Non Permanent Items Ruined Economy

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

Please elaborate on how an optional dye ruined the economy in any way. And then explain why prestige items should be brought back and given out like cotton candy.

Explain why you get to put words in the original posters mouth then demand that he justify them.

No words were put in, they feel entitled to get prestige items after they are gone. Had these items been permanent they would not be prestigious. The title of the thread is “Non permanent items ruined the economy”, I said elaborate on why it ruined the economy. Using a statement that most people use to make themselves sound smart when it is not applicable has the opposite effect.

When stating something in a forum, one should justify those claims, with or without appeal from posters. That is basic forum etiquette, otherwise you have randoms blurting out “the game is bad” in every thread with nothing constructive.

To further elaborate on what I said- Those dyes are prestige items now, as is the pick. A prestige item in real life would be something like an heirloom from hundreds of years ago that your family held onto which has a great worth(assuming it has real world worth to a collector etc). A non prestigious thing would be something that is available to anyone with very low cost, ie cotton candy.

If you are new, or even if your not, you may find some helpful tips about the BLTC here.

Many people who play the game have a basic understanding of how to use the BLTC, the broker, the trading post, whatever your comfortable with calling it. Its actual full name is the Black Lion Trading Company. You can find NPC’s in most major cities and sometimes outside who will allow you to pickup your items or funds from the BLTC. You can however sell your items from anywhere in the game, thus alleviating the need to go to the NPC every time you want to make a transaction (other than collection).

You may have seen these NPC’s in game they all have this icon above their head:
http://i1334.photobucket.com/albums/w654/Geotherma/gw091_zpsad9c1ead.jpg

Now that you know what the BLTC is and where to find it, there are some other basic links that can help you on your way:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Trading_Company
The above link will explain in detail about the BLTC and its many uses.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/
The above link can be used to watch prices and changes within the economy of GW2.

Now for the important part~

When using the BLTC remember to make sure that you check the 2 very important values of the item you are selling:

Meet highest buyer: This person is generally buying large amounts of this item, but usually at a lower price. You want to make sure that you do this is a last option as it could potentially lose you a large some of money over time. Sometimes it will be blatently obvious-
http://i1334.photobucket.com/albums/w654/Geotherma/gw088_zpse5067c03.jpg

Sometimes it will be close to the other price, which brings me to the 2nd option.

Match Lowest seller: This person is selling the item at the lowest price. You can sell your item at this price which is usually higher than the buy orders (as they are looking to get cheaper items), or you can sell in between the two.

You could sell the item lower than the lowest seller, but higher than the highest buy order. Thus making sure you are getting at least most of your money. Some items share a very small gap, maybe only a few copper, these items usually are a steady flow and thus lack the flipping potential of other items.

Flipping is the process of buying low and selling high, much like a stock market. Buyers buy bulk of items at low cost, and either resell or wait for the market to fluctuate to make a profit. Now there is nothing wrong with this, but if you do not want to feed them your hard earned gold, remember the two types of selling I listed above.

Over time you will learn what sells well, and be excited to see certain items drop. Pay close attention to the buy and sell orders to be sure you are making the profit you seek. There is nothing wrong with selling your loot to the highest buyer at a small loss, just keep in mind that technically you are losing money. Also remember there are fees for selling, so you in turn get even less.

One final note on using the BLTC. To maximize profits and efficiency you can check the price of the item at the NPC to see if you would make more from selling directly (no fees), or if you would benefit from selling to the BLTC. Time to time certain items like themed items will be in demand, take advantage of those events and gather items that you can use or save for later. Don’t forget to salvage any item that says salvageable with the appropriate tools. And remember to open loot bags, as you often make much more from opening them than selling them.

Good luck on your adventures and I hope this helped with some basics about the BLTC.

PS for those interesting in how I salvage or sell my loot my personal style-
Sell to NPC whites,blues,greens.
Salvage salvageable with a basic salvage kit.
Salvage Rares with a Master or Black Lion kit. Master is fine if you don’t have BL kits.
Sell exotics directly.

Your personal style may differ, this is just the way I play.

Why is the tone and style of GW2 so "goofy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Geotherma.2395

Because MMO’s are too darn gloomy and serious. A change in pace is nice. Also, suspense keeps you stuck to your screen as does fear. What happens to people who can only be logged in 30 minutes – 1 hour a day? you expect to keep their attention with horror and drama and dark seeded stories? Not gonna happen. If you want drama or fear or mind bending stories, well that is what consoles are for. You should be able to be crazy about your game no matter your tastes. If you aren’t there is something else out there for you. Go to CNN and read the top 20 stories, now do that every day for a year. Follow whats going on in the world and tell me you don’t want to log in and hear some asura say “who would want anything that gives you harpys anyway”. I think it is about time the goofy theme entered the MMO world, aside from goofy graphics (won’t mention names…). GJ to Arenanet getting it. And a veteran thanks them for creating something I can drift away to and laugh with. Real life has enough problems, why live in 2 worlds full of them.

I can’t believe you just told someone to go to consoles for deeper gameplay.

