Same here OP, that and the combat system that GW2 has. DCUO also had a good one and I can imagine Tera has a decent one as well. Would not be able to play a game like WoW anymore. I tried SWTOR again a little ago, but it’s just so boring..
It’s really depressing to come to these forums and see people trying to destroy one of the few things I actually enjoy doing in this game.
I agree. What annoys me is that because people can’t beat tequatl on their terms they have to come here and complain of bad game design.
Tequatl requires a certain degree of coordination to overcome and you have people/guilds that do this very efficiently now, you need to think beyond your server.
One of my issues with this game is content is too easy, so I like this update.
In summary if you don’t like it DON’T DO IT and if you want to do it then be PRO-ACTIVE and get with people that are happy to coordinate and have yourself a win.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
While there’s still a lot to be desired from these updates I must admit this most recent one strung a cord. I think the Tower of Nightmare is absolutely fantastic!
While I’ve heard a bit negativity towards the tower and I won’t dismiss it like it’s not there, I do think a lot more right things were done than wrong this time.
As far as the actual experience goes, finally an engaging fun and immersive gameplay experience that GW2 needs desperately.
At first I was a bit hesitant with the open world aspect of it worrying it’d be nothing more than a zerg train (I understand to some people it is), however though there is a zerg or two in there from time to time for the most part you’ll see smaller groups of players more than anything else.
The tower is engaging and challenging without being cheap. It lets the player explore and take the route they wish, giving much desired control and illusion of choice to the player. There are fun little instances to look for as you’re carefully traveling around in there and so on.
I appreciate the feeling of progression and safety the tower gives you every time you find yourself back in the center, until finally you reach that glorious climb to the top at the end. I do wish there were a few more levels with a bit more to experience but as it is it’s pretty fantastic.
I’ve heard the common complaint that it’s too difficult and can’t be done without a zerg, however often times I hear that coming from glass builds running solo.
Me and one other friend alone managed to get from floor 1 to floor 3 before our first death. Here’s the thing, there is challenge in here and it is difficult, but it’s honestly not that bad once you know what not to do.
We both moved slowly and carefully, killing little by little while not rushing ahead aimlessly, looking at where we were going and picking a route. The only times we actually needed help were with the group events (naturally), but when we came across those we’d just call in the map or look around for downed players and quickly enough at least a few would show up to help and that’d be enough.
The way the tower’s gameplay and experience works should be taken as an inspiration towards future updates. Not saying make dozens of copies of the tower, that’ll make it repetitive and boring, much like what happened with the LS.
All in all, though there’s still the common issues of lack of replayability, low rewards (that’s the issue of there not even existing rewards reasonable to actually give out to players in GW2), and too quick to finish everything, it’s still overall a very enjoyable experience.
The very first thing I noticed when I started playing GW2 was the incredibly competent way updates were handled. The game I used to play, every new update or patch required hours of downtime. And then I start playing this one, and it just lets me keep playing for up to an hour and then I just switch to the patched version at my leisure? I was shocked.
Once again, people will complain about ANYTHING.
Ditto. First few times I went through the patching experience here I was like "Is this for real? No downtime? SERIOUSLY?
"
If I have to choose between 1-6 hours of server downtime or a relog, I choose a relog.
I tried to play some subscription based MMOs, and they couldn’t keep the content coming fast enough. I’m spoiled by GW2’s updates every 2 weeks.
I won’t pay a sub because the one I have played ended costing me a fortune for game content on top of the sub.
I don’t like the trinity, I don’t like having my class tied to race and I hate being forced to group.
I don’t like FtP games because they mostly suck and have horrible communities
So yes I love GW2
I tend to get upset and comment about when things are broken or being nerfed in PvE bc’s of wvw so to balance it out i wanted to just say “Thank You” because it was well over due!
so THANK YOU !!!
Thank you for this Living Story. It seemed a little slow getting off the ground during Halloween but I am really enjoying it so far. Thank you for the hard work, new mini, new back and head items, new weapon skins X2, new enemies, new friends (okay well they aren’t new but it’s nice to see them again), new concepts, new skill (doesn’t seem very helpful though), new content, new event chains, new strange place, new great cut scenes with awesome artwork (Thank you art team!!!), new diving goggles, new achievements, new yet strange thing for home instance, new condition, lots of new and less recycled and lots of thanks!
I think this and the queens gauntlet have been my favs so far.
Thanks again !
I’m happy with GW2 when it comes to paying them. I like to support the game, so I will spend $10/mo IF there is something I want to buy that month. Still less than I paid for WoW and I feel like I’m getting more out of it while also paying less.
You CAN spend a lot more than $10/mo on GW2, I’m sure – but you can also spend $0/mo. I took a few months off to work on some personal projects and it was nice to not have to cancel a sub and then reinstate it – I just stopped and then came back when I wanted to.
It works for me, maybe not everyone else. That’s why there are different formats out there. I know I don’t like “Free to Play” in general – but some people must find that works for them because those games exist and people do play them. Whatever works for whoever.
I won’t play an MMO if it doesn’t have autogrouping and scaling. I want to play with my friends even if they put more time in, and I want to do this without rolling alts or having a huge power gap.
I won’t play an MMO that doesn’t let me dodge. I’m sick of getting stabbed from across the room.
GW2 has pretty much rendered me unable to play any of the previous mmo’s I used to play simply because, I can’t move myself to pay a monthly fee anymore.
With all this game has to offer, the amazing graphics and game play, constant new updates and material to play, I just can’t seem to move myself to pay for a sub from games ( which I will not name do to the rules of this forum ) that aren’t half as good as this one. GW2 has made me a true supporter of the BUY TO PLAY mmo genre.
If there are any other BUY TO PLAY mmo’s out there as good as this one, please, let me know what they are, I would like to support them the same way I support GW2. If naming those games on this forum is against the rules shoot me a pm.
Thanks.
I don’t see the point of this post but I agree with all but the new content, not against it but hate the rush or lose policy. The whole point of B2P is not to be forced to play to avoid missing content.
Anyways, the dodge system, the ability to fight while moving, the lack of endless LF DPS/Healer and WTS spam, the stunning graphics/animation (though the seems to screw a little that) and the “we will not milk you like a cheap cow every single month so you can kill the same re-skinned mobs over and over” is what keep me from playing other games.

