This issue didn’t exist until about a year ago? maybe 18 months?

Actually, it has been there since the beginning (and has been complained about many times already).

Good that QA was finally able to investigate it and prompt a fix to be worked on.

It’s… surprising that they haven’t heard about it before.

No Gear Treadmills = Endless Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

The thing is, they said before launch they would likely raise the level cap with an expansion, and I went in knowing this…and I don’t mind. Because really what is leveling in this game? How long did it take to get from 70 to 80 for example? It seems to me that the higher I leveled the faster I leveled.

I wasn’t concerned about raising the level cap for the same reason. Catching up on level difference didn’t seem to be much of a problem. The same was true of regearing to the new BiS equipment. Now however, replacing obsolete top equipment with new one (if the new one will follow in current ascended footsteps – and i see no reason to thing it won’t be) is going to be a long and tedious process. Process i already know i will not enjoy.
Thus, the existence of ascended gear changed possible level cap expansion from something I might even have enjoyed to something i’m likely going to hate.

i would agree with you if this were a subscription based game, which it is not.

This is not a point of argument … it’s simply true. Read the EULA. You pay for access. You don’t actually own your account or anything on it.

EULA is not the law. In fact, it has been proved many times already that a lot of points that businesses like to use in EULA (especially the one you bring up) do not actually relieve developers from their responsibilities to their customers nor can they vaive (or step around) any customer rights.

It doesn’t stop those points from being used in EULAs, of course, because a lot of people actually believe they do matter.

Thoughts on decreasing waypoints

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Actually, lower density of waypoints makes people even less likely to respawn.

I don’t know. From what I see during the Arah event, with the waypoint available and people lying on the ground inches away from it, waiting for someone to try rezzing them in the middle of the fight, it doesn’t seem that it could get less likely.

Oh, it does get worse. On Vinewrath, if the labyinth WP is disabled and you’d have to run across the whole map, usually noone waypoints at all. And for a good reason, seeing as ressing in his case is actually faster.

Basically, yes, there are people that don’t waypoint period. Those won’t be waypointing no matter what you do. There are also people that when deciding if they want to waypoint, look at how far would they have to run first. If it’s too far, or the path is too annoying, they’ll rather hope for a ress. For those people lower density of waypoints results in them less inclined to respawn. Mounts or no mounts.

Its fine and absolutely ok, the maps have therefore other mastery based movement abilities received, with that you can quickly move around, so that much lesser waypoints are needed:

having mastery solve problems that were created just to make those masteries useful, and would not exist without them is not a good design idea at all.

Google yourself the “air breathing mermaid problem”. That’s exactly what’s happening now. Anet is manufacturing a problem in order to be able to say “look, how good we are, we have a solution for this ready for you!”. No, this does not solve a problem. You end up at the situation that’s at best no worse than before, but the way to it is more convoluted now.

Arenanet totally forgot GW1 fans?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

Considering GW2 sold 7 times more copies the GW did. you would need 3 times the population GW1 ever reached just to hit 40%-50% of the GW2 player base.

The last info places GW2 currently at 3.5 mil copies sold, and a peak concurrency of about 460 k people playing at once (which happened during first months, by the way, i doubt we get as high nowadays). That’s still less than number of GW1 copies sold.
Of course, GW2 is out for only a year, so it has still a lot of time to catch up, but claiming that it has sold 7 times GW1 copies is a flat out lie. It still has to equal it, in truth.

Astralporing.1957

Putting players in a situation where “you need to play Zerker/full DPS otherwise you can forget about beating this content” is NOT a good idea.

But that’s wrong. All you need to do is come prepared, bring your best geared character, get the damage buff from the mystic plaza merchant, use the scarlect tonic and maybe even eat some buff food and suddenly you are way more effective.

First: sometimes it’s still not enough. Especially if your best (or only!) build is a condi. Or there are not enough people on the map. Second, an average player is not going to do that no matter how hard you try to force them. There’s a reason why those are called casuals (what you describe is a “pro” behaviour). They will just leave. And then you get back to the “not enough people on the map” and “wonky scaling” issues.

I guess I’m curious as to why this is coming up now?

It isn’t. It’s been going on since the first legendary armor announcement, and it did certainly get stronger when the recipe got revealed. Now is just another occasion to bring that up.
(by the way, when it was brought up after the recipe reveal, the common answer was “don’t worry, Anet’s likely going to reveal a second, non-raid set soon, so just keep quiet and wait”. You can guess how well did that work out.)

