EU = heroes NA = behind the meta

This wts was honestly just a classic case of egomania becoming too much. EU has been going years of firmly believing they are vastly superior to NA and tcg just didn’t practice nor care as much bc they believed that NA would be such a easy pushover. They came into the not nearly prepared as the Abjured was, who have been practicing endlessly scrimming with Absurd and other teams.
Tcg is composed of great players but they just let their egos get the best of them and it cost them. Hopefully now, we will see a different attitude towards the NA side of things.

I honestly don’t think that’s true. Not to insult you or anything, just that both ROM and Helseth talked about how much they practiced, Grouch talked about how much they practiced and we’ve all seen sizer scrim for hours on stream and he did his job at the tournament well. Even the weekly cups were a wakeup call to TCG and they came out on top the last one. Now if TCG says they didn’t practice enough, then I’ll shut right up, but I really feel like it came down to better rotation and counter strategy on the Abjured’s part. Plus it’s a pressure marathon for all teams involved with the WTS with those back-to-back matches. I think we saw that it takes a lot more than mechanical skill and good communication to make it at that highest level. Sometimes you just have to have more mettle than the other guy. Sometimes you are lucky enough to play your absolute best game under pressure.

Ele is tricky until you get good at “stance dancing,” though, and is the most squishy profession. Still, try out a few to see what feels fun to you.

Also, this game is the opposite of AA in many ways. There is no node stealing, pvp only happens in consensual areas, griefing gets you suspended or banned, everyone who tags a mob gets kill credit and loot, anyone can rez anyone else (and should especially if they’re only downed not dead, you get xp for it, plus then you have more firepower handy for your fight). You get scaled down in lower level zones so you can’t just face roll them (ideally, that is; in practice a scaled down 80 just has better base gear and abilities, but it’s not like nothing can hurt you). The game does not create have and have-nots. No labor mechanic, no limits on necessary game items to those who pay real cash. Cosmetics, sure, there are armor skins you can’t get from game play, though you can save enough gold to get the gems to buy the skins if you want to avoid spending cash. But all they do is change what you look like; you cannot buy better stats.

Welcome to Tyria! I hope you find the cooperative nature of the game to be a refreshing change.

A Death in Tyria - Memorial Service

I’d been away from the game for a while, but I knew when I came back, Eris would reliably be there. He was a rock for Gunnar’s in WvW, ever present and ever active, always helpful and always a gentleman. I wholeheartedly wish he had been there when I logged in yesterday.

As a guildmate he kept us balanced, as an officer he kept things calm, and as a friend he kept us smiling.

The memorial yesterday was a lovely tribute. I was so glad I was able to make it back and see so many of the Gunnar’s community, old and new, come together to remember Eris, in the Borderland that wont be able to forget him.

Ah ha! So the team is aware of this issue and will be adding it to the bug list very soon.

I guess y’all know this, but it’s supposed to say:

  • 2 Warrior Pieces of Warrior Gear for Warrior-y Warriors

Ok, fine, I jest. We’ll get that fixed and to all those who hit the ladybug in the game, extra thanks!!

There was a post about this with a dev response that it came down to a synching issue if multiple people were using the bank at the same time. Can’t seem to find it at the moment though.

Congrats to Abjured! Both teams were awesome though and I really enjoyed all the matches, they were hard fought and not one-sided at all!

I also wanna join in thanking ChroNick and Jebro for stepping in and saving the day. I know we could’ve all watched the Chinese stream or waited for Blu to upload the replay, but live with two enthusiastic commentators and the chat exploding in OMGWTFBBQs with every clutch play is infinitely better! Just goes to show, we don’t need glitz, dancers, and boy bands for esports, we just need to watch it live in the company of other people who are passionate about the game. That’s what makes it a sport: your fellow fans!

Guild Bank Changes are Frustrating

This is really frustrating and I can’t see the purpose of requiring the guild leader to be a member for 3 days just to deposit money. Now I am stuck for 3 days unable to deposit money. I hope this isn’t an anti-storage guild measure.

It is not. It is an anti-gold-seller feature. This, as well as a minimum age limit to gold and item mailing, exists to prevent laundering of money (or at least make it harder).
Or at least that’s how it got once explained anyway.

Actions, not words.

Pet Peeve - Cryptic/Misleading Topic Titles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nutjob.9021

Nutjob.9021

I have a pet peeve regarding topic titles in these forums. I don’t like to have to open up a post to figure out what the subject of the post is. I also don’t like it when the title pulls me in only to discover that it has little relevance to the content of the post.

Once I read a posting in one of the GW2 forums (I don’t even remember what it was about) that had a title that implied that the ANet apocalypse was at hand and that the streets would soon flow red with the blood of the unbelievers. Okay, I may have exaggerated a bit with that description. When I opened said post, there was one little trivial thing the poster did not like about some recent GW2 developments. A misleading title got me to waste time reading something I had zero interest in! This is not Yahoo news!

Vague titles like “Can Someone Please Help” or “Does Anyone Else Have This Problem?” I just ignore. There’s a good chance I could help the poster, but I’m not going to waste my time diving into a poorly described topic.

I realize that the title window is small. Maybe you think you need a title like, “I hate how difficult it is to navigate jumping puzzles with my Charr character because of his size and animations.” So, instead of condensing that down to something like, “Charr Problems With JP’s” you write, “ANet hates Charr!” or “GW2 is Doomed!” and we are supposed to open your topic to figure out what you are talking about.

