Daily quests concern

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You can do half of the dailies in bloodstone fen in about three minutes. Literally. The gliding skills and collecting 10 unbound magic take no time at all.

You can get two of the three dailies in Ember Bay in under ten minutes and if you’re lucky, you can get all three in that time. If you only go for one of them, you can get that in about 90 seconds.

The problem with MMOs is that casual players need stuff to do, and some people need a road map. If you don’t give them dailies they won’t do anything because there’s nothing telling them what to do.

For a guy like me, I could do without it but youd’ be surprised at how many casual players don’t want to do anything they want.,…they want a checklist.

I go in, I do the two easy bloodstone fen dailies on most days because it’s very fast. I do the ember bay dalies almost every day because I’d like to get ascended accessories for most of my toons without spending guild commendations which I’m currently using for minis.

But I don’t do more than the dailes because I don’t need those accessories faster than I’m getting them….at least on most days. Sometimes I do hang out in Ember Bay because I’m having fun hanging out in Ember Bay.

The game shouldn’t really determine what you do. If you’re not having fun, do something else.

'the market will fix itself'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Obtena.7952

Obtena.7952

I don’t see what the problem is here. It’s exactly as JS and Anet said … price will raise to the point where demand and supply are more inline. It’s not speculation that markets will adjust … it’s part of their very nature to do so.

QQing that Mystic coins are ‘expensive’ and claiming that it’s because there is something ‘wrong’ in general with Anet’s approach to let the markets work themselves out shows you don’t know what you are talking about. When the price is ‘right’, people will release their coins to ease the demand.

There are multiple ways the ANet can solve this “problem”, although the problem is different depending upon who you talk to.

ANet’s current approach is “hands off” which is a bit ambiguous — without knowledge of the “hands on” approach, we really don’t know what is different. Of course you can guess, but that’s not factual in any way.

I think what is safe to say is that is Anet is certain that the market behaves in a ‘textbook’ manner, then it’s completely reasonable to believe that it will behave exactly as they believe it should, based on what they know from a textbook. I think that’s completely reasonable approach.

The real failure here is with players that invent their own indicators of what ‘good behaviour’ in the market is, deception intended or not. Then complain that the market isn’t doing what it should be because of those nonsense indicators. This thread is a great example.

OP blames ‘market behaviour’ as the reason he can’t afford MC’s, because he WANTS MC’s. On the other hand, I’m going to encourage market to ‘behave badly’, because I have my own self interests as well. In the end, it’s irrelevant what players think the market should and shouldn’t be doing, because neither of those POV’s are how Anet measure ‘good market behaviour’.

Bottomline is this: Anet must feel that at this point, for whatever reason, they don’t need to babysit the market anymore, so they aren’t. It’s on autopilot. Prices should eventually and truly represent supply and demand. OP doesn’t like that, only because he want’s cheap MC’s, not because it won’t work.

This bug is still ongoing. I can today confirm that the Guild Gold Banner also disappears on changing of maps, just like the Hero Banners. Both the hero banner and the guild gold banner has a blue outline instead of a green one now, as if they are a party member. Thus, they disappear when the player who is ‘in party’ with them leaves the map.

It’s nearly three months now. A fix is way over due on this.

This is not directed at anyone in this thread.

Hoarders are everywhere in this game (my wife is one of them). Constantly running out of bag space. Taken every storage slot in multiple guild vaults and are always bemoaning the lack of space. She and I have played since launch, have roughly the same playing hours, same number of legendaries, characters etc. but I have fifty open slots on each character and only use four bank tabs (though I did buy a few storage expanders). As a game hoarder, she just won’t sell anything.

Until they can overcome their hoarding behavior, they will always be complaining about space.

We need a microtransaction store with items that can only be purchased with real money.

Why do you think we need it? Do you have access to ArenaNet’s or NCSoft’s accounts or something? We as players certainly don’t need it at all. Only the company would need something like this, and I don’t think you actually know if they need it or not.

I’m sure your suggestion is out of the question anyway, as far as ANet are concerned. Lets leave the financial decisions to, well you know, the actual staff?

You can get up to 100 bag slots just from using 20 bag slots.
General way to handle things is asking yourself “do I REALLY need this?” and then either put it away, keep it or discard it.
Having some more bank space definitely helps though, so does more material storage. If it helps, you can buy gems with ingame gold once you saved up enough and feel like you can “waste” it on the luxury it offers.

