UGH.

I’d prefer if they’d just ninja revealed it later, with no warning, but an aleady established launch date and a price tag slabbed on it’s front.

3. Con artists (mesmers).
4. Serial arsonists (eles + guards)

New player - How do I make this "fun"?

This post is one of the best proofs that NPE sucks and shouldn’t have happened. The dancing for cows especially. Earlier it was picking up the feed and feeding them. Normal, logical and not making new players feel like jesters for livestock. Not to mention massages for dried out corn crops (earlier it was picking up bucket of water and watering them). Next time i’ll see a man dying out of thirst, i’ll give him a backrub, that will get him alive and kicking!

Horrendous New Player Evisce..erm Experience aside, the game is great and Angry Joe was not bullkittenting. You must understand you’re in a different world from normal MMO and rules you know don’t apply. Here what matters is customization. Both your build (skills, traits, gear stats) and your looks are deeply customizable and they matter. You will experience that later on, as at beginning game is very forgiving and you have but few barebones skills making it feel stupid and dumbed down. But go forth, discover places on your own, do personal story, craft stuff, complete maps, and unlock your skills and traits. As you progress you will see true greatness that is this game.

And along with most of us erect a middle finger aimed at “New Player Experience” that made you believe such great game sucks. Because in earlier days it was awesome from the start (traits at lvl 11, weapons unlocking with number of kills not levels, no dancing for cows etc.) Take notes and undo damage A-net!

'13-'14 Decap Engi vs '14-'15 Turret Engi

in PvP

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

The AI of turrets does not do more damage then player himself unless player went full on defense and is using pistol with power amulet.

The point is that turrets act independantly, and rocket turret which is biggest damage disher is often planted away from engi. So while you can and often will successfuly mitigate engi’s own attacks, the turrets will land theirs, and thus the conviction that turrets do more damage then engi.

But as i play turret hybrid engi (not full tureteer) i can tell you it’s nothing funny when your turrets go on 50s cooldown when you die. Also mobility is an issue, because much of your support is stationary, so gotta think twice about moving away from your spot. Every stick has two ends.

Why the turreteer is overpowered currently.

Wish gw2 had a PET class...

in Ranger

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

But it doesn’t. Instead we got “animal” class – the ranger.
So what’s this about pet vs animal? It’s the feelz man, it’s the feelz.

Recent days i moved over to Blade & Soul and am playing summoner. And kitten , that’s a pet class if I ever seen one. He may have only one cat, but you care about the cat. The way his skills are performed (adorable and balls to the wall cat themed), the skill icons, the emotes, the sounds, even his looks customization – everything it does and you do makes you care about that adorable furball and love using him and his skills.

In gw2? Well you go to nearby pond, “charm” (read whack with a mace on it’s head) nearby scaled monstrosity that even it’s own broodmother wouldn’t love and call that a pet. Rinse and reapeat for most of them. I don’t feel like i have a pet, i just feel like part of my dps grew 4 legs, got some fleas onboard and whoopee-dee-doo, you got a partner for life. Which sorta sounds like most rl marriages save the 4 legged part anyway…

At any rate i’d love to see in gw2 future the moment when i’ll yell “NOOO! My hawk/cat/hound/whatever!” and not “Noooo! My dps!”

[Suggestion] Revealed when blocked, missed

in PvP

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

Well regarding the ‘miss’ part of my suggestion. When i mean “miss” i don’t mean being out of range of their attack. I’m talking about situation when their attack would hit, but something you or someone else did prevented that from happening.

When you get on screen message like “evaded”, “miss”, “invulnerable” (mesmer’s 4th shatter) that means you just dodged an attack and it’s no longer a secret someone’s on your tail.

And since that dodge didn’t pop out from thin air, but by using a skill with a cost attached (be it cooldown, endurance, initiative or w/e) it’s only fair that there is a reward for it in form of decloaked attacker (be it thief or anyone else who was stealthed).

That’s still way more lenient then warrior bursts mind you. If i use a burst on my warrior and there was no enemy in range i don’t get to keep my adrenaline.

In fact i believe the best change would be either to pin a high initiative cost on stealth skills, or have them forcibly decloak you when used, regardless of hitting/missing the target.

That would actually enforce some skilled use of it, rather then just happily running a mile behind target, spamming #1 all day long untill it finally hits, regardless of target’s blocking, evading or good positioning.

ZeftheWicked.3076

Something turning things upside down gives one a whole new perspective. While chilling and reading HoT reactions i noticed just how entitled the ones accusing others of entitlement are.

