I have the best armour and stats at the moment, and i’m happy with everything. But I just sat back in horror as I watched a level 15 icebrood elemental in a low-level region remove half my health in a few seconds.

If they ever decide to make a gw3 I hope they get rid of that stupid scaling system, because it really makes the game look like child’s play.

Even if my health suddenly drops from 20k to 1.5k, I would expect a low level enemy to struggle against a level 80. My suspicion is that levels are actually meaningless in this game.

I’ve posted on this topic before, and I’m posting again because this is something that is still bugging me.

Here the question.

I am puzzled, why is it child’s play when you are annoyed about not able to one-hit kill a supposedly lower level monster. Isn’t it because you feel the need to be godlike? If that is the case, you should try korean mmorpg. Of course, please do not complain about grinding and pvpish environment because power come with a price. Otherwise, you still have single player game, you can use cheat code.

Hi Gaile, thanks for this info, it’s a huge relief for me and anyone else trying to complete the Winter’s Presence shoulders. However, I do have a few questions that I would like to ask, and hope you have the answers to.

  • Will the candy cane achievement be given similar treatment? It’s not required for the shoulders, but it’s still one that is on a similar progression scale as Festive Imbiber.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement progress the Wintersday meta after Jan 12? This is mainly a curiosity thing, am interested to know if the meta achieve will be locked after Jan 12 is over, even though anyone that really wants the meta won’t need it.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement’s progress carry to next Wintersday, similar to the Grawnk ones did from last year? Just another curiosity deal.

This is fascinating, if they really do go there as you said, they will become the sole small SEA/OCEANIC population in HOD. I mean, is [CV] and [SD] still alive? I remember [CV] is a small singapore-based guild but I have not seen them for quite a while. If they are alive and kicking, I will actually invite them to come onto CD and join up with the rest of the singaporeans, afterall CD has the most SEA among all the free servers, in fact, it might also be the only free server with significant SEA players.

Proposal Overview
Displaying members’ representing percentage.

Goal of Proposal
This is mainly for large guild with large number of members. There are some guilds with some level of flexibility but there might be players who are exploiting these flexibilities inorder for them to make use of large guilds’ resources (which are contributed by legit members) while enjoying benefits from other guilds. So, guild leaders and officers might want to know the amount of time individuals has spent representing the guild.

Proposal Functionality
An additional column in the guild members tab which display the representing percentage of the members. If anet did not keep track of such data, then, it is good to start from 100%. It might be good to reset the data every week or bi-weekly or monthly, in order to ensure the data maintain certain level of accuracy.

Associated Risks
Use more resources on the server-side. Guild server might become more sluggish.

In our guild we have noticed a definite drop in active player roles. We have also spoken with leaders of some other larger guilds. They have also noticed the same. People that previously would play a lot are just not logging in anymore. They are still around in TS, playing other games. I am sure they will come back for LS3. But as soon as that is done they will dwindle again I am sure.

I understand that this game does not have tiered gear progression. They don’t want your stuff to become obsolete. But, as a game dev, if you are going to do that you need to release more content, faster. People want either new stuff or to progress. Sure you can grind out a legendary and it might be fun for the first one. But it doesn’t make you any stronger, faster, better. It is just shiny. Anet really needs to up the production speed on new content otherwise the slow hemorrhage will continue imo

that is to be expected. HOT hype is just hype, it will not last. my guild had 100+ online at peak during the hype and now it die down to pre-HOT state. the number of people to recruit in the game is also noticeably lesser compare to pre-HOT. when large guilds too begin to shrink, it isn’t really a good sign for the game.

anet has been stretching the resources too thin, been too greedy and trying to achieve everything but end up not completing much. they made changes to existing contents when other contents are not really ready yet, this will result in players who enjoyed the existing contents and not satisfy with the new ones having no enjoyable contents to fall back to, this result such players to leave the game.

though HOT do have a lot of APs to do but not everyone are into APs. HOT do also have a lot of fancy skins but not everyone are into those skins. raid is nice and all but not everyone are into those legendary armors so they might only do a few just to experience the raid and stop. for these group of people, what can they do? if they are pve oriented, what are they suppose to do? so yes, like what you said, these group of players really do not have much to do in gw2.

