Fixing Major Revenant Issues

in Revenant

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

So, most Revenant players know the latest patch left a lot to be desired, as it basically just nerfed a few things and didn’t touch the rest of the class. Thus, I propose some basic changes be made to the problem areas of the class, namely: Ventari, Jalis, Sword-Offhand, Salvation and some other traits, along with some clunky skills.

This is all heavily based on my personal use, so I’m very open to suggestions, but I’d ask only actual Revenant players to provide input here, since most other threads here keep attracting many non-rev players who seemingly want the class nerfed to oblivion or can’t see beyond sword’s pre-patch strong auto-attack.

Jalis

Jalis as a whole is meant to be the “tanky, brawly, in your face” legend. He’s meant to allow you to go full ham and wail on the enemy in melee range, however it falls kind of short in this regard, largely to two skills. Keep in mind, I have some minor changes I’d recommend to the Retribution line which should maintain some balance, if thing seem a little OP at first.

Inspiring Reinforcement

In short, this skill is too clunky and hard to use for it’s primary purpose, stability.

I propose it be adjusted to a very short, bursty AoE stability skill, alongside becoming a stunbreak.

30 Energy, 10s Recharge, Instant Cast
Break stun and grant yourself and nearby allies stability for a short time.
2 Stability (3s).

The idea is that you have some fairly decent stability up-time and an accessible stunbreaker, but it should be fairly costly, making it somewhat difficult to keep-up, but still usable when you need it.

Rite of the Great Dwarf

This skill is really just too hard to access when you need it. The cast time is too long for the duration you get. I understand this is partially due to the AoE nature of the skill and I’d like to keep that there without making it too strong, thus.

50 Energy, Instant Cast
50% Damage Reduction (inc. Condis if traited) on nearby allies for Four (4) seconds.

Essentially I removed the stunbreaker, because it was useless and reduced the uptime by a second, so you can use it when you need a quick save. Keeping it at 5 might be worth-while, but it is an AoE skill.

Forced Engagement
The projectile speed is just a little too slow. Increasing it 25 – 50% would see it be a little more reliable.

Soothing Stone
Only major change here is making the Condition Clear fire off first, to clear poison and make the heal more reliable.

Summary of Jalis

Basically what I did here was give Revenant a little better access to emergency buttons, like other classes have. I feel this is where Jalis’ strength comes in, alongside it’s potent heal and the Vengeful Hammers upkeep. It allows a variety of defensive options, while still offering some nice group support.

Retribution

This line feels a little messy, so my goal here is to make it a little more consistent and balance it out with the above changes.

Improved Aggression
This trait is just a little too niche for anyone to really take, especially when you have close quarters available too. I’m personally not a huge fan of having a trait for one very specific skill, but if you’re going for a taunt build, I’d say buffing/nerfing this to a flat 25% on everything would be better, also including Slow, maybe even bumping up the damage reduction, since Taunt/Slow are so hard to access on Revenant, it’s a powerful trait but only in a very specific circumstance.

“Taunted foes deal less damage to you. Taunt and Slow have an increased duration”
Damage Reduced: 30% (could maybe even stay at 20)
Duration Increase: 25%

Essentially we end up with Taunt and Slow lasting for 2.5 seconds, instead of the flat 2. I thought about 50%, but that resulted in a 3 second taunt, which is not fun.

Unwavering Avoidance
This trait as a whole doesn’t sit well with me, especially now that it has an ICD. I’m generally not a fan of on-dodge traits as they’re too passive. Instead, I think this skill should give Jalis more Retaliation, in a similar way that Mallyx gets Resistance from Corruption. This should also buff Empowering Vengeance, since Rev will have better Retal uptime, instead of just from dodging or from Soothing Stone.

“Gain Retaliation when using a dwarf stance skill”
Retaliation (2s) (maybe even a little higher)

Steadfast Rejuvenation

This skill just can’t stand up to the other two GM traits in the line. My suggestion here is just to lower the ICD, perhaps by a second or two.

Ventari

The first thing I’ll say is my use of Ventari is kind of limited, largely due to it being completely useless in just about every gamemode and just being generally too clunky.

The tablet effect is cool and I like that, but it needs just a tiny, tiny amount of AI.

