Have you ever consider the option there is actually no rating and ANET is fooling you? No visible rating for us = no rating at all imo. Give us visible ratings and I will trust you ANET till then i dont simply believe you there is some matchmaking
I’m guessing we’re stuck with these RNG boxes. If that is the case, I’d like to see the odds of getting a rare weapon skin voucher. It’s not good enough to say you have a “rare” chance. What is rare? Rare as hen’s teeth? Rare like a steak?
If you insist on these RNG boxes, let’s be transparent about it. Let people know what their odds are, so at least they can make an intelligent decision about whether or not they wish to participate.
They don’t need resilience, they need to start over.
Every time the developers say this phrase I cringe and die a little on the inside. How on Earth is the beta test a good gauge of effectiveness and viability? Sure, there are some rudimentary things you can iron out such as gameplay fluidity (clones dying in literally one hit for example) but when it comes to balance, we should stop referring to things tried out in beta.
What happened in beta was a whole mass of people (not even seasoned mmo pvp players, just normal people) jumped into this brand new game and rolled around on their keys. This complete lack of skill on the playing field made some things seemingly OP. The most classic example would be the Bullsrush-100b combo. I’m sure nobody with even a lick of skill will say that any more now, 10 months after release, right?
I propose that we (devs included) please stop referring to beta when we speak of balance.
Not until you make an official statement that you have plans to never sell RNG items in the cash shop again or to make the ridiculous 1% go up by quite a lot. I have been an avid supporter of yours since GW1 and love GW2. I remember all the promises to keep the cash shop reasonable. You lied. RNG items in a cash shop is no way “reasonable.” I am boycotting your cash shop as of now. Congrats for one more kitten ed off and betrayed feeling player, and all because you decided to get greedy.
Out of all the posts in professions section, warrior section is the only section where people are endlessly posting their ideas to replace/improve the existing skills sets they are given because of how lackluster their class is compared to every single other class.
There is so much doom and gloom its just mind blogging, I made sure to check necromancer’s section too and necros could use help for sure but aren’t in anywhere near the sad state as warriors.
There is a classes which are poor/strong in certain areas and classes like warrior who are the laughing stock of the entire sPvP community that even the dev themselves laugh and are widely known as a “free kill”. I’ll keep playing warrior because I find it entertaining when I pummel the lesser skilled players in a 1v1 as a warrior.
Warriors aren’t even viable and yet you want them to refocus their attention on extra builds for classes that are already at the top of the food chain… lets at least get every class 1 viable tPvP build.
yea if that goes through pretty big nerf to warriors
Until we see the actual in game changes on the hero panel it is absolutely pointless to talk about. In fact we should expect nothing more than general stat boosts because that has been the trend so far.
Not even a week in and im 90% certain iv wasted money on this game.
Being an avid GW1 player for many years, achieving GWAMM and the 50/50 hall i loved guild wars. But this is not guild wars. Before a little flame let me just say i completely understand the point of a game needing to evolve to keep up with modern tech and competitors and that this subject has probably been covered hundreds of times (but iv only just got the game so its new to me)
But, the creators and developers should be ashamed of themselves with this installment. Completely left the roots of the original GW and became drinking buddies with the guys over at blizzard.
1. It’s just a WoW re brand job
2. what is with the viewpoint areas in the map? did i buy assassins creed?
3. there is zero point in choosing a profession based on how that profession helps a party, seeing as they have scrapped that idea and gone with “every prof can do anything” idea.
4. i understand its a fantasy game but when have rangers used great swords? and elementalists used daggers? in any form of fantasy rpg? takes the point out of choosing a ranger for his bow and an ele for his backline nuking skills.
5. no monks? Understandably with the way gw2 plays now you cant monk seeing as its basically you alone against the world most of the time. Might be hard for the non monkers to understand but some players liked being dedicated healers, something slightly satisfying knowing you have kept your team from wiping.
It just seems the dev’s thought “what should we do? expand on our soaring success of GW1 or should we cash in, make a 2nd rate WoW and buy that dream holiday home in the Caribbean we want?”
Why fix something thats not broken? all GW1 needed was better graphics, playable asura/sylvari etc.. new big map/storyline (maybe a level cap increase) but thats about it.
Oh look, a thinly veiled anti-skipping thread.
Skipping is not an exploit, your argument is invalid.
Give us MWF quality trash and we won’t skip.
Just a quick update, I want to be thorough, so it will be a couple more hours before I have anything to say.
There are 2 options to be taken from John’s response in my view:
1. The drop rate shouldn’t have changed so it’s a bug.
2. NCSoft wanted more gem sales by nerfing ecto drops, I better get PR advice on what to say.I hope it’s number 1.
But more than likely number 2…
There are two people that I know don’t mince words or sugar coat things using marketing strategy. John is one, Gaile is another. I have full faith that his research will give us insight on the issue one way or another. They are like the Gordon Ramsays of GW2, minus the bad words. That would be a lot of kittens.