Astralporing.1957

(continued)

Having said all that, if after a week the Marionette is still only being beaten 1 out of 10 times, then I would say we may have tuned it a bit too difficult.

Again, the main problem is not the difficulty. It’s the population requirement for the fight. Some servers already have 0 chance to win it. The same with most overflows – i haven’t seen a succesful overflow fight since the second day of the event. Yes, some servers can win the fight consistently on the hours when they can get enough people. If this was a permanent content, having such numbers should not be something i’d count on though.

On the other hand, we don’t know how long it takes for the aggregate skill level of the player-base to grow. I don’t know how long it takes for information about traits and builds to disseminate to those who had previously never looked into them.

Generally, never. The average skill level at this events is rising (on my server, which is doing good – on many it’s not rising at all, quite the opposite) simply because some of those that weren’t “good enough” gave up on it entirely.

According to my experience, people that already played for some time, but do not look into their traits and skills, won’t suddenly start to do that. At best they will look for a different build on a net, change what they have (without really understanding, or caring why one works for this and one doesn’t), and forget about it till next time. Those that will improve are those that were already interested in improving.

And there will always new players that will start from scratch – unless of course you do not plan on having any new players.

So, if you’ll continue to push the player skill level requirements up with these events, the second group will go along with it, but both the first group, and the new players will eventually find themselves below the curve.

As with all our content, we are closely watching and noting these things so that every future project can learn from it.

While Marionette (as compared to Teq) would suggest you are learning, even the most cursory look at the 3H Wurm puts that into doubt.

As someone who has beaten Marionette maybe 5 times thus far, I think I can honestly say that the success rate is far above 1/10. 50/50 seems about right with in my personal experience, and I think that is fine for this kind of content.

Can’t you just go to dragon timer and view the success rate? you don’t need to speculate.

http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/

It should be mentioned here, that web timers success rate (does dragontimer even have that? Unless it’s hidden some place i didn’t think to look in) is way up compared to the real one, because it ignores the overflows.

ANet and the case of Insider Trading

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

So then, let me ask one more question: Is it “merely coincidence” that John Smith has not answered me, or the community, with any explanation within 24 hours of this post being created?

No, of course it isn’t.

1. Anet devs do not answer often, nor do they answer everyone. Not getting answered is the usual state.

2. 24 hours is a bit short for answer anyway.

3. John Smith generally answers only when there are some serious concerns raised.

Since you like to pick apart my issue, let me be more specific: Is it merely coincidence that he hasn’t replied on how the involved parties (may or may not be a dev, directly) knew to begin dumping the items in question, and steadily lowering the price over the course of a month, or two?

And here you go again with treating your unproven suspicions as facts.

And, its not only JUST the halloween skins. My community brought me up to speed on other incidents, just like this one. Such as the items on the TP that were collection items for an achievement called “Treasure hunter”. Apparently, the prices on these items soared, just before the announcement or patch was rolled out, where these changes went live.

That’s actually not true, check your facts first.

That being said, i believe that ANet owes its playerbase some sort of assurance that the issue has been found, resolved, and will be prevented the next time something like this could potentially occur.

Only if there indeed is an issue. Which at this point hasn’t been proven yet.

Healing support need's improvement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

PPl are stuck when the mental Idea when I mean heals is that all you doing is standing there healing and that’s not it , I am talking about a healing system that you sacrifice some of your dps to slow down your member HP from droping dramatic

Except that’s what people are telling you. The healer role or build in this game isn’t viable not because its broken but because there is no need for it.

That makes no cense. They create ability to heal other player but there no need for them? so why bother having it to begging with ? you make something and it doesn’t fit on the game play? then that is broken

They want it to be an option, but only a minor one. What they don’t want is dedicated healers, so there is no support for it. The primary weight on keping your hps up will always be on your own shoulders, not on someone else.

Full Zerkers ONLY!

Astralporing.1957

This thread is going now way too long. There will always one geartype that is more efficient than others.

No, there will always be one geartype that is more efficient than others for one, specific part of the game. Single dungeon, single bossfight, etc. What we have in GW2 however is one geartype that is more efficient than any other for almost whole of PvE (and i say “almost” only in case i forgot something, and because there are some small parts where gear doesn’t matter at all).

