You probably already know this but I’ll tell you anyways, turn off any net intensive apps like your browser, skype etc. Play over lan and not over wifi. Try to play on non peak hours, if you live in a apartment complex or a densely populated area 5-9pm will be peak hours.
Typical turrent engi: Ima go cap far and that’s were it stays for the rest of the match. Even on a respawn it’ll trek right back to far. Now I’m not saying there aren’t good turret engi’s but it’s usually a no weapon swap spam 1 build with high sustain and little damage. As soon as the turrets are destroyed, which takes 5-10 seconds, a turret engi is toast.
the whole stand on a point and bunk it isn’t very useful for your teammates. You should be rotating with them instead of them coming to you. Far decap is a disengage tactic for when you’ve been outplayed on home or mid, or when you’re trying to occupy a 2v1 to get a double cap. camping far the whole match isn’t very useful.
The problem I have with bomb kit in large-scale fights is its delayed damage. You aren’t going to hit the enemies you want to hit, nor are you going to hit them when you want to hit them. I think that’s what risenlord is referring to when he says that bomb kit doesn’t have the damage output needed. Even the blast finisher is heavily delayed.
The bomb kit can do huge AOE damage… if the enemy is standing where you want them to be. By the time a bomb explodes, your teammates will have dealt their damage already and the enemies will either be downed or no longer on the spot. Or at least that was my experience when I ran bombs in large-scale fights. You can adjust your playstyle to address this issue but I personally found it too much of a chore. If bombs work for you, then kudos. I just find that grenades work better for me because you can use them point-blank without much delay and you also have the choice to throw them from ranged. They do have less utility than bombs though, I’ll admit. Plus, you have the option to trait more defensively with bombs since you’re forced 30 into the Explosives line with grenades.
I agree that Rocket Boots are fine for large-scale fights though. Immobilizes can be deadly and the blast finisher is useful. Just learn to cancel it so you don’t fly off somewhere where you can be picked off.
I found rocket boots to be to unpredictable for large scale fights. Some times rocket boots will fire me off in a random direction or stick upon landing. Especially when taking towers or keeps a regular stun break is more useful. Bombs can be used in close quarter combat but you’ll be sacrificing overall damage for survivability, to be able to use them on front line large scale battles. Scaling down the bomb damage considerably to be able to survive a zerg vs zerg, does not seem worth it to me.

it’s not the amulet it’s the players that need the nerf. cele is really only viable for two classes anyway, so let’s say cele gets nerfed what then?
Warrior is better in GvG, Zergs.
Engineer is better in spvp.
In pve 1 war is better than 1 engi but since there is never a shortage of warriors..and neither class benefiting from multiples it’s a hard call.
agreed. Engineer is real good but warrior has a lower skill cap
cele scales real nice with engineer. Like elementalist’s we get more out of celestial than other classes but really it’s not that great in wvw. I try to maximize my power and crit when running in wvw and run cele in pvp.
okay I run a similar build in wvw for my guild as a backline. 62042 with knight’s scholar or knight’s hoelbrak with a mix of zerk/cavalier trinkets. With food the numbers I try to get are 45% crit, 2100-2200 power and just shy of 2700 armor. with wvw/bloodlust stacks and might I get over 3k power.
Bombs will crit for 3-3.5k in this set up which I know you don’t run but they provide enough useful utility for me that I run nades/bombs/elixir s. Since you have full tools you’ll see bigger numbers in your set up.
I’ve never had much trouble removing conditions on a warrior. Shouts, warhorn, cleansing ire.
yeah I totally forgot he’s not using bombs or flamethrower. Other than hgh which I hardly ever see bombs/ft are the only way to stack might with an engi.