The “changes” to mesmer GS#2 and #4 weren’t in the patch notes, either.
Just to be clear, Anet doesn’t have to publish everything in the patch notes, They owe us nothing, we agreed to their terms and they are beholden to NcSoft, so they can say whatever they want us to hear
They don’t have to no, but if/when we find things not listed that affect the game it ruins credibility. That’s a no-no and business 101. Not saying that is what this is, but there is missing notes.

Honestly, who didn’t see this coming?
Thanks Regina.
So, nothing was changed ‘intentionally,’ but there might have been a bug introduced with other changes. Is this something one of the devs could look into for us? Since it seems a lot of people feel something is off. Just some type of confirmation that everything is working as intended would be great.
Changes to important things like salvage rates would be listed in the update notes if they have changed. If it’s not in the update notes, then no changes have been made by the development team.
That seems carefully worded to not really address the concerns expressed in this thread.
Actually marketing and choice of words are perfect, it’s called misleading.
Misleading marketing is only good for so long, and usually only for a small one time product. In a long term, long goal company journey 1 misleading step after another turns into ::Aion:: cough.. I mean a bad direction.

On topic: Nice post, well written and thought out
Off topic: Hope you have flame resistant undergarments on.
Upon pressing (Edit) I quickly retired to my bomb shelter :P I just want people to know I’m not one to agree with everything, or say that anyone is perfect. But I think the disconnects need to be addressed, and I think we as customers deserve that.

Actually marketing and choice of words are perfect, it’s called misleading.
Part 1
Let me start by saying this isn’t a “I know better than you, do it my way” thread. I would like to discuss some problems currently with the relationship between Customers, Arenanet, Marketing, and NCsoft.
There seems to be a large disconnect between all 4 sections of the business. In order to keep things clear and legible I will attempt to address them one by one.
Customer>Arenanet: As customers we value a business that serves us well, supports us and is open about their actions. Most times as a customer we generally receive good feedback, some examples:
Devs/designers/leads posting directly to us one on one.
Customer service fixing errors in accounts, fixing many bugs, and improving the game.
Devs and designers continually pushing out content.
There is much more.
The disconnect here is when Arenanet has patches, updates, changes, and they are not clearly written in patch notes. Either information is missing, or information in patches can be wrong at times. Now we are smart enough to know not everyone is perfect, but we expect a certain degree of integrity and clarity when it comes to changing a product. We also understand there is no perfect game or service, and unintended bugs will happen. But what we truly need here is a check, a double check, and for someone/some group to read off the notes back to those who affected the changes. When devs and designers have lists of things they changed, they deserve getting credit for such.
By leaving out this information its almost discounting their efforts, which we as customers greatly appreciate. If it is a negative effect on many players we would rather know the truth than have to do extensive testing to ensure our game provider is on the level. Ignoring marketing and parent companies, we are the first group of people to experience your product. We deserve the full information, an open dialogue between us, as we are the most vital part of the company. (Some may read that sentence wrong, I am speaking financially and as the core of the game. Obviously the company itself is very important.)
Next I’d like to address Arenanet>Marketing. For some time now there has been many slip ups when Arenanet staff are told to say something by marketing or even perhaps NCsoft. Often times it was a poorly worded, poorly constructed form of advertising. We know not everything said comes from the minds of devs and designers and leads. We know marketing is a vital aspect of any company. But when people who are not gamers, do not have experience as gamers do, make claims they do not understand it makes Arenanet and by proxy NCsoft sound bad. We know it is an unintended affect, but there needs to be a fix before more credibility is lost. An example is “expansion worth of content”, this has been discussed largely and I won’t go into it. Secondly, you may have heard the recent “dungeon” was even discredited by those who created it.
Calling it “more of a boss instance” which is far more accurate. i don’t mean to be blunt but sometimes you need to turn off your marketing/advertising peoples voice. Let the devs talk among each other and call it what they feel we will be comfortable with. Don’t call a small update an expansion. All of you at Arenanet are gamers, you love games just as we do. And you deserve to call things what they are, not be foot in mouthed by a marketing team. It takes away credibility, our trust in you as a gaming company when marketing or a parent company tells you what to say or do. You know how to be successful, you don’t need a marketing department to tell us gamers what a dungeon is or is not. You don’t need to let them put words in your mouth that you later have to retract and apologize for. We are far more understanding if Colin says “I made a mistake, I apologize, this is what we meant”, than if he says “marketing told us to say it, we were wrong, sorry”. It is pointing blame, and even if it is rightfully so, we would rather you all could make your own mistakes than take our complaints directly as a result of a 3rd party interfering.

