LOL 20 seconds of protection from rapid fire. You wish buddy.
Power ranger has plenty of counters and counterplay. LoSing them is quite easy on most maps in PvP. A medi guard or thief can instantly gap close and force the ranger to blow their cooldowns, after which they can be focused down instantly.
In addition to that, there are far more useful classes for long range nuking…shatter mesmer to name just one, which also happens to be more survivable, have more utility, and deal more AoE damage.
Probably will be next week, since I think these ~5 changes are Anets response to Warlords of Draenor… lol
Fire: Now only affects enemies around your selected target (increased damage). This sigil should be anti-AI, and good for team fighting.
Blood: Now only heals, damage component is removed.
Air: Changed to on swap, with icon on bar similar to doom. This sigil should promote spike damage (perhaps comboed with intelligence). This gives it counterplay.
Battle: Now only gives 2 stacks of might. Nine stacks of might is just a bit too much to be getting from one sigil.
Geomancy/Hydromancy: Now are on a small delay after swapping weapons, imagine the spikes growing out of the ground over 1/4-1/2 second and then hitting
just a note;
SD SB bleed stack ranger pretty much counters DD Cele ele due to all the poison. That is all
Noone is OP, there is a counter for every meta build, even if said counter isn’t a popular choice
That only works in a duel won’t work in Team Que. Even in duels vs a really good d/d ele if you win its going to take you very long time and if that was in Team Que your not going to be able to hold cap and kill the ele before backup arrives and kills you.
^
Tbh, S/D SB shouldn’t really outdps an eles sustain in any reasonable timeframe. Even A/D SB has a hard time doing it (against a decent ele).
I had multiple matches like this as well, where I knew the names of everyone on the other team (they were decent, or top players), and my team seemed completely random/new-ish players :/
here we go ESPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTS
I had awful lag on Khylo tonight, but only that map
When the best player known to man makes a video, people watch.
I watched, but apparently the knowledge overwhelmed my mind during the first 2.5 minutes and I had an epileptic seizure.
Does this mean the thursday weekly for gems is over ?
I think they are keeping it around as a more casual, non streamed tournament intended for non-top teams.
U foking wot m8
Yup, this build is absurdly easy to play & way too rewarding for the amount of effort involved. I’ve seen turret engies 1v2 other new players in hotjoin simply by dropping all turrets/crate and run around random dodging. This cannot be good for the game.
Now that turrets have a trait which allows them to give boons, the damage should be nerfed and they should have more of a support based role.
I think we might start seeing a build like : 20606 celestial signet beastmastery a/t s/d pop up in solo queue as a homepoint defender or attacking far point. This build would have extremely high survivability due to signet of stone & renewal, as well as the passive regen from
Shortbow doesn’t have enough damage to be able to deal with elementalist/warrior sustain currently
I do wut i want
Dat mod title change though <3
Dueling, 2v2, and 3v3 arenas are just one way that life could be easily breathed back into this stale, dying game.
It’s exceedingly easy to get into the top 100 of the leaderboards by playing 1 game every 2-3 days. All you need is basic mechanics and knowledge of rotations with a meta build.
I’m not a good player, and I’ve gotten top 10 before just by not playing frequently. Think Arenanet cares that the leaderboards are a joke? Nope.
What happened to doing a cool quest line or killing a difficult boss to get a weapon skin in games?
Cool go buy Teq weapons.
Yeah, reskins of crafting weapons <3
Ahh ok, so you are a “if it doesn’t fit what I am looking for than it doesn’t exist” type of people. Got it. Also crafting weapons, can you buy them from the gem store?
I think you are one of those “making something out to be what it isn’t” type of person.
Oooh, look, I can make up labels too.
What happened to doing a cool quest line or killing a difficult boss to get a weapon skin in games?
Cool go buy Teq weapons.
Yeah, reskins of crafting weapons <3
For the rewards
Seriously, pretty soon this game will have more weapons/armor originating from the gem store than from the actual game.
Oh well, the woes of a F2P game I suppose.
Are people OK with this? I’d actually almost prefer at this rate to not have new stuff added if it’s only gem store based.
What happened to doing a cool quest line or killing a difficult boss to get a weapon skin in games?
Why is this a surprise?
This game’s PvP is dead. It’s a spam-filled, imbalanced mess with one game mode.
@Helseth,
Guardian and Thief both play unique, and some would say ‘overpowered’ roles in team queue (Team Support and Mobility). Do you think that this type of role dominance is acceptable from a balancing standpoint given the way the game promotes the idea of every class can play every role?
Team Queue:
1. Guardian, Thief, Warrior, Elementalist
2. Necromancer, Engineer
3. Mesmer, Ranger
Solo Queue:
1. Engineer, Warrior, Thief, Elementalist
2. Guardian
3. Necromancer, Ranger, Mesmer
you probably have a much higher chance of bugs being fixed by posting them in the bug forum instead of the structured pvp one
Actually, whether you post here, there, or not at all, the chance will remain at the exact same percentage.