Has one of your postings vanished into obscurity with little or no response? Maybe the reason isn’t poor content, but a poor choice of title.

think anet should charge a sub

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Flanar.5981

Flanar.5981

How about no sub and try to be nothing like wow as it is a failure as a template due to the inability for anyone to recreate its success. It should never be used as a model because the gameplay isnt its strong point. The investment of the players and atmosphere are and you cant copy that without copyright infringement. The only mmo that can follow that old crap model is wow 2 with all the characters and places the fans love.
Simple fact is content and gameplay in gw is just all around better and should be the mainstream model such as upcoming Black Desert Online is doing modeling gw combat which i totally agree with.
There will never be another wow situation even for blizzard because it was at a good time for release and they built the atmosphere over a decade with the RTS warcraft games. Gameplay is dated and nothing to lose yourself over… Basically why I left

This.

WoW have been the “first MMO” for a lot of people. Many of WoW’s playerbase is their playerbase because of nostalgia, friends or because they think that they have invested a lot in the game to leave it and go now. Thats how WoW is retaining most of it’s playerbase.

WoW, compared to the newer game is really lagging. The combat feels static, the world feels ancient (even WoD) and the community is full of “elitist”.
Don’t get me wrong, I have played WoW for a good amount of time but it doesnt just feel “exciting” to me. And thats my opinion.

As far as sub or no-sub. I think I would pay as content delivers, and not be an “angel investor”- Pay and HOPE they make something. Its only fair

Matchmaking Changes: 12/3

Evan and I got together and took another look at the data and have decided on some matchmaking changes.

We’re upping the minimum potentials filter setting from ‘1’ to ‘20’. This means the queue will have you wait when customizing a match for you until we have 20 or more potential player matches. We had this previously set to 1 to have matches start as quickly as possible.

We’re increasing the penalty for roster (read: party) size distance from ‘-100’ to ‘-500’. This means parties of different sizes are less likely to be matched.

We’re decreasing the penalty for ratings distance from ‘-25’ to ‘-5’. We found matches were already really close together and felt this penalty was too strict.

We’re increasing the penalty for duplicate professions from ‘-200’ to ‘-500’, and increasing the bonus for playing a unique (read: only one on team) from ‘100’ to ‘500’. Hopefully this will reduce the number of duplicate professions seen.

As always, let me know how this plays and if you can feel a difference.

Thanks.

Please, allow us to skip cut scenes.

There’s a bigger technical issue—during “in game” scenes, the NPCs are moving around and things are happening (gadgets might be activating, props may be animating, etc.) and if you just skipped all that, it could lead to some really bizarre behavior. Trying to manually set a “failsafe” to teleport the NPCs, fire off effects, etc. to replicate what the world state is if the cutscene plays is extremely tedious and error prone.

That’s why the old style “dialogue cutscenes” (and the fancy but rare full blown cinematic sequences, like the Order movies and racial intros) are skippable, because we aren’t doing anything to the world while the dialogue plays, so skipping it doesn’t have any effect. We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off.

Well, maybe there could be a one second lingering effect after the elemental spawns, while leaving it active from the get-go?

I would suggest changing “sucks” to “could be better” or “needs improvement” or “is lacking.” Antagonistic insults will get you much less dev attention.

This is the game I waited for for years. This is the game I beta-tested.

It is not the game we have now.

You must have beta-tested a completely different game then. Because the game that the rest of us beta-tested was quite similar to the game we have now, with quite a bit of improvements thrown in.

Thank you! I hope you’ll also consider keeping BLTC distinct, but this is a very good change.

I will pass along your thanks to Mike and Colin, who ultimately made the decision. I’m really happy that they supported the change!

As to the BLTC or some forum related to the economy, I see your point and in fact I want to talk about that over the next couple of days. Clearly, we can’t move to reorganize and consolidate our forums and then spin up the exact same number of forums. On the other hand, just as there was a case to be made for retaining Dungeons (and actually expanding it to be more useful by adding Fractals), there may be a case for something economy-ish as well.

I won’t know about this for a few days, so please bear with me.

think anet should charge a sub

Hardly any new content?!!!!!!!!! look at what other Sub based MMO’s (looking at you WoW) put out in their first 2 years and GW2 is either on par with them or blows them out of the water. All for free!!

And if you think GW2 is exceptionally buggy then you must be new to the MMO genre. It’s about the same with any other MMO I have played. Especially with new patches.

In 2 yrs wow had an expansion not some gimmick LS
Every game is buggy, but anet takes forever to fix them.

In two years, WoW had an expansion which anyone can complete in about 2 days. No new gameplay, predictable storyline. Buggy launch, and still buggy features (main features which is actually needed to proceed). Also with every expansion, old content is obsolete.

I like how GW2 is. I am not a fan of LS and love dungeons, but I still like it better than other MMOs out there. I can only wish there were more dungeons in this game. I would be happy to just hear that they have new dungeons in their plans.

I was curious about that to… There’s at least 2 white knights nearly everyone here is familiar with, as well as a handful depending on where you spend most of your time.
I don’t know what countries they’re in, so maybe it doesn’t matter but letting the white knights get some kind of backing (even if only in their heads) is a bad idea.
I love gw2, I’ve been here since pre-beta, I white knighted the Facebook page for months during the beta, so I understand white knights and this is a really bad idea if you let someone who cannot look at both sides of the coin be in charge of reporting to Anet…

Other comment, I thought about applying; but it sounds an awful lot like another job, but with none of the benefits.

This post is a great example of other problems. If the forum mods come in and try to bring in a healthy debate, what they say or who they are will soon enough be labeled as “white knights”. And that Anet only chooses “white knights” to run the program. If anything, that word and term is getting thrown around too much, that if someone agrees with one thing with Anet, they are labeled a white knight nowadays.
