WTF, liberal ideology. I’m liberal and that’s not my ideology. :|

Re: no reason to be in level 80 areas: They did bork Orr (the zone was not even complete at launch), but FGS arguably is one and people are there, too.

Right now a lot of us have completed a big chunk of the game’s content and are waiting for more substantial stuff to be released (since this is still a vanilla release with only one year’s stuff). So training allows 80s to still work toward grindy goals. It also lets lower levels earn monies, XP, karma, gear and mats to put toward gearing and crafting.

I like the comment about letting newbies and max-level characters both work toward the same goal. That WAS one of ANet’s original goals in world design, and hopefully they’ve noticed.

There are three big reasons, btw, why level 80s still go to Queensdale instead of FGS: 1) Most QD champs are tied to events, which count for dailies/monthlies; 2) this also counts for karma. 3) Also, it’s more forgiving than FGS, which loads much slower because of the snow and water. So people on slower machines can’t load fast enough to kill the champs, which die much faster anyway because they are not event champs.

Congratulations, you just described mostly every PUG experience in most MMOs since the dawn of time. Now if only there was a thing where you gathered a group of people together, whom with you could play on a regular basis, where everyone knew each other and appreciated what others were doing. We could call them something like… guilds!

I have severe and life-threatening health problems that a) make regular drama not something I like, and it’s unavoidable in guilds, and b) those health problems make it difficult for me to be reliable for regular dungeon runs, which was the case when I was in guilds.

GUILDS GUILDS GUILDS is not the answer for a lot of people. I like MMOs, I like doing things in groups, but my health issues force me to pug or go without, because people like to SAY they are understanding (and may mean it at the time) but they usually are not.

And honestly every time I was in high-end or even mid-range guilds, there was always that jerk (or a few) who can’t get out of the fire and then rages out for some reason or another.

Any guilds I’m in, it is on a casual basis and I usually just rep my own.

Is it only GW1 players that find GW2 boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sylv.5324

Sylv.5324

Most people in GW1 ran whatever meta of the week build was available, there wasn’t a lot of variation and you got punished if you ran variations.

I ran an elemonk/elerit healer build that was very good for a lot of things, but got passed over for monks and refused places in groups— even though those builds were designed for hard modes where eles could pump out much more heals, and much bigger ones, due to having such huge energy pools.

Didn’t matter that I’d played monk and rit for years; no one would take the ele. Nonstandard build.

I had a necro with a homemade SS build, indestructible if anything nearby died or their health dropped below 50, pve, pvp, etc. Same thing— not the cookie cutter build, no go.

ANet noticed this kind of thing, too— in theory you could make any build you wanted, but a disproportionate amount of players only used specific builds and refused to play with anyone who did not. So making all of those various skills ended up being a waste of time, money, and balancing.

If you buy a vanilla game, blast through all the content, and then say you will quit instead of waiting for free and paid expansions, I dunno why you bought an MMO. That’s just treating it like a single-player game.

If that’s how folks plan to play, then buy the game at least a year after release so there’s more stuff to get through before the next one hits.

Y’all people make no sense to me.

Also, at 1600 hours or so, I’m not a casual player.

Temporary lift of the population caps?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sylv.5324

Sylv.5324

Because of the unanticipated restrictions on server guesting, specifically the region locking, would it be possible to temporarily raise the caps on server populations?

The RP community, which is about 5-6k strong as of the last self-census (but is much higher given how many new ones I see every day and how there are more high-pop sites than 2RP), initially split along NA/EU lines because we, as of the information we had at the time, thought that we could guest to each others’ worlds.

Because that is not going to happen, many of us (though I can’t speak for all, of course) would like to consolidate our communities. Tight server caps make that very difficult.

However, while my motivation is a roleplayer’s wanting to see the community come together, I’m not asking for some special roleplayer exception: I figure that the guesting setup will cause issues for cross-server guilds or NA/EU friends who’ve been waiting for months to get to play together before the new guesting system’s revisions were announced.