I did. :P
My reason is because MMO’s require time to experience true immersion. In a console game there IS an end. An MMO, not so much. You won’t get the kind of story or in depth feel in an mmo that you can in a console or pc game, or heck even a movie. MMO’s try to emit this feeling but it is never easy. GW2 does a great job with story, but you really need to work for it and there will always be more to come. What I was trying to say is that the darkness, the depressing drama stories, are usually found in NON-MMO games. the deep ones at least. There are plenty of mmos that have dark or dramatic stories yes, but they are far overplayed and uninteresting because of that fact. Look at wildstar, I can’t for a second take that game seriously. But it looks pretty fun ^^ Even with the announcer in the background making it sound epic and super important, I know I’ll feel like a 5 year old playing it. And thats not such a bad thing sometimes. FUN is what MMO’s are missing, most times FUN is incorporated in events rather than storyline. In consoles or PC games that are not MMO, the focus is on the story, to get you into it and get you to the final result. In an mmo, there really isn’t a clear ending, as expansions and addons come out to keep the playability strong. The point of an MMo world is to be just that, a world. And you live there, with others, every day. Point of non mmo’s, beat the game-play the sequal-enjoy the experience until it is over.

I don’t feel players of MMO’s should ever feel like they need to reach the end of the story, the end of the game. I feel that they should feel ups and downs and development without constantly having to be depressed or sad or angry. They should feel that just playing the game, logging in and seeing the life of the game, that is the immersion people want. And humor is something that most mmo’s don’t use enough for that purpose.

Wasting of Resources and Time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Geotherma.2395

Summary~

Your Points:
1.“Why is Arenanet wasting resources on this? → https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/presenting-the-rytlocks-critter-rampage-game/

A. They didn’t it was voluntary and required no resources of arenanet on paid time.

2.“The time could be used to FIX bugs or ADD new stuff to the game.”

A.No it could not, because-
i. Was not on company time
ii. Was not done by the person who fixes bugs or adds things to the game

3."Even the Super Adventure Box is a WASTE of resources and time "

A. It created fun for a majority of players and even created revenue through gem store. Waste of time is your opinion, and while is allowed, is misdirected.

4.“when you all could use the time to MAKE CONTENT RELEVANT to the storyline on Tyria.”

A. Again, not the same people. Also, they do use their time to do so and they have people to do the managerial work for them, you are not one of these people.

5.“Make a new dragon appear or some new dynamic events that actually did PERMANENT change to the world of Tyria or something!”

A. Although i believe these people who did sab might be able to do this, again, not their job/not that team.

6.“Yes, the Molten Alliance storyline is cool and all, but if you all could just stop wasting time on making a Mario Brothers wannabe in 3D, you all could have make the Molten Alliance storyline even better.”

A. And this.. Well.. It was an April fools joke that gave a lot of happiness to many people and cash to support the game, which is needed for the content you speak of. So in essence, they DID create something to further the story. It is called revenue.

This concludes yet another drawn out thread that could have been answered/avoided in the first place had some serious thought been put into the worries of the player. I hope everyone has learned something here today.

Dungeon Difficulty

in Suggestions

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

775 Hours 2 months play time.

I’ve been playing about two months and just recently got my second level 80, my Asura Thief. When I started the game I was really excited about all the aspects of it, the event style, the no kill stealing, so much was and is still very appealing. Something though that rubbed me the wrong way right off the start was dungeons.

My first attempt to find a dungeon didn’t go so well. I wanted to do CM story and looked for a group for some time with no luck. So finally someone invited me for CM explore. Now I am the level of this dungeon and in decent gear though I’ve never run it before. Upon getting to the door the group kicks me, I asked why and was told they want 80’s. The same happened to my wife because she said “I’ve never done this dungeon.” This mind you is my first week playing the game.. very disheartening. Now I don’t want this to deter me, many rude or elitist players out there and I understand this. So again I try to look for parties and finally get into a group. I go through the dungeon but have a ton of trouble as I’ve never done and don’t understand how the dungeon works or its skills needed. I do my best to stay alive and be a good part of the group but just about every mob inside who isn’t even a veteran kills me without any trouble. And a few times the entire group is just stopped and dropped..

So time goes by and I no longer like dungeons as the community, including friends say that I should do them at 80 regardless the fact they are 30/40/50/60/70 dungeons.. In between I end up doing a few a total of 5. 5 runs total altogether, not 5 different dungeons. My overall experience was that I had no chance to survive at those levels, I did fine as an 80. This doesn’t seem like it was intended.

I understand that there is skill and tactics to the dungeons but if your new and trying them out you won’t know this. And you suffer for not knowing this, especially if your party also is not very knowledgeable of the dungeon. This months monthly was all done on my account except for Dungeons. The sole reason is i feel like they are difficult for anyone who isn’t fully geared and traited. It takes away from something that new players could genuinely enjoy, and feels like its a part of the game that wasn’t thought out very well. Keep in mind all this was BEFORE the patch, I hear now that they are even harder..

Is this what was meant to be? This difficulty and trouble enjoying a potentially large part of the game? I’m not complaining per say that the dungeons are impossible, but i feel like to enjoy them you need to go very much out of your way, possibly even beyond your means to complete them in an enjoyable way. I really wish they rewards felt like they were worth the effort, but after all the groups who deny low levels, and the difficulty of the dungeons, I feel sad that I cannot enjoy this part of the game. I’m a grinder at heart so I keep myself busy, but i would truly like to enjoy the dungeons in the game.