General Use

First thing, when you swap to Ventari, the tablet should automatically appear. That or allow us to have “non tablet” skills, similar to how Druid has it’s Glyphs. Personally I’m going with it just auto-activating.

Secondly, the tablet should automatically follow you to an extent, while still allowing placement. The tablet should stay close to the player, similar to how Pets, Gyros, etc. do.

Ventari’s Will
This skill needs a rework.

“Will the tablet to target location for 3 seconds, healing nearby allies along it’s path. The tablet will automatically return to you after this time.”

5 Energy, 4s Cooldown, Instant Cast

Healing: 500
Targets: 5
Radius: 240
Range: 900

This skill should then flip over

Ventari’s Return
Or call it whatever, I don’t care

“Return the tablet to your position, healing nearby allies along it’s path.”

5 Energy, 4s Cooldown (essentially global cooldown of 4s for the whole skill), Instant Cast
Healing: 500
Radius: 240
Range: 900

The idea here is to allow the tablet to require a little less effort to control, but still allow you to have that control should you need it. So you can either have the tablet sit at a place for 3 seconds and have it automatically return to you, or you can have it manually return, for an extra energy cost.

Protective Solace
Just make it a kitten water field already.

Purifying Essence
Lower the energy cost to 25. Allows for an emergency burst condi clear upon switching to Ventari if you spam it, at the cost of all your energy.

Energy Expulsion
Basically keep this skill the same, but obviously don’t destroy the tablet. Instead, “daze” or disable the tablet for 3 seconds.

Essentially my goal here is to maintain the theme of the tablet, but make it easier to access certain skills, and make it generally less clunky.

Salvation

This line is just a mess. It’s pretty much entirely useless unless you’re using a staff heal ventari build. It has little to no application outside of this, unlike almost every other legend. My goal is to retain it’s support and blind aspects, but allow it a little more flexibility.

Blinding Truths
Move this to Master, in place of Tranquil Benediction and change it to the following
“Centaur stance skills blind foes near the tablet”

Blind (2s), 10s ICD.

This is kind of a nerf, if you were spamming the heal skill currently, but this means you have a little more access to the blinds.

Tranquil Benediction
Completely revamp this trait. In principle it’s nice, but the healing orbs on staff are largely useless in actual gameplay. I propose using this to give Revenant a little more condition clear that it sorely needs. Not so much to make it OP, but enough to actually make a dent, also move to adept tier.

“Healing skills also clear one conditon (15s ICD)”

A simple trait that allows some condition management. The ICD might need to be played with a bit due to it’s extreme synergy with Ventari (one condi every 15s might be a bit strong for Rev), but in other builds it’s actually quite viable.

Hardened Foundation
This trait is too hard to actually make use of. This should be changed to something that benefits allies standing near the tablet.

“Allies near the Tablet gain 5% damage reduction”

We don’t want to step into Jalis territory, but we do want to encourage people to be near the tablet for things other than heals.

Eluding Nullification
Remove the ICD, it isn’t really necessary.

Selfless Amplification

Perhaps it’s my personal taste, but I’ve never been a fan of traits that rely on stats to be effective. I propose something that will synergize with both Herald and other traits in the line.

“Regeneration you apply is 30% more effective”

This is similar to a couple other traits out there, but gives Salvation users a little boost to their Regen, a boon that isn’t exactly super powerful unless you have copious amounts of healing power. It also gives a reason for flat power users to want to take this line.

Momentary Pacification

This trait just conflicts with too many elites. The Ventari elite itself conflicts with it too much, along with Jade Winds and Chaotic Release. Since most Revenant elites have short/non-existent CDs, it’s my assumption that a high amount of daze was expected, so I’d like to go with this theme.

“25% chance to daze target when attacking, 20s ICD”

Again, numbers may need tweaking here, but the principle is that you want to be able to throw out some dazes once in a while.

Summary

Basically with this line, I wanted to still allow the big healing buffs to be there for that playstyle, but also to give some condition clear play and some denial play to the line, that it’s clearly trying to achieve.

