Request: Halloween JP Not Part of Meta Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

People really should do their research before complaining about the possibility of the Halloween JP being required for the meta. It NEVER has been required.

In 2015, the JP wasn’t an option for the meta achievement. Players needed to do 8 out of the 9 available to complete the meta. Dailies did not count towards the meta.

In 2014, the JP wasn’t an option for the meta achievement. Players needed to do 12 out of the 14 available to complete the meta. The JP was part of the dailies but was on a rotation. Dailies counted toward meta.

In 2013, the JP wasn’t an option for the meta achievement. Players needed to do 13 out of the 13 available to complete the meta. The JP was part of the dailies but was on a rotation. Dailies counted toward meta.

I did not see a meta achievement on the wiki for 2012.

Open World PVP?

I actually think the recent story step was an in joke to poke fun at those who suggest this idea from time to time on the forums.

“ok guys, you asked for pvp in open PvE – here it is!”

Lol. Yet funny enough there WAS open world pvp for a split second (well a little bit longer to be exact) during one of the betas as part of an event.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Given the choice of not having it at all and having it this way, I am glad we have it. But it is a far inferior method of acquisition if I understand correctly that there is no associated achievement.

Loot is excessive and unenjoyable

Since most of the loot has little worth to you, and the time to process it seems too long, you might consider the ‘Salvage All’ option, and then the ‘Deposit All’ option. That should clear up some space and save some time.

The problems with frequent Exotic and Ascended drops is that the items then become common (see all the posts of yore about Ascended Rings dropping so frequently in Fractals), and thus, worth little to players. For the most part, an item can not be common and rare.

Too Much Account Binding

I agree with Bruno, most of the stuff you listed I would delete.

Especially equipment awarded by the story – it’s soulbound so you can’t pass it to an alt and it can’t be sold or salvaged. Some of it can go in the Mystic Forge but as you said it’s not worth holding onto it to do that. So as soon as my character has something better I delete it.

At this point I only keep equipment if it’s ascended and has stats I think I’ll want in future or it’s level 80 exotic and has selectable stats. Until my characters are level 80 I just use whatever they get as drops and rewards. At level 80 I immediately get them a full set of exotics. So the selectable stat stuff may save me a bit of time/money, but even then if I was really short of bank space it’d be the first thing to go.

Of the stuff on your list the only ones I’m holding onto are Broken Caladbolg (only because I suspect we’ll be able to do something with it later on) and Levvi’s Device, just in case I need it again. I may well delete both of those in future if I decide I don’t need them any more.

The backpacks I’d give to a character or delete (the skins are already in your wardrobe so no need to keep the items just for that). Not sure what collection items you’re referring to but likewise if I can’t use or sell them I’d delete them.

Same for account bound materials – If you’re keeping them in the bank I assume you’ve got at least 250 in the materials tab. If you need more than that…well was it difficult to get the ones you’ve got now? Probably not, so you can always get more.

(I do have a few items I keep purely for nostalgia like 1 Gift from Scarlet and the various journals. But I only have a few of them and it’s because I’ve decided, each time I go through my bank, that I want to keep each one.)

Current state of fractals ^^

I’m going to take this lovely image as an opportunity to chat about the most common pub compositions for Fractals.

I don’t think this really says anything about Necromancers or Druids per se, but rather says a lot about the way every fractal is constructed, including the bosses even. Honestly, I think the Druid is completely unnecessary in the comp because it’s basically impossible to die as a remotely competent Necromancer in T4 Fractals.

  • There are always a number of targets present, so Epidemic is always relevant.
  • There are no DPS checks or enrage mechanics, so taking a bit longer but being much safer is very valuable for runs with players you don’t know anything about.
  • Most enemies aren’t remotely threatening to competent players, but are noob-killers that prey on players who don’t know how to handle their classes or the fractal’s mechanics.
  • Toughness scaling at high levels strongly encourages condition damage builds and not power builds.
  • Many encounters outright encourage range with more melee-punishing mechanics than range-punishing mechanics (ie. Imbued Shaman / Archdiviner / Molten Duo / Mai Trin)

Even if they nerfed Necromancers to oblivion, it would just become 4 condi Engineers and a Druid, or whatever. The lack of build diversity is entirely due to the fractals’ mechanics and the overarching toughness mechanics.

