Well, there goes any desire I had to buy the expansion. The tradeoff for our terrible mobility is supposed to be that disengaging from a fight with us is hard. This has never, ever been the case, since people with the mobility to give chase are always going to be harder to get away from than slowboat Necros. However, this new change tells me that they are unaware of the above, and we can’t expect to see any changes that would address this, as they have chosen instead to make the situation worse.

So yeah. Not interested in buying or playing again, not with this BS.

This is Anet showing their true colors. They want people to play all parts of the game, as long as those parts aren’t WvW. I’m sure WvW is an important part of the game to them, and that’s why they make sure it is less important, less required, and less rewarding in every possible way than PvE or PvP.

I don’t want to kill the brainstorming….. but, there are no new weapon types being added in Heart of Thorns. Though, specializations will allow professions to use existing weapon types which they currently cannot use.

No new weapons? Oh so disappointing

Discovering Goemm’s Lab during the pre-release. Me and a couple buddies were leveling in Metrica, and exploring like crazy as we went. Didn’t even know there were jumping puzzles in GW2. We found this little cave obscured by plants, and kept following it, and ended up on floating rocks up in the sky, not knowing what we were doing or where it would lead us. Ah, good memories.

The chests need to only be available during the cooldown period after The Breach. Even leaving the ridiculousness of the shovel zerg aside, they still encourage people to run past/ignore events where assistance is needed just to grab the next chest.

1.) That raid rewards provide no additional gameplay options or advantages in any aspect of the game outside of raiding.

2.) That lore and story content included in raids be accessible to the entire player base, and not just the top 5-10% completing raids. A story mode that does not give raid unique achievements or cosmetic rewards would do well for this.

3.) That raid design takes into account and adjusts for the following:

Let’s assume that because raiding would be a very new type of content for the game that it’s possible for us to re-write the principles of the game that we have seen so far.

That’s…. a bit scary to hear. I’m sure it’s intended in reference to game mechanics and encounter design, but I can’t help but read it as relating to rewards and the dreaded specter of gear progression. I’d like some reassurances that it doesn’t.

My only real contribution here is regarding Rewards. It seems like people have mostly been asking for cosmetic rewards (skins, achievements, titles), which is good. However, if there do end up being any raid exclusive consumables, or runes/sigils, or anything else of that nature that is not so much more powerful as it is different (but still has an effect on gameplay, please please please disable it completely in WvW. Cosmetic rewards I have no issue with, but raiding needs to provide no unique benefits in other areas of the game.

I wish more people were in the know about this. Its not just that she is in a lead position, its that about the same time she came aboard, Nexon bought a large stake in NCsoft. Which for those that do not know was towards the end of beta. Which all goes along with the design goals up till that point being in stark contrast to what we have gotten since the game went live.

This to me is like Nexon found a game that had a great reputation from its predecessor with a large fan base and then bought it with the sole purpose of milking it for as much money as they can, even if it kills the game. Then moving on to the next project. Kind of like what Nexon does with every other game they have been involved with.

This is what makes me mad about GW2. It was a great game with the potential to go strong for years. The Nexon mentality is to make as much money as fast as possible for the short term, with as little investment as possible. It makes the few people at the top a lot of money but it doesn’t create games that go strong for years.

Quoting this for emphasis to ANET, because all this time I’ve generally considered the above sort of commentary to be conspiracy theory nonsense, and though not always happy with the decisions made by ANET have more or less trusted them. This latest change, along with the blatantly false excuse about it being for new players (who, again, would not have enough gold to take advantage of it), have made me change my mind on that.

Regardless of your reasoning for making this change, and regardless of whatever PR spin you’re going to put on it, you need to take a hard look at how badly this change is eroding player trust. At this point, even if you completely reverted it, I don’t think it would fix everything. I know there’s a good chance after this I’ll always be wondering with every change whether you guys view us as actual players, or just ambulatory wallets.

Several other people have brought it up, but the lowest amount of gems available to buy with gold being 400 does not make sense with this supposedly being for new players, as new players aren’t generally going to have that kind of money. The explanations given for this don’t exactly add up…

Suggestion: an option to, when I give you real money for Gems, convert every last Gem to Gold if I so wish.

I will not be purchasing Gems again until this is available, sad to say, as this is the main reason I ever did purchase them in the first place.

Please answer, how does leaving those of us who purchase Gems to convert to Gold with stuck some random amount of change that we can’t convert makes things “easier” or more “convenient”? If there’s nothing in the Gem Store I want or can afford with that change, and I was spending real dollars specifically to convert to gold, then as far as I’m concerned you would be stealing my money at that point. You’d certainly be taking it from me and putting it into a form which is not usable until I’ve spent yet more money, which given the numbers I’m seeing will just start that cycle all over again. How is this even remotely good for the player? How is taxing every purchase I make, by preventing me from converting every last Gem I buy into Gold if that is my wish and thus sticking me with unusable Gems, helpful at all?

I’m trying to keep as calm as I can about this, but seriously, if you want constructive suggestions then you guys need to keep to making constructive changes to the game. This is a blatant money grab.