Thanks for your time. <3

Chat channels for each guild we're in.

in Suggestions

Sylv.5324

Please allow us to have multiple guild chat channels? Multi-guilding is a great feature, but allowing us to chat in different guild chat channels (as long as we’re on the roster) would help, IMO, keep solidarity between members even when we aren’t repping.

For example, I am in a few roleplay guilds, as well as a WvW one, and so on, because none of them really overlap. But this means that my ability to still hang out in chat with my roleplay friends whilst, say, running between sieges, is not an option.

Thank you!

Ah, the old, ‘because I don’t like this game, everyone else must be casuals/bads/etc’ thing. Along with, ‘I play it even though I don’t enjoy it’ which makes no sense at all. You should play a game for what it is, not what you wish it would be, because you will never get everything you want out of one game. Not even the designers get everything they want out of their own game.

To answer all the "why GW2 feel grindy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sylv.5324

Sylv.5324

Grinding is not what ANET makes you do. Grinding was what AION made you do. If you wanted to hit level 40-50, you spent weeks killing the same mobs over and over again, because there were only enough quests at each level to grant one bubble on your bar, and the xp curve was extremely steep. If you wanted pvp gear, that was up to a month or two of repeating the same faction-locked instance per piece. If you wanted pve gear, you ran the same dungeon sometimes hundreds of times per piece.

If you needed to upgrade, you had to do the same. If you crafted, your odds of failing the proc to get the correct stat combo was higher than the success. (I played for two years and never saw my class weapons drop, and could not get the crafted account bound ones I needed to proc.)

This cost me so much time and gold that I can’t count the millions of gold it took to -fail-. I was farming and grinding 20 hours a day (I was homebound from illness), every single day, and I still could not advance my character to max because his gear and enchantmen’s were stuck at ten levels below cap.

if you understand what I’m trying to say, then you will understand that grindng means the required repetition of mindless crap to advance. You don’t. The leveling curve is easy. Exotic gear is easy. Skins are optional. PVP requires no special gear. What you are complaining about is that the content is not what you like, and so you made a really common mistake: you bought a game in the hopes that it would be something like WoW with nicer graphics instead of just buying WoW. You also bought a vanilla release, burned through content, and are now bored. Why? Buy a game with no expansions and take your time.

Total disappointment over this update

They gated that quartz node behind an expansion built around jumping. That’s my main complaint.

I managed 40/40 btw, but man does my head hurt. Re: folks saying I shouldn’t play the game: don’t be silly. I can handle most content fine except some dungeons and fractals as I’ve learned techniques to adapt. Jumping is just the worst, because some of them require absolute precision and positioning.

My criticism isn’t, ’don’t do jumping’, my criticism is, ‘I wish you hadn’t gated so much of it behind jumping’. If the response is, ’don’t play the game!’ to ‘I wish they’d shown more variety because my disability makes this particularly frustrating’ then, yes, folks are being silly, and I appreciate the kind words. I’m pretty sure my feedback is just as valid as anyone else’s.

(Particularly considering my willingness to spend in the Cash Shop on upgrades.)

’They’d cause problems in jumping puzzles!’ So disable them on puzzles.

’They’d make the world smaller!’ So make them ground only, and limit their speed. The broom feels fast enough with no increase.

’They’re what’s different from…’ I think this is silly.

‘I like seeing my character run everywhere!’ So keep running. If there’s no speed difference, there’s no reason why you can’t stay on foot.

It looked very bad on my male sylvari main (waist cuts weird, sleeves much too short), so I got a refund. It looks nice on female characters, but that’s been a consistent gripe of mine since launch: most scholar armor seems to be designed by folks who only find women attractive, so they have no idea how to design armor for males.

A start would be to stop chopping the armor at the waist, as it makes a lot of sets look like cheaply-articulated action figures (especially male sylvari). It’s not necessary, as most heavy and medium sets don’t do this, and neither did most GW1 armor.

Also- consider a dungeon path or two. The upgraded rewards for daily runs make it pretty profitable to run a few quick paths once per day. Unfortunately, a lot of people are being drawn to invasion farming instead..