Many a comment about HoT from it’s defenders were about how we had 3 years of great gameplay and free updates and now we complain about 50$.

Now that’s entitlement. Even if we had 15 years worth of free playtime, that doesn’t mean jack smack kitten to the deal that is the x-pac. A-net doesn’t owe vets anything, true. But they also don’t owe anything to a-net. HoT standard edition costs 50$ and that’s a fact.

That’s the price for expansion. Not “overly long free time fee”, “over the top LS season 1 & 2 costs” or some such. It’s the price for xpac. And therefore it’s the xpac’s size and content that’s being subject of justified scrutiny and no melodramatic “u.o.us” are gonna work. If the xpac is not worth 50$ in players’ eyes they’re not gonna buy it nor are they obliged to.

You can be an awesome baker and make amazing cakes. But just because i ate 50 times at your place already, doesn’t mean i’ll pay full cake’s price for few brownies on my plate which you advertise as “house’s new special”.

Don’t forget to nerf Druid, their staff 1 goes thru blocks, the 10 second cooldown on that daze >> vine immobilize is too short, they lose all condi and gains stealth every 6 seconds while in combat. You guys think DH is op, Druid makes DH look like it needs a buff.

Yeah, yeah, sure. Except daze and all conci clear every 10s (not 6) are in same line in same tier. So it’s daze or condi cleanse.
Stealth prevents point capture so druid that stealths every 6s is gonna lose that point real fast, while guard can hold it all the time.

Staff #1 goes through projectiles reflects and absorpion fields, though it’s true, it’s very strong vs guards since it ignores these and strips aegis stacks real fast. Against guards it’s a very solid weapon that is true. It sadly lacks anything else like longbow’s cc or shortbow’s condi ability.

Did HoT ruin GW2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

HoT per se is quite good, i love the new jungle maps and verticality, it’s a very good add-on.

Damage done to the game “by HoT” is actually in 3 areas non-gameplay related:

1. abysmal rate of new content releases/balance patches. Raid wings alone do not a new content make for non-raiders.
2. abysmal expansion size for ridicilous official price. If HoT is “a foundation” and that’s one time case only, ok. But many will be very wary before the next xpac, wanting to first be sure it’s “content rich” not “something else (PR jibba-jabba) rich”.
3. broken trust – remember the war over free xpac slot? Or the bait and switch with needing core game to play xpac, then players getting mass refunds after justly raising a kittenstorm? Before when you heard a-net you just opened your wallet, you knew awesome deal with no tricks is coming your way. Now many people will be wary and weigh their options before opening their wallets.

So i don’t blame the xpac itself – it’s great. I blame their development/balance patch speed, sales tricks, and low content to price ratio.

Dungeon grouping - the real solution.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

Problems:
1. Two buddies/guildies/jerks kick others “because”.
2. Dungeon owner rage quits, all goes to pot.
3. Party remainds more of an airport – ppl fly in and out before you know it.

Solution
1.Rather then paying out the dungeon reward at end, split it among dungeon chests that appear after you’ve beaten certain dungeon bosses.

Each such chest is subject to “daily clear” detrimental rewards system – full reward on first loot, much smaller for next, untill next day.

2. Majority vote on kicking.
3. Ownerless dungeons, which you’re already implementing. But only when first two fixes are present!

Result
You get rewarded as you progress, if you get booted at 60% of dungeon completion, you already have at least 40% of rewards in your pocket if not full 60% (getting to chest before they kick you). Kicking lfg members before end boss to sneak guildies in won’t ring anyone’s bell, with measely 20% reward from this scam.

Ragequit leaders won’t crush the dungeon, “airport” parties will not see their final members get full reward, while all the previous got near zilch.

You can thank me later :>

Guild halls – will we be able to customize their looks to our liking (Like Wildstar’s housing) or do we all get same old hall, just of different size depending on our guild’s funding?

Specializations – we know jack smack you-know what about them. Just how much new do they bring? Is it just one single new weapon for each one? Do they use same weapons as base professsion asides that one new weapon? And if so are their weapon skills the same as base profession’s in that case? How many new skills and traits are they getting compared to base profession?

Dungeons – will we see new ones, and will old ones be given some attention, especially A.I. wise?

“challenging conent” be mostly open world, instanced, or plenty for both cases?

And finally, how far is their current progress with HoT more or less? Are we looking at something that’s half done, 80% done, not even halfway yet?

