With the new expansion, will Anet avoid HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

lokh.2695

01. Pricing the expansion as the full game for players already owning the original game
02. DLC worth of new content, not worthy of expansion name
03. Rushed and short story mode, with a really underwhelming final battle design.

these three kinda belong together. It all felt rushed and only halfway done, that’s the stuff they fixed/nerfed/added. If they’ve learned their lessons, all is well. Pricing and “bang for the buck”/value of the xpac will hardly be comparable as far as i can imagine. But in the end we’ll see how the idea of releasing an xpac within the “2-3 months”-schedule of releases will pan out.

04. Questionable map design, not the beauty of HoT maps, just usability. Minimap system is not enough for HoT layout.

I still hate TD and get lost in it. I’m ok with it now and see it as “flavorfuladdition to the experience”…and i swear a lot in mapchat whenever i have something to do there and inevitably get lost…
Generally though, the minimap was not and still isn’t capable of being very helpful in very vertical maps, with a lot of overlaying layers, looking at you TD -.-.
The newer maps, especially DM, do their job better. The minimap still doesn’t give a good hint at where you are concerning your height, but at least they divided the layers also horizontally, much more like VB did.

06. Killing the casualness of the original Guild Wars 2 in more than one way and thus making maps either extremely hard or right down impossible for solo completion.
08. Essentially killing off PvP with tying it to the expansion.

The powercreep that came with the elites was expected and i hope that further elites will be more on par but different in flavor or utility.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying they kiled the casualness of the original GW2. Queensdale’s still there, ppl still do SE or CoF in LvL67 Chars wearing all greens or yellows, they still do Orr-Trains or SW farms. I think the raids might have divided the playerbase more than it was before HoT. Before HoT, you were HC if you could solo dungeons or had a high frac-lvl, looking back much easier tasks than the raids, meaning everyone could get there eventually. With raids, not having much raiding experience, i can say everyone can get there eventually too, it’s just so much harder. At the end of the day, to not get too much into raids, no one forces you to raid, if you want/need something from there, you better get with the meta and pummel that golem because the loot won’t come to you. A really bad decission imho was the story stuff they put into raids exclusively, yeah i’m all in for a (soloable) story-mode for raid encounters, bare of loot and achievements, just for the experience.

07. Nerfing the older content, all in hope player base will be forced to buy into deeply flawed new one.

I wouldn’t call it flawed, just unfinished yet released. However the nerf to dungeon rewards was a blatant push into new content move and hurt ANets reputation, if ppl remember at all, more than the community. PPl still do dungeons, allthough much more do fractals i assume, since they made those more appealing.

It’s sad they turned away from dungeons, it was a fun format and the game now, could make the existing maps/content much more interesting. It would have been nice if they gae CM the Aetherpath-treatment, adding an additional harder path with achievements/minis/tonics/skins/younameit dealing with the aftermath of head of the snake. maybe the mantle wanted to secure some evidence the seraph hadn’t found yet or caudecus’ ghost is haunting the mansion or whatever

A much longer answer that i actually planned, but my sig compelled me to do it

Hope the expansion will be good and i’m very curious how the whole “2-3 months” thing will work for an expansion. I think it’s hard either way. If they give us a small part of the content at the start and release the rest over time, it wouldn’t feel much like an expansion and too close to ls or current events. if they release all at once it better be “done” not “in the making for half a year”

tl:dr We will see. Play first, rant later if necessary.

Mounts [merged]

lokh.2695

It’s this thread again. Long time no see…

*points to signature

aaaaand this:

This again?
Ok. Summary:
1- Some people like mounts. Some people don’t. Arguments come and go always the same.
2- Mounts could be a great cosmetic addition to the gemstore, say someone. They will contibute to the visual clutter that already drowns the game, answer someone.
3- Mounts couldn’t have speed boosts because that would destroy the balance in the exploration part of the game, explains someone. People who plays only combat oriented despises this reasoning and use recursive arguments to say mounts with boost being non-combat only should be ok.
4-Mounts could look so cool, says one. They will stress up the servers, accuses another. Technical discussion about processing resources, graphic properties and toggles ensues. Not conclusive.
5- Someone mention cosmetic mounts already exist, in the form of travel toys like the flying carpet. Mount fans don’t like that solution and recognize they want speed boosts anyway.
6- People began to post lush examples from other games. WOW fans shine. WOW fans are encouraged to go back to play that.
7- Someone says Anet already said they never allow mounts. Someone says Anet never said that. No sources are given on any of these claims.
8- Back to 1 a few times.
9- Topic get merged with the big one.
10- Lots of dead horse beating gifs and images.

