I..disagree.
This game has more non combat activities than most MMO’s imo.

Here are just some:
Jumping puzzles
Scavanger hunt achievements (karkas in LA, Gold coins in silverwastes)
Diving spots
Belchers Bluff
Costume Brawl
Daily Activities
Adventures in HOT
Guild Halls
Guild puzzle, guild race and guild trek
Festive activites like bell choir

I wouldnt mind them adding more, and some are pooly implemented but I still think theres enough things to do.

This game lacks non-fighting group content

City of Heroes tried something once where the billboards in the game could be changed with small updates, so that companies could buy advertising space on them. It’s billboards, right? They’re supposed to be ads, so it didn’t really change the feel of the game at all or really intrude. They also kept track of how many people were looking at the billboards, and for how long.

I think it went through two cycles of ads before the experiment ended. Companies decided that they just didn’t get enough bang for their advertising buck by doing it. And I very much doubt that a slightly more intrusive advertising campaign in GW2 would do any better.

Downscaling is the most stupid idea on this planet. How much more balancing does this game need?!
I should be able to kill that monster in 2 seconds.
Seriously, when I’m done with this game I’m giving it to my cousins

Downscaling was one of the major selling points for quite a few people 3 years ago. I am one of the many that likes the downscaling.

As for when you are “done with this game” ….. I have been playing since the beta / head start 3 years ago and I am not done AND they keep adding to the game (it is an MMO after all) AND they just came out with an expansion (which I have and well it is an MMO after all) so not sure when the “end” will be because I don’t want it to end as I am having way too much fun with playing.

What gear are you wearing? He might have been wearing full beserker greens. Also if he is an alt he will have experience with game mechanics and maybe know perfect rotations already for revenant through research.

Damage also greatly depends on what weapon you are using. As far as I know, the only decent power weapon for mesmer is mainhand sword, so using anything else will give you slower kills.

Remember down scaling is always in effect when you visit a map lower than your own level, so your stats will be scaled down to a lvl 11 mesmers. They also made this harsher than in the past so even if you are lvl 80, you will still feel weak(ish) on a low level map.

That is a feature that I actually like in GW2, you get leveled down in lower level maps, so if you are lvl 54 in a level 10 map, you’ll hit about the same as a lvl 10 player, maybe a bit more depending on your gear.
It would be weird if the lvl 11 caused more damage than you in a lvl 50+ map

Downscaling. Also, the revenant could have had gear that is closer to his lvl, such as lvl 13 with as much gear as possible. Your gear could have been outdated. At lvl 80 you can unlock chronomancer, which is really good for mesmer. It gives out a ton of quickness/alacrity which is really good for helping out teammates. But revenant does currently do more personal damage than chronomancer, while chronomancer buffs your teammates to do really high damage.

I’m a long term supporter of Mounts, but one thing iwll I say here about them..

At the current state of GW2, Mounts will absolutely not save this game – at all!!!

This game has way too many other problems right no, than that the addition of of mounts would change the game in any positive way – and alot of these problems are thigns, which should have been adressed by anet already years ago, but got ingored by them all the time and become only more and more of bigger problems.

This game has already such a big pile of problems that to fix them all for take years by the pace of which Anet delivers big changes to the game.

The Top 10 of this that need to receive immediately dire attention first to get finally fixed in this game to brign the game back onto its right path are following things:

1) GAME BALANCE
The game is basicaly since june 23rd totally out of control in regard of balance and Anet has nothign better to do, than to let us wait over a freaking HALF YEAR, until we will see finally again some bigger balance changes after that they forced us first to endure a long PvP seasson with all this absurdly terrible game balance around that has 2 death nerfed (Warrior/Thief) classes and 7 total overbuffed powercreepers.
The overall Game Balance is lacking right now at so many points and doing something on balance only every 3 months is non acceptable. Game Balance needs to be the overarching top 1 process that needs to be constantly running and with constantly I mean, that there needs to be balance changes every 1-2 months, not first every quarter of a year.

