Haha, let’s not get carried away with analogies. A company offering a service is nothing like a wife. There is also nothing wrong by supporting and forgiving a wife even if she did “betray” you.

I’m not saying they can’t do it, but they have other priorities they want to do first.

Quite impressive to have been playing a game for 3 years when it have only been out for about 2,5.

I am also questioning if you have tried the new areas or the new/updated world bosses. Since they are very much not easier than stuff at launch.

You are also missing the fact that there is an expansion coming that is basically only for veteran players (only contains max-level stuff as far as we know).

That’s just being technical with dates. It’s close enough.

So it could possibly be a paid expansion.

Guaranteed zero rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nexxe.7081

Rewards are definitely lacking in this game, but I think it’s more related to RNG than anything else.

I don’t think it’s lacking at all. I actually think there’s too much. The real problem is, that the rewards themselves, are awful. They aren’t thought out at all, and they are just randomized.

Most bags and chests contain random crafting materials and gear, regardless of what content you do. Killed a champ? Oh, great. Blues and greens, and crafting mats. You can be sure all the other champs drop the same thing. Loot a chest? Same thing. Complete a dungeon? Same thing. Complete a personal story step? Same thing, with some extra stuff added.

Loot isn’t really specific for anything in this game. Most of the encounters for rewards contain the same things. I might be wrong, but this has been my experience so far.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The zerker meta could be killed instantly if they just implemented an automatic grouping function, which teleports people inside, just like every other MMO does it.

A penalty timer would be incurred for people who leave, thus making them stay in the group instead of bailing. There wouldn’t be much kicking either, because the chance of getting a non-zerker player would still be high, and in that case, they are just better off forming their own group.

An automatic dungeon tool would do wonders for new players and casual players. Believe it or not, people get intimidated when they see “80s only, zerker only, pros only”. It gives the impression that dungeons should be played a certain way, and that there’s no room for learning, especially 3 years into the game.

As a veteran who doesn’t want to pre-purchase, i’m given two choices.

1. Pre-purchase within a time limit, to get a “loyalty” perk.
2. Buy it later, without a “loyalty” perk.

I guess this means their generosity is only temporary, and our loyalty is treated as such.

I shouldn’t be surprised though, because most of their content was temporary anyway, and veterans have always been pushed to the side for new players.

I’ll just feel bad for the new players of today, who will be treated as temporary vets in the future.

Not everyone is equally skilled, and the fights should be balanced, and Liadri is nowhere near balanced.

Yes, there will be those who are better, but if Anet wants to cater to the minority, they will just leave the majority frustrated, and they will just quit the game.

I started out with 240+ tickets and i’m down to 89 now. I’ve tried different classes and builds, but those don’t really matter, because i just saw a video with a lvl 2 warrior beat her.

It’s the mechanics of the fight that are terribly imbalanced. There is too much awareness that is needed. Dodging, Running, Vigor management, Condition curing, Removing boons from Liadri, avoiding Visions, avoiding AOE, avoiding random Orbs.

Currently, there is more frustration than enjoyment on this fight. And that’s always a bad thing in a video game. It’s bad design.

They need to get rid of either the orbs, or visions, in phase 2, and it would be so much more balanced, and less awareness to worry about.

-No monthly fee
-No way to 100% purchase items that increase stats and makes you win (P2W).
-Not a must to use gem system to have top items or exclusive items. (can change gold for gems)

Boys this is a business, and IMO a noble one . . .

Why you get mad if the company tries to profit? . . . they have REAL alternatives to never use your credit card.

Nobody’s really getting mad. People are just upset that most released content is on the Gem Store only. Just look at today’s update. There are 5+ items for the Gem Store, but nothing available to be acquired in game, which could be earned. Everything is centered on the Gem Store in this update.

Those alternatives aren’t viable either. They aren’t factoring in the use of people’s time, which is more valuable than money. The amount of time it will take to convert gold to gems would be weeks to months for the average person, and i’m only talking about for around 1000 gems. So it’s either people’s time or their money, and most people have chosen to spend their time on other games or real life things. How do i know this? Because the gold-to-gem conversion keeps going up, which means less people are buying gems, and selling them for gold, because there’s less people playing overall.

If it was truly viable, they would allow the sale of certain items from the Gem Store to be sold on the Trading Post. That would actually incentivize more people to buy Gem Store items, and they can choose which items to sell for gold.

Here’s the way i see it. The team that worked on the Molten Alliance dungeon could have added new end-game Dynamic Events, and then the old ones like Jormag & Shatterer could be phased out with a story, telling us they have died, etc.

These events could last several months until the next Living Story. Instead, we get a new dungeon for a couple weeks, while still keeping the old end-game dragon events.

While your love for the game is admirable, it’s not like you HAVE to get it. Don’t want it? do something else.

It gets tiring seeing this argument thrown around. It fails on so many levels.

Yes, it’s optional, but it’s also an “end-game reward” that was released for the latest content, the Living Story. If they are going to release rewards that require grind and massive gold sinks, how is this different than WoW?

