw2 but they might hint at some lore on it later on.
I can almost guaranty that we will visit Cantha, however it might not be until the 2nd expansion or so.
I rather they add Stone Dwarfs and Orcs than Tengu. they ugly
The Dwarves are to few in number and lack any sort of thoughts aside from killing the Destroyers. Orcs don’t exist in Tyria, so no
I agree, like I said, I don’t think Cantha will accomplish a whole lot, technologically.
Also the Charr reverse engineered gunpowder from the dwarves. Dwarves first came up with mines and explosives.
While they may have gotten gunpowder from the Dwarves they far surpassed anything the Dwarves had when it comes to weaponry.
Maybe they found a way to reverse-engineer Asuran portal-tech and have engineers of their own, but that’s it.
There was only one portal in Cantha and no one in the government really seemed to pay it any mind. Also Considering that the source of power for all the old portals is gone and we do not know the current system I doubt they would be able to do it. And considering how much redtape their government has it would take so many years just to decide who even gets to be on the committee that would put together a plan.
Still the idea of a world war in Tyria(industrialized cantha vs charr) as as a plot orchestrated by the Elder Dragons would be pretty interesting dont you think?
I figured since cantha was based on china cantha would have invented their own guns and weapons much like Medieval China did with gun powder. Unlike the Charr and Dredge who reverse engineered Dwarven technology.
Problem one with the Charr waging war on Cantha is that they have no navy and no direct access to the sea. To do so they would have to either go south towards Ebonhawke (which has resisted any and all bombardment from the charr) and through the Crystal desert which is controlled by and ED or go across the Shiverpeaks which would turn into a long a costly war against the Norn and then deal with the humans.
Charr didn’t reverse engineer dwarven tech. They didn’t really industrialize until long after the dwarves went through the transformation. The Dwarves never really had grand engineering feats, they were just really great smiths. The Charr built all they have accomplished on their own. And it seems the dradge have mainly made their own tech but merely taking over old dwarven ruins.
Who else would like to see Cantha return in a future GW2 expansion?I certainly would and I hope that they have become just as technologically advanced as the charr or perhaps even more.Like on the equivalent of World War 2 tech with planes, tanks, and even nuclear bombs. It would certainly be a boost to the human race and elevate them from a rag tag single kindom of survivors into a super power again.
I guaranty we will see them in some future expansion. I doubt that they will progress that much simply because the lack of need and Cantha was never really focused on industry and the attitudes towards nature that the Kurzicks and Luxons have I doubt they would go through the process of environmental damage that would be required for such industrialization. Also with the magic that humans are capable of they don’t really have a need for tanks. Why spend money and natural resources on tanks when you can have fewer elementalists who can do that same thing.
Still, it is a minor point of irritation for me. You see it so often, in both fantasy and science fiction. The city of Tarsonis on the planet Tarsonis. The continent of Azeroth on the planet Azeroth. The continent of Tyria on the planet Tyria. It would be like if we named our planet ‘Europe’. The very idea is absurd.
Europe is a cooler name for a planet than Earth imo.
Programmers, designers, graphics artists, music composers, play testers, quality assurance personnel can’t be paid in Gems. So no. I’d rather give them money for them to be able to continue to work on the game.
Gems does not appear out of nowhere when u convert gold to gem. It comes from another player converting gem to gold.
The point still stands. You can’t make a profit off the exchange between in game currencies.
I would be shocked if they did this. Or at least initially. There would not be enough money made off such a deal.
Is the tradingposts sell-page offline or something?
I might be having the same problem (since the last couple of days). Every page in the Trading Post window is blank for me except for the ‘Pick Up’ tab. I have an open ticket with Support, but so far nothing’s working.
I’ve also had the same issue.
I doubt it is against the rules. I would think that this is one time where ‘clever use of mechanics’ is not a bannable exploit.
For the past couple of weeks every time I bring up the trading post to sell something the screen is merely blank with only the search bar appearing. I can purchase thing from the trading post just fine.
Im pretty sure they mentioned a long time ago that they would have expansions like EotN rather than separate campaigns.
I doubt they will add more professions to avoid overlapping themes and functionality of the current ones.
Guardian magic is a result of the School of Preservation, yes; it’s fueled by strong faith in something. Friends and family, a cause, your leader, yourself—anyone can be a guardian under these terms.
Pretty much this.
Guardian Magic comes from the school of Preservation (or rather, I should say, suspected to – the only profession who’s school of magic is confirmed is Elementalist, who use Destruction magic), and those who are guardians have strong faith in something. For charr, it’s usually faith in their warband or legion, for humans it’s in the Six Gods. There’s a Nightmare Court sylvari guardian who’s faith is in the Nightmare.
Actually from GW1 we know that Mesmers are Denial, Necros are aggression.
A second option would be magic, which explains many things, so maybe Ebonhawke is protected somehow.
In an interview, Jeff Grubb said that Ebonhawke was out of range of the Foefire. Meaning it didn’t reach that far.
However, he also said that it was because it wasn’t “part of Ascalon at the time” (which isn’t true… so I’m guessing on that he was mistaken).
Maybe Ebonhawke was not within the official boundaries of Ascalon despite being an outpost. Like how the US has military bases in other countries but those are considered US territory but are not within the US.
I think one mission that would be awesome would the final fight between Ascalon’s Chosen and the Zealots of the Shiverpeaks.
