In a game economy you need to have things that cause you to lose funds in one way or another. Without that there is no good economy in game and inflation etc will go crazy. If your complaint was towards the size of tax that’s different, but there’s a team devoted to the economy and making sure it is as stable as they can keep it. Taxes are a needed evil, as much as I hate them I understand why they are important. Not to say I don’t miss my military time when I could buy $300 worth of stuff from the PX and it would cost… $300 ^^; They even added bottled water deposits where I live.. So much for buying 34 packs of water, cause I never make it to the store to get the deposit back lol..

Wow that’s so crazy. I’m on NSP and I see a fair number of people. Do you check out LA? We usually have loads of people at the temple runs every night too. So many that people complain about it all the time actually. Lately there haven’t been as many there but that’s just since the SSC patch came down so I just figured everyone’s been there.

We also used to have tons of people doing the meta events but that’s gone down. Rares aren’t what they used to be really. Get’s boring after a while. Queensdale’s usually packed especially when SB’s up. That’s just dumb now.

I have to admit though, other zones don’t have nearly as many people. I feel like everybody’s just in Queensdale, LA, SSC, and Orr. Otherwise I see maybe 3 or 4 people in other zones. No clue of other servers have more people in those other zones.

Oh, all this is based on Eastern time zones at prime time. During the day it can get fairly dead.

LA for me is usually dead as well. You really don’t see it until you have been to other servers. Then it really becomes very clear.. For instance you can see the difference in the pic below, this is a small sample taken at the same time. Events are very much different, it can be 5 people on server a, and 50 people on server b.

PS: TC is usually cramped with people in DR, I’m guessing the low pop there is because of the event.

People do love duels, just not the elitist creating, smack talking, kitten meter having, kind that you are referring to.

[Edit: An arena for these people is fine as you know exactly what your getting into when you enter. Just don’t do something stupid like Aion did and put quests inside so that randoms can kill you while you PvE..]

I think seasonal events should bring back refreshed fan favourites, will make looking forward to the particular events even better. If the content was added perma style there wouldnt be so much hype.

HOWEVER. Super adventure box has been the best of the bunch in terms of quality and difference in comparison to what other MMOs do. This means i think it should be a permanent addition rather than a month long one.
The scope to keep adding zones is really broad and something that would be really wasted if canned until next april.

The only problem is it detracts from the life of the world. It being an instance, players won’t see all those people wandering around tyria as much. Of course this could die down a bit over time, but in the meantime they would really need to push out those world events, flame and frost things, and other content to keep people doing a variety. Most important reason for this is so that the SaB doesn’t become another “Maw”.

As a hint, for the OP – the mount thread was closed for the same reason the previous 2000 mount threads have been locked then closed. ArenaNet has said, repeatedly, there will be no mounts in game.

Continued whining about something that has little support from the fanbase, and no support at all from the company, achieves nothing.

I’m surprised people don’t get infracted or temp bans for starting these threads.

Would you please provide a link to a definitely no on mounts from arena net? Anyway, even if they did say no, things can always change.

However-
We did have a horse mount possibly coming, it was going to be the most amazing thing ever. And could have put everyone’s worries to rest, and even be offered for super cheap! Sadly though… forum thread after forum thread beat that poor horse to death, so badly it can never recover and has since gone to a better brighter place…

What we do know:

Colin promised us tinfoil hats that could make us look like mounts to other people, and as cool as that is I really don’t want people trying to mount me while I’m afk..

People continually asked for mounts in so many threads, Arenanet supplied us with brooms to sweep our tears away.

In conclusion, if you continue to beat this poor horse, and have already purchased your tear sweeping broom, then now is the time to lay this idea to rest until updates are done. Because we went from no mounts, to a broom, don’t be surprised if the complaining leads to us getting pacifiers and bottles next BLTC update…

The splinters from riding the brooms are a constant reminder that Tyrians were not meant to have mounts.