That still doesn’t make sense … there is ALWAYS some mode in the game that is at a gold disadvantage, so that’s not a compelling reason to change this at all. I mean, no one ever went “Oh jeez, we need to nerf SW because when I’m in Caledon Forest, I’m at a gold disadvantage”. If it hasn’t been a problem for the last 4 years in other zones, then it’s not the reason it’s a problem here.

But I don’t recall any other map or event that has had the same level of loot as AB has. And I mean in terms of effort and time. So while you get less gold in Caledon Forest, it is reasonably similar proportion with regards to time and effort as Cursed Shore. AB is way beyond that. It needs to be brought down to a more comparable ratio.

Black Lion Chest with Bad Drops

Actually, they change what you can get from chests, so it doesn’t always have to be the same. And the fact that people might know that these items are possible to get doesn’t mean that they have to be happy with it.

There is two parts to what you just stated.

You are right that they change them on occasion, but they are always going to have very base things like transmutation charges and ToK. They are a staple and while they are “junk” to you, many people don’t come by those things as easily as you or I might. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

The second part concerns being happy with the possible contents of the BL chests. No, you don’t have to be happy about it. You don’t have to be happy about anything. But I see no point in being upset about something that is what it is. Being unhappy with possible drops really serves no purpose I can see.

No matter what the BL chests have for possible drops, there are always going to be people who do not like what is offered. I think we are dealing with a “get over it” moment here.

What simplesimon said (clarifying, it’s skill 2, not 1). The thing is the first part hops you forward, often to your doom. So you need to learn to stand back a bit from your intended launch point, put your cursor over your landing spot, press 2, wait a moment for the hop, then make sure your green target circle in on the landing spot and immediately press 2 again.

I haven’t got gold yet, but silver is fairly easy so long as I don’t mess up my aim on the three spots I use the 2-leap for. (those being at the top of the first slope, on the lattice of branches over the chasm, and from the base path up to the final checkpoint).

Im just back from time away – thanks for all these contributions!

Sorry to say ive tried one last time and failed again

- im ignoring the ‘direction’ the symbols ‘point’ – ive never been able to get them to splay out 360 degrees anyway they tend to all sit in front of me even with the camera as high as I can get ( unless I need to change my camera settings?) Ive also become more reliant on WP to try and cut down on time.

I think its simply down to the fact that my brain just sisnt processing WHERE ive come and where is left to try whenever a blue turns into a red because of wrong direction, or when a red fails to turn into a blue – annoying as kitten but I have to accept defeat

Thanks for all trying to get me there though ;D enjoy your swanky staff skins

What NOT to do

This sounds wrong but you don’t need to know where you are on the map or what direction you’ve come from. For this activity it doesn’t matter. You also don’t need to think about left and right or north/south/east/west. ALL that matters is going towards the symbols.

It’s hard to get your head around, especially if you’re used to worrying about your poor sense of direction (I’m only slightly dyslexic but it seems to affect that more than anything else) but I actually think once you get the hang of it this is easier than following normal directions.

I’ve done all 5 and most of the time I had absolutely no idea where I was, or where I’d come from or where I was going. But it didn’t matter, as long as I was going towards one of the symbols.

What to do

You also don’t need to make the symbols spread out around your character. You just need to make sure you’re in a place where they can appear anywhere around you – so standing still and not on a slope. (I found it worked best if I jumped onto a rock or something and then used the sensor.)

They appear close to you but directly between you and the sensor. So if one is right in front of you then you need to go in a straight line forwards. If it’s off to one side then you need to face in that direction and then go straight forwards.

The best thing to do is use the sensor, pick 1 mark and face towards it, then go in a straight line in that direction. As soon as the sensor recharges stop and repeat the process.