Help with my WvW theory build

in Warrior

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Quite a lot of interesting and good suggestions have already been made, so I wont go for anything in-depth.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAseRjMdUFajHehwJaAmgCbnPBXT7AQZW85A-TFTDAB9oEj7DBAFHBgHeAARpk4JlDvo+DI6DAwEnEnAAIUCSz+DkBgZCA-w

Basically all I did was change Warrior’s Sprint for Vigorous Focus. You already have a boatload of swiftness and mobility from your signet and movement skills. Warrior’s Sprint is kind of unneeded. Similarly I got rid of your points in Strength. To be honest you can go without the ~2k HP since Warrior already comes with a trillion HP and you have quite a bit of condi removal/reduction already. I put these points into Discipline for a 3% per boon on target DPS boost (usually between 6 – 15% depending on what you’re fighting) and a 10% DPS increase to Bleeding foes. Because you have a passive bleed chance and bleed on sword auto, this is basically permanent and these two traits together give a huge DPS increase compared to the 100 power from Strength.

I’d probably recommend Balanced Stance over Dolyak Signet since you have no signet CD reduction (tbh you could take Signet Recharge over VF if you wanted, which would provide a higher uptime on Fury, Swiftness and Might).

Another thing I’ll say is while theoretically the Might from Forceful GS gives higher damage, it can be a bit difficult to sustain (I’ve got over 5.5k Hours on my warrior and I still have issues sustaining 15 – 20 stacks unless it’s a bigger fight). You get more reliable damage out of Slashing Power, in which case you can go like 4/0/4/04 with 2 points to put anywhere. Up to you though.

Fixing/Addressing the Top 5

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

Stability

Revert or give each stack a small (.25 – 1s) ICD either for WvW only or game wide

Fix or Revert DBL
Temporarily retire DBL while it gets worked on. Introduce regular live tests for feedback. Keep most of the new systems like semi-auto-upgrades.

Rewards

Introduce reward tracks to assist with gearing and siege. Tracks like Ascended equipment, Siege, Ore, Cloth, Leather, unique skins, hero skins, etc are important.

Population Balance

Start with server mergers and transfer fee reductions. The end-goal should really be an entirely new server system.

Scoring

Just keep PPK. I don’t really have any answers to things like “nightcapping” or anything, if I’m entirely honest.

Zerker nerfed, allow us to swap asc gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

I think what is trying to be said here is that this nerf changes absolutely nothing.

Nobody is really complaining about a nerf to DPS. I mean sure it sucks Balthazar’s Balls, but let’s be honest, this just means for an efficient party everyone HAS to go full berserker to make encounters take a reasonable amount of time.

This hasn’t decreased Berserker spec dominance, it’s simply just reinforced it. This doesn’t make support, control, tanking or conditions any better. This has just gone “now zerkers will do slightly less damage”. That doesn’t fix the problem.

Nerfing straight DPS specs will never solve the problem. The problem of Berserker dominance lies in the enemy AI, Stats and general enemy encounters

Now I can understand, to an extent, why changing straight crit damage to Ferocity could make sense, it allows for slightly better scaling and brings crit damage in line with every other stat. From a purely spreadsheet based perspective, it makes sense. It still doesn’t accomplish what their apparent aim was, to decrease dominance of zerk specs and allow for further party comp diversity.

Inspiring Reinforcement 3 second cast time

in Revenant

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Been complaining about this since Beta.

The skill needs to be a short, small AoE burst stability. Skill should really look like:

Cast Time: Instant
Energy Cost: 20 – 35
Targets: 3 – 5
Stacks: 1 – 5
Duration: 3 – 6s
Radius: 300 – 600
Breaks Stun

With the values being changed within those ranges to create proper balance. I’m personally in favour of more stacks for a shorter duration on more targets for an average energy cost (3 stacks, 5s, 30 energy, 5s, 600 units)

Stunbreak would just be moved from RotGD and RotGD made instant cast.

Bam, Jalis fixed as a legend. Was that so hard?

CoF farm

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

I don’t think I am gonna enjoy game making max 3 gold a day trying to get precursor in next 2 years, while others got their for a month or less just because Anet wasn’t smart enough to understand that they are pleasing old audience and making life hard for those who came later.

As someone who has a Legendary (and for a lot of the money I did farm CoF quite a bit, because I was still a scrub) if you think obtaining a legendary is actually just “Farm CoF” then you’re doing it wrong.