2) Reimplementation of Living World Season 1 under the game Design of Season 2 with own Achievements for repeating the Story Segments. Heart of thorns is out now,, so this should be now on their radar to get fixed now ASAP to make this game finally complete

3) Fixing World vs World ASAP and giving WvW finally a Reward System that is actually REWADING, and that on a equal basis to playing PvP/PvE.
From what has been heard so far, they seem to work already in the background on a bigger WvW Redesign/Overhaul.
I just hope for it, that they make also some significant changes to the new Desert Maps, so that they become more fun to play.
It was absolutely no – NOOOOO good decision by Anet to make for Desert Map absolutely no Open Beta and implementing it then into the game without getting actually enough feedback. its no miracle then, that the whole implemtnation iof the new maps totally FLOPPED, because the maps are crap and absolutely no fun at all to play on, because of the maps being way tooo big (should be like 25% smaller), way too movement stopping by its maze design, they don’t integrated gliding, in a map, where gliding would have been by the design perfect and alot of fun…
They still waste so much potential for horizontal WvW Progression by implementing something useful like class based WvW traits to give all classes in WvW actually some ROLES.
We still have sauch a ridiculous senseless rank system with 10000 ranks in a game mode, that actualyl provides only wvw character progression for roughly 1400 ranks of 10000 only, and if you have maxed out everythign, you collect tons of useless rankpoints with that you cant do anything … when there is so much potential for more useful WvW traitlines that could improve WvW significantly while giving the player the feeling of more progression.

4) Fixing PvP and overall Game Balance, by finally making for all Skills/Traits in this Game specific PVP VERSIONS, so that they finally stop ruining this ghame for many players, because they nerfed something to death for PvEers for example, because the skill change was originsally inteded to change something for PvP or WvW.
When will Anet finally realize, that they peep off everytime with these overall changes alot of players (to the point that they permanently quit the game even), when this would be so easily preventable by just making for all Game Modes, especially PvP in this case their own Skill/Trait effects to make it themself easier to balance the game modes for actually only the game modes alone, without having to fear any backlash from annoyed players that got their builds destroyed, because Anet had to chance again something without thinking even for a single second about it, what these changes might mean for consequences for other game modes ….

5) Less GRIND, Less RNG, Less sensless CLICKING FESTS
Since 3 years is Anet now paying over all, what they do make all diferent than the tons of other 0815 mmorpgs out there, how innovative they are and so on and since all this time they constantly do exactly alot of the same bullcrap mistakes in their game design, like said all other games – brief said, thigns and mechanics, that annoy players to hell – mainly grind, ridiculous RNG mechanics andpointless clicking fests – lately again 10000 alcoholic drinks where easily 2500-5000 would have been more than enough to turn wintersday not into a stupid grindfest over a title and a new skin, with other new rewards walled behind rng mechanics or crafting crind that requires again alot of luck either for the rng wall or grindign gold to buy all the stuff from greedy players that abuse this situation to make absurd profit from you whioch stands absolutely in no relation anymore…
The game has already so many things that should get reduced in their grind, rng or crazy clicking mania, it would be too much to list everythign up here now …

6) Adding finally all the announced content, that should have been in the game already from Release Date on – things like POLYMOK, BAR BRAWLS, bringing back as minigame activity ASPECT ARENA back and implement the Laberinthine Cliffs as a normal permanent explorable map also..the zephirites are basically destroyed since season 2, so there needs to be an other way to get to tha map, bringing back also MOA RACING and please, improved as an actual minigame activity, not as a stupid boring money betting mechanic wholse only purpose it is to be a money sink …
Brinking back SUPER ADVENTURE BOX and completing it with the missing worlds and letting it then stay also as permanent content once it is complete.

