If you restart the story, you forget the recipe and lose access to its components. You have to replay the story from the first step to the point where you make the elixir again.

Well, let’s see. You need 126 HoT Mastery Points to fulfill every HoT Mastery Track. There are 164 HoT Mastery Points available. Adventures give 30 Mastery Points total.

164 – 30 = 134. Looks like there are enough Mastery Points available to max out all tracks and never touch an Adventure.

I dont understand why people think “but it’s more work” is an excuse for anet to not do something they are definitely capable of.

Same, especially when you think about Guild Wars 1 which had a lot of new armor sets and weapons added in each expansion. And these could be mixed and matches with old armor pieces and I never saw any graphic issue with them as far as I can remember. This felt satisfying because you could customize your character with so many options.

What did we get with HoT ? 1 new set, extremely few pieces that you can count on one hand, and very few new weapons here and there to say they did work on something for HoT (some items added months after the “expac” released…)

Gw1 only had one race, human, to make armor for not 5. It is having to make armor for 5 races and 2 sexes that takes more time and money than armor that only has to fit 1 race and male/female.

In addition, the combat animations were less complex in that game as you couldn’t move and attack at the same time so armor didn’t need to be made with that in mind.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Outfits vs Armor sets

Behellagh.1468

This is a recurring, often discussed topic. You’ll get answers like “because outfits are cheaper/faster to make” or “they can do things with outfits they can’t do with armor” or “outfits sell better”.

Whether you accept those answers is another matter.

Anet saying that or the community? I’m one of those that never used an outfit becouse it kills the “unique look” or my own kinda “setup” sort of speech. Tho in theori I I think thats the answer why we get the outfits and not new “armor sets” must been years since last armor set in gemstore?

Mike O’Brien has stated that a full armor set takes 9 months of time (assuming for a single person) and outfits take 1/10th that time.

Since armor sells for 800 gems while outfits sell for 700 gems, and gem sales are their primary source of income, paying off development time faster for a gem store item means sooner that sales of that item goes toward paying for all the other development.

Whilst I agree it would be nice to see more new armour sets I think it’s unlikely to happen for exactly the reason you gave.

Designing weapons is relatively simple because the models are universal – a sword held by a human thief is identical to a sword held by an asuran mesmer etc. So they come up with a theme, adapt it to the shape of each weapon and maybe add some individual details if it’s appropriate and they’re done – 16 new weapons for everyone.

Armour is not universal and therefore requires a lot more work. At absolute minimum they have to create 4 versions of each set – one for male humans/sylvari/norn, one for females, one for asura and one for charr. And that’s assuming they can stretch the human/sylvari version to fit the norn (which players complain about) and use the male version on female asura and charr (which players complain about). Ideally they need to create 10 versions – one for each race/gender combination.

And then they have to do that again for the other 2 armour weights. That’s a minimum of 12 models and a maximum of 30 for what players will see as only 3 new armour sets.

It seems they are experimenting with ways to offer new armour skins without it being so much effort – every Living Story episode this season has included at least 1 piece (head, gloves or shoulders) with the same skin used for all 3 armour weights. Even if they just stick with that it’s an improvement, but they might be able to expand on the concept in future.

Also I assume the next expansion will include new armour like HoT did.

You have to have legendary creativity to be a part of the Asura fashion life endgame. It is not for everyone. Not everyone can accomplish such amazing feats as we do with our elite fashion sense that outshines even the largest of Norn and Charr!

We understand if you cannot handle it.

There are new items in the black lion chest. If nothing else, the thing you get for jotun weapons is a new item.

The basic research is yours to do. The black lion chest always gave a random reward. New items are available as part of that reward.

New items are in the chest. But you don’t get everything in the chest.

Most people realized long ago that black lion keys are simply gambling. Of course, some people like to gamble.

If you don’t want to gamble don’t buy them.

In fact, if you’d bothered even so much as mousing over the black lion key in the trading post you’d see it says this: “This key will unlock one Black Lion Chest containing random GEM Store merchandise, including some rare items not sold seperately.”

The other day i joined 80-100+LI Sabetha group while i myself have 40 LI (and Eternal), none of the group knew i actually didn’t fit the “requirements”. We one shot the boss, it was clean smooth run, everyone was happy about it and it felt really really good to tell that group that i actually have only 40 LI and that their LI requirement is garbage.

Had similar story with KC where i sneaked in high requirement group – was also a clean run. They took me to Xera as well despite my lolsy 40 LI.

Also, from my experience so far when it comes to bosses like Xera and Matt, those 200+ LI elitist are sooooo bad in many cases, like REALLY bad (pushing orbs to the edge off platform, stacking on crystal eating 21938219830 confusion, not using action key etc.). They mess up more than new players actually.

Bottom line: LI requirement is a joke and people who want to get carried require those.

@OP: best way to get kills is to join raiding guild. Problem with training runs is that you will never kill boss with those, ever (unless it is VG or escort). You can make own group but if you lack experience you can’t lead it. You can also lie about your LI and link chat codes (there are sites for it).

So a “forum developer” says it’s easy, while an actual developer says it’s too much work. I would go with what the actual developers say over some random forum poster with zero knowledge.

You need only complete the Core Personal Story once to acquire each and every Mastery Point related. No need to do it over and over. Or, are you referring to the Heart of Thorns story? That’s all L80 content and for the more experienced.

I hope you didn’t use a L80 Booster and try to do the HoT story immediately.

Still, if you find the gameplay too difficult and would rather not accept help, there may be other avenues of entertainment that would serve you better.

“Although satire is usually meant to be humorous, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit to draw attention to both particular and wider issues in society.” wikipedia

So, is this satirizing requests for open PvP in PvE maps or requests for dueling? If the former, well played. If the latter, not so much. Given that there is a current thread on duels and I haven’t seen one on open PvP in PvE for a long while, I’d guess the latter. However, this is the internet and nothing is either certain or sacred.

