If anything, I believe more posting from the Anet side on the forums will only bring out more of the vitriol in people that don’t get what they want. Aside from some very specific knowledge (I like how JS handles things), they shouldn’t say anything.

Which, if I remember correctly, is what happened to the CDIs. And now look, those are gone. I miss Chris :’(

As for john, I know why he got flack for his one comment, but I thought it was so cool that he did it.

we like the fact that it rains, theres day/night and snow…..but i wana see a little bit more, like a desert storm :o…..or an occasional blizzard in the heavy snow areas (same thing as the rain). i know there are areas of heavy snow n stuff, but a little more impact wouldnt hurt….and maybe a giant ruin in the middle of the dessert….stuff like that. how awesome would it be to be walking through a desert where its hard to see far away and all of a sudden you run into some tall tower…

I sent this email to ArenaNet yesterday and was advised to post something on the forum in the hopes that a developer might come across my “suggestions”.

I searched for a similar thread I could add this too, but either the search function hates me or it hasn’t been talked about in a while, so forgive me if it has been discussed before

I have never been on these forums, so please be gentle, lol!

Here goes:

“Cry Of Frustration”

“So we meet again,

I felt moved to write you this message after browsing through my wardrobe tonight. Today was the first time I ever created a male character (the scars are great!) and as I dressed him in my Arah armor I was shocked by the glory that was the male model of this particular armor set. When my female guardian prances around PVP arenas in nothing but an array of bones, held together by what I can only assume to be prehistoric gum, I don’t feel as intimidating and spectacular as I did when I put the same outfit on my male character.

Please, please, please make it possible for us females (real life females or those playing one of us in game) to choose between the bikini and bad-a versions of armors.

Now, I can hear you exclaim “But what if the players who create male characters start demanding bikinis in turn?”…the answer to that I don’t know, although I have seen some outfits that come close to that, I don’t believe it would necessarily be an issue. Female Asura as well as Charr enjoy the male “versions” of the most beautiful heavy armors in game and I have never heard a male Charr or Asura scream for iron bloomers.

While we are on the subject, I firmly believe the human females need a bit more variety, as far as their body types are concerned…at the very least, please balance out the healthiest body type to be available with corresponding proportions (I know, you know what I mean :o).

I love this game, but come on…Arah gear on a female with a skeleton holding their goods..nooo. Please consider an option to equip the “male” version of armors…would you storm into battle with a golden brazier that focuses all of the impact on your sternum…or leap into a brawl wearing a tiny non-skirt and a garter?…No, ArenaNet, you would not…

Respectfully yours,

Brui"—-

P.S. I decided to just post my original message because I didn’t feel like picking it apart and creating a list…sorry!…and thanks for reading!

Probably the Star Wars fans, the ones as dedicated as here that are mad, do lash out and are mad at those inconsistancies however small they are.

In this case though, we’re not mad about small inconsistencies. We’re mad about articles like this one:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadows_in_the_Water_%E2%80%93_The_Krait

Which according to Bobby, could now be completely discarded, since it isn’t in-game. If all of the official articles released by Anet are subject to change, because they aren’t in-game, then what the point of releasing the articles? How is the lore community supposed to make any sense of it all? Do lore articles and interviews still have value then?

If you’ve spend the last 7 years gathering a wealth of Guild Wars lore, based on 60% out-of-game sources (and I’m just throwing out a rough percentage here), and suddenly the writers declare that all of that could be changed at the tip of a hat, then you can imagine why some of the lore fans are upset.

Edit: Still haven’t gotten an anwser as why it is thought that Bloodstones are retconned.

Angel stated as such on the forum. She basically stated that the humans back then believed that the Bloodstones brought all magic to Tyria, but they were wrong. It’s a pretty blatant retcon to completely invalidate the GW1 manuscripts. And it makes me furious. The entire Flameseeker Prophecies revolves around this plot point. The entirely of Guild Wars 1 is about the importance of the Bloodstones, and their effect on Tyria. It has changed the landscape (like the Maguuma Jungle), causing the water to have healing abilities, and various factions are fighting over it. The White Mantle, the Mursaat, the Shining Blade. Pretty much all of the big factions in GW1 are concerned with the Bloodstones because they are this powerful. And we haven’t even found all of the Bloodstones yet, including the keystone. This was a pretty big thing. But apparently the writers have decided that in favor of a multi-race game they don’t want to deal with the human gods or the Bloodstones any more. So it has been completely thrown out the window. The entire story of GW1 was a joke apparently, based on the ignorance of the humans back then. Yeah, good job writing team. Have some bloody respect for your own lore.