Is it possible that Arenanet could ever make the level appropriate dungeons more manageable for those levels and allow a “hard mode” for higher levels or more experienced players? Being able to chose the low level decent reward dungeon to do with friends would be great. And later on after you have done the paths enough and understand the dungeon you can try hard mode for even better rewards. Its just an idea, and this is just my experience. I know people splay styles and skills vary, and I am by no means an expert at the game. I really hope something can change in this respect and I can enjoy a large chunk of the game like others do.

tldr: Please allow low level players an easier or more manageable dungeon choice. And allow higher level, more experienced players a hard mode choice. Thank you and sorry for the long post.

Anti Casual

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

There is a problem when you can gear up in WoW 50x faster than you can get full exotics in GW2.

For a game that isn’t supposed to have grind it sure has the most I’ve ever seen. So… from what I’ve gathered in the replies in this thread, as long as the journey isn’t difficult it’s considered casual? So even if it takes you months to get exotics that’s casual? Lol.

Playing a few hours a day I made my first 80 in 1 week. By end of week 2 I had the full exotic berserker set. Week 3 and 4 I had every rune/sigil slotted, 400 cooking, 400 Jeweler and had started my thief. And this was all while avoiding leveling fast, which obviously you can see did not work. Casuals will need to simply have a clear path to what they want made out. The more hardcore players will do the same, but achieve them faster. All types of players have the same chance to achieve the same goals, there is simply one difference, and that is “time”. You simply can’t please everyone, all the time. But you can work on helping everyone all the time.

Without being rude about your statement “For a game that isn’t supposed to have grind it sure has the most I’ve ever seen.” I’m really confused by this… Which game are you comparing to? I’ve played FFXI 4 years, took me months and months to get 75 back in the day and over a year to get the best gear while playing every day. I had to do instances that would last 6+ hours for a “chance” to get ONE of my pieces of armor. Aion, took me over a month to hit max level, over 6 to have decent gear when it started. Unless you are comparing it equally to hundreds of MMO’s I’d say theres no proof anyone could say this game is “grindy”. Yes some things take longer, yes some items require more work. But this is the least grindy game I’ve ever played in 15 years of MMO’s.

PS: Casual does not mean “what you achieve in how short of a time”, it simply means “how long you play”. So yes, if your casual and you get your exotic sets in a few months, your doing just fine. No player type is better than another.

Catering to Casuals is Ruining GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

You guys just argue back and forth and back and forth. Elitists are ruining GW2, casuals are ruining GW2. you know whats ruining GW2? People who can’t stay the long haul, people who give up so easily on something because it isn’t perfect.

I find this a very interesting topic and I enjoy playing GW2.

Could you provide any evidence at all to your claim that " you know whats ruining GW2? People who can’t stay the long haul, people who give up so easily on something because it isn’t perfect.?"

Why do people on these forums keep saying things like " If all you can do is whine and moan about how bad it is then just leave, whats keeping you here?If all you can do is whine and moan about how bad it is then just leave, whats keeping you here?"

How is telling people to leave the game helping the game?

Nearly everyone who says “leave the game” because the person is complaining on the forums will tell you that only a small percentage of players even read the forums… so why tell anyone to leave the game? I’d like to see people on these forums stop doing this- stop telling people to leave the game. Stop telling people that this game is not for them. It’s not helping and you don’t work for ArenaNet so stop trying to be their spokesman.

Because people can’t get mats, people think Anet nerfed the mats. When in actuality it is because people simply aren’t there in Orr now, and rather in Southsun. But people would rather believe Anet nerfed the drop rate rather than stick with pure logic, it is ridiculous. I’d rather people leave than listen to this garbage, so many games like Aion are so much worse and despicable representations of MMO’s, and yet here were are in forums about how terrible GW2 is when it is the only MMO that has tried new things and tried to cater to the changes in style of MMO players. I’m not some brainwashed fanboy trying to pump up the game, I simple call for peace and honesty and intelligence. Which seems to be the least common commodity in this game right now. I swear I’m not calling everyone stupid, but seriously when is the last time someone posted something remotely helpful that isn’t a black and white representation of either hatred or love for the game? Is there no median? Is there no discussion to be had among the populous? It just disheartens me to know that so many people young and old find more fun in berating others than fixing a simple problem in something so trivial and yet so enjoyable as an MMO.

Magic Find - What I don't like

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

MF gear does not mean someone in your party is leeching off you. Yes they may have lesser stats, but they are not making 10X the gold you are. Most times MF gear is cheaper, and perhaps that is all they could afford. Did anyone even stop to think maybe the MF gear they are wearing is to support them so they can get better gear? Probably not, because everyone is too busy yelling at each other for being selfish. The argument that MF gear wearers are lesser than others is just elitists. It starts with "stop wearing crap MF gear, and ends up with “You don’t have exotics on?” ::Kick::

The reason people are arguing against the hate towards MF gear is not because they do not know their stats are lower, they are arguing because they know falling in line “here” means falling in line when (“You don’t have exotics on?” ::Kick::) happens. It all starts somewhere. The only person leeching in a group who has MF gear is the MF wearer who has no want or desire to learn their skills and the dungeons. Those are the ones you should be directing this whole off topic thread at. But no, most everyone is just tossing into a group of “bad” anyone who doesn’t wear non MF gear. Maybe you all need to take a breather and realize how very little gear matters in this game. You can sit here and argue with each other all day and accomplish nothing from it.