(But try to make sure you’re following the same one each time – it’s probably easiest if you pick one on the edge of the group, so all the rest will be off in a different direction next time you check.)

Again it doesn’t matter what that direction is. Don’t worry about if it’s pointing left or right or north or south or whatever. Apart from having to go around trees and mountains and things you can ignore where you’re going. Just keep going towards the symbols.

At first they will probably all be Red. This means they’re far away. As you get closer they will change to Blue and then to Yellow/Green (I think it’s yellow, other people say green.)

So you should go towards yellow ones first, then blue, then red. If they’re all red just pick one and go straight towards it until it changes to blue, then yellow.

When it’s yellow it gets harder because that means you’re very close. Try looking for the sensor on the ground, but they’re really hard to find. Don’t run very far, maybe just a few steps before using the sensor again to make sure you’re always going in the right direction and you’ll get there.

It might take practice (I had to do the 1st and last maps twice each) but once you get used to it, and can adjust to not worrying about where you are in the map, it’s not too difficult.

Thanks for the link. I must say, I’m a bit angry, Anet keeps doing dumb things without good reasons, or explanations why they do it… As a software developer I know all these deconstructions are executing same lines of code, which means they have 0 work to add all other missing infusions. If not… well then you know why the game is so often so buggy…

You may close or do whatever with this thread…

You’re being a bit unfair on Anet. Have you even read what they wrote? It was done for economic reasons.

You’re right about the coding… zero work. But as they explained in the post, they didn’t do that because it would destroy the value of all agony infusions. Your 14 AR would unlikely be worth a fraction of the 200+g it is selling for atm.

As for me? As long as there’s a way for me to disable it so I can’t get requests and people don’t keep asking in chat I probably wouldn’t mind. I’d prefer it to be kept away from already busy areas like banks, trading posts, and places where events are frequent though.

Guild banks and Customer Support

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Inculpatus cedo.9234

Inculpatus cedo.9234

If I may take a stab at answering that question….

For the most part, personal bank restorations are limited to once per account, and sometimes twice…

For guild banks, if that limitation were to be imposed, who gets the one-time restoration? The first person in the guild to suffer a compromise? The guild leader only? If it were either of those, what does CS say to anyone subsequently compromised? Sorry, the guild you belong to used up its one-time restoration last year? Or, sorry, you joined the guild too late?

If the CS Team takes the stance of restoring the guild bank each time any member of the guild is compromised, and said guild stored several highly-valued items, then those items would need to be restored over and over and over. And that would affect the game economy in a negative manner.

Thus, it is problematic to restore banks that can be shared by a large amount of players. And, it would not be fair to have one policy for very small guilds that might not experience multiple compromises, and a different policy for very large guilds that would be more prone to multiple compromises.

Guild banks and Customer Support

Hey everyone!

I’m GM Aurora and I’m here to give a brief overview about guild banks and the challenges they present from a customer support point of view. I won’t go into too much detail about our internal policies, but you should have a fair grasp about this topic after reading my post.

Guild banks are quite problematic for our team (even more so after the recent guild chapter merge). The biggest reason is that guild bank restorations could have a potentially huge economic impact. Imagine there are a number of highly valuable items in a bank, they get stolen, and we then restore the bank. Those items are now being duplicated and the economy takes a plunge because of it. Doing it once may not be very critical, but doing it over and over will have adverse effects on the prices of goods in the trading post, currency exchange, and so on.

So, with that said, how can you make your guild bank more secure? There are several things you can do. For starters, avoid putting items into the bank that are highly valuable. The other obvious thing to do is to not invite players into the guild that you don’t know or feel comfortable with. Now, this is all easier said than done and I understand and empathize with all of you, but it will minimize the potential to lose valuable items. The one thing that is often overlooked and that is probably the most important step to securing the guild bank is that guild leaders can set the rank permissions so that not everyone can take items out of the guild bank. This prevents a lot of misuse of the guild bank and will also make sure that items are safe until needed for guild events, guild missions or any other purpose you have in mind for them. And even if you’re not a guild leader or officer, you can help keep your bank secure by keeping your account secure! See this Knowledge Base article for more tips on account security.

