Please remove these dailies again. They make the overflow problem worse than it was before.
This is how it is on my server during daytime currently:
Tequatl queues? Over one hour even with taxi (probably we kill him multiple times a day)
Shatterer? Overflow before he even arrives
Jormags Claw? Map almost instantly full because of champion zerg

Hopefully the devs are reading between the lines of most of the posts in the thread.
Although they may be funny, tongue in cheek, sarcastic, there is a genuine feeling that alot of players are tired of RNG and poor/limited/empty drops. People seem to accept it and actually expect little to change.

Just waiting for the next big MMO…

When I pay real money, I do expect to have something I’m gonna use in return. Not some boosters that are gonna stay in my bank. Not crappy crafting ingredients. Not ticket pieces. To me, all this RNG for real money is an insult to the customers.

It’s WvW, not GvG. Not sure what you expect. You think people are just going to leave it alone when they’re trying to play the game as intended? Anet or not, you’re going to get grief for wasting everyone else’s time in wvw by sitting there and not contributing.

You think people come to WvW just to GvG?

It’s dedicated WvW guilds who spend 95% of their time “playing WvW” and are tired of being outnumbered and fighting for the rest of their server who does less and cares less than they do.

October 15th balance/skills updates preview.

Game Design Lead

Hey guys, here are some of the improvements you can expect to see for the October 15th release. Let us know what you think about them and we’ll take this into consideration. Some of these may not make it in for that release, but I wanted to give you guys a high level preview of what we’re working on and give you an opportunity to give us your feedback.

Trait tooltips
Traits will now have tooltips in the same way that skills do. This means that you’ll be able to see EXACTLY how long an effect lasts, what its cooldown is, etc. We want this system to be as transparent as possible for our players, so that they can make the best decisions when creating their profession builds.

Skill tooltips as they pertain to traits
As traits impact a skill, we’ve also made it so that as skills are impacted by a trait, the skill’s tooltips adjust accordingly. Again, we want players to be able to see these details in their builds, so that they can build their characters exactly the way they want! We’ll be using different colors to show this so that it’s easier for players to see!

Other Misc. fixes:
Tab Targeting Improvements

  • Now prioritizes Champs/Legendary, then players/clones, then everything else
  • Deselecting your target now resets tab selection history (aka, you’ll start tabbing through from the beginning if you deselect)
  • Can now tab target if your character can see the target (Was dependent on camera before)

Floater Improvements:
When you cause condition damage, all damage of a given type (burning, bleed, poison, etc.) will be grouped into a single # with an icon, making them much easier to read. This also allows players suffering from these conditions to more easily see them, and know when they should use condition removal. Note that this is an option, so that you can disable it if you want to (and return to the old system).

Better fast cast ground targeting:
We split this into 3 different options; so that players can more easily cater how ground targeting works for them.

  1. Double tap to cast
  2. Press the button to cast
  3. Release the button to cast
    SO GET YO CAST ON!

Pet HP split between PvE and PvP
We wanted to make pets and summons more viable in PvE/WvW while making sure they didn’t become too strong in PvP.

Launch will now be stun breakable
We felt it made it sense to let stun breakers also help you when you are launched, since this is consistent with how stun breakers respond to other control effects.

It’s not a matter of “if” we go back to dragons or not, it’s more a matter of “when”, and it will most likely happen when they feel they’ve built up the systems they wanted to, to go forward with a new dragon storyline.

It’s like you’ve never tried to put yourself in a developer’s shoes before. I’m pretty sure Zhaitan feedback was on the underwhelming side, and ANet is aware of that.

They’re not going to go back into the personal story/dragon lore making the same mistakes again. They need time to build systems up, and when they do go back to it, they want it to be good.

Living story is practice. Players may whine all they want, but down the road, things will just get more and more efficient as the tools they use get more and more refined. Both months of Southsun, were practice. Flame and Frost is practice. Bazaar of the four winds, and cutthroat politics are all practice. Clockwork Chaos is practice. SAB, while seperate from the game, is an exercise in game mechanics, which may inform future jumping puzzles. And most recently, the Tequatl revamp, is most definitely practice, and if ANet is to be believed, the would be the first exercise in better ‘major boss’ mechanics. They would practice with each of the existing world dragons (and maybe some new ones) and then they could go back and revamp the zhaitan fight, or have a completely new and polished, elder dragon fight.