Guild Wars 2 is the only game I’ve ever gotten legitimately mad about… I think it has something to do with combining really fun mechanics with a kitteny game mode, kitteny balance, and tiny community with kitteny match making.
…when you…look at….the high tier meta… Warrior….warrior….thief….guardian…elementalist….conditions so….OP….omg….nerf….pls
You think anyone cares?
4v5 and Skyhammer are the foundation of this games pvp. If you don’t like it find another game and quit whining please.
The leaderboards in Guild Wars 2 are so inclusive, it’s like telling your mom you passed Phys Ed
TBH I left after the first 10 minutes of clueless rambling which seemed to center upon how running away from a warrior with Berserker’s stance and Endure Pain up is well designed gameplay.
Of course you left after the first 10 minutes, you were already preparing to make another QQ post, am I right or am I right?
I’ve had my fair share of constructive posts. But the mishandling of this game is definitely deserving of QQ, given how much potential it had.
TBH I left after the first 10 minutes of clueless rambling which seemed to center upon how running away from a warrior with Berserker’s stance and Endure Pain up is well designed gameplay.
tl;dr?
I really wonder how Arenanet came to the decision that Conquest was the best game mode for this game.
It stuns me even more that it is still the only recognized PvP game mode.
This game would do extremely well with Capture the Flag and Deathmatch/Annihilation variants.
Keeping 5v5 conquest as the only game mode not only creates boredom within the player base it also creates an illusion that balance is worse than it actually is. 2v2, 3v3, 5v5 deathmatch would each create new viable builds and compositions.
2v2, 3v3, 5v5, 8v8 deathmatch as well as organized large scale scenarios such as 20v20 40v40 fortress defense would be a huge hit among all WvW and PvP players.
How about a dueling mode where the highest ranked duelists are instanced into a display in HotM in a new arena where people can observe and place bets? “Gladiator Arena”
There are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many options that would be successful, it’s really saddening to see all the potential this game has go to waste on one single game mode.
Arenanet balance philosophy is a mix of nihilism and minimalism.
Trying to boss someone into using a different weapon in a video game just means you are a bossy nerd.
/thread
Saying that this game’s endgame content is WvW and PvP is just a kitten attempt to excuse it for its absolutely abysmal PvE balancing.
My favorite moment in PvP was probably a series of two solo queue matches.
The first one was a 5v5 where one mesmer on the enemy team was talking kitten the whole game.
The next game was a 4v5 (my team down 1 player) vs the same mesmer on skyhammer. I 2v1ed the mesmer and his other teammates 3 times on trap ranger and we won the game by about 10 points. Needless to say, he stopped trash talking lol
This thread is two separate topics.
People have a problem with rng in general, because the outcome can be largely out of there control. In the case of high percentage ring people have less issue with that for beneficial effects.
The other topic is condi vs power. People have issues with condi, because it’s often AoE, Ranged, or both , reduces healing (poison), is passive once applied, ignores armor, ignores defensive abilities once applied ( like invulnerable) , and is therefore easy to play, low risk, and high reward.
The only thing that keeps it from being absurdly broken is that burning and Poison don’t stack in intensity when multiple ppl run condi, but all the other dots do, and it’s still broken (OP).
Might stacking and Celestial Amulet has created even more ridiculously broken scenarios where there are power condi hybrids hitting about as hard as power builds and condi builds together if not harder while having toughness, vitality, and healing power bonuses.
No, this thread is not two separate topics.
This thread points out the hypocrisy of people complaining about Dhuumfire, Incendiary, Sun Spirit while not complaining about Sigil of Air/Fire which are essentially the same thing (except they have even less counterplay because they can’t be cleansed).
Are people on this thread purposely acting dumb?
Sigil of air x3 + Sigil of fire x2 = 5k+ damage over 10 seconds. These sigils are doing more damage than even Incendiary powder.
Lol chill dude, I didn’t see the part about 10 seconds.
First of all, I’d like you to tell me the last time you saw a thief running sigil of air and sigil of fire. I’ve only ever seen thieves running one or the other (including since the update to sigils/runes), not both at the same time.
Secondly (and more importantly), the probability of hitting sigil of air three times and sigil of fire twice in a given 10s period is extremely low (and technically impossible in the case of SoFire anyways) on a 20066 thief such as this one. Even assuming you had permanent fury and could get in 2 hits per second on average (which is highly unlikely), it would still take you ~1.587 additional seconds on average to activate your sigils, meaning you’d get in an average of 2.18 Lightning Strikes and 1.52 Flame Blasts per 10 seconds- and this, again, is highly optimistic, when you considered that we assumed that we would be making a total of 2 hits per second on average and had permanent fury. Plus, I’m not even sure that the meta 20066 thief runs Sigil of Agility anyways- I just put that in for the additional precision.
