because it has never happened that something has been op in gw2 or any other game. everything is just perfectly balanced and all the developers have been guided by god to make every game perfect. when i started playing this game, steal could crit and assassins signet gave a 50% boost on next hit. if you crit your steal, use your signet and backstab, you could do about a 13k backstab, 4k steal and 1k air sigil = 18k dmg in about 0,5 sec. guess what, people said it was op and they wore right. i was and still am a thief main and i had no problems with that being nerfed.

skyhammer making it in the ranked map pool is the worst thing that has ever happened to this game. and i have been around when steal could crit and assassins signet gave a 50% dmg increase on hit. and i have been around when the expansion came out and nobody could die. sure, skyhammer is a lot better than it used to be, but it is still the most kittened map in the map pool. i just dont get it how pve crap like jump pads can make it into pvp. do you check any of the decisions you make with your payer base? have you ever talked to pro players and asked them what they think about the jump pads and about skyhammer being in ranked map pool? have you ever read your own pvp forums? skyhammer is the most discussed map on the forums and most of the comments on the map are negative. remove the map from the ranked map pool now!!!

dh has no place in competitive play and is absolutely dominating in pub games, especially when 2-3 of them are stacked. so the dh class design fails across the board.

Revenant, Scrapper, Chrono, Tempest, Reaper, Druid, DD, DH, Warrior. The bottom two are not arguable. Any of the others you could make a case for slight variations.

Being unable to recognize these kinds of things show why you belong at the bottom.

no, that sounds like solo q, which is exactly what this thread is about, solo q and DH stacking in solo q. and about DH being the new turret engi, low skill requirement, insane dps output. press a few buttons and win, all you have to do is stay on the node and place traps. like turret engi used to do before he got stomped in the ground.

He is trying to say that you are unable to progress because you are not good enough to do so, and that is working as intended.

Based on the fact that you called DH overpowered when they are actually the 8th worst class, I am likely to agree with that assessment.

lol DH the 8th worst class. tell that to thieves and wars. and are you talking esports or pub games? cause the OP made it clear that he is a solo player (like 90% of the pvp community) and DH wreck faces in solo q. especially when there are multiple DH on one team. how about you make some tests? me and my friend have concluded (based on experience) that the number victories you get in solo q is directly related to the amount of DH there is on your and the enemy team. more DH in your team = victory in solo q. test it for yourself.

I said that because his post was mostly whining because he doesn’t know how to counter classes and has overall 0 knowledge about thief for example. 95% sure he is just awful at the game or simply super titled.

Hey all,

We’ve been discussing potential improvements to existing PvP maps, and we wanted to get your thoughts on some ways that Skyhammer could be updated to be a less of a frustrating gameplay experience.

So, what would you change? What would you keep the same?

first of all, the map is so much different (the fall off the map mechanic) from all the other maps that it needs to have its own q. since it is likely that it would not be popular enough to justify having its own q (on the other hand, i think that courtyard would become popular if it had its own q, like stronghold does), the only option you have is to remove the fall off the map mechanic completely. the map requires you to run a bunch of stability and launch/knockback so you would need to change your build every time you play it and that is just crap, it is best to remove the fall mechanic. 2nd thing is PLEASE REMOVE THE kitten ED JUMP PADS!!!!! i mean what is wrong with stairs?? they dont work properly (making jumps in combat often makes you fail the jump), they interrupt skills and are just overall annoying and make the map feel as it was designed for unreal tournament.

Omg, why does it have to be by default?? OMG, these post are getting down right stupid. I mean Anet gives you the choice to customized your skill bar so why do you want a stun break by default?? And even if they did, what make you think it’s going to suddenly increase build diversity?? You are dangerously underestimating our psyche, because people want to win. Even if they implemented what you’ve asked, people would still use the next OPEST build.

i dont always the play opest build and many other people also do not (and you dont too probably). even the pros get bored of the same build and play something else that is not the opests atm (say like phanta liked to sometimes play the old fresh air ele over dd ele while streaming). all i am saying that it would be nice if i could consider taking bulls charge instead of defy pain while still keeping the ability to stun break. or taking arcane thievery over blink etc. a lot of utilities, like judges intervention for example) are really strong even without the stun break abilities they have. i can never consider taking bane signet over judges intervention. but if i could keep my stun break ability i might consider bane signet. sure you would have to tune some abilities that would be pure crap without the stun break effect (like balanced stance for example), but overall it would help the other less popular (and more crappy utility spells to become more interesting and see an increase in use.