Part 2
Finally, to keep this post under 10 pages :P I will address Arenanet>Marketing>NCsoft. There is a clear disconnect here when many players are complaining about RNG boxes, about expansions coming then not coming, then maybe coming, then we don’t know? It is understandable that NCsoft does own Arenanet, and that they do have say in what happens. But for them to “bully” out an expansion by tossing marketing at you seems very low. It only makes us the customers more wary of our dealings with Arenanet and NCsoft. Those at Arenanet have built a game, it has been widely enjoyed and praised by many people and companies. NCsoft needs to realize this and let you do your thing. They DO have failing games, and GW2 is not one of them. I find it appalling that the large sums of money I have spent in GW2 goes to games I directly disapprove of. You deserve every penny, and though I know that’s not possible in a business sense, it is still my wish. Marketing and advertising should never run a game. The developers at Arenanet know what is good for GW2, they know what innovations can make the game better. They don’t need to be bullied into pushing out content that simply isn’t ready. Again it comes down to credibility.
To sum it up, players would like more clarification on what “general” statements truly mean in patches. Players would like news from the horses mouth, not from a firm or from a parent company. Arenanet needs to be allowed to do what they do best, and that is design GW2. Patch notes need to be clear and complete every time, slip ups happen, but there shouldn’t be a page of missing notes added weeks later. I use the term “we” many times in this post and I want to clarify I do not speak for every gamer here. But I feel “we” is a good representation of a majority of players who would agree with what I have explained. I hope we can see a more clear, more focused, less confusing game/community/company once the lesson is learned that this current random direction is not the best for the game. Thank you for your time and sorry the post dragged on so long.

When I see the necro forums all I see is “rabble rabble rabble rabble”!!!
I can hardly blame people on these forums when they do this. Its absolutely appauling how this class got a massive jack hammer nerf at launch and then dumped on the side of the road. Every patch is nothing but stupid tool tip bug fixes for necromancers. I think most of us have been extremely patient with ANet up to this point.
Remember when the thief trait Hidden Killer got bugged and thieves could no longer 100% critical backstab out of stealth? That got hot fixed almost immediately.
Necro 1/3rd downed health bug has been in effect since beta, still a problem. The Reaper’s Touch trait bug has been in effect since beta, still bugged. They just NOW fixed the Greater Marks size bug, but they broke something else in the process, so who knows how long that will take to fix. Flesh Golem still hasn’t learned to swim. Our cast times are still out of balance with the rest of the classes. Our trait tree is still a jumbled mess. We still have ridiculous cool downs on a lot of our abilities by comparison to other classes. Axe is still really, REALLY bad as a weapon. Minion AI is still very problematic. Nothing has been addressed about our lack of attrition that ANet seems to think we have. Our “access to poison” is still pretty terrible. 25 bleed cap is very much still a problem. The absurd amount of condition cleansing in PvP and necromancers inability to cover their bleed stack is still problematic for necromancers.
You’ll have to forgive some of us if we seem a little… upset. Its been 9 months now. Some of us actually had some hope that ANet was going to do the right thing here.

based on what I saw with the reduced hp in downed, you first need to do a video recording before they are willing to acknowledge there is a bug. Maybe with it being right after the patch it will be different but if there is no response regarding this subject….this is probably why lol

We’re not allowed to get anything useful out of our Karma. Didn’t you get the memo?
Make it karma based. Moving along!
+1 I have a lot of badges and karma from playing WvW, but no laurels.
WvW players don’t have any laurels at all.
By making it require laurels, you are requiring the WvW player to do extensive PvE just to get any ascended equipment.
Please reconsider.