And the calendar thing… 5 days? Is it really THAT kitten important? It’s been months and some of the people here can’t forget that like if it was some major lore breaking point. It’s not good, but wow, it’s not THAT bad.

I’m less upset about the calender, and more about the trend. I want the writers to respect established lore, which shouldn’t be a hard thing to do. You can easily write around established lore, that’s what it is there for.

Problem is I’ve learnt more about the Guild Wars universe from outside of the game and to be told that now none of the articals, manuscripts, interviews etc hold any weight… I’m now left to wonder what they expect us the ones whom enjoy the story and get invested in the story are going to do.
It is clear that the writing team doesn’t know how to convey this in game, so I’m wondering why did they bother to invest in things like the atlas, the blogs, the short story’s, the countless interviews they have done.

So what is left for me to say it’s a sad day to lose Konig as he and many others have helped the writing team convey there message outside of the game because most of the subtile hints that they left in-game was too small.

Good job Bobby and co for destroying the lore comunity. Not to give to much negative feed back though I did enjoy the 1st instalment of Ls2, wasn’t perfect but I expected that from playing Ls1.

For those people who don’t understand, this isn’t about any bit of lore, it is about time. People don’t like investing time in something and then not getting personal fulfillment from that time investment. People invest time into MMOs in a lot of different ways and can often be disappointed. Some people have invested time into this MMO’s lore.

I have loved this game and its lore for 7 strong years. I didn’t even take a break from playing GW1 until GW2 came out since I started playing at the beginning of July 2006. It wasn’t until last winter that I took a break from GW2. You managed to undo 7 years of strong followship in a single year. I suppose it is only fair that just after my 8th anniversary of playing this game, you go and put in what seems to be the final nail in the coffin for GW’s lore. I loved the game, Bobby, I loved the story. I joined the Test Krewe the moment I could because of such, and defended Anet and did other things that I cannot speak about due to NDA because of my love for the game and its story. But now? That love has all but gone, Bobby, destroyed by the utter clusterkitten to the lore that Scarlet Briar was (and what the kitten is with that over propagandizing of Scarlet? She’s not a good character, stop trying to pretend she is – Abaddon and Shiro were far better villains, and they never got an ounce of the attention Scarlet’s getting), and now by further contradictions and now outright making old lore “malleable”.

Old, established lore are the pillars of a continuing story. A poor writer does retroactive continuities. A good writer works in a way to explain why old ‘facts’ became ‘lies’ and uses that to boost the story. A great writer puts in what they want while not destroying the established pillars of the story. GW1 throughout its lifespan did the last; GW2 at release did the middle; and the Living Story is the first.

I don’t think I even want to play the game anymore, Bobby. I truly don’t. I think this will end up being my last post on the forums. For now, though, I’ll continue log in to unlock the future stories, and I’ll stalk the forums – only in hopes that you (ArenaNet’s writers) and Guild Wars returns to being a great story made by great writers.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Tengu schmengu… give me playable snake-tailed Naga! There’s plenty of water so they could pop up anywhere! Maybe in the underwater expansion… assuming the sea dragon doesn’t decide to be lame and actually surface for us to fight it, or the ArenaNet not go the easy route and merely shove us into “submarine” (portal) that ports us to some cave with it. Now that would be underwhelming!

Exclusive content idea for paying customers

Looking back to my time with Guild Wars 1, I really enjoyed the stories in the Bonus Mission Pack. These were missions that had no impact on the original game or story, but did give some nice lore background, along with unique rewards. It only cost $10 to add to your account, so it was affordable.

Anet should consider doing more of these optional paid content for GW2. With the current storylines in place, there could be options to play as one of the characters in the Destiny’s Edge history. Play in Snaff’s past, or perhaps Caithe’s backstory. See Rytlock’s rise, or Logan’s fight to save the Queen. With Gems, all players could get access to bonus missions without having to pay real money. Taking this idea to the next level, players who do buy Gems with real money should get bonus, exclusive content! Something like a consumable that grants the ability to wear two full rune sets on armor.

Anyway, this could be a way to start a CDI on future paid content ideas. How do people feel about this?

Monthly fees, GW2’s one buying point is that it has no monthly fees.

If such were to be introduced to GW2, it’s a death sentence to the game, and would very likely lead into closing of the servers very soon…

Your idea: P2W, since free players woulnd’t be able to gain required resources needed. Like some already said: farm like nolife…
ANet designed GW2 so that you move around the game world and gain resources as you play, not that you stay in 1 map and farm champion train.