i think that if you removed all stun break and stability effect from all utility skills (and class skills and traits) and give every class a stun breaker and a stability by default (say a 25 sec cd stun breaker and a 40sec cd 5 sec 5 stack stability for example), it would promote the use of some underused utility skills, encourage build diversity and generally improve balance. of course that would require changing a lot of utility skills with stability and stun break effects (not that the rest of the utility skills could not use some work) and i still dont see some completely useless skills (like thief traps for example) gaining popularity, but i think that it would generally be a good thing. the way things are right now, there is just no reason to go for glyphs over cantrips, or physicals over stances etc. even with the proposed changes, i think that some currently popular utility skills would remain more popular than all the other alternatives (like stances, shadow arts and cantrips).

another idea i got is introducing more block + counterattack skills into the game (like the ranger greatsword 4 or warrior mace 2), it would make reading your opponent and anticipating his moves a more important part of the game and make the game play more entertaining, at least from my perspective. also, giving every counterattack a brief stun would make things even more interesting. i always found it very satisfying to block a backbreaker with ranger gs 4 and and than knock the war down. or getting my backstab blocked by ranger gs 4, noticing it in time and dodging the 5-6k counterattack. giving every weapon a 6th counterattack skill would do the trick nicely i think.

so recently i lost a game 500-0. Nobody was afk or dc, my team was just that much worse. I played the match with my friend, both of us are r80. so as i struggled to farm up 5 points of personal score, i asked the people in my team about their rank, and one of them replied 46. so can someone explain to me the logic of placing r46 players in the same match as r80 players? i got 6230 pvp games and i have been r80 for 2 years, why am i playing with or against r46 players? matchmaking sucks!!!

I just finished a match in which my team lost 500-0. It was just one of many huge losses tonight. My alt account is rapidly falling toward a win rate under 30%.

While I admit I’m not a terribly hot PvP player, I’m in my fourth year in the game and I’m not that bad. I have a pvp 80 on my main which I earned primarily in Ranked. My lifetime win rate on my main is a bit over 45% even after the turret engi flood in the last tournament.

Devs, matchmaking is not working. You need to correct it. If things continue this way, the PvP population will be further reduced which will compound the problem.

the crap that people write as replies is completely unbelievable. you clearly make a rock solid argument. when you state that you get about a 45% win rate on your main account and get a 30% win rate on alt account, all that is left for people to do is compare those 2 numbers and draw conclusions. and what do people conclude? you suck. l2p issue. pro players have about 65%. its like people only come to these forums because they get blocked in game when they call other people noobs. nobody can conclude that you should get higher win rates on alt accounts than on your main account, no matter how good or bad you are.

and btw, YOU ARE COMPLETELY RIGHT, matchmaking has not been such bs since december last year.

loosing streaks

I have been seeing these kind of threads lately a lot, usually they get deleted or locked, but i dont care, i am angry and i want to rant. so atm i got 11 losses in a row and this is the 4th time during the last month or so that i got a 9+ games loosing streak. i also had a 9 game win streak but that happened only once. i dont know what is going on and i dont care, i want it fixed. i suspect it has something to do with gw2 going free to play but i cant be sure. i have been playing since beta and the only time i saw such things happen is last year in december, after the patch that everyone “liked a lot”. a few games ago i had a situation where the enemy team was able to open the match on legacy by capping 2 nodes and sending 2 people to kill our lord, without ever loosing any of their nodes (and i was paying attention, nobody was dc or afk). i actually offered gold to people to tell me their rank but only one man agreed the offer.

Matchmaking is always trying to make 50/50 matches. There is no active streak-prevention built into matchmaking other than the fact that your MMR adjusts each game. Since you’ve been playing so much, your MMR is ‘certain’ and changes slowly. It has certainly adjusted over the course of the weekend, though.

I suggest watching your game history via a site like http://gw2efficiency.com/account/pvp that uses our new PvP API. This way you know exactly what streaks you’re on.