Try a rabid balthazar or nightmare combo if you really want to maximize burning damage.
people always take things so personally. Rocket boots are fine for roaming, I just don’t think they are very good in large scale battles. 40v40 with bombs and rocket boots just wont output the damage your zerg needs, it’s mostly for small scale havok or roaming.
ele>warrior>engi in that order is what the 30 second dps calculated. Condi removal is the engineer’s weaknees. You could get tons of condi removal on a engi but you’ll have to sacrifice damage to do it. Power hydrid is a very common build for engi because of the condi spam and power nade damage. It’s why many people prefer cele rather than pure condi(rabid) or pure power(zerk).
I feel like this build wouldn’t provide enough pressure. It has tons of sustain but lacks the pressure a proper engi rotation would have. Like Chaith said take doom and hoelbrak, stack might, you’ll hit harder and have more dps pressure.
I really don’t like rocket boots in wvw. They provide mobility and immobilize removal but for large scale fights they don’t have enough control. Also bombs are a melee range kit, while they provide tons of utility you are really limiting yourself with close quarter combat.
every time we ask about new games modes the response is “it’s being worked on”. Same response for years now. Is one guy doing all the coding on a apple II, while everyone else sips margheritas?
you’re not understanding the way the dec 2 changes will affect people that disconnect.
hmm that’s a difficult question, there’s absolutely no way to join on a stacked team. oh except autobalance and friggin waiting until a spot opens.

There again, it’s not elementalists/engineers or the celestial stats that are overpowered. Pre-patch celestial was regarded as a trash amulet, and boosting the stats by 6% isn’t enough to suddenly make it god-mode.
Nothing significant changed with either elementalists or engineers either, so you can’t really say that they’re OP because they weren’t OP before the runes and sigils change and nothing really changed about their skills to suddenly make them OP.
It’s the might duration runes and sigil of doom/battle that need to be fixed, because only elementalists and engineers are able to abuse them to the extent where it becomes a problem.
They could nerf engineers and elementalists, but it might only cause more problems with balance and functionality versus just tweaking the rune and sigil stats.
Either way, I don’t really see a way to adjust elementalists and elementalists to cancel out the rune/sigil changes that wouldn’t also nerf all non-overpowered builds that don’t use them.
Nerfing celestial stats back to the way they used to be wouldn’t affect much either, imo. It feels like a broken record to keep saying this, but elementalists and engineers haven’t changed much in the past year, so how could something that was virtually garbage last year become op godmode without any huge changes to the classes themselves this year?
Also, if these OP elementalists and engineers didn’t have sigil of battle/sigil of doom/rune of strength/rune of hoelbrak, would they still be OP? The answer is no, because they wouldn’t have the massive damage to support their tankiness that they do now.
Doesn’t matter tho, hambow and warrior is nerfed around them, so ele and engi should be nerfed as well.
cele or the class, your choice.
Correction: Hambow was nerfed because the hammer could output berserker damage with a soldier’s amulet. If there was a problem with a specific skill or weapon at the elementalist’s/engineer’s disposal, then that would call for a nerf, but it wasn’t a rune or sigil that made warriors strong, it was their weapons and traits.
Also, warriors were OVER nerfed, which is another reason I think a rune/sigil change would be better than a profession overhaul. It’s a case of “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” There’s nothing wrong with elementalists and engineers, it’s the runes and sigils that are messed up. :P
It can still out put berserker damage because sigil of intelligence.
so you either nerf cele or nerf engi ele.
Uh nope. You would need valkyrie or soldiers with intel sigil to get “zerk” damage. Even then it’s only the first three hits on weapon swap and rarely works as intended.
can we get more maps and game modes please?
lol team stacking in hotjoins is not cheating, either join the stacked team, or play well.
If a disconnect happens just make the match results for the losing team null. This way is doesn’t count against the win loss ratio.

there are dozens of thread on this topic and zero dev responses. what kind of game is this? Every other mmo I’ve played fixes whatever is broken within days of it being reported. Maybe in 2 more years the lag will get fixed.
Well it took the devs 2 years to address the the wvw lag before. Out of the millions in profit anet has made on gw2, is their not enough money in the budget to fix a couple servers?