Play the game with the mounts we have(5), I know they’re neither firespitting dragons nor rainbow trail unicorns(2, 4, 5), if that’s just not your thing and you need mounts to enjoy a game, you might want to play another game(6)…

So let’s skip right back to 10 then and bury the issue for another 6 months or until ANet gives us one of those clear yes or no messages they’re so famous for on the issue…

I'm part of the 1%. Capitalism = Noble ingame

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

lokh.2695

Just to understand you(OP) correctly. You’re trying to get our sympathy because guys/gals like you are saving the economy and keep things affordable for the average player and, if at all, the average player should be angry at, compared to what “the 1%’ers” have, very small, solid gold sinks for everyone like the daily rewards.

Not going to happen m8. You are not true heroes, as you put it. You just play the game your way and I hope you enjoy it. I’ll assume here, that you’re not into manipulating certain markets to get even richer and that you’re just an effective/clever flipper who has found his/her niche product, has enough wealth to flip for high enough profit and just get a kick out of the high numbers and the “I’m rich, you know” ingame-lifestyle. No problem there, be happy with it.

One of the problems I do have with 1%‘ers in RL and ind in GW2 is the total detachment from the remaining 99% when it comes to mindests and views n the world so to speak. If I had 100k gold and mats stacked in my bank, my playing experience would be very different from the average player. New skins? Sure, I’ll buy them. Oh a QoL upgrade in the Gemstore? Why not, I’ll buy it. The new Meta requires a new set of gear with new stats, *kaching, done, back to the TP.
The average player has to think about the ressources he/she has. I need to set myself a goal, “I want to get a new set of ascended armor”, “I want that Legendary/Skin/Mini/whatever”, then think about how I want to get the mats/gold together and then decide if I want to sink all that time/gold/mats into it. By doing so, I might have to skip something else, or I might have to get something later. But I know, all the daily rewards, the drops from mobs, the gold from fraktals/dungeons, etc. will sum up if I really want to go for it and don’t get distracted.
The small solid gold rewards, the festival bags, PvE-Farms, etc. make all the things on the TP, from dyes to legendaries, from skins to QoL stuff, available for everyone, given enough time invested, i.e. the game gets played. And that’s what keeps a game healthy. Not ppl who log in, buy what they want, then go back to afk’ing/flipping at the lava lounge. Also I don’t think that the 1%’ers are the same ppl who buy gems for RL-cash which is actually supporting ANet and the game.

I tried to find the image where theres a rich guy, a middle class guy and a poor guy at a table with some money on it. The rich dude grabs the lot of it with only few coins left, then turns to the middle class guy and tells him to be weary of the poor guy, he might steal the middle class guy’s money. Your post reminded me a lot of it. If you want to do something for the 99%, take your wealth and manipulate the system so that mystic coins don’t cost 1g, then I’ll thank you. Sell your stacks of leather for a 4th of what it’s going for now, then you’re doing something for the community of the game. Stop bunkering mats and spread them over tyria, the average player has a larger need in mats as only the 1%’ers care for a well filled wallet.

In a nutshell: You’re rich, we know now. Have fun with it. But don’t ask for our sympathy. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re doing anything for the community. You’re doing it for yourself, which is legit I think, but don’t expect our praise. Now buy me something nice, always wanted to have that Greatsaw Skin

[Suggestion] Black Fractal Weapons

On a personal note, I’m always in for black…but I’d appreciate it more if ANet gave us golden fractal backpieces first.

On a more serious note, just make weapons dyeable. Or what will be next after introducing black fractal weapons? Green ones, red ones, purple ones? And who will decide what color should be the most expesive? If I want say a red fractal Hammer, why does it cost me x times the mats a regular blueish would cost, what’s the justification, why am I punished for wanting the red one instead of the green one? you get the idea

- Make all/more utility skills available UW…in the case of Rev, make the Elite available.
- Remove the Aquabreather and merge it with the helmet, or make the Aquabreather actually do something, i.e. you lose air when UW and the better your breather the slower you lose it(from the top of my head, probably not exactly what I want)
- Find a way to signal key skills you and/or enemy mobs use similar to “the big filled orange circles” we see a lot since HoT.
- Make the deep sea dark and dangerous
- Add a mastery line for UW(global not "only in maps X, Y, and Z) that let’s you: swim faster, cross/enter strong currents(not the map boundaries of course), see in the deep sea, find hidden treasure, whatnot.
- Make UW a PvE only thing until PvP’ers and WvW’ers really scream for it, then think about it again and then maybe implement it into the other modes.