Umm.. this is a video game. Shouldn’t we be having fun every day???
For Tequatl, yes I too feel he needs to be scaled back. It was fun for a temporary challenge but, after 2 weeks it should have reverted back.
I am having fun killing Tequatl everyday as it is now. You have 15 other world bosses you can go auto-attack.
I was going for a TTS overflow the other day and ended up in a pug overflow that killed it with time to spare. The people going for it now know what they’re doing so that even pug maps are doing it. Without all the lazy auto-attackers, people who refuse to wp when dead or move off a turret when they dont know what theyre doing, you’re pretty well guaranteed success.
Everyone could do this daily. Playerbase is hurting themselves in this case. You now have a set spawn time, so you even know when to go.
It’s really depressing to come to these forums and see people trying to destroy one of the few things I actually enjoy doing in this game (fractals, Tequatl and WvW are about all I do in this game). But as long as you have fun, who cares if it ruins it for someone else, right? 15+ easy mode bosses isn’t enough, obviously.
The new Twilight Arbor path can drop special weapons..

Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
It’s called an incentive to get a player to come back. Pretty much every MMO does this. I can’t even count the number of free months/$5 months that I’ve gotten in EvE.
Overheard a couple Asura researchers in Lions Arch today after the update talking about Scarlett. They’ve been able to uncover a couple things that could give some insight into her past. It seems that, aside from her venomous personality she’s actually quite venomous herself. If she bites you she can release a fairly potent sedative that can knock out a Norn for nearly a week. But even worse, apparently her skin contains many small thorns that release a powerful neurotoxin. There’s enough venom in a single thorn to kill a dozen men. So yes, what we’ve heard is true… her bark is worse than her bite.
Well done!!!!
Will spend some loot on them even if I don’t like the skins to encourage more of this from ANET!
WOOOOT!!!!
I’m loving it and you should be too ffs! Ugh why do I even bother coming onto the forums when there’s stupid qq and drivel everywhere lol, this update is pretty awesome if nothing else than that it’s original compared to the other stuff that’s been released recently. I thought the whole tower would be one giant instance, but it’s exactly like OP said, the meshing of open world and dungeon is really, really awesome. And it’s actually not totally facerollable content which is freaking fantastic, you actually have to engage your brain to make it to the top without getting a whole bunch of nasty things on ya.
Great work Arenanet ! People not enjoying themselves, heck I dunno, get the freaking antitoxin spray healing skill and l2p? Like for real guys it’s not that difficult lol
Raids NO THANKS!
Gear Treadmill NO THANKS!
I left FFXI for a reason!
Give us new Campaign and zones to explore!
We have Raids already and it’s called world bosses and dynamic events and WvW which is the entire game.
Just, NO Raids from old school traditional mmos plz!
Now this is customer service!
Don’t walk into the spore mines… They show a clear AoE marker around them and pop few seconds later.
AMAZING-loved every second of it, worth the run up there^-^.
I am really enjoying it. The maze is great. Such a fun time. The instanced parts are fantastic and the cutscenes are top-notch. Thank you ArenaNet. I am impressed.
If anyone of you watched Sword Arts Online (anime), Then you will see the resemblance of a tower with levels to clear. I am so excited as for how people interact with the nightmare tower. Huge zerk on lower levels of the tower, and then you begin to split up as you progress tower floors, just like SAO. AWESOME JOB AREANET! Love this game and the anime, best of both worlds haha.
Finally! Now I can buy the new sets and put them on appropriate characters, without worrying that I’ll be forced into a certain look.
What they didn’t realize, is that most of us would gladly buy all the permanent tools (with new skins) just to have different skins from time to time.
What we do not want, is to be forced into Soul Bound items.
Please, please, make Legendary Weapons account bound next. That way I can have a reasoning for buying new Legendaries.

I can totally agree with you. The tower and the story dungeon were both a lot of fun and nicely designed. Well done A-Net
