Exactly I will be anti anything regarding this. The AP system is fine the way it is except a few achievements which give too few or too many AP for the required effort.

Elitism just isn’t a good reason.
No worries, the change will come eventually.

Maybe? I suspect the cap may be re-examined, as it’s a very easy tweak. Change one variable, pretty much. (MaxDailyAP=20000; or something to that effect.)

An actual overhaul to the system is less likely. Then again ANet has a rather extended history of backtracking on things they did prior in order to fix what should have been done right the first time. >.>

Or simply live with the fact that you missed something. The historical AP are the main reason the top 25 does not have exactly the same AP, the other reason are expensive achievements like precursor collections and black lion collections. There are no skill based achievements in this game that your cannot get in a short time of practicing. This includes the raid achievements.

Again many don’t get involved with raids (or WvW, or PvP).
I guess it doesn’t matter what others may want or suggest, you will be anti anything that suggests removal, changing, fixing or updating the AP to be more relevant to the game as it now exists. So far none of your reasoning has changed my opinion. They all seem to come down to others have done it and so should you, but I respect your opinion and you right to voice it. It’s something that needs to be changed regardless. Hopefully you can accept others opinions as well.

Then simply life with the fact that daily AP exists. It isn’t going to threaten the irrelevance of the leader boards, with or without a cap.

I’m cool with not getting AP rewards for past events. The requirements were fairly reasonable for the first two years or so. I merely didn’t do them. Oh darn, but that was more or less my choice.

With or without the cap, it’s nice to have daily AP to nudge toward a big box in a little under two months. If anything, the persistent AP contributions need to be nudged higher, so that particularly difficult tasks are actually rewarded properly. If 5 or 10AP is a daily, then a player’s first legendary should actually be worth what? It takes a month or two of effort, so.. 150AP? 250AP? Sure as kitten not 25.

I also wouldn’t have been particularly bitter if daily AP was set to 5, as that was all I did out of the old set anyway. It was set to 10AP because some people tried to do all of them for the AP reward, and ANet determined it wasn’t good for experiencing the rest of the game. Now I hit up PvP for track rewards and whatever easy PvE ones there happen to be (Vista, gathering) and drops-in-the-ocean Spirit Shards. I don’t feel particularly “achievey” for those 10 points, and could easily accept 5. Or 3, whatevs.

Something they could do is increase the Daily Cap by as many APs as those you are missing from Historical and Retired achievements. So if you are missing 5k historical achievements (new player) your daily cap would be 20k, not 15k. In that way you can compensate for not being there when some content was released by doing extra daily achievements.

Although for me the best way to deal with the Daily Achievements is to make them infinite and add some form of decay.

Classy idea. I like it!

I dislike it. Some historical achievements were tons of effort and dailies would be much easier to get. And no I dont have all historical achievements (missing 20 AP there).

I dunno. It’d be better for the playerbase to even the field by ditching any AP gained from achievements that can’t be accessed anymore. Which would including re-locking gains (skins, titles) from chests as the AP is re-balanced.
That way, only the persistent AP exists and everyone can actually compete in the leader boards that no one cares about.

Also, lets remove the limit on jumping puzzles. I should get AP every time I complete a jumping puzzle, not just the first time. Also, the salvage AP. I should get that every time I salvage 200 items.

Anyone who voluntarily does a jumping puzzle deserves what is coming at him, in one way or the other.
And yes, you should not have an AP for salvaging. It simply does not make sense to cap it, either remove it or remove the cap altogether. If someone is willing to risk his health for clicking on countless items to salvage them, why not? I simply fail to understand how this affects you. If you quit GW2 right now, nobody will remember that you were Nr. 1 for X years in six months, you can trust me on that. Only a hall of fame which is constantly upgraded but shows your old efforts too could change that.

Is there really a market for elitism and envoy/anger/some other bias for people looking for easy stuff complaining everywhere, from A as AP up to Z as Zhaitan is a cakewalk?
I just hope you people never come close to a soup kitchen or something like that with that attitude. You would be surprised how many people look for the easy way of asking for food and a place to stay in a cold night instead of manning up by sleeping in the cold.

We have a couple guild members that have over 15k AP who have never stepped foot in fractals. AP is in no way a judge of experience or skill.

The 5k requirement does weed out many of the f2p people. But I know a few people over 10k that are HORRIBLE players.

AP points are hardly an indication of a person’s skill level.

Having an AP requirement is fairly common… but it’s also a pretty horrible way of judging someone. A person can have a high AP total and still not have a clue about how to do Fractals.

Case in point: I’ve been playing since launch, have just over 12,000 AP and I’ve done 5 Fractals.

And I don’t mean I’ve completed Fractals 5 times, I mean I’ve completed 5 individual Fractals.

