[Suggestion] Options for Target-Following

I bet none of you ever had this problem…

Target-following skills such as:
Warrior – (greatsword #5) Charge
Warrior – (sword #2) Savage Leap
Ele – (dagger offhand #4) Ride the Lightning
Ranger – (greatsword #3) Swoop
Scrapper – (hammer #3) Rocket Charge
etc.
can sometimes mean life or death depending on if you have a target selected…

Countless times when player wants to charge forward (to escape or skip a fight),
but only to charge backward toward the enemy zerg in wvw or mob in pve.
This could happen when there are too many things going on the screen and
you have no idea where you are clicking.

I suggest options to customize those skills, so that,
they will not cause the character follow the target if:
- the target is out of range
- the target is not in LoS (line of sight)
- the target is not on camera (maybe disregard stealth if the skill is channeled before the target goes stealth)

WvW Battleground

Ditch WvW n go for WoW styled 40vs40 (or whatever controlled team size) battlegrounds…only those interested join the fun. since there’s always the concern for time zones and player interest, causing outnumbered, unfair matches. Yes, some do enjoy being outnumbered and see that as challenges, but I doubt they are the majority. the mega server idea forms mega blobs, except their sizes now greatly varies. If there can be some sort of game mode between the match scales of (s)PvP and WvW. I hate having to wait for queue and prematch countdown in PvP and the constant unfair match in WvW; Just wanna get into a fair game asap.

yes, GvG skirmishes sounds fun. But if that can be further extended to welcome people from different guilds, again, in a controlled environment where outnumber won’t be an issue.

Lock Ground Target at Maximum Skill Range vs. Line of Sight

Please consider factoring in Line of Sight (LoS) for this feature. It can be very frustrating when what you see is NOT what you get for ground targeting skills. it can be a lifesaver or disaster.

In particular, Teleportation skills (shadow step, lightning flash, blink) have always been broken (i.e. not fully functional) since game’s launch; factoring in LoS for those skills will likely compensate a bit for their shortcomings. Thanks.

It often times-out the first time opening the window after logging into the game; or, a few minutes after the previous BLTC access.

other than that, it’s a bit slow and limiting considering the amount and the diversity of inventory items to sell. after maybe around 10-15 of consecutive listing, BLTC prevents you from selling again. this’s been very frustrating.

if yes, then it’s not just a form of exploit but botting, caused by a poor game design and the ignorance of Anet staff. I’ve seen a ranger camping at mob spawn area with very defensive equipment and skills to keep his pet alive. This definitely sounds sketchy and must be reconsidered for a fix.

It’s been like this since launch… the end dates for events aren’t always clear enough.
In the past, people would complain the tokens they earned during the events couldn’t be exchanged anymore because the events finished ‘unexpectedly’ and the event-NPCs were gone. Anet later had to add special NPCs to solve that issue.

And..
Why can’t the end-date announcements be integrated into the game? Plus it’d make more sense that way, making the game more immersive, rather than having ppl find that out elsewhere outside the game. I personally don’t like checking websites.

The skill can cause rev to fall off a bridge because of the random teleport near the target.

If they keep doing what they’re doing, then probably not.

First their HoT marketing was disastrous. One of the worst I’ve seen. They made huge effort trying to pull ppl into pre-orders yet gave so little info. into the actual content.
It’s their management, marketing and the money-making decisions they made that put me off, not the overall quality of the game. Anet could’ve done a lot better at handling player responses and actually speculated what the players wanted prior to having them pre-order their product.

Today saw a botter farming but I couldn’t see its name at all.
It was farming then teleported to an adjacent node.

It’s using one of those molten farming axes, meaning it’s a regular player who had spent gold or cash in the gem store. and that player is confident enough to run the bot not worrying they would get caught.

Ultimately it also means more players can use the bots safely because Anet has no more effective method to stop them.

Farming Bots still exist and they are now ‘more advanced’.

Before, they were farming underground and you could still see their names and report them.

Now they are farming underground (you can see them drop vertically underground), but as soon as you are near them they teleport away.

Today I finally caught one (screenshoted) when I was a distance away from it.

About the expansion, I’m still hesitant to buy it…

1.) There’s even NO release date yet. This impressed me how desperate anet was in need of money (or funding).

2.) With the recent new ‘balance patch’, it feels just like another anet’s trial-and-error that breaks many current builds and change all PvP / WvW experiences. personally I’m not a fan of drastic change unless it’s very, very well designed with thorough testing. For every major changes come with balance issues, exploiters, and eventually bad gameplay experience.