A legendary is not about “COF COF COF $$$$ P1 ZERK WAR ONLY FARMING FOR 3HRS+”

This is the inherit problem of legendaries currently. They cost money, not time and skill. If you’re ONLY farming CoF P1 for your Legendary then you aren’t getting a legendary, you’re getting a fancy skin and that’s it.

Besides if you “get good” then you can actually make more money (depending on how much certain paths reward) with this update by completing other dungeons like CoE and Arah. Let’s say CoE rewards 1.5g for path 1 and 2g for path 2 and 3. All up that would take a skilled group an hour, maybe an hour and a half. That’s 5.5g. Now include drops. That’s maybe 6.5g. Now include a possible charged core or two (usually you’re looking at atleast 1 per 3 paths if you’re unlucky). That’s 7.5g. Now include 180 tokens which can be converted into rares, that’s 6 rares, on average about 6 ectos. Let’s say that’s around 1g for the ectos. Maybe less maybe more.

So for 1 – 1.5 hours, you’ve made 8.5g and that’s assuming you get NO RARES OR EXOTICS and only 1 charged core. If you get a rare or two, which usually happens, it goes up. If you get a lodestone, you get upwards of 10g.

For an extremely good group you’re looking at around 7 – 10g an hour, not including rare drops, with the current CoF farm. However this isn’t even fun. You’re playing the same content over and over and over for an hour. It’s not challenging and requires no thought and you can semi-afk it.

Tell me what’s more stimulating to you. Tell me what you’d rather do. CoF, pre-patch or CoE, post patch. I know what I’d do.

It comes down to understanding the content. PvE is all about damage with the way the AI works. Yes, you can run other specs and it works, but it takes far longer and it’s ultimately pointless. Toughness and Vitality are incredibly selfish stats. They are simply there to allow you to make more mistakes, that’s it.

The only time you’ll be kicked is if you join the wrong group. Join casual runs and you wont have a problem.

Legendary Dwarf Stance rework suggestions

in Revenant

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Inspiring Presence/Threatening roar – with an upkeep of -7, 1/4 cast time + no energy cost on cast, the Inspiring Presence skill applies stability in a radius of 360 for 1 second. It’s counter part Threatening roar cancels the effect of Inspiring Presence and applies weakness for 6 seconds in a 360 radius and features a cast time of 1/4, recharge of 20.

I actually really like this. Maybe not the Weakness component, as that’s kind of getting a bit too much into what Glint does. I’d probably leave it at the Stability. -7 Energy, 1 stack of Stability in 360 Radius for 1 second.

This would require them to rework the Stability on Dodge trait though, otherwise this would make Revenant’s far too immune to CC.

For the replacement of Vengeful Hammer I actually have 2 suggestions

1)Vengeful Hammers – spawn 2 spectral hammers which mimic all your weapon abilities. The duration is 20 sec, recharge is 45, energy cost is 35 and cast time is 1,1/2.

This is simply too strong. 2x Unrelenting Assault, Surge of the Mists, Precision Strike, Coalescence of Ruin, Drop the Hammer, etc is far, far too powerful.

2) Vengeful Hammering – this skill places a combo field lighting on the ground and deals damage in 3 stages on the area in which the combo field is. The first stage deals damage, the second stage deals more damage and the third stage deals damage and blasts the combo field.

Of important note is that the combo field is the same as the one from Inspiring Reinforcement, but every time a pulse happens a hammer appears and slams the road unto each pulse, from the side (first hammer from left, second one from right) with 2 hammers appearing on the final pulse for the blast, hammering the road from both sides.

This would require too much visual work and is a little too similar to Elemental Blast, minus the final Blast finisher.

Rite of the Great Dwarf – by default reduces incoming condition damage. Cast time reduced to 1.

Versed in Stone makes it so that you heal based on a % of damage taken.

Reduce the cast time yes. Condition Damage & Versed in Stone, probably not.

All round some decent suggestions. Jalis could honestly go multiple ways with it’s up-keep. You could have RotG, Inspiring Reinforcement or Vengeful Hammers as an Upkeep. I think if you kept Vengeful Hammers, that would be best (though they need a collision rework).