7) Revamping the complete Dungeon System, so that it receives at least again a unique reason for why players WANT TO PLAY THEM, if not for the gold reward, then should dungeons provide other unique rewards, that players should be able to earn only by playing the dungeons and not with PvP reward tracks, which are a reason, why dungeons are in the bad state as they are now, as alot more players would play them still, if it wouldnt be much easier to get all the dungeon skins ect. by playing pvp, which is now even more rewarding than dungeosn self…

8.) Revamping, rebalancing and improving the whole Underwater Combat System, so that it actually feels again like a valuable part of the game and not like one of this games many unwanted step child systems, that got permanently shafted and neglected, because of ANet having permanently alot of othe things in their focus – mainly living story, gemstore and e-sport, while practically ignoring mostly all the rest of the game over the last years.

9) Undoing all of the silly Visual Noise Changes, by making it a personal choice option for everyone in the graphic settings to decide personalyl for yourself, if you want to have the graphics reduced or not, and if yes, by how intensive it should be reduced and what exactly should get redcued for you/all around you in your display.
This should have been the very first thing, that should have been added very first, before ruining the game for many players with all this sudden visual noise nonsense by crippling the game graphics down to stone age level

10) More Continuity in the game Content finally !! Also Ascended Equipment must become finally again more alternative character friendly, the silly time gating needs to get removed finally. Ascended stuff is already integrated good enough in this game. There is absolutely no need anymore for all this silyl time gating.
It needs to be removed to stabilize again more the econmoy around the way too expensive ascended equipment.
The game needs more way to earn ascneded items, other than only raids, fractals, craftign or super duper rarely as loot from wvw rank rewards or boss loot chests from world bosses full of asia grinder RNG with chances lower than basically 0,00001% to get what you want to slow down the player progression in this game down into oblivion with the pure and solely intent to drive the player insane either or to force them to spent real money for gems in order to speed up the progress if possible by using huge amounts of gold …but not in all cases this is possible.
If they remove the time gatign, prices would fall a bit, but not so much, that ascended stuff would become over night super cheap, but the game would instantly make again alot more fun, if you dont get slowed down every day in making the thigns you want.

How can it be, that still until today there doesnt still yet exist not finally Jeweler 500 and Chef 500 too??? Its really ridiculous. how long does Job Level 500 already exist by now? 2 years? and you still havent managed to finally bring Jeweler and Chef on par with all the other crafting jobs Anet. Then it gets topped by Scribe, which gets also imple, mented with its incomplete Job Level 400 and is an absolutel horrible grind design which should work like all other crafting jobs too, but should be in fact only learnable simply, if you own HoT. Point No, instead they make it a guild bounded terirble 5000 gold grind rolleyes

If these 10 things woudl get fixed finally, then this game would be again on the right path and only then and first then theres time to speak about something like mounts, which would become 100% sure a gemstore only item then anyways and surely not be any game saver at all. Moneywise for Anet surely yes, for them they’d be a blessing.. but for players they are just only an optional quality of life item that doesn’t improve this game essentially at any of the core points, which need direly improvements and that QUICKLY.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Yea. It can get nasty in chat most of the time. I have never been on a map that has managed to take down even one wurm. It’s sad. Especially with what 4, masteries tied behind it?

Frankly I think Anet NEEDS to add this event to the rotation of world boss dailies. Even if you only need to get one down for credit. It would easily bring in the people needed to do at least one.

Every time I have been there I see people that didn’t even know this event exists. Adding it to the dailies would increase the player bases knowledge of the event and increase the number of players that know how to fight each one. So many people start screaming in chat about how others are “doing it wrong” in much less nicer terms. Yet will not explain the tactics required.
So, yes between the lack of players not knowing the event exists, in turn not generating enough players to support the event, and when new players come in and are at a loss at what to do, it tends to generate a toxic environment.

Having people who just shows up for the daily without bothering to learn what needs to be done is probably not going to help much if at all.