Just a quick update, I want to be thorough, so it will be a couple more hours before I have anything to say.

There are 2 options to be taken from John’s response in my view:

1. The drop rate shouldn’t have changed so it’s a bug.
2. NCSoft wanted more gem sales by nerfing ecto drops, I better get PR advice on what to say.

The lore transfers into this game, hence the “2” in the title. However it isn’t a clone of the first because they didn’t want people to simply leave GW1 for the “better version”. Much like FFXIV didn’t want to replace FFXI.

On multiple guilds-
In FFXI you could have several linkshells, and they had specific purposes. Maybe you had a social, event, group linkshell stack. And you participated in each on your own time. Well Guilds work the same, most people have 2-3 for this exact reason. Also it allows for player to experience creating a guild, maybe you have a friend who wants to be a dungeon leader. Why does he have to leave the social guild for something that isn’t happening 100% of the time?

In my guild we have people whos focus is pve, pvp, wvw etc. Some of them even have guilds they rep for certain things. But they come back because we are their home. This doesn’t mean they do those things solely with those guilds either. It just allows for variation in play, and the ability to broaden our social links to areas where other players may be interested.

I will be enjoying FFXIV and TESO when I’m not playing Guild Wars 2. I’m looking forward to experiencing the fun of the new games including GW2, not so much the seriousness of the forums. I know this is gonna sound stupid, but how am I level 80? I played the game about 8 months ago and until recently decided to pick it up again. I know when I stopped I was level 30+, but now I am level 80. Is it due to me downloading the mac beta (I was originally playing on my bootcamp partition) or something else?

First I would recommend changing your passwords. It is possible your account was compromised and used for botting/rmt. Next contact support and inform them of what happened.

Many people who generally may have farmed them could be in SS farming there. When there is little to do in game, that is when alts and farming items/events/mobs comes into play. When those people stop, you tend to see spikes. This is just a theory. Check the date on the changes in mats, then check the date on when Southsun opened its different steps. There is some wiggle room as far as it happening at the very moment of starting, but could be a sign. Dills start was a strange phenomenon, its increased prices are more of a market scare. Goes to show just takes one person and one thread to change an items worth, even if temporarily.

They drop “often”, I’d even say “very often..”. Lots of people are buying keys, check the Fused Ticket discussion..

The price of the chests shows that they are a common drop item. The keys on the other hand are Gem, rare drop, or story reward only. And are not available through BLTC other than by Gems, Story reward, very rare drop. And are account bound.

Also reading “on the BLTC on Dragonbrand”, don’t take this the wrong way but just letting you know in case you didn’t, all servers are connected through the BLTC.

I don’t farm nearly enough to make the price of this worth it. I can get 25 Orichalcum Mining Picks for 1 gold, that’s 2,500 uses. More then enough to last me a long time. Also, drawing more attention to yourself in WvW while you’re gathering a node, is a bad idea.

Unless you have a bunch of friends stealthed nearby and use it as a lure.

I’m going to bookmark this and wait for the thread where people qq about being ambushed by 35 thief’s in stealth at a ore node in WvW. :P

Strategy and skill should always be a key focus of GW2 and never which class you are. Just my opinion.

Apparently its just rare/optional dyes and gem store items that can’t be sold that are ruining the economy. Hopefully the GW2 economist will get on this situation fast.

You have to do huge scales of loot to see the difference. I posted the pic elsewhere but this is just a small sample, but in my time playing this has not changed from the start to now and remains the same average for me.

Lol I guess. But people should be lucky they see anyone at all. Games like Aion just have community coordinators who have nothing to do with development. They get their information from some guy who knows a guy who met a guy who heard a rumor that “X” thing might happen soon. Whereas here you get devs, designers, community leads, mods, all sorts of people posting all over the forums and responding to people. And that is a great thing to see. Sometimes people don’t realize how nice something is unless they never had it or lose it. We get videos, feeds, live-streams, blogs, interviews up the wazoo. And I think it is great they take their time to respond when they have so much to do.