The general problem with berserker is not because it offers best dps (some gear set will always be in that place). The problem lies that the combat engine changed the “high risk high reward” case into a “High reward for risk that just maybe is a bit higher. And often is actually lower”.

Inability to moderate your language and letting it degenerate in swear words, foul language, racist hate speech and/or (usually not funny) sexual innuendos is way more immature.

It is one thing if you talk in the presence of people that you know are used (or even expect) this kind of behaviour (i.e in chat of a guild filled with like-minded players). When talking in a map chat however, in the presence of people you don’t know and are not sure whether they are offended or not, you should take as much care as in similar RL situations.

Astralporing.1957

I kind of just browse over it.

I used to think the same way the author does. But after a while I reailize I can do anything in pve to make 10 gold per hour.

If you dont’ think 10 gold per hour by doing what ever you want is good enough, I have nothing more to say.

Obviously you can do boring stuff like spend all your time killing candy corn or opening a ballizion number of wintersday gift.

But if you found that fun, go ahead. I’m already making really good money by playing anyway I want.

Well, but you AREN’T playing how you want…you’re just farming…and nobody really WANTS to farm…that was kind of the author’s point.

No you don’t understand. I mean I can do anything pve. Like dungeon, EOTM, map completion, silverwaste, drytop, fractal, tequalt, even key farming, harvesting. And make 10 gold per hour.

If you want to call every pve activities in this game farming, I have nothing more to say. Like what else are you going to do when you logon?

Only thing that dont’ reward good gold is spvp and wvw. And even if spvp dont ’reward anything many people do it. And I actually do spvp just to finish my dungeon collection. So that is rewarding in another sense.

Can you tell me how you make ten gold an hour? I’ve seen people claim this a lot but never proved a way to do it. And as such I dismiss such claims as pure fantasy.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/bltc/Mystic-s-Gold-Profiting-Guide/first#post4359428

That’s pure farming. Yes, if everything you do is dedicated to getting gold, you can get those kinds of profit, but that is by no means a normal gameplay. It’s definitely not “doing anything in PvE”.

What's wrong about grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

While I get the point that most b-e-a-utiful things are hard to get….

…I personally don’t see the “need” for grind. People grind for what they “want”, not what they “need”.

Which is the whole game. We don’t “need” to play it after all, only “want” it.

I don’t think you understand the point. You’re comparing it on a different context.

I’m talking about the content of the game and you’re talking about what we do iRL.

No, it’s you that don’t understand that the “want, not need” argument is absurd. If you can argue, for example, that BiS gear is “not needed”, then you can make the same argument against everything else in this game. There are people that do dungeons naked after all, so it is possible! And you don’t even need to do any specific content in game (and by extension, you do not ned to play any content in this game ;P)

There’s nothing in this game we need to grind, because there’s nothing in this game that we need. Only things we want.
But for things we want, we need to grind.

You seem to forget, that (due to Second Life, and WoW account sellers) there was at some time serious push to make all the virtual income taxable by the state. Yes, in US. Warning - HoT removes Tyria Dailies

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

They could make it so which ever of the two daily you do cancel the other.

For example it is currently either Salvage Pit for people who own HoT and Fire Elemental for people who don’t.
If someone with HoT went to do Fire Elemental daily, the Salvage Pit daily would get disabled and, likewise, if they completed Salvage Pit, Fire Elemental daily would get disabled.

This way people could chose the one they prefer doing.

The best way (and one that was suggested several times already in few different threads) would be to simply make a separate HoT daily category.
Yes. That would mean PvE players would get twice as many dailies than WvW or sPvP ones, but WvW/sPvP dailies are far more generic in their nature and far more likely to just be done during normal gameplay without ever worrying about them, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

(Not that i expect for the current system to change, however. Those are simply my personal thoughts)

Why is exotic gear so easy to get ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

One story goes that they added ascended because the devs were surprised how easy it was to get Exotic

Yeah, right. They definitely were surprised, especially since their stated earlier goal was for players to be able to deck themselves in top stat gear by the time they hit level 80. I mean, it was really surprising that the game followed stated designs, right?

And while it is great to have a “smooth” vertical progression, it probably was too smooth before ascended gear and the metrics probably hit the red button with players leaving due to the “what to do now?” syndrome.