After a long look through a google search on Duels, I found a post saying that Dueling was never going to ne a part of Guild Wars 2, but if there was enough interest they would look into it, this was apparently said by Jon Peters. Though the post failed to link said video, and I don’t care enough to look for it

Since you brought it up, and in the interest of accuracy… when I google No dueling in GW2 Jon Peters, the closest thing I see is this link. You’ll note the link to a Jon Peters document that does not work, so I’d guess this is what is being referred to.

“• MyGw2: We will be able to fight in duels?

• Eric: Dueling is not a core system for us, given that we balance all of our PvP combat around groups of players fighting and not one-on-one engagements. Because of this, dueling is on our wish list of things to add, but is unlikely to make it into the game on release."

Golden Ooze nearly impossible to complete

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

While it’s true some encounters do require huge numbers of people, this isn’t one of them. In fact, more people can make this fight harder if they don’t know what to do.

This is why events should display their scaling / intended scale. Many people think solo content is group content and group content is zerg content, then think everything is easy while they’ve never actually played it as intended. It doesn’t help that that ArenaNet rewards that behavior. When they see a low population, they assume failure and are either hesitant or don’t bother. “Taxi in more people or we’ll fail” is something I’ve seen many times for events I’ve either done solo or with a fraction of what we already have. However, those could just be the leechers wanting a effortless ride.

A lot of fights are easier when people try not to DPS everything down.

As an example, the sloth queen in ember bay will fail if everyone just does DPS. Didn’t expect that did you? Most people probably think she’s easy as they effortlessly zerg her, but have you ever tried her with ~3 people post-buff to see the actual encounter? Either everyone there needs to be pro zerkers or nobody can DPS since her phases are based on her health. You need to wait out the food deliveries to put her to sleep, or you’ll fail.

The easiest way to kill that ooze, and I’ve done it with just myself and one other person there, is to lure the champ round and round the pillar as you fight it. The little oozes move so slowly they can’t keep up, and so they never get close enough to the champ to heal it.

With this strategy, you can kill the ooze very quickly

What does F2P mean for paid players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Danikat.8537

Danikat.8537

The fact that it’s possible to create a free account won’t have any direct impact on you if you have a paid account – nothing has been changed for you and in most cases you won’t be able to identify free players in-game. (I think the main clue is they use say chat more because they can’t use map chat.)

But if you’re playing on a free account it’s quite different because there’s a lot of restrictions on what they can do.

That link goes to the full list on the Wiki but here’s some of the key points:

  • Only 2 character slots
  • Can’t choose or change server
  • Won’t get login rewards
  • Can’t use map chat at all or team/squad chat before level 30
  • Can only whisper mutual friends or people on the same map once every 30 seconds
  • Can’t sell or buy most items on the TP (even most weapons and armour)
  • Can’t use guild banks
  • Can’t leave starter maps until level 10, can’t enter LA until level 35 or WvW until level 60
  • Can’t use gold to gems exchange
  • Can’t post on the forum

I think of the free version as basically a demo. You have access to most of the content in the game – you can play the story, explore PvE maps, play PvP, level up and get new equipment etc. so you’ve got plenty of opportunity to get a feel for the game and decide if you want to stick with it, but the restrictions make it impractical to play on a free account long-term so if you do want to keep going sooner or later you’re going to want to buy a full account.

"Outfits are easier to make than armor"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

And I stated this before. Because, according to MO, they can make 10 outfits in the time to make one “set” (three weights) of armor, armor is too cost prohibited as a gem store item. That that’s because anything developed exclusively for the gem store has to not only pay for it’s development but have to contribute to the rest of the game’s development. And since outfits are 700 gems and armors are 800 gems, it’s not rocket surgery to see why.

At the end of the day, it’s a business. They decided that a cash shop was the way to go and that means “new” stuff has to keep showing up to keep the spice cash flowing. Sorry, that’s the reality. If you have to keep new items showing up in the cash stop, it needs to be “cheap” in terms of resources to make and that’s what outfits are.

Why Guards dont got +25% Movement Speed?

Only 4 professions have a Signet to grant 25%+ Movement Speed. This sacrifices a utility slot for something, in most cases, useless for the speed increase.

There are 8 traits for 7 different professions that give 25% Movement Speed, 6 of which have temporary conditions to meet before applying. (Warrior – with Melee weapons, Necro -with Dagger equipped/in Death Shroud, Thief +50% while in Stealth only Etc) This in most cases sacrifices a better trait or even a whole line, for the movement speed.

For everyone else, there’s Traveller Runes.

Ectos and the t6 mats for gifts of might and magic lost nearly 50% in value since June, which ecuals around 600-700g for each legendary.
If you needed charged lodestones for your legendary, you pay 100g less now compared to june and most precursors also lost 100-200g in value since then.
Just that is around 1000g off your shopping list for mats.

Why did those constantly lost value since june?
AB Farm, new LS chapter and I am not sure when they announced that new legendaries are on hold for the time being. That might have been around that time and might have caused some players, who were hoarding mats in order to craft the new rifle for example, opted to use their mats to craft the old leggie rifle and sell it for a profit. If you check the supply graphs of the leggie weapons, most of them only had less than 10 listings, now most have over 40. So more supply than demand, it seems.

NCSOFT properties in Russia has always been, like China, run by a “local” 3rd party company for royalties.

This ban is because of the CIS invasion of the Ukraine in 2014. So for these last few months of the Obama administration, they are enforcing the sanctions with the EU for reals. That’s why it was a mistake having Ukraine on the list as they are the victim, not the aggressor.
