Tyrian Politics & Guildhalls: A Lengthy Proposal

in Suggestions

Roven Leafsong.8917

Hello all,

I’d like to make a suggestion for a new system of guild interaction that I hope would provide more of a high level player-driven story to this already wonderful game. With any luck it might also help to get the guild wars back into Guild Wars 2, which is a good thing!

TL;DR – Guilds can buy guildhalls and align to one of the five racial cities; guilds compete politically to form governments in their cities and get city-wide boons, and guilds compete with each other to take over towns and settlements for territorial control.

GUILDHALLS
When a guild has purchased the highest tier of the politics upgrade, they may apply to any of the capital cities (excluding Lion’s Arch) for a deed to their own guildhall within the city bounds. There may be a few different guildhall types available in each city, offering cosmetic differences in style. Each guild would only be able to own one guildhall at a time, and would only participate in politics on the home server of that guild (or independently on each server with members), but the choice would be important and align the guild as a whole to their chosen homeland.

Cost:

  • Guild Gold/Influence: Purchasing a guildhall would consume a certain amount of gold (with a percentage going into that city’s coffers), and a certain amount of guild influence (again with a certain amount going into that city’s influence pool).

Benefits:

  • Free Waypoint: An immediate advantage of belonging to a guild with a guildhall is that members would receive a free waypoint that instantly returns them to their guildhall from anywhere in Tyria (perhaps with each character able to use a guildhall waypoint once every 15 minutes).
  • Customisation: Guildhall instances can also be further customised by the guild through purchasing additional upgrades such as vendors, crafting stations, dueling arenas and so on, and I would suggest that each guildhall upgrade be able to be purchased from the city for a combination of gold and influence.
  • Communal space & visitor fees: Guildhalls would be able to be set as private or public, allowing only guildmembers to visit the guildhall instance in the first case, or anyone to visit in the second. A list of all public guildhalls would be accessible through an NPC in each city, and may cost a token amount of silver that would go into the guild coffers.
  • Bulletin Board access: Guildhalls would be able to purchase a Delegate NPC upgrade, which would allow guild members to write posts to their city’s forum board (costing a large fee to prevent spamming). All other players would be able to read this board from within the city, and it acts as a mechanism for political campaigning, debate, or notices.
  • Voting rights: Once a guildhall has been purchased, that guild has a single vote in any referendums or elections held in the city once they have reached a certain loyalty score (designed to prevent farming of political influence across multiple guilds).
  • City boons: Guild members would also receive certain minor bonuses as determined by their city’s performance and government (see Government section below).

City Loyalty:

  • Score shown in guild panel: Once a guild has chosen to align with a particular city and place their guildhall, they are assigned a City Loyalty Score which represents their contributions to the city, and is displayed in their guild information window.
  • Reset monthly: The City Loyalty Score is reset every month, and guild members may only increase the score of the guild they are currently representing. A log tracks total loyalty over time, but only the monthly score counts for politics purposes.
  • Rewards participation: Actions which improve your guild’s City Loyalty Score could include:
    • Contributing to the Conquest or Persuasion of settlements (see Settlements section below);
    • Contributing gold to the city coffers directly through donations (which requires phenomenal amounts of gold to raise loyalty by very much);
    • Participating in city cultural events (see Government section below);
    • Winning renown for the city in PvP or WvW tournaments; and
    • Participating as mentors for new players (which is a hardcoded ‘mentor’ role assigned to a new player of the same profession who has not had a mentor before on any character upon concluding the tutorial, and can be rejected by the new player)
  • A guild’s City Loyalty Score must be raised above a certain minimum amount before they may vote in elections/referendums
  • Determines city Top Guilds: At the end of the month, the top ten guilds with the highest City Loyalty Score are selected to form the High Guilds of that city for the following month.

"Defend your Home" single-encounter dungeon

in Suggestions

Posted by: DreamOfACure.4382

DreamOfACure.4382

Because I would like to see that home instance thing put to use beyond Personal Story.