The players were leaving, because the honeymoon period ended. Every MMO loses massive numbers of players in its first months – the Locust, the people that tried MMO for the first time (and didn’t like it), the people that thought that it will be “like WoW, but better”, the people whose friends stopped playing due to one of the above reasons… Ascended gear might have stopped some from leaving, but also pushed others away. Was the net result positive? Unlikely (or Anet would have introduced another tier by now).

Other than the fact that GW2 is nothing like GW1 in even the slightest aspect and GW2 failed, they could have released 4 or 5 new campaigns for GW1 in that time and been a lot more successful.

Either that or they could’ve sold GW2 to Blizzard to make it WoW2. But I don’t think they’d take it.

They would never have sold 2 million copies if they had released a hundred new campaigns for GW1.

Considering that GW1 passed 6 million boxes sold somewhere about 2009, i’m pretty sure you are so very wrong here.

Wooden Potatoes Grande Review

Astralporing.1957

The big thing HoT did wrong was making raids way too important to the over all game. Classes live and die off of the balancing to raids aimed builds but for some reason it effects both wvw and open world pve. In a way anet is giving up there old game types for a new one and much smaller / less played. HoT kind of messed things up in that way.

Open world pve doesn’t need balance, it never has and never will unless arenanet moves away from gather 50-100 people, zerg down event, done.

That’s exactly the thinking that leads to raids’ overblown importance in this game.

No, there’s no content that “doesn’t need balancing”. Not unless you treat it as completely unimportant.

Not this again. Please.

Timers are there so you can’t run 10 nomads hammer guardians and tank your way through every fight.

This. Timers are a must have or people could find a way cheese the bosses or to solo this 10 man content.

If you are able to solo it when the timer isn’t there, doesn’t that say something about the bosses themself?
I agree that the timers are a lazy way to make the fights somewhat challenging, because without them a lot of pressure of having to DPS goes away, and the bosses will be on about the same difficulty level of a veteran in Queensdale.
I’d rather have seen Anet give the bosses actual challenging mechanics instead of some boring DPS check

Have you even done the raids? It sure seems like you haven’t.
General percentage of wipes to boss mechanics: 99%
General percentage of wipes to enrage timer: 0.01%

If that’s the truth, the timer is not necessary.

Making items that only a handful of people will ever get in a MMO with a 7 digit player population is the kind of special we really, really don’t need. Either this, or have each player in group having to accept (and join) on individual basis, instead of merging the whole group the moment one person agrees.

Has an error been made regarding silk?

Now if it was costing me upwards of 5-6 gold for 100 bolts to make a single spool, I would see the complaints.

Funny you mention that

well silk scraps hit 1.3s and silk bolt 5s and price is rising

Please adjust overinflated crafting costs

I appreciate that the costs of the guild hall upgrades are meant to be distributed even though at this point it doesn’t seem to be working that way since the cost of the upgrade greatly exceeds its actual benefits. The point of comparing the cost of this one requirement to a precursor was to give the value a frame of reference. We all know that 644 gold is a good chunk of change, but as an abstract figure it can be difficult to conceptualise. Saying a precursor’s worth of gold is just a useful frame of reference to demonstrate how expensive this requirement is, even if the costs are paid in a distributed way.

and if you are a 50 man guild its 13 gold each just some pocket change

Remember, that’s only one material among many, for a single upgrade among many.
Also, do guilds smaller than 50 people really need to pay out of their noses for guild upgrades?

Achievement cap [Merged]

You make an interesting point and when I get up to that stage, I’ll be keen to see if I feel differently about the AP.

You most likely won’t. He was like that since day one, it has nothing to do with his current playing time and AP gained.

Salvage has a max AP cap.
The Bandit repeatable has a max AP cap.

If it’s repeatable, it does need a cap at some point. 15k is A LOT of AP just from Dailies(Dailies/Monthlies). Right now that is little less then half of what is listed. 15 000, and you only get 10 a day right now. Yes. It does need a cap.

A poor comparison at best. Daily is limited to once a day. Salvage can be done hundreds of thousands of times per day.

At launch, Agent of Entropy had no AP cap. A few people used it to reach over 25k AP in just a few months. Anet quickly capped it (and every other infinitely repeatable achievement) and rolled back the AP of everyone who had exceeded the cap.

That is completely missing the point. The daily AP is already naturally limiting because you can only ever do it once a day. Ever since they changed the daily to give a static 10 AP the original reason for capping is also no longer relevant either unless someone is going cry about having to continue playing to stay on the leaderboard.

