I literally had a thief stand 15 feet away from me, looking at me with his stupid kitten py face.. Peering into my soul.. I was confused.. Why aren’t you attacking me? so I start to go kill him.. And he scorpion wired me right into a whole he intentionally created.
Stupid thief. Stupid Skyhammer.
Sorry but you make yourself sound even more stupid for falling for it. You sound like it was your first time on this map. Adapt before you complain.
The internet is where comments are always strongly biased to the negative since people who don’t have a problem don’t tend to express their positive opinions. There is a large player base who actually enjoys this map and I strongly hope ANET does not forget about us. Make it a different queue or whatever but please do not remove content from those who enjoy it.
I’d rather have a way to select which map I want to tournament in. Skyhammer is actually a great map. Whiners will keep whining unless this map becomes a braindead map like the other ones, ruining it for those of us who enjoy it. I was pretty sad when I saw how they added safeguards to the map because of whiners, as all it does is make pulling abilities that much stronger than pushing/fear abilities.
Are you kidding me? Forcing people to play? This isn’t hotjoin, it’s tournie play, if you are NOT there to play and start immediately giving up when things look tough, you have NO PLACE in tournie play and should stick to hotjoin.
You’re right. However, there is no solution for this. It will always happen.
Skyhammer is one of the most fun maps. I hope they’ll make more like it.
Pretty funny how people think they can ever force other people to play. If they don’t wanna play they’ll just afk. If somehow a system forces them to play they will just play like kitten on purpose.
The only real solution is to make the game as enjoyable as possible even for losing players to reduce the number of players who quit as much as possible but completely eliminating this issue is simply impossible.
No system can force people to play if they don’t want to.
I don’t think I’d still be playing if there was no skyhammer.
Any chance we can get this for hotjoin? All I play these days is skyhammer. Games are short and hunting for a new game all the time is a pretty big waste of time. Sometimes I get an occasional private server that runs skyhammer only, and my limited playtime is a much better experience while it lasts, but it unfortunately doesn’t because people join the public servers more than they join private ones so this only seem to occasionally work on weekends or very high peak times. It wouldn’t be as bad if skyhammer games lasted longer too.
It’s a shame that a game with such great combat mechanics has to be polluted by the huge amount of stealth and pve entites. Great engine, bad design pvp wise.
This game would likely be esport material if there were only warriors. The other professions all have access to cheap and cheesy abilities.
I have been gaming online since 1994 and have played most mmo’s and mainly pvp focused.
I can say that from all the mmo’s I’ve played this is by far the worst designed and the most combat disencouraging pvp map I played until this day…I always, and always will skip that data garbage a-net calls “pvp map”.
I wonder why you think you have to state some sort of pointless credentials to state your opinion? Also, you seem overly frustrated, I can practically picture you get thrown off the ledge in Skyhammer from your post alone.
In my experience, people who complain the most are the ones who play the more overpowered professions. They only have offensive utilities, nearly no stability, and get mad because they aren’t as successful at bursting people since they are actually vulnerable in some way on this map, a welcomed change from a warrior’s point of view.
Please make more maps like this. I admit to disliking the map at first but once I adjusted my build accordingly I haven’t played any other map because it’s simply that much fun. I hope developers keep up the good work and come up with more great map designs where the environment plays a major role in fights.
No point punishing anyone in such a small pool of players.
Probably over half the damage in this game comes from PvE entities in PvP. The game engine is so good, but game design so bad for PvP. I wish they’d license their engine so great PvP could come out of it.
Nerfing warriors so badly when they were already weak, and with no counter-balancing buffs whatsoever, just makes this game feel like a beta in its early stage. When you enjoy warrior playstyle, the best you can do is play a warrior in another game at this point. It’s that bad.
Mesmers are for the worst players possible, invulnerable or teleporting nearly all the time while their PvE entities keep doing damage. A ton of mesmers out there don’t even know how to strafe yet win 1v1 against much more skilled opponents of other professions.
We even see it in the Survey; even though Warrior seems to be clearly thought of as the weakest and Ele as the strongest class, Players don’t seem to be too unhappy with the current Balance.