So yes, be angry, but not at Anet. Be angry at the RMT’s, and those players who continue to purchase from them.

Mad King Says Fails To Give 3 Key Fragments

I arrived late to a game and got two fragments a few days ago. Since then I have done at least one round a day with max participation and gotten three more fragments, leaving me with two each time. (I am not sure if I tried again in the same day as when I got the two).

Based on forum discussion, I went back in today and got full participation but no key parts. I did do it at reset last night so I’m flagged as having completed it for this time frame.

It’s no big deal to me, I’ll throw out the excess fragments when the festival’s over if they can’t make a key and just live with having looted the chest one less time than I might have. I’m reporting it here to aid in any bug fixing.

I can’t promise that ANet didn’t nerf mobs/bosses or increase the reset time on ‘doors’ or change DR. However, given that everyone acknowledges that ANet didn’t spend much time on the event, isn’t it more plausible to believe that we’re simply more experienced and efficient now?

The Lich was nerfed, I don’t think the other bosses did. The Lich doesn’t summon many adds (if any?) and doesn’t give them boons. Used to apply regeneration, protection and retaliation on all the adds.

The Lich was always easy. The zerg just didn’t know how to dodge his skeleton summoning attack. I developed a bit of a habit of soloing him last year. I haven’t had the chance to fight him this year though.

It’s also a possibility that the prices are rising due to Anet taking “a step back” from market controls per JS’s message a few weeks ago.

Anet hasn’t done anything to ectos in a long time. The only reason why prices were up is because all the AB multi-map farmers are now doing Mad King lab runs. It’s more profitable to do Lab, because there’s no DR, and all enemies drop valuable ToT bags. After this event is over, they’ll return to AB farming, and ectos will flow once more.

Chronos and the new 5 stack boon cap.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Apraxas.3685

Apraxas.3685

I’m writing this from the perspective of a Chronomancer that has played over 2000 hours since the release of HoT. I’ve raided, gathered 200+ insights and done all the content the game has to offer so I think I can provide an honest impression regarding this boon stack change. I’d also like to express a thing or two about the game and why it is (was?) fun for me.

Like many others, I share the sentiment that this balance patch did nothing to make the game better in PvE. I’m not talking about the massive nerf to SoI; I know it was OP in WvW, but that is not what irks me the most. In fact, I’m kinda learning to like this new iteration of the skill.
What is bothering me the most, and the reason I’m writing this post is the Boon 5 stack cap introduced.
Why is this cap bothering me? For 2 reasons mainly.
The first: As a Chronomancer, this invisible barrier is making my skills randomly half as effective OR totally ineffective half the time. In other words, my skills are being subject of diminishing returns half the time.
As an example: Tides of times being 2 stacks will cause my next Well of Action or Signet of inspiration only give me 3 seconds of quickness a lot of times, granted I am at a over +18 seconds of quickness. This seems to be the magical barrier. Quickness under 18 seconds> your skill will be 100% effective. Quickness over 18 seconds> a LOT of times the skill will be 50% effective.
What happens with my elite skill Time warp? The fact that it gives so many stacks will make everything bad. Seeing my Timewarp active on the field and me inside… and then hovering my quickness icon, and seeing it tick down from 20 to 13s… is probably the most frustrating thing ever.

Example of Timewarp being useless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdUKwiGjySg&feature=youtu.be

As you can see, my elite skill has been butchered to only grant whooping 4 seconds quickness here.

Now my question is… Why must I have to be Penalized for using my skills and my cooldowns too fast? Why am I being penalized and having my skills be half as useful or not useful at all even though I blew my cooldown? To be honest this doesn’t seem fair at all. This is the equivalent of having a warrior and his skills randomly starting to hit for half of their normal damage only because he exceeded 15k dps.

Regarding the 2nd point that bothers me: I was browsing Qt’s new updated chrono guides, and I found this chart.

http://puu.sh/rQE2I/ce8b55c1fd.png (source http://qtfy.enjin.com/mesmer#DomiRecall)

It is explaining a rotation and how to land it so you don’t overstack your quickness. That is when it hit me and I asked myself “Why in the world do we have to get to a point of making an excel chart so our Chrono skills don’t overlap and become half as effective?” I agree charts are great, and if they help you figure out how to be more efficient with dps numbers and rotations, all is great. But this? This is a chart so we use our skills and specific order so they don’t kitten each other! I am being penalized simply because I’m playing too fast or in a different cooldown order!