In WoW, raid gear is also optional, but if you don’t want to raid, then your choices of gameplay are severely limited to PvP, achievements, etc. Ironically, this was one of the reasons GW2 players hated WoW, and they are now telling others to do something else besides “raid” (end-game content).

At least in WoW though, they release content for all playstyles in huge updates, such as dungeons, pvp gear, battle pets, etc. This doesn’t happen in GW2, except for new achievements associated to the Living Story. The Living Story is limiting to one experience of the game. It’s not at all tied to WvW, or SPvP, or dungeons.

In GW2, the Living Story is their main form of content. If players don’t feel enticed to earn the rewards from it, then their options are limited to old content, with nothing new to do. There wasn’t anything added to SPvP or WvW, dungeons, etc., to their new content updates. To be fair though, their last update in Dry Top added new ambrite weapons along with kites and other rewards, but even these were locked behind a multi-step RNG process.

So yes, it’s optional, but at what cost? By dsienfranchising a segment of the playberbase from their major rewards?

Addressing a misconception about AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

Let’s clear something up about AP.

AP is not about player skill. It is not about experience.

AP in my opinion measures how seriously you take this game – if you took the time to grind out achievement points every day/living story cycle then that means GW2 means a lot to you and that you’re willing to put in time and effort into this game.

What does that mean? Why does it matter?

It means that you’re probably going to have invested enough time to be up to date with the latest builds, have ascended/legendary gear, and generally played through most of the game lots of times.

People that farm AP are generally players who aim for the top of everything in the game. The most expensive/ rare gear, the hardest titles – that sort of thing.

So yes – in a sense AP does matter as an indicator – an indicator for people to find other similar people.
High-AP people want to play with other high-AP people because they’re similar. And similar people have similar goals but also similar solutions to getting those goals.

High-AP players tend to be reward-oriented – and naturally want to group up with other reward-oriented people in order to maximize efficiency.

So if you’re new and feel excluded because of AP – it doesn’t have anything to do with you as a person and has everything to do with the fact that you’re new or not so invested in the game.

It’s been 2 years since the game started and experienced players pretty much want other experienced players to play with.

I’m hoping this clears up a few misconceptions about AP.
I’ve seen a lot of people saying that it doesn’t mean you are experienced or good – and they’re right.
But because of the reasons above any experienced player will tell you that if you have to choose between 2 random players in your party the one with higher AP has a better chance of being experienced than the one with the lower AP ( provided of course the difference is somewhat significant – anything over 2-3k difference).

Edit : A the beginning of my post I accidentally replaced “not” with “now” – I apologize as it seems to have confused a lot of people.

The intent of the line was AP is NOT about player skill.

Uhh, not necessarily. I have over 5k and have never stepped foot inside an explorable dungeon. I don’t have full exotics, crafting professions maxed, low WvW ranks and abilities, low-ranked SPvP, etc. Achievement points are easy to get without even trying.

Dailies just don't do it for me...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

There shouldn’t even be dailies.
They could’ve added more content for solo’ers, small groups, & guilds instead.

These events could be randomized on a daily timer, with a zone-wide alert, in each zone.

Yes, the meta-events are the same thing, but they usually require pre-events to trigger them, making them obscure, because of the lack of knowledge of the chained events.

These other events would be different though, that wouldn’t require pre-requisites, and they would offer similar rewards such as laurels, mystic coins, etc., and perhaps these rewards could be restricted once per day, such as the current daily system. They could also offer different rewards for guilds, which offer more influence points, or more bonuses.

But you know, E-sports and Biconics is what it’s important right now.

I don’t understand this kind of post. MMORPG had MMO in it for a good reason. 3/4 of the content in GW 2 is arlready doable in solo. If you do the same with dungeons, it’s th death of the PvE. Random groups have certains defaults, of course, but it’s the point of an online game, you meet people, some goods, some bads and you deal with it.

There is plenty of awesome solo Rpg, don’t try to kill the essence of a game.

MMO never meant forced grouping, or grouping in general. It’s always meant that the environment is to be shared on a massive scale. There have always been instanced and non-instanced content. Neither is exclusive to “MMO”.

in Living World

nexxe.7081

I like what i’ve read so far, but i’ll have to try it when it goes live to see if it’s good enough.

Charging gems for story content is a terrible idea though. That’s akin to a monthly subscription, but at least in a subscription mmo, you get all the content, instead of having it in piecemeal chunks. Just terrible.

You do realise that the story content is free……only if you missed out on an episode now you have the option to buy it.

Really, you only have to log in once every 2 weeks to get all the stories unlocked for free.

GW2 has no sub,has no expansion you must buy, and you don’t have to buy the LS Episodes either (even if u miss out on some of them its not a must to complete them only if you want to)…so what is ooooh soooooo terrible?

I’m thinking long-term here.

Hypothetical: In 6 months, or a year, someone buys gw2. They finish their personal story, which comes free with the game. Then Season 2 ends. Season 3 starts, but the new player missed out on Season 2.

Does this mean they have pay for each update to Season 2 to catch up to Season 3? Season 1 had around 20 story updates added to it.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/
Flame & Frost, Secret of Southsun, Sky Pirates of Tyria, Bazaar of the Four Winds, Blood & Madness, etc.