MF wearers could be trying to support themselves with that gear and/or maybe thats all they could get. Instead of throwing insults at everyone who mentions they wear MF gear, maybe you should save them for in game when you find players who REALLY ARE leeching. Because I find that berserker geared people can leech just as much when they are dying in 5 seconds, or have no skill.

You need to direct your frustrations towards lazy people, who can be in ANY gear. Otherwise you just sound like your jealous they have “mad loots”, and you don’t and they are leeching. If a skilled player is in MF and lacking stats, and they are good at dungeons, then they should be rewarded for such. Someday they may get new gear and be even better with stats, because the first important thing in this game is skill. Your gear type only helps to achieve balance for your skill and direction, it does not define who a person is.

This is not WoW, this is not Aion, this is not EVE. Spend more time constructively understanding the problems we have in game, and stop AOE’ing everyone with insults just because they have a different idea or opinion than you. I’ve seen more bickering and name calling on forums than in most teen drama shows… I’ve uploaded something that will get everyone back in the right mindset so that future generations do not have to see how very rude and destructive everyone is.

You can keep using conjecture to try and make your point, but it is still conjecture.

Also, player burnout has nothing to do with this conversation. I don’t know why you are so adamant about tell us about the evils of hardcore gameplay. Really, if you are so smart about how to sell things to people, you would know that a lot of unhealthy things sell really well. Cigarettes are a really good example. It has nothing to do with right or wrong.

The conversation is about money. What keeps servers running, MONEY. What keeps Arena Net running? MONEY. What makes money for Guild Wars 2? Box sales and the cash shop. Its pretty obvious who is more inclined to buy gold for GW2 via the cash shop; those with limited play time who don’t want to grind.

I put one little snippet about burnout and you go on a tantrum. And why are you talking about McDonald and cigarettes? And you call my post conjecture?

I farm Orr and other events, as per my guild I’m a hardcore gamer who plays about 10 hours a day sometimes more. At the same time I have spent around $600 between March 1 and April 1 on the game. Only 50 gems of which did I transfer to gold. So it is purely speculation that a casual gamer would spend more/less on the game based on play style. I love dropping event items around Tyria for others, those people now get to enjoy content that cost me gems. And the sole purpose of doing this is to help make the game (at least on my server) just a little more exciting for people.

My broad definition: A casual gamer is someone who can easily break away from the game, go play another, or do something irl. They do not fit into 1 concrete definition and neither do hardcore gamers. It is a broad statement usually used in attempt to completely separate one style of gaming to another, but is based on opinions not facts.

To label a person a “true” hardcore or casual player is only possible by the basic time idea, and the opinion of the actual player and no one else. Today to someone a hardcore player could mean someone who plays 50 hours a week, tomorrow it could mean you can get through all content in a few days because of strenuous work. In the end it doesn’t matter, the definitions are not true definitions. They are simply broad ideas used to separate one end of the spectrum with the other. But in no way would everyone fit on one end or the other, most (I assume) can fall anywhere in between. And in this case that makes every gamer neither hardcore or casual. On the opposite side of this, I know people who play only a few hours a week and buy gem cards regularly.

As far as the game itself, well that can more easily be described using those terms. And in that essence you can use skill, time, effort to place a definition on it. But gamers will never, ever, agree on what the exact definition of either is for other gamers. Because none of us want to be labeled in a way that someday in the future could be used in a derogatory way. So the entire discussion is moot. In fact, I’d remind most posters that the title was “is guild wars 2 doing well”. To actually answer this I would say: It seems to be doing well. Financially, population, fun factor wise? Email Arenanet and ask, because they are the only ones who can answer that with facts.

Is Guild Wars 2 Doing Well?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Geotherma.2395

I think the overproduced RPG aspect of MMORPG has really burned players out. Everyone isn’t expecting a WoW 2, they are expecting something worth playing with or in addition to what they already love. People have enveloped themselves both physically and socially into these games. Those companies who seek to tear people away from games that hold a firm position in the lives of gamers will find failure at every turn. It is in the best interests, and clearly something Arenanet understands, to allow gamers flexibility. They don’t want you to leave your friends in WoW, they don’t want you to abandon your pvp buddies in Aion. They want you to play the game and enjoy it, knowing full well that your friends here, and your friends there, will welcome you back every time you switch.

Designers and big wigs that attempt to grab players from other games are missing the point. The purpose of most games is to get our time, and our time is a limited thing. How does one go about tearing a gamers hours between two games? the answer is, they don’t. Players aren’t one cloned type of people, we love role playing and can love shooting our enemies or mind blowing puzzles as well. While developers try to incorporate all that into one game, it doesn’t make that game the end all win all of MMO’s. Very much so it makes that game scattered, and often players spend more time trying to find out where they fit in than actually playing. In the coming months and even years you will see ideas that push the envelope of gaming. What you won’t see is the next big WOW Killer. Because simply put it doesn’t exist. WoW is a great game to some people, as are many other MMO’s. But it has become a world where we are split apart enjoying different things. And until developers learn to bring us together rather than pull us away, no MMO will be truly revolutionary.