I think changing Inspiring Reinforcement to your second idea, the Weakness/Shout thing would be best, but include a few stacks of Stability for Allies. Essentially 3 stacks of Stab for 5 seconds on allies and Weakness on Enemies for 5 seconds. Make it a stunbreak, remove the stunbreak from RotG.

[Merged] Your opinions of the LFG tool

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

To make it perfectly clear…

I have no issue teaching people, but there is a time and place. A large amount of the community sees Arah P2 as a higher tier dungeon, not something that a casual would do.

I have no issue running with randoms. I do however have an issue with:

People who can’t play their class
People who can’t dodge
People who can’t understand new mechanics
People who join without reading the kittening description

The main issue is people joining without reading the description. I don’t expect everyone to be super elite mlg minmaxed full ascended extra super zerk full legendary scholar runes. I expect people to read the description. I expect people to use the tool correctly, not just ‘Hot join on enter’ and let anyone into the group.

The reason why people usually ask for what I said in OP, is because those people don’t want to have to teach people their class, the dungeon, the game mechanics, etc.

Like, I shouldn’t be having to explain to a level 80 Warrior why running 5 signets is garbage and asking them to change their build.

Don’t go flinging around the terms ‘elitist’ and things like that. It’s not about elitism, it’s about wanting to group with people who actually care about the people in their group. I.e “I’m not going to just semi-afk through the run because that would be unfair to the people in my party” things like that.

My (and others) reasoning for AP:

AP is a general indication for how long a player has been playing the game. Typically someone with ~3k AP has been playing long enough to understand most basic mechanics of the game. For example, you’ll usually look at someone with 0 – 500 AP and think they’re new. I’ve almost always been correct in assuming a player’s skill level based on their AP level. It simply comes down to experience over time. You don’t get 10,000 AP by being a scrub.

Why can’t you guys just form your own groups? It sucks that once or twice you might have been told off for joining a meta group when you didn’t understand what was happening, but that’s no reason to ruin everyone else’s time.

The lfg is there for a reason. There is more than plenty non-meta non-zerk groups you can have fun with. Why specifically join a meta group and then link gear you aren’t wearing just to waste someone else’s time?

How would you like it if someone did this to you? If you were standing in a queue somewhere in real life and wanted to be in and out of the place relatively quickly and some random decided to hold everything up at the front of the queue not because they had a legitimate problem, but just to upset you and waste your time

You don’t even know them, but simply by being there they decided it’s their duty to hold you up.

This is exactly what you guys are doing and in the real world that kind of stuff is socially unacceptable behaviour.

If you want I can join your groups and bug out the last boss and prevent you from killing it after you’ve spent the past 45 minutes getting to it. I mean you wouldn’t mind would you? I just enjoy that playstyle and I’m playing how I want. That’s pretty much what you guys are doing to us.

Join or make your own groups. We aren’t hurting or insulting you. Just don’t join a meta group without running meta. It isn’t hard. If you want to be part of the fast runs then get friends to carry you or learn to run Zerk.

Well holy kitten if there wasn’t some lore bombs here.

1. Magic is like “light” with each dragon energy being a component of said light. Other Dragons can and have absorbed other Elder Dragon’s magic. The combine energy forms Ley-line energy or “white” light.

2. The Mursaat, according to the tablets weren’t all that bad. They were abandoned by the other races.

3. The Mursaat and Forgotten assaulted Zhaitan together but failed. Also they both used constructs.

4. Mother-kittening-ing Aurene, the new baby elder dragon.

5. Lazarus is a “good” guy now.

6. The Chak filter out Death magic.

Astralaria III Meteorite Ingot Recipe Bug

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Players on the legendary journey for Astralaria III will encounter a bug involving Meteorite Ingots. Currently the recipe only provides 1 ingot, where it is intended to provide 25. We plan to fix that recipe bug as soon as we can.

If you craft only 1 Ingot before the recipe fix, all is not lost. After the recipe fix, you may speak with Grandmaster Craftsman Hobbs in Lion’s Arch and choose the conversation option “I have misplaced a vital component for crafting my Legendary.” For a small amount of Karma, you will be able to purchase Meteorite Ingots in stacks of 5. Only 25 are required for this collection.