And if you try and think of their alternatives, they really did go with the best route of action. You may say “Well, if this is all practice, then they should’ve practiced it before releasing, I’d rather have higher quality releases than this”. Sure, you’d be fine, but one hundred foaming players right behind your back will scream and shout “WHERE IS THE CONTENT ANET.” Or what if, let’s say they went with something more traditional – they announce an expansion, but that expansion will be exactly what an expansion would usually entail – more maps, higher cap, etc. There will be people screaming “SO UN-IMAGINATIVE BORING SAME OLD SAME OLD I COULD BE PLAYING insert other game here”.

OP, please get some empathy, and think in their shoes for once. They’re people. They have to answer to a playerbase who wants everything. They have to answer to NCSoft who only want a bottom line. They also have their own goals they want to see, ideas they want to see come to fruition. It’s not a matter of “if”. It’s a matter of “when”.

While you have yet to release a firm verdict on the possibility of expansion, you have stated numerous times that you do not intend to have one; that if living story works out, it will replace what would have otherwise been an expansion. This leaves the appearance that the matter is up in the air, however given your year end report ‘by the numbers’, it is clear that you do not care whether we enjoy the content, but simply that we log on to check it out. Doubtless, the number one reason people partake in living story, is not because they enjoy your hastily thrown together Swiss cheese; but that they want the achievements and rewards that come with come with completion. This being a meek point however, what you have not divulged to us, is if personal story will continue regardless of whether you chose to add an expansion or indefinitely pump out this living story crap. What I want to know is if our grand campaign against the dragons will continue, as I am certain, the majority of the player base is looking forward to it.

Quite an interesting discussion and comparison going on between GW2 and GW1 in terms of updates so far now that GW2 also has celebrated 1 year anniversary.

Rotscale. (Permanent)
The green weapons update. (Permanent)
An entire new continent with around 30 new explorable areas. (Permanent)
A new storyline with 13 story missions. (Permanent)
Over 200 new quests. (Permanent)
Two new professions, the Assassin and Ritualist. (Permanent)
At least 30 new skills per profession. (Permanent)
Several new PvP arenas. (Permanent)
Four new Guild Halls. (Permanent)
The introduction of alliance mechanics including a moving boundary of war and allegiance rank/faction. (Permanent)
Two competitive missions, Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry. (Permanent)
Three challenge missions. (Permanent)
Two elite missions, The Deep and Urgoz’s Warren. (Permanent)
Alliance battles. (Permanent)
New guild cape designs. (Permanent)
Plus more, including all associated quality of life and refinement changes. (Permanent)

In Guild Wars 2, we’ve had:

The Lost Shores. (Added a permanent zone)
Fractals of the Mists. (Permanent)
Flame and Frost.
The Secret of Southsun.
Last Stand at Southsun.
Super Adventure Box. (recurring festival event)
Dragon Bash. (recurring festival event)
Sky Pirates of Tyria.
Bazaar of the Four Winds.
Cutthroat Politics.
Queen’s Jubilee.
Clockwork Chaos. (added permanent? portal invasion events)
Plus more, including all associated quality of life improvements and refinement changes, and all released gemstore items.

I edited your post a bit to differentiate between the temporary content and the permanent content for both games.

I feel that GW2's philosophy is flawed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jwaz.1908

jwaz.1908

(TL:DR provided below)

Before I start my rant, I would like to ask a simple question; Does GW2 feel like more of a chore, than actually being fun?

The reason I ask is because I believe I have isolated the cause of this phenomenon, aka what makes GW2 feel like work. The answer is restricted, time-gated, and ‘daily’ content (no surprise here really).

Let me elaborate; GW2 was built to be a casual, community-based MMO. While I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, many of the design choices in the rewards system ended up backfiring, or being fundamentally flawed, and based of shallow ideologies. Things like ‘daily’ achievements are base attempts to get players playing every single day. Having something like dailies isn’t entirely a bad thing though, but once these daily activities start to pile up, GW2 starts to become work.

The game started with daily achievements and mineral nodes, and over the past 11 months has slowly picked up more and more ‘daily’ content. First it was Fractals of the Mist, and getting your daily FOTM chest (per 10 levels), then it was meta-events and getting your daily rare. As if that wasn’t enough ‘daily’ content, now we have daily dungeons! It’s getting absurd how much work you have to do each day, especially for a game that’s suppose to be ‘play how you want’. While it’s true that nobody is forcing you to do all these things, the restricted nature of these rewards compel people to do them every single day.