Even the people who use it know it’s a ridiculous system that doesn’t actually tell them anything except that this person has been in the game longer than a month or so.

Especially considering most achievement points are gained by playing PvE, and often relatively easy PvE like exploring open-world maps and doing the story, or totally unrelated things like jumping puzzles.

If they could they’d be demanding a gear check, or DPS score or whatever else you can judge people on in other games. But they can’t so they settle for what they can judge you on. It’s the “grown up” equivalent of kids whose school brings in a uniform so they can’t judge each other on their clothes, so they judge you on your bag or where you buy your notebook instead.

And yes, even for easy content. You’ll sometimes see the same thing for story mode dungeons.

If you’re not interested in that type of elitist you’re best off just ignoring any party with an AP requirement.

You get one point the first time you do it. You don’t get a point if you do it again on another character.

I have to say that only getting a single point for all that work is a bit miserly!

Black lion weapon skins wasted

Gendou.9620

Let’s say they become far easier to obtain. What happens? Oh, they become super cheap and far, far more common? Kinda like the core skins you say nobody want to use.

Guess why nobody wants to use the core skins. Hint: b/c they are common. Take the crystalline and sephis axe skins in this game. Few use them, yet they were some of the most sought after in GW1. Why? Because they were rare in that game.

If the numbers in your post mean anything at all to me, it’s that the prices of these weapon skins being sold on the TP are far too low for 90% of them.

But they are very expensive though. Maybe you just have too much money or time on your hands.

Of 27 sets, only five have an average TP price (per weapon) of more than 200g. On a per weapon basis, that seems inexpensive to me — it’s only expensive if you’re trying to collect them all or want some of the now-retired skins.

200g is quite a bit considering that is one weapon, and buying a few more can equal a precursor price. Why does buying more equal being a collector? I have many toons who would look great from buying a few considering they use more than ONE weapon. Instead of spending gold on skins I’d rather make ascended weapons, but doesn’t that reiterate the whole subject of discussion here? There is no incentive to get the skins in general because of the time or money gate behind them, and lets be honest here—very few people will try to collect all 476 skins. Wanting to buy more than one doesn’t make you a collector. How long does it take to make 200g? You can really say it is easy, but in a game that has slow content patches it is easy to see no one really wants to farm for hours to get ONE skin. Sure some people have a lot of money and having wealth makes it easier to invest and gain more wealth, but most don’t.

You need to think objectively here and realize that these are not special skins that require huge quests to gain, or large quantities of crafting materials. They are quite frankly exclusive and with a certain amount of money(in game or real life currency) can be acquired instantly. An item of that “rarity” isn’t rare at all. I do not think exclusivity is very player friendly when it comes to black lion skins. Sure precursors are rare and can be bought instantly, but you have a means to acquire them through mystic forge, monster drops, or even achievement crafting.

Quite honestly I think it is selfish to say people are entitled to the limited skins they have gotten. What about new players? Oh sorry you can’t get fused skins unless you fork over 1000g. No one thinks these skins should be free, but the intention of them was really a money generator for Arenanet, but it has become over-saturated with the vast number of skins. How could anyone be opposed to making them more easily obtainable? Do you as a player not feel shorthanded in content? Forced to farm gold to get one measly skin? Look to the future on this— at the rate it is going there will be hundreds more. I don’t think flipping the trading post and farming for all eternity was the intention of the developers. I believe this practice really pulls away from the game and really has made a bad image for them.

Remove AP cap and retire the leaderboards. That would be the best way to handle it.

-1 I really enjoy the AP leaderboards. They keep me going every day and make me do every single precursor collection at the moment.

If anything the daily/monthly AP should be deleted. They are not remotely close to being an achievement anymore. Back in the day before the cap it took 4 hours on average to do them all.
Nowadays you spend 5min a day on a skyhammer pvp server and get free 10 AP for suiciding in mid.

If leaderboards were gone it wouldn’t be an issue, and many, like myself many will have nothing to PvP. Leaderboards are likely at the very bottom of why people come back to play the game.
How about make it option? if you choose to have the 15,000 uncapped, you don’t participate in the leaderboards. Now both sides can have their cake and eat it too.
But I’ll stick with the best option, uncap AP, eliminate the boards.

Please never remove the daily AP limit. It is an important milestone for an account and serves as an upper threshold so that new players have something attainable with immense effort so that they can compete with other older veterans on the AP leaderboard.

See, you just proved one of my points, you can NEVER compete, because they have APs from events long retired that you can never get.

Which goes to show the pointlessness of the leaderboards.

i agree with this, if i hit 15k limit and this is not changed I WILL QUIT, there will be literally NO REASON to continue playing if i cant get any more AP

And this is the other side of it. There will be some players that just stop playing when they can’t get more APs from dailies.
Since no new player can catch up to veterans (that still keep playing, and actually did the achievements for the removed content), theres no point in having the cap. And finishing the three dailies can take less than 5 minutes.