Clearly you are not playing in WvW. It makes all the difference of having reasonably sized servers or completely empty matches. For many people WvW is only reason to play this game and nobody can deny there is A LOT less players now. For a game mode that requires massive amounts of players, that is very much a problem.

true, the world population status reflect that much. now, there isn’t any server that is full. they could transfer but some will think that why should they pay to transfer because of anet’s failure to have a contingency plan. some will rather quit than paying more.

I started moving up on the leaderboards during the “Great Content Drought of 2015”. Not many people are able to play the same game as consistently for years & years. Attrition is completely normal and not a particularly robust proxy for measuring how many are leaving due to any particular change.

Humans tend to try to build agreement for their ideas by using whatever means/verbiage they think will work. This is how we build our consensual reality. The underlying (mostly unconscious) assumption is that if Joe thinks the game is dying and posts about it, he expects others to agree. We also like to be right, so since he believes he is right, others should agree. This is generally why we see such posters dismiss disagreement using pejorative terms like “white knight.”

People in general also like to watch/comment about things going wrong, falling apart, failing, etc. This is why we see traffic jams on the side of the divided highway that is not affected by the accident. A lot of people can’t resist the urge to rubberneck.

On a game forum, there’s another motive. These types of threads sometimes seem to include either a desire for a particular feature, more content or something the poster thinks is essential. Then, the assertion is made that the game is dying and the desired whatsis will save it. The “game is dying” comments (or in this case, players are leaving) are a tactic to gain the developers’ attention and to — again — generate agreement that change X will save it.

As far as the pop cap, I think they changed the threshold drastically, which is why worlds haven’t opened up even after the exudes of the PvE peeps who tried it out. I dont think we’ll see BG open for months. And some of the others, like TV and other low pop servers are just on that edge.

I think they are trying to force people to spread out.

That’s not gonna work, any decent businessman will know that. Why would people move, especially if they have to pay for it? Why should they pay for it especially when they know it was intentionally lowered over and over again. It is common sense. People will just complain, like how I am complaining. If it doesn’t work, we let it die, we quit, we move on to other games, it is not like gw2 the only game. At the end of the day, anet stand to lose more than we do.

Anet only got two choices, fix it or lose the players.

accurately, the HOT is not a completed expansion
it is obvious when it was announced that raid will be delayed during launch, furthermore, the raid does not have all the wings available
it is obvious when the ending story was so buggy
it is obvious when some guild upgrades materials are items that become so rare due to certain changes
it is obvious when scribing did not have the full recipes and still missing some recipes now i think
it is obvious when it was announced that scribing crafting requirements for certain recipes dont make sense and they will correct that
it is obvious when wvw overhaul isnt part of the expansion, citing time constraint as reason

and so on….

HOT is never completed and it will take a long time to be considered “completed”.
so a lot of group contents seems to be sloppy

The skill itself become unbalance at larger scale due to the larger amount of conditions available, adding the capability to do unblockable spread up to 25 stacks worth of conditions to 5 targets, it becomes rather deadly. Though one could argue that conditions can be equally cleansed in a larger zerg, however, it can also be argued that it require coordination to do so since overlapping cleanse is common occurrence. When one compare the cleanse and conditions application, the latter is much more consistent in a larger zerg.

Lame. If people can waste sup repairing wall and gate, it doesn’t stop them from wasting sup to do anything else. Instead of blaming “repairing”, you should try blaming the people instead.

Regardless, repair hammer is a good thing since it is quite unfair that while the attacker has the option to hit siege to low hp, the defender has no option to repair it at the cost of supply. Of course, I hope they do draw a line of difference between repairing and rebuilding. It is also logical that damaged things should be repairable.