Basic Points

  1. The dungeon scales difficulty from 1 to 5 players (Solo-friendly and group-friendly too)
  2. It can only be entered after you’ve completed the Personal Story
  3. Diminishing returns apply to it like any other dungeon. (So, it’s not farmable)
  4. Only once chance per fight-
-If your entire party is defeated, a cutscene will occur and your party will be removed from the dungeon.
Diminishing returns won’t be applied, but you’ll have to wait a while before you can challenge that particular boss again. This solidifies the feeling of defeat and separates the experience from the usual ‘res and try again’ style of normal dungeons.

The Set Up

When you enter for the dungeon, you and your group gather in front of your NPC friends and they greet you.
An enemy appears and you must defeat it, or an ally appears and offers to spar with you.

Potential Enemies

  • A Dragon Champion (weaker then average)
  • Faolain
  • Kudu
  • Gaheron’s ghost
  • An Eye/Mouth of Zhaitan (obviously there for revenge)

Potential Allies to Spar

  • Logan
  • Rytlock
  • Zojja and Mr. Sparkles (together)
  • Trahearne (I know you all would play just to get a crack at him~)

Finer Details

-Each boss would have at least slightly distinctive and different mechanics to keep the fight fresh.

-They would all have mechanics to keep players from just sitting and auto-attacking like… deadly AoEs, classic pull+KO combos, teleports, etc..

Some enemies/allies would be unique to a city. Examples below:

Divinity’s Reach

  • Countess Anise

Black Citadel

  • King Adelburn (with new combat style compared to AC Story)

The Grove

  • The Pale Tree (spar with the mother tree!)

The fights would be designed to be tougher then normal dungeons since there isn’t anything standing between you and the “end boss”

The random encounters would keeping it fresh and fun, and give players a reason to gather at the five major cities.

If there are tokens being rewarded (idk if that’s necessary), any sort of reward vendor should be in the respective major city, not in Lion’s Arch.
Possibly make Cultural Armor vendors sell their gear for either gold or the new home-instance reward tokens.

To sum it up, it’d be like an arcade game.
Go in, exchange some witty banter, fight a random but familiar boss, win/lose, get out.

“Bleeding, Poison, Confusion, Torment, they all look delightful on you.”

being a hero doesn’t mean strutting around in your shiniest gear never getting a spot of dirt on it except when facing a dragon solo in which it would give up based on the shininess of your gear.

really, being a hero(especially one of the common people) usually means connecting with the common people on every level of their lives. so what if you have to go plugging holes in a leaky pipe? you just saved a town’s water supply and their agriculture.

so what if you have to go rounding up cows to put back in their pens? that’s less time a farmer has to spend chasing runaways instead of growing crops to feed his family

lastly, didn’t you ever watch Hercules? being a hero doesn’t mean only doing the best things. it means doing your best at any given task.

While I’d love to have some of the other races cultural armors on some of my characters… I have to disagree with making them available for all races.

To start with, a few of the Norn Cultural armors would be inappropriate on Asura and Charr, who’s Females both wear Male armor… The styling of the Charr and Asura armor’s don’t quite mesh with the other races really either…

However… I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing the cultural vendors selling cultural style armors tailored to the other races… Armors designed for the other races but with elements that display the culture of the race that created it… Like the Norn Armor sets from GW1 being used as Norn Cultural for Human… ect…

Recently I wrote to Anet to thank them, and I feel like I can share it with the rest of you. I hope you appreciate the game as much as I do:
————————————————————————————————-