Many will ask, “What’s wrong with playing slower?” “Why must you play so fast to a degree your skills suffer diminishing returns?”

The thing is, that’s precisely the reason why I loved this game, its fast combat system. The fact that only Boon classes are subject to diminishing returns is unbearable to me. I don’t see thieves or Eles hitting arbitrary damage caps simply because someone decided that THEY SHALL NOT PASS over 30k dps for example.

Before the patch I could play fast, dodge, watch the boss, appreciate mechanics, do my thing, help, res a downed player, use my cooldowns when I knew were good and useful to keep the quickness love going. But now after this patch, the feeling of knowing that if i blew a cooldown half a second too early it might be useless is just too overwhelming. It sucks the fun out of this game, I feel like have to slow myself down and start ticking numbers in my head, I feel like I have to play with my eyes plastered to the cooldown timers ticking down so I have a small cue to know that its safe to cast something else.
This might have sounded like a Rant for some, and I apologize for it, but I had to take this out of my chest and express how I feel in hopes someone will notice and fix this… It’s the first time since HoT released that i feel i don’t want to raid anymore, and its the first time i feel I want to quit the game because I can’t play Chrono how I want to play it. I don’t want to have to start making excel graphs and play like a robot…

TLDR: The 5 max boon cap has made playing Chrono feel like a bother. Skills have a huge risk all the time of suffering diminishing returns despite you blowing your full cooldown. The cap feels restrictive, unintuitive and forces the gameplay to be slower and more calculated so you don’t overstack your boons.

Please give me one objective proven reason as to why I am wrong, […]

It would (at least) double the development and maintenance time of raids, and inhibit their ability to deliver new raids and raid wings in a schedule that meets their current intent. In other words, there’s no way they can support another raid mode without reducing the amount of content they output in a year.

Problems on Raid Balance

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

There’s a large difference between what is unplayable and what is optimal. People keep confusing the two.

That’s why before the patch every class as playable. Now go and use your rev or necro and see how good they are, you can play them but your runs will not be that smoth anymore.

So when somehing goes wrong who you think they are going to blame? When dps is missing, who they will start to blame? What classes do you think pugs will start banning?

That’s the problems when you put a balance patch that puts classes on a very different power level

But they are not unplayable as you stated in your post. They’re just not optimal. That’s what I was saying in my post. With how quickly groups can clear raids, and how most groups wipe well before the enrage timer, the issue is rarely lack of DPS but rather lack of performing mechanics correctly and consistently.

Diminishing Returns in Lab

I’m surprised people are getting DR after just an hour.

I spent most of yesterday evening farming the Labyrinth and I think I only saw the beginnings of DR once (it wasn’t enough of a drop in loot to be sure it was DR and not just a bad run, and I left shortly after). Last year I was farming it pretty much all Halloween and rarely saw DR.

My system is fairly simple:
1) Farm the Labyrinth until I get 250 bags or DR, whichever comes first (and it’s almost always 250 bags).
2) Go to LA, clear my inventory, open the bags, sort out all the loot. (Plus play Mad King Says if it starts.)
3) Head back to the Labyrinth. If I think I’m getting DR I’ll switch to do a few runs of the Clocktower or Ascent to Madness, on the same character then come back.

I’m not sure if it’s that system, the fact that I can only play for a maximum of 7 hours a night and have to stop at least once to either make and eat dinner or eat and wash up, frequently more than once if there’s other real life stuff I have to do, or a combination of the two but as I said I rarely get hit with DR and when I do it’s easy to get rid of.

One thing to bear in mind is it’s entirely possible to get a run of bad drops without it being DR. When it does hit you’ll know it. I never get it outside the Labyrinth (because I hate farming) but the first time it happened was pretty unmistakable. It wasn’t simply that I was getting less greens and rares, or a veteran from a door didn’t drop loot, I literally stopped getting anything except Spider Legs and Porous Bones for an entire circuit of the Lab. Periods of bad loot are much more common, but less extreme.

Secondly it’s important to remember it’s applied and removed per character. Switching to a different character when it hits will enable you to play without DR for a while, but will do nothing to remove it, when you go back to the first character they’ll still be affected. You have to play that character in a different map to remove it.

The reason I know this is I do have 3 Gwamm’s but 4 full HOM’s. I am also kinda disappointed in what I received in GW2 for doing all that, and the fact if you pvp now you can get anything I worked for that I was disappointed with.