Well, its not a daily. But i hope one it will be at some point. But I’m referring to people that just show up because they were wandering by doing hearts or exploring, not even knowing the event exists as i stated above. At some point we all had to learn the fights. There was a day without youtube videos and when people would take the 2 minutes to explain it. I imagine it’s part of why they gave us apples… you know to be helpful to people new to the game or an aspect of it.

It’s a high risk, high reward skill. If you don’t need the reward in a particular instance, then yeah, stick with autoattacking to finish off a target with just a sliver of health. Gravedigger is a great skill, but don’t use it if it’s going to be overkill.

I still don’t see why to even use a greatsword. The dps meter I’ve tried

I don’t know about you but personally, I don’t give any credence to DPS meters. They’re either against the EULA, inaccurate, or both. The calculations I’ve heard from people who’ve done the math say that Gravedigger spam against targets below 50% health beats out anything else we have, so I’m inclined to trust them over a piece of dubious software that we know isn’t perfect accurate.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

I like it
/15 Enraged but colorful Charrs

Hm maybe some limit to colors for each race (and not to add electro colors, they are too bright).
- For charr – to add Only exclusive: abyss colors, glint colors + celestial, Truffle color, molten and pyre.

asura – all same colors + shiver sky, glacial teal, glacial sky

sylvary – all exclusive colors except electro (electro maybe only for body glowing)

I have already seen banana and bright red color added from very start. It doesnt mean that every character in game will be too bright. (there got to be some limits)

I like the idea mostly on equipment. On the characters I think we already have makeover kits … what I think would be nice is to be able to gain scars(toggled) or having options to apply tattoos/war marks gated behind let’s say achievements.

This can be good news… if they only overlooked it and know how to fix it then I wonder if we can get a new build with the known fix implemented within only a few hours.

How about it Anet? Can I look forward to logging in and adding one more reply to this thread to say “Thank You!” before the end of the day?

Pretty Please?

I’m assuming they were out the door the day before Christmas Eve and won’t be back until after New Years, which is right before the weekend so everyone will probably be nursing hangovers the entire time. I can’t see a hotfix earlier than next Tuesday, honestly.

Wintersday JP Issue "Blocking Progress"

Le me be clear: “Player Experience” is being ruined in the JP. The experience is great, very positive, when this issue doesn’t interfere with my progress.

Before some troll says “get good”, I have already done runs of 14… when I was on maps where no one was using a character that blocked out the sun.

It’s not QQ’ing to point out the simple fact that one cannot do a JP if they cannot see their own character. It’s basic common sense.

There are 2 solutions, one of which is definitely easy to implement:

1) Easy: Fix the existing toggle for standard character models so they work at all times, regardless of where you are in the game or what you happen go be doing. The toggle we have works in Divinity’s Reach but it’s not working in the JP for some reason.

2) Maybe? : Put all norn and char in their own instances so that no one else has to deal with having their view blocked.

We have been trying to get something done about this for three years. Enough is enough. Fix the standard model option so it works in the JP already.

Or I’ll just have to grab my own norn and ruin someone else’s experience just so that I’ll finally be able to see myself.

No, I don’t want to become part of the problem… but if Anet doesn’t fix the toggle so that standard models are used in the JP just the same way they work in DR then my only choices are to let my experience be ruined or ruin someone else’s.

I hope it doesn’t come to that.

A living, breathing, ever-changing world is an awesome concept for a game, but it’s ultimately a bit naive for a business. Sure, you make current players feel involved, but at what cost? Running your dev team ragged to hammer out content at a breakneck pace and alienating potential/returning players who missed old content?

I mean, really, if you want to grow your customer base the advertising slogan shouldn’t be “too bad, your fault for not joining earlier” or “too bad, you did join early enough but your RNG sucked and you’ll never get another chance again”.