Guild hall costs are insane for small guilds

For guilds that play WvW the guild hall is critical to their success in WvW. All of the guild “buffs/enhancements” that WvW guilds had before HoT were reset to zero, nada, square one. The tiers were mixed up, new stuff was added. It’s “one” of the reasons there have been so few people in WvW since HoT release. Guilds are grinding and farming their kittens off trying to regain everything that was reset. The costs are immense and daunting! There has even been a possible oversight of removing an area of the game that contained the ONLY place one certain item (required for guild hall upgrades) dropped.

Just to get back +5 buff requires a lot of work and time which is daunting when we had this and more as a smallish WvW guild before the expansion. Due to the structure of the upgrades we have to build things we really wouldn’t want otherwise, such as a tavern, just to get what we need.
While I love the concept of the tavern attracting NPCs for other upgrades the lack of flexibility for guilds to focus on what they want to do first and in what order is disappointing.

The guild I am in has done a great job so far working towards getting back our WvW buffs and the ability to claim structures again. We’ve pulled together as a team to try and get some of our WvW functionality again (which is awesome!) but it feels like WvW players are no longer being nudged to spend time in PvE, we’re being forced to do PvE if we want these WvW based guild benefits again (which is not at all awesome).

My disappointment and frustration isn’t about the fact that guild halls are clearly a long term investment and goal. It is about, once again, a rather obvious disconnect with and disregard for those players who prefer the WvW end game. Such oversights as the heavy supply bags and WvW daily options that use the removed alpine borderland map are just the most recent examples.

Ermm….. Thus, there should be WvW obtainable-only items, for fairness sake. WvW players are capable of playing PvE but not the other way round.

Server lining vs merging! Major issue!

The problem with a straight Server Merging is that we keep all the current weaknesses of the Server structure. Especially the wonderful Server Stacking issue, that has caused NA a lot of problems. That alone is a good enough reason for me to prefer Server Linking, but it certainly needs some tweaking.

The primary cause of the server stacking was due to anet lack of concern for population control for the first 3 years. After megaserver, server status continue to include PvE population, until close to 2 years later. There’s also the infamous “black out” method prior the server status algorithms change. Not to forget the experimental method like free transfer to the lowest 3 servers in that division (gold, silver, bronze) during the WvW season. There wasn’t any population control existed and if you let it go on for close to 3 years like that, you get servers that is excessively stacked while having servers that are like ghost towns.

Moving on, the numerous servers also contribute to related population issue which is inflow of players. There are a lot of servers, there isn’t enough inflow of players to all servers, this will then too contribute to population issue.

Server merging will literally reduce the number of servers overall, improve the rate of growth per server due to concentrated inflow of players. Not only that, with less number of servers, it become much easier to resolve population unbalance issue as you will not have to brainstorm on how to link that and link this while making sure communities or guilds don’t get split apart. They can move on using incentive and locking servers to rebalance servers with server merging. Server linking is actually a complicated thing to do in long run, if you are doing it, you will understand what I mean.

Server linking was chosen as a method not because server merging is inferior but because server linking is more acceptable to the community, mainly due to the silly server identity mentality. Dev too have the thoughts of deleting all the servers and recreate a X number of servers depending on population but it is highly not acceptable by the community, but logically, it is the best way to redistribute and rebalance every server.

Server merging does have its own problem, for example, once you merge it, you cannot unmerge it if there is a sudden spike in population. However, it is unfortunate, wvw and gw2 as it is now, there isn’t really enough population to spread across 24 servers.

New Worlds

We could achieve more balanced competition in a world-versus-world setting if we had more pieces to join together with the World Linking System. It currently is not possible for us to establish an “equal” number of players on each link/world with the current world sizes. You may recall this initially was mentioned by Tyler a few months ago.

For example, world populations currently look something like this:
• World 1: 95%
• World 2: 82%
• World 3: 81%
• World 4: 60%
• World 5: 30%
• World 6: 10%

Since our final world total needs to be divisible by 3 because we need a team for each color—Red, Blue, and Green—we either need to avoid linking any of the worlds, or link some worlds even if the result is that they have the advantage of a larger population.