I am already willing to buy the next expansion, because the game is good and developing, and has no monthly fees.

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Your idea : You can pay to farm like a nolife

Definitively better for people and Arena.net to stay with the current system ! Same result, less farming, less boring.

I disagree with this entirely the whole guildwars model was built around “no subscription fee ever” and by adding something like they will cause a huge negative uproar to pretty much 90% of the community who are casual.

There are diminishing returns in place for a reason, if by giving select few who pay benefits to farm so much gold very quickly, which they would if given the chance it would completely destroy the economy, for example If the farmers pay this amount to farm all the time and get so much gold, the gold will slowly become less and less valuable and prices will rise on the trading post because people can just buy anything. Then there are the people without these privileges, struggling to ever keep up with the constant price rises and never being able to afford items they may want from the trading post.

It creates a divide which isn’t wanted or needed in guildwars.
You say how simple it is yet you haven’t even bothered thinking about the effects that it can have on the game in a whole, yes it may create revenue for anet, but they will also lose half of their playerbase in the process. which probably isn’t worth it.

The problem with organising. (Europe problem)

in Living World

Posted by: Meemai.7523

Meemai.7523

As always people from the USA think about the USA most….

Let me call out some problems with this event, first of you made German, French and English servers, I believe there is even a Spanish one? Of course nice your thinking about Europe, and giving players with different languages a chance. However then you introduce a language filter system so if I so desire I can block all different language clients.

And then you kick them all in one boss and expect them to do events that require organisation together. The problem here is, most cannot even read what you say because they filtered on German/English/French/Spanish only or whatever.

In Guild wars 1 events would be nicer you could do them in groups, presents would fall out of the sky or they would be easy enough to do. I plead for instances like you do in story modes, make a looking for group system for those without friends lik me.

But what the event is now: Bascily you deleted the queensdale train and what has happened? Well the pavilion became a queensdale train… Which means farming tickets is very slow, getting a rare drop from the bags is very, very rare I opened over 300 but nothing as of far.

I don’t know what your doing but when the devs said they wanted to create events in which everyone works together and can be excited over a dragon… Well you just made somethign like pavillion which is frustrating, because you have to organise people with different language filters, people that cannot speak English or people. As I am typing this I am getting a whisper in game, in French that askes me how I killed Liadri…… Now I want to help him but I do not know how to say bomb kit in English.

Anyway moving on… It’s frustrating to organise those people and then it’s even more frustrating to deal with people that won’t listen, so y ou need a big guild of 80 people to do it, but how many guilds have 80 people?

A group hower can be quickly formed, we know fractals are hard and challenging and they are nice to do they make me excited to move to higher levels etc. But since it is the only challenging thing to do you do it everyday and after a week or 2 you get bored.

However a event in which I just brainlessly spam a skill and know it will take long without it being effective. I mean the gauntlet is cool killing Liadri is good, when I killed Liadri I was like YES when I killed the pavilion bosses I was like ’ I’m out of here.’ But then you need more tickets and have to stay.. Please learn from this feedback make it less zerg orientated please.

At least give Europe 2 minutes extra time in comparision to USA because we have language issues. Or stop putting me in a French overflow, when I am in a English server….

New hairstyles?

in Black Lion Trading Co

StinVec.3621

I’ve not come across anything that points to additional hair styles being released soon.

Also, they are unlikely to release new hair styles so soon after releasing “new” faces to the total makeover kits. They would likely release both at the same time or have their releases span several weeks to months so the new styles would release after the initial makeover kit sales boost died down from the previous release.

They likely have at least a dozen finished styles of faces and hair ‘on the shelf’, but only release 3 of one at a time to stretch out the releases to maximize the boost to makeover kit sales, and thus a mostly reliable boost in gem sales.

Not directly related to your topic:

I really wish they would start adding in other exclusive makeover kit features like:

Charr:

  • Horns
  • Tails
  • Fur markings
  • Piercings/Horn decorations
  • Tail decorations/attachments

Norn:

  • Tattoos/scars
  • Piercings
  • Facial hair styles
(I don’t think new hairstyles have ever included new facial hair styles, have they?)

Asura:

  • Ears
  • Piercings
  • Skin patterns
  • Tattoos/scars

Sylvari:

  • Piercings/Ornamentation
  • Bark(?) markings/Patterns
  • Bark style (currently can choose between two types)
  • Glow Enhancements (always on; colors; styles like fading wave from toe to head instead of pulsating; other)
  • Bark etchings (tattoos :P)

Human:

  • Tattoos/scars
  • Piercings
  • Facial hair styles

Lions arch should never be rebuild

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Cormac.3871

Cormac.3871

The previous aesthetic for Lion’s Arch was reclaimed ship. It will be interesting to see what they go with this time around. They could totally build the entire city just from the greatswords thrown into Zomoross’ forge. The could build a seat for the head of the Captains Council from them and….