We wanted to let you know about this before all you legendary crafters run into the issue and as we said, we’ll get this corrected as soon as we can.

This is LITERALLY THE BEST NEWS I HAVE HEARD IN A MONTH OH MY GOD THANK YOU

Roy! No changes to Ventari and Jalis?

in Revenant

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Yeah… really hoping to see some Jalis and Ventari improvements. Simply put, they’re trash right now due to some pretty minor things that have major impacts.

Inspiring Reinforcement being the absolute main offender here. I’ve been complaining about this since beta. Just give some minor AoE stability on cast. Couple seconds, maybe a stack or two. Give the Stun Break to IR and then remove it from RotGD and make RotGD instant cast.

Bam, jalis fixed.

Fix Jalis this Balance Patch

in Revenant

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

We all know that Jalis is complete trash in 90% of the game. It’s only real use is the hammers for extra DPS in PvE. Even then Mallyx is arguably almost as good and you use Shiro anyway if you don’t have a chrono.

Jalis is completely underpowered and outshone by every other legend. It has some really great ideas but due to balance on this legend being largely neglected after BWE3, they remained undertuned. The core problem with this Legend is that on paper it seems fine but in practice it is completely unusable in any serious competitive setting.

Right now there are two major issues with Jalis that completely hold it back.

Rite of the Great Dwarf

In principle, this skill is great. It’s a nice AoE damage reduction with condi reduction while traited. The problem is the cast time is still too long. I was a pretty big supporter of reducing it to the level it is now, but if I’m entirely honest it just isn’t enough, not with the duration that you currently get.

I’m not going to try and make any major suggestions for how to change this, other than maybe just removing the cast time and the stun break, because this thread is just about us getting actual buffs to Jalis. There’s a hundred suggestions in this forum for how to change it.

Inspiring Reinforcement

As with RotGD, on paper this skill rocks, in practice it’s a complete waste of 30 energy.

The stability just takes far too long to proc, along with the field being too restrictive and the stability being too weak in the current meta.

I think the recurring theme I’ve seen for changes is to just make this an AoE skill similar to Stand Your Ground and to add the Stunbreak from RotGD onto this skill. It’s what I’m preferential to, but again, any major buff is what matters. Make this skill useful, make the stability instant.

These two skills are the biggest reasons why Jalis sees no serious use in PvP or WvW, and when they are used they’re mediocre at best. The legend was completely neglected last patch. Please don’t make the same mistake this time.

A call to remove Scarlet from Thaumanova

in Fractured

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

I’m almost certain that the vast majority of the Fractals community and to an extent, the Guild Wars 2 community, does not like Scarlet Briar.

Scarlet Briar has no place in the Thaumanova Reactor. Period. The community has constantly cried for her story to end, yet now she is permanent. She is a permanent character is fractals.

I beg this question; If the Abaddon fractal was chosen, would Scarlet be included?
I think we all know the answer and though I wont go into detail, I’m sure most people now understand that the Abaddon fractal was never, ever going to be made.

I think it’s time for ArenaNet to listen to their players and fix their errors. Make a change to their ways. What am I proposing?

Rewrite the Thaumanova fractal. Just remove her entirely. She doesn’t need to be there and she’s tainting perfectly good. There is no shame in admitting bad design and story choices.

Remove her, even if it’s after the living story update ends, just remove her from fractals. Don’t force her upon us every time we have to do Fractals. It’s not fair on your players. This is probably the biggest slap in the face we’ve ever had. We cried out for months about her.

This is your community calling out to you. Remove her from the Fractal.

Opportunity Cost: Why WvW is Dying

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Rewards never brought players to WvW in the firs place, so in my opinion, that debunks that theory.

My logic is players saying “why would I play WvW when I can do X instead because that has better rewards”. Yes there are people who play WvW for WvW but look how small that community is now. Look how many people are playing EotM. Those players could be in WvW fighting instead but where’s the incentive.

Where’s the incentive for PvP or PvE players to actually play WvW outside of the actual experience? There isn’t one. The initial fun usually dies off for all but the hardcore players.

