What they should do is let the Total AP remain as Daily AP + Achievement AP. The leader board should reflect Achievement AP only. Then they can remove the cap on Dailies without making it that much easier for veterans to be the ones on the leader board only just because they religiously do the dailies.
Because no AP is rewarded anymore for doing more than the required Dailies, unlike before, the cap is no longer needed to help curb the desire to do them all for those who must get every AP possible.
The only logical reason for the cap is the leader board and keeping all players at a fair chance of being first.
Yes, because obviously wasting time trying to do Mad King clocktower (when I just couldn’t do it) and trying to get crabgrabber back in the day was such a much more useful way to spend my time than playing the game.
And I’ll agree that 1Ap for getting gold in adventures is quite sad and a whopping 5AP for migraine is also.
Yes, I’ll get to 30k AP with season 3 achievements…provided they’re not all 1AP like they have been doing with the HoT achievements.
But that’s not my point. Why should someone who has been here a long time get no AP for doing dailies when someone else who hasn’t reached this arbitrary cap does get the AP? Shouldn’t the game reward loyalty to the game?
My problem after hitting the daily/monthly cap + 161 Mastery points (I don’t raid) is that there hardly is any “fun” activity left that awards you with a reminder of a steady progression, so I can work on my total APs.
Everything that is left over is “dull work” or “hard grind” or out of my hands to do alone (e.g. Shatter break bar achievement).
My XP gain feels wasted, because the game lacks a way to e.g. infuse Consumables to grant Map bonus instead of XP bonus.
Currently the game lacks the small, recurring reward for veteran players that still are there for fun stuff and have not turned the game into a job.
PS: Does a new player really expect to catch up with a 4th year veteran, knowing that there are historical achievement that will never be back? I have my doubts.
Still keeps a volume of Kurzick poems ;)
Sadly you wont get a reply from Anet on this, this topic has come up over and over again in recent months as more and more people hit the cap, the cap is stupid, and was put in because some players “felt” they had to do them, or couldn’t control themselves so we all got restricted because of it,
Anet have been asked several times to look into this, and on every topic they have ignored us, im with you on this OP I think the cap should be removed, you should not be restricted because someone picked up the game 2 years after you, or because you log in daily and others don’t,
You will hear all these excuses about old AP’s from LS1 etc but at the end of the day the gap is always going to be there, I don’t PvP so someone who does PvP will have more AP than me, but I DONT ask for Anet to cap or remove them AP’s
Caps in a game like this are bad, they serve no purpose other than to make people feel there time is not worth it in game, if the leaderboards are a problem, they should remove them, as they serve no purpose.
Anyway, I know others are in the same boat as the OP, I personally am 128 days out from the cap, when I hit it, im done with the game, there are other big games hitting the market this summer, and I already have friends that have bailed on GW2, I wont have my fun restricted in game, because of others who COULDNT control themselves and felt the need to grind out every single AP there was.
It would be great to get Anet to even acknowledge this, but don’t hold your breath, you maybe better posting it on Reddit, it seems to get noticed more there.
You did not play efficiently in regards of collecting AP if you have 9689 hours and less than 30k AP. But if you goal is just 30k AP you will easily get it without doing any of the troublesome achievements as soon as Living Story 3 starts.
I missed a bunch of the old achievements because of lack of time or I didn’t feel like doing something. I spent a lot of time doing map completion on 17 or so characters too.
You’re right about the retired achievements, but how many AP would that be (honest question)? Can it even compare to the 15k (almost 5 years) from the dailies?
It is roughly 4700AP from retired achievements. It’s quite a bit.
They should remove daily AP completly. It was a big mistake to attach AP to them.
And you should see collecting AP as an Iron Man and not a 100m race. It will take time and dedication to reach 30k. 5000 hours since release sounds about right for 30k, 32k+ will take you another 5k hours
If they removed the AP from dailies then they would need to rework either when you get achievement chests or greatly increase how much you get from doing things in game.
Time and dedication….how does 9689 hours over 1385 days sound? And I’m at 29,791 AP.
Here’s the thing, there are so many old achievements that were from events that will never happen again that a newer player will still never be able to reach where the old players are now. They missed those events and won’t ever have the opportunity to do those and those events are much more AP than 10 from doing dailies every day.
And then, what’s the point of having rewards that are so far beyond even where I am if there’s no way to reach it? Even if I did EVERY single other achievement in the game that is currently available. Gw2 efficiency says I can only reach 32,883AP.
It’s okay to have something in the game that’s indicative of how long you’ve been here and how much you’ve done.
Overwatch just came out, so a lot of the attention kitten are making vids of that to get upvotes. GW2 is alive, fine, and doing great!
Super charge x5 per day for 40% increase cost in quartz crystals.
Really though, it takes 30 days to make a celestial armor set. If you truely believe that celestial is your endgame gear, 30days of time gating is nothing.
Yea but if you just want to try it out and see how you like it then 30 days is a pretty big commitment
Tonn basically committed suicide. For a good cause, but still. The commander didn’t stop him, neither Ceera could stop him. Both feel bad about that. Powerless, unable to understand, sad and unable to forget.
In real world, that is known as the “survivor’s guilt”, and is a huge cause of family disfunction, divorces and subsequent tragedies.
The problem with Ceera is she’s too “real” for Tyria. I actually enjoy it. Being able to slap her WOULD be awesome too, IMO. More drama is always good.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

