1: Mechanical flaws. I’m sure this is a broken record by now, and might’ve even been fixed by the time this post starts circulating around; but why is the communication device soulbound? Not everyone did the opening event on their main, specially since you can theoretically complete it at any level. So those that did that, not including me, are at a disadvantage until this is fixed.

I reckon you didn’t try at any point to talk to Vorrp with another character or you would have received a brand new sparkly communicator usable by that character.

You have to take it all with a grain of salt after all.
But Scarlet has seen something all right. And Sylvari are arguably closer to the Mists than any other race.

Also interesting about her mechanical minions… the green vibe, the fact that they rebuild eachother from ‘dead’ scraps.

Name of that Storm Wizard's final form?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Evans.6347

On a related note, does anyone know what video game this boss is inspired by?

King toad of the funghus kingdom is an obvious reference to Wart from Super Mario brothers 2 (see attachment) but I have no idea what the Storm Wizard would be. The dragon destroying platforms reminds me of Megaman somewhat…

EDIT: actually, he’s probably inspired by the “Dragonlord” from the original Dragon Warrior (which later became Dragon Quest) who starts off as a weak wizard and turns into his ‘true form’ after taking enough damage.

Addressing a misconception about AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Let’s clear something up about AP.

AP is not about player skill. It is not about experience.

AP in my opinion measures how seriously you take this game

Actually for a large part AP is much more about how much free time you have on your hands than it is about dedication.

You can take Guild Wars as serious as kitten, but if you don’t have hours to spend on grinding AP (if you call that dedication to begin with), then it ain’t gonna happen.

I do admit the new LS achievements have improved the old formula.

So if you don’t have free time to play the game then how are you going to become that person that knows the content by heart and that people want in their groups?

It still holds up – either you don’t have the time or don’t want to bother and take it seriously but in the end it’s still the same result – there s a bigger chance you’re inexperienced.

I can finish the main story with my chosen profession and then repeat Ascalonian Catacombs hundreds of times in my theoretical ample free time. As a result, I would be more knowledgeable about AC than most of the “experienced” people forming parties, but only have a couple hundred of AP.

It’s not a measure of skill or dedication, but of time spent. Often, these are connected, but that’s not always true.

Someone who has a lot of AP has played a fair amount of hours. That’s the only real conclusion you can make.

I wish people would just let it be and focus on the here and now. What does this accomplish anyway? It’s been over a whole year and those who are still here, are still here regardless of the ‘lies’. So why keep on going on and on and on about this same old poor dead horse that has been beaten down to nothing more than decrepit horse pulp…

Refund for Gold Find laurels?

Rubbish. If you want to make a somewhat appealing and comparable statement you should create a scenario where we’d keep our Berserker armour, but some other stat gets boosted, shifting the meta towards that leaving our Berserker armour absolutely identical to before, but useless now because none of us play it any more.

And surely we’ll call for refunds then too right? Right?

It’s still your interpretation of the usefulness that matters. The gilded infusion is not changing one little bit through all this and still has it use. I’m sorry you find it insufficient but that’s not ours, nor Anet’s problem but your own.

So do away with the whole thing and change every dust/fragment/ore drop into an ascended grab bag that generates an amount of a random selected material.

They can still adapt the amount of bags you get per piece of content, or make small/medium/large versions. At least everything has a equal chance to contribute and we won’t have these outrageous differences in availability any more.

I have to be honest, I can only conclude that crafting an entire time-gated exotic set for the purpose of MF is a very bad investment.

Now that MF is going, what is left is a very niche armor set, which to me it was from the very start. However, as MF was not the original purpose of the set and that the stat totals are still very high without it, I can understand Anet’s decision not to compensate.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Evans.6347

Here:

With the launch of the April 2014 Feature Pack, we’ll be activating the megaserver system on our level 1–15 maps, main cities, and the PvP lobby. We’ll monitor and test the system to verify that everything works correctly. Later in 2014, we’ll activate our megaserver technology across the entire world of Tyria.

Obviously, from the player’s experience with regard to precursor crafting, new legendaries, guild halls, “large projects cooking in background”, QoL features etc., “later in 2014” was not “in 1 or 2 weeks”, but rather “sometime in early 2015”.