I am ill and my roomie is my and my quad sweetie’s aide. Being able to block out a few hours of nonstop playing, without breaks, is very difficult. With open world farming, I can drop out for ten, fifteen, rest my head, puke, whatever, then jump back in no problem. That’s not really doable in a dungeon run.

(That’s not to say I haven’t run some, but people need to be very understanding and doing that daily would deffo grate on people. Obviously this is not everyone’s issue, but people have their own reasons for blowing off dungeons.)

I have heard of a few bans that have happened, an d whom they may be targeting, mainly profain people who may be doing inappropriate things or doing something they consider offensive.

If they are erping in public, they are violating the ToS, and many roleplayers will report other roleplayers they see doing this.

Keep these things private if you must do it at all, and be good neighbors to your teen-rated game’s community!

Regarding language— unless the policy has changed, foul language by itself is not a reason to get banned. For example, graphic sex is worth a ban, but dropping an f-bomb that is not meant in a derogatory manner toward someone is not.

I feel that this little change made many people realise, how awful “gw1 vets” are. All these posts about, how much stuff you should get, because you played different game… it’s just stupid.

I’m sick of your attitude, so called “gw1 vets”. From whole thread it looks like you’re a better race, because you played another game before. [sic!]

It’s not about being better.

It’s that ANet does not consider the games to be separate the way you do. We were given these points because we invested heavily in the game that GW2 was supposed to be, but had to be moved to a different engine because of limitations.

You may not like the fact that we spent all that time on a franchise that you did not bother to get involved in, but that is not our fault. ANet wanted to make sure its loyal and dedicated longtime fanbase did not get shafted when ANet unexpectedly stopped developing GW1 in favor of GW2, and they always intended for 2 to in some way compensate us for what we were forced to leave behind.

I’m glad that ANet continues to honor that, even if people like you feel threatened by us. Their intent was pretty much to lift us out of GW1 and drop us into GW2 as painlessly as possible.

Just try bringing a character in greens to WvWvW and see how long you can survive without exotics and ascended.

You can survive very well in yellows, which are also extremely cheap.

And you survive much much better in exotics. Your point?

I do fine in yellows in WvW in small fights (I did upgrade my trinkets to ascended finally and I have exotic weapons). In zergs, the stat difference is pretty irrelevant. It’s not a dealbreaker to start out in WvW in yellows or exotics, neither of which are prohibitively expensive, whilst saving laurels and whatnot for ascended trinkets.

You folks are -really- overblowing the difference in WvW (greens, really?). I kinda think you guys don’t WvW very much.

I see mentions of fruits and nuts. This is a new category of material that I’ve been pondering and haven’t quite settled with it. While the visual idea is lovely, I’ve always pictured the sylvari to be the fruits of the Pale Tree. For fruits to have fruits of their own… not sure that works just yet. It may be a matter of weighing anatomy righteousness against the fashion notion that most people won’t care and just want the cool factor. Hehehe, oh you guys! One day you’re in, the next day you’re out, eh?

If it helps, some of the armors seem to incorporate fruit: the little gourd things on one of the medium sets, along with the berries on the gloves of t3. So maybe it would be less of a structure that they’re born with, and more a way of mimicking things they find pretty in other plants.

now i understand why Piken Square began to suck in WWW ….

If that’s an insult to roleplayers, you’re wrong: most roleplayers on the unofficial roleplay servers formed WvW alliances and were active earlier on, as roleplayers in this game like to play the rest of the game, too. It’s why TC has done so well, roleplayers were the first to organise a coherent WvW defense, and then other guilds saw that and followed.

Anyway, some kind of district system would be nice. I’d love a ‘roleplayers’ one. And no, it’s not to avoid people who break immersion, it’s to allow casual walk-up roleplay for people who want that on the same server. Having everyone scattered makes it impossible for random people who want to roleplay to easily meet. ‘Join a guild’ doesn’t always cut it.