And anyways, in the end, anybody who runs enough power/precision and the two sigils to get 5k damage/10 seconds (assuming that’s even possible) is going to be pretty glassy anyways, and will probably go down quickly. Ironically enough, conditions are a massive weakness to S/D, as well.
The build which Sizer ran in ToL: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAsYVl0MpwpVOx7J8PNBNB5dY+SZ0KAdfko0XA-TZBFwACeAAl2fYxRAoaZAAnCAA
Again, even by your calculations, the proc damage from these random sigils still equals or exceeds random procs like Incendiary Powder. With luck it also has a chance to have almost twice as much damage.
The argument I’m making is that these Sigils are fundamentally the same as random Condition procs, and that if you want to talk about Incendiary Powder being bad design, you should be talking about these power based RNG damage sources as well.
In other words, I don’t care about what you perceive the state of the Thief to be in PvP, or whether or not there are is a substantial number of people running Air/Fire. I’m talking about what should be considered as smart combat design, and random damage procs aren’t part of that.
I find it funny how people complained so bitterly about Dhuumfire and Sun Spirit RNG procs and now we have Sigils of Air and Fire proccing for 5k+ damage every 10 seconds but since it’s power damage people think it is fine.
Why can Thief get away with running 20066 right now? Dodge all day and wait for your RNG Air/Fire procs to make up for your bad DPS.
This is just as poor of design as Dhuumfire or Incendiary Powder, yet people have deluded themselves into thinking that (for some unknown reason) power is more ‘virtuous’ than conditions
So you’re telling me that there are players with over 3600 power in sPvP? Because that’s how much it takes to hit for 5k on sigil of air alone (even more power for Sigil of Fire). Even with 25 stacks of might, this is impossible.
As for your statement about 20066, that’s simply untrue. People have always been able to get away with 20066 (I played it for well over a year before Sizer played it in ToL). If anything, the strength of Power of Inertia combined with Runes of Strength is what is making 20066 so popular right now. It has nothing to do with sigil of fire or air whatsoever. Also, since Critical Strikes is much weaker now, thieves have been turning to builds like 20066 which don’t take advantage of the Critical Strikes trait line.
As for “dodging all day”, I’d like to see you fight an S/D thief on an S/D thief. Fights like that tend to be much, much shorter than you’d expect (as long as both thieves are running Zerker amulet, which virtually every one is anyways. Even on Soldier’s, though, the fights can be extremely short).
Are people on this thread purposely acting dumb?
Sigil of air x3 + Sigil of fire x2 = 5k+ damage over 10 seconds. These sigils are doing more damage than even Incendiary powder.
If you think an S/D thief can’t dodge all day, please watch a good thief like Sizer play before you come on here claiming any different.

I’d like to applaud the devs for fixing Dhuumfire. One of the smartest changes they’ve implemented in a while.
Now, let’s fix:
Sun Spirit
Although Spirit Ranger is no longer a defining force in the meta, random team wide burn procs will never be a good idea. Maintain the Sun Spirit active, remove the passive, and add to the active ability a 4-5 second burn which applies to ranger & teammates like a venom. This means that the Sun Spirit burn proc is now able to be dodged both by looking at the UI bar and by watching for the Sun Spirit active ability tell.
Incendiary Powder
Incendiary Powder has even less counterplay than Sun Spirit (you can’t kill it and it lasts over twice as long). I’m not sure what to suggest for Incendiary Powder, but it needs to be changed. The trait could be removed entirely in exchange for better condition removal for the engineer. It could also be changed to effect toolbelt skills in some way.
Combustive Shot
Combustive Shot is an ability that has so completely pidgeonholed warrior that no build without a longbow is currently viable. Combined with Cleansing Ire it equals both the most powerful condition removal in the game, and the biggest source of burn spam in the game. This ability should be changed to be single target, and create a smaller burning field only upon successful hit. This change would severely hurt warriors to begin with, but then melee weapons on warrior could be buffed, and warrior would experience a resurgence in build diversity.
D/D elementalist burn uptime
Compared to the other examples of burn spam listed above, Elementalists aren’t quit as obnoxious. However, with Celestial + Runes of Strength, the burning from D/D needs to be toned down slightly. Right now, Elementalists have slightly too much pressure while being able to spec completely defensively (00266), and a lot of that pressure comes from the burning in fire attunement.
I wonder if this list needs to be different for teamq versus soloq. While I’ve heard that Engineers aren’t viable in top tier Teamq, in soloq they do quite well in top tier. Nevirsaydie was top 25 in soloq up until this week, he runs a 3 kit engi, and was very good at point assault with good survivability.