3.) WvW server population balance is still a huge problem that anet intentionally ignores to tackle for centuries, yet, WvW is a large part in gw2 end-game contents. To me it’s more important than revamping the trait system that was already working fine. It seems like our server (and another server) has abandoned the WvW altogether, because there is one huge dominant server zerging everything in WvW. And this has been like this for several f—-ing months now. I paid for this game for this s—-ty end game and need to pay extra to transfer to another server?

I personally don’t mind the absence of new living story but with those foundamental design flaws I can’t exepct a good gaming experience when HoT comes out. plus, again, it’s the price of nearly a full game, with only 1 more profession, 1 (or 2 ) additional character slot plus lots of uncertainties. I will get HoT months after it’s out. And time to move on to another game.

Try checking your firewall settings. Coherent_UI.exe might either be blocked or sandboxed (as it happened to mine last month).

I’ve always allowed access for Coherent_UI.exe, but who-knows-when my firewall sandboxed it some day which caused TP show blank pages and also then crashed my gw2.exe several times.

1.) turn-off the “sandbox” feature of your firewall (firewall might suspect Coherent_UI.exe is doing something nasty), or
2.) run gw2.exe as Administrator (win7)

Same thing happens here, for about a month now. A month ago BLTC works fine but not anymore. double-checked my firewall, the gw2.exe and Coherent_UI.exe both still have internet access (shutting down firewall still did not help).

BLTC:
1.) mostly crashes gw2 when its window opens and loads a few seconds, or,
2.) gw2 shows that error code in game, then crashes, or
3.) loads and works fine, which is rare.

Skill Bug- Rush

This bug has been and would forever be there. period, seriously, probably since launch.

Any target-following (leap) skills across all classes have similar issues of not hitting the “obvious” target. Teleportation skills in all classes are also bugged.

They will probably get fixed in Guild Wars 3

The problem isn’t restricted to Bull Charge and Rush. Lots of closing gap skill suffers from almost the same problem.
Ranger, shortbow -> Quick Shot (rubberband)
Thief, shortbow -> Disabling Shot (also rubberband)
Ranger, greatsword -> Swoop (1,100 unit range but the darn skill usually doesn’t register damage when hitting target)
Not sure if there are more.
The coding on those skills seems to have problem with latency.
Yes, it’s probably those things that will never be fixed along with condition damage dilemma.

Agreed. The latency seems to be the culprit. There is difference between where you see the skill lands on your screen vs. the actual location of your opponent.

Guild Wars 2 probably isn’t (no, it isn’t) making as much profit as those MMOs with monthly subscription, so under-staff at tech team is expected. I had purchased gem cards with real cash before, but as time drags on with those unresolved bugs, I can’t make up my mind to buy them anymore. I mean, those are so at the core of gameplay / game engine (I still like the game overall though and appreciate its unique game design).

Same with Selling items, TP would automatically default the selling price to be the lowest price allowed – whereas it would make more sense to set the price to the lowest amount made by other players.

And I miss the old TP where it tells you the lowest sell price you’ve made. Right now there is no fast way to know if you had sold the item before, because you don’t want to compete with your previous sell price.

The automation can really be troublesome rather than useful in this regard.

have seen at least two players speedhack in silverwaste in the past few weeks (just saw one today). They use short-range teleports (or it seems like ‘lagging’) – about 300 range jump. They would fast move to a spot, do something, then keep moving. but in game there is no report option for “Hacking” (why isn’t there one?). Is there any preventive measure against those botters/hackers rather than having to manually reporting them?

Rush has long been bugged. Discussions have been made all over the place. Anet takes no action, and probably never will. They don’t care except for money making. Sorry.

But I’m assuming your warrior is having trouble hitting target with these said skills?
If so, they are part of the long-been-bugged skills that come with Guild Wars 2. Enjoy (sarcastically).

Combat UI issues and suggestions

After playing for so long, these User Interface mechanisms still seem to bother me a lot:

1.) Unforgiving skill cool-down triggering
The auto-targeting isn’t very optimal in my taste, so I’ve long turned it off. But manual target is also a pain because of how skill cool down is triggered:

1.1.) If you target nothing while using skill, the skill activation still counts and thus cool down begins. Now this only makes both auto and manual targeting barely enjoyable features. There have already been discussions about these, so I won’t bother here.

1.2.) If the target is not directly in front of you or not in the line of sight. The camera is mostly looking top down at your character; you can see what your characters cannot (and thus the “line of sight” becomes confusing because it depends on what your character can see and not your camera). Also, the Line of Sight is likely determined by the center XYZ of an object, rather than its hit box; so even if your character can see the upper torso of another character, the skill still may not hit, but cool down still triggers.