Describing new matchmaking: "Poop show"

in PvP

Posted by: lokh.2695

lokh.2695

So in summary you’re saying:
1) Total Games played should be factored into/against MMR somehow or…
2) Rabbit to Dragon should be factored into/against MMR somehow and…
3) Progress to Ascended Gear should only occur on Victory.

…(if the answer to those is yes then co-signed).

Yes.

I’ve been plaing PvP regularly during the last 3.5 years, doing daylies, sometimes playing more, sometimes less. I have something around 4k matches played and a wlr slightly below 50%. I play for the fun of it, the AP and the rewards I get from it.

I’m an average player, sure. I play classes only for the AP/rewards/titles, even if I’m not overly skilled using them, sure. But I know a thing or two about PvP, things you can’t know when you’re taking your first steps into the mode. I took those steps in Hotjoin, then moved on to unranked, because there were more AP/rewards in it and I felt I could carry my weight.

I sticked to unranked, until the seasons started. Since S2, skipped S1 for Fractals and HoT mostly, I played ranked during the seasons, got the backpiece and lots of AP on the way…good times. Matchmaking was ok, the pips became frustrating though when I reached my skillcap, you know, the point when you win-lose-win-lose constantly.

As much as I enjoy getting asceded rewards for mere participation, I think it gives the wrong incentive. If rewards were win based, it would encourage players to get better. As it is today, it encourages you to be there, that’s all. I know I want to carry my own weight, but I also know I don’t actually have to.
Sure, getting that sweet ascended loot takes three times as long if you gather pips with losses, but then again it also gives you time to watch a movie, check your social media or fill out tax forms…

Selfless Potion, will it be obtainable again?

in Living World

lokh.2695

Alright so let’s rephrase. You might have been there and if the item would have been a reward for being present at the time, you should have gotten it and if you haven’t you should send ANet a report that you have missed something you are eligible for.

But…the item was not a reward for being there, but for doing the achievement, which you didn’t, for whatever reason. So why should you get an item, meant as a reward for an achievement, which you didn’t do?

You prioritized RL over a vdeo game, which is a smart choice, but by doing so, by deciding to do RL stuff, you also decided to not play video games by which you also decided to not get the rewards.

Players who have the item, have it because they did the achievement. Why should having a few laurels/karma/gold/whatever to spend entitle you to the item in the same way some one who did the achievemet earned it?

PvP Ascended Farming Bad Idea

in PvP

lokh.2695

I’m also not supporting PvE rewards for PvP content.

But on the other hand, what would be PvP rewards anyway? Decorations for your GH? A fancy title or a tag next to your nameplate?

Having this sort of rewards would make perfectly sense for WvW, but hardly makes any sense for PvP. Yes I get that it’s ought to pull new blood into PvP, and maybe it even works like this. But handing out ascended gear, all the gear, all the stas, everything, for mere participation will lead to lots of players clogging up the season who don’t really care for the game mode. If you only got pips on victory, this wouold be a different story…

We’ve had this once already, when the PvE AP-hunters invaded WvW during the first and second WvW season. Lot’s of AP were to be had along with fancy skins(still not in the game now 2 or 3 years later) and some gold. No one was giving a kitten about the WvW community and how the game was played, ppl just filled up the borderlands to grind out achis.

But those are not the only ppl doing said content. Luckily the game provides a LFG-Tool which lets you specify the kind of pl you’re looking for as well as the language. Worst fractal?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: lokh.2695

lokh.2695

I’ve been playing a lot of Fractals, before HoT, after the expansion and after the recent set of changes to the content.

I have to admit that everything has improved. I’m not saying this as a fanboy, I’m usually very skeptical and I’m used to seeing “both sides of the medal”, but the changes they made to Fractals, starting from the new lobby, to changes in desing of the encounters or the instabilities, have fully improved at least my experience of the content.