Content Restricted to Once Per Day

  • Daily Achievement
  • T6 Resource Nodes
  • FOTM Chests (per 10 levels)
  • Meta-Event Bonus Chests
  • Charged Quartz Crystal Transmutation
  • Dungeon Reward Bonus Chest

While ‘daily’ content keeps players playing every single day, time-gated content keeps players playing over the long-term. Things like ascended gear (laurels and guild commendations), monthly achievements, and the recently introduced celestial gear are all shallow incentives to keep players playing over many months.

Time-Gated Content

  • Monthly Achievements
  • Pristine Fractal Relics
  • Laurels
  • Guild Commendations
  • Celestial Gear
  • Dungeon Tokens

These two systems of keeping people playing every single day, and over long period of time (while effective in the short term) quickly loose their effectiveness and cause GW2 to become more work than it is fun. Even the so called ‘living story’ updates are just additional shallow content that compels players to continue playing. Instead of making high-quality and/or difficult content the source of progression, Anet opted to take the easy-route and just make everything time restricted somehow. I urge you Anet to re-evaluate your rewards system, or else I fear the fire of GW2 will soon extinguish.

TL:DR To summarize, the piling up ‘daily’ and time-gated content is just a shallow attempt to keep people coming back, and to restrict those that play many hours a day, causing GW2 to feel like a chore.

I’m getting really tired of people asking for harder content. Nothings ever good enough. If you keep asking for something harder eventually they’re gonna give you something you can’t do.

I’m tired of the hypocrisy, and people complaining just to complain. By hypocrisy I mean the trolls who want it harder, and when it’s hard they complain, but when they finally do it they change they’re tune to “Oh yea I did it. It was no big deal, because I’m awesome.” This event is a pleasant surprise however, because people are humble enough to say “Yea I did it, but I don’t think it was fair.”

It’s the same with people saying there’s no end game content. What exactly do you expect end game content to be if Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have it? Honestly. There’s WvW, there’s legendary’s, there’s SPvP, there’s map completion, there’s exploration, Dungeon Stories, Dungeon Exploration, Jumping Puzzles, guild missions, living Story, I hear rumors of a new expansion which I have expected to happen, because, hey you know, played Guild Wars 1 and all. Living Story is meant to give us something to do while we wait for the big fish. How can people be so short sighted, and so easily forgetful? What can they do to get you to close your noise hole, and make that beautiful sound of silence?

This game is meant for stream line play; really smooth. Your in the wrong genera if you want mind blowing, testosterone over dosing, boot camp.

It’s also annoying with people also not understanding how something small can be wanted so badly, but can’t be gotten. It’s the same reason a guy will look at an outrageously beautiful girl who he thinks is out of his league. Why look if you can’t have it? Because it’s the human condition. It’s part of who we are.

I understand this goes too for the trolls who fuss as well, but all things in moderation. I also like to think people will ignore them, and they will get preoccupied with something shiny. Preferably in a busy street somewhere.

Dear dev and management,
This content, considering it’s limited time only, is very hard. Even for hardcore players the phase 2 depends largely on luck. The problem with the difficulty lies with the poor camera/player’s pov (I feel even more sorry for larger toons like Charr and Norns). Please redesign the camera zoom effect in the future. But for now I think this content have alienated those who aren’t lucky/aren’t rich/don’t have as much free time who are still
- mini collectors
- living story completionists
- low spec pc/bad connection laggy players
- Norns, Charrs,
- those with only 1 toon, I have almost 8.5k ap on ele but had to make a lvl 80 mesmer for this thing

Please at least make this achievement/mini obtainable during the activity rotation.

I know you are satisfying some playerbase with very hard/luck involved contents but think about how many you are neglecting in the process.

Update: I finally got it! All the stars alligned in the right moments— meat from Strugar/Chomper stayed after someone else’s fight and I got it for dps boost. All my phantasmal warden casted at the right moment both took away 80% of Liadri’s hp. And an orb spawned in the right time to rally me up! Luck and fast lvling a mesmer for this thing paid off.

(I still hope they fix the camera view, random enemies lingering after fights, got two Liadris one time but can’t target one of them)