1.3.) If the target is out of range. Example: I use Elementalist’s scepter skill #1 to measure if the enemy is in range (900), if so it means I can use skills #2 and #3, correct? Wrong. I have no idea how when those skills all have the range of 900, but you can try it out yourself. Not to mention the Tab key can target the wrong far-away target and if you use skills, they will also trigger skill cooldown.

Suggestion: If the target is not in line of sight or out of range, do not trigger the skill / spell (same ideas for the heavily bugged Teleportation skills).

The game has bugs and design flaws plus unpredictable situations where you can’t be so perfect about range, line of sight and character locations. Thus, consider make the game more forgiving if players make ‘mistakes’.


2.) The cursor is hardly visible during combat.
There are moments when the screen is so crowded with characters and visual effects, the cursor is completely obscured, leaving you confused and frustrated about where the cursor is.

Suggestion: In Option > Gameplay menu, give an option and slider like:
[ ] Auto reset Cursor location to center of screen, after holding down Right Mouse button,
after: —-—o——————————- 0.5 second

Halloween Vendor? Suggestion Added

It’s not the first time the vendors or event disappears without proper announcement (players need to be better informed!!), leaving frustrating players behind with un-traded holiday/event items.

1.) Not everyone reads gw2 forum!
2.) Not everyone reads the message in the game-launcher!

In my opinion, a better way is to eventually integrate all information INTO the game rather than scattering much information all over the place (in-game, forum, launcher, you name it…); it feels very disorganized especially with such information related to in-game events – if it’s in-game related events, players should be informed in-game.

Suggestions:
1.) Inform players through in-game mailing system
2.) Inform players through User Interface on the top right corner
3.) Inform players through the achievement window (ex. on the Halloween achievement window, it should show the time remaining, just like the monthly achievement)

When I play the game, I just want to play game itself and not having to go scavenger hunt for important information elsewhere.

Immobilized or Earthshaker bug

As a warrior, if you got immobilized, then using hammer’s Earthshaker burst skill will cause your character’s animation appear as falling and you won’t be able to control your character – unless the immobilize condition is cleared in some way. The longer the immobilize condition is, the longer you lose control over your character, because while falling you can’t use skills. This happened in (Halloween) Mad King’s realm, fighting mobs.

It might have to do with how immobilize works with leap skills.

Just saw a couple other bots farming in Timberline Falls; they all have the same traits –
1.) Stay underground
2.) Teleportation

And a few others I’m unsure if they are bots –
they’d farm at a node then suddenly disappear; in the beginning I assumed they just jumped to another wp or maybe logged out, but now I’m more suspicious about that too…

Yet another cursed hacker + botter in Timberline Falls:
(spotted about 10 min ago).

1.) The character appears UNDERGROUND – you do not see the player model but only its name.

2.) The character moves extremely fast from farming node to node like instant teleportation (I had to keep taking screenshot to hopefully catch one with his name); it takes time for the bot to farm a node, but as soon as it’s farmed, the bot instantly teleports to the next node.

Please consider removing the feature that Automatically switch from “Place Order” to “Buy Instantly”.

Example:
- I wanted to place my order, say, 20 [xxoo daggers] @ 1 silver, and
- There is ONE [xxoo dagger] @ 1 silver available right away for instant purchase

Result:
- TP window automatically selects that ONE [xxoo dagger] @ 1 silver and 19 other daggers at higher prices and instead of placing my orders, TP buys all including those of higher prices!!!

Problem:
- If the 19 daggers are priced at 1 gold, then I’ll be so screwed :/

Suggestion:
- Provide two buttons: “Buy Instantly” and “Place Order” beside the “Cancel” button (or whatever layout works better).
- Also, after the order or purchase is made, please show a more detailed message:
“An order of 20 [xxoo daggers] at 70 silver has been placed.”
(instead of a very plain and simple message “An order for 20 has been made…”)
or “You have purchased 20 [xxoo daggers] with 2 gold and 50 silvers].”
(instead of “Pick up your items at the nearest Black Lion trader.”)

Bottom line:
TP should ONLY, and ONLY purchase the item at the set price by the user!!!

Timberline Falls – suspecting farming bots teleporting from node to node.

I have seen a few players doing it individually at separate times:
1.) The player model is not shown but ONLY the name; it appears that the model is underground because the name is below my character when we are at the same spot.

2.) The player teleports instantly to the next farming node – I do not see him moving at all, just Teleported there right after the current node. *Note, I don’t even see any farming animation (like sparking effect when mining pick hits the node).

But as I walked to my next farming node, the bot that was behind me immediately re-appeared before me at the next node, also appeared underground.