• Worlds 1+6: 105%
• Worlds 2+5: 112%
• Worlds 3+4: 141%

After linking, the difference in population between the highest and lowest teams is much narrower, but the third rank server still has significantly more population than the server that previously was ranked first. Also, the result of this theoretical world linking is that all worlds are now above our goal population cap, and probably have moderate to heavy queues.

If we instead had twice as many worlds, but if each had about half the population, it would be much easier to create linked teams with similar populations. This would lead to better matchups for everyone, and encounters would be less predictable. In this scenario, we would allow players free transfers to the new empty worlds for a period of time. These worlds would start out linked so that they wouldn’t begin in an empty state in a match-up. We would lower the player population cap on all worlds so that more worlds would become and stay “Full.” The result would be that guilds that want to expand would have an excellent option to do so with a move to these new open worlds.

Having outlined some of the thinking behind this proposal, we’d like your feedback on these three topics.
1. How do you feel about this proposal?
2. What, if anything, would you change about this current proposal?
3. Would you be interested in transferring to a new free world?

Hi, the problem with this suggestion is how are the inflow of players gonna be? Guilds need people to strive and if no people, they can’t strive. Newbies will hardly choose those “empty” server, they will often choose the higher populated server. In such a case, guilds will not prosper, your proposal will fail in long run. Unless there is a way to get newbies to choose the empty server or allow newbies to choose a server at later time, small to medium sized guilds will not choose to go to that empty server. Likewise, big guilds will unlikely to go there since they might have established a sphere of influence in their servers, able to recruit or invested much in attracting players.

Also, this proposal is asking for volunteers to give up something to go to a risky environment with unknown futures. Not many will be willing to do so, especially if guilds want to stay competitive, able to recruit surely. Better option will be just blow it all up for equal start.

To add on, even if you lower the overall cap, closing up servers and therefore increasing the servers status. The inflow numbers will always be limited and it will still be shared across the numerous servers. Then, it will also eventually reach a timeline where all servers eventually be opened due to decline populations, the incoming players will be spread to a wider range of servers then.

A solution that can work for long term, flexibility to handle the increase and decrease of population is more preferred.

There is also the cultural thing. Depending on which regions, which country your members are based, their mentality can be vastly different and thus the way they treat guild will also be different. Then you need to determine the necessary rules and expectations to make things work for that members base.

You need to determine what works and not base on what other said because some ignorance people might say this is bad or that is bad in practice but in reality, it might be what you really need for your guild to move on. To give a analogy, what may work in america, may not work in china and likewise the other way round.

There are trials and error involved, I can tell you that all successful large guilds today had encounter at least one drama and drama is a good learning lesson on what you need to do to maintain a stable environment.

WvW system is messed up right from the start anyway. There are minorities that noticed it and raised concerns about it but pretty much fall on deaf ears. The current WvW system has always been showing its limitation and thus is just a matter of time for any issues to surface.

The overhaul regardless of what it was, is necessary as long it literally change how the system works. However, I assume the fear of backlash has kept anet from doing the overhaul and being a regular on this forums, I can assure you that there are a lot of wvwers that are against many things regardless if it is for the greater good.

It is really pointless.. Nothing gonna change as long the wvw community fear changes and anet afraid of possible risk of upsetting the community.

Quartz Crystal Node (Supply Shortage)

The home node can give 5 regular on one strike and it sometimes gives a charged quartz as well.

One strike, you mean hitting it 3 times? Maybe I shouldn’t use the word strike, ermm…

And yea, it sometimes give a charge quartz but that will not ease the demand for quartz crystal. The crystal will continue to climb in price because there is a lot of demands for it. Not just guild hall, you need it for celestial as well but of course, Guild Hall is the primary demand now and since is Guild Hall we are talking about here, it will need a lot of charge quartz.

Now charge quartz worth about 2.5g, won’t be surprise to see it worth 10g eventually.

I mean hitting it once so you could get up to the equivalent of 33 quartz in a day from the home instance.

You can also get quartz as part of the map bonus system. For this week that is Timberline Falls.

I mine it everyday from my instance, I don’t remember seeing that much, I don’t ever get surplus. Are you mining with full boost or something?