Sure, you can’t faceroll t4 swamp anymore, but you can still learn the encounter, get better at it, and eventually pug it in a reasonable amount of time. As I see it, the changes were made to keep things challenging in higher tiers while culling on all the “swampland-level” boring and mind numbing button mashing. And they did quite well imho.

They fine tuned the instabilities to still offer an added challenge but without beeing overly frustrating. They removed movement impending stuff from “Afflicted”, removed stability from “No pain, no gain” and all the other little things they chamged to make it challenging but enjoyable.

However. Worst Fractal at the moment would be Underground Facility. The part with the doors still depends too much on what classes you have in your team. From a mechanical perspective the Fractal is quite good and imaginative, so I wouldn’t want to change that. And I would add a closed door to the boss room which opens after you killed the mobs in the hallway leading up to the room. Just for added loot and because the ice elemtals follow your team a long way into the boss room.

I’d love it if they “fixed” UW combat…or at least, if they showed a little interest in maybe looking into keeping it on the table when the time’s right…

UW combat, the possibility to explore the underwater regions of the world, makes the game feel more “alive” or “real”. I understood when they kicked UW out of PvP and WvW. But in PvE, where balance is a far less delicate issue? I was really disapointed when they announced that there would be no UW regions in HoT.

So yes. Give us Steve/SBubbles. Give us lakes and oceans with underwater caves and cities. Give us the Largos. Give us an impressive/flashy legendary harpoon gun. All that.

Capes... Again

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t get why anyone would want a cape. I know, to each their own and it’s a question of personal taste, still, why would I want to equip a piece of gear that covers almost everything of my char that is visible to me while playing the game? Why trade 8 pieces of flashy/pretty/epic attire for one?

I get the “but GW1 had capes and nostalgia and back in the days” approach, but maybe it’s time to move on. GW1 also had the disability to jump or dodge, want that back as well?(has nothing to do with capes, but not everything was better “back in the old days”, kind reminder)

If ANet made them cultural to all races but Charr, or made them Human-only, they’d invite themself to be kittenstormed for excluding the Charr from those new shinies or to beeing accused for pushing the “human(-female-) meta”.

At least it’s not a mount-thread.

What keeps you playing (PvP)?

I enjoy the game mode more than WvW and play some PvP everyday when my guild has nothing going on in PvE.

It’s fun and “something different” for me to do, when I’m not running fractals, dungeons or other PvE stuff.

I’m in it for the AP as well. The seasons never bothered me appart from the AP and the legendary backpiece because I don’t see myself as a competitive player.

[Suggestion] Mounts in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

lokh.2695

This again?
Ok.
10- Lots of dead horse beating gifs and images.

this.

Magic I assume.

Sorry but that’s all I got on the vids I’m looking for. Does it help that I think both narrators had terrible british accents, first probably real, second probably fake?

Hi there,

about two or maybe even three years ago, some random dude/gal posted a video on YT, promoting a site, where you could get “all exclusive” hints and tricks that “will get you all the fame and money you’d ever want” in just a few sessions.
There was a part where the narrator claimed that “he probably shouldn’t even tell you this” and all sorts of talk like this….

I’m not looking for that one

I’m looking for a vid that was posted in reaction, mocking the original vid and ending with “roll a guardian and faceroll to greatness” or something along those lines.

I’m looking for that one.

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance

Daily points capped at 15000.

Since they’re giving 2g now they are pretty much pushing ppl to do dailies again. Admitted, the dailies changed from then to now quite a bit and are now encouraging ppl to play different game modes/play what they enjoy for the daily better than when the cap was intoduced.

The “they need to develop more skins” argument is not that solid as there are enough skins for up to 47k, if they stick to the formula of “a skin every thousand AP, an armor peice every three thousand”. So there’s still room/time to develop things and at the rate we see new skins hit the gemstore, I don’t think it would take them much to develop skins for another 20 or 30k worth of AP rewards

In all honesty, at this point where I don’t think that they’ll remove the cap. I’d be a happy camper if I got an Achivement for reaching the cap, maybe 25 or 50 AP, and a title to show off that I reached the cap.

This thread is relevant to my interests…

28.8k AP here, reached the cap a month or so ago.

I’m a bit divided on the cap. I can understand the reasoning they had when they implemented it, the whole “newer player catching up” idea, the “AP hunters may get stressed” idea did’t wrk out for me, never did, never will. But as I’m aiming for the radiant armor, it would have been nice just getting there in a forseeable amount of time doing dailies.