Except for one thing. People like the OP who came in late and missed it all or people who took time off and missed it and now they’ll never get to see these events and aren’t happy about missing all the previous story lines and being cut off from them. Those of us who didn’t miss can say, “Oh, well. That’s life.” but a company needs a continuous inflow of new people to replace those who are leaving. Sooner or later the new people outnumber the vets and having the majority of your customers unhappy with being unable to do previous story content means that they are likely to stop playing and go to an MMO that does allow them to do the story line.

It was a grand experiment and I’m glad I saw it but for an MMO it’s not sustainable to cut new people off from the core of your game.

But that is what a “living” world is .. LS2 has not even earned the name, it should be
TFW2 (time frozen world) or whatever.

Its just like in the real world .. for example i saw the Grateful Dead 1982 .. but ofc
Jerry Garcia is dead, so people today can’t have that experience.
Oh .. or Frank Zappa .. also quite some time dead

This concept doesn’t actually work in a story-driven video game. It was a bad idea from the get-go, which everyone besides Anet’s management realized.

I added something after you posted so I’ll ask again.

Let’s say WoW has had the Living Story all these 10 years. If you were looking to buy an MMO would you buy WoW knowing you could not do any of the previous story lines from the old expansions for the last 10 years. That the only story line you could do was the current one and not even all of that, just what events were currently running when you started playing. Would you be happy with paying for an MMO and being cut off of all the previous content, never getting to see it or being able to learn the lore except by reading wiki or watching videos.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

What I find ridiculous myself is asking for commanders in SW. That map is so easy and self explaining that anyone who asks for commanders there should be ashamed of himself.

Yet the Indigo champion sometimes fails because people don’t know what to do.

Yet most of the events have those players that refuse to follow even the simplest orders.
It’s that guy who doesn’t stack on the commander during the Evolved Jungle Wurm fights and if the wurm charges them, it makes the event slightly more incovenient.
It’s that guy who refuses to use the appropriate skills even though it wouldn’t hurt them at all, like Warbanners for Warriors, Wall of Reflection for Guardians, conjured weapons for Elementalists etc, skills that can REALLY help in many encounters.
It’s that guy who still uses CC skills on the Chak Gerent, although map chat is full of “stop CC” because he doesn’t know how his own build work and applies random chill or cripple.
It’s that guy who destroyes the pustules during the Indigo boss of SW when the boss isn’t close.
It’s that guy who uses Light fields and covers Fire fields because it’s his cool rotation.
It’s that guy who uses full Nomad gear sits in a corner with maximum healing build always scared that they might die.
It’s that guy who fights the Legendary Wyvern and has no CC, or worse, use it before the breakbar is even active.
There are a bilion examples of bad players making events harder for no reason at all, and some times even causing failures. You are saying you don’t need a guide or special equipment, but if nobody read guides or had proper builds/equipement then those events would always fail. It might come as a surprise, but many players using the proper set-ups and builds allows those “casual” players to finish the events.

I am no fortuneteller so I can´t exactly say if raids wil have driven me out of GW2 in the next xear or so. I have no problem playing solo in HoT in general. It´s not so hard that you can´t survive if you know when to run and when to fight. Of course your results tend to be meager if you just swap along and do events here and there, but they will be there.

I have taken part in every world boss and the largest majority of world events anet offered. And yes, the large majority of them blow big time, even after they were renovated a little bit. I was also there when the taking of the temple of Balthasar was a much sought after and coveted event, Karka Queen appearing along a side of terrible settler chmapion events, when Marionette was online and Vinewrath returned as a strongly weakened Marionette clone.
Trust me when I say that you can go along fine after a while if you look in the map chat, follow orders or are on TS with the three headed worm and you just listen and know what to do. You don´t need a guide, special equipment, rotation or anything, anyone with half a brain will smell what Anet has cooked after a few tries. Nobody cares or asks for the HP of Tequatl or if he is a structure or not, this are questions that are irrelevant to a casual gamer most of the time, and that is where I like the game the most.
What I find ridiculous myself is asking for commanders in SW. That map is so easy and self explaining that anyone who asks for commanders there should be ashamed of himself.