They already nerfed them once. And I still can’t get gold on most of them. But I’m terrible at them. I know I’m terrible at them. And I know this is 100% my problem. Because I find them tedious and don’t put forth the effort to get good at them, as many other people have done, I never managed to clear all of them. So i got masteries from raids instead. But my attitude toward adventures isn’t something Anet can or should fix.
To me, adventures are like jump puzzles. I hate them and I’m terrible at them, but some people are really into it. And if you’re not, there are plenty of other things to do that aren’t adventures or jump puzzles. So I’m glad they exist exactly as they are, even if I don’t personally enjoy them. They add variety to the game so it’s not all just “go here! Hit this guy a lot!”
Edit: except shooting gallery. I don’t recall a single person ever talk about that one being fair or even moderately easy to do. That one can go die in a fire.

A glance at your post history shows that pretty much every post you’ve made over the past 6 months is a link to a video you’ve posted on youtube. So, you do self-promote pretty hard. You’re completely free to do that, though. I just won’t personally contribute to the viewer count.
This.
Now granted you at least put some effort into disguising your selfpromotion TC, but don’t pretend it’s not just that.
When 29 out of 50 recent posts contain a link to your youtube page, then that is pure selfpromotion. Especially when most of the remaining posts are answers in the same threads.
Firstly there are always going to be a couple of bad apples in any game mode, especially one which has a higher chance of failure.
However, assuming this was a training raid (otherwise I don’t know why they picked you up), you would be surprised at the degree of variance between player skill and knowledge who want to try and have never tried before. You legitimately will get many many people who have not watched or read anything, do not even know what toughness is or crowd control or what half their skills do and generally are not at the standard to be doing T3 fractals let alone raids. These people make it nearly impossible to teach the players who genuinely are at end-game level knowledge without the experience in raids and essentially ruin the experience for everyone. My guess is that the leader of your training run was dealing with many people like this and snapped eventually.
We are all humans at the end of the day and repeatedly getting your training runs for end game content sabotaged by players who haven’t taken the time to go through the basics of the game can be frustrating (some people cannot control their frustration as well as others). Of course I don’t advocating slandering people but at least it was done to vent without them hearing it which is not so bad, surely you have vented about people in game or in life.

I enjoyed reading your post, and I agree that some people need an attitude adjustment. But I’m not going to watch your video because I’m petty and don’t like self-promotion disguised as a topic for discussion.
No guilds? Look around you in any large group. Every single person you see with letters in brackets after their name is in a guild. I’m more surprised when I see a green name without a guild tag after it.
I’m now sort of wondering where the “guild” and “wars” comes from in “Guild Wars”… After all, it feels like the game, while being an MMO with plenty of gaming options, is more focused around the personal and living story, with WvW (the only real time you can have guilds fighting against each other) being an option for competitive players. But even then, doesn’t feel like a “war”. And there are no guilds in the story at war with each other. I only see factions, not guilds, and they are at war with the dragons and their minions. So…yeah, confused.
Never played the original Guild Wars, so how accurate to the title was that game?
What EW said above, basically. In GW1 lore there were Guilds that were groups brought together with a common purpose, and THE Guild Wars were basically different skirmishes throughout Tyrian history that affected said history. Guild Wars 1 also had player guilds, which served the traditional purpose of guilds in games, plus having guild pvp stuffs.