So can we tell if GW2 is dying/succeeding? In most cases the answer is no. Tons of people playing today doesn’t mean it is doing good tomorrow. Tons of subs doesn’t make a game good either. People need to stop thinking in terms of what is better than something else, and simply what is enjoyable period. Do you like WoW? Great, so do tons of other people. How about EVE, FFXI, FFXIV, TESO, DESTINY? Yes? Great! Now where are we going with this? Well none of those games are going to be the end, none of them will be the game that gets you, me, or anyone else to leave everything we love. None of them will pull us away from our friends, at least not forever. We build bonds in these games, friendships, some that go beyond casual. It is time we stop asking if a game is alive or dying, and start asking why aren’t the AAA games working together? We aren’t basement dwelling balls of slime, hiding away from the world like some portray us to be. We are living breathing, thinking people. And we don’t log on to make your game seem alive. We log on because we enjoy your game, we enjoy the community. If we don’t then we simply wouldn’t. The entire discussion is great, but in the end I think we are all thinking inside the box (pun intended). All games are alive, all games have some part of our limited time. So why not stop asking if we are playing a dead or alive game, and start asking how we can enjoy more games more often.

Less forcing players to log in to keep the world alive, less forcing people to play “X” game. Give us a reason to play this AND other games, not toss the cake in front of us to pull us away from what we also enjoy. I think Arenanet gets this, I think most publishers do not. Which is why the very few make amazing games we keep coming back to. While others are like sweet treats we like now, but walk away from later. Look at minecraft, indie game, not everyone loves. Amazing graphics? Not really. Best story line ever? Nope. Will some people go play it along with their other online games? Yep. Some people get it and some people don’t. You will never be able to judge life of MMO’s in the same light as people once used to. We are no longer playing Amazing games VS crappy games. We are playing many great games with bright futures. While this is a great topic of discussion, there is no clear answer. Those who argue yes or no, are lacking the depth of the conversation, and the depth of themselves. We are not pigeons pecking at a red button for food. We choose to have options, choose to have a choice in the first place.

You say all that, OP, but then when you have people screaming “Patch notes naooo!” and people that expect major updates every month, it is obvious that some things are missing and some things are not important enough to point out.

Also NCsoft pays the bills, they have the right to say what they want and take game in direction they want. We got GW2 pretty much because GW1 was successful largely due to the way NCsoft pulled out the right financial cards with no sub for example.

Actually we pay the bills lol And whether or not someone says “we want this now” is besides the point. Just because they are successful doesn’t mean they can handle the business anyway they like. the same holds true for any business. Imo everything is important to put into patch notes, it shows integrity, it shows thoroughness. There is a lot more to my post than this.

We thought we should put in our 2 cents as well.

Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.

Some players have run into “diminishing returns” thresholds we put into the game to provide a safety net against unanticipated economy-breaking issues. We do have these thresholds in place, but it’s not our intention that normal players should ever run into them. We’ve recently had bugs and imbalances that have caused normal players to hit thresholds, and we’ll fix those.

These systems are put in place to protect the economy from botters and exploiters. We will close exploits as quickly as we can. These thresholds help create a safety net to keep the economy safe when we aren’t there to deal with the offender. It’s important to have a safety net in place. It would be bad for everyone if, for example, a group of players learned how to speed-clear a dungeon in 5 minutes, with full rewards each time, and then repeated that continuously. When one activity emerges that’s order of magnitudes more profitable than anything else in the game, it forces everyone to either engage in that activity or get priced out of the economy.

While we need a safety net to stop unanticipated economy-breaking exploits and botting, we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.

Initially we have to rely on smaller data sets, instinct and some guesswork to find the correct cutoff. What this means is that some players are going to bump into the edges of these systems for a while as we get them sorted out. Please bear with us while we gather more data and lower the safety net until it’s only providing critical economy protection. Looking at the numbers this morning, we believe some of the threshold systems are just too harsh empirically and we’ll be adjusting those systems within the next few weeks to ensure that fewer legitimate players are being impacted.

I hope this helps to explain why a game like this needs systems such as this to protect its economy. I also hope it gives some insight into our philosophy about botters (BAD) and exploiters (BAD) vs. farmers (GOOD). Thanks for your support and we will see you in game.

Black Lion Chest/Key Improvement

in Suggestions

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

I was fiddling around with a few ideas and figured I would share. I haven’t spent long analyzing all the drawbacks etc so hear me out :P

As many of you know BL chests drop pretty frequently for most. But the keys not so much. I think one way to improve this would be to make it so that the Mystic Forge rewarded you a key for X amount of boxes. I don’t know the best ratio but lets say you have 20 Black Lion Chests, which are going for around 3c on TP right now. You take 20, 5 of each, and put into the Mystic Forge. You get rewarded 1 key for the deposit. This allows you to go use it on another chest. Another benefit of this is the economic part, with this idea the chests would possibly go up in price a little. Maybe, say, 10c each? So if you don’t all those chests you can simply make a decent game coin off them. I’ve included a pic below for people to see.

My second idea is sort of similar but differs in 2 ways. instead of 20 (or X amount) boxes it would only be 3. You head to the laurel vendor and for 1 laurel you buy an item to combine with the 3 boxes. You toss in the Mystic Forge the 3 chests and the 1 laurel item you bought. And boom a key Since people won’t have tons of laurels it won’t hurt the gem store too much and will help the economy for people selling boxes.