To be honest I am terribly bored with gw2 spvp. The new mmr system is a case of to little to late for me. I really like gw2 spvp but c’mon with the new modes and maps already, spvp is so stale.
How about an actual guild vs guild arena? I’d also like to see better ascended rewards or incentives for wvw and spvp. Sure we get more loot now, but it’s mostly crap.
Playing on bgbl tonight and the lag is atrocious. What’s really annoying is one of the TC commanders said they are getting 0 lag, while we on bgbl have a 2-3 second skill delay.
you don’t have to do solo q or tpvp to get your spvp daily.
I guess I’m just unlucky then. afkers seem to be the norm in solo queue. And I cant seem to get placed with team mates that are near my rank. I lost two matches a 3v4 and 4v5 in favor of the other team and since then I’ve been paired with kittenty players over and over again. I gave up on solo q. Team q is good because I can actually communicate with my team mates over voip and we win more than we lose.
I like skyhammer. It’s the most satisfying troll map ever. We really do need more game variety. Conquest over and over and over again is boring.
^^ Sadly I feel much of the same. Solo q has been hell since the patch. Constantly getting 4v5s and really bad players.
I see the post about spectator mode needing a fix. The inability to form teams is broken now as well. Whats happening here is this some kind of ninja nerf or will this this get fixed soon? This really ruined my day. We have spvp tourneys on saturdays now with no spectator mode and the inability to group with people you want to play with. I hope this gets fixed soon
condi condi condicondi aaaaaaaaaand 1 more for luck condi.
I don’t know about your experiences. but from my experience once an ele goes down they teleport away and then get stomped 99.9% of the time. It’s a good mechanic for delaying a respawn but thats about it. Just saying ele downstate is weaksauce.
At this point in gw2 life cycle it’s more about balancing the builds rather than build diversity. If Anet decided to change up the meta and promote different builds and play styles they would be back at 0 in regards to the “balance”. I really don’t see this happening any time soon.
Sorry for being so negative.
Since the last patch I randomly get player model rubberbanding. This doesn’t happen often but when it does it can be game breaking. Mostly its the skill lag I’m getting on my engineer when using big ol bomb and bomb kit. I have to spam big ol bomb to get it to work.
ranger sword+dagger and sb. either 10 30 30 or 0 30 30 10 is a fun non spirit build.
I was under the impression when I first started playing engi that alchemy traits would indeed affect the elixer gun. without traiting for extra damage and elixer gun cooldown reduction the elixer gun is mostly useless.
except for the heal elixer gun is pretty bad. It’s okay for bunkering from my experience but it doesn’t do nearly enough damage.
I’ve been having trouble with engi skills. Specifically big ol bomb and bomb skills.
Thief class is notoriously easy to kill. If they didn’t have their “teleports” they would be sitting ducks.
Try playing and engineer or a elementalist. They have very high skill caps and endless skill combinations.
At the very least make downstate useful. Elementalists by far have the stupidest downstate in the game. Once and ele goes down they are toast. Next is the warrior with it’s .5 second window to be able to use 2 skill on a single target then hopefully vengence.
Down state is a boring game mechanic
really the only build diversity you should be considering is which condition meta you should be playing. Power builds are dead.
i went from rank 72.. (avg rank about 250), to now 65%… and its just bad… i don’t want to play the game anymore. The people im getting teamed with are so frekin bad.
yep
The problem with power builds is that most with the exception of a few builds, are single target dps. The exception being HGH and Hammer warrior. The range on power builds is useless compared to aoe condition spam. Why would anyone roll a power build with it’s unforgiving mechanics when a condi spec on the same class yields higher damage and is much more mistake friendly. If power/crit builds could apply the same amount of pressure as a condition spec in a team fight we would see many more power builds. Power builds only seem to be good for 1v1’s.
I’m going to have to say the solo q’s since dec 10th have been atrocious.
bump. happens to my ranger as well