I wanted to take a moment of my time to thank you. Please don’t chalk
this up as another compliment to you guys and that’s that. No. I can
honestly say that you guys saved my life. Without knowing it. I know
it seems crazy, but it’s true. I’m a father of 2, married and going to
school. I was in the military and suffer from PTSD and major depressive
disorder. It’s really hard going through my daily life, even the
simplest of things are hard to do. I enjoyed playing other MMOs for a
little while, but it didn’t really help me. I needed a distraction, but
one that I could play as a casual gamer and didn’t have to dedicate my
life to. This game is the perfect solution. I can group with people,
but I’m not forced to. There is rarely any extra benefit from
grouping. I can craft and it doesn’t take hours and hours and take up
all my bag space. I can jump on for a half hour and feel like I was
able to do something productive. I can participate in huge events
without having to farm reputation or farm gear that seems more like work
than a game. I actually enjoy the PvP environment and the WvW concept
it brilliant. Thank you. It’s still hard going day to day with my
struggles, but this game has provided an adequate distraction. One I’ve
been longing for for a very long time. I can’t promise I’ll be able to
spend a lot of money on gems to support you, but I’ll do what I can when
I can. I can’t promise that I’ll always be around in-game (though it’s
possible), but I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for,
at the very least, getting me through right now. Life’s been rough and
GW2 is a beautiful distraction and outlet. God bless your team.

  • And thanks to all the other players out there, especially my guild [SE] for being so supportive, keeping a good sense of humor and making the game just so kitten fun to play.

Thank you Anet

Greetings,

If you read or post on our official forums, you may have noticed the +1 button next to each post. Recently, we have updated this system with more features and visibility for you, the players. You can find the full forum update notes here. This post is to familiarize you all with the new features in our +1 system and how they affect you.

Added a link to user profile pages which shows posts that a user has +1’d, ordered such that top-most is the most recent

Added a link to user profiles to show highly rated posts ordered descending by score

When visiting a user’s profile page, you can view all posts that user has +1’d starting with the most recent, or see all of their own posts that have been +1’d by others sorted descending by score.

Both of these options are opt-in, because we respect your privacy and don’t want to force you into sharing information you are not comfortable with sharing. As such, you may not see these links in other user profile pages immediately. You will always see these links on your own page, regardless of your settings.

To allow others to view these pages on your own profile, click on your display name in the upper right of the forum, then on the following page, click “Edit Profile”, check the last two boxes and click “Save changes”.

Popularity is divided between popular and very popular as well as per-thread and forum-wide

What this means is that there are two levels of popularity, categorized “popular” and “very popular”. Currently these are indicated by a thumbs-up icon that appears next to the +1 button. If a post is very popular, the thumbs-up earns a star that appears within said icon.
Our future plans include updating these indicators to something more visually striking. Until then, this is how you will know if a post has achieved popular status.

There are also two levels in which posts are gauged for popularity, on a per-thread basis and forum-wide. Forum-wide popularity takes into account +1s from within a set time period across the forum. Per-thread popularity takes into account all +1s in a thread. Visually, a forum-wide popular post will have a red underline beneath the thumbs-up icon.

Over the next few weeks, we will monitor thresholds against post-scores and make adjustments as we see is necessary to ensure accurate display of popularity indicators. Going forward, if you read a post and like it, press that +1 button. It’s how you let us, and other players, know that you liked what you read.

A nice message to those opposed to dailies

in Suggestions

iSmack.1768

I do like the fact that they added new dailies in the rotation but 2 of them create an issue that plagues most other MMOs and GW2 did right, till now.

Dodger and Healer dailies are slowly creating Competitive PvE, which was something that was abolished from Day1 in GW2.

I personally don’t have an issue getting these accomplished. There’s a certain spot I go where I can complete Dodger/Healer and an Event in 1 shot.

The Competitive PvE comes into play in the lower levels, where some level 80s lurk around to do their dailies. Just yesterday I was playing on my level 5 alt where I was killing centaurs to complete the heart quest. So I see one running away from 2 players, so I engage and kill it. One of them starts blasting me with profanity cause they were using that Centaur to complete their dailies.