Also for those bot / hack maker out there… are you considering file lawsuit against them? They are actively and intentionally disrupting your business operation…

Rush, doesnt work

For the past weeks, my experiment result on stationary PvE mob (it stands still!!) is:
1.) Rush (always) misses if you are out of combat.
2.) Rush is much more likely to hit if you are in combat.

Out of Combat:
So funny when you Rush to enemy and you run pass/through the enemy just to swing your sword to hit a fly behind! (no, you actually hit nothing)

In Combat:
Your warrior will rush to enemy and NOT pass through it even when the animation is still showing you running/rushing; after the running animation finishes, it hits as the sword swings.

On a side note, Rush will cause the warrior to stick to the moving enemy (like a homing missile) until the full rushing/running animation finishes. Something odd in my opinion… it’d make more sense if the warrior swing the sword as soon as it arrives at the enemy. but it seems to have become a unique strategy to exploit how this skill works…

1.) Phoenix is not a projectile,
2.) It is Not blockable (checked the skill description).

It sure is either a bug or has design flaw.

The way the phoenix works may relate to how path finding works in gw2. It is suspected that if Phoenix can’t find a return path, it would simply vanish and it does not make sense. Or maybe it does, because all teleportation skills (which also relates to path finding) are flawed (and thus bugged).

This is the design of all teleportation skills. You can usually only teleport where you can walk without jumping, so that you cannot get to areas that are normally inaccessible.

Not the case when you teleport onto stairs as in WvW tower (which almost always fail). The exact way the teleportation works can be very tricky. The distance to the destination may (or may not) be a factor to its successful execution as well. There have been tips and tricks for this skill to help you take shortcuts that are seemingly unreasonable… especially in WvW – like teleporting to a bridge above you that require quite some walking distance.

Also when the terrain is complicated (very uneven terrain), there is no telling the skill will work. Therefore it can be pretty safe to conclude that… the skill is either bugged or not fully polished with definite design flaws.

A suggestion is to make some skills (such as teleportation skills) be more forgiving – rather than fail the skill and go into full cool down, the skill could be locked until a proper destination has been chosen for teleportation (as in World of Warcraft a skill can’t be used until the enemy is in range).

This has been a very long-lived bug.

You can, and always have been able to, send reports of hacking/exploits to exploits@arena.net

I’m not sure how the Team ‘sifting through reports’ keeps item prices high or forces players to buy gold or gems, but…whatever. /shrug

I was basically saying if it doesn’t earn Anet money, they have no initiative to do it.

It has been something players have asked for since launch, and it has still yet to receive any attention.

Reporting gold sellers, however has initiated a response from anet.
(originally you were unable to report goldsellers’ mails….. but Anet added that feature, since it was hurting their cash/gem/gold profits.)

Though there is no solid proof how Anet works with their cash… players can speculate it pretty well… given the fact that there are still tons of unfixed bugs with the core game mechanics that still are making ppl scream “wtffff…” imo, as a “Loyal” customer, I don’t need any more new features… just fix the game and ban those cheaters’ IPs for life please…

It’s funny cus their whole new thing that anet is trying to push out is dynamic events. How can they do that if a large chunk of current events that are already in game either never start or bug in the middle.

Good point… :S A lot of dumb and unnecessary changes were made while things already in game are still broken for ages…

Teleport hack?

Is it just me or what I’ve seen players teleporting from one farming node to another in PvE; their model didn’t seem to display at all, I just saw a name ‘under ground’ (if I saw it correctly) and after a few seconds ‘teleporting’ to the next node – I didn’t even see the person moving but just suddenly reappearing at the next node (ex. a tree) I’m traveling to. It’s so fast I can hardly manage to take screenshot. I’ve managed to screenshot a person and sent whisper to him but there’s no response.

Agreed. please just leave the camera not moving when the character is dead. I know it’s probably more for aesthetic reason that camera moves but no thanks I don’t like it either.

Also how the camera abruptly / instantly zooms in and out when the camera is being blocked by, say, a tree / building / roof. it’s especially disorienting when doing PvE ( jumping puzzle or vistas) ’cause you could suddenly lose your sense of direction and space – please at least provide a slider in General Options that sets the camera zooming-smoothness, rather than the instant zoom in/out like what we have now.

Launcher Issues [merged]

My situation was:

  • The gw2 Launcher got stuck at “Initializing…” screen.

Cause:

  • My COMODO Firewall was blocking the “CoherentUI_Host.exe” from accessing the Internet. (it got “sandboxed”)

Solution:

  • Add that file to Trusted in my COMODO firewall. now my gw2 works fine.
  • Note: I also added that .exe file to trusted in win7’s firewall.