If you’re referring to the Legacy Armor Reward Track that has nothing to do with the Hall of Monuments. It awards the Apostle, Stalwart and Tribal armor sets, which share a name with the gem store legacy armor sets (Profane, Krytan and Primeval).

But neither of them have anything to do with the Heritage armor sets which are only obtainable from the Hall of Monuments.

Few things:

1) Try to be concise. If it takes 2 full posts to get your point across, chances are you are ranting. Most people will read such very long post as a rant, not as a constructive post.

2) An “Exp” run does (usually) imply the kill or near kill on the boss by all members of the raid. All mechanics should be known. Most groups will demand kill proofs.

3) Entry level on raids is bad, to this I agree. Most dungeon groups demanded that people knew how to speedrun them. If you didn’t, you got kicked. Raids upped the ante by increasing the number of people to 10 and being far less forgiving to new people.

4) If you aren’t willing to do training runs (see post by Amaimon for what I think is an excellent opportunity), then be prepared to be kicked. Most people do not want to risk spending 3+ hours on a boss and not kill it at the end of the day, which is a real risk when running with new people. They would rather clear 2-3 full wings in that time in an experienced group.

Bottom line is this – if you want people to respect your time, you have to respect theirs.

I have no idea why the concept of buying them from the TP so anathema for some people and insist you are suppose to acquire everything from your own labors.

You can farm charged loadstones from map rewards (may take 4 or 5 months) and even craft them. It’s for a Legendary, it is suppose to take a long time to craft, especially if you choose to “free range” all the mats yourself.

That’s more observational than quantifiable. I can state the opposite but that wouldn’t make it true.

Agreed that my numbers are only my own and by provable i mean if you sat down and documented it the results (based on my experience) would show a decrease.

That would be a hypothesis. Experiences are rarely reliable but they often lead one to conduct tests to verify whether it is true or not.

Those of you who seem to have made it your personal crusade to deny any mention of the subject will continue to flood these threads and try to make it seem like we’re all wearing tinfoil hats. This is the joy of GW2 forums.

Well the thing is that nobody has offered any evidence that the salvage rate has been changed and is what is impacting the current price trend. We have had people make claims before based on their experience which turned out to be wrong. Ectos always seem to be one that gets claimed to have changed with only one instance turning out to be true and people actually verified it.

You could state the opposite and it most certainly would not be true.

Use a medium armour wearing character (which should give you the most chance of obtaining leather items to salvage) – open a 250 stacks of loot bags – salvage all armour and weps – and I can guarantee you that you will have more silk than leather.

I know because I have done it a several times recently, others clearly are seeing the same thing – Anet stated they changed things when they made the adjustments to improve silk drops last year.

Except it’s in the person making the claim to back it up otherwise I can say that Pluto is inhabited by Quaggan and anyone that disagrees I can just tell to prove me wrong. To out it in another way, someone comes into the forums claiming that the ecto rate is half of what it was the day before. It would be on that player to prove their case and not everyone else to prove them wrong.

Opening 250 stacks has hardly been done and documented. If it has then point me to the source. Otherwise, all you’re doing is making a hypothetical claim. You’ve opened 250 stacks of loot bags several times recently? That’s quite a lot and I’m thinking that you’re greatly exaggerating that number. One of the main reasons why someone’s experience cannot be relied on. If you mean a stack then that sample size is way too small.

because people who have to pug T2 are usually less experienced than people who pug T4
(not always but just in general T4 seems to go easier since most times everyone knows exactly what to do)

so you may want to go for T4 for easier fracs that are also more rewarding

If you look carefully at World selection screen, it doesn’t say “EN” on the regular worlds, it’s just the french, german, and spanish ones are specified. That could well be taken to mean that the other ones are more intended to be “international” in which case all languages are ok. Marko, for future reference: If you want Anet to listen to your feedback and suggestions and incorporate them into the game, getting more players to agree with your ideas and perhaps elaborate on them increases the chances of that happening. The more posts and activity a thread has, the more likely Anet is to see it and possibly take those suggestions into consideration when implementing content.

Similarly, the best way for you to ostracize yourself (and therefore, your ideas) is to attack other players responding with good feedback. It’s a really great way to get your thread ignored—players are less likely to want to respond if they expect to be attacked, and therefore when your suggestions thread is ignored it will very quickly drop from the front page and out of view of developers who might listen to your ideas.

But you do you, boo.