In all seriousness, it would be very easy for the design team to end up making a pretty generic human style city, and I hope they don’t. I hope it ends up a mish mash of all 5 racial styles, and have the council chambers made from a decommissioned ship.

Problems with the newly-added faces

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

I am always pleased to see newly-added faces to our character creation selection. However, this update’s round of new faces has shown some troubling trends.

First and foremost, the re-use of old faces, with minor edits. While there is nothing wrong with this being done sometimes, arenanet needs to be cautious. In the past, they have cut corners with regards to character appearance. Arenanet needs to keep in mind that, while some re-used faces are fine and even desirable, this is no excuse for them to stop developing entirely new ones.

Secondly, the issue with the asuran faces. Of all the races, asura are the most androgynous. The other races have gender differences in both body AND face. Asura, on the other hand, only have facial differences—their bodies are all the same. An asura’s face is its most important trait—far more so then the other races. As such, it is very, very important to design asuran faces without cutting corners.
The fact that the new asura faces for males and females are the same isn’t okay. It’s not about gender. In fact, I like the idea of having faces that are the same across both sexes. It allows characters to not be defined by their gender. However, these faces were not added to promote gender equality. They were added because of sheer laziness. And that’s what isn’t okay—the laziness. The fact that corners are cut—and on a race where facial distinction is so vital.

And lastly, the fact that new faces were added in the first place, when the old faces are still so glitchy. Take the charr, for example. On some of the faces which were added previously, the teeth clip horribly into the face, headgear does not fit, and lip movement is glitchy. On one of the male faces, the teeth are so terrible it’s just about unusable. Before adding new faces, with the same glitch problems, arenanet needs to fix the last ones they added.

Why would you quit GW2 in 2014?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

I would not move to another MMO/game. If anything I would just use the hours that I spend in this game every day on something more constructive in my life. Maybe come back when I see the first expansion on a shelf in 2017.

Reasons I may leave:

  • Megaservers
    – Lack of community/server identity
    – Guilds being ripped apart constantly
    – Zergs so large that my computer freezes up and all I see is a blob
of 80+ people making a “Legendary” world boss melt like butter.
    – Events that I can’t do because they aren’t up ever, because now
camping at Temples is the new “thing” to do.
  • Lack of new content/Tyria largely unexplored after 2 years.
    – Isle of Janthir
    – Janthir Bay
    – Woodland Cascades
    – Far Shiverpeaks
    – Blood Legion Homelands
    – Blazeridge Mountains
    – Maguuma Wastes
    – Magus Falls
    – Sea of Sorrows
    – Deldrimor Front
    – Crystal Desert
    – Elon River
    – Scavenger’s Causeway
    – Ring of Fire
  • Boss Timer schedule and ArenaNet supported MegaZerg Champ Train.
  • WvW
    – Maps pretty much the same since launch. I wouldn’t mind them
dropping a Scarlet/LA sized bomb on the lot of them and redoing
it like they’re doing with LA now.
    – Blob vs Blob warfare.

That’s primarily it.
Oh and I don’t count Southsun as being new content, before anyone jumps in to say otherwise. It even to this day seems very kitten. None of it effects Tyrian completion, it has no heart quests and no real colonization (people/NPCs) to make it feel alive. All it is to me is the location for the ‘Not so Legendary’ Karka Queen.

+1. Please focus the effort in making the game better permanently.

- Open world GvG
- Housing
- Guild Halls
- Character progression
- Better lengendaries (more powerful, better skins, pink unicorns! come on!)
- Remove randomness from precursors
- Fix the Ranger (tired of seeing “no bow rangers” in the LFG messages)
- Ascended armor
- Anti-train content (Karka, FG train running all day long, so boring)
- Re-playable story / be able to change banners. Make the decision impact the game in some way that matters.
- New, interesting, rewarding, quests that award something useful but a different skin.
- Fix WvW. Now the biggest zerg wins because everything is so balanced to the point to be boring, obvious and predictable.
- Fix the Ranger (yes again!)
- Hire a new Leader designer or make him play a ranger with a bow for a month.

I can agree that I want to see Cantha and Elona, but there is no reason why we couldn’t see an expansion in tandem with the LS content. Of course, they might just roll that out as part of the LS.