Then don’t do it? It is a core part of how they want their game, if you don’t like it you don’t have to do it. I doubt they will change it because it is how they wish to develop the game and its story. There are plenty of other things to do in game, and plenty of other games to enjoy. Lots of games have static, stale added content that you can repeat 1 million times for same rewards, if that’s what your in to.

How it works:

1. Anet lets us know they have an update coming.
2. Anet posts a preview page for the event/update.
3. Anet posts the actual page for most info.
4. Anet either
   a. Updates the game and quickly posts release notes
   b. Posts release notes and updates the game

There are variations, but generally I think this is how it is done. Be patient, even devs need to sleep.

I think most people and devs would say simply the “Living Story”, and content released after.

“an audience 20 times smaller than WoW” is still 400 -500K. There’s not a lot of MMOs with current populations that large.

Also from what I can glean, box sales for GW2 are assigned as sales income to NC Interactive and NC Europe (since they are handling retail distribution) in those reports and only direct online purchases are assigned to ANet. Likely Gem card sales are assigned the same way.

Arenanet changes loot to garaunteed yellow drop from veteran, exotic from champ. Bots/RMT farm these for 1 week, 24 hours a day, Trading Post prices on rares/exotics drop to nothing. Crafters are now useless, ectos start costing 2s, everyone has epic gear in 2 days and quits. Just sayen.

I can’t tell if sarcastic.. Legendarys are same stats currently as exotics. Top gear in GW2 has nothing to do with stats, but to do with looks. Aside from Ascended which isn’t needed anywhere outside of fractals. If gear actually mattered, then yes, p2w.

What would reduce the 72 hour suspension by 100% would be people following the rules. Foul language does not equal maturity, nor does it make anyone look more “adult” than anyone else.

The filter is there as a safeguard, it is not a free pass for people to speak foul language of any kind. Much like people who argue that we have free speech and threaten a president who end up in prison. There is some common sense to be had in these situations, I know that is probably a swear word in itself on the internet..

I think people are more wanting the bugs fixed and other issues addressed before large content addons. As Arenanet announced way back that they don’t want to put content over a working game. I think the steady stream up flowing Living Story (which usually includes fixes/addons as they progress) is working pretty well. But I understand where your coming from, sometimes I feel like I beat the game :P But I’m patient

I’ll be happy to contribute further to the Ecto thread already made in the future with larger numbers and after patches.

On a side note keep in mind that tons of people are now receiving rares, some of which are either used to lots of rares, not used to lots of rares, or somewhere in between. There will be conflicting reports but the information remains the same. Your drops along with everything else in game are controlled by statistical mechanic that decides the outcome with a RNG incorporated. These are monitored by staff and programmers and we are only able to see half of that “pie”. With what we have we do research based on what we do know which gives us a rough idea of an outcome. So long as unbiased information is retained and the games mechanic themselves do not change, we will maintain a consistency which we can then voice our concerns about once all data is clearly understood and displayed.

Gold sellers are generally very low paid workers in outside countries. These workers have very few jobs, specifically they focus on one task such as gold farming or monitoring bots.
A different person would do the effort of hacking/phishing/buying accounts with stolen information or in desperate situations from actual revenue. The traditional gold farmer seeks to:

1.Gain gold
2.Sell Gold

1.
a.Gaining gold through players selling for very low amounts, then in turn selling to make profit.
b.Gaining gold through farming, botting, or stolen/stripped accounts.

2.
a.RMT then sells through websites, most of which are simply umbrella companies (fake named sites that all work for 1 real company) each offering a cheaper price than the other.
b.Sells through in game spam, which fortunately is a dead end in GW2 as they lose the account immediately, thus hurting their profit.

Some quick facts about RMT:
The person doing the selling/buying/botting usually gets paid very little to keep costs down. These people usually work in groups in small closed off rooms with many computers and desks etc. Most the time these people are in other countries and sell either-
a.Directly to companies that sell to players.
b.Directly to players via their own site.