Edit: Both your streaks were when you played Engineer, which has a lower profession MMR than your account and other professions. Looks like you win more often on Thief

first of all, i also just had loss streak of 8 games. what is the point of profession mmr if i can reroll another profession after the game starts? i found that my strongest profession is reroll. if i see bunch of guards i expect to se a bunch of burning and since guards stomp thiefs anyaway, i reroll a necro so that i transfer burning back to them. if i see a bunch of thiefs i reroll a guard cause guards stomp thiefs regardless of the build you run. i dont see any point in having profession mmr, but knowing that such things exist, i will definitely be starting all my matches with a thief in order to avoid playing with newbies.

id imagine coming composed about complaints would make anets jobs easier than having to scroll thru the baseless whining. the game has been quite functional for the 3 years its been out but with the expac i expect yet another wave of whiners to leave as soon as they come into the game, research the game before you buy it. try wvw, pvp or spvp if you already dislike pve (as stated). complaining about pve and still doing it is a catch 22 and on you reguardless. we dont all want fluffy unicorns, princess.

by far the worst reply in the comment section. 0 arguments for or against my proposal. random talk about nothing and fluffy unicorns.

until you realize they are teleport/jailer/desecrate elites

i have not played diablo 3, but having teleporting mobs that can cc you or hit big crits would surely force you to think about your full zerker for all pve content policy. that fact alone would make things more interesting. that is my perspective, i know that a lot of people like it just the way it is, but i see no reason why we cant have both. different zones, different pve content.

I dislike baseball, so here what I would do to make this sport more fun…..

i do not dislike pve, i just dislike mmorpg pve, because everyone is trying to copy the wow success formula and make money. i also do not dislike shooters, but i dislike counterstrike and all of its clones. the situation we have in mmorpg is that every game is a counterstrike (wow) clone. and i never said anet should base their pve design on my preferences, if you read my post you will notice that i said that they should add a zone for people with different pve preferences.

people that like baseball style gameplay but do not like baseball can play cricket or softball. in mmorpgs, you do not have alternatives when it comes to pve, everything is wow style repetitive pve. gw1 was one of the first mmorpg games to introduce a no subscription model and to introduce a pvp system that does not force you to grind pve. i dont see any reason why gw2 should not be the first mmorpg to introduce non repetitive pve zones.

Yeah you’ve not played in the level 80 maps much have you. The mordem in SW/later parts of DT are alot harder to deal with on your own.

yes i did play them but not a lot, because i found them boring, repetitive and not challenging. i realize a lot of the people want it just that way but i am pointing out that there are some of us who dont. that does not mean that i want the all of the content to be changed, just some content to be added for people with different preferences when it comes to pve.

Have you not played in Orr or Drytop/Silverwastes? Because some of the mobs do what you describe.

did not played drytop but i did play silverwastes and orr. the mobs i describe are from another game (poe) and they are nowhere to be found in gw2 (or any other mmorpg), at least i have never seen them. they are basically generic mobs but they use multiple player abilities and some unique abilities and auras and can be quite challenging and certainly do not allow you to kill them without paying a lot of attention to what you and they are doing.

first of all i need to say that i am not a pve player (not in mmorpgs anyway). i played pve and leveled up my first char by doing pve only, and i found it boring and repetitive, just like i found pve boring in every other mmorpg i played in my life. i used to literally fall asleep during wow dungeons and wake up a few hours later. now i know that a lot of people enjoy repetitive and easy content, you can enter a sort of meditative state where your brain is not working under a 100% load and experience pleasure from that relaxing state, but that makes me just fall asleep. i need my brain to be under some load in order to have fun in video games in general. i know that fractals are supposed to be the solution for players that want challenging pve content but i found them boring and repetitive as well.

so here is the suggestion i have that would make pve content interesting for people that have similar problems with pve content in mmorpgs: introduce randomly generated elite mobs. give them multiple randomly generated traits like: increased speed, big crits, explode on death, leap attack, teleport, damage/speed aura for allies, hp regen aura, reflect damage etc. a game that does that really good in my opinion is path of the exile. every boss (except those standard scripted story bosses) has randomly generated traits and that very simple mechanic makes pve a LOT more interesting from my perspective. i am not saying that you should take away the fun from the people that enjoy slow paced, grindy and repetitive content, i am just saying that you should add some areas (like silverwastes) and some dungeons for players that dont like bosses/mobs that you can memorize and beat every time using the same sequence of actions and that do not want to skip thru dungeons by running past mobs or use various exploits in order to get to the end faster and get a chest and some gold.