With either of these ideas Anet could add more items to drop from these boxes, making them more wanted and interesting. Perhaps even adding event items to them during game events during things like Halloween, Christmas(Winter season), etc.

Well that’s my idea for the boxes, let me know what you think. I look forward to the constructive replies.

Do you like one or the other? Both or neither? And why? Thanks for your input.

Wasting of Resources and Time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

Why is Arenanet wasting resources on this? -> https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/presenting-the-rytlocks-critter-rampage-game/

The time could be used to FIX bugs or ADD new stuff to the game. Even the Super Adventure Box is a WASTE of resources and time when you all could use the time to MAKE CONTENT RELEVANT to the storyline on Tyria. Make a new dragon appear or some new dynamic events that actually did PERMANENT change to the world of Tyria or something!

Yes, the Molten Alliance storyline is cool and all, but if you all could just stop wasting time on making a Mario Brothers wannabe in 3D, you all could have make the Molten Alliance storyline even better.

There’s always an ungrateful pup in the mixed. Just because you think it a waste, Anet didn’t and neither did the players who enjoyed it.

I am not ungrateful. I only asked why they wasted resources and time on it. If I am ungrateful, I would have phrased my post differently and most swearing or kittens..etc.

And I did not say dislike it SAB or the flash game. In fact, I love it (SAB), had a great time running around with other pugs but that is another matter altogether.

Then it wasn’t really a waste then was it. Your “fun” was the reward. So if time invested =fun, I’m missing the point of this entire thread. Unless your saying they wasted time on making something you enjoyed. Which, well, makes this all very confusing.

I bought it for $10, no gold was spent. The gem card I bought was at Gamestop and I had a coupon for $10 off ANY purchase. So my 1200 gem card cost around $6(tax is lame). When will I see ROI? the moment I logged in, used the pickaxe and both my son and wife wouldn’t let me play until they could use it too. Not everything is measured in monetary value, ROI can be pure and simple enjoyment. If I invest in a nice suit, and it gets me compliments my investment was worthwhile. Could the suit pay for itself in other ways? Sure, it could make an employer see me as a professionally dressed person. People need to stop seeing the pickaxe, and some other items as something you need to get your money back on. Sometimes in life you simply invest time or money into something and your happiness is all the payback you need.

If you want a ROI on the pickaxe here it is:

You bought the pickaxe, it supported development of the game. Gj.

Very few people ran to their GW2 game and bought the pick thinking “OMG I’m going to save oodles and oodles of money!”.. At very least I’m sure they bought it for the convenience (as all gem store items are) and maybe the cool effect.

Inventory.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

With all the bi weekly updates, events, new items, new currencies, it really feels like we need some more organization options in the game. Currently I’m maxed out on bank tabs, maxed on inventory tabs, and I do not have “mule” characters or accounts. My bank is pretty much full with various soulbound/accountbound/rare items from the game both the core of it and the living story arcs. I feel that if we will continually have more event items, more weapon skins/armor skins etc, that we need an upgrade. This isn’t so much a suggestion as a need imo. Imagine someone with 5 or 6 favorite dungeons trying to hold all their tokens for future gear, or players who do every new LS event. You can max out your bank on core items only, to add event items, armor sets, prestigious/rare/never returning items to it, just makes it seem overwhelming without the proper space.

Players shouldn’t have to make personal guilds for bank space, and soulbound/account bound items won’t go in anyway. And players shouldn’t also have to use alts to carry all there items either as most of us play all our characters and don’t like a useless character sitting there as a bank. Most MMO’s like Aion, FFXIV, and others allow a separate bag in inventory for event items or armor. As well as either much much bank/inventory storage upgrades to hold all our stuff. I doubt players mind paying for more bank tabs, or even if event bags are made, expanding those for gems. I feel that I speak for many of us when I say there currently isn’t enough space for us to house what we want on our characters, and that some system like event bags or simply more space should be provided soonish. The bi weekly events are great, and I’ve enjoyed most of the LS and game itself.

But if your going to toss hundreds of new “carry-able” things in the game, we will need a place to put them. I may not have all necessary items only, or even items people feel should be in a bank, but the game is meant to be played how we like. In this spirit of the game I believe we should be allowed to have more inventory to hold onto the things “we” value, whether others value them as much or not. Thanks for your time, I added a pic of my current bank, please keep any nonconstructive thoughts to yourself. And no this isn’t an entitled thread, I believe everyone will need or does need more space now or very soon in the future for this content. PS. The picture doesn’t show the 20 stacks of gathering tools spread among all my characters and taking up space. Wish they stacked higher.. Also I haven’t been playing as much so the extra items are for my newer characters when they are made in the future.

This engine is still buggy as hell in its hardware detection and usage.
I´m about to do a core hardware upgrade from AMD (PhenomII 965) to Intel(3570k), and if this crappy & buggy performance still persists this game will be dead to me.

Plain and simple.

@HawkMeister.

You might be dissapointed then. I’m running on i73770k, GTX680, SSD,16GB gaming ram. GW2’s performance (all settings on full specs) is still poor IMO because of its engine.

