The bandit posters from the latest patch

You read way too into those posters. ANet isn’t trying to send subliminal messages and be PC with them, they are trying to properly set the stage for what is shaping up to be a revolt in DR with LWS3. You can’t have something like that when people aren’t feeling oppressed, it wouldn’t work.

The posters don’t make the statement that caring about history is an evil thing. The statement is that evil forces can use such sentiments as nationalism and xenophobia to try to push their agenda.

The posters are written to try to undermine Queen Jennah and her reign, so the treaty with the Charr is a legitimate target for them to take aim at, as is the centaur war, the out of control Watchwork Knights, and the pirates of Lion’s Arch.

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

Please do, and please don’t let this happen again. I’m literally begging you at this point.

If anyone recalls, I was the author of the major, old thread about Charr armor that inspired the Lion’s Arch Charr armor protests:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1isd48/i_want_to_share_the_agony_of_charr_armor_and_how/

This was nearly three years ago and the situation has barely improved. This stuff still happens. Clipping, human → Charr armor imports, sizing armors that don’t fit Charr anatomy. It’s never been rectified and it’s really distasteful to me. Reading the thread, you can understand I take this stuff pretty seriously, and while I don’t want to make another huge post here, I do want to reiterate a point I’ve made for a long time: if you don’t have the resources to treat all five races fairly, you shouldn’t have committed to making five races. Doing so is an obligation to your players, your game, and the world both are set in to create an immersive and high-quality universe. Charr deserve as much love as humans, as do every other race. I really get tired of having to bring this up because I know Anet can do better. Players have been begging for years to give Charr armor the attention it deserves. We’re not asking for every armor set to be cultural, we just want to feel like you care.

Also, at the risk of upsetting some people, please kindly ignore the players saying they like the boob plates for feminine Charr. I, and I know the original designers of the Charr would agree, are strongly considerate of the lack of sexual dimorphism in Charr – males and females tend to appear the same. Even NPCs in-game mistake them often. Charr do not make distinctions between masculinity and femininity, and would be repulsed by the idea because it individualizes a Legion-based society. Sacrificing that art direction and world building isn’t worth catering to people who want to make princesses.

Thanks.

Someone didn’t read the FAQ on P4F accounts.

A bit of research would have saved you from " looking the fool", and given your friends a better experience. All the features where heavily discussed when the P4F was launched. ANet invited everyone to try the P4F accounts. Maybe you should have done that too so you knew what your friends would encounter.

This is not ANets fault at all OP, this is all you.

Expansion not free for pre-F2P players?

Yes you’re missing something. You paid for a full version of Guild Wars 2. You can talk in map chat. You can buy and sell everything on the trading post. You have five character slots, not two. You can convert gems to gold. You don’t have the restrictions of a free to play character.

On the other hand, expansions are part and parcel of every MMO. WoW players for example pay for expansions AND play $15 a month.

I’m not sure what MMO’s you’ve played before, but they’re either pay to win, they lock professions and races and content behind micro-transaction pay walls, or they charge for expansions.

While I can empathize with a lot of the things already mentioned – map verticality, power creep (especially power creep), short lack luster story, etc…

My biggest fear is timers. More maps that are just one big event timer. Ugh.

You just hit the nail right on the head for me, I hate timers more than anything else in this game. I am considering time gates a part of that as well.

Looking back at GW1:Factions and all of the timed missions and sneering.

I didn’t mind the time missions in Factions. Its actually my favorite expansion. The difference between Factions and HoT though, is you can /resign and restart if you so desire. Or you can just play through and take as along as you want if you don’t. And you could do it any time you so choose.

With the HoT map timers, if I need to do an achievement at the start of the map or the end of a map or at a specific time, I need to watch the clock in real life, and sync up my real life with the game to be able to work on those things. I can’t do it “at my own pace” or “in my own time.” At times, I really feels like I need to make my life revolve around a game to be able to do certain things.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Making it like HoT instead of like the core game.