So much disappointment, really.. why limit the exchange rate to 400 gems? just what happened to you GW2?, every single time an update arrives, there’s always a reason to feel either sad or angry because of poor made decisions like these. It’s going to be a sad halloween and I don’t even want to imagine what’s coming next.. Pay2Win model at full force? labor points? -_-

The final portion of the VIP system appeared in the data files with this patch. The next feature patch will almost certainly contain the P2W VIP system that is currently in china.

We have been slowly moving this way for a long time now. Once the game started to decline they shifted more and more resources into pumping the game for cash. It is almost in full cash cow mode now. The actual content gets fewer and farther apart, but gem store gets faster and more “inclusive” and eventually you need to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars to keep up.

I will hand it to Anet, they did it slow enough that anyone who pointed out the change was charged with “slippery slope” or “straw man” fallacies, and shouted down.

With the NPE and the gem changes they are finally in the home stretch. Once we get VIP the path to the dark side will be complete.

Same here. Never thought much of all “conspiracy theories”, but now… well, there’s really no other explanation for this change. It certainly doesn’t simplify the process of converting gems to gold, unless being left with random loose change in gems from your expenditure of real $$ is somehow considered “simpler” than being able to convert all of your purchased gems for gold. Coming from the Gems to Gold side of things, this is a complete CF.

Ugh. Having bought gems to convert to gold in the past, this is just awful. If I’m dumping $10.00 into the game to get me some imaginary money, I want to convert all of that to imaginary money. Instead, now I’m left with some remainder amount of gems left over, since I can only trade for even increments of gold.

I guess I should be thanking them really, as they’ve just guaranteed I won’t be buying gems again. Thanks for looking out for me and helping me save money like that ANET. You’re the best.

So, since John updated his options, I’ll change my preferred solution to 2.5, as it provides the most concrete method by which to circumvent the RNG. Looking at this discussion I guess I must be weird, since “random” and “rewarding” just don’t mix for me at all. Then again, I mostly play WvW so I pretty much gave up on being rewarded for my in game activities a long time ago =P

I am probably the worst sort of person to ask about this, as I don’t consider a random chance of getting good things to be a “reward”, don’t see it as an incentive to do anything, and in fact see purely RNG reward systems as a good reason not to participate in something. Basically, I’m pretty much hostile to the whole concept of RNG “rewards”.

That said, from my perspective option 2 is by far superior. It provides a concrete measure by which someone like myself can feel time/effort is rewarded.

This right here is symptomatic of what I consider to be the biggest balance problem with Necros currently. We are supposed to be low mobility, and have a hard time engaging and disengaging from fights. The flip-side to this is that we are supposed to be difficult to disengage from, and be good at the sort of attrition fights this design leads to. Right now, running from a Necro (or at a Necro, in the case of the OP’s problem) is as easy as you could ask for, and we’re only vaguely passable at attrition fights. We’re getting all of the negatives of this element of design philosophy, and little to none of the positives. I’d be interested to hear whether this design philosophy has changed or whether they’ve simply failed to follow through on half of it, but can’t say that I ever expect to.

It’s the people that don’t know how to reset a fight, are unwilling to, or haven’t yet learned why, that should understand that this is a valid tactic used by all classes in the game, and for a thief it’s oftentimes necessary to survive.

Oh man, too true. Those Necros with their high mobility hijinx, constantly resetting fights…

Bit of a derail, but I can’t stand this particular claim. If we’re talking WvW, the truth is that if they run away they can just keep resetting the fight endlessly until they find favorable conditions.

This is P2W, plain and simple. And is making me regret all of my past purchases, which were made in good faith that ANET would not go down this path. Leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. As long as every single other profession can just run away and reset until we start the fight at zero LF, Deathshroud isn’t exactly a problem. Well, it’s a problem for Necros since we give up any other kind of sustain in return for an ability that can be countered by someone just lacing up their running shoes before the fight. But yeah, the thing you’re looking to complain about is the current absurd state of Condi Bunkers in general, not DS.

Something to keep in mind on Ele Earth A/A is that it is the only A/A skill which is a 100% projectile combo finisher. I can’t say that it justifies the current state of the skill, but it is something to bear in mind when asking for buffs. Also, I can’t say that I’d want the detonation CD on Eruption lowered too much, as I love dropping it and then slapping combo fields on top of it. Lower it by more than a second and you’d ruin that XD

You know, I’m going to change my #3 Dislike to the Condi Bunker festival that roaming currently is, with 3 bullets under that for:

  1. Condi Warrior
  2. Condi Engi
  3. PU Mesmer

Tempted to include Necro on there, but I’ve at least had some luck against them. The three above tend to make solo roaming just a depressing slog whenever you run into them.

I heard warriors are getting lightsabers that one hit kill anything and block all projectiles, but it’s okay because it has a long animations that make the attacks easy to dodge :P

Add a non-condition debuff (let’s call it “Dead Weight”) that prevents targets from using leap/teleport/spin-off-into-the-sunset skills for the duration. Put it at the end of DS5, or perhaps some other appropriate location (though that is I think the best place for it).