Zef’s weapon revamp suggestion – the Sword

Goal of this change
Increasing sword’s responsivness and reaction speed[/b]

1. Auto attack - No more rooting with each blow, preventing dodges from being used.

.2 hornet sting/monarch’s leap - Faster sting execution.
Evasion skills are immediate response tools, they can’t be sloggish before evasion kicks in.

3. Serpent’s strike - Added 3 stacks of torment (8s).

This forum mod and I both know i have much shorter and descriptive term for the issue at hand, but if my topic is to survive i have to be more descriptive.

I like customizability of my build, and “playing my way”. But the “specializations” go the Titanic route of “we know better then you!”.

Result?

I. can’t go into more then 3 lines, even for one measely adept trait.
II. can’t choose a traitline only partially, because grandmaster traits are of no use to my build.
III. can’t select lower tier traits in higher one’s slot – again killing my choice and diveristy. (yes i have a build that runs on 3 adept tiers from one line and does just fine).

I get this whole condensing traits and making them less but more viable, but that doesn’t change the fact, that our build options are getting severely butchered, and we’re supposed to be happy about it. Well, i’m not.

Ah then that is room for discussion. I believe that indeed defense stats need reworking, especially given the game’s action nature and fact that in some cases 5k hp more is 1 sec longer life ..

I believe thoughness should have stronger effect on defense stat. Weak heal but tough? Then you’ll take litte damage and still have way better survival then zerks.

Vitality is tricky as it does not amp up heals like healing power or toughness that reduces damage heals gotta deal with. In this scenario it’s more like vitality just delays the inevitable. But it’s still better being heavily wounded with more of it, then dead with less. Perhabs it should hamper conditions somewhat or give off a small passive hp regen. That however would apply only to vitality above the default 916 that each character possesses.

Yesturday when my durmand priory member guardian stopped over at hoelbrak’s vigil station it didn’t go unnoticed by the vigil’s recruiter who mocked me for being a scholar and i mocked hem back promising to misspell her name in history books.

Someone accuallly cared to have the npc notice which order i’m part of and insult me based on that. LOVING IT:)

Now what i want is more of this and with a twist. Today i went to do questing in lvl 15-25 or so map for asura, and i find durmand priory camp stationed on the south-west part of it. Now instead of greeting me as fellow researcher they just give me the usual lines that probably all other players get.

It would be awesome if i would get warm welcome or some minor insults based on which order i’m in, accually going as far as rewealing unique, hidden part of GW2 lore if i’m member of their own order, while giving only barebones information about the quest to rest of players.

That would greatly add to immertion and feeling of unity and purpose with your chosen orders. So if possible make sure there’s more order based talk from members of vigil, durmand and whispers:)

lol, lifesteal is worthless. As if lifestealing 200 hp every few attacks is gonna save you in a zerg or against PvE mobs that hit you for 8k+ damage.

Trait spite + reaper blighter’s boon, and it’s 200hp every attack, and around 600 every second once it’s hp goes below 50%. If you don’t play like Gohan and learn to doooooodge! then by the time your life force plums down to 0 you’ll have some regular health to work with.

Zef’s Shouts rewamp

Idea behind shout changes
Let’s be honest. Majority of shouts are about controlling your pet behaviour and as such should be profession mechanic free of utility slot skill trappings. Since they’re not, at least proper reliability and additional effects are a must.

Proposed Functionality
“Protect me!” - to existing effects two more are added. Pet is healed for 50% max hp on cast, and it takes only 33% of incoming damage for the duration of the skill.

  • Reason behind this change: This skill is not “let’s kill my pet for not being a bear” button.
With these additions it becomes your pet heal and emergency panic button as well.

“Search and rescue” - 15 sec cooldown. Shout works on deafeted. If you have a downed/defeated ally selected, pet will go to revive that person. Will not activate without fallen ally in range. Revival speed 30% faster then normal.

*Reason: I can have pet do attacking and revive defeated players myself without any fuss. Why should opposite scenario be a mountain climb? Using this shout costs utility slot and a cooldown, thus faster revival speed on it. Since pet sent to revive an ally can be killed and is a major damage loss to the ranger i see no reason to cripple this shout with long cooldown. Infact only reason it has one is to prevent shout triggered effects abuse when sorrounded by corpses.

“Guard” - instant cast not 1s. Pet ignores any enemies on it’s way to designated spot, and only after reaching it engages enemies in protected zone.

*Reason: Else why not just select an enemy and order attack without wasting utility slots?