Funny. For me it’s making it like the core game, instead of like HoT. :P

Perhaps a compromise is in order.

Central story path is easy, but if you care to go looking for it you find challenges that are much harder?

Kinda like how some of the hardest bosses in FF games are not the end bosses, but the hidden ones you have to really look for.

if you just ask the question straight up and let us get you an answer!

I appreciate the clarification, so thank you for that.

Also—and I mean no offense—given how long it’s taken in the past to get responses from things like visual nerfs, balance issues (i.e. threads asking about thief ricochet trait went on for over a thousand posts without any response), and other important topics, it’s left many people with a cynical view toward how Anet communicates with its players/customers. So naturally, when something like this happens, it’s not unreasonable to think that this was intentional with no explanation.

People, people, people.

You have a legitimate question, all of you. But some of you are going off the rails with a really high level of snarkiness, grumpiness, and general unpleasantness.

I have asked around, and after some discussion amongst teams, we think we may understand what happened. What you want (need) to know is this: The change to the Silverwastes drops was not intentional, and it will be corrected.

If you could please avoid the name-calling and the other tin-foil hat comments, I’d appreciate it. I can get down into core issues a lot more quickly, save myself a pair of permanently-raised eyebrows, and save my team members another muttered “Oh really, you guys?” if you just ask the question straight up and let us get you an answer!

Thanks! And I’ll update when we have more info!

Smooth, some have stated that they understand that your heart is in the right place while others have claimed that constantly bringing up these “hot button” issues is only a self-serving desire. I’m not going to agree with either, but I can see the possibility of both seperately.

What happened in Orlando was tragic and many people of both the hetero and homosexual communities have been impacted by the hatred and violence surrounding it all.

As for ANet, I think that for them to take action leads to a very slippery slope. It would set a precedent for them to have to respond to every issue and every tragedy. It would lead to a perception of bias towards or discrimination against other equally important issues. And honestly, with as messed up as our real world is, they would have to spend every single moment devoting their time are resources to doing “something special” to appease everyone. If you truly want to raise in-game awareness or show support for a cause, let it fall upon the players (or yourself) to organize something. An in-game Pride march is a wonderful example.

Meanwhile, out of game, there are other ways to show your support. Donate to the Red Cross or visiting your local blood bank are notable examples. Perhaps you could organize a charity drive for the families. There’s so much that can be done to help and all it takes is a little initiative or a Google search to get involved. There are better ways to do something than asking for a symbolic item on the Gem Store.

Without straying too far into it.

Yes the attack did happen in an LGBT establishment, not just LGBT go to these bars.
It was a loss of many lives.

As many has stated, there are tragedies happening around the world. We can’t pick and choose which has more importance. If they wanted to show support, it would have happened since Pride happens every year.

And I’m with EW, I am also a gay male…It is just a very small detail of WHO I am. Such as having brown eyes. That’s the problem! People focus too much on the small details of what makes a person a person. People lost their lives due to violence, from a sick individual.

What is your biggest fears that may come with the next expansion?

For me it’s gotta be the fear of then trying to fix underwater combat and making the next elite specizalations underwater based. Just the thought scares me half to death and I’d end up leaving till the next expansion.

What about you

Think of underwater combat as a space battle the only difference is being able to go to the top of the water but deeper water u fight in every direction. I personally think underwater combat is one of the best ideas in GW2, because of that reason

I’m sorry WHAT??!! PLZ NO. core game content is literally close your eyes press 1 and win. Seriously find any regular mob, press 1 and close your eyes. The game literally wins the fight for you. How is that fun?

Some people find that more fun than actually having to fight mobs. I personally enjoy HoT maps more, now. But seeing as how I was still a relatively new player when I bought the expansion and first entered those maps I can understand why it would be off putting to a lot of players. There is just no ramp up in difficulty between central tyria and HoT difficulty. Due to people being able to faceroll mobs, up through champions, in central tyria for years, a lot of people got used to that and never learned how to properly fight mobs. Then they didn’t do so hot in HoT maps and blamed the maps’ difficulty instead of the ease of central tyria which never forced them to learn how to fight mobs. I hope that ANet learned from this, and that if LWS3 introduces new maps that will be the entry maps to the maps in the next expansion (a la Drytop and silverwastes were to HoT) that those maps will have increased difficulty compared to central tyria so the jump in difficulty between central tyria and the second expansion happens in steps instead of all at once.