I’m not saying people don’t jump into WvW for fun or curiosity, but those players who aren’t super keen on the game mode would be much more likely to participate and treat it like the 1/3 of the game it is if the rewards were on par with PvP and PvE.

I’m using the same reasoning many players use for FotM being dead. The rewards suck. Sure, it’s awesome and people get into it because it sounds cool, but why would people keep doing it unless they REALLY want those Fractal Skins. They wouldn’t and they wont. They go farm SW instead.

ArenaNet's stance on Macros

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Firstly, I want to make it VERY clear. This post does not support violation of the rules and does not support botting.

I’d like to address ArenaNet’s stance on macros, in particular the part of Gaile’s post
Link Here
Macros
Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.
This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.
For example, if you Press A and it results in the casting of a single skill, you’re ok. If you Press A and it casts multiple spells, you’re not ok

Now, the parts in bold are what I take issue with. Simply google “Definition of macros” and you get the following:

Macros
A single instruction that expands automatically into a set of instructions

ArenaNet’s stance actually disallows the use of actual macros and this is what I take issue with. Were I to set a macro on my G15 keyboard to say hit “ZXC”, which is what I have my utilities set to on my warrior (set as 3 shouts), I’d be in violation. I feel this is silly. Efectively ArenaNet’s stance, unless I’m mistaken, says “We do not allow macros, but we do allow you to use shortcut keys”

I can agree with ArenaNet taking a stance that would disallow the use of lengthy macros, i.e. one that would effectively complete a dungeon for you.

I believe ArenaNet needs to draw a line somewhere, but not here. A macro is used to perform a set of actions, not a single one and I think the definition was somehow lost in Gaile’s post. I’d urge ArenaNet to revisit this, as their current stance does NOT allow macros, but just extra keybindings.

To finish, I’d like to reiterate what I said earlier, I do not encourage or support the use of botting programs, scripts or anything that would provide anyone with significant advantage in game, nor would I suggest using “G-Keys” to fire off more than 1 skill. I suggest to ArenaNet that they revisit this policy or at least reword it into a simple “No, Macros are not permitted”

Also, should this thread be in the wrong section, I’d ask that any moderators or ArenaNet staff kindly move this and if I have misread or misunderstood the post made by Gaile, that I be corrected. Thank you.

The Dumbing Down of Human Cultures in GW2

in Lore

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Another thing to remember is, at least with the Ascalonians, it’s been over 250 years since they came to Kryta. That’s around ten generations. Think of that as your Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather being Ascalonian. Sure there’s going to be some cultural undertones, but ultimately everyone in DR is Krytan.

The best real world example I can give is the British Empire settling Australia around 250 years ago. Really only 22% of Australians are descended from British exiles, yet how many define themselves by or even know of that? Probably less than 1%. It simply doesn’t impact the culture or the day-to-day life of individuals in the same way being Ascalonian really isn’t a huge deal in Kryta today. You’re Krytan, with Ascalonian heritage in the same way you can be Australian/American/Kiwi/Canadian/etc and have British heritage but act nothing like a British person.

when some one says this is It’s completely ridiculous. you can only see where they are going to next. and some times some are just too hard headed to see the light like i said before and this is how i think it should go in these cases . frist time 60 day bann second time a 90 day ban . and the 3rd time prema bann. and i hope the cs team posts on this saying it clear for others to get there heads around. and it is cases like this why i keep my chats turned off .

So you think it’s entirely justified for someone to lose their account for two months, perhaps three, for discussing a movie?

And then you suggest they PERMANENTLY lose their account? An account some have spent THOUSANDS of hours on, because they mentioned something that has absolutely literally nothing to do with Guild Wars 2? This is simply preposterous.

Zerker nerfed, allow us to swap asc gear

I think it depends on the change. If they nerf crit damage into the ground, then yes, I totally agree. If they destroy the zerk spec, let us change it.

If it’s really not bad like maybe adding a 100% crit damage cap or something then I don’t think this is necessary.

Enhanced Squad UI Feedback

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Currently the Squad UI doesn’t display boons or conditions. WHile I understand there are certain constraints with displaying this, I feel it’s necessary for Squad UI to be useful at all.