As for the healer daily, at some point I forgot I was on my alt and it can’t take on a vet + several of it’s minions and well, I died. So here comes a little friend to fondle me back to life. Half-way through ressing, he stop and says: “Hold on, I have friends coming to res you as well for daily” so here I am, on the ground waiting for a party of 5 to come to res. At first I didn’t think much of it, but it was taking a while, so i just WP-ed. As you’d guess, they went apekitten over it and started arguing over it.

Another issue this is bring up is that sometimes people let others die so they can res them for the daily, whereas before, they’d step in and help the weaker one.

None of this would happen before the introduction of these 2 dailies, now it’s gonna start to create a weird experience in a game that had gotten rid of competitive PvE.

That being said, I really like the new Laurel system, it’s not hard. The prices are just right. This is an MMO after all. There needs to be a balance between time to acquire an item and effort put into it. I personally think it’s quite balanced.

While I don’t mind going to the character selection screen for playing another character, I think it could be an interesting and convenient solution if we could change the characters from inside the game.

On the top left of the screen, where the many white icons are, there can be added a new icon “Character select” which will open a window where you can see all your characters in the account – list, grid, thumbnails etc.
In the window, you can access different information about all your characters and you can select any of them “on the fly” without going all the time to the selection screen.
The same window can be used to unlock a new character slot similar to bank tabs and inventory bag slots.

Viewing different information about your characters will make it easier to know when you found a new armor piece or weapon that if it will fit another character.
Also, through this window you can equip different characters without using the bank storage

Color blind gamer: Issues seeing red circles

Hello

I realize this has been mentioned before, but it can not be stressed enough:

There needs to be an option ingame to change the red circle to another basic color. White, Black, Red, Blue, and Yellow would be enough in my opinion.

The reason of course is colorblindness. Myself and others have major issues with the red circle on many textures. It is also so feint that I have to focus on the ground instead of the boss to stay alive. This is twice as bad when the boss uses both circles and visual cues.

Keep in mind I am a decent player, I have Dungeon Master, so I am not asking for this option as a sort of crutch. It simply NEEDS to be added with priority.

Please, I am almost begging at this point. Add this accessibility option.

From zero to hero with just one click

in Suggestions

Hello.

Guild Wars 2 is one of a few games that promote supporting other players. There are many way that your character can support others. At least when you’ve prepared it only or that.
When I play PvE and go solo, my build is egoistic and self-centered. When supporting group (guild or even other players on map), not only my armor and weapon are not adjusted to become “helping hand”, also my traits should be changed. Switching armor, jewelry, skills and weapons isn’t as time-consuming as going to trainer to ask him to retrain traits, click proper ones, and move back to the original waypoint and find the group that I wanted to support. They’re already dead? They moved tired of waiting? No problem, I’ll just switch set again, go to retrain traits…
But what if there was possibility to become supporter with just one click?
If you’d click and in short time your character would change build to predefined by you, support build? You could quickly jump into action, without necessity of people waiting.
Also, when someone’s asking you “would you go to dungeon”, it would greatly improve the pace you’re ready to support your group.
The system could work similar to already existing “town clothing”: on hero panel, you’d choose “switch to another set”.
Benefits:
• Quick possibility to adjust to situation (solo/team play)
• Seems to be easy to implement (set and weapon switch already exist, reverting to remembered traits shouldn’t be too much of a problem)
• Possibility of introducing new tactics (connected to switching build and skills)

Proposed restrictions:
• Cooldown 30 minutes
• switching time: 15 seconds, interrupted on any damage taken
• No switching in WvW/PvP (or maybe? )
I was wondering if that should be something that you could buy for gems, but as it’s something that should help others, making people work long time for this, wouldn’t seem good.
Still, switch by itself could be free if using items from your inventory, additional tab with weapon, jewelry and armor set (something like existing “town clothing” ) could be tradable for gems as something extra – additional deposit place.

Hope you like the idea

I agree with this. The debate over revealing female armor has been raging on these forums. The reason revealing female armor promotes inequality, is that ONLY females have revealing armor, while the male equivalent is often very covering.