I am fully aware of that post. And nowhere in that post do they say that they will SLOWLY roll out the mega-server. They only say later in 2014, and technically one day after the patch is later.
As far as we know the system worked well enough with the first zones they tried so they figured they might as well turned it on for all zones and working on tweaking it from there.

Oh come on, that’s just being insufferable. I’m not going to throw about imaginary percentages, but I’m most convinced that the larger part of people reading that line did not interpret ‘later in 2014’ as the next week. Nor should they.

Seriously, do you tell your friends you’re going to see them ‘later in 2014’ when you actually mean in the next weeks? Why should any of us interpret that in the most strict sense ever instead of the conventional social manner?

A question about Ascended grinding

in Crafting

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

The only materials you cannot buy in any form are the ones needed for the vision crystal. In order to get those you’re going to have to farm champions, dungeons and world bosses. You can use the gold, tokens and materials you gain from that to start leveling up your crafting discipline to lv 500.

You already realise it’s going to be a long journey, so I suggest you pick it up with what you enjoy doing most and generally work towards your goal. If you are bent on getting ascended quickly, then crafting is probably the worst way to go about doing that. You’re better off at high Fractal levels for that, even if the drops are random.

What is that Vine doing to the WP!

in Living World

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Anyone that’s up on the lore that can explain a few things? I mean I thought waypoints were more of a game mechanic to deal with travel and it was more of a time saver than an actual in-lore thing. Asura Gates are the in-lore travel devices, that if waypoints are actually in-lore make absolutely no sense. Why have asura gates if everyone can travel via waypoints? That makes the whole original story look dumb because several portions of it are based around asura gates. Otherwise it would have been plonk down a waypoint and lets teleport an army in. Other places it doesn’t make sense either because when waypoints get contested it’s the enemies ignoring a device that will lead to their downfall. For example you don’t think the centaurs would blow up the waypoint in the middle of their base? Or zhaitan have the ones all over his territory destroyed? Or scarlet would have let any of them in Lion’s arch remain?

It seems like a massive plothole. Don’t get me wrong the whole vine thing is really cool, but storywise it seems kind of dumb. I really hope they don’t try to use this as some big plot point because that would seriously be on the level of scarlet. “Oh, yeah the dragon used the fast travel things that all other bad guys in Tyria seemingly forgot existed to corrupt everything”.

I’ll point to an interview from Angel:

Angel McCoy : Absolutely! Waypoints are asuran devices, and all the money you spend to use them goes straight into the coffers at Rata Sum. The asura have been developing these magi-matter-transportive devices for centuries and have seeded them across the world. They’re often contested if creatures or bad guys disrupt the traffic coming through them, but the asura work hard to maintain this money-making web of mini-gates. The fee, in case you wondered, is automatically separated from your person and transported directly into a guarded room in Rata Sum. The coins drop in and pile up there, and workers put them in carts and carry them to the vaults.

How do you want "The Fall of Abaddon" to be?

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Evans.6347

Keep in mind that Margonites are still humans during the battle, infused with strong magic sure, but there is no real indication that this would have corrupted them at the time being. The demonic manifestations we see in Nightfall are the same human followers, tainted and twisted but the madness of a god long shackled in isolation. Also, as Abaddon had to rebuild his own body from the realm itself, so too is it likely the Margonites did or were made to do.

Anyway, the point is that the Margonites we’d battle would pretty much look very human.

Also, both Mordy and Bubbles are far easier to work with as they don’t have much of an impact on the zones in which the personal story takes place. As such there’s less chance of conflicting scenario’s.

I do dislike the fact that you have plenty of useless levels now. Basically between most later levels, there is absolutely no satisfaction in a level up. Even if it was just a really minor thing, being able to spend a trait point for a minor boost made you feel somewhat stronger.

Now level 67 is just the same as level 68 and 69 and 70 and 71. Sure, you get stronger, but they never show you those numbers anyway.

Ugh, the constant beating around the bush is tiresome.

Again, the fight itself isn’t the problem. Nobody is argueing that Teq can’t be beaten. The fight itself is just poorly implemented and has no real place in the spirit of the game.

No boss encounter, especially a world boss, should require you to join certain guilds and in fact bypass regular gameplay by deliberately setting up overflows for the select few who get invited in. And no, the chance of beating it by going about this the “normal” way for world bosses is abyssmally low.

But I’m just repeating the same old same. I would like to enjoy the new bosses, but the way things are looking right now I’m not getting my hopes up.