That’s 20 × 200, which equals 4000 gems.

That’s very unreasonable for a new player just starting out.
I’m just trying to get clarification here, because we don’t know all the details yet.

Dodge.

I went back to WoW for a few days when they were offering free play time and the one thing i missed more then anything was dodging, that and moving while casting.

Also the graphics in GW2 are superior to any other mmo.

Every class can cast something while moving. I don’t know why some of the people here insist on being dishonest when describing other games.

umm im not being dishonest, unless they have changed every single caster in WoW to cast while moving in the last few months what i said is 100% true.

WoW is incredibly outdated these days in every aspect, they are desperately playing catch up, look at there new expansion, they have copied paste things from more modern mmos.

Yes, you are. While you can’t cast everything while moving, you can cast some things and you certainly aren’t rooted in one place for a duration of the fight.

It’s more like evolving rather than desperately playing catch up, while GW2 devolved by introducing an obvious, flat out gigantic grind with the introduction of ascended gear.

Warlock 2.5 sec rooted Shadow Bolt fillers and 3 sec rooted Chaos Bolts ftl.

I went back and watched our Heroic kill of Deathwing and it was just awful, sitting there, rocking back and forth casting shadowbolt fillers. Ugh, never again.

Cataclysm ended over a year ago. You obviously don’t even play any more, like most of the others here, and therefore have no idea what you’re talking about.

I will say this, however. Roleplaying a zergling and spamming 1 doesn’t sound like much fun.

You act as if WoW has radically changed or something. It’s combat is still the same. Stop trying to defend it as if it’s combat is similar to GW2, because it’s not.

You cannot move while casting spells. Period. The only exception is if you have certain talents or glyphs. I play WoW everyday, so stop trying to make excuses.

…the ability to turn someone via perma buff into a tank or healer…would add serious depth without requiring a complete redesign…

Making a perma tank or perma healer doesn’t sound like adding depth. Sounds like making a character 1-dimensional.

Why do we insist on forcing the trinity on GW2? It was a part of a very popular MMORPG. But it doesn’t need to be a part of every MMORPG. Halo has sticky grenades and they are really fun….not every FPS needs em.

This game is making a go at a non-trinity combat style. It may need tweaking, but let’s not just be lazy and fall back on something that, in my opinion, is a tired mechanism that creates boring dungeon play. Let’s think of ways to promote the combat style that already exists but with less emphasis on the zerg.

The current design is sub-par. Trying out different styles like GW2 has is good, but sometimes you have to recognize that it’s not always best and needs to be tweaked to a better design philosophy.

And how many of those “every other big MMO” does not require a subscription to play?

Make sure to make the character the “right” way from the start if it is such big of an issue to pay a rather small amount of gems to change it later.

They need to get money from somewhere. And I for one prefer if it is for things like these instead of from selling game-effecting stuff.

By that logic, they should charge for dying armor too. People should get their colors the “right” way from the start. All dye previews should be disabled, and the only way to see them is to purchase them first.

The point is, where does it stop? Why does it stop at character customization? Why not restrict people to one armor set, and then charge gems for each new armor piece they acquire? Want to equip it? Too bad, now get charged 100 gems to do it. Why stop there though? They could charge for swapping out sigils and runes, or new utility skills.

Since you seem to assume they are so starved for money, “they need to get money from somewhere”, this should be reasonable right? It’s people like you who blindly accept everything they do, which makes the RMT model so insidious at times.

This content is permanent. I.E. it’s not going anywhere. So 5 years down the line, you can keep coming back to it. Burning yourself out by only doing these events over and over again is your own problem. The amber weapons have been out for three days. Three. However, I’ll actually agree with you on one point – I’d prefer they weren’t account bound.

RNG has been in every MMO since the dawn of time. I killed Onyxia in WoW 50+ times and never once saw my Warlock T2 helmet. In a game that does not have a monthly subscription, RNG is a necessary evil – unfortunately it’s how it keeps the gem store going and the game funded for more releases.

Shelve this game all you want, the grass isn’t greener on the other side.

It’s funny how you try to blame the player, instead of the actual game design and thought process that was put into it. RNG isn’t a necessary evil. It’s just “evil”. It’s terrible game design, without a better algorithmic process.

As one poster above mentioned, it could be programmed to increase the chances of obtaining an item, by caculating the amount of tries that the chests were open. It actually gives the players more control of their time. If someone wants to spend more time to get something faster, then he could have that choice, and if the casual player wanted to obtain that item, over a year’s time, then they would have that choice too.

Speaking of WoW, i thought people like you didn’t want GW2 to become WoW. So now, since Anet does it, the RNG is a “necessary evil”. Fanboys sure are funny.

All we really want is actual EndGame content.

So you already have got ascended armors and weapons on all your characters? Sounds nice eh?
If you don’t, then you don’t have all maxed armors and weapons and also, if “you don’t care about ascended things” it’s not a problem of the game.

Gear is only the reward.. it needs a path to get to it.

If that path is too worn out, it becomes a mundane task that is repeatedly used.