Blobs nowadays are like two guilds + pugs. God i miss EotM. Totally randoms zergs. No TS or other cheats, no lame meta builds and fun map mechanics. EotM were place where individual player skill did shine.

Yea I can agree with this. The biggest balance issue I see in WvW is the servers that run guild groups vs. the servers that don’t. 90% of the time you won’t stand a chance anymore because the meta is way too effective in an organized group for most random groups to counter.

Nonsense. Most pugs don’t use meta or any builds that make sense, they use random put together gears and traits which have little to no use in wvw perspective thus got owned.

Remove WvW Linking - Give Us Back Our Servers

Right now even small servers are being populated due to pip system. Remove the link should be fine. at least for a year.

Remove link, and free pass for transfer pip penalty for a month. This should help spreading population amongst server.

Yes, we can open free transfer, that’s what I used to suggest back then. But now, thinking about it, I don’t think it makes a real difference in long term because…

1. Not enough populations to go to all existing servers
2. Due to overall low population, they will have to lower the max cap further to keep servers equal
3. Due to lower cap, it also force servers to adapt very specific geodemographic otherwise servers will die to attrition due to max cap
4. Geodemographic is not that easily to obtain due to human nature, human want to stack at least 2 guilds per timezone and likewise not enough guilds to spread to all the servers for some timezones
5. The fundamental not-equal server pve population resulting in potential population gain due to events or holidays or random players mood is still not solved

so is still better to delete all servers and create just enough servers while having a complete new system that designed to tackle balancing that is sustainable

I didn’t mean free transfer. I mean some period of time for transfer and still get pip after transfer. If unlink really happen, This should help small server to have a chance to recruit population or even buy some guild.

For now, Some ppl choose to stick around because of pip penalty after transfer

Then is worse. Human nature is they are more likely to move if is free because people like free things. Furthermore, since you are unlinking and the fact that we don’t have enough to spread across all servers, also accompanied by the geodemographic issue, the chance is unlinking will result in a non-sustainable future is extremely high.

but if u consider the long term benefits of the engine will bring…it is worthy investment

the new stuffs apparently moving towards more cpu intensive gameplay like more units, shiny fancy bling bling stuffs, the hot map being multi layered so the likelyhood of new living story map being too and so on……

the optimised engine will simply give everyone a better game performance which result in better game experience and thus better game play. this also means that anet has lesser limitation on the type of contents and bling bling caused by performance issue

is a win-win situation for both the players and the developers

unfortunately, throughout the years, anet does give a impression that they give little cares in term of long term goals.

Unfortunately, I disagree. After reading the part about “Guild Wars 2 is a video game”, it has become obvious to me that TS does not understand that video games have a lot of genres.

Guild Wars 2 belong to the MMORPG genre and all MMORPG are known to have grind contents so when you or anyone decided to play MMORPG, they should have be prepared to grind for things one way or another. People can complain about certain items are overpriced while using existing items as guidelines but to complain about grind itself in a MMORPG is stupid. No people in the position capable of making changes will bother to respond if the complain is about grind.

Honestly, if people complain in a more reasonable and logical manner, it will be more well-received. Take for example if people phrase it this way, 10,000 drinks are a little too much given that wintersday will end in (2 or 4 weeks time) as compare to legendary which you can take your time to grind for while legendary have substantial use for it but winter’s presence is just a skin yet cost way more efforts (due to limited time frame) than legendary, thus the item is obviously overpriced.

As for people who for some reasons not able to complete JPs, be it medical or simply bad at JPs. They can always ask their friends to play their account to complete for them. Yes, it is against the TOS and if anet do ban people for helping others then it is better to just find a new game, you can point a middle finger at anet while doing so.

No what it is, is just one more example of how a game where cheese has always passed for “skill” to an extent has became even more cheesy and even more skilless with the HoT powercreep.

So, whenever a organised group come up with a way to synergy with one another, you gonna complain about it? Like how anet decide is a great idea to nerf stability, destroying all the frontlines?

i will say it once again, the rune is fine as it is like all others have mentioned.