Yes, I’m an AP hunter. And yes, missing a daily when it gave me AP was sort of “stressful” and the thought of “whatever, i’ll just rech the cap a day later now” helped a bit with that. But I was always well aware, that it was self imposed “stress”. “Stress” I willingly accepted when I chose “having lots of AP and a shiny to go with it” as my long term goal for this game. I don’t understand players who identify this sort of “stress” as a problem outside of themselves that is ANet’s business to fix/handle/adress.

The problem with the “newer players catching up” idea is, that it does not make sense with the amount of AP they hand out nowadays.
The “core AP”(like weapon masteries, slayer-achivements, story stuff, crafting achivements, regular PvP/WvW/EotM achivements etc.) are the same for all players. The vets have them and the new players can get them.
The AP that come with new content can be done by the Vets(if they’re still playing oc) and the newer players alike.
The historical stuff from back in the days, on the other hand, is gone for newer players. Unobtainalbe, not an option, gone.
Now, the historical stuff from back in the days that is no longer available for newer players used to net way more AP than what they put out now. Flame and Frost gave 148AP, Secret of Southsun gave (me at least) 155AP, Escape from Lion’s Arch 96AP and so on. Wheras Gates of Maguma had 38AP or Out of the Shadows giving 73AP.

Newcomers will only catch up to vets, if the vets stop playing new content. If the vets need to stop playing anyway so new players can catch up, the cap didn’t do much. If the cap doesn’t help newer players to catch up on players who did the old stuff and still are playing the game, the cap can be removed and I get my shiny armor faster.

Or, the cap would make a lot more sense, if the average chapter of a LS would still net between 90 and 150AP.

(I think the way it is now, people pay for what they want by gems/gold2gems, is the best solution for a game like this. If you want to have those things, or anything really, given to you on a monthly basis, make a monthly gem purchase and buy what you’d like to have it. I don’t understand the difference between what was suggested by the OP and what would happen if OP just bought some gems every month to get gold/gems for the bonus they want. I deem the second superior, because what if 6 months from now, you don’t want the minis or dyes anymore. With the proposed Sub-Bonus you’d still get them. With the current model, you can still make your monthly/weekly purchase of Gems and buy whatever suits you at the moment, maybe it’s Skins, maybe its materials for a crafting item. Much more flexible…
The only thing that would be different would be the fact that you’d have everything delivered to you at the first of the month or whatever and you’d spare some clicks and maybe 15min of time…)

Why do ppl on the forums like to predict things about the ppl on the forums?

Not that you’re wrong. Of course there will be the usual “That’s all?”, “X is so broken!!!” and “What? I’m supposed to play the content to get the rewards?” threads. And of course there will be a vocal minority on here complaining that they no-lifed this first chapter along with the new fractal and the new PvP mapwithin a few hours. Not hard to predict this.

7) LS3 sets up the stage for the next expansion. In a year or so we’ll be voting on either A ) Kralk, the Crystal Desert and Charr stuff or B ) Jormag, Shiverpeaks and Norn stuff to be the core storyline.

So no jubilee celebrating 10 years of rule, but the Pavillion. Maybe it will be more like the next festival and not part of the first LS3 release. There’s the Queen’s Juilale in the brewmaster collection, that’s mostly why i think we could see it again. Plus part of the story is heading towards Kryta and there’s something to celebrate.
…And i really want to test myself against Liadri again, preferably not nerfed, better if returned to original difficulty even.

Ardenwolfe, there’s nothing to win at all and sure as heck not with things that come as a given with ANet and the forums

1. We will get Queens Jubilee and the White Mantle will disturb it. Caudecus will try to usurp the Krytan throne but we will save the day. The Jubilee will bring back the Crown Pavillion, along with all we hate and love about it, only Liadri will be further nerfed so everyone gets the mini.
2. We will discover that Rytlock met Prince Rurik in the mist and got his Ok to free the ascalonian Ghosts. Rytlock does so by channeling Rurik and performing the ritual again.
3. Taimii is the mysterious Asura messing with Fraktals, maybe its Bizarroworld- or Future-Taimii.
4. If it should not be Taimii, it’s prob our Asura characters from an alternate universe.
5. No new WvW Season/Event/Whatsoever.
6. 6 Months from now, they will have nerfed the Raid so everybody and their mothers can do it.