Giving males a variety of revealing and sexualized armor, so that revealing armors are more equal across the genders, is the way to fix this problem and quiet down the debate. It would make the majority of both sides happy—the people who want revealing female armor don’t lose any options, the issue of gender equality is addressed, and at the end of the day we have even MORE options with addition of revealing male armor.

Race and gender equality for armors

in Suggestions

Posted by: Snoring Sleepwalker.9073

Snoring Sleepwalker.9073

Lets put the tl/dr at the start:
All armor skin designs, except cultural armor, should exist for all race and gender combinations. The only differences should be due to anatomical differences between one race/gender combination and another.
For cultural armors, the only difference between the male and female versions should be due to anatomical differences between the genders (for example, the size difference between norn males and females).

Now for the detail
There are lots of armors in Guild Wars 2 where the male version is so different from the female version that the only way I can see ANET getting both designs is to have started them both from scratch. Which means that we are actually looking at two completely different armor skins that just share a name while discriminating on the basis of gender and race. Lets take acolyte armor as the example:
Female version
Male version
If I want to wear the male version on a female norn, human or sylvari I can’t.
If I want to wear the female version on any male character I can’t.
If I want to wear the female version on any charr or asura character, male or female, I can’t.

To fix this, I want ANET to split the Acolyte into two different armor sets with two different names. One of the sets will be the male acolyte skin, with the tweaks so that female norn, human and sylvari can wear it. The other set will be the female acolyte skin, with tweaks so it is available for all male characters as well as asura and charr females.
When this change happens, one of the armor skins will keep the acolyte name. Which means people wearing the other armor skin will log in to find their armor skin has changed. If they have an armor piece that has had its skin changed, they should be given something (like the HoM items) to let them change the skin to the old appearance with the new name.

I want ANET to do this for all existing armor skins. Except for stuff like Rubric armor where the male and female versions are already the same in all areas except anatomical differences with the character wearing it.

When ANET introduces a new armor skin, the only differences between the male and female versions are anatomical differences between the genders/races wearing it.

Upgrading Skills + Skill Mastery

in Suggestions

Posted by: TheDaiBish.9735

TheDaiBish.9735

Both of these will tie into one another, as I will explain below.

What Is Skill Mastery?

Skill Mastery is a form of progression that outlines how much you have used a weapon. Each kill / skill usage while in combat will provide you with XP towards your Skill Mastery level, while appropriate use of a skill will earn bonus XP (i.e. making use of combo fields).

The total number of XP required for one level would be the equivalent of a level at 80 (254,000).

Upgrading Skills

To make use of them skill points (aside from Mystic Forge items) that are gained after level cap, I propose that we be allowed to upgrade our existing skills to improve varying attributes (damage, duration, cooldown, AoE area ect). Each skill will have a number of tiers that they can go through until they reach a max upgrade.

For example, Fireball for the Elementalist:

  • Tier 1 – Splash Radius Slight Increase (120 to 180)
  • Tier 2 – Renews Burning Duration on Burning Foes
  • Tier 3 – Applies Burning
  • Max Tier Upgrade – Leaves a Fire Field at the location of impact (size: 180) for a short duration (1 sec).

Also, the total number of skill points required would increase each Tier. Each Tier would also have a minimum level of Skill Mastery that you’d need to achieve before you could unlock the next, and also a required level before you start to upgrade your next skill. For example:

  • Tier 1 would cost 50 skill points and require level 5 Skill Mastery
  • Tier 2 would cost 70 skill points and require level 10 Skill Mastery
  • Tier 3 would cost 90 skill points and require level 15 Skill Mastery
  • Max Tier would cost 150 skill points and require level 20 Skill Mastery

Notes

  • Upgrades should not be overly powerful. Rather they’re just there to increase effectiveness.
  • Upgrades shouldn’t increase damage, crit chance ect. We already have Traits for that.