No guilds
Bunches of lots of guilds. Almost everyone in game that you’ll meet is in a guild.
and no wars …
The Elder Dragons. That’s your war. It’s an existential one, no less. Guilds. War. Guild Wars. Guild Wars 2.
what am I missing
Probably the shift in direction from the first game being largely about factions and guilds fighting one and other towards more an effort to fighting against apocalyptic genocide by these nigh forces of nature that don’t care about the world around them and are hungry for some yummy magics.
Though guilds still regularly compete against one and other in PvP and WvW.
I have about 3 years total into playing GW2. Used to play WoW.
I think GW2 overall is a great game but I often feel like some big things are missing.
Maybe it’s me, curious on your thoughts and experiences …
- No guilds : There don’t seem to be a lot of guilds in Guild Wars! WoW seemed to have more guilds that were larger and better established.
There are certainly large guilds. I personally have no interest in any of them.
- No socializing : Maybe I’m jaded but back in the day, say 2007 in WoW, I seem to meet people (in fact still in touch with some) and interact. In GW2 I am only interacting with my real life friend who plays. I don’t see a lot of chatting either.
GW2 is not responsible for your friends’ or anyone else’s behavior.
- No wars : Well there is WvWvW but that seems like a lot of map and not a lot of activity. Granted I haven’t spent a lot of time there and I know there is a lot of potential but I don’t get that epic feeling of a large battle.
Too big …
- Battle Grounds too small : Now I like the structured PVP mind you but I hate how it only has 4v4. I miss the BGs in WoW, not only were they well designed but they had variety from small groups up to 40 man groups in Alterac Valley
Too small …
What am I missing?
Being able to make up your mind?
- No danger : Related to above with no factions and no PVP server option (i.e. PVP all over not just designated zones) it feels like there is never the fear of people ganked out in the wild.
Well let that be a lesson to you. Do a little more research on a game before buying rather than just rely on the name.
- No guilds : There don’t seem to be a lot of guilds in Guild Wars! WoW seemed to have more guilds that were larger and better established.
I’ve been in a guild for a few years now. I see dozens of guild recruitment messages every day. There are even some guilds that started out in GW1 and continued into GW2. Guilds are there if you actually are looking.
- No socializing : Maybe I’m jaded but back in the day, say 2007 in WoW, I seem to meet people (in fact still in touch with some) and interact. In GW2 I am only interacting with my real life friend who plays. I don’t see a lot of chatting either.
That’s not been my experience. I interact with lots of people (guildies and strangers, alike) every day just by doing my daily achievements and Fractals/dungeon runs. Sometimes things are quiet in map chat, but sometimes they’re not. Plus, you also have guild chat (if you’re in a guild) and party chat/squad chat for your group content.
- No wars : Well there is WvWvW but that seems like a lot of map and not a lot of activity. Granted I haven’t spent a lot of time there and I know there is a lot of potential but I don’t get that epic feeling of a large battle.
Your wvw experience will vary depending on your server size and the amount of players in your time zone. But, as you said, you haven’t spent a lot of time there to really get a feel for it. Maybe give it a few more goes; Eternal Battlegrounds is usually the most active map for wvw action.
- No danger : Related to above with no factions and no PVP server option (i.e. PVP all over not just designated zones) it feels like there is never the fear of people ganked out in the wild.
You say this like it’s a bad thing. The lack of open world pvp is a big plus for many, many players. Obviously some people prefer having open world pvp, and they’re welcome to enjoy what they enjoy. Just don’t expect it to really become a thing in GW2.
All in all, it doesn’t sound like you’re “missing” anything. You’re just not used to the differences between GW2 and WoW (or many other MMOs). Given more playtime and trying new approaches, you might come to like GW2, or you may find it really just isn’t for you. The only way to find out is to play more, reach out to other players, reach out to guilds (if you’re interested in being in one), and see what you think about it all.

You must have map chat disabled or something. I usually see tons of socializing going on and I see lots of different guilds doing stuff (looking for new members, doing events, etc.) in map chat. Hell just a little while ago I was having a nice conversation with some people about politics and anime.