Now keeping in mind not all rmt are asian, “bad people”, or evil so to speak. Some may simply be making a small living, but this is besides the point. RMT IS bad, and it IS against the rules of every MMO I can think of.

Arenanet does an amazing job of deleting bots and rmt. I do not log in to RMT spam every single day like some other games I won’t mention.

Now as for the buying gem with the ill gotten gold, imo, this seems false. An RMT is given limited time and are paid for their work. Meaning that if they do not make a good amount of gold they do not get paid, and have limited time to do so. Most likely an RMT will not take a chance on buying gems to inflate/deflate anything. RMT focus on one thing and that is making money as quickly and efficiently as possible.

As for the calling out arenanet on exact numbers, well I can tell you from maybe 12+ years of MMO’s not once have I ever seen a game company give away their tactics on bots/rmt. People like FFXI GM’s would create teams to work on botting/hacking/rmt etc, and they would tell you "X amount of rmt/botters have been banned and X amount of gold has been removed from the system. Beyond that we need not know what goes on. Botting may not be gone, but it certainly is no where near the epic proportions of other games. John Smith has done very well to answer questions in an intelligent and formal manner without simply closing the thread or not caring.

There is a ton of other things to be worked on, there’s a ton of threads that could use the devs,leads,cc’s,cm’s, attention. there are bugs, glitches, imbalances, living story work, development work, all that need attention more than someones wish to understand how security works in someones business. There is a key to understanding security, those on the inside have the tools and know-how, whilst those on the outside know only what they can find or are told. I don’t believe Arenanet is out to get anyone, is hiding things that could hurt the game, or is in any way hindering their own game.

People can continue to bash them, the employees, and their work, but this is all for nothing. if all this thread was is to voice concern then I think it has hit its mark. We all understand it was a bad situation, that RMT are bad and hamper game progression and fluidity, but we cannot call-out these people working on the game every 5 minutes because we want to know exactly how they do every little thing. They aren’t controlling us through some scheme or web of lies. And if I ever had that feeling surely I wouldn’t be here. I spent time under leaders in the military who truly would lie just to hush the concerns of personnel, who would risk lives on hunches or quick plans. What I’m saying is there are bad people out there who are corrupt and look to take advantage of you, of everyone. But this company, this game, is not the rabbit hole and clearly some people have started the drop down the tin foil hat tunnel of illusion.

Don’t forget the best place to get these is in low pop servers, in places that aren’t often visited by players. Some etiquette is nice to have as well- taking a moment to look around you for anyone close before activating, keeping the max players at each activation to less than 3 will allow better results especially in low level areas. The coffers and candy are available on broker from other players, as are the minis. Good luck to everyone who farms these or buys them from players/gems, just try to be considerate so it doesn’t ruin the fun of others.

I understand your frustration. My thief just started using haste and before I really got to get comfortable with it in PvE it was dropped to 50% ^^; Yes I was a little annoyed with the change but I completely understand that it can be used improperly in WvW etc on certain classes. Balance is always a difficult thing to work on, it will most likely never be perfect. But this is a step they believe will help. That doesn’t mean however that it can never change. Perhaps in the future classes will change to allow for this mechanic to be changed back or improved in some way.

Face it, this game was made to capitalize on the success of GW1 and make some quick money. The only reason they kept the name was because the name would sell better than something different.

Lore really has nothing to do with it.

Would you apply this to anything else? Would you say Guild Wars 1 was named as such even though the fact is that many devs and designers had a part in World of Warcraft? They build up their name, they realized something worked and they continued on with it. This is a huge practice among publishers and develpers. often times publishers who even hear a dev mention “new idea” instantly dismiss it. Because they know what has sold is what should sell. Is this always true or good? Nope. It’s a great idea to step away from the norm and be different. Look at portal and some other niche type games. Look at it on paper and tell me that it sounded like a good idea. These people didn’t just profit, they excelled at what they had done. Plenty of other examples: Minecraft, the original Final Fantasy series, and so many more I’d actually have to look up. They (Arenanet) took a safe route but at the same time they learned from mistakes and fixed those. Then added their own finesse to the game and style.