What Was The Purpose Of This Suggestion?

As it is, with set weapon skills, it can become somewhat tedious using the same skills over and over.

However, the suggestion of allowing us to pick weapon skills from a pool has already been made countless times, so this was an alternative suggestion to that as to what can be done for us to be able to customise weapon skills.

Life is a journey.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

I love the idea of unlocking additional skill effects.

However, it seems like you’re suggesting the various Tiers would stack, so at Max Tier Upgrade, your Fireball would have 50% bigger splash radius, renew burning, apply burning (wich is also renewed), and leave a Fire Combo Field on impact.

I’m against that much of an improvement to skill effects.

Regarding your Notes, renewing Burning, applying Burning and creating Fire Combo Field count as increasing damage.

I think it would actually be alot more fun if you were only able to benefit from 1 of the Tiers at a time.

So you would choose between renewing burning (so you’d depend on other sources of burning), or applying burning, or bigger splash radius, or fire combo field.

Finally, 150 Skill Points to improve 1 skill to max is insane…
In my suggestion, it’d take 1 skill point to unlock each “variant” of each skill, wich would take a decent while to do.

i dont see the “reward” in that system?! o.O its a pure “do this or you get punished”.

i dont believe a game as free as gw2 should punish people. instead i think it would be cool to reward people with bonus buffs when you complete events.

as used in the example given, instead of punishing them if they dont do it, give them 10% MORE then normal when they do it. meaning:
i run around in 1-15 human i free a bounch of farmers and clear out the centaur, now i got 5% bonus on gold drop from mobs for 24h becouse of what i did on each event but since i finished 3 events i now have 15% bonus for 24h.

so the more you complete the more bonus of different things you could get…

dont punish but reward.

when that is said i find it sad that you get to be 1-3 lvls higher then the mobs when you enter a lower lvl area, makes it crazily easy you should be delvled to max 1 lvl over the mobs and preferrable same lvl or 1 lvl under to insure that it keeps a minimum challenge.
i actually thing delvling you to 1-3 lvls under the mobs would make up for the benefit you get of having much better statsed gear (60+ gear is 3 stats 20- is 1 stats, pretty huge different, + all your traits etc. which you wouldnt have if you where the lvl of the area, so the disadvantage of a few lvls seems balanced)

Better yet, make stocks and lock them there. Then allow us to throw rotten vegetables at them.

Given that the devs say they have all these wonderful tools to make cool new game elements reapidly, they should create a special Jail map and instead of banning/suspending people for indiscretions, relocate them there and let them run around mindlessly with little or no ability to say/do anything.

If anything it would be amusing to see the reactions.

Such a great game, such narrow mind.

I know you native english speakers commonly tell foreign people to just “go learn english, its THE international language”, but cmon. It’s been proven that language options can bring good results. The international community usually see with good eyes when a company takes the time and effort to localize stuff. I’m sure you all know that so, just add more languages, please. Not for me, because I took the suggestion of you guys a few years ago and learnt at least the very basics of your language, but a dozen of my friends won’t play GW2 because they can’t understand it. And I NEED them to play it with me and let go of freaking WoW once and for all. We’r brazilian by the way, I know there’s at least 15% of portuguese speakers in any MMO as long as they have PT-BR language as an option, so there’s no reasonable excuse for not having it. Yes, they could learn it, but please try to think of it this way at least once: it takes a lot of time to learn a whole new language. Just ask yourselves, how much foreign languages do you know besides the internationally holy precious and globalized english ? Some of you can speak other languages, but let’s face it, the vast majority can’t. Which is OK since english is indeed a common language in the whole world. But it won’t hurt to give us a simple localization. Thank you.

Some have pretty nice skins, especially pre 80. I actually use a vendor skin for my MF set (I think it’s gladiator’s with out the helm/headpiece)

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you meant HEART vendors. Yea, those weapon vendors are there just so that you always have access to a barebone weapon of your liking.

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc

These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