It’s broken as hell, it got removed from PvP for being OP because of the stat values + boon% was too much, in WvW what was a little extra in PvP – the resistance, just becomes another broken aspect of the rune, don’t worry though I am pretty sure Anet are aware at this stage WvW is 99% baddies, so they will continue catering to what is left of their core audience.

Don’t see how the resistance is broken when it simply give 1s every 20s. Like I have said and you yourself said, the reason why it was removed from pvp was due to the stats being mathematically higher than average runes, nothing to do with resistance, protection and regeneration. But, I guess the 1s resistance is just too much for you to handle?

Justine.6351 knows what he talking about but too bad, majority of you are blaming runes of durability for resistance duration when that duration is pretty insignificant for the most part, not unless you have the correct classes using the necessary unities to bring out the maximum potential of it.

Maybe you should consider the ideas given in the feedback than asking the same idea twice. Asking the same idea twice in such a short duration is already giving the impression that devs are reluctant to accept other ideas other than their own preferred ones.

Quartz Crystal Node (Supply Shortage)

You don’t seem to get the whole picture, so I will explain in a simpler manner.

  • In HOT, we now have this thing called “Guild Hall”.
  • Part of “Guild Hall” upgrade requires “Charge Quartz”, and quite a number of them.
  • “Charge Quartz” require 25 “Quartz Crystal” and timegate to once per day.
  • In the entire Gw2, there are only 4 nodes, 5 if you have one in your home instance.
  • Each strike to each node you get at least one and at most 2 but is rare occasion to get 2.
  • Among the 4 nodes, there is one rich nodes which you can strike 6 times but that node can only be access after doing a event that occur during sandstorm. Access to that node will only open for 10 minutes after the event.
  • So, mathematically, you get at least 15 crystals but usually around 16 crystals. If include the home node, that will be around 20, Still, it will be 5 short.
  • What do people do to make up for that 5 short, they buy.
  • However, realistically, most people wouldn’t even mine the 4 nodes not say patiently wait for the rich node. So, obviously, people will buy more

Only, there are pockets of OCX and SEA players who are not on those servers and already made the choice not to stack into T1 in the first place.

I’ve heard the rumors of these fabled OCX/SEA guilds in low tiers but honestly haven’t seen at all outside of LAG on IoJ. Unfortunately the low tiers were always dead in OCX and I highly doubt there’s some magical population that decided not to move up tiers.

Gonna be blunt too, what these ‘pockets’ of OCX/SEA are doing is not WvW. They are literally ‘nightcapping’ since they run into nothing on the maps most of the time. If anything they should be merged upwards so that they don’t get free caps with no resistance.

I apologize for my guild night capping (even though we had known records of fighting against DB blobs). I would love to accept your offer to move upwards if you can cover the transfer cost of my entire guild, just my guild alone would be around 230k golds. I am sure it cost more than millions of golds once you include other guilds and random pugs. I will thank you on the behalf of the lower tiers servers for resolving the night capping (even though it was caused by the T1 bandwagoners) and behalf of all night capping guilds for finding a place where they can finally strive to become skill guilds.

Why Rep Guilds in 2016?

To me, repping a guild is a matter of honor. If I’m going to take the time to join a guild and find out about them, and they about me; if I’m going to invest my game time, gold, and mats with this guild, and they’re investing their time helping me, then I want to be proud to represent them.

It’s nice that guilds don’t have to require 100% repping anymore, and it gives their members a lot more freedom. But, as a guild leader, I’m watching to see what my guild members do, or don’t do, when thinking about to whom i should offer promotions. Just as I would rep my guild in order to show my pride in, and loyalty to, them, I would hope to see the same from my guild members.

I think it would be difficult to develop a tight-knit group if everyone is always off doing his or her own thing, with no thought to loyalty to those who ‘have your back’ so to speak.

I dunno, maybe I’m old fashioned in that regard.

Gw2 is heavily casual, loyalty or more accurately, camaraderie do not exist in many. It is a sad thing for gw2. Many people simply hop from one guild to another, just to pass time, achieve their personal goals and that’s it.