I think he was supporting your argument, not countering it.

Scarlet taunts you all the time. So yes, they can taunt you. If anet put a bunch of champ mobs on a spawnpoint they could farm you while you spawned too.

One more reason to dislike Scarlet, i guess. And if Anet put a bunch of champ mobs on a spawn point, i would be here on forum protesting as well. Because that would have been pretty stupid thing to do.

PvP in a PvP area is not griefing.

PvPing PvE players wanting to do a PvE content is.
And if the game intends you to grief, then it’s a problem with the game (unless it is a game purely for griefers, of course, but GW2 is not one of those).

When they introduced the spinal backpacks they made the tailor recipe cost 200g and the leatherworking recipe cost 15g for the same item.

If you go off the price of damask on the TP, yes. This may be partially a function of there having been less time for people to craft damask

No, it was the function of damask being used for all 3 armor weights, and requiring way more t5 mats than elonian (or deldrimor…). Basically, equal supply, but way, way more demand.

There’s also the “small” matter (that has been promised to be resolved long time ago) of back items being restricted to the first stat sets only. They were apparently completely forgotten when the second group of stat sets were added for ascended gear.

That, and i also would like to see carrion and magi ascended gear.

Anet increased supply (through daily rewards) and introduced items that use coins – guess why you want more coins..

Actually, daily rewards introduce less mystic coins compared to before. So, Anet has reduced supply and increased demand. With completely predictable results.

Inactive players trolls our forum.

People have different definitions of “leaving” a game. Rarely does someone who takes enough time to post their opinions on the game quit 100%. They are posting because they want to make the game better. They “leave” in the sense that this may no longer be their primary game, or they may only play 1/10th of what they used to. It rarely means that they don’t ever log in at all.

A player who posts constructive feedback or sugestions whants the game better… Players who trolls the thread with a comment to a new player with ’ You won’t find it fun, I left long time ago becouse I didn’t like what they did with the trait system’. Say how will that help this game at all?

Well, it doesn’t. But then, saying that the game is all sunshine and mirrors, everything is okay and there are no flaws doesn’t help either (and there are posts like that as well).

EDIT: Also if its the inactive “trolls” that you really wish to block. How could you or ArenaNet possibly do it? All they would have to do is log in to their account for a second and technically they’re “active” again.

Umm… Well that’s what I wanted help to figure out, but with the suggestion I made was that maby some “trolls” does not wanna have the game installed just to make posts or it is to much “work” to be able to post some unessary posts and have their so called forum PvP.

I’m pretty sure that most of people that say they don’t play anymore do in fact log in, at least infrequently. People that are truly inactive, and yet keep posting on the forums are rare, and don’t last long. If they stay around, it’s because they still have some attachments to the game.

I think it’s rather selfish for you to say that other people’s reasons for playing are inferior to yours or matter less just because the game caters to your desires.

It’s not that it is inferior. It’s that in the long run it is unworkable in a game like GW2. Why? It’s simple – catering to it makes more people dissapointed than satisfied. By design. And no sane developer would want majority of their players to be disappointed..

You can get away with doing this to minor things (like liadri mini) but anything that is more front and center must be possible to acquire by everyone. Even if most people will find themselves unwilling to put in the required effort. Making something that is supposed to be desired by majority, and yet is limited by skill so that only a minority can possibly get it is asking for a riot.

Are champ bags limited to 50 per champ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Was wondering why my warrior didn’t get a champ bag from the Shaman at the Maw event and a guildie said that champ bags are limited to 50 per champ in the event, so if you weren’t one of the top 50 DPS players hitting the Shaman, then you don’t get a champ bag. Is that correct?

Not quite. There’s a certain damage threshold you need to pass to qualify for drop. Now, of course, there’s a finite number of players that can pass that damage threshold before mob is dead. For example, if the threshold was 2% of mob’s total hp, then obviously only up to 50 players could receive loot. The number is not set, however, for several reasons.
First, we don’t know the threshold. It may be 2% (so max 50 players). It may be 1%. It may be something else. Additionally the number changes if: some players deal more than their due, boss heals during fight, or condi damage is used (condi damage often doesn’t count for threshold, but does decrease mob’s hp). Scaling (both up and down) during fight can also mess with this heavily.
So, short answer: yes, there’s a finite number of players that can get the drops. No, it’s not 50 (or any set number).