“Sick’em” - this one works just fine.

The OP’s point is quite valid. Any veteran player that buys and links HoT to his old account should get something.

It’s simple matter of fairness. New players get core game + HoT rolled into one for price of x-pac alone. Old players who do not choose to make new account (taking up server space and other resources), but instead link HoT to their old account, should get something too. Like that extra character slot.

Still at least A-net moved a bit torwards us veterans (and it’s own interest along the way). For me personally now it’s more of an “50$ is ten bucks too much for me”, rather then “I won’t support this sleeze”.

Is guardian as boring as I'm experiencing?

in Guardian

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

As i compare guardian to my necro – guardian’s design fails miserably.

The two are a good comparison because they’re both extreme classes. They’re not jacks of all trades, masters of none. Both are extremely lacking in one area while being supposed masters in another…except the guard is not.

Necro keeps his promise – no one can match his condition manipulation abilities, he even has two sources of additional condi damage if he so chooses – damage from chilling and terror. All the while many of his other aspects also work and synergize well. It is not impossible to have a necro that has reasonable damage along with not too shabby sustain and solid condi cleansing and cc countermesures.

The guard however fails miserably. Not only does it lack something truly unique in terms of team support (no unique boon here, like let’s say mesmer’s alacrity) but is easily matched if not bested by both ele and engi in that departament.

The trait layout and syngergies are horrible, getting decent condi cleanse usuallly means seriously gutting something else like damage mitigation or offense. If that wasn’t enough guard’s sustain is very bad – without constant healing he’ll be feet forward before you know it, so another thing that cannot be passed up in your build no matter what, reducing build diversity.
And then there’s the condi play or rather lack of sides burning…

At the end of the day necro stays unique, with his mastery over conditions unmatched by others, and a solid set of utilities and traits allowing for build diversity without being forced to always pick a specific trait or skill for ensured survival, and only then build on top of that.

As for the guard – just ask yourself what is it that guard can do that engi can’t, only better, with more versatility and without crippling condi play? And those traits..

Even ele’s rebound can’t compare, as it affectes only those taking lethal damage (heavily wounded but not dead are left to their fate) and is a one time use elite, while chrono can distort multiple times before ele gets his rebound back on.

How much druid & chrono kits are overloaded is not funny. Warrior is a different offender as he has less unique things going for him, but he gets awesome damage for the amount of support he still provides.

Bottom line this balance is terrible. 3 are mandatory, 6 are an option. I don’t care about chrono “having to be tank cause it’s dps is horrid”.
I care much more about other 4-5 professions not being able to be tanks, despite having tools for it, because chrono.

Likewise for druid.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Awesome, great we have devs ears on the subject:)
I have 7 things to say on the subject, hopefully it’ll be your lucky 7;)

1. Be brave - i know no one likes flames in their thread, but as a dev you gotta be though like John Rambo. Forums are usually half the unsatisfied people (satisfied ones are ingame!) wanting change be it through discussion or flames. Some shells will be fired, but escaping community contact has been a downfall of many a game. Hopefully not this awesome one:)[/b]

2. Horizontal progression = good I really love that you made ascended the “top tier” less through stats, and more through ulitity (account bound and not soulbound). I also heard legendaries are to have dynamically changeable stats. YEAH! That’s the way to go A-net!:) New builds, trait improvement and skills are the way to go!

3. Fractal wepons Word is they are extremely rare, unless you’re looking for a trident. I’m no fan of RGN loot with 1 in 10000 chances. Time and effort put into running them should be met with sure reward even for the less lucky of us. Adding a fractal weapon box for “number of run fractals achievement” should even the score. Box lets you pick one fractal skin you want, kinda like box with ascended gear.

4. Gear looks Yesturday i spend 5 or so hours on hardcore….mix & matching armors for my necro. Not exactly a role model for posterity, but making my character look unique is a huge part of the game, and there’s room for improvement.

Why can’t i dye my weapon?
Where are all the non-chubby looking swords?
Asian weapons?
Why some legendaries look awesome, while others are a clear joke? I mean sure, i have lotsa sense of humor, but i’d like to have a choice if i want to wield a kitten looking legendary pummeler, or a disco ball, and not be trapped in “you want a legendary mace? Hope you like to boogie!”

Less important but more personal – i could not find one dedent looking light short sleeved chestpiece to match dungeon inquest pants + inquest gloves. The inquest top is bland and makes my character look like “lotsa on bottom, little on top”. Arah one has the right idea – the scarf around sides and back, but the textures are just horrible and in no way match inquest’s orderly, world-explorer design.