Smooth Penguin, I can see that your heart is in the right place and I can’t express how much that means, but… please… stop it.

I speak solely for myself in this post; I do not have the hubris to claim to represent any portion of the LGBT community, even though I am a gay male.

Your request reminds me of the empty gestures that took place after the 9/11 attacks… the flag-waving and ‘I support the troops’ bumper stickers that were all words with little substance. I’m sorry to be so harsh, but your suggestion means little to me except the good intentions behind it.

As a son, as a brother, as an uncle, as a nephew, as a video gamer, as a board gamer, as a lover of Hemmingway, of Terry Pratchett, of Garfield, as a GW2 PvEer, lover of the Warrior profession and Charr race, as a coffee addict, cheese lover, as a former vegetarian, as a medical clinic employee, as an apartment dweller, as a college graduate, as a cat owner, and as a gay man, and as of so many other traits…. Please stop singling me out by a single facet of who I am… whether it be praise or condemnation it does not matter.

For me this is a humanities tragedy, not a LGBT tragedy. From where I stand, if you or anyone else truly wishes to take something away from this tragedy, to do something, then the best you can do is remember: We are all people, so please treat other people as you would wish to be treated. When you feel at odds with another person, try to remind yourself that they are much like you before you take any action.

To approach your fellow man as a person instead of any type of label will do more good than I think you realize. See me as a person, and not as my sexuality; see these events as a crime against people and not as against a category of people. That is what you and everyone else can do.

I need to close this post… It’s becoming difficult to hold back my tears.

Will never happen. Like user Bronze Knight said, a company can not take a political stance on things with out effecting someone else. It would actually hurt them if they started putting up rainbows all around LA or sold rainbow flags in the gem store. It wont happen and honestly it just doesn’t belong in game.

Yeah they dont belong in-game because they dont have a legendary staff that produces rainbows, and a short bow shooting unicorns, and not to mention a unicorn rainbow finisher.
Your argument is invalid.

The fact that there are rainbows and unicorns in the game probably has very little to do with LGBTQ people and more to do with the fact that lots of people just really like rainbows and unicorns.

You may be interested to know there is a player driven pride March planned for the 25th at 5pm PST (I think).
Feel free to join that if you’d like.
That being said, I think showing support and all is great, but would be in everyone’s best interest to keep these things player driven. The company can show support or even endorse such events, but would probably not benefit from doing anything official.
Reading up on your post history, I can see that this probably won’t sit well with you, as you seem to REALLY be into what people refer to as social justice (with an often unnecessary negative connotation), but you have to accept that not everyone has the same beliefs as you. And Anet probably does too. So understand that if Anet doesn’t make any official event or item, it’s not a slight against you or your views. It’s just a company doing its job and being inclusive to ALL of its customers. Not just the ones that agree with you.
Also, there’s the often brought up issue of people just wanting an “escape” in their games. So please stop assuming everyone who disagrees with you is just “hating fairness” and equality or whatever. That doesn’t help your cause. Just makes people think you just can’t handle other people’s views, which is exactly the kind of mindset that makes life hard for the LGBT community.

I’m not sure why people think negative posts are taken down when there are quite a few of them on the first page that are quite old.

I wonder how long it’ll take people to stop spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories on the forum.

At any rate, the OP’s experience is probably not typical since many have managed to buy HoT without a problem.

In game not directly, no. But, if someone did that, the chat would be logged and if someone reported them, it would be very clear to a support agent that griefing was taking place and action could be taken.

Also, in Auric, the gain would be nothing. The chances of someone turning up just to grief and not to get loot are fortunately remote in this game