can we please tone down the dmg? i mean its completely ridiculous people are getting popped like soda cans. its not just mesmers popping people, kittene is flying all over the place and people are getting downed from 100% in a matter of 1 sec. i mean i can stack 2k burning ticks with a marauder medi guard with 0 condi dmg. my war has 2,7k power (along with 31k hp, 3k armor and 37%crit with permafury), my ranger is popping people like crazy with quickdraw+rapid fire. the whole kitten ed game is on steriods.

on the other hand, my thief cant have more than 2,3k power (unless i do silly stuff like assassins signet or bloodlust sigil), but that is a different subject

pro tip: personal score is useless (except in the event of a draw), it is by no means an indicator of your performance in game. do not use it to try to measure your skill against to others. you get considerably more personal score points for killing a person and than capping (35) a point than you would get if you forced a decap on a point and than killed the person defending it (25). in this case better performance equals less personal score.

Yet another epic game where my ground targeted aoe took few seconds to happen because i couldn’t find the cursor.

Dear a-net, i’ve just about had it with that ninja cursor of yours that in heat of battle is impossible to locate on more then one occasion. It’s not a major world changing, fix, so pretty please do something about it.
Especially with the widely tauted challenging content that’s to come with HoT. I wanna die when i screw up, not when i decide to slot aoe skill on my bar…

the solution is called: yolo mouse. google it. it makes everything good except the mouse still disappears when you rotate the camera.

It’s good practice to use click target at certain situations where tabbing doesn’t provide you the quick player target. Also helps when fighting mesmers or minion necro when there’s numerous targets to tab through.

if the mouse cursor was not so invisible that would make it easier. also necro clones and pets sometimes stack on the player and it is difficult to click him. if you are in a fight with mesmers, necros and rangers and you want to target the mesmer, it can be a problem, especially since he can use stealth and remove the call target marker, which forces you to try to click him again and again.

ccing pets kitten the owner, c&d on pet to stealth, teleport on pet to better position even if ranger is invis, slowing pet who is chasing you on 1 hp ower 9k range need more?

how often did you do any of these things? 3 times in your entire game experience? i recently used the thief steal on a mesmer clone to port to high ground. was the first time i ever found it necessary in over 4500 matches. i am just saying remove pets from select next target and select closest target, clicking on pets would still enable you to do those maneuvers with pets we all do so often.

i just created a necro and had a go in about 10 unranked matches and it was a complete disaster. everyone was completely ignoring the middle point every game for the entire match duration without even trying to contest it. i dont know how that matchmaking works but from now on i will be entering the q with my main class and than switching to necro.

why am i able to target enemy pets in pvp? what is the point of that? has anyone ever been in a situation where it was vital for him to target a ranger or a necro pet? if you have to, leave the mesmer clone targeting on, but remove the ability of pets to show up as my target when i press select next target or select closest target.

There are two reasons why turret engis are still effective and why the players in this game are simply terrible – sorry can’t put this lightly it is the sad truth

1- The inability to adapt – I want to play my build and play it my way I will not change if the enemy team is running something that I am ineffective against I would rather lose and complain on the forums

2- Attempting to fight on-point instead of using LoS – Why can players not understand that this is one of the most powerful strategies against turret engis, the AI is easily outsmarted if you use the terrain to your advantage yet I continuously see people run straight onto the point eating all the turrets damage and getting blown up

I have lost all hope for the average player in this game – simply not good enough to use either tactic – would rather make posts on forums

I can take out a turret engi with a full glass Mesmer/Ranger
Condi Necro/Engi
Most Warrior/Guardian Builds

The only class that is sort of screwed is the Thief because all of its damage is melee and its ranged pressure is very weak but a Thief should not really be attempting to 1v1 anyway especially a point that is already capped by the opponent

i main thief and i am sick of having to leave the node every time i see a turret engi. not to mention when there are 3-4 of them that basically means i have to leave all nodes. it seems that you dont have problems with being hard countered by someone just because he chose one class and i chose another, i prefer to be beaten by people that have better skills than me, not that pick a different calls/build.

and since you have learned to play the game, why dont you teach us how to handle situations where there is one turret engi holding the close node and another 2 of them holding the middle node?

Learn and adapt. Turret engis have their weaknesses like anything else. If they leave turrets at other points they are gimping themselves quite a bit in whatever pt they are actually fighting at.

what do you mean by adapt? do you mean change class/build every time you see engies in the enemy team? i dont feel the need to “adapt” when i see thiefs or rangers in the enemy team.