So you may not have your “guild wars” quite yet. Big deal. They will capitalize on what has worked and continue to hopefully surprise us with things never done before. Check out metrics in gaming, it is interesting stuff to learn. The simplest thing i can say about them is that they only measure how well something worked not how well it will work. So that’s what they go off of, too many risks too many changes can be a bad thing. Balancing risk with cost and time is never easy but don’t expect GW2 to become an HD copy of GW1. It simply won’t happen. But this doesn’t rule out the fact that they could add features you have seen and loved before.

Because MMO’s are too darn gloomy and serious. A change in pace is nice. Also, suspense keeps you stuck to your screen as does fear. What happens to people who can only be logged in 30 minutes – 1 hour a day? you expect to keep their attention with horror and drama and dark seeded stories? Not gonna happen. If you want drama or fear or mind bending stories, well that is what consoles are for. You should be able to be crazy about your game no matter your tastes. If you aren’t there is something else out there for you. Go to CNN and read the top 20 stories, now do that every day for a year. Follow whats going on in the world and tell me you don’t want to log in and hear some asura say “who would want anything that gives you harpys anyway”. I think it is about time the goofy theme entered the MMO world, aside from goofy graphics (won’t mention names…). GJ to Arenanet getting it. And a veteran thanks them for creating something I can drift away to and laugh with. Real life has enough problems, why live in 2 worlds full of them.

I have 11 alts, I bought one. Enjoying the volcanic animation as I play ^^ I don’t need my other 10 alts farming ore. Cheap $10 purchase, can’t wait to see more cool animated items ideas from anet.

Fan boy, nothing wrong with us wanting either a little cheaper or account bound. I have spent roughly $200 on this game so don’t call me cheap. But I want to feel I’m getting my money worth. Worst exchange rate ever in gems to gold and this is over priced as well. Everything else so far in the Gem shop is reasonable.

/shrug 10 bucks is 10 bucks to me. And Idk about the fanboy comment. I spent around 800 dollars over the last 2 months on the game because it was fun, and I could. I support games that I enjoy. If I’m a fanboy for that, then ok. Again, it is 10 bucks, people at mcdonalds minimum wage in cali make that in an hour. As for gold – gems, takes me a day to make 20g. So kinda lost on the problem here. But to each their own I guess.

You are also missing the gold sink economical issue account bound versions would cause over time. But whatevs.. I have one, mining ori and mithril with lava feels pretty epic with my fused bow, 2 daggers, and greatsword.

Mini dragons that fly in and hover and attack players. Need to be ranged and have enough health to be formidable but not devastating. Should be at all dragon fights, scaled to players ie 1 mini dragon for a few people 2 for medium etc. Each with interesting skills (not 1 shotting skills..).

Maw: The shaman chief should call a dragon that fly’s in and gusts-knocks back everyone X amount of meters and fly’s away.

Dome champ should have something added since it has no chest. Not sure what here..

SB needs something, perhaps a wave attack that pushes back the entire crowd or knocks down. Swamp forms a giant tidal wave and swoosh, everyone has to run back in and keep attacking :P It should also probably cause a small amount of poison just for affect.

Most zones need a random named champion who just wanders around to random paths. This would create a dynamic boss event at anytime and it could be different named ones, even incorporate story to them. Maybe drop a chest (no bonus), or just special named items that are “cool” but not epic. Bosses who are fun for the sake of being fun. But might wanna make most of them non aggro, as to not kill poor newbies in areas.

Most importantly, bosses who show data of being highly mobbed seriously need at very least more HP. It is a simple and not complex fix, but good until better adjustments can be made. Some people can barely get hits in before some of these die.

Anywho, those are my ideas I thought up in 5 minutes :P