Suggestion to Anet:

  • At least showing error messages in Launcher saying something like: “Error connecting to the Internet, please make sure your firewall grants Internet access for gw2.exe and CoherentUI_Host.exe”

System:
Win7 64 bit

Launcher Issues [merged]

This seemed to work on Windows 8.1 (latest updates): disabling “Automatically detect settings” in the Network > Proxy control panel.

Not sure if this was just coincidence, or something else was fixed. Perhaps the new launcher is more sensitive to network issues / crappy proxy detection? I had previously tried basically everything everybody else had in this thread (repair, run as admin, disable firewall/av, uninstall/attempt to reinstall).

It’s a simple setting to test out, so it might be worth a shot.

FWIW, That fixed it for me as well – I no longer have to run the launcher with -email / -password / -nopatchui.

This is on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Make sure “Automatically detect settings” is UNchecked

Funny thing is, I usually disable auto-detect but apparently I have gotten lax in my old age.

EDIT: This fixed the issue on all 3 computers. I think we have a winner!

I tried this, my gw2 still just starts up, goes initializing, then minimizes after this. : /

Seriously… what’s with their IT team?! Didn’t they even test the launcher beforehand or at least update their fix status on the forum?!

Win7 / 64bit / wireless router connection / launcher freezes with “Initializing…” text but won’t minimize.

Metrica Province jp not porting when fell

Probably out of 6 falls, 2 of them had my character fell through the cloud – where my character should have been ported to the golem alive – all the way to the ground below, dead.

I suppose it is a bug. because I never had this issue months before when I did this jp.

This game still has so many bugs, and some new ones seems to be introduced after new patches.

I also want to know why once I sale like 6-7 items from my inventory I suddenly get the error message that doesn’t allow me to sale any more.

It happens to me all the time as well; if i sell several things one after another – which should be very common among players.

Some would say it’s part of the ‘anti-bot’ mechanism. But I would say it’s because of their server lagging to process the listing; same thing as you press “o”, it lags even just to open the window. and I think the whole black lion trading is actually a separate program from the game, because when the window loads up, my firewall program would ask me if i want to allow its connection @@

Black Lion Trading delays causing item sold with wrong price

Step to reproduce the bug:
(note sometimes it happens, not always)
1.) Right-click on an item ( say, Item A ) > Sell at Trading Post
2.) Window opens, but the item isn’t focused for selling, so I
3.) Selected another item ( say, Item B ) for sell
4.) The first item now suddenly kicks in as the selected item, so I have

Item A showing the selling price of Item B.

And I can actually click OK to proceed.

This can easily cause items to be sold UNDER highest buyer price (and possibly under vendor price). When I checked my “Items I’ve sold” history, the item was indeed sold under highest buyer price (about 18 silver) for 1 silver.

AoE skills with a 1 target limit

Visually that doesn’t make sense (explosion = AoE). and personally I do believe the skill fact should also work (make sense) with the visuals; this could be minor though in terms of mechanics and profession balance but does contribute to gameplay experience.

same thing, if you see a huge meteor hitting on your target and only caused 100 dmg in a lvl 80 area, you’d laugh. so Khisanth has his point.

Side note about the snap feature —- it’s to ensure when you click your mouse button, the skill will 100% work and be activated. Besides that, Anet, you’d need to come up with ideas to make sure the GUI is visually clear on top of all the things going on the screen; because player’s CONTROL over their character is the PRIORITY.

If we can’t control the character as we are supposed to, we aren’t gonna be happy…

1.) You targeted a location with ‘green’ indicator telling you it’s a valid location for teleportation – is it? may be not.

Probably just me not liking how unclear and unreasonable the target-indicator is – if it’s not a reachable location, why is it green then? I was guessing the skill works the same way as how the NPC calculates its traveling route – if the destination is reachable by not jumping and within certain distance then it is a valid location – wrong.

2.) You targeted a location that’s too far for the teleportation, resulting you having to re-active your skill again. It’s very inconvenient when you want to move as far away as possible in an urgent situation – and the skill simply would not work.

It would probably be a way better idea to snap (or constrain) the green indicator WITHIN the range limitation. Because from time to time my cursor would become hard to see on my screen, due to too many visual effects going on on my screen and when I wanted to target a location with my skill, it was impossible to find where my cursor is.

With all those said, if such bugged skills have caused so much inconvenience, there has to be compensation for making mistakes with those (teleportation) skills, or simply, just FIX the darn bugs.

There are also other similar (serious) issues with targeting mechanics in this game that had made the fast-paced combat a rather frustrating experience.