You need to have a deeper interpretation of these statistics. Although the happiness on game balance seems average, there is a higher percentage of players playing the more overpowered professions skewing the results towards happiness while people who stick to their beloved but underpowered profession get neglected. In reality balance is much better reflected by the questions on which profession is strongest/weakest. In my opinion, balance is more important than any new feature. Whether a player gets facerolled by an overpowered profession played by a bad player in the current game or in a future custom arena or whatever other feature, that player will still eventually just give up on the game because fights are simply too unfair.
I think the madness that goes on around here is because people know the game has potential but stuff like balance fixes comes at such a slow pace maybe our grand children will have balance. This philosophy of small changes just doesn’t work, because players have limited patience.
i feel this is one of the most important factors in reasons why ppl left the game. balance is very important from day 1. when people play so well and still lose because of balance then that is unacceptable.
Exactly.
Some professions have way too much healing. It should one heal on 20-30 secs cooldown for all professions regardless of build.
I’d definitely like to see class restriction implemented.
GW2 is a PvE game.
One final thing:
Balance should not be catered to the casual, low-tier players. It is that simple. Hotjoin is where you go to slaughter and get slaughtered.
If this were the case, then Blizzard would be balancing WoW PvP based off of random battlegrounds and not 3v3 Arenas….
You’ll note that WoW arenas lost an enormous amount of players when they decided to stop balancing and rewarding for 2v2, because the closer you get to 1v1 balance, the more players will be interested. There’s a reason duels are so popular, and people dueling understand the game better than any other type of player.
Anyone discrediting others cannot be taken seriously. If your arguments are so strong you shouldn’t care about what you consider lesser arguments.
Nothing can move forward without balance. The current atrocious balance drives people away from PvP which makes any added feature worthless. People don’t even get interested in eventually competing in a game where some professions just faceroll others.
The most popular defense mechanism is that the game is balanced around team rather than 1v1, an idiotic idea which explains why people don’t hang around for more PvP in this game.
A pretty generous score for warriors. Since they can’t 1v1 anything in this game they might as well be reworked as some other profession’s pet.
You are totally correct. Balance is currently very crappy and about as balanced as you could expect a beta game to be balanced.
Actually, the opinions of people who duel a lot are worth a lot more than those doing tPvP. Balance is a 1v1 thing before anything else.
Sadly everyone else don’t give a kitten about 1vs1 here…this is a team based game you know and it will never be balanced for 1vs1, try metin2 next time..if ppl don’t pvp because they want a 1vs1 balanced game no problem for me, it’s like saying i want to play wow but i don’t want to farm stuff so ppl must change all mechanics because of me….lol….don’t think so…if you want to play a team based game you’re welcome…otherwise metin2 that way —>
Well, sadly people also don’t give a kitten about tPvP either, hence why organized teams complain of long queues or having no other team to play against, so you can stop acting like if your opinion is supported by anything other than this big fictional player base that you’ve created in your head.
And people who want better 1v1 balance are not asking for mechanics to be changed but just balanced. If a profession has an hard to deal with mechanic he should have access to lower damage potential because of it (hint: thieves and mesmers).
NO!
It is not your right to sign up and waste other peoples time because you could not be bothered playing after all.
It is not only our right, it’s a pretty neat way to put pressure on the system and get the most people possible complaining about the issue. The fact that you’re mad is a good sign. Now go ask for separate queues.
If you base this on hotzerg’s point of view then also wars could be played by monkeys and be effective like pretty much everything else with high dps (Pew pew rangers anyone?)…maybe even more than mesmer and thieves…..if you’re talkin’ about tpvp then no, bad thieves and mesmers are the first going down vs decent teams if you don’t know how to play them good..
Proof? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1oJzIQxQiI probably this guy is even worse than an average monkey..
Nothing more to say…you are just wrong, get it…
I don’t care about hotjoin or tPvP. I care about 1v1 balance which is where thieves and mesmers can kill their target by smashing their head on the keyboard. This facerolling in 1v1 fights is surely a mighty reason why people don’t come back for more PvP. There’s a big problem when you have to run away from an opponent with your tail between your legs because you decided to roll a different profession. Most people don’t learn to turn back and run, they just give up on PvP.
The most skilled players in this game are the one who were skilled enough to select thief or mesmer as their main profession.
Thieves and mesmers could be played by monkeys to a decent degree of effectiveness.