Finally, all this is subject to change at any time because we are always working on improving the resources that are available to us. I’m not going to say that we will never restore guild banks, nor will I promise that we’ll be able to do it in the future, but I hope this post helps everyone to understand a little bit why we are currently not restoring guild banks.

why did you remove hearts

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Vayne.8563

Vayne.8563

Hearts are the same as events.

  • Hearts are done once per character/Events repeat
  • Hearts involve generic MMO PvE tasks like escort, collect and kill/events do also
  • Most hearts offer multiple types of tasks/Most events do not
  • Hearts are part of zone completion/Events are not

By your criteria, Hearts are also the same as dungeons, raids, and WvW PvD. If the criteria applied is that the content involves generic PvE tasks, then most PvE is the same.

Well no. Let’s say you have a gathering heart. You can do a gathering event. But you don’t have to do the event. That’s the real difference. If it’s a heart, you have no choice but to do it, if you want world completion. You must do it. But what you’re doing is the same.

Dungeons, raids and WvW are not the same, because they include elements that require more than a heart. Dungeons require more people. They’re harder. You can solo most events. Raids require even more. No one can solo a raid. WvW gives the chance to be attacked by enemy players. Neither hearts nor events do.

If I’m doing a collection event, no player can kill me, I don’t need 50 people helping, it’s pretty much the same thing as a collection heart, except that it’s optional. I can skip it. I don’t have to do it. And if I like it, I can do it over and over again.

So with a heart you do it once, and you can’t do it again, unless you make another character. But the activities you do, they’re the same….except for group events I get.

The point of this change IMHO is NOT to change the outcome of any matches.

The point of this change is, no matter when you login or what the weekly scores are, you can push to win the current 2 hr skirmish.

That is all. It is not some all encompassing fix. It is meant to give some meaning to your efforts and give people who need it, something to point at on the scoreboard.

People who play for weekly wins can, people who play for fights can. Further scoring changes to follow.

Good luck enjoy the game.

The initial post in this thread has some pretty unpleasant undertones. Our races are these: Human, Norn, Asura, Charr, and Sylvari. Whether they have, or an individual sees, certain similarities to races in the real world is irrelevant. They are what they are, and we are proud of the cultures they represent and the rich history they bring to Tyria.

Whether a representative is a major component of a story arc, or plays a secondary role, tokenism just really isn’t part of our story.

I am closing this thread. If someone fails to understand why, you’re welcome to contact us but somehow, I don’t think anyone will fail to see why the closure took place.

I think this could be several things:

First, I think that there are so many trolls on the internet that when many people see a post in chat saying that someone wants to give away something really nice, they assume its a troll. I know I do.

Second, I think that perhaps many people get on the game to do something specific. “Find me” could take a very long time with all the places to hide in a map. Or whatever your challenge is.

Finally, its not like doing your challenge = getting the prize. If 10 people participate but only 1 person gets the prize, people might think there is little chance of them actually getting anything for their effort.

This perfectly sums up my reasons.

Some times I might see something like that in map chat and think “Hey, this sounds fun, I’ll join in”. Other times I’m already in the middle of something and for whatever reason can’t drop it to go and join in (maybe people are waiting for me, maybe I have very little time to play that day). And sometimes I’m tired or in a bad mood or have had too many negative experiences with people lately and I’ll assume it’s a scam and ignore it.

None of which means it’s a bad idea. But it might be better to arrange these things with your guild/s and give people some notice ahead of time so if they’re interested they can make sure they’re online and free to participate.

not true.
what you said is true when you’re replacing an 18-slot with a 20-slot
but if you’re replacing a 20-slot with an 18-slot, it won’t work. it doesn’t even let you replace a 20-slot with an 18-slot if they are empty, you have to unequip it first:
the only way to replace them is to empty the 20-slot, unequip the 20-slot, equip the 18-slot, move all the items into the 18-slot.