Profession tweaks There’s a lot of make or break in there. Good balanced skills & trait set with lotsa tempting options and builds is a huge horizontal progression factor and good reason to stay and play..and experiment!

Nedless to say what the opposite does. Right now you’re in the middle with that. There are professions with interesting skillls, traits and many builds, and there are some that are severely lacking in anything meaningful save one, maybe two options (necros!).

Listen to player feedback, i’ll b glad to help and give you my opinions on what and why, as long as i know there’s a dev ear listening to that. Please remember – you guys get payed for it, we don’t, and it’s no less of a job to make trait/skill/ improvement ideas or invent new ones.

6. gem store Ah the gem store, this is another huge topic to discuss. To sum it up shortly here – just like with traits you’ve made some good and bad.

Good – account bound harvesting tools – excellent idea. Convinient, beutiful, doesn’t break the game balance. And lets us support the game without looking stupid while doing it.

The skins – marjory’s dagger was epic (too bad i didn’t get it)..

Bad – instant retrait item in gem store. That’s P2W starting to rear it’s ugly head. If i can retrait in dungeon, then that gives me advantage over my teammates who can’t.

The prices – aren’t we a bit too expensive NcSoft? I mean it’s simple economy (which i have master’s degree of) that teaches that if something is cheaper more people will buy it (given it’s attractive to them) and the number of purchases will often outweigh the loss in price. Looking at other mmos i recently played i can certainly say your prices are way above the optimal pricing line.

Skins – it’s epic we’re starting to get good skins, but doesn’t that mean that those go into gemstore instead of ingame? And now people who could get new and cool looking customization options are stuck behind a pay-gate?

Time limited stuff – you would have a marjory’s dagger and axe profits on me had you not made it time limited. I just told you about your pricing, right? Well yeah…i couldn’t muster enough on time to get the dreamcleaver axe AND marjory’s skins on time..

7. New professions? Well nothing is more clear horizontal progressions then new profession! Seems gem store took off the need for expansions off your shoulders, but that doesn’t mean we don’t expect you to deliver new BIG content asides current world polishes. Ofc it’s your game your rules and you didn’t start with mmo classic “3 starter classes”, but you know;)

A Compromise for Others Who Don't Want Mounts

What worries me is that this xpac does not require HoT ergo it may not feature gliding.
I never cared much for mounts save maybe moas for asuras.

But in no way can you compare that to HoT glider awesomeness. I hope gliding is a thing in Path of Fire. And by that i mean updrafts and gliding puzzles, not just “you can use them” as in core Tyria maps.

So when the new league season starts?

It’s not like it’s cause i learn about spvp legendary armor the day it closes, but out of pure love for trading lives of my victims for ascended shards of glory i feel like asking the above question.

Not to mention in raids one wipe and pug ragequits, in spvp they die once, and seconds later come back for more! This spvp legendary armor bussiness is win-win!

Two mobility traits in one line?

Obviously i’m referring to banshee’s veil (which is for all means and purposes near 100% swiftness uptime for warhorn users) and quickening thirst.

This should not be, one of these and i obviously mean banshee’s veil should be moved elsewhere. It doesn’t even fit thematically with blood magic, it has nothing to do with life leeching or healing, au contraire warhorn (asides swiftness) is a tool for getting life force and cc.

It used to be in curses line and I see no reason why it’s shouldn’t stay that way. Especially wih everybody complaning about it not being as good as other lines.

Just merge path of corruption with weakening shroud’s active effect – now you got a full shroud service for condi necros. The passive effect (weakness on crit with 10s icd) should be moved to one of the other two curse grandmaster traits so it won’t eclipse the other two completely and give option for some good wekaness uptime for those necros who aren’t into shroud flashing.

Now just put banshee’s veil into that master tier hole and you’re almost done. The empty slot in blood magic can be filled with some healing trait for party, for example sharing your life leech when downed with nearby party members. So even as you’re nearly dead you still heal them some.

I won't support a pro LGBT game.

Well to be honest I wasn’t aware. The transgender employees part – that’s first time i hear it, nice shocker. As for ingame stuff, only marjory & kasmeer come to mind, but i didn’t pay much attention to that other then being mindblowingly cheesy and annoying.

My problem is not with “depicting society” which does feature many things not everyone wants to see but are still there, such as these two. But when they openly endorsed it on social media as the Guild Wars 2, and not individual people, that slammed the gate shut for me.