Very nice video, I like it. Ignore the haters.
Good post. I hate mesmers even more so than thieves because I can hope for thieves to be toned down in the future but mesmers? I just hate that the devs actually implemented such a mechanic in a PvP game. I think I would hate it even if they were brought down to an underpowered level. A clusterkitten is all there really is when a mesmer is around. Not that I cannot kill them when they’re bad, it’s just the worst mechanic I’ve ever had to play against in a PvP game. Unfun fights against mesmers is an understatement. How they could let so much PvE garbage into PvP is beyond me.
If game developers actually cared about 1v1 balance it would be possible to reach reasonable levels. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be close enough.
What’s funny in duels is you watch same profession duels. For example, you get 2 mesmers fighting and you see that one is way more skilled than the other and always wins. Now same thing happens with 2 warriors. Now put the worse mesmer against the best warrior and the mesmer wins fairly easily. Professions really aren’t created equal in this game and people playing professions like mesmers cannot honestly think they are skilled when they kill anything that is not currently considered blatantly overpowered.
Good stuff. Maybe there is some hope for faceroll builds to get fixed if they are now polluting tournaments too.
Can’t talk about other professions but from a warrior’s point of view, a monkey playing a mesmer could kill a decent warrior.
Play a warrior and tell me how much a ‘non-problem’ these classes are, granted thieves are much easier to deal with, game balance is pretty lop sided. Too many power escape mechanics coupled with extreme damage.
Well said. These professions can basically faceroll you to death.
Game engine is great and fun to play. Profession balance is atrocious.
Most likely the atrocious 1v1 balance is one reason. That’s why there is an overpopulation of thieves and mesmers in sPvP, the 2 easiest facerolling professions.
Well for a medium and light armored class you also want to give them no dmg? Then what? Make thieves perma-chilled and mesmer perma-dazed? wtf….
Their escape mechanisms are worth a lot more than armor. Even when I try tough warrior builds, 30 in defense, soldiers amulet, etc. these professions eat through my HPs at an insane rate considering I sacrificed all my damage stats to survive and it doesn’t even work, it only delays the inevitable. Being nearly uncatchable should come at the expense of extremely low damage. As a warrior there’s just nothing you can do to pin down any half decent thief or mesmer built the right way, they always have an escape available.
^dude thats life..i also cant play cond elementalist etc.
Also your 2 warriors example is wrong. You assume that balance should occure at the point when they both start at 50% hp completely ignoring what happened before etc.
Its like 2 thieves play against each other and are at 25% hp and one has dagger mh and heartseeker..Its over!
Cond builds lack burst so the lower the hp at starting the fight the lower their effectiveness .Not rocket science :P
Well i used this example because warriors even when using condition weapons do most of their damage straight up. In my example, it would often happen that both warriors run the greatsword as second weapon and would use that to lower each other’s health before switching to axe or 1h sword.
That would be dumb as all hell.
When Conditions (poison) can also mitigate healing to begin with, healing being their only removal is nonsensical.
As well as the damage they can do that goes through invulnerability, Dodge and Dmg negate. Also that they completely ignore armor. Going through Toughness and Protection. Considering there is multiple ways to stop straight damage, there obviously are ways to remove DoT’s that go through them.
I guess that my problem then is that the warrior 1h sword burst can be mitigated both ways. First, it can be mitigated by a straight damage mitigation ability, and if you manage to land it, it can then be mitigated by a condition removal ability making it pretty bad damage wise.
It really is only the ele that can do this. The problem is they do it for everyone alot of the time. So yeh, if the eles werent so powerful then condition builds would start to emerge.
Guardians and rangers are two more that felt like they remove it too easily. Even warriors who don’t have much condition removal.
For example, take warrior vs warrior, one of them uses axe, the other sword. They fight and both get to 50% HPs. At this point, if they both land their burst skill on the other, the axe guy will have dropped the other to let’s say 20% while the sword guy will mostly only have applied many stacks of conditions. Now, both guys use their heal (with condition removal). The axe guy is now up 80% HPs with no more conditions on him while the second guy is only up to 50%, while he had to work harder to land the sword burst.
I just wish the sword damage was more reliable. Sure, sword has better mobility, but it also has a pretty crappy snare compared to axe.