Can you explain your tactics against a turret engie on a point please? I’m a shatter mesmer and I can only get the ones that really suck. Thumper turret is a pain, I know I shouldn’t tried to beat it on the point but when there is more than one turret engie in a team I don’t see what I should do other than try to beat it.

Step 1: Take out the Rocket turret. It dies VERY fast and is the only thing between the engi and all the rest of his turrets, doing any significant damage.
Step2: Kill the engi. You say you are a Mesmer and thumper turret is hard? You are ranged…why are you standing on point? If he owns the point, there is no need for you to be on it until he is dead. If you own the point, engage him before he gets to the point.

Fun fact. Thumper turret has a very small range of knockback. It cannot cover the whole point. If it is in the center..just stay on the outsides of the point. If it is off centered, stay on the opposite side of the point.

Turret engis do hardly any damage. Their turrets do all the work (Rocket turret being 75% of all damage from all the turrets and Engi himself combined). Kill it and gg.

1. the rocket turret is not 75% of the engi dmg output
2. killing pets first is a bad idea against any class
3. have you ever tried to take out an engi turret? it has dmg reduction, crit immunity and condi immunity, it takes way too much time to kill them, and it is almost theoretically impossible to kill them if you play a condi build.

Rocket turret only makes up 75% of a bad turret engi’s damage. The rifle auto attack does the same amount of damage in the time the rocket turret fires a single shot. A engi that is not braindead will be hitting you with blunderbuss and jumpshot whenever they can.

agreed, and killing mobs/pets is a bad idea against any class. plus the turret has dmg resistance and crit/condi immunity, it takes waaaaay to much time to kill it.

does not work when they have 3-4 of the them and they are all over your nodes, not just their close. you cant just move away from all nodes and and expect to win.

i dont feel like changing my class/build every time i see an engi in the enemy team. and there is nothing you can do if they get 3-4 turret engi and know how to play them.

why does every video game has to have a heimerdinger? give the engi pets (golems for example) like all the other classes have. something that does not have damage resistance and can get hit with by conditions and cc. aside from having dmg resistance and condi/cc immunity, they also give the engi warp 10, meaning he can fight at all 3 nodes at the same time. he can just place turrets at 2 locations and than go fight at a third location. and for the love of god dont give him a pet that can stun people every few seconds (thumper). have you ever seen how a game with multiple turret engis looks like? its very stupid and annoying, they can afford to not even pay attention to you and you still get killed by their turrets unless you go away from the node.

the entire turret concept is flawed because it creates a situation that cannot be balanced. i have never seen any game that has successfully implemented a turret class into its gameplay. i dont see what is the whole point behind the attempt is, mobile pets work just fine.

i took a look at black desert and it looks awesome to say the least. however i anticipate that it will have the same problems like C9 (laaaaag), because the combat looks quite similar. i also expect loads of pve grinding for level/gear needed for pvp. i hope i am wrong because the game looks awesome, but i doubt it.

GW1 then Gw2.
Gw1 PvP was always better because Gw1 had amazing build diversity and customisation. It meant that PvP was genuinely interest and different a lot of the time. Gw2 PvP lacks because people pretty much run the same one or two builds per profession and if they don’t then they are almost guaranteed to fail hard.
Gw2 still has the best PvP at the moment. That is because PvP is a big part of the game and other MMORPGs don’t have the same focus.

more importantly I don’t think its appropriate to ask for other games to play on these forums either – its disrespectful imo

i am a gw1 and gw2 veteran and i reserve my right to be disrespectful when my concerns regarding pvp are not being addressed. the fact that my concerns are not being addressed and i paid money for the game can also be considered disrespectful and inappropriate. as you said, gw1/2 is (sadly) the best thing out there when it comes to pvp based mmorpg at this point in time, can you think of a better community to offer me input on pvp based mmorpg?

Constructive criticism is useful. But I maintain that it is disrespectful to ask for other game suggestions on gw2 forums.
Anet takes their time, we all know that. But I do believe they will address this issue eventually. There are tonnes of threads on it after all.
Its not that I disagree with your points though.

i maintain that i my post is exactly where it needs to be, in the pvp section of gw2, where people that like non pve grind based pvp have conversations. if you have any idea on where i might find a larger number of pvp focused people that play mmmorpgs, let me know, i will ask them too.