Engineers are probably the best class for solo queue. Their only weakness is really condi bombs or being focused hard by an organized team.
They have cheap stuff like Incendiary Powder and Crate to easily win 1v1s and they are one of the top two most broken Skyhammer classes (and that’s going to equal a hefty advantage in 1/6th of your SQ matchups).
Both proccing together can lead to some pretty stupid burst, true.
But unlike conditions the attacks that trigger them are much easier to avoid. A thief hitting you in the face is a pretty obvious thing to avoid. A random procc worth 5000 damage (such as Dhuumfire) on a random, untelegraphed ranged attack not.
Are you completely oblivious?
Both Dhuumfire and Sigil of Air/Fire are triggered by random, untelegraphed attacks, ranged or melee, it doesn’t matter.
Dhuumfire equated to about 2100 damage per 10 seconds.
Air/Fire total a combined 5k+ damage over 10 seconds, all of it completely random and untelegraphed, as well as fire being AoE.
Evan , so the filter can’t be implemented because of Q times? Because if there’s a vote system it still not the player choice but the majority.. And those who love skyhammer will never get that map basically.
Filters will always impact queue times, which is very undesirable. We should avoid anything that increases queue times or effectively create more queues.
You’re recognizing the problem with majority voting, but there are ways around it. Specifically balancing randomness with player voting. A few people have mentioned having random vote options, which sounds good. It makes it so the most popular choices aren’t always available. The remaining question is: How often would the least popular map (by any amount) actually get played?
Also, please do not focus your feedback specifically on Skyhammer and why you don’t like it. There we always be a least popular map and we should take that into consideration.
This is a video game debate, not a human rights debate.
The idea of needing to defend a minority is very valid in a democracy. If minority rights are not protected in a democracy, it results in the tyranny of the majority over the minority.
The idea of needing to defend a minority in a video game is silly and bad business policy. As with any product you should aim to please the most people possible. Your modus operandi should be to create the best experience for the broadest group of customers as possible. Right now your game forces a large majority of people to play a map they don’t want to very frequently.
The easiest fix would be to simply have a 3 vote option, where players are given a choice to play on a RNG selection of two maps, or vote for a ‘random map’ if they don’t like either of the maps suggested by the game.
Sure, Skyhammer wouldn’t be chosen very often, and that’s precisely because most people don’t like it.
Once Skyhammer started becoming a very infrequently seen map, the troll builds used to exploit its bad mechanics would also start to be forgotten, and people might start having a less negative attitude toward in it, making it actually become more popular.
I find it funny how people complained so bitterly about Dhuumfire and Sun Spirit RNG procs and now we have Sigils of Air and Fire proccing for 5k+ damage every 10 seconds but since it’s power damage people think it is fine.

Skyhammer is only an example of a map that some people have vocalized that they like less than others. There will always be maps that people like more and less than others. What I’m trying to get from you guys is to think of how a map voting system could work with regards to all player preferences. How could we ensure that players can always get chances to play their favorite maps?
Get real. These forums have been filled with Skyhammer complaints since you released the map. In fact, it’s probably one of the most complained about things on these entire forums, and that’s saying something. Do you see multiple complaints about Foefire, or TotSS or Khylo every day? NO.
How about you take all the people who like Skyhammer and then send them to their own private server where they can instagib each other all day long?
Also, I’m sure someone has said it already but the best way to make sure more people have matches with the filter system is to have the number of “omit selections” to only 1 selection.
Ideally, most people would just hate one map (cough skyhammer). So just have only 1 map you can choose to omit, then at least you’ll have at least 5 maps to match for each player. More intersections = more matches.
I believe WoW has this feature for Battlegrounds, where you can pick two that you don’t want to play.
This would definitely work… it’s just a question of whether or not Arenanet has the developers left to implement even such a miserably small change like this into the game.
That’s rather silly to say. You happen to notice the living world/living story stuff? They are still implementing them, hence, they have developers. Perhaps you noticed the april 15th changes too.
It’s a matter of priorities.
Yeah, exactly, what’s left of their development team is busy laying a breadcrumb trail for PvErs. Is that why we can’t have miserably small, desperately needed QoL changes like this?
And yeah, I noticed the dysfunctional traits and the new $$$$$ wardrobe system, thanks for pointing that out.

Livskis, have you learned nothing?
If, and that’s a BIG if, Arenanet added new game modes then people would play those game modes, instead of playing Skyhammer! Meaning Arenanet’s development on Skyhammer would be wasted!
This is why we shall never have new game modes.
What to do against a good thief?
Curl up and die as they evade everything you do, meanwhile hitting 3k autoattacks.
Then, make a post on the forums about how thieves slaughter mesmers.