Could you elaborate on “poor”? Like, what exactly do you notice performance wise that causes you to believe you have performance issues? My specs are in my signature, obviously some of us are not the majority as far as our pc’s, but there’s nothing wrong with lower end. Just curious what you categorize as poor.

Also to the others who are comparing GW2 (an MMO) to single player games-stop it. Naught people, just don’t. :P

I would love to see the difference though when PVE no longer has culling. Then we could truly see how much the game takes as far as resources.

on FPS, less populated map avrg 115 frames, higher populated map avrg 75-85 fps and in WvW avrg 25-30 fps (after culling is removed)

additional info:when world boss chest loot is only soulbound, on claw of jormag event, 25-35 fps on avrg

it’s true, can’t compare MMOs with single player games like Skyrim for MMO specification needs to cater to the majority of gamers. However if I use Aion as comparison, Aion’s graphics and FPS is better.

Aions graphics were definitely more complex, and I did get good fps there. But that game is a huge resource hog… I read from wiki I think that GW2’s engine was a highly modified version of gw1. Granted this was probably cheaper, but in the long run they may have decreased the ability to optimize it very much beyond what it is. I mean could you imagine FFXIV using the same setup as FFXI…. But since you played Aion as well you probably remember when they did the hmm.. 2.0? Update or maybe 3.0 where they upped the graphics engine or something? Was that to an entirely different or upgraded engine? Or just a tweak? I ask because I wonder if GW2 could do the same. Not trying to get too much aion-age in the thread, but I think it is still relevant http://gameguide.na.aiononline.com/aion/Advanced+Graphics+Engine shows the type of advanced options the other NCsoft game had. PS from reading looks like it was 2.5 patch.

I often farm mithril more because Ori is never on an easy path and I am at times very lazy :P Prices will rise and fall just like the ectos are, and don;t forget there are TP players that post on forums just to influence (even if just for a short time) prices to their advantage. And sadly it actually works sometimes.

Ectos are tanking!: TP players and other scramble to buy them out, price goes back up, $$.
Ectos are going to rise because of X patch!:Players rush to buy them all and people unload ectos as the price rises.

Prices come back to a lull, and people rinse and repeat. Then John comes in and lazer blasts everyone with single sentences for 9000 damage.

Ah the circle of life :P

SAB: Ok what kind of game is this?

250 years of time is no small amount in the realm of technological and scientific advancement. Throwing magic in the mix can just speed things up.

Props to ANet for not making another fantasy world that stagnates for millenia.

Oh really, so the asurans magiclly invented retro 8 bit arcade game items, ok cool, well maybe soon they can also invent a magic burger king where i can get a burger and win a chance at a paper crown.

Cause thats the world thats starting to get made, its already hard enough taking anything seriously when i saw a 8 foot tall charr warrior with a bouncing quaggan back pack on, an anoying sounding 8bit digital pet is even worse.

Hate to tell you this but cheese burgers, french fries, pizzas and all sorts of other modern food have been in this game since day 1….

No paper party hats yet as far as I am aware but thats a different mmo game called Runescape….

The day they add tinfoil hats to gem store is the day the BLTC will crash overload. :P

Anti Casual

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

One topic that seems to be getting overlooked is the time investment to get these laurels and by extension ascended gear. A casual player will want to log in and play whatever aspect of the game he or she wants. A casual player doesn’t want to be faced with a chore that has to be completed every day. Another topic that keeps getting brought up is that casuals don’t need ascended gear. This is a terrible argument because everyone deserves to have top tier gear in this game. One of the design philosophies was that players would not need to endlessly grind to get the best gear. With the current implementation of the laurels it takes a month to get each item. That is certainly a grind and is made worse by requiring daily participation. A simple change would be to make ascended gear craftable thus removing the chore associated with the daily.

Grinding for a month for 1 piece of the best gear in game. I have no words to express how very much I wish EVERY game was this “difficult” in this aspect.

The forums are good in this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Forums are comprised in large by people who no longer play, like to qq, and not a direct representation of the game itself. That being said, the forums are nice in that not every MMO forum has replies daily by lead designers and devs. Some, for instance AION is comprised entirely of very few responses by CC’s and CM’s who get their information from a guy, who gets his information from a guy, who knows a guy, who met a guy, who had tea with a girl who works with a guy, who is the janitor at the building where the dev works, and he thinks he heard what they said on friday, last month.

The forums are pretty helpful minus the hate, just don’t let them dictate how you perceive this game, its company, or its players. For fun stuff, to see events we had like Anet hosted or player hosted you can look through forums. Be very careful in this section, as it is mostly comprised of angry people who argue about random issues, then derail the topic into something Seinfeld worthy.

At one point I offered to buy the game for friends and family, that way I didn’t have to play alone, but it didn’t work. Other gaming communities already look at this game as being a fail(mainly in pvp).

That is because they are defending the game they love. You can see the reverse effect here, how many threads say that GW2 ruined other MMO’s and is so much better in every way? Try and ask those people to play WoW or some other MMO aside from the upcoming AAA ones. And peoples expressions of “fail” are opinions only, not statements of fact.

How do you get rich?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

Hi,

I think it’s nearly impossible to get rich in GW2. I do a lot of events, guild missions, yet i am so poor. Can you make some solid cash without farming 24/7?