Rarity is overrated, imo. I want everyone to be able to look cool for a reasonable cost. It bums me out a little that there’s people who’ve been playing for years and can’t afford much beyond the basic skins that were available at launch.

I suppose it’s good for business, but we’ve got a ton of low-quality skins that nobody wants, and a bunch of amazing stuff that most can’t afford. The middle ground between ’em is just far too limited.

All the fights were easy enough to solo up until the Boss fight where my problems began.

I agree with Lauren on this boss fight bit. I got the boss down to 25% first try(then of course failed half dozen more times) then knocked outta air even though i was dodging it and nobody came to rez me (npc like they had before) insta death and woke up in this penalty box thing and then had to restart the fight. And this is just for STORY! you should be able to rejoin the fight where you left off. I could understand this difficulty for Achievements, but for story? really? come on.

I assume the difficulty has something to do with the mix of being able to do achievements with story but this is just crazy compared to all the other story boss fights so far in HoT. Was going along fine solo’ing everything(like how i play the game) and now will have to TRY to find others to help me finish this as i can’t do it myself. >:(

edit : the difficulty on this STORY fight doesn’t even make sense if “Flights of Fancy- 5 pts- Prerequisite: Completing the Hearts and Minds story instance once to unlock it.” is true.

Are we ever going to get more Bank Tabs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Lack of room often turns out to be more of a hoarding problem rather than a lack of slots. 360 spots in the bank + storage toons + 2000 for mats… that’s a ton of room for all sorts of things.

I’d welcome (and buy) more tabs, too. However, I recognize that’s because I keep a lot of stuff for sentimental reasons and because “one day” I might have use for things (even though in 3 years, I’ve never had a need for e.g. a mobile TP pick up NPC). I’ve kept skins that take up a slot, that I’ve never used (and can’t imagine using), because, well, why waste a transmute charge, in case I might change my mind in the next 3 years?

But I digress. The main thing is: all of us tend to keep ‘junk’ around longer than we need to.

+1 Clean and simple.

Agreed. The AP cap doesn’t serve a purpose for the population at large. And leader boards for… AP? What kind of .01%er bullkitten is that?
It only serves those with obsessive longevity and won’t ever be shaken up by game changes in the way PvP/WvW metas shift or new raids opening. The lack of any kind of reset on AP leader boards makes them worthless to anyone but the ~1000 people on the list. ..woo.

At this point, they exist by momentum, because it’d be “work” to remove them. If they’re going to “work” at something, maybe crib some notes off of Diablo 3’s season achievements. In GW2 terms, it’d be a monthly/quarterly list of achievements that become a separate source of AP and have its own leader board.
A periodic reset would make the AP game actually competitive for all players (even if I have no specific interest in it :P) and give AP hunters something to actually do while making their numbers go up.

They do make a good point about a lot of the skins being “wasted”, though. Or, rather, of questionable development value because so few wind up with them.

Personally, I’d be fine with them becoming a lot more common. I don’t care if it’s exclusive or not, just if it looks good for the character using it.

I agree with you, exclusive isn’t why I chose a skin or weapon it’s how it looks. I like the little animations from some but not all. It is a personal choice thing, not everyone has to be the “only” special snowflake with that weapon/skin…lol

You know that some of the old black lion weapon sets have disappeared from the TP so it’s really impossible to get them anymore. No matter how much money you throw you will never get them. And others, due to being non-available anymore, have heavily inflated prices.

The Fused set was never re-released to my knowledge.

After 5 years, they should be made available to buy for something like 200 to 400 gems each directly from the wardrobe based on their demand. The cheapest would be the ones less people bought, the most expensive would be the ones more people bought.

You just click the icon in the wardrobe, pay the gem price, get the skin. Ding.

Why 5 years? So people get to enjoy exclusivity for that time. 5 years is more than enough to show off a pretty skin. After that, it’s time to switch to the next model if you want to show off something, let the rest of the kids enjoy them too without having to grind keys or spend fortunes in freaking RNG key or depend on people selling them in the trading post.

exclusiveness and rareness should last FOREVER, re releasing old items is the main reason this game has not had good player retention, its impossible for me to be motivated when all i have acheived is now on sale again for some new player

You have the glory of being there first.

not enough, you will just have to content yourself with never having certain items, thats how an mmo is supposed to be.

If the item was gated by skill then I’d say yes that’s how mmos work. But even for those there are ways of making them more available. But skins that have a duration? That’s a terrible idea and in no way “how an mmo is supposed to be”.

Exclusiveness and rareness can last forever, if the method of acquisition is always the same.