Simply put, it’s useless without it. Sure, creating parties and viewing everyone’s health is neat but if you can’t see who has stability, who has might and how much, you aren’t getting out of it what you would from a party. Hopefully this gets added before release.

In terms of the actual UI I think a better way to do with would be something similar to Simplified Party UI, or even just add your subsquad to the top in this form and add there boons. I’m sure the wonderful art team and UI team at ANet can figure this one out

[PvE] Revising the "DPS Meta"

in Profession Balance

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

We are trying to take steps to address some of the dominance of Berserker/DPS players. More info next week, I think.

Jon

I’m about to say what’s already been said here, but I feel the more voices the better.

Do not nerf berserker gear or Power/Precision specs

This will not fix the problem. It will only make it worse. Remember that if you lower how much DPS a berserker stat puts out, it’s incredibly likely you’ll also nerf the damage a non-berserker spec is putting out.

Buff other playstyles

Introduce new mechanics to the PvE scene. I can almost 100% guarantee you’d see a split of 2 power DPS, 1 Control, 1 Condition DPS and 1 support if you changed the way bosses worked to be suitable for those. Don’t just buff conditions or lower the amount of stacks of defiant an enemy has. Remove defiant, make enemies far more vulnerable to conditions, add mechanics like “on-crit retaliation” so that if you’re criting a great deal, you need a support character to help.

Decrease the health of enemies and introduce new ways to fight them. The problem isn’t that DPS Spec and zerk gear being so dominant, it’s that the other specs are so utterly weak and completely unnecessary that bringing them is a waste of a slot.

There is thousands of interesting, yet simple ways to improve the mechanics. Adding procing stability, add crit-based retaliation, swap the HP sponge with toughness sponge.

Again, I repeat do not nerf berserkers, rework the mechanics.

An idea: Replace WvW with Alliance v Alliance

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

The idea of an alliance system would work, however it needs to be larger scale than 3 guilds. The system they had in place for Guild Wars 1 worked quite well. A guild allies with one “side” and those sides fight.

There’s a bunch ways to transfer this system to Guild Wars 2, with all having problems of their own. I think choice, however, is important. One of the reasons why EotM doesn’t work is that along with the short match-ups and overflow system, there is no choice or sense of “loyalty”. You’re not fighting for Overgrowth, you’re just green. A change to the system needs to account for server/alliance/faction loyalty, as well as the flexibility that WvW currently lacks.

Here’s an example

We can use the AB names with addition of Imperials, just for simplicity.

A guild or individual could pick between Luxons, Kurzicks and Imperials. Each month you’d get an RNG set of guilds and players based on your choice, with a mini “tournament”. Every week, each Luxon, Kurzick and Imperial sub-alliance changes match-ups, with the Alliance that has the most total wins winning the match

That’s just one example. There’s so, so many ways to fix the current system. Hell even just combining servers would work. The population is currently spread a little too thin beyond T4 and match-ups are completely unbalanced, with some servers in the same tier able to queue all maps, and others that can’t even queue one.

WvW is basically broken at the moment and no amount of tournaments, trailers, siege masteries or photoshopped doritos will help it. It needs a proper rework. The game mode has incredible potential. It’s just being wasted.

Adrenalins "Nerf" and QQing

in Warrior

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

There appears to be a lot of complaining on the forums lately about the changes to adrenaline. I figured it’s probably worth trying to be the voice of reason, though these are the GW2 Official Forums, but hey, let’s give it a crack anyway.

The changes to adrenaline make sense when compared to every other profession. Simply put, Burst skills were far too forgiving. Look at every other profession mechanic. If you miss, things still go on CD and your clones/initiative/lifeforce still get drained.

By transitioning to this system, it means there is a higher skill level required to be effective. Gone are the days of just dumping an Earthshaker or Eviscerate whenever you like. Now you actually need to use them carefully.

Adrenaline diminishing outside of combat also makes sense. It was too easy to build up adrenaline and this system never really worked that great anyway.

To be perfectly honest, his is a good thing for our class. *It’s going to seperate the goods from the bads. I’ve logged over 4k hours on my warrior doing high end FotM, WvE and tPvP. These changes are positive things as it never made sense keeping your adrenaline anyway.

tl;dr if you’re QQing about the changes, you need to git gud.