Yup. If you are as casual as you claim to be, you can just do daily bosses, maybe some cof and other additional stuff. You can easily get 10g/day.
If you can’t even do that then you don’t deserve all that fancy stuff you want. There are no magical ways to get rich in a blink of an eye. (unless you get incredibly lucky)

I still don’t understand how can casual player get 10g/day.

10 did I read that right, 10 gold a DAY for a casual player, if only that were true I would be mega rich by now.

1 gold a day is much more realistic.

Casual does not mean efficient. I casually farm, i could sum up my actual farming in maybe 3 events to 4 per hour. In that hour it is possible to make 4+ g. And that is without dungeons, so if you perhaps did 2-3 very quick CoF, then 2-3 Orr events, 10 actually seems a bit low.

Did you forget to mention that to get that kind of return from events, you need to pay the Magic Find tax?

I use 30%, which is 1 food. Is that too much for you? Even without MF, I can get at least 1g/hr. Again, guesting is open.

Whoa, that’s a nice tip. I have failed to explore cooking to its full potential.

30% MF 40% coin from the bars. Also if you gather the ingredients you can make like 200 which actually nets you 400. Use the 200 and sell the other 200 for profit ^^

CAN I Transfer to another server?

Will the transfer be free of charge?

I read on the gw2 wiki that by deleting all your characters you are free to choose a different server. Is this true, and has anyone tried it?

Bonus Question : If I am able to transfer freely will I be able to keep stuff I have on my bank? Such as gold and items?

:(

I’ve heard if you have no characters you can transfer free, haven’t found the info yet. As for bank, I assume without a character you have no bank.

Found.
The transfer fee is only charged if you have characters on your account; in other words, if your account has no characters or you delete all existing characters first, you will be prompted to select a new home world after creating a new character, free of charge.1

I can’t wait for this game to fail, been saying it was for awhile now and if they keep up what their doing nerfing all the drops and buffing all the mobs, this games gonna empty when EoS comes out.

I can’t stand a game that it feels like there is no feeling of reward for any kind of accomplishment or you feel like the people running it are punishing you for playing it all the time.

then why are you here? Plenty of grindy MMOs out there. Pick one and play it!

you realize this is the current king of grinding MMOs each patch they nerf rewards so you have to grind more to get anything unless you play with your wallet or spreadsheet the TP

Lmao king of grinding in mmos lol……. Thanks for that, haven’t heard any jokes that ridiculously funny in a while.

No Subscription Fees: Pros and Cons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

What would you say are the advantages of having no sub fee and the disadvantages as well, especially in the context of GW2?

biggest con in a non sub game is RNG boxes

They are in F2P games as well as P2P games. Also:
con 4 (kn) Slang
tr.v. conned, con·ning, cons
To swindle (a victim) by first winning his or her confidence; dupe.
n.
A swindle.
adj.
Of, relating to, or involving a swindle or fraud: a con artist; a con job.

Boxes hold items of various rarities, those rarities have been known by players. If you pick the wrong cup you still get an item. Not a con, a chance. And really wish people would stop putting RNG boxes into every single thread, it has its own threads, stop bleeding into every other one.

You’re joking right? F2P, B2P..same thing if you ask me, besides the initial purchase. The cash shops are the same..the unlocking of bag space..etc. I’ve never experienced an RNG box in a sub game. RNG in loot off bosses? Sure..but not RNG boxes, designed to get you to purchase as many as possible. You can hide it under the guise of having a chance all you want…if it was a sub game that chance would turn into you can get it by playing straight up.

Transmog gear (which are skins) in wow are locked behind content…like challenge mode dungeons and darkmoon festivities. In this game tho? You have to just keep buyion and buyin and buyin…or farming and farming and farming (isn’t that funny? You’re comeback will be about being able to obtain it in game…by contradicting all the other apologists about how this game isn’t about farming. lols)

If you think B2P=F2P I can’t help you. I’ve played far too many years of MMO’s to be ignorant to the differences in the models, but I’m not going to further derail someones threads so you can inject your RNG complaints into every discussion.

Exotic Drop Rates?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

as i see it, my personel drop rate is much lower than my guildies, friends and even my second account my son uses. ive been in gw2 since beta – i have 6 80 toons, all with map completion and a 70. here is my concern and would love an answer to.
2 million karma spent on orion boxes and no mini risen balth
40 runs in molten dungeon and no jetpack or mini
thousands of event chest and no precursor
why is this happening? and how is this going to be corrected?

2m Karma, do you have pics or vid? Cause 0 minis seems a lil off, maybe you should write a ticket. I have 5.. Some people have 20+ >.>

The molten runs I can understand, 40 for a low drop rate isn’t too “suspicious”.

No chest on 2nd try with thief so it is def for character. Still wondering about account, won’t know personally till 30 more minutes heh.. would suck if it was per account..

You can say that again. I was actually going to come to a conclusion on the question, but realised I may be jumping the gun.
Hopefully some details get revealed sooner rather than later.

I’m going to try on my warrior but many are saying account, i like to check myself.. with hope.. ::crosses fingers:: because say you want the chest for level 60 gear on your 60, means you can only do it on that character.. Or you want it on your 15-20.. Same.

And the peppercorn thing, I know its a diff topic, but kinda like to know where u get them now after patch lol..
